It’s all muscles and kittens for action drama The K2
by javabeans
He’ll always be Healer to me, but Ji Chang-wook looks like he’ll be just as action-driven for his latest drama, tvN’s upcoming The K2. In the show, he plays a former elite soldier who is employed as a bodyguard to the wife of a presidential candidate, who’s played by Song Yoon-ah (Assembly). Although in this still, he looks more interested in protecting kitties. (Look at that tiny little thing!)
Ji’s character is described as skilled in martial arts and armed with cool-headed judgment, and we’re told that he’s been abandoned by his country and fellow countrymen, though it’s not clear yet how. The leading lady is missing from the photos below of the drama’s official script reading, but that role will be played by idol star Yoon-ah (Prime Minster and I), who was cast after the reading took place. Her character is an isolated young woman who suffers from a childhood trauma that prevents her from being able to communicate with the world. Yet it’s through her that the hero will begin to feel newfound emotions.
Meanwhile, Jo Sung-ha (Neighborhood Hero, Hwajung) plays the presidential candidate and Song Yoon-ah’s husband, while Kim Gab-soo (Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho) will be his rival. Hm, why do I find it difficult to know who’s the good guy and who’s the bad guy among them? Although, I suppose there’s also a fair shot that neither of them is a good guy.
Well, they’ve certainly got me intrigued. The plot information is pretty scant at this stage so I’m going a lot on faith here, and hoping that this drama will represent the better end of the spectrum of the producers’ talent—that is to say, more on the Chuno and Conspiracy in the Court end for PD Kwak Jung-hwan (and not so much Basketball), and more of the first half of Yong-pal for writer Jang Hyuk-rin, as opposed to the latter half. (He also wrote OCN’s thriller Reset.) More than that, though, I’m looking forward to seeing Ji Chang-wook back on TV, and hoping that he’ll live up to his unprecedented paycheck; it was recently reported that Ji Chang-wook has drawn the biggest-ever per-episode fee at tvN. Considering some of the big-name stars tvN has cast, that’s an impressive metric. Do us proud, Healer-ya!
The K2 will be tvN’s next Friday-Saturday show, airing after The Good Wife. It premieres on September 23.

Am I crazy for not seeing Yoona in the cast group photo? Is she hidden somewhere?

I missed his face in kdramas! How could he just do one and leave us like that.
That picture though. I feel like I have to look at it with a timer or I'll just keep staring!

Hi @Sky
I don't know the exact detail. Chinese government has instituted some kind of policy that would either severely limit or ban SK actors/actresses/idols working in China. So, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your point of view, JCW will have stay in kdrama-land for some time.

Late to the party, but BRUH. Look at those arms. *wipes drool* Hm, a kitty? Oh yeah. Sorry. His muscles were crowding the screen, I was too busy to notice.
JCW, man, I missed you so much in kdramaworld. His latest c-drama just isn't cutting it for me. Please, show, please be good!
I'm ok with Yoona. The supporting cast sounds solid. I haven't watched any previous works from the PD and writer but I hope they can deliver.

Excited for JCW's return to dramaland, especially in (what looks to be) another action-packed drama. I hope the writing delivers.
(staring at those guns in the first pic *o*)

I previously knew of no one who'd rock that hairstyle, JCW, but now I do. He's lookin amazing, as he always does, I suppose.
I'm rather excited to see Yoona and him together in the same frame. The fan arts have been awesome so far and the longer it takes for me to see it, the more hyped I am. Yoona might not be a great actress but she actually matches every costar she's worked with really well.

I can't believe I'm actually regretting the fact that I'm in Amsterdam for a Hen-do that week this drAma starts airing! Lol! I'm so disappointed I'm going to miss the first episodes! That's how much I miss Wookie! (After 2 episodes I just had to give up on the Chinese drama he's in that's currently airing, no matter how much I love him!). Yey to K2!

I stared at the pic for a good complete minute, but I didn't see the lil kitten. The arms... I was so distracted by the arms and the smile that I had to look for the kitten specifically after reading the comments.
I feel the kitten was strategically placed to emphasize his arms.

Coincidentally, I'm actually rewatching Healer right now. When I read the title, I was afraid it was about mountains for a second, but bodyguard? I'm so on board with bodyguards! I love bodyguards *.*
Oh man, I totally didn't want to watch dramas live anymore, so much better to (kinda) marathon then when they're done. And now there're like three at once I wanna watch. Who has the tiiiime? T^T

Definitely looking forward to see this one. Ji Chang-wook + Yoona? ? !! I really hope this won't let down, but Ji Chang-wook will win me over even if the plot doesn't.
