Lee Sang-woo, Kim So-yeon
- Cute couple alert: Kim So-yeon and Lee Sang-woo have confirmed they are in the early stages of dating. The two contemporaries allegedly became close on the set of Happy Home. [Joongang]
- Chief Kim, the latest effort from writer Park Jae-bum (Good Doctor), was supposed to be the last Wednesday-Thursday KBS show of the year, but the drama about a department chief who fights for his employees has now been pushed to 2017. (The real question: Will Chief Kim be as good as Chief Oh?) Taking its place on the schedule is My Fair Lady, for which the screenplay about a father with an 8-year-old daughter battling dementia won a grand prize this past July. My Fair Lady will follow On the Way to the Airport in November. [Joongang]
- Confirmations are in, and real-life buddies Kim Young-kwang (D-Day) and Lee Soo-hyuk (Lucky Romance) will vie for Su Ae‘s attentions in The Man Living in Our House. In the upcoming KBS drama, Su Ae is a stewardess leading a double life, while Kim’s a younger man who suddenly appears in her life and claims he’s her stepdad. I haven’t seen the webtoon the show is based on, but there must be more to the story, as he’s described as a swoony, manly man who will take risks to protect the dumpling restaurant her mother left behind, as well as his “stepdaughter.” Lee is cast as a chaebol heir who is incredibly driven and has his sights set on acquiring an even bigger global conglomerate. He’s sworn off romance since getting dumped by his first love, but he’ll have a change of heart after getting mixed up with our leads. The sweet romance (er, once they work out the family registry issues) will air after Moonlight Drawn By Clouds in October. [Osen, SPOTV News]
- The lead foursome for Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju are all confirmed. The titular character will be played by Lee Sung-kyung (Doctors), and she’ll be reunited with Nam Joo-hyuk (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo), who will take on the role of a competitive swimmer (again). Nam’s swimmer once got disqualified for a false start at an important competition and now has a complex about starts. Kyung Su-jin (Bluebird’s House) will step into the shoes of a rhythmic dancer who breaks up with her boyfriend (Nam) when the pressure of competing gets to be too much, but she’ll come to regret pushing him away. She’s Bok-ju’s roommate, and she’ll be hurt when her ex and her roomie begin to show interest in each other. Lee Jae-yoon (Oh Hae-young Again) is Nam’s older cousin and an obesity clinic doctor who supports Bok-ju’s aspirations financially. Finally, Yoo Da-in (Doctors) has been added to the cast as Nam’s childhood crush. A gorgeous doctor, she was also in the same class as cousin Lee in med school. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays on MBC beginning in November. [DongA 1, 2]
- Awww yay for Age of Youth’s Shin Hyun-soo (the sunbae who dated the maknae) — he’s been cast in Star of the Universe, which will be written and directed by Splish Splash Love’s Kim Ji-hyun. Shin will play a paramedic in three of the nine episodes, a mature and attractive character whose name literally means savior. EXO’s Suho and Ji-woo have also been cast. [TV Report]
- Kim Ji-suk (Oh Hae-young Again) has snagged the lead opposite SISTAR’s Bora (Doctor Stranger) in a TV movie called Irish Uppercut. In it, Kim’s a lowly kitchen worker who dreams of becoming a chef. There’s a twist though, and instead of just being a story of personal growth, Kim will travel between this world and another. (Anyone else envisioning a Pasta and W–Two Worlds mashup?) Most of the filming has already taken place on Jeju Island, and scenes will wrap at the end of this month. The airdate and channel are still TBD. [My Daily]
- Rocky Chinese-South Korean relations may delay Saimdang, Light’s Diary, which was to premiere on SBS in October, but may not air until 2017. Filming on the historical drama starring Lee Young-ae and Song Seung-heon began in August 2015 and wrapped in June of this year, but tensions have gotten high and many South Korean entertainment companies have withdrawn from China in recent weeks. Saimdang is currently undergoing review by China’s State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television and its fate will be determined in the next few days. [Sports Chosun]

Lee Sung Kyung seems to be able to pull off different characters, seeing her perform in 3 dramas so I'm curious as to how she'll pull off a pro weightlifter role. I'll probably watch the first 2 episodes only 'cuz the premise of the show doesn't sound too exciting (I've been spoiled by W)...

Am tickled to bits that Kim Ji-suk will be playing a lead. Have been a fan since his CHUNO days.
But what's with the title? It sounds like a boxing movie, not a cooking show! TAMRA, THE ISLAND meets ANTIQUE?!

These production collaborations between SK and China are so risky. It's hugely profitable, but once the politics get tensed up, everything else gets dragged in the conflict and nothing is safe. Sad it affects Lee Youngae's long awaited comeback.

My Fair Lady, for which the screenplay about a father with an 8-year-old daughter battling dementia - So not into shows about disease and terminal illness
Kim Ji-suk (Oh Hae-young Again) has snagged the lead opposite SISTAR’s Bora (Doctor Stranger) in a TV movie called Irish Uppercut. - The actor is good and the story looks appealing to me.

Saimdang kept shooting for 10 months! That somewhat looks grand since I guess even preproduced shows shoot for 5-6 months max but doesn't necessarily mean that they kept shooting it regularly.

Loved Age of Youth and just finished watching One More Happy Ending, so I look forward to seeing Yoo Da-in and Shin Hyun-soo in their new projects!
I'm always up for a little bromance, especially when the real life friendship should make for interesting filming and interviews, so look forward to Kim Young-kwang (D-Day) and Lee Soo-hyuk (Lucky Romance)!

Lee Sang Kyung, I like her but its hard picturing her as a pro-wrestler. She has to put on a bit muscle and weight, she is stick thin right now. Don't get me wrong she is gorgeous but not the visuals for a wrestler and I am keeping in mind that not all wrestlers are heavily built. But the fact that it goes against Hallayu superpower and seemed to strangely unaffected by it in terms of casting and all has my interest. I'd like to see how this one fairs, I hope it turns out to be a good show.

GAINING weight for a role must be such a breath of fresh air for actresses lol, especially for one who is also a model. The only bad thing is when they finish for the role and will have to lose that weight quickly in order to get cast in anything else...
I hope she enjoys eating whatever she pleases for a while. :)

Are we really sure this show is about the weight lifting protagonist? Seems like everybody in the show is related to Nam Joo Hyuk's character:
Lee Sung Kyung( Nam's potential One-True-Love)
Kyun Su Jin( Nam's ex)
Lee Jae Yoo( Nam's older cousin)
Yoo Da-In( Nam's childhood crush)

That's what I was thinking. Everything comes back to Nam. I guess it's like he was the center of this universe but LSK introduction shifts it to her being the center.
Can that be right? I don't want this female centric show to change direction. And I really don't want to watch a show about Nam Joo Hyuk.

aww, and i was really looking forward to saimdang!
this may be an ignorant question, but why do rocky china-sk relations affect the korean broadcast? were they planning for the drama to air simultaneously in both countries? is that how they do it now? i always thought stuff got exported/pre-exported over after the show first finishes airing in korea, which gives them time to add dubs/subtitles.

September 10, 2016 at 3:15 PM
Yes, they are supposed to be simultaneous. Otherwise it wouldn't make much sense for the Chinese broadcasters to buy the drama at those prices because people will just watch it on the internet if it is released in Korea first.
They have a new rule in China where any Korean drama to be broadcasted must be vetted in its entirety beforehand, which leads to the current preproduced trend going on for these big expensive dramas that target the export markets. So dub/subs is no longer an issue, these are prepared way before.

I am glad Lee Soo Hyuk will not get a girl, I don't like her, lol, btw, Soo Hyuk dated older woman before, hope Su Ae has someone and Soo Hyuk stays single for now, at least officially.
I don't think Kim So yeon and her boyfriend on the last stage of dating and planning to get married, hence the announcement.
