Bold, faithful, and devilish for Moonlight Drawn By Clouds

It isn’t to say that any K-drama these days lacks for beauty, but KBS fusion fantasy romance sageuk Moonlight Drawn By Clouds is really throwing the pretty at us — leads Park Bo-gum and Kim Yoo-jung were lovely in their character posters, and the secondary leads are giving them a run for their money.
Here are Jinyoung (Warm and Cozy) and Chae Soo-bin (Sassy Go Go ) looking as beautiful as ever, while Kwak Dong-yeon (Pied Piper) is suddenly all growed up and nearly unrecognizable. Wow. Is this really that intense kid fighter from Age of Feeling and the goofy rocker-farmer in Modern Farmer? File him away in the Best Mane of Glory category.
A refresher, if you’re like me and basically tuned everything out that wasn’t about the crown prince (Park Bo-gum) falling in love with his girl-in-eunuch’s-clothing (Kim Yoo-jung): Jinyoung plays a “devilish flower boy scholar” named Kim Yoon-sung who falls in love with the heroine. Hm, does devilish mean he’s eeeeevil, or just devilishly charming? Well, I mostly know him from playing sweet, pretty boys (Persevere, Gu Hae-ra and Warm and Cozy), so this could be an interesting change. He’s so rich that metaphors get twisted just for him; he was born with a “diamond spoon” in his mouth, rather than the typical golden or silver spoons that ordinary rich folk get.
Chae Soo-bin’s character, named Jo Ha-yeon, is the crown princess who, counter to her innocent looks, is also a cool-headed, proud, confident modern (for Joseon) woman. How confident? She’s the one who seeks out the crown prince to propose an arranged political marriage with him. I’m pretty sure that’s entirely historically inaccurate, but hey, I’m not watching this show for any semblance of history, that’s for sure.
Kwak Dong-yeon plays the prince’s bodyguard Kim Byung-yeon, having grown up along the prince as lifelong friends. He’s an ace swordsman and a faithful companion to the prince, and seems to have the brooding smolder down pat.
Moonlight Drawn By Clouds will take up the post-Beautiful Mind Monday-Tuesday timeslot after the Summer Olympics conclude, and premieres on August 22.

I wish the makeup artists had gone easy on her eyebrows though, those near-precise black rectangles are way too graphic for a soft-featured face like hers.

Talking about singing well, can KBS make him to sing a OST like Suzy and Kim Woobin for UF? Although the other two lead actors also can sing well. (It's funny, all of them were singer-trainee, even Jinyoung debuted as singer)

Im a big fan of hair on men. I have to admit to a prejudice against sageuks where those traditional hats hide the mens hair. A big reason I never warmed to the male lead in Sungkyung (sp?) Scandal and liked the male roommate with hair instead, I suspect. I kmow, shallow, right? Give me a longhaired hunk over a prim and proper baldy (or hidden hair) any day. I dont know why fantasy or fusion sabeuks cant retcon historical male fashions. Thats what fusion and fantasy mean - take the license the genre gives you,and gimme some hair, baby!

I don't know its content but based on illustrations Crown Princess also has soft spot for Ra On so me thinks she will help them, no matter what she is sad character here :< But I hope she gets her own happy ending since its light heartened segauk ^^

From what I know, the Crown Prince died young, and life as a Joseon upper-class widow was pretty terrible - the Princess wouldn't have been allowed to remarry, and if she was childless she'd have been shut away somewhere out of sight, or encouraged to commit suicide to prove her virtue (think the Joseon-set portion of You From Another Star).

She looks sad here because he was in love with another woman in this story.
In reality, the royal couple had a son (future King Heonjong) when they were still teen agers. Her clan became the only rival of the powerful Andong Kim clan that held most of the political power.
She lived to help their son rule at a very young age of 8.
This is a sad but intriguing time in Korean history. Things went downhill after Yi-san (King Jeongjo). Everyone else after that including Crown Prince Hyomyeong's father and son were puppet kings controlled by their mother/grandmother and their families.
I hope the drama follows the novel because it doesn't end well for any of the later kings of Joseon.

I really hope the Crown Princess isn't remodelled into a typical bitchy/jealous kdrama second lead for the drama. Chae Soo-bin deserves better, even Sassy Go Go gave her motivation for her actions that were not 'I like a boy who likes someone else'.

I'm telling you, I avoid drama hype like the plague, but....man I can't stay away from this one. I think it has something to do with Park Bo Gum, which is kind of humiliating, since I tend to be really snotty when it comes to fangirlism. I curse you, Dramaland.

Kwak Dong-yeon's character is based on a real life historical figure. He was only 2yrs older than Crown Prince Hyomyeong.
Kim Byung-yeon was a well known brilliant scholar and a great revolutionary poet. His poetry inspired people, especially the lower class and give them hope.
Hopefully, this bodyguard would be influenced by the crown prince to make a career change in the end.

MBC orginally said it would air episode 7, then later said maybe also episode 8.
Then they said they would look at how Korea does today during the Olympics, then announce Wednesday morning if they would air either episode...so it is currently a maybe for any episode 。・°°・(＞_＜)・°°・。

As a super fan of B1A4, hopefully this is the last drama Jinyoung does for a while. He's really good at composing but lackluster at acting. Stick to your strengths homeboy! I'm also pretty sure he got this role because Kim Yoon Jung is in this drama and she's close to the members (probably also how Baro got his role in Angry Mom.)

as a fellow fan, i'm disappointed that you think so of Jinyoung. while his acting is lacking, insinuating that he got his role because of his connection when for every drama and film that he acted in, he auditioned for it. yes his management might suggested some script to him but he still need to auditioned for the role, just like what he did for Warm&Cozy, he auditioned for it. and to suggest that Baro got his role because of Yoojung is an insult to both of them. shame on you.

right? it's ridiculous.. both of them are working hard to do an audition, and jinyoung is an actor trainee before he debut in B1A4, so being an actor is one of his dream, to think that jinyoung and baro got a role because of connection is ridiculous no matter how much they're lacking in acting..

yeah, you can criticized them about their acting but implying things like that is not ok. while Yoojung might have done a few works with B1A4 members, i don't think she could just make the director and the pd cast whomever she wants. that is implying that she hold some power upon the production team. which is ridiculous since she is just a child actress.

Whoa, no! I worded that way wrong. I wasn't trying to say he's bad and he got the role because of someone else.
I'm saying that he auditioned because he is close to Yoo Jung. Not that Kim Yoon Jung "gave" him the role. I still think he's not the greatest actor, but not that he was given the role by her he had to audition for it of course. Same with Baro, he had to act for his role, and I'm sure it was a plus that he would end up working with her.

Beautiful posters, interesting video teasers (esp the first one, so hilarious!! aw yeah dancing with bogum babeh), no reason to not watch this drama. I hope this drama goes well though, I'm afraid SBS will crush KBS (again) with Doctors and coming-soon-Scarlet Heart.
Anyway I wonder how hot they would be when they're filming in those korean traditional clothes in such a pretty hot weather..

Wow Kwak Dong-yeon!!! I don't know wether to woo over the loss of his dorkiness or swoon because he got that look down to a T! Can't we have a bumbling dorky bodyguard who can smolder and ponder on superficial angst? Like one of those Vampire idols LOL! I mean he would have their passion for protecting the prince but then he'd be super dorky and fumbling while doing it. And running off his mouth. Remember how totally adorable KDY looks when he's sulky? Although I would hope that he'd be reliable in his profession, so let's make it like an emergency situation thing. Like Rorouni Kenshin! Ohmygaaad. Imagine that in that mane of glory and that perfect eyebrow furrow. That's poetic. And so much fun!

I found Jinyoung totally off putting in Peservere Gu Haera, and a lot more tolerable in Warm and Cozy so I am curious to see what he'll be like here in his first saguek.
As for Kwak Dong-Yeon I'm so excited to see him. I'm blown away by his talent. Hope this role gives him the exposure he needs for a lead role.
