Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

New shows! I love it when a brand new crop of shows changes the way your week goes, because all of a sudden your Mondays could seem a little brighter, simply because of a cheeky crown prince and his crossdressing eunuch. I enjoy discovering a new show so much that I’m almost never sad about seeing a drama end, even if I loved it. I guess I’m always just too curious about what new love could be around the bend. –girlfriday

Currently recapping: W–Two Worlds

Doctors: I watched all twenty episodes, but I liked the heroine more in Episode 1 than I did in Episode 20. Maybe sometimes people don’t need to change, okay? The cost of hindsight was pretty steep on that life lesson, but I did the time, so I’m sharing that nugget with all of you. You’re welcome.

Bring It On, Ghost: What, Seo Hyun-jin’s cameo was totally WASTED! Why would you bring her on for a guest appearance and give her no funny lines, no inside jokes, no… anything? BAH. YOU DID IT WRONG.

The Good Wife: I’m happy with where the heroine is at this point in her life, but that makes me nervous for finale week, which I’m scared will screw everything up and leave us with some kind of open-ended vague ending, promising a second season which we’ll never see in this lifetime, ruining everything forever and ever. Just do anything but that, okay?

Age of Youth: I’m always surprised by how much character development they can pack into this short series, but I already know I want more episodes. I feel like the real friendships just got started, and I love the bonding that’s happening among the roommates. Yes, there are mysteries to be solved in the final week. But don’t skimp on the bonding!

Cinderella and the Four Knights: This is such an easy, breezy watch that I’ll probably end up sticking with it. But I swear, if this director does that SWOOSH! SWOOP! SWOON! with the tinkly music to tell us that This Is Romantic one more time, I will throw something. Stop. It.

Jealousy Incarnate: I’m not totally sold on the love triangle yet, but I’m sure that’ll take some time to establish. I may even be more interested in the supporting characters, like the funny little makeshift family that lives above Chef’s restaurant. This show feels more like a sitcom than a miniseries because of the bizarre living arrangement and the intersecting families (like the High Kick franchise, for instance), so I think it could be a fun watch if I readjust my expectations for a sitcom-esque setup.

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds: This is exactly what I needed on Mondays and Tuesdays to balance out my tense Wednesdays and Thursdays—something bright and sweet and full of puppies and rainbows. It’s a cheeky parody with lots of meta humor, but it doesn’t forget to be a good drama with story and heart underneath the jokes, which makes me happy. And I had forgotten how much I missed Park Bo-gum on my screen. Never leave again!

LollyPip

Currently recapping: Uncontrollably Fond, Bring it On, Ghost

Police Unit 38: I somehow got hung up around Episode 5, and only recently got back to the show, and this time around it’s really grabbing me. The twists and turns are enough to give me a neck cramp, and I have a feeling the show isn’t nearly finished with me yet.

Cinderella and the Four Knights: This really feels like an older drama, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s bright and simple, with endearing characters and a heroine that’s sweet but never a pushover. It actually reminds me a lot of You’re Beautiful, my all-time favorite drama, so I’m enjoying the similar-but-new feeling.

Good Morning Call: This Netflix original J-dorama is your quintessential forced-cohabitation drama, about a couple of high school kids who end up living in the same apartment when they’re conned by the landlord. Of course, the girl is plain and unexceptional while the boy is the most popular kid in school. But all isn’t what it seems, and watching them learn to be friends and then more is good clean fun.

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds: Just the cutest thing ever. I love the cheekiness of both the Prince and Ra-on, and the relationships between the Prince, Yoon-sung and Byung-yeon are layered and interesting. I even find the court intrigue interesting, which is unusual for me. I have a good feeling about this one.

W–Two Worlds: What is happening I don’t even… ?

SailorJumun

Currently recapping: Age of Youth

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds: I can already tell this is going to be my cotton candy show of the week. But for cuties Park Bo-gum and Kim Yoo-jung, I’m willing to get a cavity or two.

W–Two Worlds: Kang Chul, don’t even think about accepting the fate New-Face has planned for you. You are not destined for a sad ending, you understand? This is your story — not his — so make your own ending, or I’ll buy one of those magic tablets and make it for you.

Five Kids: Now that it’s over, I want to lock this show up in a little box and cherish it forever. It didn’t exactly do everything I wanted it to do and there were a good number of episodes I found boring, but I loved the wacky characters so much that in the end, I’m thankful I got to spend as much time as I did with them.

Doctors: Oh, the finale’s up? Eh… *shuts laptop and walks away*

HappilyEverAfter

W–Two Worlds: I’m probably biased but the game is shifting way too much in the villain’s favor! I guess we need Chul at rock-bottom for him to realize that Yeon-joo’s by his side through thick and thin, but all of these variables are making my head hurt. All I want is Chul and Yeon-joo’s happy ending… and for poor Su-bong to recover from the trauma of being involved in all of this.

Cinderella and the Four Knights: I’m wondering what role Seo-woo will play in this whole family feud, because he’s been such a sweetheart so far, and I actually felt pretty bad for him when he got looped together with Ji-woon and Hyun-min during the suitcase fiasco, and Ha-won yelled at all three of them. Aside from that though, I do adore Ha-won’s spunk and I love that she can stand up for herself, at least when it comes to Hyun-min trying to make his moves on her. I don’t blame her for being flustered when Ji-woon gets close (I mean, come on, with a face like Jung Il-woo’s, that’s not even fair), but I can’t help wishing that she would give him a good kick in the shins (like she did to Hyun-min) when he tried to assert his dominance by coming up close to her.

Age of Youth: I feel like all I ever do is feel bad for Jin-myung… It was so heartbreaking to watch her go through that date. It’s like she can only get a twinge of happiness when she decides to give up and end everything. I’m also really curious what dark secret Eun-jae is hiding in regards to her biological father. Can’t she just let Jong-yeol in?

+100 I was anticipating Age of Youth for Park Yeon-sun and the lady-centric premise, but I never expected it to steal my heart. I'm actually feeling weepy at the thought of it ending and leaving behind all these characters, which almost never happens for me!

Added into my top 5 kdrama list. This show gives a strong message to all the money-minded writers out there "How to Write a script and how you must develop your characters."

This show is too good to be a kdrama.

The sad thing is there used to be more dramas like this, that smelled of people and not wads of cash. Now we're lucky if we get a show of this quality once a year.

This year is shaping up to be a really really good year. We have signal, 6FD (which of course started in the end of 2015, but ends in 2016), Age of Youth, and I think I'm going to really really like Moonlight the way it's shaping up right now. Yay 2016!!

Adding AoY and PU38 to my all-time, Top 5 list already makes 2016 an excellent year for K-dramas (and still have yet to watch "Signal" - could that make it 3 for this year alone?).

I sure hope so. See, if you have 12 hours to tell a story, make sure to adequately develop your character personalities and individual arcs. Don't just take 20 hours to introduce healthy sandwiches for busy professionals, smoky eye makeup that turns you into bad bitches, fresh-faced makeup for visiting dead grandma, smart fridge that teaches you to make a crappy lunch, and endless cameos waiting for the leads to poke their brains.

Age of Youth deserves a second season! or at least a spin-off series starring Ji-won and her "namja(saram) chingu" Sung-min, where she can be perverted and he can be grumpy and together they spend countless sleepless nights writing articles for the school magazine, with occasional flirting and bickering. I'd watch that.

1. cinderella and the four knights- surprisingly cute so far. definitely has some VERY dated elements, but it's got charm and it's easy to watch. just because i haven't seen a show like this in ages, it feels novel. sort of brings to mind the drama my love patzzi a bit. looooved that drama when it aired! of course if i watched it now i'd probably roll my eyes, but at the time i was enamoured with both kim rae-won and kim jae-won.

park so-dam and ahn jae-hyun are super cute together. actually, why does ahn feel more like the lead than jung il-woo? since when did ahn become so passable at acting, and since when did jung became so stiff?!

i do see cinderella becoming groan-worthy once they start heading into angst territory, but since we're not there yet...

2. moonlight drawn by clouds- it's always a challenge for me to get into a sageuk, so i may be in the minority. but i'm still struggling to really get into the first two episodes. it lacks that crack factor, that pull for me. it just didn't really reel me in, though it's 100 percent delight to see bogummie onscreen. no faults with his performance, just that i find sageuks difficult/somewhat dull generally. moon embracing the sun was a really odd exception in that i really got into it.

i won't give up on it yet though. way too early for that.

3. age of youth- i was impressed by ryu hwa-young from day one. does anyone else think she has a really great, expressive face? or maybe that expression she has just works for all her scenes. at any rate, i liked this show but han ye-ri always fell a little flat for me. i think it's mostly/partially due to her character, and maybe she just fits more serious/meaty stuff overall.

4. W- addictive, but i'm really going to need some answers next week. establish some rules!

My Love Patzzi !!!

That brings back memories!! :D That was one of my first kdramas - yay for Kim Rae Won! He and Jang Nara have barely aged at all!

To balance out the nostalgia, I've been watching "One More Happy Ending" with Jang Nara and Yoo Inna and Jung Kyung Ho - it's even got Evil Prof Hye Sung from Bring it on Ghost (transformed into a handsome neurosurgeon doctor, minus the creepy growling sound effects)!

I think 12-episode series are now the ones to watch - first Producer and Sassy Go Go last year, and now Age of Youth, which I've started after the ringing chorus of beanie endorsements.

There's something about that length that seems to allow for a decent amount of character development, if the writer thinks things out, while simultaneously cutting flab off the story. It works for jdramas, no reason why it shouldn't work here.

Also, re: W - I kind of enjoy the amount of shrieking and flailing I've done this week. I may not get the 'rules' sometimes but at least I do get how Kang Chul got hold of that manhwa volume since Yeon-joo fell asleep with it on her face and during her previous manhworld visits, things that were on her/in her hands at the time of being sucked in, were also sucked into manhworld with her.

Required fields are marked *

True, I've been liking the 16-ep formats they've been doing for Kdramas.

If done right, they're the perfect length to wrap things up just enough to go out on a high and leave you wanting more (examples being PU38, Signal, Oh My Ghost, Angry Mom, and AoY, although AoY hasn't finished yet)

I'm still scarred by the thought of what Surplus Princess could have been (only 10 eps, tvN?!) ...

The 10-ep series work well for Jdramas, since they tend to spend less time on the romance hijinks (unless they're pure romcoms) and angsty misunderstandings requisite in so many Kdramas. It's also a good length for rewatching!

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

i agree, 16 length is good if the story is executed well and if there is anough story. i really love jdrama's 10-11 ep dramas, even the pure romances are great, its still engaging and to the point but everything is developed properly, e.g hana yori dango or the one im watching atm rich man poor women, im always surprised how much they are able to pack in just one ep, sometimes i feel like im at half way point in a jdrama when im only on ep 2 lol.

Age of Youth is really the stand out drama for me here, which is shocking to me because W is easily becoming one of my all time favorites as well. W is exciting and unpredictable and just plain cool, but Age of Youth is really moving me in so many personal ways. I have so many feelings about this show and I feel like withdrawal from the show will feel like breaking up with 5 amazing people at once :(

W is really hitting the spot for me in a completely different way than Age of Youth as well. W is exciting and creative and fills my appetite for a drama where the stakes feel as high as they are made out to be. Truly excellent and creative writing. And KANG CHUL! *swoons*

Cinderella and the 4 Nights is one of those shows that I'll probably end up watching it all and then wondering why I never quit somewhere in the middle. It just seems like I've already seen this show a thousand times and it was never more than mediocre. As of right now it's entertaining me enough, but of the plot ever takes a nose dive into an endless puddle of angst I probably will jump ship.

Moonlight Drawn by Clouds is okay so far, but I'm not fully invested yet. I'll give it another week or two before I decide if I really want to watch it.

Doctors - Still gotta catch up from ep. 14 onwards.

Uncontrollably Fond - Just got caught up on this past week's ep's. Though I teared up when I saw NE hugging JY's mom, I'm looking forward to the conclusion of this series cuz there isn't much driving the plot.

Bring It On, Ghost - HS freaks me out and I'm so scared for the monk's life. I hope BP and HJ can defeat HS together soon!!

W--Two Worlds - Continue to enjoy this show every week and my brain gets exercise every episode. NF is the epitome of villains I've seen and I don't know what will happen the next time YJ wants to use the tablet to draw something. The sweet things homework that KC is doing are the highlight this week, and I hope through read the comic, he was able to appreciate the hell that YJ has been through on his behalf.

Cinderella and the Four Knights - Still enjoying this show cuz it's something that doesn't require much of my brainpower. LOL I still like HM a lot more than JW right now. Let's hope JW stop being such a jerk to HW soon when he discovers that she's probably got the same kind of experience as him with their moms both dead and their dads also dead/not present at the moment. They have more commonality than he thinks. HM seems to realize how mean he was to HW when his mom came to visit, so it's good to see him reflecting on his actions, which doesn't usually happy with other girls he's dated. SW is pleasant and I like how the cousins are already changing due to HW's presence in their lives, whether or not they're aware yet. I'm really curious about all three boys and their fathers' backstory. And what's with JW and HW's mom passing away on the same day? Bodyguard Lee and housekeeper ahjumma continue to be awesome allies of HW. But how is Bodyguard Lee connected to Chairman Kang's new wife? Basically, I like the element of mystery along with everything that's going on.

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds - I heart Bogummy and Yoojungie so so much!! What a breath of fresh air and Bogummy is the prince of micro-expressions!! I like the cast and storyline so far and can't wait for more antics, romance, and bromance!!

Upcoming series...
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Ryeo - Monday, I'm so ready for you!!

FantastiC - Lawyer Jisoo, show me what you've got!!

Cinderella - Can HW stop being so self righteous? She hears their issues but does not 'understand' and just ploughs ahead. AJH is love #thingsithoughtiwillneversay

W - dropped just reading recaps. There is complicated and there is messy. The writer seems to have given up all consistency or logic

JI - i haven't gotten the hang of it but interested. Less of the 2 wives and more of the makeshift family pls

Moonlight - ok-ish. i'll swap it for SH, if SH is even half as good as i want it to be

About Cinderella, that kinda bugs me too. I think the problem's in the writing/directing, not PSD's acting, though.

It would help if they could just let the moment sit there for a heartbeat or two (without the tinkly swoosh music, thanks very much). Instead, whenever the boys start to open up to her, she goes straight in for the kill, and straight away gets onto her latest Mission for Grandpa.

Sure, the boys end up "accepting" her ideas, and it's all part of the way the set-up works, but it just doesn't ring true to me.

Still liking PSD and the other characters, but with so many hints being dropped by Secretary Lee and Housekeeper Ahjumma, I hope Ha Won gets smarter soon!

I think the editing is more of an issue...okay, the sound effects are otp but all in, this show is pretty fun to watch.

Cinderella and the four knights caters to a younger audience so they really have to up their game with the cheesiness hehehe..but since its being shown on a cable network, I'm hoping for a little bit more twists and turns..like getting the second lead to have the girl!

Required fields are marked *

Yep, you wanna bet JIW gets the girl? :)

All indications are pointing that way. I mean, she never gets the urge to kick JIW in the shins or pull out the martial arts moves on him, the way she does with JIW ...

As for the sound effects ... during that shower scene with HW and JIW, I think that tinkly music must've played at least 3 times! They need to get some more music! At least Scarlet Heart sounds more promising in that department!

W : I am the resident in the drama and it should say how much I loved it,
I feel like W-story is familiar for me in one way and it probably because I also watch lot of anime which have more weird things happen and lots of ability that you believe will be explained later, perhaps that's why I don't feel that all the rules are necessary to explain before the things happen because since the 1st episode we don't even get the guidelines, we have to guess what benefitted us and who guessed the best have the probability of winning,
Last 2 year, anime is peaked with all the "sucked into game world with changing rules" story trope, from SAO (which still not a good one for me), Log Horizon (the real MMORPG) and Overlord (the lovely one) also bunch of other series to this season like Re: Life

Cinderella and the Four Knight (just watch till ep 5) :
I tried to find the novel but none is in stock,
I need to know whether Ji Won played just like the novel or not,
Ji won for me is a party pooper because he thinks everything revolves around him like a puber teens, get some grip ji won-ah,
at least hyun min and seo woo showed that they have something to offer, the smart guy and the popular singer, Idk what's there for ji won except his emotional baggage which doesn't seem so traumatised as the others have,
I want to root for him but so far, he isn't that interestng yet still not helpful for ha won,

Moonlight : I changed my phone wallpaper with kwak dong yeon, this drama is so cute and funny, the crown prince is so charismatic and the leasing lady just so good, they seems so good at acting, from the small little talk and the wicked smile,
I am in for the ride,

The Good Wife US version: I stopped at Season 5, hah now I remember what news make me hesitate to watch this series, but I should finished the Korean one, it feels like it would heal my wounds,

Maybe you aren't much into Light Novels but 80% of LNs are about fantasy or RPG or mmorpg or Main male character getting into world of other dimensions.

These days most of LNs are getting anime adaptations so its natural that you will find this kind of generic content.

Kang Ji Won isn't half bad. It's just that Hyun Min as a character shines the brightest.

I like light novel but it's hard to find the one with good translation, or the official one (T.T),I read overlord and I freaking love it get an adaptatio,
but I prefer the light novel about romance or slice of life than MMORPG (probably because it's the main theme in there ^ ^)

it's a sudden feeling that the premise nd execution is somehow familiar in the context of drama/series like "I've seen this on motion lately", then I remember that I watch lots of real life and fantasy life crossover in anime too much for the last season, no wonder I feel the familiarity,

I just watch ep 6 of cinderella and I agree that hyun min really shines the best,
it just the story seems to want me root for ji won when I just don't find any reason to do it .. . .

I just watched ep 6 of Cinderella with the four knights. oh my oh my. such a headache. Who gave this writer a job?

Hyun Min is the only valuable asset of the show. Still it is my guilty pleasure. I just want to know what happens next in Eun Ha Won life.

Age of Youth - 1000's of applause and claps and standing ovation.

Let's Fight Ghost - Alive and walking and crying Hyun Ji far better.

W - Two Worlds is awesome and exciting like a sports match but as soon as episode ends you calm down and get engaged in other activities. It has very limited impact on you or your emotions.

UF - I'm a masochist for watching this crap. Though acting has gone lot better in these recent episodes. This shows teaches you how not to drag a bad written script.

Second to last love - So far it is doing alright.

The Unusual Family - low budget, bad actors, many makjang moments, full of idiocy yet quite interesting. if you like to see strange families then this show does the job.

Waiting for Gab Soon and FantastiC.

ep 6 of cinderella give me all sort of bubbly freezy feeling, a familiar and totally predictable plot movement that I'll watch it again for sure,

one thing I love for the drama is how Ha won can talk easily about her past, her life without mom and dad at an okay tone,

"it's my story but I am over the angst phase since it happens a long time ago and I should cherish it as a happy memory" attitude

and I think hyun min is really good in the drama, I hate that I have this feeling that jiwon x hawon will be the end game and I can't fully on board,

reminds me of you are beautiful long time ago when I decided that jang geun suk x park shin ye is the end game no matter how I think yonghwa is the best guy,
watch the drama with that mindset and still got the burn for feeling too much of yonghwa character,

I only watched a few episodes of You are Beautiful. The only people that kept me watching that long was the hilarious manager and make-up assistant, Jeremy and his never ending stash of fruits(seriously, were does he get those?) and the second lead who kept on giving me vibes of Kim Hyun Joong in BOF. Park Shin Hye's character, Go Mi Nyu, meh. As for Jang Geung Seuk, I couldn't get over the fact that he looked like In-Hee bot( from Personal Taste), it was so distracting! At some point, I was convinced that either she was cross-dressing as a man here, or he cross-dressed as a female in Personal Taste. So I couldn't take him serious and kept rolling my eyes at his diva fits. Like I kept on saying " I'm supposed to find this swoon-worthy?". Anyway, I may watch it some day since my kid sis loves it. Will bring a report of it.

I heard that Jong Suk was the star of plenty of amazing dramas, so I wanted to take a look at some of them through recaps, like Pinocchio. But dear god, what is even going on in Doctor Stranger? All I see was Surgery Olympics and some crappy political stuff (why oh why must politics be involved in every medical drama possible?), and it seems like people liked Heirs even more than this? Jesus, thank god I wasn't involved back then.

After that, I heard that Dr. Jin was even worse than Doctor Stranger, so I looked at the recaps. Skimming through the screencaps, I'm now confused. This is a saeguk? A medical saeguk? What in the world is going on in that drama?

I am wondering what is considered the worst kdrama then by this community if it isn't Dr. Jin. Surely that and Doctor Stranger aren't the worst, right? Actually no, if there are any worse dramas, I'd rather save myself.

the worst kdrama ?

I think it probably princess aurora, but I wasn't on board and that time,
I read the synopsis and it's really weird and make me feel bad for whoever that tune it from the start,

at least Dr. Stranger has LJS, PHJ and Kang Sora, ooh I think this is really a wasted opportunity,

Due to someone's suggestion on DB and my blasted curiosity, I watched Doctor Stranger by fast forwarding A LOT. In conclusion, with the fast forwarding and the suspension of belief it's a pretty decent drama. I extremely love Park Hoon, maybe even more than his Dal-po in Pinocchio because Hoon was both playful and traffic (LJS worked the depth and duality so well with what he was given). The only thing I couldn't stomach was his romance with the heroine who was logically easy to understand but emotionally hard to like imo (and the love-line was all LJS working it). LJS takes on roles that are generally likable and complex so that's not surprising (that's why it's so exciting that he will be playing a serial killer villain). I don't regret watching DS the way I did because it made me a believer in LJS's hard-carrying-main-lead-material talent. If you ever have some extra time to kill, perhaps try DS like I did.

Have to add that it's not like Dal-po wasn't a tragic character too with his family's past and hidden identity, but he had a stable, loving adopted family and a great gal who loved him as unconditionally as he did her (and she wasn't a spy). The premise around DS was seriously wack.

I so agree about the romance. Hoon/LJS kept it alive until the end but them together was meh for me. It would have been an epic romance given what they went through. LJS's talent is the good thing about this drama. He did say that Hoon was the most challening/hardest character for him in his past interview.

I completely fell in love with Jong Suk after watching Doctor Stranger. Dr. Park Hoon is one of my favorite k-drama characters. Now after two years, I still miss him from time to time, wishing him live happily somewhere in a parallel world.

As much as I adore LJS, I still haven't completely watched DS. He was brilliant in it but the hospital politics was too much. The premise is so good. I loved ep 1-3/4 but then it went downhill. Such a waste. I did love Jongsuk and Sora. They need to be otp in another drama stat.

Oh no!! I'm ashamed to admit that I enjoyed A Man Called God. Granted,it was the first kdrama that I watched and was impressed that Koreans did this kind of shows( little did I know) plus Song Il Gook was major eye-candy, his clothes and fancy gadgets man, I developed a major crush on him (so did my lil sis...and my big sis too lol). But now, with experience in drama watching, I can see how unbelievably cheesy it could be. Nonetheless, fond memories!

"Dr. Jin" was a trainwreck, but at least it had Lee Beom-soo and was (unintentionally) funny (still couldn't finish it).

Avoid the "soapy" dramas like "Heirs" so can't comment on how bad it or others like it are (tho in general, just on its face, would say that soapy dramas are just bad from the start on the basis of being soapy dramas).

But for romcoms - the following are among the worst:

Lie to Me - as if the writer followed a paint by nos. type of instruction on how to write a bad K-drama.

Secret Garden - probably the WORST of the romcoms that had become a huge hit - nothing but typical K-drama tropes and uninteresting, stereotypical characters. No humor (unless one finds stalking activity and physical violence funny) and the "romance" was stale and unbelievable.

That K-drama which won't be mentioned (OK - it's "Big" - another prime evidence that the Hong sisters are vastly over-rated as K-drama writers, altho they do come up w/ memorable characters like Mi-ho and Dokko Jin every now and then).

Honorable Mention - "Rooftop Prince" (aside from 1st 3-4 eps where it had some humor; the plot-line and characters got dumber and dumber).

Thank you. Finally someone who agrees with me on the whole Secret Garden thing. I watched it on my initial kdrama watching stage and it was bad enough for me to consider written on dramas all together. I just couldn't get the hype. The protagonist's acts were creepy and bordered on obsessive and I just couldn't get behind that. Another one to add to the list is "My lovely Sam soon". I actually liked the female lead but this was another one of Hyun Bin's drama where the lead is just weird and abusive(?) Idk his earlier show choices were very meh (We don't talk about Jekyll, Hyde And Me. We never talk about that). Finally, Boys over flowers
That show was just too outlandish for my tastes idk.
One drama of the Hong Sister's that I wasn't a HUGE fan of was the oh so popular "Master's sun". Maybe it was just me, but I never found myself connecting to this drama. On the other hand I loved "Bring it on, Ghost" (It's coming to an end. Sigh ?) and "Oh my Ghost" so maybe it was just their writing that didn't work for me.

Doctors: Completed. Off my drama list and now I can make room for new ones.

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds/Love in the Moonlight: Whatever they call it. Mon/Tues. So glad for this drama. Much needed with the pain of watching Uncontrollably Fond. Kim Yoo Jung and Park Bo Gum have so much chemistry. Monday needs to come soon!!

Uncontrollably Fond: Wed/Thurs. The pain is almost over! The melo plot is ridiculous. If it wasn't for KWB and Suzy, I would have problem dropped this a long time ago.

Second to the last love: I've decided I can only watch this series once a week either on Saturday or Sunday. It's pretty slow. Only sticking to it because of Kim Seul Gi and Ji Jin Hee.

Let's Fight, Ghost: Friday/Saturday drama. Currently behind 8 episodes. Pleasantly surprise by Taecyeon and KSH's chemistry. Once this is finished, I will add Jealousy Incarnate to my schedule.

To be added to my weekly schedule Moon Lovers, Our Gab Soon, Cinderella & The 4 Knights. I swear the beginning of the year I felt like there was a drought of dramas to watch and I was watching random ones to fill in the time/ Now there's so many I can't keep up!

Let's Fight Ghost - now we're into the finale, don't screw things up, writer-nim! beat that devilish kwon yul out of it!
Moonlight Drawn by Clouds - Too cute not to stan! but the serious part of the story isn't so boring either. And yes, a week dose of bogummy is fulfilled now ♥︎

Uncontrollably Fond - they makjang-ed this makjang. Seriously that evil mom and fiancee should be just put into prison/mental hospital for the rest of their lives. Even though Kim Woobin will be dead, may he die in peace.
W - It turns *a little bit* messy, go here and there. I love the thrills and unexpected twists, but please, I hope the writer knows what they're doing.

Age of Youth - Go Dooyoung is creepy af. I voted him as the most handsome, but other than that, he's the rock bottom. Stay. Away. From. A. Guy. Like. That.
Cinderella and the Four Knights - Still dislike Jiwoon and Hyeji. But I'm feeling my ship is sinking. Just don't make Hyunmin our second Chilbong, please! (and don't you dare ship him with Hyeji, she needs help, not hyunmin) and please... the secretary lee... your past... #probablydead

Upcoming (or too much watching dramas now, probably marathon these after some eps):
Jealousy Incarnate - Gong Hyojin is the my life support to watch this. Yes there is Jo Jungsuk, but Gong Hyojin FTW. The drama itself is very... Gongvely-ish...
Our Gabsoon - probably curious after Song Jaerim and Kim Soeun are from We Got Married (that I didn't watch either btw)
Scarlet Heart - yes we got iu, yes we got flower boys. but I need my puppy ji soo. I turned down doctors because i don't match well, please make this somehow addictive to watch. (whether i still support MDBC for ratings)

As for Scarlet Heart, already read the novel and watch C-drama, really hoping the best for ji soo's character there~

W2W - on ep 11 *hate being behind*
TF38 – next ep 14
Jung Do in jail because of Sung-il? Yeah right I don't think it's that simple. Next ep is entitled "Two years Later"
Well, two years later dey be still conning.
C&4K - on ep 5. Wow, I love this drama! I think SLS may win this time. It's happened before. Hyun Min/Ha Won hwaiting!
JI - next ep 3. I want to be all intellectual and discuss plot, editing and such. But this show isn't about that. It feels like a cheesy romcom that I would have marathoned when I first started watching kdramas. It's amazing. This is my GHJ queen.

Doctors: As I expected, the finale had about as much suspension and intensity as the rest of the series. Meaning, none. The plot was weak overall, and I found the main couple to be rather dull. Don't get me wrong, I loved their characters (PSH did an awesome job as usual), but I just didn't feel any sort of emotion when I saw them. The side characters on the other hand, I was fangirling so hard every time they even showed their faces. Although I was disappointed how they wrapped up Seo woo and Young Gook's relationship, it just didn't feel natural (still adore them though). I also was upset about Yoon do. He had so much potential that they wasted! He was by far my favorite character, and deserved to be explored more in depth and have more screen time. Also, what the heck happened to Soo chul?! and In joo?! They just fell off the face of the planet with no explanation. Probably got sucked into a black hole or something. I have many more complaints about this show, but I'll stop there.

Uncontrollably Fond: Yawn. At least Jik is cute, although Haru should have gotten a good beating for all the crap she's done before she got rewarded. Hmph. At this point I'm only watching it for the actors, because the plot is blah. What on earth goes on in Joon young's head anyway? I'm so confused towards his actions, they make no sense to me.

Bring it On Ghost: This show is too cute. I love the chemistry of our leads, and the plot is getting more and more interesting and exciting. However, I don't feel as much of a connection to the characters as I did in the beginning, I'm not quite sure why. I miss grumpy puppy Bong-pal.

W-Two Worlds: My brain hurts. This show is crazy. Half of my brain is trying to figure out what the heck is going on while the other half drools over Lee Jong Suk because he is so very pretty.

Moonlight Drawn by Clouds: This drama is so freaking cute. It's also my first historical drama and my first Park Bo-gum drama! I'm loving it so far. I needed a show like this right about now. I'm looking forward to where it takes us!

Cinderella and the Four Knights: Easy watch, very cute and the characters are endearing. I'm not quite sure where they're headed with the love square though, all I know is that I want to punch some sense into Hye ji. She's so annoying. I'd also like to see Ha-won beat up Hyun min some more, because that never gets old. Lol!

The only show I'm watching right now is W, it's thrilling and keeps you guessing and you never know what's going to happen next and I LOVE that. And I love all the thesis size debates in the comments section! So many theories, and yet the writer still manages to pull the rug right out from underneath us every time. There are no rules in this show, and the comic world is unexplored territory, plus come on Kang Chul is just too *pretty* too miss out on.

Don't know what I'll do once the show finishes now that there's only 6 episodes left; maybe I'll see Our Gap Soon, Song Jae Rim is a terrific actor who hasn't gotten a a decent lead role that he's deserving of, maybe this one will be it?

Age of youth- this is my no1 drama nowadays. It makes me sad that this is the finale week. I feel like this should be 16-episode drama but maybe, 12 is enough for me to love this drama forever.

W- I find it RIDICULOUS. Like DOTS i can't find the reason why a lot of people is raving about. Like i said, i'll read the recaps until it made sense to me. But there's a lot of upcoming drama i don't want to waste my time with this.

Doctors- I expect too much from this but won't complain because every patient/case is watchable. It's like watching a US medical drama.

Cinderella and the 4 Knights - i find this easy and fun to watch. This is my drama when i ran out of anything to watch.

I finally got round to some drama marathoning over the weekend, thanks to my endless list of kdramas! So many dramas, so little time...arrghh!

First on the list was Mirror of the Witch - I'm currently on ep14, and I absolutely love it. Everything from the acting (which is wonderful!) right down to the nightmarish theme that it has going on. I've yet to be disappointed by a single episode, and I doubt I ever will in the final stretch *fingers crossed*. A solid production!

Next on my list of dramas to marathon, Nine, followed by Signal.

From the current batch of airing or just aired dramas:

Doctors - I'm surprised myself, but I actually gave up on this drama 17 episodes in. I just couldn't go on with it. I thoroughly enjoyed the starting, and was somewhat satisfied with the middle, but by the end, I was left banging my head against a wall, wishing for something to happen. Everything was just too mundane for my liking.

W-Two Worlds - I'm enjoying this one like crazy, but I'm also worried that it'll collapse under the weight of its own craziness. So far, I trust the writer has established a world in which all the craziness will eventually make sense. It ain't over till it's over, dammit!

Moonlight drawn by the Clouds - Struggled with the first two eps. In fact, I much preferred the first ep compared to the second. But here's the thing, I can't quite pinpoint why it's not working for me. I'm enjoying the leads, the humour is there (though still a little restrained for my liking) and it appears to have an emotional backstory but I'm just not fully invested yet. I'm hoping episode three will change my mind - besides, PBG is a delight to watch!

Cinderella and her 4 knights - It's gloriously cheesy!! But with quite a lot of heart attached, which I totally wasn't expecting. Definitely an easy watch, and as some people have pointed out above, quite similar in tone to dramas like You're Beautiful, and the older rom-coms in general. It's harmless fun, especially for those who love a good Cinderella tale.

Age of Youth - looking forward to starting this on a Sunday evening with a big mug of tea!

It's proof as to how much I'm having a hard time after Squad 38 ended that even though I wasn't planning on commenting in the first place, seeing Lollypip mention 38 made me soooo happy to see my 38 journey being extended for one more week on DB, I nearly cried. lol. I'm having lowkey and yet deep withdrawal syndromes.
T____T

Cinderella: a mix of old school harem dramas/doramas. I like it, and I've got to give it to AJH for making me waver about JIW. Jungshin is all sorts of adorbs too.

Ghost: Kim So Hyun is the cutest thing ever. And gorgeous. I approve of her style too. <3

UF: I'm watching it in fast-forward mode, which I admit to rarely doing. Almost everyone in this drama is fatally flawed. Reminds me of the early 2000s Winter Sonata days. A bit irritating, but I'm still staying because I'm now involved in their stories. lol. Jik and Haru are love.

Jealousy: This drama is absolutely nuts. I don't remember saying WTF so many times in one single episode before. And I love it.

W: This drama reminds me of QIH, but less romantic, and more horror. Which for some reason, I love. I can't wait at the end of each episode to know what happens next. So weird to see Dumb from Ghost's Dumb and Dumber play a doctor here.

Doctors: Everything about this is lowkey. I will forget most details about this, but I will always remember it for the same reason I remember It's Okay That's Love: the refreshing maturity of the characters. How I wish I could meet someone who understood all my thought processes, and embraced my flaws.

Moonlight: This is like Moon embraces the sun, if it was written and directed by pple from SSKscandal. Love it. Park Bo Gum continues to prove me at how good he is at subtle expressions.

Just rewatched Producers. Cindy is love. Gives me hope for Scarlet, even tho I don't have much expectations for it. Forgot how good Kim So Hyun is. I'm one of those people who thought the daesung was too much for him, but with the rewatch, maybe I've underrated him. It never feels like acting with him. Cha tae hyun and Gong hyo jin are charming as ever.

I wasn't going to watch Goblin but if 6Sungjae joins, I will have to. Hopefully he'll accept it even if Btob's jp promos at the same time. I actually wished he took Shopping with Louie instead, with Seo In Guk cuz I want the two of them to act together. Another drama I'm looking forward to. I miss Squad 38 so bad.

Wow! I was thinking which drama Cinderella reminded me of and now LollyPip gave me the answer! It indeed resembles YAB! At first, with the slow-mo thing and the 4 knights thing, I thought of BOF -because of the shoujo manga feels- but when it started, i was proved wrong. Im feeling SO sorry for Seo Woo every episode because that poor puppy spent ALL THIS TIME in the middle of two crazies trying to not let them kill each other... I can totally see him trying to talk some sense into them, failing everytime and just learning to avoid the fights as much as he could... More than JW, to me, the real mystery is SW. I really like the show so far but if I hear JW say "ggeojyeo!" one more time, I'll just...!!!

My list version

Let's Fight Ghost, like it but not crazy about it. The story goes well and make me want to keep watching.

Doctors, love it for the earlier eps but lost interest from the half to the end. But enjoy the parade off handsome supporting characters. Other than that, hmmmm the story feels really flat and boring.

Uncontrollably Fond, I'm torn off. Used to love it but now too depressed, it's heart wrenching really. The acting is great but i hate the story. I said want to drop it but sometimes still curious and hope there will be a sunlight for JY and NE.

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, 100% love it. Really love all the characters and the way the story goes. Usually a set up for sageuk will be darker, but this one is really bright and funny. I'm a sucker for RomCom so this one definitely my cup of tea. Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung are stellar. I love fusion sageuk. Now enjoying the torture of waiting for Monday to come.

Cinderella, like it so far since it's quite light. I kinda ship HW with HM. But since the lead male is Jung Il Wo, no choice just to accept. I love Jung Shin but really doesn't like Hye Ji's character. Don't know either it because of Na Eun or because i still carried away with her character in twenty again which is hatefull.

W, i like it since it a new idea. Very unpredictable, the story goes like a roller coaster. I don't watch it using my brain and logic, so go all out in my imagination world. It's good and keep me curious off what will happen next.

Second to Last Love - This drama feels like a huge 16ep-long advertisement for the city where they shoot the drama (Woori City). The city's beautiful and all, but with cast like Ji Jin-hee, Kim Hee-ae, Kwak Shi-yang, Kim Seul-gi and Stephanie Lee - really, that's the best you can do, show? This drama is at best at the level of daily/weekdays drama, there's even weekdays drama that's more fun than Second to Last Love. I stopped watching in the middle of episode 5 because I am so mad that all these amazing actors are given such a cliché script. Most importantly I was earnestly waiting for Kim Seul-gi to pick up a good project/role, I most certainly didn't wait for her this long to see her acting like a baby in her 30s! (It's her role in this drama)

Same feelings. I dropped it. Also I think J-dramas are really good at the depiction of ordinary lives and the relationships that form, in the K-drama they aren't able to absorbing and thoughtful. Pity since they had a great cast.

So agree about Seul-gi.

Cinderella and the Four Knights - probably the only show that makes you want to pull a W --- y'know teleport to their world, snatch the most useless, annoying character named hye-ji and then summon the almighty truck of doom and have it finish its mission.
....also, it's such a fun show to watch!

W - 5 more episodes till we wrap things up. Right now, it's anybody's ball game. Hopefully we get to see Yeon Joo back at that drawing board and erase the living lights out of no-face. #bringonnumber4

Jealousy Incarnate - why the heck is no one talking about the dancing Jo Jung Seok (damn I hope I got the spelling right)??
That image is both gif and meme worthy!

AOY - that ended quickly. I wanted more. My girls, one more shot! Cheers! *clink*

W: I've loved this show since day 1 and still love it. Came for Han Hyo-joo, stayed for the crazy addictive plot and twists and turns. It's so crazy, but I really hope the screenwriter has a good explanation for the villain's influence and power. It's unfair/ridiculous that he has so much power!! Props to the actor who plays Oh Seung-moo and the villain though; really great acting. But Soo-bong-ahhh; poor guy, he needs all the hugs.

UF: Meh. It's almost a pain for me to watch this show. I didn't think this would be a terminal illness drama, but I'm so close to the end and can't bring myself to stop now. I originally thought this drama was 16 episodes (like most other ones on air now) and when I found out it was 20, I was SO upset/frustrated. Welp, can't stop now.

Age of Youth: I started this drama because of the hype on DB. Absolutely love this show and I really wish there is a season 2 or more episodes. While the individual stories are interesting, the relationships among the girls are what makes the show. With the finale tonight, I really hope it does a good job in tying up the characters' arcs, especially for Ji-won and Eun-jae. I absolutely love Ji-won and was disappointed the drama didn't focus on her arc more. And I really hope the drama brings back the cute between Eun-jae and Jong-yeol; they are SO CUTE and I was so sad these past couple episodes didn't have these moments.

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds: Came for Kim Yoo-jung and the cute storyline. It's actually my first Park Bo-gum drama and he is SO. PRETTY. The first two episodes were really cute and I got a lot of Sungkyunkwan Scandal-vibes (and some Moon Embracing the Sun vibes too). I don't think I'm fully into this show, so waiting for 3 & 4 to see how I feel.

Debating on if I should start Cinderella--it just seems so cheesy, I can't.

(Im)patiently waiting for Moon Lovers. They've literally been teasing us with so many cuts and previews but omg, Monday please come faster.

Age of Youth: Hwayoung's character is definitely the highlight of this series.

W: Dropped after episode 6, couldn't stand the female lead's acting. Her expressions look ridiculous and she just can't emote, she's very pretty though.

Cinderella: Good drama to watch to pass time. I'm not a big fan of Hyun Min like most people and I find Ji Woon insufferable yet interesting as well.

Moonlight: Adorable. The main leads are doing a great job. Can't wait for the romance to begin

Uncontrollably Fond: Boring.. and depressing.

Doctors: Finished watching it just for the kiss scenes, it was an average drama, nothing memorable

I started Age of youth based on feedback here and the DB watching team. It is good. Ok great. I ended up watching the last 4 episodes raw. Couldn't wait to find out what happened to the girls.

What I've watched this week (MON to SAT)
Moonlight: Agree with everyone else-So cute. Laughed so much but I hoped reveal to come later.
Monster :ugh How long OTP has to be apart- why both pretend not to know, why.
Doctors: Done. I was watching half-heartedly, and then that baby made me teared up. Seo-woo was best in the end.
Bring It On: Glad for more reveal. I just love Taecyeon and KSH here.

Uncontrollably Fond: Like OT comment "UF is unbelievably frustrating" But I loved him and his mom's scene.
W–Two Worlds :Amazing.
Jealousy Incarnate : So that was meaningful touch lol.

Flower in Prison :I just love the king! Lee So-jung is so pretty!
Second to Last Love :lol dance
Age of Youth :Wow it got dark, but glad for happy? ending (even though they were not perfect/CLOSED happy ending).
The Good Wife :I don't know what to feel about the ending- HJ practical?sly? I've never felt emotionally attached to this show, still this show is so well-done in every way (especially loved all women characters).
Cinderella : This is so Disney. JIW did better.

I also watched some of new shows -Laurel Tree Tailors (Which started like REPLY series), Blow Breeze (Interesting because it dealt with North and South Korean) and Our Gap-soon (Meh but I have to watch a few more episodes). I liked Blow Breeze, but I am not surprised Laurel Tree Tailors had incredible ratings already.

Time to play catch up on dramas! Only managed to watch W and Moonlight this week.
All this talk about Age Of Youth ending is making me sad, hope the ending is good (I need to watch!), but not ready to let go of these girls yet. Indecision between watching to hang out and yet knowing it means I have to say Goodbye. Season 2 please?

It's happening again with W!

I dread it whenever a show which I loved so much and couldn't wait for subs to come out becomes a show which I am dragging my feet to watch the new episode.

I have a list of dramas which I dropped almost at the finale. It happened this year to MOTW and GON. W is a far better drama compared to these two but I lost excitement this week. Maybe I just got to get out of this rut and I'd be on the happy ride again!

Age of Youth! I am dreading to start the finale because I love it so much. This was such an unexpected gem which totally flew under the radar. Getting hankies ready T...T

The Good Wife - I am halfway through ep 15. I can't see how things can be wrapped up so quickly and nicely. Last week, I was so captivated by Kim Seo Hyung's beauty. There was this scene and I was just staring at her face.

Moonlight drawn by the Clouds - Bogummy was born to act! KYJ is stellar as always. And who is this Jin Young? He looks like he stepped out of a Chinese painting :) Such exquisite features!

Finally Doctors ended, fans can at least rejoice with the consistent ratings. Looking forward to Scarlet Heart, now I have dramas to watch on weekdays :D

Age of Youth: me too! I'm desperate to watch the finale and reluctant to watch it at the same time, since it means I'll have to say goodbye to my 5 roommates ... Anyone know if this writer has another drama in the pipeline??

I'm in trouble, with so many dramas to watch!! I dropped a bunch last year at the pre-finale mark, but haven't had the same problem this year ... maybe I'm just getting better at using the fast forward button, heh!

I am watching in chronological order.

Monday/Tues

Moonlight Drawn - by Clouds so cute! I really enjoyed the first two episodes, although I will reserve judgement until eh series has ended. I am always haunted by the memory of Gu Family Book as reminder that a really good beginning can sometimes be the top of a long downward spiral.
The Ghosts of Drama's past....
Still I have great hopes for this drama. It's just that sometimes when I really like a drama I get worried. :(
Doctors - Dropped in on the Finale. Meh. I was also a bit confused as i stopped watching several episodes ago. Seo Woo ended up being my character to cheer for!

Wednesday/Thur

W- While this drama isn't perfect I still find it fascinating. And every time I start to lose interest or question the plot something happens that tugs me back in emotionally. It's not the crack drama I was hoping it would be but still very good!

Jealousy Incarnate- I agree that it is the supporting characters and the apartment family that drew me in. The romance I am not sure yet but I do love Gong Hyo-Jin! I will continue for now.

Weekend

Age of Youth - I had dropped this after the first couple episodes because I just wasn't drawn in. I wasn't sure what type of genre I was watching. Well I tried it again and caught up in one afternoon! Those girls!

Cinderella - Yes it feels like an older drama and that is why I am loving it! Now that five children is gone I need a new dose of lighthearted cute!

Also, I am realllllly looking forward to Scarlet Heart

What I’m watching:

Dramas:

Age of Youth: This is the best drama I’ve ever had the honour of watching. Yes, when a drama is that good, watching it becomes an honour. A story about strong but human ladies? Sign me up. I’ve watched the last episode already and surely this is not a spoiler but I really liked the way they ended it without a Happily Ever After. Life doesn’t have that. It’s a series of living and working through all its ups and downs and only ends when one dies. So true to its form, Age of Youth went out the way it came and has been going: Slice of life, with hope for the future.

Second to last Love: I was really into this show when I was watching the very early episodes, mostly because of the rapid fire exchanges between Kang MinJoo and Go SangShik. And then it kind of died down when Kang MinJoo got together with Park JoonWoo if only because there’s now a line between them, haha. But still, it’s a really good drama that I’m going to continue with, if only to see Kang MinJoo bond with same aged man Go SangShik. It’s a little different compared to what drama land usually offers, with a story about adult love, and for that, I think I’d like to try watching it a little more.

W: As always, fantastic. I’m just here for the ride.

Our GabSoon: I was thrilled to learn that JaeRim will be working with SoEun for this, and though the first episode isn’t anything to write home about, it’s not bad. There’s just nothing explosive, unless you want to count my blood pressure when GabDol (JaeRim’s character) was ranting to GabSoon. I was like, where’s my baseball bat?!

Cinderella and the Four Knights: Of all things, I’m here for Ahn JaeHyun. Maybe it’s because I just watched Episode 4 of New Journey to the West where he’s so sweet. And maybe also because he gets the most well-developed cheeky bastard character in that drama, ha. I live for his antics.

Moonlight Drawn by Clouds: What’s there for me to say? Bogummie wrecking the royal residence? Sign me up.

Variety:

1 Night 2 Days: All hail Bogummie! He got JongMin to ride a Slingshot! This is one of the better episodes that new Yoo PD has produced and really, he’s settling in quite nicely now. Also, whoever came up with those games deserve a raise. What the hell is human magnet?? (Also, if you still don’t know, I do recaps of 1 Night 2 Days. Have always done them, ever since DongGu joined the cast. Find them here at: http://www.varietyrecaps.wordpress.com)

Three Meals a Day: Slow show, but perfect. Because sometimes all you want to see on a Friday night after spending a whole busy week in the middle of a city is some people making house in the middle of a quiet countryside.

New Journey to the West 2: I’d dropped this at episode 3 mainly because it was boring me but picked up episode 4 because, dammit, I should finish recapping this series! Best decision ever. JaeHyun is king...

W - keeps giving me headaches, tears and almost heartattacks but i love every minute of it.i love YJ & KC but SB badly needs a hug. I'm still worried when he'll go totally crazy, wouldn't surprise me if he gives up webtoon altogether

38TF - finally catching up.waited until it was done plus my real life wrecks havoc on my kdrama fangirl life.need to finish this before SIG's next drama airs.

Ca4K - still watching it despite the too many drama cliches thrown in.probably all due to JIL, plus AJH is a total surprise here. I still giggle and find it amusing his & PSD's scenes.

Doctors - binge watched from Ep11 to catch up right before Ep20 aired. Watched the finale just to know how it ended. Liked it more in earlier episodes. Good to know it kept its high ratings.

UF - recaps, reviews are enough for now.just reading recaps online keep me wondering how it will end, with only 4Eps remaining and still a lot to untangle.will pick it up again at some point just to finish it.

To watch list:
1.AoY - intrigued me due to rave reviews, recos and comments.
2. Moonlight & Scarlet - Sageuks are not my cup of kdrama tea.but will definitely watch them all for my love of PBG & LJK. The only Sageuks I've seen are due to LJK..

I have this idea that the high rating seems to have made the writer/producer freeze in fear..fear that if they did anything, will interesting, in the rest of the drama they risk bringing down those lovely rating %, so instead they spend the rest of the drama..doing nothing.

W - Two Worlds: Still my favourite drama at the moment. So much complexity, so much intrigue and an OTP I can seriously root for. At the beginning, I was distraught thinking about having to wait week after week for the episodes and how that means I have to be committed for a few months. Now, I'm sad that it will be ending in 5 episodes. Hopefully, they will give us a special episode. LJS and HHJ are so goddamn beautiful. Also, HHJ looks sooo much like SHG in many scenes... that it makes me want to see her in a drama with Song Joong Ki <3

Another Oh Hae Young: Picked this up again because I needed to watch something whilst waiting for all the currently airing dramas. I'm glad I've picked it up where they're back together... but there's still a couple of episodes left and I'm not that keen for all the other bullsht to crop up. I have a love-hate relationship with the second half of this drama for sure.

Cinderella & 4 Knights: I could never finish any of the old crack dramas because I never really bought into the heroine, but PSD has such a warm, genuine aura that makes her character so likeable. Gave this a try for her since I liked her in Because It's The First Time, but I've grown to like the Four Knights. It's a light breezy watch and balances out the intensity of W and the emotional angst of AOHY for me. Shipping HM and HW, which I know is silly but sometimes, I love a good dose of SLS (because sometimes they end up alone/single... which is convenient if I were to ever transport into the drama ala W style).

Jealousy Incarnate: Not really feeling the vibe. I adore the leads visually... but so far, I'm not really drawn to any of the characters. I agree with comments that say it feels disjointed. I know they've planted a lot of seeds to make us curious about the character's backgrounds and potential conflict... but I don't know, meh.

Once More Happy Ending: I tried to pick this up again because I adore Jang Nara and Jung Kyung Ho... but it's just so much emotional angst and crying and as much as I love Jang Nara's character and how real she is, I can't deal with her mess right now. Maybe I'll pick this up in a few months' time.

Looking to Start:
Love in the Moonlight: I love Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung is adorable, and the tone seems light so I might start this even though I am not a sageuk fan.

Love O2O: Yang Yang is so goddamn handsome. Yeah, that is my sole (shallow) reason to start watching, ngl.

Age of Youth: Might give this a try thanks to all the buzz here.

My Little Baby: This drama literally flew under everyone's radar but I like Oh Ji Ho and Kim Min Jae and I've heard it's a cute show.

Let's Eat: Seeing promos for Drinking Solo made me realise I never really watched any of the Let's Eat dramas for fear of watching people eat delicious food whilst I was hungry (and then having to eat at silly hours and get obese). Also, I like Yoon Doo Joon a lot more after SSL.

I deeply apologize to all the many (you're out there, right?) people who absolutely lived and breathed Doctors and think it's the greatest show ever, but I have just about NEVER been so glad to see a drama end. This is the very first time I have found myself disliking an actress just based upon one drama, and now I'm just 100% disinterested in ever watching something Park Shin Hye is in again. This is DESPITE how much I enjoy her in reality shows and accept that she is a totally sweet person in her real life. I'm sorry, PSH, and Kim Rae Won publicly saying that first kiss in the rain was a mistake just nailed it totally. He looked as uncomfortable with her as Rain did with Krystal in the abysmal My Lovable Girl.
OK - enough grousing from me because there are so many great new dramas on now. YIPPEEEEEE!

Lol, I lived Doctors. I don't think I breathed it though, that would go to LR & W2W. But I never been happier to see a show end as well. I mean, it was time to let go. And for the story to end as quietly as it came. I'm sad to hear that about Shin-hye though. My favorite project is when she awesomely played an introvert/recluse. That kiss in the rain was horrible and yet that is why it was the perfect first kiss for those two characters, possibly ever individually. I'm not much a fan of kiss scenes but I'm glad they got less awkward.

I haven't been following the comments section for W - not because of the content but its hard to follow threads with 400+ comments! - so this might have already been discussed. I find Yeon-joo quite interesting as the main protagonist of the drama. On the face of it she is the not so competent doctor with a pretty face and romantic yearnings which is typical heroine fare. But she is really at the centre of the drama in how events will go both with being proactive as well as reactive to events (and reacting quite cleverly for the most part in E11 for e.g.). I really like the actress' portrayal - she gives the role warmth and sweetness and the energy and logical thinking required of the situations she is thrown it. It is also kind of interesting that Kang-chul's is the passive, give in to fate role whenever manhwa world is threatened whereas YJ's is the active one of constantly attempting to change events (even if the outcome is not always in her control). Buried in this is that she is KC's life - in a literal sense of bringing him to life, which in fiction is often a masculine role. Hope they don't reverse it in the coming episodes - even though KC as the manhwa hero has to have the agency to control his fate and be heroic, I hope they stick with the YJ being the key to how this happens!

E10 and 11 - thumbs up to Dad and Soo-bong for their acting!

Yes, this so much. I feel like OYJ and HHJ's portrayal hasn't resonated with everyone the way KC and LJS has and is actually quite underrated.

I feel like the tone of the drama would be so different if HHJ didn't over-act in times because then it would be way too solemn because the drama already has really intense moments so we need those vivid reactions and expressions and the only character who can bring that to life is OYJ because she is literally the only one who is being pulled in and out of the manhwa repeatedly. It doesn't make sense for her dad to act like that because he's already aware of the manhwa writing itself at times. He is apprehensive not bewildered. The disappearing manhwa characters would be afraid and fearful rather than bewildered because their livelihood is threatened. KC had fair warning that he was a manhwa character before he came into the real world (and that was more of the shock obviously). OYJ and Soo Bong's natural reaction would be WTF is happening, even though SB hasn't even been in the manhworld. Even then, SB over-reacts but because he's meant to be the comic relief it is seen as okay in comparison to HHJ.

In a nutshell, I respect everyone has different opinions on an actor/actress' portrayal but I personally do feel like HHJ's approach to OYJ makes sense, and is much more relatable than if she had gone full actress to it. It makes the character actually feel more human to me than if her portrayal were to be more stoic and subtle.

Required fields are marked *

I am surprised it hasn't resonated! I am not familiar with HHJ's work but at least in W Two Worlds she is in control of the role - you can see why she chose this drama and why they chose her. I particularly like her in those quiet moments where she can't explain stuff but you can see her mind working on how to over come it. Plus every performance is pitched differently in W. LJS for e.g. keeps his acting limited and in control given he is a manhwa character who may be coming to life. Soo-bong (or YJ's boss) are definitely OTT, the bodyguard completely restrained. But it seems thought out given the nature of the drama and that accounts for HHJ not being all actress and subtle as you say. She hypes it up and tones it down as required.

If KC is the hero of the manhwa, YJ is the hero of W. I find her an interesting hero in that she seamlessly combines a number of feminine and masculine elements and is the most fully fleshed out character of W. She is also the only woman in the drama apart from So-hee who tellingly is a very masculine construct of femininity. Simple e.g. So-hee is always sexy, YJ is in a top and basic pants most often given her hectic life! The writer has really carefully fashioned her heroine - I could go on about it - but another day. Meanwhile hope the next few episodes don't let me down!

Required fields are marked *

I agree. While I don't always love everything HHJ is doing as an actress, I absolutely love what the script is doing with the character. It's refreshing to see a thriller-esque show where the female lead is the actual protagonist, not a side kick/love interest to the male hero and it's particularly fun since the manhwa world is driven by a traditional male action hero with a standard girl friday by his side.

What I'm watching:
Moonlight drawn by clouds: I've come to this drama with exceptionally low expectation because normally sageuks which ignore historical correctness and have a modern take and feel to it do not appeal to me to say the least. The show turns out to be exactly as I guessed it would be, but PBG and KJY are just too adorable and good in their acting I've got to literally suck up my little uncomfortable feeling to sit through the first two eps. I've never endured any show for an actor or actress even if they are my favs if the plot is meh, but this time I can foresee that I'm willing to take the mental torture for KJY and PBG. The two side characters are a nice addition to the drama and a feast for the eyes too.
Cinderella and four knights: There is just too much cheesiness and inconsistency keeps popping up in the characters' behaviour, and I cringe most of the time through episode 6, but I don't know why I keep coming back. Perhaps it's because I've got addicted to PSD's voice (what a stupid reason to keep watching a show lol) and the drama as a whole is entertaining and easy to watch, one that I can 'ew' throughout it without actually feeling frustrated or annoyed or disgusted.
PU38: I've just finished this one and oh my what a ride it was! I fell in love with almost all the characters (apart from the female lead. Perhaps it's just me but there is something wrong with her facial expression that I keep getting an impression that she's on the verge of smiling even in scenes where she's supposed to express anger/ frustration. I can't seem to connect to the actress at all). This, Signal and IRY have fast becoming my favourites recently.
Jealousy Incarnate: The first episode was choppy, but the second one was better. Some details bugged me though, such as the chest groping and the inferior depiction of weather forecasters. However since I like both leads I'm willing to stick around for a few more episodes before deciding whether or not I'm going to commit to it.
Our Gab Soon: just finished ep 1 and wasn't impressed with the lead actress. The plot so far hasn't grabbed my interest either so perhaps I'm going to drop it.
Laurel Tree Tailor: sorry if I've got the title wrong since I'm on my phone. The opening does have a R1988 feel to it but it looks like the set up will take a few episodes to be completely established, so I'll keep watching and keep my judgement till later.
W: I've dropped watching the show and maybe I'm in the minority but I'm not sold on both leads' acting. I won't be able to comment on the plot until the show finishes but so far QIHM is still the best work by this writer to me where I can easily relate to the main characters.
I'm also waiting for Scarlet Heart. However I've got an uneasy feeling that the show won't sit well with me personally, though I don't doubt its success. Some details in the trailer already irk me, but the...

"The Wailing"- Haven't finished it's kind of a slow moving plot
"Spirit's Homecoming"- I also have to finish watching this movie will try to finish it by next week.
"Finding Mr. Right"- Chinese movie, surprisingly good rom-com. Had a very Hollywood feel to it.
"The Palace"- Also a Chinese movie recommended by a friend, not to shabby worth a watch.
"Orange"- Currently watching the Anime, I saw the live action movie but so far I prefer the tone and character development of the anime.

The week between ep 6 and 7 I ended up watching the movie and decided to wait a little more for episodes to air. I would recommend that maybe you skip the movie until you are done watching the anime that way you don't get any spoilers. This was a big mistake on my part.
