I suddenly had an influx of my first kdrama fanfic (I mostly read kpop ones. hurrr). It's JaeshinXYonghwa fic from Sungkyukwan Scandal. Yes, a BL 'cause for me, it ain't a fanfic if it's not a BL. At first it was, 'what's this?'. 'Someone actually writes this?' and I ended up thanking that writer for opening a world I never thought I'll infiltrate. If you know what I mean. *wiggles eyebrows*

I can relate very much to the first story. My cousin and I were good friends but we never really went beyond a surface relationship. But once I showed her dramas and Kpop we suddenly had so much more to talk about. It became a door to new conversations and midnight confessions, as we became more comfortable with each other through our shared interests. These things really can bring people together if we're brave enough to share.

(Now if they don't like it is another story. Maybe one involving a chair, some rope, and a twenty story building)

Lemme tell you girl, you’re not the only past diehard Edward Cullen fan! I think I was a similar age when the books first came out, about 13-15 years old.. I still remember trying to spread the Twilight love, even telling my teachers to read the books.

Thinking back now my teachers especially my English teacher must've thought, so this is what teenagers these days read huh? All those tween moments, I can’t believe I cried in the second book when Edward leaves Bella, and she just sits in her old chair watching the seasons changing.

I am so thankful Robert Pattinson ended up playing as Edward, because it was his role as Edward which snapped me out of my tween love.

When I started watching K-dramas in 2005, never would I have thought that it brought me to discover a hidden talent I never thought I had it in me: writing a fanfic.

I know what dramas are to sisters. I remember just before my sister went off to college, we were at a very awkward stage we had a whole cold war going on. The reason was because I was going through puberty and the biggest snarkiest monster alive and my sister was dating a hoodlum and not kdrama mush inside ones, he was just trash(she also accepts that he was trash now) and we had big fights about it and I told my mom about him. Obviously my parents did a good job of grounding her and then started our era of cold war. She went off to college and we never talked for 6 months. Then she came home for holidays and she brought 2 movies that was the start of our slow friendship one was A walk to remember standard teen melodrama but we bawled together to it. And then came My little Bride, we laughed like crazy to it.
But it wasn't until next year that we actually got close enough to talk hours after midnight, I used to live in a very remote area(read slow internet connection) so she used to download a drama I wanted to watch born it in dvds and ship them to me. And then we would talk about it all the time and then slowly it became less about the dramas and more about ourselves. And here we are now when my sister has got married yet still likes to call me her soulmate. The drama which we bonded over was not korean so I never submitted my story happy to see that Kdramas has brought sisters close too.

Sharing the beautiful music made for kdramas has been a big part of enjoying it for me. It is such a warm gift to pass on to others.

I think the Korean language is one of the softest, smoothest, and most beautiful to hear in the world.

Wow the first story is sure touching.

My mom had surgery recently to remove some possibly cancerous cells so I drove down to her house (8 hours) and spent ~2 weeks with her helping to care for her farm.
In order to keep my mom SITTING ON THE COUCH LIKE A GOOD SURGERY PATIENT and not trying to flounder around the kitchen and dogs and chickens etc, I introduced her to kdramas for the first time.
One of my besties growing up was half korean and I have fond memories of her oma making kimchi and all kinds of things for us while we watched whatever korean drama was on together.
I had only recently started really obsessing with kdramas again (I HAD MISSED OUT ON OVER 10 YEARS WORTH OF GREAT TV) and I was excited to share some of these new great finds with my mom (especially because she was now a literally captive audience). I watched Secret Garden and You From Another Star with her. My mom was hooked.
It gave my mom and I something extra to bond with whilst also keeping her safe on the couch to recover. Thanks, kdramas.

And ZurnTheUrn, it's okay. I used to be a big Twilight fangirl too. But I don't think it's something to be embarrassed about. Yeah, Twilight was somewhat problematic, but most of us have realised that now. We like what we like, and as long as we're not blind to it's faults and are willing to engage with the problematic aspects, then just enjoy your entertainment for what it is.

I went down the fanfiction road back in the day, too (although I now have a self-imposed lifelong ban from fanfiction haha), and I once read a really good Harry Potter fic based on Hana Yori Dango. Well, I thought it was good at the time, anyway. But it was one of those abandoned fics that never got finished. Alas.

I was more of fan of Japanese dramas when i first started watching any kind of non-english shows. Since i used to watch a lot of Japanese anime, i always would watch Japanese stuff. But then from the site i watched, people were watching lot of korean dramas, and i did not know what the hype was about for k-dramas. Without watching any of k-dramas, i absolutely HATED Korean dramas, because it was so damn popular than Japanese ones. Blame my brain for thinking like that.

One day, my favourite Japanese drama ended, i did not know what to watch. That time, in 2009, most famous and top of the month would always be BOF which that time was airing , but had aired around 22 ep.
Then out of just curiosity, i just clicked on ep 1 and started watching. I had to admit, it was so good. The beginning was so good, i got so hooked that i finished watching 5 ep in just one night. But then in the 2nd half of the drama, it became draggy, and i could not watch it at all, so i stopped watching it.

But somehow i liked the language, and decided to watch another drama. My girl was the 2nd drama i watched which was from 2005. That show just made me love Korean dramas.i had a huge crush on Lee junki. OST of that drama was so damn good, i would listen to it everyday. And the rest is history.

Then one day, after watching lot of K-dramas, i decided to watch a Japanese drama, which i forgotten after knowing the awesome-ness of K-dramas. To be honest, i found J-dramas a bit bland compared to K-dramas. And then i realized that, i have been missing a lot of good stuff and i realized why people love K-drama more than any another asian dramas.

You're right about asian parents. They do have the habit of waking up in the middle of the night and checking on their kids.

KDramas really do bring people together! Growing up, my sister and I shared similar tastes in books, movies, tv shows etc. We went to the same concerts and same events. As we got older tastes changed. Four years ago she started watching KDramas and listening to KPOP. An introvert at heart, she was reticent to share her new found hobby. When she would say something we (family and friends would look at her weirdly.) We were not accepting at all.

Fast forward to May 2015 Memorial weekend. Time on my hands with nothing to do I turned on Netflix. International recommendations (We're Indian and used to watching international movies) pulled up multiple Kdramas. I thought why not, let's see what Big Sis loves so much about these. Goddess of Marriage was my first KDrama. Before the weekend was over, I sent Big Sis a message saying now I get it. Hooked for life!

May 2015-May 2016 was my year of Korean culture immersion. It continues... I don't see myself getting bored anytime soon. The stories are great! The eye candy to die for!! And though we have different tastes in KPOP we support each other's interests. Taking various sister's weekends to attend Big Bang and EXO concerts. Great bonding time!

We've become closer sharing our love of KDramas and their leads. Recommending music to each other and talking about the latest IC or Running Man episode is the best.

We even attended KCON 2015 and 2016. Meeting the ladies of Dramabeans was an awesome experience this year!! HeadsNo2, if you remember the two sisters you met ( one wearing an Oppa shirt and the other a Big Bang shirt) that's us :). I am the opposite of my older sister. I like sharing my interests with everyone. Spreading the love of K Entertainment to one and all! Big Sis is more comfortable sharing now too. :)

Evventhough, I got into kdramas around 2012, (I know really late compared to most), I was really a closet fan till summer 2013. I thought at first my parents would be really against me watching these shows. But, after I realized I did not wish to live as a closet fan anymore, it was no fun to secretly love something and not be able to share it with others.

Thankfully, my parents actually did not mind and I even forced(they all enjoyed it) all of my family to watch My love from the Stars as a family. Now, my older sister who is married enjoys talking to me about them, infact, that is all we really talk about and I occassionally bring good dramas up with my family members and suggest they watch them.
