The fisticuffs begin on Bring It On, Ghost

The action is just getting started on tvN’s summer horror comedy Bring It On, Ghost, which features an odd-couple relationship between an exorcist and the schoolgirl ghost who moves into his home. The webtoon that the series is based on has the two leads meeting in a violent, epic showdown where both sides are shocked that the other keeps fighting back and not dying. Leads Kim So-hyun (Page Turner) and Taecyeon (Assembly) are busy learning fight choreography for their scenes, and it’s pretty cool to see Kim So-hyun taking on a badass action role.
The new Monday-Tuesday drama stars Taecyeon as a college student who moonlights as an exorcist. It’s a fancy term but he’s not expelling them by supernatural means — he mostly beats the crap out of ghosts until they flee whatever place they’re haunting, because he can see and touch them. That works fairly well for him until he meets Kim So-hyun one night while he’s on the job, and she surprises him by fighting back.
She’s a high school senior who died before being able to do the one thing she lived her whole life for — taking the college entrance exam. She’ll take up residence in the exorcist’s house and begin to discover that life (or the afterlife, rather) can be full of fun and excitement beyond studying.
Kwon Yul (One More Happy Ending) will play a mysterious vet, and Kang Ki-young (Come Back, Ajusshi) and Lee David (Mirror of the Witch) play Taecyeon’s friends and members of a supernatural club called Ghost Net. In the stills it looks like a super geeky club that watches reruns of the The X-Files and makes videos about hauntings or something.
In Taecyeon’s character teaser, we don’t get much else beyond him running through the streets to chase down a scary ajusshi ghost. I like the behind-the-scenes clip of him and Kim So-hyun in fight training, because they look like they’re having fun and getting into the action, which is promising. Plus, Taec tells the trainers that Kim So-hyun’s character is technically supposed to be a better fighter than him, which makes me very happy. Pint-sized girl kicking ass and taking names — what’s not to love?
Bring It On, Ghost premieres July 11 on tvN.

Feeling wayyyy more optimistic about this show now. Taec looks younger with his hair like that, and as long as KSY's character is badass and awesome I'll probably be able to look past his acting shortcomings. And besides, maybe he's improved. Hope springs eternal? (Ignoring the age gap for now...I always thought any love story with a teenage actress would creep me out, but Mirror is doing surprisingly well.) In any case, I'll definitely give it a chance!

Finally, one thing that Taecyeon is good: acrobatic action moves.
Since he is a good dancer and 2PM often performs acrobatic choreography.
I'm excited to watch Kim Sohyun to play as badass ghost. This girl rocks!

Ok I started reading the webtoon last night and I made it through like.. 45 chapters in less than 3 hours.
The start was ultra hilarious, but then it got more serious and dark. I'm curious how the drama is going to balance those elements out, but by the looks of it so far, the drama seems to be taking a different direction completely. The addition of new characters like the friends & the vet are a completely new concept. (in the webtoon, Bongpal is a loner, he has no one by his side)
I'm curious about how this drama is going to go, I hope it's entertaining. The webtoon sure is. I'm off to read the rest of the translated chapters now lol.

yeah and there's so much swearing too lol it definitely would not go down well on Korean tv. They're gonna have to tone it down for sure.
It is so funny but I was also surprised at how dark & contemplative it got towards the end of Part 1. Deep stuff.

orange marmalade! I was so excited about the drama...and it was so disappointing. From cold but protective Shihoo,who was freakin hilarious in the webtoon to the not-as-mean Ara becoming one with the group. And,oh! The heroine's friends were not present. I wish when they turn webtoons into dramas, that they at least stick to the core of the plot

Holy crap I've only read the first several chapters but it is hilarious! Like omg I was not expecting it but you're not really not exaggerating.
I hope they keep that blunt kind of humour in the drama, it's seriously refreshing. I'm already sad that I feel they're going to go a completely different direction to make it more palatable for the average viewer...I just want to see them pull it off.
I don't mind them adding extra characters to flesh out the world a bit more so long as they don't make it where the only similarity is that she's a ghost and he's an "exorcist".

If this is more comedy and drama than romance it can be easily one of the most interesting stories released this year. Don't make me loose my hope on you, tvN!

Hmm...in the webtoon, Bong Pal is 18 yrs old. Hyun Ji died at 19 yrs old and she mentions that it's been 2 yrs since her death. So that would make her 21 yrs old if she was still alive.
In the drama, the character chart that was released said Bong Pal is 25 yrs old. So if you put Hyun Ji at 21 yrs old...they still wouldnt be the same age. Unless...the drama changes how long she's been dead for.

if it rly was just a horror comedy without romantic elements i honestly wouldnt mind. i'd be willing to try it then, cuz i adore ksh and seeing her beat ppl up, esp taec, can only be a good time. but the idea of them being skinshippy or romantic or the like makes me cringe so hard. just...eww. but mismatched partners/buddies in supernatural crime? i'm cool with that! (not holding my breath tho -_-)

Taec's so cute...I await the day he's able to convert his natural charm into acting ability (although I do think he's been improving step by step. Baby steps I guess).
Not happy with the age gap but at he's playing a college student and it's still better than the discrepancy in Mirror of the Witch (which disgusts and infuriates me, and it's supposedly a really good drama so it makes me even more mad that I can't watch it).

I used to have the same reason not to watch Mirror, but now it's a regret to not to. There's so much more than 'having 14-year gap on both leads'. The romance is on hold, the story is amazing, and the characters are well played. That show definitely have twists.
It did surprise me, and I think I should have better expectation in this, and maybe much better in Moonlight.

Mmm...just because she's always a student or that she's mostly sporting bangs doesn't mean she plays the exact same character. I know she plays such tragic characters...but they're tragic in different ways. And at least her ghost character this time is supposed to be a bit brighter/happy...ish. LOL
If you mean character-wise: Soo Yeon (IMY) - rape victim, Eun Bi (School 2015) - bullying victim, Eun Bi (Reset) - highschool delinquent/drop out/murder suspect, Eun Byul (School 2015) - top student with silently tortured personality, Soo-Ok (Pure Love) - teenager with bum leg, Yoo Seul - blind, top piano student, Hyun Ji (LFG) - dead high school ghost and a badass ghost fighter. And if you also add her upcoming movie Princess Deok Hye - she's gonna play a nice, upstanding princess which would be different from her 2 drama sageuk roles where she played villain. If I list it like that...yes they're mostly students with mostly sad stories, but I wouldn't say they're the exact same character.

And if you mean personality-wise, it's inevitable that there's gonna be overlap with some traits but she's played a good balance between evil, nice, angsty and strong/abrasive types. I mean I thought Yoo Seul was gonna be the same as Eun Byul but aside from the sharp tongue they were nothing alike in how they acted. And I know she's had multiple characters attempt suicide but at the end of the day they were different characters with different driving forces.
And even if it were true that she plays the exact same character in literally EVERYTHING she's in like you said...at least she does them well. I don't think I can confidently say the same for Taec's various different characters. LOL And wouldn't it be worse if he acts the same way when he plays different characters?

Now that it has all come to this, all I can hope for is that the show delivers. I just can't dislike Taec when he's so adorable in real life so please please please, I hope you've improved. Best of luck to us who are thinking of watching this. Prayer circle, anyone?

Aww my baby Sohyun is learning to kick ass! Yeo Jingoo and Kim Yoojung both said Sohyun is the shy and quiet type, so it's great to see her pouring it all into acting.
