tvN carves out Fri-Sat slot for Cinderella and the Four Knights
by javabeans
Interesting. Upcoming rom-com drama Cinderella and the Four Knights, starring Jung Il-woo and Park So-dam, has been floating around without a timeslot for a while now, and with the slots from all the major stations getting snapped up by other dramas, it was looking like we might not get to see the drama this year. Then tvN finally snapped it up, and has decided that rather than waiting for a timeslot to open up, it’ll just create one. Though the decision hasn’t been finalized, tvN is in final scheduling stages to give Cinderella a new drama hour on Fridays and Saturdays — so rather than taking up residence in the existing drama hour (currently occupied by Dear My Friends), it will most likely air on late nights at 11PM.
I don’t know if this bodes well or ill for the drama, but to take a glass-half-full approach, I like that this means we’ll be seeing the drama sooner rather than later; it always feels like the longer a completed sits on the shelf, the less likely its chances become of ever seeing daylight. Cinderella didn’t exactly help things along by running behind production schedule (it began filming in January with the intention of being 100 percent pre-produced, but shoots got delayed and didn’t wrap until very recently), but it would have been sad to have the project shelved or sidelined because of it. (Also, I’m really sad that Jung Il-woo hasn’t been very active in Korea in recent years and just really want to see him him again soon, especially before he’s called for army duty.)
A late-weekend slot may not be the prime slot for ratings, but it could still work out decently for the show. I recall when tvN first created its Friday-Saturday programming block and people were skeptical at its chances, only to have it take off and become home to some of the station’s biggest hits (the Answer Me franchise, Three Meals a Day, the Grandpas/Noonas/Youths Over Flowers series, Misaeng). And if this marks a permanent new timeslot, I am excited at the idea of more tvN content (and yes, also a little exhausted at the idea of having more content to watch and cover).
Cinderella and the Four Knights, which tells the story of a young woman who is employed to work in a chaebol household where three chaebol cousins live (who, along with a bodyguard, make up the titular knights), will premiere in early August.

I remember Cha Chi soo (with a Pororo blanket in hand) whining to his dad then Eun bi suddenly barged in with a toilet plunger to save her prince. Heol.
Those were the days...

I am so happy to hear this! I love Jung Il-Woo so I will watch this just because of him. I hope this new timeslot will work out for tvN and the show. And if it's a success it means more dramas to watch! Bad for recappers but good news for us watchers!

Considering the massive ratings successes, expanding its drama programming seems like a good move.
I don't know who's actually running TvN but they're SMART.

I'm all in with another time slot added and a new drama added to the list on the long run...curious who the actual drama will do as from what we know the plot sounds quite light and for younger viewers...I kinda feel bad for Jung Il-woo because he isin't that active in Korea and he's past project weren't that good...He may not be one of my favorites,i consider his acting style cheesy if it makes any sense but i like him and would welcome a good project....

It might work well for Cinderella since it won't be in direct competition with all the family dramas and Flower in Prison.

Worried about the ratings. Im a fan of Jung Ill Woo and the time isnt good. I dont think people in Korea, who are known to be super busy, stay up and watch this drama :(((

Doesn't TvN have a Monday/Tuesday 11pm timeslot. I think CitT and OHYA both aired during that time and were successful. The same time on a weekend should be easier to sell, no?

Think of it this way, this would actually be less stressful in regards to ratings. It's in a new experimental timeslot so there's no expectations yet, if it flops then the blame won't be on the drama. On the other hand, if they're given the established timeslots that have proven high ratings are possible, then there's a set goal they must reach.

Jung il woo needs to think TWICE before choosing his projects!! I feel like he is a carefree type of person and just wants to make money and have a comfortable life. I still cannot believe his talent was wasted in "The Moon that embraces the sun". He shouldn't have played in that drama.
He also needs to challege himself with difficult characters. Maybe he should give a solid and good meldrama a try like "secret".
He is a really handsome actor and for Korea's taste and standard, he is goodlooking and charismatic enough to be the lead actor and NOT a wishywashy chessy second male. I really wish him more success in future. He deserves better scripts and opportunities.

I thought he was brilliant in Moon Embracing the Sun. I thought it was one of those projects of his where his character wasn't forgettable. He seems to prefer the light comedy ones, but when he does serious he can be good. The last drama I watched of him was High End Crush. A little bit of his character in Flower Boy Ramyun but cute and within the usual genre he would choose. Yet forgettable. His fashion there wasn't though. It would be odd to see it on others but the guy can pull off any look he chooses. He's that pretty.

jung il-woo used to be sooooo popular after high kick... i was in korea at the time and he was everywhere, plastered all over the subways and everybody was crazy about him. now it's hard to see him...
which reminds me that i feel like kdramaland is long overdue for a really good crack sitcom. i LOVED soonpoong clinic growing up, which is legendary now but you can't expect another one of those... i loved the original high kick, but not so much its successors. kimchi cheese smile was fantastic, but that was ages ago in 2007 too. i can't think of anything good that came after these. maybe if vampire idol counts? if it had received a proper send off?

I have a feeling this show will hit web ratings higher than actual television ratings considering the time slot....I'm sure viewers will watch it over the weekend online or something. It may have been a better idea to make it a web drama, and use the money for creative promotional ideas...the slot time is iffy in my opinion...
I will be watching the show though! A house full of chaebols!? Heck yes.

Man, it feels like forever since this drama was announced. I'm aging man! I need some Jung Il woo in my drama life soon! Haven't seen him since Ramyun shop closed back in 2011. And back with more flower boys! Wait, should we call them "flower boy knights" instead?

Oh, I am ALL for more tvN programming! I hope this drama is decent. I have pretty low expectations but we'll see, it could end up being an enjoyable shoujo mange-like drama.

Severely dislike the Cinderella part of the title. But the cast is nice and I'm really hoping for JIW's sake this drama will be decent.

This drama reminds me of the Taiwanese drama Romantic Princess. I really liked the first half of that drama but then the second half was not as good. I'm excited for this one.
I also really like that Japanese drama Atashinchi no Danshi, which was also really good!
