W–Two Worlds: Episode 15
by girlfriday
It’s the beginning of the end, for W the manhwa and the show, and I’m suddenly starting to get very nervous about how our characters are going to write themselves out of this labyrinth of a parallel universe filled with narrative booby-traps. Half of me is dying with curiosity to know how it all ends, and half of me is content to leave that door closed and enjoy denial land, where hope springs eternal and nobody loses an arm for not being a goddamned hero.
EPISODE 15 RECAP
After getting the all-powerful presto magic tablet stolen from him, Assemblyman Han licks his wounds back in the manhwa world. His secretary says that he was in the hospital one minute and not the next, and then reappeared passed out on the floor. The henchmen have lost Kang Chul as well, he reports, and they’re claiming that he just vanished before their eyes.
Chul, meanwhile, is brought out to the curb by the factory workers who discovered him in the real world. He asks for a cab to get to Yeon-joo, but while they step away, he’s suddenly transported back to the manhwa world. And of course that’s when Assemblyman Han pulls up to the curb, returning to his kidnapping lair.
Kang Chul doesn’t even notice him at first, because he’s in for an even bigger shock: A chyron suddenly appears overhead, reading, “Final Episode.” And then Assemblyman Han steps up to him with a chuckle to reclaim his hostage.
In the real world, Dad spends all night refreshing his own webtoon, and finally sees the new episode uploaded. He confirms that Yeon-joo is alive, and runs out of the workshop immediately. He hails a cab to get to the hotel, but before he can get in, the cab disappears.
Then he sees it too: “Final Episode.” Uh-oh, Dad’s been sucked back into the manhwa with them? But… in this world he’s the killer!
Yeon-joo sees the same chyron overhead outside the hotel and goes to the front desk to ask what day it is. She’s told it’s August 15, which she finds odd since it was September the last time she checked. Then it dawns on her that it’s 2017, and a full year has passed in the manhwa world. Yikes.
She’s at a loss for where to begin, but then she spots So-hee on her way out of the hotel, and decides to approach her. So-hee thinks Yeon-joo looks familiar, and then remembers her as the woman who went on the run with Kang Chul after he shot Ajusshi.
So-hee says that she quit her job a year ago, but offers to contact someone at Kang Chul’s company for Yeon-joo. She says that Chul was captured by the police last September, and in flashback we see Assemblyman Han finally give up after torturing Chul to a bloody pulp. He dropped Chul off outside the hospital, knowing that they would call the police.
So-hee says that Chul has been in prison for the past year for murder, evading capture, and faking his own death, and was given the death penalty in March. She tells Yeon-joo to go to court tomorrow if she wants to see Chul, because his appeal trial is about to begin.
Yeon-joo wonders why So-hee isn’t going herself, but So-hee seems to be living a whole new life now, and she says she’s on her way to the airport for a business trip, but she’ll be hoping that everything works out. Well at least someone found a happy ending in this world.
So Yeon-joo goes to the courthouse in the morning, and walks slowly down the aisle towards Chul, who’s sitting with his back to her. She’s so fixated on him that it seems she might just walk right up to him in the middle of the trial, but Do-yoon notices her first and calls out her name in surprise.
That brings the trial to a screeching halt and Chul turns around slowly to face her. She’s on the verge of tears, but he just studies her face and then breaks into a smile.
She smiles back at him despite her tears. The judge resumes reading the charges, and Chul just takes a quiet moment to smile to himself in relief.
Do-yoon is shocked that Yeon-joo is really alive, half-convinced he hallucinated her resurrection. She’s not even listening to him though, and just wipes at her tears without taking her eyes off of Chul, who ignores the judge and steals peeks at Yeon-joo, smiling at her in reassurance.
The happiness at their reunion is short-lived though, because the judge rejects the appeal. Yeon-joo is blocked from approaching Kang Chul by the bailiffs, but he asks for just a moment with her before being taken away, and asks why she came only now.
Yeon-joo says through tears that she came as soon as she woke up, but a year had passed. That’s not the answer Chul expected, and he scoffs in disbelief that he spent a year pining alone, wondering why she didn’t come when Do-yoon said he saw her wake up.
He admits to thinking all sorts of things, like did she have a change of heart and meet another man? He wondered if maybe she read the manhwa and freaked out because she didn’t want to deal with a murder trial and him being on death row, since that’s not exactly the life she expected when marrying a chaebol.
Yeon-joo can’t believe he’s making jokes at a time like this (though I don’t think he’s joking, heh), and Chul says to the bailiffs, “This is my wife whom I haven’t seen in a year. Just another moment.”
She asks why he didn’t leave, but Chul says he couldn’t. In flashback, we see him try to summon himself back to the real world at every turn—while being tortured, before being captured.
He explains that he’s tried countless times over the past year, but he can’t leave, and he thinks it’s because this is the last episode. As the bailiffs drag him away from her, he says over his shoulder, “Do you know? That this is the final episode of W?”
Do-yoon tells Yeon-joo to come with him, and to stay strong because the trial isn’t over yet. She lingers in the empty courtroom for a while.
Yeon-joo narrates that Kang Chul had this thought, back in that moment when he was sitting outside on the curb after being tortured, when he was feeling so weary: “Ah, I wish it would end. I want to stop being the hero of this manhwa.” And in that instant, the “Final Episode” chyron appeared and the end really began. Ohhhhhhh.
She continues narrating that this is now the final episode, so they’re trapped here until the ending, “whether happy or sad.”
Chul waits to be taken back to prison following the trial, when suddenly a drawing of a key appears in his handcuffs, and materializes into a real key. YESSS! Was that Dad, or Su-bong?
Chul glances furtively at the guards before un-cuffing himself, and as soon as he does, a gun gets drawn into his hand. Oh, it’s on.
In the past year, Assemblyman Han has become the frontrunner in the presidential race, and he’s now busy campaigning full-time. He gets an update following Chul’s trial expecting the verdict, but he’s shocked to hear that Chul escaped.
Do-yoon is driving Yeon-joo back to the penthouse when he hears the same news, and he wonders how in the hell Chul un-cuffed himself and got a gun. Yeon-joo asks to be let out before Do-yoon goes back to the courthouse, and she asks him to just tell Chul where she is.
Do-yoon stops to ask her one thing, and says that Chul told him once that there’s another world out there that’s exactly like theirs, and that Yeon-joo is from there. He asks if it’s true, and Yeon-joo hesitates a beat before confirming it.
Assemblyman Han can tell right away that Chul’s escape involves that magic tablet, especially after hearing from his secretary that Yeon-joo has reappeared alive and well. He wonders if Kang Chul has the tablet in his possession, and he clutches at his neck in paranoid fear, remembering the syringe he once stuck in Chul’s neck.
Yeon-joo waits and waits at the coffee shop, and Chul finally pulls up outside, rolling down his window with a smile, in what has now become their custom greeting. He’s all jokes as usual, pointing out that she’s finally adjusted to being the heroine of a thriller.
Yeon-joo asks why he’s suddenly a fugitive again, worried that breaking more laws will make a happy ending impossible. Chul takes it in stride though, and says their original plan for a happy ending failed the moment he was captured by the police. They have to write a new happy ending, he says, starting now.
He turns her face towards him, wanting to get a good look at her, and jokes that this isn’t the face he remembers. He sighs that maybe it’s been too long, because when he was imagining her every night in jail for the past year, she was absolutely beautiful. He revises his opinion now, calling her only a little beautiful.
Yeon-joo counters in a sad tone that Chul is really showing his age, and rubs it in that he aged a year and she didn’t. She insists that it’s true, so he comes back with: “Then call me oppa. I’m a year older than you now. Try it: O-ppa.” That’s just adorable.
Yeon-joo asks if Dad drew him the key and gun, and Chul confirms that it was Dad. He drew Chul the car and these clothes too, and Yeon-joo is surprised to learn that Dad’s been trapped inside the manhwa world for the past year as well.
When Kang Chul first escaped from the courthouse, he’d been driving away when a post-it appeared on the dashboard with an address on it. He went there to find an exact replica of Dad’s workshop here in the manhwa world (the house number doesn’t match, but that’s a continuity error—I triple-checked, thinking I was going mad).
The gate was open, and Chul searched the house with his gun at the ready. To his surprise, Dad’s tablet and computer were at his desk in the office, and Dad was there too—tied up in a chair and wearing a hospital gown. What?
Dad was trembling, and Chul ran over to him asking what happened and who tied him up like this. Dad: “Me. I tied myself up.” *shudder*
Dad said it’d been a year and he still didn’t know if Yeon-joo was alive. Chul reassured him that she was, and Dad began to cry. Chul asked why Dad didn’t contact him somehow, and how the tablet was here (yeah seriously, what’s that doing here?), and Dad said that he’d been locked up.
In a flashback (within a flashback), Dad grabbed a taxi as soon as he came to the manhwa world, and was headed to the hotel when he started to have more flashes of New-Face’s memories, and his hand began to flicker in and out again. The taxi driver noticed his resemblance to that mass-shooter who was already dead in this world, and all of a sudden, Dad snapped and began to strangle the driver. Gack. Is there no divide between Dad and New-Face in this world? This is bad…
His hand was a manhwa drawing at the time, like it had a mind of its own and was acting separate from Dad’s will. The taxi driver managed to get away and ran towards police officers nearby, and Dad was shocked to realize what he’d done. At the police station, Dad gave his real name when questioned and asked to speak to Kang Chul. But Chul was thought to be dead at the time, and Dad was terrified, thinking that both Chul and Yeon-joo were dead.
The sight of the officer’s gun was making him twitch like it somehow ignited New-Face’s killer instincts inside of him (I like how the color always drains out of the screen whenever he’s New-Face), and he made a grab for it, screaming that he’d shoot everyone like a lunatic. The officers overtook him, and right away Dad was locked up in a mental hospital for thinking he was New-Face.
He spent a year like that, going stark raving mad, alternating between Dad and New-Face like he had multiple personalities. He was at once tortured by the thought that he’d killed Yeon-joo, and then raging in anger at the thought that he hadn’t succeeded in finishing her off.
Back in the present, Chul tells Yeon-joo that all of New-Face’s thoughts and memories remain intact here, and in the manhwa world, Dad can’t suppress them. Well that’s terrifying.
Chul warns her that he’s in bad shape, and explains that Dad escaped from the mental hospital this morning to go find the tablet. In flashback, we see that in the real world, Dad had felt nervous about the tablet being a copy, and had drawn another duplicate and hidden it in the manhwa world.
It took Dad a whole year to get here, Chul says, but he finally got it together and found the tablet where he’d hidden it, and drew the key and gun for Chul to escape. Chul and Yeon-joo arrive at Dad’s workshop, which exists as an empty house in this world after Dad used it as the model for a hideout in an earlier episode.
Yeon-joo runs inside and rushes to Dad’s room in tears. She asks Chul why he’s tied up, and he says Dad asked him to, because he can’t control himself. Her sobs finally wake Dad up, and he breaks down, just saying over and over, “You’re alive? You’re alive?” It breaks her heart to see Dad tied up like this, and she just cries at his side for a while.
While Yeon-joo makes dinner that night, Chul and Dad have a chat, and whatever was said has them both in tears. They argue back and forth, with Chul refusing to do what Dad asked of him, and Dad insisting that he do it. Chul says that’s not something that can happen, and that he’s going to pretend like he never heard the request.
Yeon-joo interrupts with porridge for Dad, and then later she and Chul sit down to eat too. He tastes the stew and fakes a reaction like it’s delicious, pointing out that it’s the first time he’s tasted her cooking.
She can tell he doesn’t really mean it but says it feels good anyway when he praises her, because he’s so picky. She asks for more compliments while he’s at it, so he thinks (a little too long, heh) and just starts listing her physical traits, like her long hair, her taller-than-average height, and her ears being attached to her head. Pfft, you suck at this.
She can’t believe he thinks that qualifies as a compliment, and he teases that if she called him oppa just once, he’d give her all sorts of praise in return. She asks if aging a year is something to be proud of, and he says in banmal, “Yup. I’m extremely proud. Oppa is thirty-one, Yeon-joo-ya. And you’re only thirty.” Keh.
He smiles to finally see her laughing, but then she asks what he was talking about with Dad earlier, and he gets quiet and avoidy.
After dinner, Yeon-joo tucks Dad in and touches his face tenderly as he sleeps. Um… is it okay that he’s not tied up anymore? As Chul washes dishes, he sighs as his thoughts drift to his conversation with Dad:
Dad said that ultimately he and Kang Chul couldn’t be together in the end: “If you have a happy ending, I get a sad ending. If I’m happy, you’re sad.” He lifts his hand and shows Chul how perfectly fine it looks now, and he says there’s a reason for that: “I killed a person. This morning.” Whoa.
Dad flashes back to strangling the nurse in the mental hospital earlier today in order to escape. After the murder, his flickering hand had solidified. Dad explained that there was no going back for him, because now that he’s here, he disappears when he stops doing bad things.
He said that even if he were to go back, he can’t live when he’s killed so many people, as New-Face, and now even as himself. He couldn’t bear the thought of looking Yeon-joo in the eye, and going on with his life.
Dad said his life already ended a year ago, and he reached his hand out for Chul to hold. Dad begged him with tears in his eyes for Chul to help him die in the manhwa world before the happy ending. “Bury me in the manhwa,” he pleaded. Chul refused to do any such thing, and that was the argument Yeon-joo had walked in on.
In the present, Assemblyman Han heads down to his torture lair, where a man sits tied to a chair, covered in blood. Wait, what? He yanks the hostage’s head up, and it’s Do-yoon. Oh, I was totally freaking out, thinking there was another Kang Chul!
Do-yoon won’t talk, so Assemblyman Han sends Chul a message. Chul heads out to make the call from somewhere else, worried about his phone being traced. Do-yoon answers when he calls, but then Chul cringes to hear Assemblyman Han take over.
Chul asks what the hell he’s doing, taking hostages like a gangster when he’s supposedly running for president, and Assemblyman Han counters that Chul is a death-row inmate running around on the streets. He says he took a hostage knowing that Chul’s revenge was inevitable, and he wants to live.
Assemblyman Han says it was his mistake, assuming that Chul didn’t have the tablet anymore; he orders Chul to come back to the last place they met within the hour, so that he can finally get all his questions answered and trade the tablet for Do-yoon.
Things go from bad to worse when Chul spots a police officer canvassing the area with wanted posters of Dad, warning civilians to be on the lookout for the crazy murderer on the loose.
Back at the hideout, Yeon-joo decides to draw a few things into the tablet, and Dad stirs awake. She explains that she’s going back and drawing in a CCTV camera in Assemblyman Han’s torture lair, so that they can leak a video of him torturing Kang Chul and get him arrested. Smart. Can you be in charge always?
She figures that it’ll help speed things along towards a happy ending, and says that she wants to get out of here as soon as humanly possible: “This place is hell, Dad.” She busily redraws the scene, not noticing when Dad’s expression hardens and he suddenly sits up in bed. Shiiiiiiit. Ruuuun!
Chul returns to the hideout, and he notices that his hand has started disappearing on him again. He locks the gate, looking nervous, and then comes inside to the sound of Yeon-joo screaming.
In the room, Dad is strangling her and ranting like a psycho that he shot her already and doesn’t know why she’s not dead. Chul hurriedly pries Dad off of her and pins him to the ground. He checks on Yeon-joo, who’s huddled by the desk clutching her throat in terror.
Dad has returned to his own persona by the time they tie him back up in bed, and Yeon-joo cries to see him this broken. Dad whimpers and asks if he’s done something, but Yeon-joo lies and says that nothing happened.
He can see the red marks all over her neck though, and Dad cries to Chul, “I told you, I’m a monster. Do what I asked, please!”
Yeon-joo is alarmed to see Dad’s hand threaten to vanish, and then moments later, she sees Chul’s hand do the same. She asks why it’s happening again when he said his hand was fine while he was in prison, and Chul says it’s because he escaped and left his friend to die.
He tells her about Assemblyman Han kidnapping Do-yoon, and the forty minutes he has left to go trade the tablet for Do-yoon’s life. He hesitates to tell her the next part, and says that her father killed someone, and it’s only a matter of time before the cops find them here.
Yeon-joo suggests reporting Assemblyman Han with the CCTV footage and saving Do-yoon that way, but Chul stops her and says that if they achieve a happy ending now, her father will disappear. He says that right now, there’s no way for both Dad and Chul to remain by her side when this is all over, because one or the other will either die or disappear forever.
Do-yoon finally tells Assemblyman Han about the two worlds, which is the first theory he’s heard that aligns with what happened to him in the hospital. Do-yoon doesn’t know any more though, since he heard it secondhand.
The police discover Chul’s getaway car parked outside the house where they suspect Dad to be hiding, and wait for backup. At the same time, the windows and doors suddenly get erased on the house, turning it into a fortress from the inside.
Yeon-joo hurriedly finishes erasing all the windows on the tablet and Chul sits her down, saying they won’t have much time since the cops will find a way in eventually, and Do-yoon only has thirty minutes left to live. He holds her hand and says it’s time to decide what kind of ending they’ll get.
She asks how, and then with his flickering hand, he slides the wedding band off of her finger. Noooooooo, why are you doing that?
He takes his ring off too, and puts it down on the table next to hers. She looks up at him and asks in a shaky voice why he’s doing this. Chul says softly that it’s too cruel to have a father disappear unless he kills his own daughter—he can’t have that.
Chul says he’ll erase her from his family registry, and now she’s free, regardless of the ending. Then he tells her that it’s up to her to decide how it all ends, and he’ll follow her decision. They look across the table, gazing into each other’s eyes…
Back in the real world, Professor Crazy Dog gets into the elevator at work on an especially harried morning. His colleague tells him that the final episode of W just went online this morning, and he starts to say, “But the ending…”
Crazy Dog violently covers his mouth to keep him from blurting it out, and literally runs away going, “Lalalalalala, I can’t hear youuuuu!” LOL.
The colleague just shouts after him, “You’ll be surprised by the ending!” Crazy Dog runs to the safety of his office and mutters, “What kind of petty bastard spoils the final episode?!” Man after my own heart. Spoilers are the devil!
Crazy Dog turns on his computer and prepares himself for the end, complete with meditative prayer, his W hand-sign, and a full-body W for good measure. Heart fully braced, he grabs his coffee and clicks on the final episode…
COMMENTS
AGH, you ended it there?! So cruel! It is a nice button to end on though, with Crazy Dog as our avatar in the drama, going through the same whirlwind of emotions that we go through as viewers in anticipation of the finale. I really do feel like he’s me right now, half-afraid and half-excited, and willing to add a prayer or two if it helps the writer get this right. I really do think that the show’s earlier mind-blowing episodes set my expectations too high for the finale we’re actually going to get, but I have a week to prepare myself, and at this point I’ll just be happy if the ending is logical. AND HAPPY. Oh, and it had better include Su-bong too, because otherwise it doesn’t count! Strangely, the fact that the episode ends with everyone about to be killed, arrested, divorced, and without family reassures me, and makes me think that a happy ending reversal might actually be in the cards.
At this point, all of my faith in that happy ending is riding on Yeon-joo, because I’m convinced that Kang Chul and Dad will just compete to throw themselves off of ledges in order to give the other one a happy ending with her. She has to insist that she won’t settle for half-assed happy with only one of them by her side. I mean, I totally understand Kang Chul’s decision, even if it pains me—a hero wouldn’t be a hero if he just went, “Okay, you die and I’ll live happily ever after with your daughter.” Chul is right to think that this is no happy ending for Yeon-joo if they just choose to leave Dad to die a monster in the manhwa. I do think there’s room for Dad to redeem himself with a sacrifice though, because he has a lot to atone for, especially now that he can’t control his murderous impulses even as himself. I can’t believe how badly things went awry with that one decision to give the killer his face, but as far as conflict goes, it’s nice to have the scary villain back in the game. And I think it’s a great final dilemma to pit hero against villain, not in the ultimate showdown, but linked by fate and choice.
The fact that Kang Chul summoned the final episode into existence by simply thinking that he wanted to quit being the protagonist of this story was a nice reminder that his will was always the driving force of change. At the start, it was his will to live that overwrote the manhwa and changed the course of his story, and it was the variable that essentially broke down the barrier between worlds and allowed inter-world travel. If his will can start the end, then I have to believe that it can break the stupid rules that govern this world too. Dad is right that in a conventional narrative, hero and villain are inextricably tied in a seesaw relationship. It’s even poetic, and I can’t even feel that bad for Dad when he made allllll of the decisions to land himself in this position. But I also don’t think it’s satisfying enough for Kang Chul to just follow the rules and make the ultimate sacrifice, because it’s in his nature to defy fate and break through the very framework of his existence. He made himself into a real boy, for crying out loud—so finding a way to end this godforsaken manhwa happily has to be possible, right?
I really enjoyed the surprisingly restrained reunion in the courtroom today, because I wasn’t expecting Chul to be the jilted boyfriend, wondering why it took her so long to get to him and thinking that she’d left him. I feel bad for him and Dad spending a year in hell, but I kind of like that Chul had a chance to wait for Yeon-joo and pine away, like she had to do when he forgot her. It gives Kang Chul 2.0 a chance to catch up to her in their relationship too, even if it wasn’t in the competitive kiss-for-kiss way he envisioned. But now his feelings for her aren’t new, and he’s not fixated on figuring out what the other Kang Chul felt for her. He just missed her, all on his own, and that makes me really happy to know that. And I can’t help but think that he triggered the last episode of the manhwa because he’s weary of being the hero and wants to live a normal life with Yeon-joo, which is worlds apart from the first timeline, when he was weary of existing altogether and just jumped off a bridge. She’s his reason to keep living rather than give up like he did before, so I have to believe that his will to be with her is all the magic they’ll need. *deep breath* Ommmmmmm.

Crazy Dog's prayer just made me laugh buhahaha, lol...
He's seriously a die hard fan despite his rants of turning anti-fan! :p
This episode is more sombre compared to the previous episodes of adrenaline rush as it's prep for the finale. Hopefully the reminder of his will being able to trigger the final episode also means they can finally change the genre. No more genre pls, appreciate family and sweet romance instead and possibly choice no 4, lol!

oh one episode without Soo Bong felt incomplete tho it felt like it's over too fast. I really hope Soo Bong will become the master key to this two world. Since he's the only person that stays in the real world and knows the existence of both world and the first replica tablet.
I think the actor who played both Killer and Oh Seong Moo should get an award. For his psychopath like character(s) going back and forth being a killer and father. I swear he's better than last year multiple personality characters. He's such a natural. I hope he comes back as Appa!! PLEASEEE

After that heartfelt speech to YJ's dad about YJ, the ring scene was kinda jarring... like what??
Sigh... I just sincerely hope this Rollercoaster ride ends without me feeling cheated. I would sincerely just want a worthy ending after all this emotional and mental turmoil.

I actually understand why KC needs to do that. It's to keep YJ safe regardless what her decision will be. Remember New-face predetermined purpose was to kill KC's family, taking YJ off from his family registry makes her not a target anymore for new-face/dad. No more sudden choking or whatnot.

idk if it's a continuation error or what, but thing is, she's not actually his wife in the eyes of the law, since the reset happened to before they got married. a ring doesn't magically gets you a wife lol.. or maybe it does in this drama

Since almost everything depends on KC's perspective, I will bet the family thing also depends on his acknowledgement.
When he asked YJ to draw the ring back to his finger, the was his acknowledgement YJ is a family now. That was the reason New Face wanted to kill YJ because KC considered YJ as a family.
Therefore at the end of episode 13, we see KC consumed with guilty when he sees that ring on her lifeless finger.

maybe it's a Lost in Translation case, because the subs said "i'll remove you from my family register" and i was like ?? she's not even in your family register this time around lol

Indeed, it's the translation. Actually KC said literally "family member list".

I think that was a major error on writers part. She is not on the family register in this time line. Also the dad saw she was alive and then brought back into comic and didn't know? I was very confused about this . I am not sure I believe the dad was able to draw all of this at the same he was going crazy. How did the dad spend a year in comic when he and daughter came back at same time? I am still enjoying the show but I hope we can get some answers too.

Hey Zoe!
Where I watched it, the subs said "I will no longer consider you as family," rather than "You are no longer on my family register." So, ya maybe the removal of rings signifies the broken family ties between Chul and Yeon Joo, as seen in Chul's perspective, that being the perspective that drives the comic, as everyone has mentioned=)=)
With regards to the dad being drawn into the comic world (pun on drawn! sorry. I had to mention it), I was really confused too. So I watched the end of ep. 14 and the beginning of ep. 15 again. LOL, my life. And so what happened was that her dad drew it all, checked to see if it worked, ran to get a taxi. Then, he was pulled into the comic world. Whilst Yeon Joo woke up, went back to reality, called Soo Bong, read the comic, went out of the hotel and then was pulled into the comic world. So, she probably entered the comic world after her dad, and her dad probably entered the comic world after Chul. Since time in reality moves way slower than in the comic, her dad and Chul were there for a year longer.

Definitely appreciate your insight regarding the timing of when they got sucked back into the manhwa world. They didn't have a perfect explanation as to why one year passed by so rapidly, but I do believe time just slips when Kang Chul isn't actively doing anything (he was stuck in jail and had no means to be saved), similar to when he was lying in the hospital in the earlier episodes. For dad's case, he had the same face as the killer, almost killed a taxi driver, got caught, went mentally unstable and therefore was rendered helpless and put into the mental hospital.
Kangchul and Dad had a story to continue in the manhwa for that time frame and so they were forced to experience one year with no particular plot progression.
However, Yeonjoo didn't have any prior story to continue aside from being dead and revived before this episode of the manhwa. It is as if the real finale starts because it was triggered by Yeonjoo and somehow she didn't need to experience the vacant time gap.
I do find it extremely smart of Dad to back up his tablet in a secret hideout and it was just absolute great timing that he escaped from prison right when Kangchul was having his trial (thank the manhwa gods for this arrangement). All of these which happened when Yeonjoo was sucked into the manhwa.
But now that all three of them are in the manhwa, I'm really anxious as to how they will have to decide on their happy ending. Fingers crossed that the Manhwa will not decide it for them.

Wow. I came to this recap right after watching the episode and was struck with this insight 2nd time around to the story.
Kang Chul sighs and says "I no longer want to be the hero of this story" before getting sucked into the final episode.
What it seems happened is after kang chul's wish, the hero status thus transferred over onto his manwha world nemesis, dad/killer.
Thus, explaining why the world zips a year ahead to the day when dad/killer/now-hero finally kills someone, cementing his character/status: an important day for him. Meanwhile, kang chul is no longer the hero...so his efforts to transpor were useless, and he spent a year alone in prison despite his frequent thoughts of YJ.
I think the writer is setting up dad/killer to star in the sad manwha final ending, although I havent given up all hopes of an emotionally middleground resolution.

Reflecting on song jae jung previous dramas, it is just her style to treat marriage that way. Her character wouldn't nullified a marriage just because their memories are swiped. Once they take the vow then they are still married until the end. Legally or not. I personally love this perspective, she looks like she regards marriage as a very sacred things this way.
And I agree with Cipher, it is all a matter of chul perspective. As long as they still regard themselves as item in marriage, then so be it.

I love this perspective, too. It really makes this one stand out. It's not about a love triangle, or picking some random pretty boy out of a lineup. It comes right out and says, this marriage means something. It doesn't kill the tension, but adds stakes. Through all the crazy plot twists and jumps into different genres, there's a strong theme of family that comes through.

Agree. This is also completely in line with the themes of free will/choice that transcend the 'rules' of the world(s).
I'm so curious how this will turn out. YJ has a mere HALF HOUR to come to a decision/genius idea to save both her dad and her love. I doubt she will decide to save just one. I am rooting for her heart and creative juices to be stirred into satisfying solutions for her and her peeps.
If she cant...(not that she cant, but kang chul is usually depicted as the one coming up with ingenious ideas all thru the drama, and not so much from her) maybe fate can intervene .. but that seems outta story-line...

It's not about the law......it's about how kang chul feels and kang chul himself said that he considers her his family, which is the drving force for the killer. The killer never tried to kill Yoon Soo Hee or Seo Do Yoon or even Ajhussi because he never considered them his family. They were a part of his life as a guide, a teacher and friend but family is a bit different than that Yeon Joo is his family. I hope it makes sense.

I'm much more interested in a satisfying ending that makes sense of this drama. At some point I lost interest in the romance and I've just been watching to find out what the hell is going on. But we're at the last episode and I still don't know. I've almost lost hope that some elegant theory explains it all.
Did anyone else find the narrative structure jarring or boring this episode? A character would tell another what happened to him and then they'd show it. Ruins tension and suspense when they do that. I almost felt like forwarding through those scenes because I already knew what was going to happen as a character had just told me.

Too many questions, doubt will be answered in one last episode.

I agree. Up until episode 5-6 it was very fast-paced, intriguing, and unpredicatable. After that it slowed down quite a bit. The last few eps have always started off with dealing with the "twist" from previous ep, emotional fallout of twist, then introduce a "twist" at the end of the ep, rinse and repeat

Too late now, unfortunately, with only one episode left. I can't say the entire drama has been boring, just this episode for me because of the narrative structure of 'tell, then show', but unless YJ figures out the ground zero mystery of what the manwha world is (KC's conjectures have been totally contradictory), how it operates and what she can do to resolve everything in one fell swoop based on that knowledge, then I will consider this drama to have been a waste of my time. I'm a huge sci-fi and fantasy reader, and I primarily consider this story in that genre rather than crime or romance, and none of the hundreds of decent books I've read in the genre would leave us hanging with so much unanswered. There's still time to resolve, but it will be rushed if so, and the preview wasn't promising.

All I will say is that you are expecting way too much out of YJ, and KC's theories have been consistent so far.

September 9, 2016 at 6:58 PM
She's the original creator; logic says she needs to be the one to fix things. I'd honestly like to see her be the hero of her own story instead of leaving it to her semi-fictional one.
If KC had been consistent in what he said, then we would know whether W is a full world like our own, part of a full world like our own, merely a portal to a full world like our own, etc.

September 9, 2016 at 11:30 PM
Agree 100 %. My theory is because they filmed to many scenes out of sequence and no one knows what's what anymore. That's the consequence of filming out of order. I have read many articles with American actors stating filming out of order can be difficult to grasp what is going on.
xorisa
September 10, 2016 at 1:13 AM
Yeah, I watched this video on Youtube about why Kdramas suddenly fall out of line and become shit mid-way, and one of the main reasons is that they don't film the scenes chronologically. Another contributing factor is that the script-writer doesn't really have a clear-cut mindset on what he/she wants, so the script-writing is always left last minute. Argh makes me pissed because this drama was so good at the beginning; the concept was good, the storyline was unique, every episode (up until ep 5) was intense, intriguing and unpredictable. I really wish they upheld that standard because this drama was going to surpass my love for DOTS. Oh wells, we can only to blame the production team, not the actors.

Dear W Writer-nim,
First, love you, love the show... I'm just a little worried now (okay I'm ALWAYS worried about W.) It's only because you left a lot of things to cram into one last episode. We still need to save Do-yoon punish Assemblyman Han, figure out the Dad/Chul, hero/villain balance to the universe, give Su-bong a heart-safe future occupation, and show Yeon-joo and Chul having lots of cute genius pre-doctor chaebol babies. If anyone can do it, you can, but sometimes you skip things we need to see. (Those 5 kisses were practically promised us!) I'm just sayin' - - don't forget about the babies!

But things are looking difficult. I do not need mind-blowing twists anymore...I think I would be very satisfied if just the magic of their love makes things happen. In the end, despite of all the rules between the two worlds, the source of everything is the magic that turned Chul into a real person, so anything should be possible, it's just a matter of breaking a few more rules. And I really need this couple to get a happy ending after all the pain and suffering I have gone through with them.

Honestly, SM's biggest flaw is his laziness. Things would never have gotten so bad if he just took the trouble to be more detail oriented and flesh out his antagonist a little better, like, say, not put his own face on a murderous villain who has the power to cross over both worlds, and almost strangled him in the bathroom of a plane? I know hind sight is 20-20 and all that. But does SM deserve to die because of one shoddy mistake? I think not. But as for the series of bad choices he made before and after that? I'm not too sure....

As I said last episode, instead of trying to destroy the villain, who is part of dad, one way to halt the villainy would have been to give him a backstory and then reform him in a life-changing event. Is it too late now? Probably, now that he has merged with dad.

I don't understand why he still draw his own face as the killer when he knows exactly the killer had known the truth about both of the world. He thinks too lightly on what the killer could do. Although I understand he was trying to make the story more realistic so that Kang Cheol won't suspect the identity of the killer. But he could have just make the killer had some scam trick on his face, I mean he's a No-Face for a reason??? c'mon dad

I understand dad being scared of himself, but he can't ask that of Chul. I think dad's got to go down fighting--not sacrificing himself in a giving up sort of way (jumping off the roof), but going down fighting for his people in a way that takes him out. Going down as a hero. I don't know how he can rid himself of his inner demon (literally) any other way. Because he can't put that blood on Chul's hands.

Kang Chul wouldn't be happy if Dad died in the manwha he would feel like he cheated yeon joo out of a father etc.... And ASSemblyman Han turned out to be a teensy bit bigger of a threat than I thought at first O_O Now we've got to save Do Yoon figure out how to get a happy ending for everybody make sure ASSemblyman Han gets his ass kicked and we've got to get in our 5 kisses! So far, YJ's creativity and smart thinking has been the best for everyone involved. Her quick thinking and creativity out ranks her father's by far. That's why is important that KC gave her full reins to make the final decision. I like that he trusted in her abilities unlike her father (datz Bae). Imagine if SM had consulted someone about his trash decision for the comic instead of his bottle of dark liq. Smh...
So like KC, I'm gonna trust in her smart creativity to pull this off and hope for a satisfied ending that won't have me resembling a frustrated Crazy Dog. Or maybe that's what the writer wants us to feel? Ugh. I'm so nervous for next week.

YJ has been very good about manipulating certain scenes, by inserting small things, like her quick thinking to insert the CCTV in the torture scene. However YJ has never written any plot point of the story so far, because I don't think she can, and I am find with that, because if she has any plot control over the story that directly throws KC's feelings for her into doubt. In addition, let us not expect too much out of YJ, she has already been through a lot, and she remains and awesome heroine.
I really felt that KC asking her that, was him simply asking her permission to end her father (which I still think is cruel of KC to do, because how does he expect her to agree? This is something that I think he should've decided on his own because SM's situation is looking hopeless. SM has the killer's memories and impulses now, and the killer didn't just kill people in the W world but also in the real world). So this isn't about coming up with a new ending, this is about choosing who gets the happy ending KC or SM, and I feel bad for YJ.

Despite my love for the main couple, it would not feel a really good ending if Dad dies. For me, W is mainly about family and the W story plot roots in Dad's tormented personality. He feels he destroyed his family and this is the dark side that materializes in the killer. I want to believe that Yeon Yoo has the power to bring him back. The only problem is that she already died and Dad was going to drown himself in alcohol...only thanks to Chul he managed to save his daughter. I have no clue on how this could turn out...looking forward to last episode and find out how W ends; I'm so jealous of Crazy Dog right now, he's one click away from finding out what happens!! :D

I felt when he told her that it is up to her to decide the ending, that it was like he was asking her permission to end her father/SM (because like he and SM said, they can't both exist and have a happy ending - at least not in the W world). One has to have a sad ending, for the other to have a happy ending). Poor YJ she is suffering so much, but I like that KC is still determined, but won't go through with any ending unless YJ agrees.
I really think that KC will have something up his sleeve, and I loved your observations about KC's free-will and will-power, and how it was his will that has been the driving force of the story so far. I just thought that KC and YJ should've kissed and touched a lot more than they did, that is the only thing that felt a bit out of character for them. However I also realize that they didn't reunite under good circumstances.
Also for the first time in this episode, I felt jealous of YJ's W fanboy supervisor, he knows the ending before us! I have faith that this drama will have a happy ending, and hopefully the last 30 minutes of episode 16 will be filled with KC and YJ happy moments. Whether SM dies or not (I did pity him in this episode), I just want KC and YJ to be together.

Another one on the reunion! Maybe it's because I'm not Korean... All of the looking at each other scenes in the courtroom were great, you could infer a whole conversation there... But afterwards, when they really were together--well, if I was just seeing my spouse after they'd been dead and then come back to me after a year, I wouldn't just be standing around talking.

I thought I was the only one going nuts feeling jealous of Crazy Dog reading the ending.
Love the meta and how the writer turned this one on it's head because it's usually the audience who is privy to all the secrets and watch it being revealed to the characters. Now we're truly in the dark, waiting for the final episode, with no clue how this will end.

Crazy Dog aptly represents what we viewers feel! He is like all of us rolled into one. Add to it the adorable antics of Soo Bong and you get a complete package.
W started on such a high, and had such mind-boggling 8 or so episodes that it set our expectations way too high. It still is a brilliant show, but it lost some of its magic in the later episodes. But I am gonna miss it so much when it ends.
Here is to a week of wait for an amazeballs episode that would leave us awestruck at its brilliance, and asking for more.

It was a no brainer, to have kept him tied up.
I think it was a necessary oversight on yj/kc's part in order to make yj's "ultimate choice" more conflict ridden. If she had shown any sign of fear or reproach toward her dad/killer, then she would be more likely to choose kc with slightly more likelihood. But since she views her dad with as much affection and trust with almost a blind love, then, coming to her final decision is wrought with so much at stake for her.

I knew Dad and New-Face were connected (and that's how New-face knew when Dad was planning to kill him off because they shared memories) but woah! I wasn't expecting this. Dad actually becoming New-face takes it too a whole other level. But I am confident in the power of Yeon-joo and Chul. Like he said, he is going to get his happy ending, Fate be damned! Everyone better make it out of this alive; afterall, I'm worried about what will happen to Su-bong's heart if someone doesn't make it out. He's been through enough already, let's cut the poor puppy some slack.

While I feel feel a little bit underwhelmed with the penultimate episode, a part of me is still excited on how the story will wrap up. It's probably because all the theories we've come up with since day 1 was similar to what episode 15 came to be. We're really that good. Heh. *slow clap*
I'm not concerned with our OTP not achieving their happy ending since there's a very big chance of that happening. When we talked about the ultimate sacrifice, OSM was the likely candidate however, I think this show will aim to get all 3 of them the ending we all want. How they pull that off is what I am excited to see in the finale.
No more hypothesis to be made here. I think I exhausted my brain thinking of all the possibilities for several weeks of watching this show with heart. Part of what I want to see is how they will utilize Soo Bong; he's the only one in Yeon Joo's world that understands all the chaos happening in the manwha. Here's to hoping he gets to really take the creators seat with confidence and no acid reflux or heartburn.
That said, I really wish no one dies foolishly in the end. I want to be Professor Crazy Dog with a big smile on my face knowing that my favorite manwha ended on such a great and satisfying note having closure for all its characters. Han Cheol Ho is an exception, the jerk needs to be put down.

I hope you guys are right. I'm cautious because Su-bong already got a chance to shine last episode when he gave his all to grab the tablet. I hope that's a sign of more heroic Su-bong to come, and not the wrap up of his character arc. He's been a big part of the story since episode 1, so I probably won't have to worry about his character wrapping up so early. This drama just has ways to stress me out, though. One of the biggest PPLs in this drama, and people may not be aware of this, is the clothing brand NOYB aka 'none of your business'. KC has worn about 11 NOYB items in W. The one grey and pink shirt KC wore when fighting the killer in episode 3 is even sold out world wide, due to popularity of the drama I believe. So is the pink couple shirt KC and YJ wear in YJ's date imagination in episode 13.
However, in episode 8, the letter "B" on the chest of KC's yet another NOYB shirt was covered by tape, meaning this is not official sponsor. And in the mass shooting scene, the white dress shirt with "none of your business" on the back is not even on the shelf. I can only guess LJS is related to the brand.

I think letting us see what happened to So Hee is simply proof to YJ/KC and the viewers that what they did actually changed something. I was actually so touched by So Hee. She genuinely wishes well for Kang Chul but for all intents and purposes she's moved on with her life. That's something really poetic about her becoming the heroine of her own story rather than a side character that exists to pine for the hero.
Ultimately W for me is about people's ability to break out of their predefined roles. Can Su Bong the scared lackey find courage? Can Dad who normally collapses when things get tough find the will to prevail? And of course can Kang Chul go against his predestined fate and smash the rules that govern his own world to pieces.

I also agreed girlfriday on KC 2.0 recognized the love from YJ after a year in manhwa. The chemistry was suddenly emerged when he smiled in the court room.
W has so much to tell in an hour on every episode. The intensity and the story are too much for average viewers. I have to re-watch the show in the calm environment to catch what has been missed. It is always the excitement at the beginning and then a cold shower after.
One big question stuck in my head about the fading away hand on KC & dad. Why would it happen to them while YJ has no sign of losing the stand in the manhwa? Is she the only one that should be the manhwa main character and all others were her imagination. Is it the reason why KC asked her to make the final call for the comic?
There are lot of deep thoughts in W, and glad that so many fans share the ideas.
I don't know how I can work on next Wednesday while the subtitles will come out at noon time, I think I will take a half day off to run home and resist to read the story in facebook, like Crazy dog. lalalalalala.....

This has got to be the cruelest decision ever. She has to choose between her husband and her dad? I expect Chul will sacrifice himself in the final episode rather than put her through the torture.
Dad giving the killer his face was not only his worst mistake ever, but tragically, it will be his last mistake ever. He must feel like he has dissociative identity disorder, except his other personality is a manhwa character. Whom he created. It was gutting to hear him beg Chul to let him die like assisted suicide.
Today was utterly depressing. I don't know how we can get a happy ending next week. Really appreciate the recap, girlfriday!

I don't see what KC sacrificing himself would achieve though? Because if SM in his state gets the happy ending then that means that the W world will be under the control of the villain who will simply go on killing sprees. So no, the only solution is for KC to fight to the end, and yes poor poor YJ what a terrible position to be put in.

Exactly!! KC's sacrifice wouldn't change the situation, so the only thing that can be done is for OSM to go. But of course that wouldn't make YJ happy so that would not be a happy ending. Let's hope everything resolves smoothly at the end! xD

I don't know. I think this episode might be the first time I've been truly underwhelmed with this show. But I'm trying to withhold judgment and hope against hope that this episode's setup is leading to something amazing.
A few thoughts as I watched:
1. Really? Seriously? Sending So Hee to America is the best solution you could find for her? I hate that overused cop out trope.
2. Okay, the Dad or Chul dilemma is good stuff. BUT...I think Chul is sooo unfair to leave the decision to YJ alone. Or, maybe, it can't be helped but, whatever, it's damned unfair.
3. Where the heck is Su Bong? Crazy Dog gets a bit spot but not Su Bong? He'd better show up next episode. 'Sall I'm saying.
4. Turning the house into a walled in fortress? C'mon that's lazy, show!
5. Tablet 3.0?! We're wearing this one out now.
6. Could the OTP seem more distant? Separated for a year and not even a hug? For real?
7. Okay, let me look on the bright side. *Deep breath* This writer is capable of great things. The finale could be a mind-blowing, heart-tugging comeback. It could really happen. Yeah. It really could.
(Sorry if I rained on anyone's parade)

1. Well it is Dad who is writing the story for So Hee right. And we all know he is all kinds of creative. *sacarsm* So what do you expect? ?
2. I did think so too but then I thought about what someone commented last episode that it would be great if KC and YJ could work together and that the female lead wouldn't just be strung along doing what the male lead decided. Well- now she gets to decide her own fate! As much as the decision sucks.
I agree about Soo Bong, that we need more kisses between the OTP and I join you in hopes for an awesome ending!

True. The silver lining is that YJ gets to choose her own future. What a heavy burden though.
And can I say, the actor playing Dad owned this episode! His tortured portrayal is what gives such great weight to YJs decision.

I was thinking too about how dad could tie himself up in a way that he couldn't then undo, butbthen realised he didn't need to. With the tablet he can just draw himself as being secured, and reality would warp to reflect what the tablet depicts.

This isn't about YJ choosing her own future, but rather this is about YJ agreeing to her father dying, because at this point there is no other option. So yes, I would've preferred it if KC decided that on his own, and then maybe told YJ that her father had died in an accident. After everything she has been through, it is too cruel for her to know and have to agree that her father has to die in his situation.

I echo many of you in saying this is the first time I feel pity for Dad. Throughout the show I mainly felt frustrated at his behavior and choices. Now at the next to last episode, when he's killed people with his own hands, and there's no other logical ending to him but destruction, I all of a sudden secretly hope that the writer still has a trick up her sleeves to turn the situation around. Way to mess with my head and my heart and my moral compass, Show.
Seriously though, how can it be a happy ending if the daughter or the (ex :() son in law had to kill Dad?! That's more like traumatized ever after to me.

October 4, 2016 at 9:44 PM
Definitely disagree with you there.
Remember kang chul saying he also considered dad as his own family, since he is the father of his wife? Although, maybe that is now retracted along with YJ 'no longer being his wife/family.'
However, KC secretly accomplishing what you have proposed would ruin the couple, since his deeds would soon be revealed to YJ vis a vis the final webtoon episode..

"I agree about Soo Bong, that we need more kisses between the OTP and I join you in hopes for an awesome ending!"
Maybe that's just it. Maybe we've reached the kiss quota for the show. I did note to myself that LJS & HHJ were having tons of fun with the surprising amount of kisses/skinship... so maybe we've maxed out?
I sincerely hope not, but I'm altogether wary. Kang-Chul V 2.0 is less handsy and touchy-feely.

Ep 14 left me frustrated but ep 15 totally made up for it! I loved this ep, it managed to tie back all the previous plot lines and left me totally satisfied. The time jump surprised me but it was a great decision to give KC a year to think through things. But how hopeless he must have felt in prison, not knowing if YJ was alive and whether she abandoned him...poor baby. But now it feels like KC and YJ are on the same page again. It doesn't feel like he's loving her to repay her or forcing himself to accept the wife. It just feels like he loves her and misses her and he doesn't care about what happened before and what he couldn't remember.
As much as I hate OSM and all his terrible decisions, I really feel pity for him in this ep. And it was awesone seeing how he resolved his issues with KC and putting his trust in him to end everything. That arrogant bastard he created is the one he's relying on in his weakest moment.

Well, So Hee did mention that she will call up the company and tell them Yeon Joo is around since they are looking for her.
So I guess Chul or Do Yoon gave instructions to the company that in case Yeon Joo calls/is around, assist her.. somehow or another, she's President Kang's wife and that makes her the 'Madam' of the company..
I figured that's how she got her clothings and stuff. Even Do Yoon mention that Chul gave orders to vacant the penthouse in case she comes back. And guard her well.

This show barely has enough time to include all the important details the writer wants us to see, who cares about fleshing out So-hee who's less than a supporting character? She's not even one tenth as relevant as Su-bong, a true supporting character. By letting us know that So-hee, a manhwa character whose sole purpose used to be loving KC and who would vanish if the love line is taken away from her, is now living her own life completely independent from KC, she has already served her purpose as a minor character (the irony, I know, but we are talking about W as a fictional work after all) beautifully with the message that we all should have our own purposes in life, and not derive self-worth purely from another person's feelings for you.

Except the show did put her in focus back when she first quit her job and tried to leave but had an existential meltdown, disappearing and all. This was a major crisis then, resulting in the separation of the OTP, Chul's suicide and a reset. Now all of a sudden she can quit and leave, no problem? It begs the questions: what was all the earlier fuss about? What was the point?
It just feels like the drama's writing is fraying at the edges and it can't...it just can't...we're too close to the end.

KC did a lot to set her free: faking his own death. This is the variable created for SH's sake. Even though KC was arrested again later, there was a period where SH's setting was void because KC was dead to her.
Her brief encounter with KC in front of the hotel could be easily written off as an illusion, with DY's help.

I felt the drama dealt with So Hee sufficiently as well. As GF noted, she's the only one who is on track for a happy ending, due to her character having a renewed purpose. The fact that her life no longer revolves around KC is already a big shift.
I didn't think So Hee disappearing was the sole reason for a lot of those happenings - it was primarily the threat to Yeon Joo's life. Also, SH's arc was merely one example or manifestation of how the inter-world rules were affecting their worlds and them being together - it alluded to the possibility of ceasing to exist in the manhwa world and served to raise the stakes for all the characters, not really So Hee specifically.

half-afraid and half-excited
Why do I feel half-afraid and half-sad instead? I'm afraid that we won't have the ideal happy ending, that one would have to sacrifice him/herself. And even if we somehow get it, even if everyone would make it alive and finally live happy forever and ever, my heart breaks knowing all the hardship that our characters went through (yes, including Dad). And my heart breaks knowing that it will indeed be the final episode. I will so miss KC and YJ and SB.

Know what? After the series end I am going to print out all 16 chapters of GF's recap so I can read them like a book whenever I need my W fix in the future <3
I love, love, love this episode. So much meta, so much emotions (even if restrained), and so much wit. I don't think I have watched another show for which by the end of the second to last episode, I have absolutely ZERO idea how the HEROINE (also the hero, but mostly the heroine) is going to save all her loved ones. The obstacles our main trio are now facing just seem so enormous, so insurmountable I don't even know where they can begin to tackle.
And I thought it was so mind-blowingly awesome, that the writer underlines the importance of facing life's cruel realities head-on, by having our protagonists failing again, and again to end W/cheat fate by taking shortcuts (resetting time to the past) and avoiding conflicts (faking death). W insists to not go away until our protagonists give a really good fight, at least that's what I think it all comes down to.
I totally agree with GF on how Chul wasn't really joking when he told Yeon-joo that he pinned away a year thinking she'd probably had a change of heart and left with another man (among other possible reasons for ditching him, heh). He just said those things in a joking manner because he's not used to lose his cool and confess weaknesses except for when the situation is absolutely dire. And it's funny but also a pity Yeon-joo unknowingly missed an opportunity to learn just how important she is to him now. The Oppa talk and the sucky compliments were super adorable too, and he totally thinks she's drop-dead gorgeous instead of just "a little beautiful" (lol) but Kang Chul just isn't the type of guy who would confess to his girl such things until he gets treats like kisses, a nude show, or her calling him oppa first ;-P
Lastly my golden rule again withheld today- Mad Dog totally cracked me up with his madness (but OMG he_is_TOTALLY_me right now) and I even tried to copy his hand-sign (I failed, too complicated haha). I don't know what I will do come next Wednesday! Will I even be able to breathe right when the finale begins???

Very very true Sho you said them all. In spite of many are saying they are underwhelm with this episode, for me this episode is greattt and the writer never fails to surprise us.
Especially the Mad Dog at end. How come the writer can even capture our own feeling and made it into the drama. Awesome!!
I am happy to see that the writer break from her norm that the heroine role is there to support hero's big action. QIHM heroine is just that. But here in W, the heroine is the one that participates in making BIG decisions and actions that will put everything in the right place (pray that everything will end on a good note on the final episode). Otherwise, it always feels one sided ... the hero is smart, actively making smart moves and decision but the heroine .... meek, fun, cute and supportive. I am sure YJ is also as smart as KC. How else can she be a doctor?!
BUT sadly W has to end. Be strong my heart, all you need to do is to repeat again watching all episodes of W few times and this lost feeling will gradually ease.

Thank you, GF, for the recap and your insights!
I think this episode sets up for the finale quite well; although I'm still not sure how the writer is going to pull everything together logically and happily, I am just going to hope she does without pulling a deus ex machina. (No more tablets, no rings becoming portals . . . )
I think, if Kang Chul and Yeon-joo are to have their happy ending, it also has to be one where neither has unfair advantage over the other. Yeon-joo somehow has to lose her 'Creator' status, while Kang Chul shouldn't be able to teleport at will in and out of both worlds. Perhaps if both worlds merge, and there's neither 'creator' or 'created' . . . But the W world is ending, anyway . . . hmm. I'll wait till next week.
(But, please, it has to be narratively consistent!)

I know the starting 8 episodes were mind boggling, but later half were gud too. I especially loved ep 10, 11, 12 and 15..
In fact, even in ep 14 Kang Chul was daebak
Coming to this episode- The court room meeting of KC & YJ was so beautiful. Loved the worried KC and god his compliments were hilarious.
Coming to crazy dog, I can so relate to him. The protagonists are caught in mid of storm and let's see, how everything ends..
