Lee El jumps from MBC’s Monster right into tvN’s Goblin

 photo leeel 1.jpg

This is an actress I’ve been keeping my eye on since 2014, when she drew my attention as an amazing two-faced mercenary traitor in Liar Game. Since then, Lee El has gone on to appear in several popular projects, and was recently in Inside Men, starring Lee Byung-heon, and is currently playing a sponsor with an unrequited crush on Kang Ji-hwan’s character in MBC’s Monster

She is in the news today because she has recently announced her next project, fantasy romance drama Goblin. Lee El will be a female equivalent of a daddy long legs character for Kim Go-eun (Cheese in the Trap), the female lead. With Lee El’s steady support, Kim Go-eun will gain more strength to face upcoming trials with her love interest, the goblin.

The cast for this drama is fantastic. I can’t stop gushing about it. The first script reading was held on August 30, with most of the main cast attending, Lee El included. Gong Yoo (Train to Busan) stars as the titular goblin. I’m so excited to see him in this because he has been staying away from the small screen ever since his Big flop (Hehe. Punny, no?). He wants to end his dreary immortal existence, and the only way to do that is to find a human bride, played by Kim Go-eun.

The ever-handsome Lee Dong-wook (Bubblegum) plays an amnesiac grim reaper who happens to live with goblin Gong Yoo. I know there’s a Roommate joke somewhere, but I can’t seem to think of one… Together Gong Yoo and Lee Dong-wook help souls cross over to the afterlife. Supporting actors Yoo Inna (One More Happy Ending) and Yook Sung-jae (Who Are You–School 2015) have also confirmed. Yoo Inna’s character will be a bright and lovely attractive girl, while Yook Sung-jae plays a rebellious third-generation chaebol.

tvN’s upcoming drama Goblin begins shooting this week, and will air Friday-Saturday starting in December, after Ji Chang-wook’s The K2, which has its first broadcast date set for September 23.

She's one of those actresses i really want to landing a lead role but unfortunately she's stuck in those tertiary roles. This girl can act.

KES needs good/famous actors for the success of her shows and the actors find it worthy to work in her show to boost their career.

I'm so scared to be disappointed.
On paper, I'm all for it. The plot seems interesting (though I'm not liking the whole Chaebol thing). The cast looks AMAZING (Gong Yoo! I missed you so much! Yoo Inna, my girl crush!) but I never even liked a drama penned by Kim Eun-sook. Never.

I'll surely watch it anyway. *crosses fingers*

For weeks, I've been SO careful to stop myself from getting hyped for this kdrama because the writer tends to write total hits or misses for me (to this day, I still can't comprehend how City Hall and Heirs came from the same person) but I can't take it anymore, okay, I must hype.

Enough. I am defeated. I will anticipate and hype and just trust the writer, because if Goblin SOMEHOW doesn't turn out to be awesome with THIS cast, I may very well legitimately burst into tears.

(I do believe in kdramaland...I do, I do, I do...)

Thiiiis so much.
I hope Goblin is more of City Hall and none of Heirs or A Gentleman's Dignity.

Please let it be more City Hall. I swear, it's been years but I'm still not over that drama and how much...pure...delight it made me feel. Matter of fact, I need a rewatch.

(Even though I know that if I rewatch it now the lovely kdrama afterglow will only heighten my expectations and make me crash and burn even worse if Goblin turns out to be a flop...oh days...I do believe in kdramaland, IdoIdoIdo...)

What a GREAT cast. Loved Lee El in Liar Game, so I'm not sure if I can picture her as a daddy long legs type of character just yet. Everyone in this cast is just so promising; hopefully this drama won't be another waste of talent. *CoughHeirsCough*

I LOVE LEE EL!!! She absolutely KILLED it in Liar Game. That show was so great all around but she was such a scene-stealer.

I also have seen her in I Remember You and White Christmas and in both dramas I had to do a bit of a double take. She really is versatile in her roles.

This casting made an already amazing cast even better, but I do wish she would get lead roles. She's too good.

Whoa, I remember this actress from Wild Romance (I think I was the only person who watched that >.<), and the few scenes she was in were excellent.

I watched Wild Romance but having a hard time to remember her rol in there?

But this actress is really good. She was a scene stealer even for the minor roles.

I've been keeping an eye on her since WHITE CHRISTMAS--such a good, short drama on KBS. A lot of great actors debuted in that drama.

She's in White Christmas ? Was she the girl Woobin aka Mad Mireu had a crush on ?

Cus when a writer has written so many hit dramas, I bet she can afford to be picky about her actors/actresses. Hopefully this will live up to the hype.

But with all the actors/actresses busy in so many different projects, when will my LIAR GAME 2 be happening????:*((

The cast is stellar. Lee El was so good in Liar Game.
Trying my best to tone down my expectations, hopefully KES surprises me this time around.

I feel exactly like you! Though fortunately(or unfornately?), I've never watched a KES a drama. I feel like she's trolling us, like she's saying " resist all you want, you're going to succumb one way or the other by watch an ep or two and regreting it, cursing me or hating me but... YOU STILL WATCHED! Muhahahahahaha!!!!"

She would be a perfect Baek In Ha if only she was younger.

She would be perfect. In Ha is older than In Ho anyways :)

I am now looking forward to watching Goblin. The cast is perfect :)

She was fantastic in Liar Game & as an abused transgender patient in That's ok, it's love. Can't wait to see how she plays this character ><

Keeping my expectations moderate....I've been scarred by the freahly eclipsed moonlovers by moonlights. Buzz does not guarantee content. Please turn out good drama, you have a wonderful cast.
