Kim Yoon-hye up for second lead role in My Sassy Girl, no casting confirmations yet
by chickachunga
The casting process for the drama adaptation of My Sassy Girl continues to be a doozy.
Actress Kim Joo-hyun, winner of the ultimately futile nationwide search for Sassy’s leading lady, was relegated to second lead after Oh Yeon-seo (Come Back, Ajusshi) was offered the leading role instead. But with recent reports stating that Kim Joo-hyun may have dropped out of the project altogether, a new name is in the mix as her possible replacement: Kim Yoon-hye (Vampire Detective), whose previous works include You’ve Fallen For Me, Flower Boy Next Door, and I Need a Fairy.
Uncertainty is the only certainty here since everything is still up in the air. The confusion continues to mount, but confirmations regarding casting have yet to surface with production reps merely stating that they’re “still in talks” with Oh Yeon-seo, and that “nothing’s been decided” so far in terms of Kim Joo-hyun’s purported withdrawal and whether or not Kim Yoon-hye will play the second lead instead.
The secondary lead character’s name is Jung Da-yeon, the only daughter of a very powerful, royal court high official. Although she appears to be elegant and classy on the outside, in actuality, she takes after her father and boils with desire and ambition. She’s the queen bee in social circles and must get whatever she wants no matter what.
While casting is still in the works, the drama adaptation is considering a new title with Bizarre Joseon Love Story, and the basic premise — sassy princess meets handsome scholar — appears to remain intact. Silver linings, right?
The 100% pre-produced drama adaptation of My Sassy Girl will be simulcast in Korea, Japan, and China. Cameras start rolling (knock on wood) next month.

Mess! Hopefully another network/production company will extend a helping hand and cast Kim Joo-Hyun in something else. Poor girl must be so shocked and disappointed. Bad press all around!

Somehow I am sure she will get a chance with TVN or JTBC. From all networks they are the only ones who are always in search of new talents

It's time to give up. Now the title is different too? Is it even the same drama we were discussing before?
That said, I loved Kim Yoon Hye in Heartstrings and FBND!

It's not that easy to give up, the process to make a drama isn't short,i thought they already prepare many thing, n the productionn team already work hard, they prepare casting which mess not just a day now whatever the reason behind this it's not something they though would happen, but may be replacement is the only solution for the drama

Run joo won run!!!! This drama is a total mess. They hold auditions then say nope the auditions were not fair so they moved her to a secondary role, which seriously how disrespectful to that poor girl. Now they don't even have a lead to replace her, so not only did she get pushed aside they don't even know who's going to take her place. No wonder she left, can you imagine working on a set that treated you like that? How embarrassing. She did her best ,she did the right thing and auditioned only to have it ripped away from her.

Lol, I'm not sure that having the premise remain intact is actually a silver lining. Because really, beyond this casting joke SBS has been pulling, my biggest issue is the adaptation in itself. Joseon version of a classic with more media play than any drama I can think of for a very long time? Count me out.

So far the whole premise makes about as much sense as Harry Potter Meets the Seven Dwarves and Murders Cinderella.

Seriously, i can understand why they want OYS (pretty, popular...) but why do they want Kim Yoon Hye ? she is pratically in the same level as Kim Joo Hyun.
Honestly Kim Joo Hyun > Kim Yoon Hye.

They could pull a drama trope and have his blindness miraculously healed! But, siiiigh, I actually really would want a King of Dramas 2 and with the same cast please! Everytime I see Brad Pitt I still remember Siwon and his "Brad Pitt choreom" line. LMFAO!

What kind of title is "Bizarre Joseon Love Story??" Just a mess all around. Poor actress worked hard and won her place over hundreds of other girls and yet the production team offers someone else the job. Just terrible. Someone could produce an entire drama based off this casting snafu itself!

i would love to be have been a fly on the walls of the people who were responsible for all of this! i wonder what happened. maybe kim joo-hyun was selected and then they saw that she couldn't deliver? but then filming hasn't even started.
i feel like to some degree, joo won must be feeling insulted too. isn't he a big enough star for the network to depend on? it's not like he's infamous for foot acting or anything either—he's a solid actor.
if anything, kim joo-hyun should quit the show. the debacle has garnered enough media attention so that the next project she nabs will get her some attention... it's not all a loss. at least this way she can salvage her pride.
oof i don't see any reason why oh yeon-seo should do this either, if she truly was misled into it. can't be any good for her career, and it's not like she's in a desperate place in her career either.

The drama production team is indeed a mother of evil !!! The dramas casting is so noisy and all, Only wacth her on Heartstrings/You've fallen me, and fbnd, and her role is not something or else.
Not a fan of Saeguk dramas, since 2004 the time when i watch my very first dramas till now, The saeguk dramas that i'v been watching so far Is jewel in the palace, the great queen seondeok, Dongyi, Jang ok jung, Sungkyunwan skandals, the moon that embraces the sun, Gu family book and The three musketeers.
Since its jowon last drama before enlist, I prever a modern drama, jowon and Oh yeon seo will be a great pairing! and i think Lee jungshin is not good enough for being a Second lead male and acting opposite Jowon, Jungshin isn't that popular, yet his acting is average, i doubt he can carry the show unlike Yonghwa and Minhyuk did.

Despite not loving Vampire Detective, Kim Yoon Hye can work with OCN again or the other two cable channels. At least they give better opportunities/roles. Just not SBS, pls.

Joo Won has disappointed me in so many level already. I hated cantabile and when he decided to become a rapist in a chinese movie and later to star in a chinese drama, I became an ex fan. But still I keep myself updated about his casting news because I know he is a good actor...and now this mess. Just too bad!

He acted as a rapist in a movie? Since it's Chinese and obscure, I am going to assume it's a not so good movie. Having said this, how I wish more actors would do diverse roles.
I want to see people like Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Jong Suk, Lee Min Ho and Joo Won go full out villain. Isn't this what acting is about? I'd be bored if their careers are filled with 'good guy' roles. Imagine KSH play a murderer or LJS a psychopath, my drama or movie watching will be more exciting.
I am old enough to differentiate actor's real life from reel. As long as he is only criminal on screen, I am totally fine.

Joo-won is a good actor. He takes on too many different types of roles and that's what distinguishes him from other actors of his generation.
As for his bad projects, I do think that 1) He makes unwise choices 2) He may be under the influence of his agency 3) He is often the one that saves a bad show.
