Bae Doo-na considers drama comeback in OCN thriller The Voice

If there’s one recent trend in dramaland that makes me happy, it’s the one bringing all of Chungmuro’s leading ladies back to the small screen. Bae Doo-na (Tunnel, Jupiter Ascending) is the next film actress considering a drama comeback — she’s been offered the leading role in the new OCN series The Voice and is considering it, though her reps say it’s one of many possible projects she’s eyeing. Bae Doo-na has spent recent years splitting her time between Hollywood films, Korean films, and the Netflix series Sense8, and her last domestic TV show was 2010’s Gloria.

It’s good news on many fronts if she signs on, because OCN has stated that they’ll be diverging from their usual male-centric shows with The Voice, which will be told from the heroine’s point of view. Bae Doo-na certainly has the film and television experience to carry a drama on her shoulders, and more importantly she’ll be believable as a badass cop, which makes me look forward to the show.

The new crime thriller is about the police officers who work at the 112 emergency call center, the first-responders who know just how important the golden time immediately following a crime is. When a serial killer starts murdering the lead characters’ family members, it sends them off on a harrowing investigation, where they’ll discover just how important their jobs are.

Bae Doo-na is being courted to play the call center team leader, a top graduate from the police university with an unaffected and tough personality. She’s a character who gets underestimated because of her cute appearance, but can beat most men with her hapkido and taekwondo skills. She has a stronger stomach than most men too, and also happens to have perfect psychoacoustics (which I’m sure will come in handy at the call center, whadduya know). It sounds like a good actor-character match, so fingers crossed.

Bae Doo-na is currently shooting Season 2 of Sense8. The Voice is planning to start shooting in October, and is being considered for either a late 2016 or early 2017 broadcast on OCN.

actor and actress acting skills are shined more in movies rather than dramas in korea. Movies mostly have complicated characters, better script (Korean cinema is still considered good until this day), and better directors of course.

Yes. But some actor / actress can't act in dramas although they get awards in movies.
Movies too short and direct by talent director, so we can't know how good / bad actors acting skill.

It is certainly case that a director can make actors look much better or really destroy them.

i dont think so. in my opinion, most of movie actors act better than drama actors and movie is short but it's more brain consuming for actor especially the one who play in award-winning kind of movie.
it might be in drama the script is not as good and the director cant direct well and in the end it end up they act quiet bad.

People know more about korean cinema than Korean tv media. You will easily find people who have watched korean movies than tv dramas.

And Koreans movies are usually better than their tv dramas.

Bae Doo Na looks cool so The Voice can benefit a lot if she accepts the project.

Yaaaass. I fell in love with her through her ass-kicker Sun character in Sense8, and it would be a treat to see another derivative of that in dramaland. Say yes please! *goes off to re-watch all Sun’s badassery*

I want to see her play a badass character. I don't care if she's being typecast. That's what I want.

But the only thriller drama I want to watch right now is season 2 of "Signal". WHERE ARE YOU MY PRECIOUS? Seriously the wait is killing me.

Wait it out. Our beloved sunbae Jo JinWoong has to go on a honeymoon first, lol. His poor wife.

They pushed and pushed and pushed their honeymoon later so many times and then when he finally has time... Signal's PD came to bug him, HA.

I totally forgot about this show...sounds exactly like something I'd watch! Not so familiar with Chungmuro, but I'm glad that it's the cable channels who are luring these actors/actresses back to the small screen.

I love her so much so this would be a dream come true for me. I'd love to see her as a main lead on my screen in a drama once again!!!

I was even thinking of watching Gloria again, too lol. This news came just in time. So, I'm hoping!

The only thing I saw her in was Cloud Atlas and she was brilliant in her role. It wasn't very long as the novel itself has so many stories going on in parallel but it was wonderful to watch her. I'll watch.

I haven't seen any of her work. I know, I know. But I'm very much for this. I wasn't sure of this drama. Love the female centric but just who to cast? Bae Doo-na is it, yo!

"When a serial killer starts murdering the lead characters’ family members"

GAH, that sounds so creepy. Where exactly do they 'start' the murders? Parent? Sibling? Cousin? Twice removed aunt??!

(I'm resigned to being freaked out, but the only thing I ask this drama is to please, PLEASE not ruin another MJ song.)
