Park So-dam considers role in mystery thriller Fifth Column
by chickachunga
Actress Park So-dam (Cinderella and the Four Knights) has received an offer to appear in mystery thriller film Fifth Column, which has already attached veteran actor Song Kang-ho (The Throne), Chungmuro mainstay Ryu Seung-ryong (The Sound of a Flower), and dramaland favorite Jung Woo (Himalayas).
Fifth Column is the story of a military investigator, played by Song Kang-ho, who delves into a mysterious case right before his discharge and stumbles upon a massive conspiracy that could potentially disrupt the very foundation of the military. Jung Woo will play Song’s sidekick, and Ryu Seung-ryong will be the antagonist who will thwart Song’s investigation.
If Park So-dam confirms, she will play the part of a staff sergeant and would be the only female actress in the movie. It wouldn’t be her first time holding her own amongst A-list actors — she worked with Kim Yoon-seok and Kang Dong-won in The Priests, Yoo Ah-in in Veteran, and made appearances in Song Kang-ho’s The Throne and Jung Woo’s C’est Si Bon.
Director Won Shin-yeon will be helming Fifth Column, and he is currently in the thick of production on A Murderer’s Guide to Memory, another thriller starring Kim Nam-gil (Shark). Won’s filmography includes The Fugitive, Robot Taekwon V, and Seven Days.
Once casting for Fifth Column is complete, cameras are expected to roll in the latter half of this year.

Park So Dam is really going places! She is like a breath of fresh air in the kmovie and kdrama industry. I really love her screen presence with her natural aura. I can't wait to see oppa-ya back on the big screen as well!

According to AsianWiki, she has already confirmed. Frankly, I do not see what the hoo ha about her is. She is decent actress for sure, but I do not think she is so outstanding as to be cast in this movie with such great actors. They really could have chosen a better actress.

Thank God she will be back to movie land after Cinderella.I hope she stays there for a while and only do drama once she receive a good offer. She is not the best, yet but she has potential. She could be among the top in the list of rising stars.

yeah, she is a good actress and she shines more in k-movies more then the drama's, mostly because in the drama's she isnt given strong material to work with. i agree i hope she does more movies and comes back to kdrama's when she gets better offers or just more meatier roles

Yes, Cinderella would not be nearly as enjoyable if she wasn't in it. I just love her, dramas or movies it doesn't matter to me.

She can hold her own and shine bright when its lighter fair but put her next to Jang Hyuk or the likes of him and her shortcomings are more visible. She has potential but needs more experience. I think she should do couple more movies and then come back to TV.

She's a young actress who only broke into the mainstream last year, so of course she's still learning and won't be as good as the likes of Jang Hyuk. Also, I rather liked her chemistry with Jang Hyuk in Beautiful Mind - they were adorable together.
I don't think anyone expects her to be outshining any veteran actor at this stage of her career, but at least she's learning with each role she takes (she's also done a play recently). I'm glad she's been offered the role.

Agree with you. She is still young and has a long way to go, plus acted with someone like Jang Hyuk who was phenomenal in Beautiful Mind, it is unfair to criticize her on that alone. She was also not given a strong material in BM but I've no complaint because JH really owns BM.
For a young actress like her, working with veterans is a huge bonus. Judgng her based on her drama only for me it is unfair.

Its like I should've watched C4K before BM so that I wouldn't be slightly let down by her. I know she is young but in BM, she was the weakest of them all.

How many movie and drama credits is she at now? She aiming to blow her competition out of the water: teen/adult actresses, former child actresses, don't even get me started on idol-actresses.
Some still have a lot more credits than So Dam but she's popping up like nobody's business. Hwaiting eonnie!
Really hope the monster rookies act together one day: Ryu Joon Yeol, Jisoo, and Park Bo Gum. Has anyone had this much of a impact within 2-5 years in the industry? And how long ago if so?

Omo, that is a daebak idea!!! Wouldn't that be an amazing movie... a coming of age story starring Park So Dam, Park Bo Gum, Ji Soo and Ryo Joon Yeol ala Breakfast Club or Stand By Me with lots and lots of bromance, hi-jinks and heart... Chungmoro Gods please make this happen... Chaebal....

I love it when actresses gain a foothold in the K-movie industry, because it's so dominated by actors. Love her, Park Bo Young and Han Hyo Joo and hope they join the likes of Jeon Do Yeon, Jeon Ji Hyun etc as their career progresses.

Some actors/actresses are better off by staying in certain areas. I like Park So Dam more in movies. Her dramas haven't had any impact, maybe because she doesn't shine in them or have that aura? More over some drama actresses or actors couldn't pull off a movie, at least not on their own. Kim Hye Soo is one of the few actresses that have an amazing screen presence in both movies and dramas.

All the offers for Park So Dam. But I hope she won't stay away from dramas entirely! Soon she'll do a drama where she can shine on her own an not just to serve the hero(s).

Park So Dam needs to choose drama scripts and roles more carefully.
And then we celebrity problem. Oh this hero/heroine is in this movie/show. I'm certainly gonna watch it. blah blah blah. It's good being a fan but when people overhype so called actors, which people do so often, It reduces the value of script.
Overexposure also harms you in Media. No one wants to see same face in every kind of content. On the other hand popularity and more work helps you saturate the market and force others do your bidding and get favoruable outcome most of the time.
Then we have battles of who is no. 1 in the industry.
So, I think, Park So Dam agency is quite clever. They are striking when it counts. It is profitable for both. Tv Drama isn't just a part-time job. It is an attempt to strengthen you position among customer base aka Viewers. In most of asian countries TV Media is quite strong hence it itself creates new stars.
If i'm an hero/heroine then i would surely do some tv dramas to get people's attention. Creating a fanbase is important.

I have a not overly favorable opinion regarding Cinderella, probably because I'm older than an eight year old girl, who is probably the target audience. Still, Park So-dam seems very pretty. So why, oh why, that dress?!

Cinderella is not one of her best roles. It started out good, but she has since been relegated to the all too common simpering Candy. I wonder if she knew that before she took the part?

Good for her! She's a lovely, talented young actress who hopefully has a lot of good things in her future. I really appreciate that PSD exudes a naturalness in her appearance. She's obviously slender, but she's not a stick figure, she doesn't have double eyelids or the shaved jawline that seems to be near universal among Asian actors and actresses - I hope that she remains confident in herself, her looks, and her acting abilities throughout her career. Park So-dam fighting!
