Namgoong Min joins action comedy Temporary Special Agent
by javabeans
Aw yay, I’m happy to hear that Namgoong Min (Beautiful Gong Shim) is taking on a comedy next, even if it doesn’t sound like his character will be outright comedic: He’s confirmed signing onto the movie Temporary Special Agent, an action comedy about a desk jockey at the National Security Agency and a white-collar-crimes detective teaming up to recover the NSA’s budget when it gets lost to a voice-phishing scam. HA. It’s an absurd-sounding plot, but I’m up for it.
The casting of those two main characters was announced recently as going to Kang Ye-won (Baek-hee Has Returned) as the NSA employee and Han Chae-ah (Master of Trade — Inn 2015) as the detective… which leaves Namgoong Min to play the role of the voice phisher. Hee. I’m used to seeing him play the villain, but usually there’s more blood and guts involved; this should be new.
Namgoong Min’s role is of a mid-level boss of a voice-phishing operation, with good looks and polite manners who’s also shrouded in mystery, ruling his organization with a cold heart and tight fist. Considering he’s a pro at being a soft-spoken evil villain (Girl Who Sees Smells) as well as the wild, violent evil villain (Remember—Son’s War), I’d say he’s got his bases covered. It’s too bad he couldn’t be a more overtly funny character since I loved how weird and eccentric he was in Beautiful Gong Shim and want to see more of that quirkiness, but with the offbeat plot and the excellent leading ladies, I’m sure there’ll be time for Namgoong Min to have a little fun with his character too.
Temporary Special Agent will begin filming in August, and plans to premiere early next year.
Kang Ye-won, Han Chae-ah

Aww... I'm still hoping they'll find a way to make his character funny. I need more Dan-tae style weirdness!

I second that! I love him as Dan Tae! Since we've already established that Nam Goong Min can do variations of evil, can we test him on variations of funny too? ♥

Actually, I always love Namgoong Min, but I'm more excited that the two main leads are women. We need more female badasses (or comediennes trying to be badass) in Korean films!

I am really thankful for Ahn Dan Tae (because probably he got this offered because of that role), and now I can like his handsome face without feeling bad for myself.

Ooh, great to hear he's snagged a movie role now. His career is steadily growing! Of course since we might not see that flick here I'm a tad disappointed it's not another drama but I'm happy for him.

Yay for Oppa! Super happy he is doing something so soon after BGS.
Since it's a movie I'll watch it even if he is the bad guy- I can't quite bring myself to watch 16 or so episodes of him being evil. I loved Dan Tae's quirky character too much.

I always loved his looks. I don't know if I'm the only one seeing this all the time...but he seriously looks like the older version of CNBlue's Jung Yong Hwa who I find so handsome too. The resemblance is so striking that they could seriously pass as biological brothers. I also hear people saying he looks like Kim Hyun Joong but I don't see that at all...he looks like JYH more. Anyone see this too or am I the only one?

That's what I thought when I first watched You're Beautiful. I knew Namgoong Min from his movies and JYH looked like his younger brother. It took me awhile to realize that they're not related at all.
The same thing has been happening to me with several other actors and their unintended dopplegangers.
K-ent's paranormal activity maybe? LOL...

he is great at comedy, quirky, on point, sort of eccentric and weird. if Choi Siwon is pure slapstick and just hella funny straight and without filter, then Namgoong Min has this weird filter... I definitely wnt to see him do more funny stuff. TBH, I always found his villains slightly stiff. He seemed more relaxed in Fair Lady Gong Shim

He looks great in that picture! I haven't seen his hair styled up like that before.
Glad to see him to a new show. Wish I could watch more of him being funny though.

I'm so happy for him although I wish it were a drama. I don't care what roles he takes as long as he captivates me with it, which he has been able to do so wonderfully for his most recent works.

NM should take con lessons from Seo In Guk for this role!
The actress who played Baek Hee - she is quite awesome being badass! I enjoyed that short drama very much!
