What do I have to do to get Won Bin & Shin Min Ah in a drama together ?? lol. (That Maxim T.O.P commercials are not enough !!.)
- I've had this thought for so long, I need to type it out and send it into Dramabeans World, hopefully someone out there in Korea will make it happen lol.

Very different from WoN Bin.

What do we have to do to get Won Bin to act again, is the more appropriate question.
I can't believe he basically ended his acting career before he turned 33, and it rankles even more because that final project was so amazing.

Does Marathoning a show makes you like it less ?
... I found if i marathon - no matter how good a show is, i tend to start fast forwarding in the later episodes and the flaws in story structure stand out even more

Depends on the drama I think. If it's good and I'm DYING to see the next episode and what happens next then it becomes addictive and I Can't stop if I know there is another episode available. Sometimes if the story is draggy it also helps that I can quickly watch the parts I don't like and concentrate on the bits I do!
But yeah I do agree sometimes if you marathon then because of things like sleep deprivation and hunger (which happened to me at 4 am when I just HAD to watch the last 2 episodes of the drama) the interesting nuances get missed and it spoils the drama as a whole.

Marathon can make a drama less-compelling,
It makes me tired and forgets some important detail
I like to watch 4 ep max when marathoning before takes a rest or stop when I annoyed by the main character,
Marathoning also highlighting the things they do often,
like how often they getting drunk misunderstanding,
how often they miss the important schedule because a little thing that doesn't need,
how often the story takes a turn around when talking about an important subject,
how many fan service they give each episode,
or how the secondary character became less and less important besides getting so much premise before
but sometimes, marathon work for me in weekend drama when I only like a certain couple and skip the others story or the overly long and complicated angst to get over it shortly

I don't know if it makes me like it less but the show is usually less memorable. I remember the shows I watch as they were airing better than the ones I marathoned..even if they weren't necessarily that good.

For some drama, yes. We don't get to feel the hype, the discussion or anticipation of waiting every week. And as you say, the flaws tend to stand out.
But it goes both way for me. Marathoning what seems to be originally a good show makes me appreciate the structure of storyline and other aspects. I marathon IRY, IOIL, Liar Game, Bad Guys and many other my fav-list drama; while i do recognize some flaws, the overall goodness outweighs the badness and it makes me love the show even more.
I like marathon bcs i can watch it in my own pace based on my schedule. And also bcs i don't like surprise, dramaworld tends to surprise me in not very good way. Whatever rocks our boat i guess ?

I like marathoning better for the same reason, but I watch live these days because I want to know what happened when I read recap - meaning I watch the show as the order being recapped (drama JB and GF's recap has higher priority to watch because they are first recapped)

I guess it depends on the show. When the show is interesting, a marathon session makes me anxious to watch all the episodes in a row and pulls me for hours or days into the drama's world. That feeling still amazes me!
On the other hand, I think marathoning mediocre kdramas, brings out all the usual flaws of the entertainment: live-shoot system, rating hunger, revised scripts, unnecessary plot devices, characters who fade away and so on.
Sometimes, watching live a not-so-good drama, may cover up for all the rough edges. Post-watching thinking (plus blogging and exchanging opinions with other viewers) makes me always realise what exactly I had endured. But then it's too late, isn't it? LOL...
My two cents... :-)

It depends on the genre for me. If it's light and fluffy I'd prefer to marathon it. If it's heavy and serious, I'd prefer to watch, stop and absorb. Maybe read or do a little research to help me understand it more.

This would be my answer as well. I would not want to marathon Answer Me 1998, Six Flying Dragons or Dear My Friends. But Cheese in the Trap, Hogu's Love, Flower Boy Next Door, and Answer Me 1997, I can marathon if all episodes are available at the time.

It definitely depends on the show. If the show is well-paced and well-written, marathoning is exhilarating. But if it's the clunky, spotty but decent writing we normally get, all it does is point out the flaws.

I was going to ask the entirely opposite question in today's OT. My most favourite shows are those that I marathon and no matter how much I like a live watched show (Marriage Contract, OHYA), they don't compete with those that I uave marathoned. I wonder why.

Depends on your definition of "marathoning." If you mean watching a show straight through, then yeah. Just the physical cost of watching 16 hours PLUS without a break (for those of you hard core, depends wearing, addicts) lessens the nuances of the show.
"I don't care about the perifriel (spell check can't even figure out what word I mean here) characters. I just want to see who the main female lead ends up with."
I think marathoning all at one time is tiring.
I indulge in marathon-llke watching. Right now I'm rewatching Master's Son. I will probably take a week to finish it. I am doing it in "semi" marathon fashion. When I get tired, I stop.

I have a (bad) habit when I'm doing a drama marathon and there's a recap of it on dramabeans, I'd would read through the recap AS i was watching the drama. It's that bad, and then I start to skip some parts (as I can read them and can sense it'll be a bit mehh). But it's the damn curiousity that made me do it, I can't help not knowing. Therefore, it's better for me to watch current airing dramas than marathoning a finished one.

same here. Most of my favorite dramas are found from 'marathoning', because I only focus on the story (no room for thinking other elements and reading people's comment about it, because I simply can't wait to finish it). But sometimes, watching a current-airing show is good too if it has 'heavy' conflict etc.

I don't marathon, though if the episodes are short (say, less than 30 minutes each), I try to watch maybe three or four at one go. I tend to watch the last couple of episodes back to back since the penultimate episode usually ends on a cliffhanger or something, so that helps to keep the momentum going.

It depends a lot on what the show was made for. The genre and production of the show influence what it will feel like as you watch. For example Signal holds up even if binge watched because it was pre-produced and tightly plotted.

Does Marathoning a show makes you like it less ?
No, it does not. If anything, it helps me keep track of plot developments and characters, especially in sageuks with a cast of thousands. ;-)
Then again, I never fast-forward. If anything, I end up rewinding like crazy to be able to catch the subtitles.
I should probably pace myself better, though, and not binge on 16 episodes in 2-3 days. Ah, the addictive joys of Kdramas. ;-)

Happy Weekend, not watching much drama lately
upon watching Lucky Romance , I've been thinking about Bo Nui character, as I think about it, she always got a bad luck, then her parents passed away when they got her a ticket, her sister got an accident when she applies in Zeze, and she's been alone for 2 years. She works part time to paid the medical bill while working in IF to make her sister can live normally when she wakes up. So around 2 years, she been working and living for her sister and try all medical application for her which doesn't work. She then adds the mystical force to give her a new hope.
It's sad, she gets it real hard, even when I remember Suho and Geun Wook just appear in her life so she has no one before? I can relate to her because there's a time when you already write down what's gone wrong, make a list of what you should do and you shouldn't, thinking it all and then realize your tears never stop falling, your heart still beating hard, these guilt feeling can't leave while the reality of your failure still standing firmly and no one here to talk about it . Just because we've thought it all, doesn't mean our heart can take it all. It's the breaking point of blaming yourself when the only people who can ease your heart is not there. The people who matter isn't there and can't be there.
She is depressed and this is how suho takes part, he cares about her and persistent on his logical solution. Bo Nui badly needs someone to hold her, to support her and I want her to regain her life back. This gonna be better as a melodrama with humor.
aaaaaand I just heard about Yoochun case, oh god, I grew up listening to TVXQ and many of their music. I'm not his fan but this is shocking beyond belief.
TL:DR Lucky Romance doesn't provide enough backstory for Bo Nui, (so far) her depression and loneliness all these yearbut hint it vague by people stories and RIP my DB5K reuniion

I don't follow Kpop at all but i know yoochun through his dramas. I know it is wrong to assume - but in cases like this i tend to side with the girl
No matter how much people claim they are gold diggers, it cannot be easy by a long shot to take on a popular celebrity. The fans backlash, the media stripping your life apart, the battery of lawyers unleashed on you. I don't think many girl would willingly put themselves through this thinking 'i'll make some easy money'

It seems much more like a serial rapist than gold diggers. And which girl in her sane mind would falsely accuse, when he has crazy fangirls and a CEO who is the son of a famous mobster.

I feel bad for worrying abt imaginary reunion while there is an ongoing case of sexual assault. It's kinda weird bcs back then i was dbsk fan few years ago and he used to be my second bias. The whole case is confusing bcs so many rumours going around as well with contradictory statements. I actually think that Bo Nui's character is quite annoying despite of the fact that she is indeed a sweet girl. What bothers me with her character is that she firmly believes in superstition. Just because the famous psychic tells her that she is the cause of all misfortune in her family life, She should not believe in those. She has to be strong not to believe in those crap!!Because by believing in those, she did automatically give in to those powers and became so blinded by silly advice. Yes, at times we go through a hard time and wonder what went wrong with our lives but we have to find a strength in our selves instead of from an advice of a psychic. The story somehow makes the psychic's advice valid because the curse was lifted when they slept together. I hope that two men are going to eradicate her belief. In my life, my mom believes in those advice and she was taken advantaged by so called psychics and ripped off badly but she never stops believing in them and this affected our life badly. What I really found out from my mom's behavior is that the more you believe in those, the worse off you become in the end because you give up your own power to lead your own life on your own.

tbh I really want the stories to be more explored. My impression is that she became super into psychic’s advice/shaman when all medical treatment for Bora become useless and she can do no more to helps her, it's supports with the doctor statement. She doesn't want to accept the reality or let Bora go.
Then the shaman intrigued her, showing how valid their prediction about her past live and give her a hope, hope that no one can give at the moment regarding Bora. Hope that he has another way that keeps her do something for Bora by any means
I also wished the show will give the power back to believe in yourself and fact while wishing for happiness. it just half of the series and I think they'll do it by showing us that the premonition comes true is not the answer and it's not happening because of that.
Like showing how the tiger seems to work and then revealed it's not actually about the tiger, you just blindly believe because it's a convenient explanation

I also dislike Bo Nui, but it is more because she is a tragic character in rom-com. It irritates me how writers are making her so depressing for the sake of romantic hugs and funny jokes. It feels like she doesn't belong to this drama.
On your point of view I disagree, as an atheist ALL religious seems superstition to me. But even if it makes their life harder, steals their weekends to go to church or gives them false hope I still can't tell them to live or believe otherwise, it is their choise and something that helps them live so who am I to ask them change?
I agree that too much belief is bad for life but in this case Bo Nui needed this crazy advice. If she didn't got it she would have no hope+feel powerless and all alone, maybe by believing she could do something she got a reason to live?

I didn't watch LR, but just want to comment on superstitious beliefs. We would like to believe that we are in control of our destinies, but that is not the case for major events in our lives, particularly when it is a matter of life and death. When tragedy happens and things spiral out of control, it is in desperation that people turn to superstitious beliefs, or to seek reassurance from divine guidance in order to have the strength and the courage to live on in the state of confusion and chaos.

I'm not a Yoochun fan either, but I do like Junsu and Jaejoong, and I can't imagine how this will affect them. I hope JJ can continue as a duo, and that Junsu's concerts tomorrow and the day after won't be affected.

SM have issued a statement that Kangin's career has been put on hold so he can take time out to reflect on his actions. He is a repeat offender, and not surprisingly, wasn't convicted of DUI when it happened back in 09, and most likely won't be convicted again.
I agree that I shouldn't be quick to make conclusions, but Yoochun's past is very shady. Yoochun and Jaejoong have been violent towards sasaengs before, and Yoochun is besties with and has lived with Kim Hyunjoong at one point.

Last week’s overwhelming comments in OT about OHYA prompted me to watch it and I was instantly hooked. It’s easy to see why this drama is so popular, not only do we sympathize with Hye Young when she was agonizing over her love for Do Kyung, we also like her because she looked the epitome of the inferior self each of us tucked hidden in the corner of our mind. While growing up, who hasn’t felt dejected, belittled and hurt when we were pale in comparison with people around us who were prettier, smarter and more popular? It is more unfortunate for HY as she shared the same name as that gorgeously beautiful classmate and thereafter, her life became undesirably entangled.
Plain HY is sloppy, free-spirited, wilful, forthright talkative and “pabo”, very unlike dainty, pretty and smart OHY. So why did DK fall for her? As she receives so much love from her parents, she in turn has immense capacity to love, so she tend to impetuously fall head-over-heels in love. She loves too eagerly and is easily subject to the beck and call of her man to the extent that she literally set herself up for heartbreak. While DK’s tragic childhood experience relating to the death of his beloved dad made him very sorrowful, he has to put up a steely front to carry the burden of fending for his dysfunctional mum and siblings whom he regarded with pity. As such, he is very used to evoking love through sympathy for others. The pain and humiliation HY went through due to him were so unbearably pathetic in his eyes that his cautious defense went crumbling down to reveal his own vulnerability and his longing to be loved and consoled. HY’s unreserved spontaneous love is like a security blanket which brings warmth to his cold hardened heart and helps him reconnect with his own emotions. Therefore, he rather risked facing the sticky situation and “go as far as his heart takes” to reciprocate HY’s love than to regret it at the point of facing death.
What I also like about OHYA:
- HY’s parents who love their daughter in a non-indulging but nevertheless devoted and supportive manner, in the way they scrutinized DK and fussed over him initially, going all-out to help HY prepare the lunchbox for DK with no questions asked, and the way they sang and cried with her in the noraebang, etc.
- The recurring reference to what DK’s dad said to little DK “Once you acknowledge that things are transient, you don't waste your energy on useless things”. This ties in with the psychiatrist’s supposition that those flashes of HY in DK’s mind are reminisces of what are most important to him when he faces death. Indeed, life is short, let’s not sweat the small stuff!
- Silly Jin Sang, Hoon, DK’s minions and the frenchy and eccentric Isa-dora
- The superb acting by Seo hyun-jin, she completely shook off the uptightness in Feast Of The Gods and Goddess Of Fire

Beautiful Gong Shim has been quite flat this week. Though Dan Tae discovered that he is Joon Pyo, it lacked excitement as we already knew it. Just want to mention the scene with Dan Tae crying over the warm dinner prepared by Gong Shim after he saw the messages she conveyed through those cute sketches of herself. Seeing two sorrowful men (Eric Mun & Namgoong Min) crying their hearts out in a week is more than enough for my weak heart. Maybe I am the only one who can't watch OHY anymore? I really can't keep overlooking how badly normal OHY treats the pretty one.Is she really that bad? The pretty one,I mean ~~ Yes she does tend to say things which supposedly hurts OHY but why does it feel like she takes it too much to heart? Like once the pretty one was talking about how plain OHY's mom used to bring food for her blah blah but it also didn't go down well with plain OHY.It's like there are lot of scenes when just seeing pretty OHY makes plain OHY upset..she's always jealous of her for no specific reason.Even the fact that people praise her makes her down? I don't get why she can't accept the fact that someone her age can be successful and people can take her as a role model. It's okay right? Doesn't it make her look shallow and all? If she was happy in her own skin she would not be bothered by people like pretty OHY right? It's like she can't even accept to breathe in the same air as pretty OHY does :S and at times because of this reason I was hesitating to take side with her, her logic to have all those conflicts with pretty OHY are somewhat all result of her inferior complex and that's why when she keeps saying ' I hate OHY!'..I feel like I'm taking the wrong sides.Hell in another dramaland she could be a villain for all that matters :S...IMO.
Also Do Kyung, tsk this guy. This guy wrongfully makes one man suffer, and then he had the audacity to go confront this man and beating him up,just cause he said ' I hate the way you eat?' :S Also without even explaining himself he thinks it's okay to injure him again after all that he did to him once.I don't see one bit of remorse in his face and I don't know how it's okay. All I can see is how the drama went wrong in places, and the little lighthearted romance or kisses can't make it up for me :S. It's ethically wrong I think..yeah.Sorry for the rant over.

Well, I guess both Our Hae Young and Other Hae Young are just plain human. They are just two different person with different personality. Both of them just want to be loved for who they are. But they deal with it differently, Other Hae Young put up a loveable front with all the assets she has but all Our Hae Young had was bullies, and no one that defends her except her family. Their situation was kind of the opposite which is what makes this drama so real, they reflect to real life situation. Nobody is taking any wrong sides. Maybe you just have different perspective than the mainstream OHY fans (like me) But everyone needs to be loved. So It's ok if you think Our Hae Young is a villain. She has to be after all those years being the victim.
For Do Kyung, I think you should watch the recent episodes to judge again. Yeah, nobody is perfect, not Our Hae Young or Pretty Oh Hae Young or Tae Jin, not a single soul in this drama :>

Thanks starnger for the correction.
Hi limbo, I do see your point here. After we got to see things from the perspective of pretty Hae-young, I sort of empathize with her insecurity, why she actually feels that she will always be defeated by kids raised by loving parents. The way she always smile though she feels like crying inside is quite pathetic. Both of them have their shortcomings, plain HY is wilful and kind of pampered by her parents, so like what you described, she is unreasonable at times and is overly resentful and jealous of pretty HY. But we can forgive her pettiness as she did suffer quite a lot because of pretty HY. Also, Seo hyun-jin's acting made HY very likable, her bubbly and talkative behaviour makes it easier for viewers to like her than the pretentious and uptight pretty HY.
Yes, Eric Mun's face can be very mean, the way he grinned spitefully at TJ in the lift was quite evil. There is no doubt, DK is quite cruel, he admitted it himself that in order not to get hurt, he always gave the bare minimal, ensuring that he is less kind than the kindness of others and more hostile than the hostility of others. So in this regard, you are right, he is 100% nappeun seki, However, like what starnger said, they are just plain human with flaws, so let's let it slide, and just sit back to enjoy the show. :)

Haha pebble I'm just sharing my pov and yeah as you said OHY is pampered a lot by her parents ..Also in her office she vigorously talks about how her life was miserable in school...because of pretty OHY..all those time she did not sound like a victim rather I got the feeling that she's very much vocal about what she feels. So I don't quite see her as a victim here...life is hard with everyone and same goes for the pretty OHY.
@Sancheezy exactly...As no one is seemingly not 'perfect' in this drama or can get away with wrong behaviors..... then why give special treatment to the leads? Apparently cause they are the leads I guess, lol.

Thank you for making point, I decieded to watch this drama because of all happy comments, but truth is in this type of dramas I always end up cheering for second leads, who are pretty, look confident and are succesful, while there is main heroine who has none of this and plus has great friends, family and gets all the love from male lead. The first one worked harder and from my point of view deserved more than characters treating her like a bad guy.
Maybe It's just because I'm recognise myself more in those second leads but thanks for saying that show would give me reasons to dislike main lead

hi Nerdy, though we want to believe that the winner takes it all, life does not work in this way. Yes, if one puts in more effort, the likelihood of being successful is there but still not guaranteed, and happiness is not given to people who most deserved it, nor can it be earned through effort, there is simply no straightforward equation when it comes to happiness. Since we have to sweat it out in real life, we watch drama as a form of temporary respite from reality. It has to have the feel good factor, so someone has to be the fall guy, and the main lead has to look good eventually in order to make mainstream viewers happy, isn't it?

Hi Pebble, yes, maybe I'm being too serious/critical about these type of things in dramas...
P.S can I just say how much I admire people who answer long posts with bad grammar/tons of mistakes and not correct them? <3

Yeah, seems that a lot of these dramas just go flat about halfway through. I often get the feeling that they have enough material for about 4 episodes less than they actually air.

Yes, that's right. most dramas usually contain non eventful fillers in the mid second half until the climax slowly builds up again towards the end. This reminds me of the worst drama I've seen with boring characters and a tedious and draggy middle section - Personal Preference, things only start to move in the last 2 eps. So it is important to have interesting supporting characters with their own side stories, as in the case in OHYA, comical Isa-dora, Jin Sang, Hoon and his little girlfriend provided great entertainment when our main leads were quarrelling and not in talking terms. As Beautiful Gong centers mainly around the threesome, it can feel a bit run out of steam when the main story is progressing very slowly.

More movies I've been watching between OHYA installments:
A couple of months ago while watching CITY HALL, I added LIKE THE MOON ESCAPING FROM THE CLOUDS [aka BLADES OF BLOOD] to my watch list to get a gander at Cha Seung-Won in sageuk after seeing him for the first time in MY SON -- which had knocked my socks off. Before I got around to it, though, I ended up watching HWAJUNG/SPLENDID POLITICS, and enjoyed that drama to the hilt.
I finally got around to watching LIKE THE MOON last night. CSW delivers the goods as badass rebel leader Lee Mong-Hak during the First Imjin War (1592). His idealism runs amok and leads to double-crossing of fellow members of the Great Alliance. Baek Sung-Hyun plays aristocratic bastard son Han Kyeon-Ja, who has his eye on gisaeng Baek-Ji (Han Ji-Hye). Hwang Jung-Min is mighty impressive as blind swordsman Hwang Jeong-Hak, who shows Kyeon-Ja the ropes. The overall vibe reminded me of THE KING AND THE CLOWN by the same director, particularly at the end, but also because of its indictment of the court's and nobility's cowardice and infighting that betrayed the nation and its people.
Comments on DB's movie announcements for LIKE THE MOON mentioned Zatoichi, so I watched the 2003 Japanese film THE BLIND SWORDSMAN: ZATOICHI early this morning. Loved the swordfighting in this classic tale of baddies running a town in the boondocks and shaking everyone down. Two geisha are out to avenge their murdered family and servants. Ultimately, itinerant masseur Zatoichi evens the score, and good triumphs over evil after much arterial blood is graphically sprayed.
At about the 1:40:00 mark (i.e., with about 15 min. left) Aunt Oume's new house is shown being constructed using traditional timber framing techniques, including a guy using a commander/beetle to drive home the trunnels and tenons, and carpenters using pull saws. Cool! The denoument features the town festival, complete with taiko drumming and a surreal tap dance routine with three guys (the dancing farmers in the field, who are collectively called The Stripes). Boy, can they dance up a storm. Plus a huge troupe of townspeople and the geisha sisters (both as adults and kids) -- all stomping in their geta. It was like watching Japanese Riverdance meets the Rockettes. Absolutely wild, rhythmic, and intense. I half expected to see Ann Miller, Fred Astaire, and Ginger Rogers join them on stage. It was as if these 19th Century Japanese hicks were channeling Bill Bojangles Robinson. Totally and joyously anachronistic. Will have to check out later installments of Zatoichi.

Happy Friday Beanies!
I'm really excited up about the dramas coming up! how to fit so many drama-watching hours in a week? And still sleep?
Police Unit 38: Glib and charming Seo In Gook as a bad-boy-turned-good, butting heads with straightlaced Ma Dong Seok in a comedy drama. ? plus I love watching a smarter person outwit people trying to smart evading the law. Karma in a hot package.
Beautiful Mind: Jang. Hyuk. Oppa. 'Nuff said.
Doctors: Kick ass Park Shin Hye with hot surgeon mentor nursing a secret crush on her for helping him fix his emotional scars. I have a big soft spot for cute vulnerable men who need fixing.
Then I still have Beautiful Gong Shim which I love.
And I'm also watching I Remember You...
How Beanies? Tell me your secrets... I'm sure some of you have a Time Turner or some secret portal for extra hours in a day!

Just let drama take over your life (lol)
Of course you can do if you
stop having your social life
stop doing household chores
stop studying for your exam
and just stop...
and I am amazed at myself (I still go to work and gym, and watch most of currently airing dramas) lol

Haha @fan yeah you are right I should just let the dramas take over my life... Sadly my kid won't let me watch in peace!
When I see the posts on Spill the Beans I feel like I'm so abnormal and I missed out because I've never done anything really nuts for drama watching before. Maybe stayed up till 6 am last time and occasionally I'm sleep deprived like now (watched till 230 am, kid woke me up at 630 am ?)...
and I can't bear to drag myself to the gym, regardless of how free I am! Haha. Sleep and drama watching way higher priority for me ?
Kudos to juggling your work and gym schedule and drama watching! I have much to learn from Beanies like you...

I really liked it too. I am at this stage in life where I am deciding wheater to follow my dreams or to be rational and do something that stable and will mean financial security. This movie really made me think about how life is uncertain and that I am the protagonist of my own life. It also made think about my friend circle which is drifting apart because everyone has taken different roads. We still love and care about each other and we want each other to follow their dreams even if it takes them away.

A while back, one of the Beanies pointed out the director's cut... and I can attest that it is a whole lot better than the one with scenes chopped out. Suddenly I could understand a major plot development that had gone right over my head. It wasn't bad subtitles -- the scene was MIA. See AsianWiki for details.
The coming of age tale of sisterhood is heartwarming and bittersweet. It reminds me of my high school and college buddies and how our lives have turned out in ways we could never have foreseen.
I loved the OST and background music in SUNNY. Magma forever! I especially loved the exquisite timing of "Touch By Touch" during the riot.
From what I've read, owing to the political situation and government censorship of the airwaves in Korea, listening rooms with live disc jockeys playing requests [dabang] were basically home-grown communal live jukeboxes. It reminded me of college radio stations in the US that aired non-commercial programming back in the day. Some still do.
Before ordinary folks got access to the WWW and technology enabling them to host their own websites, it took a lot of effort to publicize (and for listeners to track down) music from local bands unsigned by record companies. You'd have to read print publications such as "New Musical Express" or "SOUNDS" (Germany) for the European music scene, or The Aquarian weekly or The Village Voice for the NYC area.
I'd never heard "Touch By Touch" by the Austrian band Joy, or "Reality" by Richard Sanderson, until seeing SUNNY... But thanks to YouTube, I can do so now. I didn't have access to MTV or cable TV back in the day. It just blows my mind to see some of the vintage footage of Jim Croce on the BBC, for instance.

*cough* myasiantv just steals subs from other sites.
If it's on myasiantv, it was subbed by someone else. It may look like they sub the ones you can't find on popular subbing sites like DF or Viki, but truth is, they also steal from smaller subbers like darksmurfsub or fansites that sub a drama for their idol.
myasiantv doesn't do any subbing at all. They just profit from the work of other subbers.
I can't stop people from watching through myasiantv, but I wish people would know this fact, at least. :(

Have already checked some lists from google....but still in dark cause japanese genre is new for me.So far I've only watched playful kiss from 1996...and the girl is shamelessly hilarious.
Btw I've heard japanese dramas are more realistic and more rich with contents than kdramas...is that argument valid?

Japanese drama recs:
-The Memorandum of Kyoko Okitegami (cutest private detective)
- Itazura na Kiss Love in Tokyo (since you liked the 1996 version)
- 1 Litre of tears (spoiler You will cry)
- Kazoku Game (weirdest family drama, mindf*ck, part slice-of-life part psychological thriller, never seen anything else like it)
- Mare (don't let yourself be intimidated by the # of eps, my all time fav)
-Orange Days (lovely campus drama, also sign language!!)
- Orthros no Inu (makes you think about power and society)
Japanese movie:
-Orange (as mentioned above)
-Kimi ni todoke (cute, sweet, fluffy..love it)
Japanese dramas do offer more slice-of-life type of dramas that tend to be more realistic since it depicts the stories of ordinary people (no chaebol or CEO or Idol) and they often made on a lower budget so it's not as "shiny" as kdramas. And they do have a great variety of genres...

Another J drama recs beside @Am which is a wonderful list
-Thriller
MOZU, Karamazov no kyoday
-Fun and funny
Suten Na Taxi, Manhattan Love Story, Hana Kimi, Nodame Cantabile
-Life stories
Soredemo ikite yoku
Wakamonotachi
Hanzawa Naoki
Jdrama is shorter like 12 ep and IMO used shorter range and more focused on the problem. I think it averagely has richer contain, but they lack of rom com, have many slice of life and procedural show and like @Am not as shyni as Kdrama.
Their comedy is the tricky one, I find it really funny but some of my friends need adjusment.

- Gomen Ne Seishun (more coming-of-age than romcom, but it's really sweet and funny)
- Date
- Hanzawa Naoki (not a romcom, but this is amazing and will have you on the edge of your seat within one episode)
Also, this is a movie and a straight-up comedy with very little romance - Kamikaze Girls. (seriously, watch it. It's about the unlikely friendship between two very different girls, and it's amazing).

Hello all:
Am loving the weekend dramas and looking forward to some of the upcoming weekday dramas. Awaiting Squad 38 and bring it on, ghost. Not sure I'll watch Doctors or A Beautiful Mind, though.
Mirror of the Witch: Love the linear feel of the story and how the writer just goes to whole new levels. I feel as if I'm in good hands. The writer has really explored so many possibilities which makes it much more original than the typical stories with a zillion subplots which ends up giving all the stories kneejerk plotlines.
Flower in Prison: Liking this as well. I try not to pick on actors and their skills but in this case I find myself wishing another actress had played our heroine.
J-dramas
Miracle Man Kiseki no Hito -- I am so loving this. It has everything I like. A found family of oddballs and prigs, an imperfect person out to prove himself, a courtship, a disabled child, triumph, love. Really recommend this one.
My Dangerous Wife Boku no Yabai Tsuma -- wow! This one was fun, with a lot of twists and turns. The finale wasn't as great as the preceding episodes, though, what with one just-in-time flaky easy plot incident after another. And the usual Japanese subtext of sneering at older overweight lovelorn women desperate for love ...well, it was one of those easy kneejerk disdain thing that made me know where the story and the guilt of the drama would end up. So, quite good but that ending! Recommend this one as well.
Hi Ho Ko -- This drama is the truest meaning of unsettling.
Sekai Ichi Muzukashii Koi -- this is okay. It isn't charming or manic and kinda plods along but eh...it's a rom-com so I'll endure.
Recommended Japanese Movies: Orange and Forget Me Not (2015)
Happy Weekend, all.

I'm cheering right along with you!
If you want kmovies, then I'm leaving a few recs (they don't star Byun Yo-han or Lee Je-hoon but I promise, they're really good)
- Sunny (2011, starring Shim Eun-kyung, Kang Sora, Yoo Ho-jung) - coming-of-age comedy
- War of the Arrows (2011, starring Park Hae-il, Moon Chae-won, Kim Mu-yeol) - historical action-adventure - seriously this is so good, I wish I had seen it on the big screen
- The Man From Nowhere (2010, starring Won Bin, Kim Sae-ron, Kim Sung-oh) - action/thriller
- A Werewolf Boy (2012, starring Song Joong-ki, Park Bo-young) - romance/melodrama
- The Chaser (2008, starring Kim Yun-seok, Ha Jung-woo) - thriller

Yes! WAR OF THE ARROWS is terrific. I watched it on Netflix. I especially liked how the invaders all speak Manchurian. That kind of attention to detail gets me every time, not to mention the technical details of Joseon compound bows and the arrow carriers for extending the range of shorter shafts while still packing a punch. The Manchurian arrowheads at half a pound required crossbows, and splintered trees...
ROARING CURRENTS is also excellent. It dovetails nicely with HEAVEN'S SOLDIERS.

As I write, there have been 4 girls who have come forward to report. Although yes the reports are still being investigated, innocent until proven guilty and all that, damn I think where there's smoke, there's fire.
Regardless of whether he actually did it, his career is pretty much down the drain.
Look at the example of Park Si Hoo and the furore on any and every thread on DB mentioning his name. Frankly I'm surprised I haven't seen more comments here on DB condemning Yoochun since the story broke.

Yoochun's case appears to be more about sex work, which is undeniably a messy topic but the consent issues are supposedly about failure to pay for services. I think people jsut don't know about the case yet, it seems to be surprisingly lowkey for westerners (I only just found out).
PSH's case, on the other hand, was everywhere and the details indicated straight up assault so I think it has more weight in people's minds. There was even an article on DB I think, but no article about Yoochun's case yet so we don't really have a place to discuss and freakout (besides here lol).

There's been coverage about Yoochun and the allegations at Soompi. I also saw an article about it at the Koala's Playground blog.
When the news first broke, I was quite shocked and sad because I really liked his acting work in Girl Who Sees Smells and was looking forward to seeing him again once his army duty was finished.
Now, with 4 girls coming forward, I can't ignore what seems to me to be a pattern of violence towards women.
He was already under fire in Korea due to the fact he was placed at a "desk job" for his military service because of his asthma ( while he continues to smoke cigarettes) which some felt was undeserved special treatment due to his celebrity status. With these other allegations, his career has been badly damaged. I think just the fact that he was caught having sex with a prostitute and then not paying her was enough to send his career into a nosedive.
I do feel sorry for his fans- I'm sure it's devastating news for them and they don't want to believe that a person that they admire could be a monster.

Sorry, gotta make a small correction on your comment. Only the first case, where the victim subsequently withdrew her statement, involved a sex worker. The others were all laywomen who met him for drinks either in a bar or in his home.

When the first case came out, I was inclined to think he might be innocent. After all, why was it reported by the boyfriend, and why did she keep the evidence yet did not go to get examined right after it?
When the second, third and fourth cases came out, I think of Bill Cosby. The number of victims just keep surfacing.
It takes a lot of courage for any sexual abuse or rape victims to step out, let alone when the perpetrator is famous or rich. By working or appearing in those places (not exactly sure what type of bars they are), the defence lawyers would smear their reputation and claim they were lying.
With other cases, the victims would feel that they are not alone.
I hope that the alleged rapist and the victims would get fair trials. Hope no intimidation takes place.

FOUR? FOUR?!?!
Damn, I didn't know what to make of it when the first one came out because I was so blindsided and now it's FOUR?!
I mean, I really liked DBSK back when they were 5 and this feels like such a betrayal, though of course the concern should be directed towards the poor victims and not me.
I say this with full sympathy and support for the victims but I wonder how his mother feels. (And Kim SoHyun who was one of his biggest fan...) Urgh. Bad joo joo all round because he decided to be a piece of shit.

to be fair, the story has just broken and there have been a lot of contradictory reports about the first victim withdrawing charges etc, plus a lot of db simply doesn't follow k-ent news outside the site if we're just here for dramas.
But as things stand (and I hear there are FOUR victims now), I can't bear to watch Yoochun in anything anymore and I think in the coming weeks, db is pretty much going to fall on that side of things too. No one here has anything nice to say about Park Shi-hoo or Kim Hyun-joong, Yoochun will be no different.

I accidently saw some comments and I'm surprised how some people are already blaming the victims without even anything being clarified yet. Having the innocnet until proven guilty stance is understandable but thinking that if it happened the entire fault was the girls' to be drunk or going into someone else's house is absolutely disgusting.
What has this world come to. In the florida gator attack people are blaming and badmouthing the parents who deserve the most compassion right now.Sad state if affairs. I too am not infallible and I might be wrong in my judgement too but i'm sad that the oppressed or victims are treated this way.

I absolutely hate victim blaming! It is horrible, destructive and completely insensitive. I noticed that people just have this tendency to try to explain the "whys" of a tragedy simply to reinforce their belief that "that would never happen to me".
They try to find faults in the victim to reassure themselves that they will never be in there place because they "don't do this" or "don't do that". They just can't cope with the idea that they could be victims too. Horrible things can happen to anyone. ANYONE.
By doing that, they forget that someone else was involved. Someone who made the CONSCIOUS CHOICE of harming another human being. Makes me so mad.

Not to say that I agree, but part of the issue ppl have with the Florida gator story is the hipocrisy shown to the mother of the child attacked by the gorilla a few weeks back. So in that story, people spewed all kinds of vile stuff about the mother, her past and the child's father. The majority of it was racially motivated. So , sadly, when this case happened, Twitter took it upon themselves to take the parents to task in the same manner. Again, not to say I agree, but that's how it went down.

Dispatch posted pics of Yoochun entering the night club that night. His career is finished. Image is everything in Korea. As a TV5Q fan, I feel betrayed. I'll never be able to enjoy their albums and concert videos again.
C-jes entertainment, his agency, allegedly sent mobsters after the first victim that reported the assault to hush matters. It's a big agency and manages Hwang Jung Eum, Gummy, Jaejoong, Junsu etc. and the CEO has mafia connections too. I'm waiting to see if this agency goes under fire, and whether these stars have to look elsewhere.

Dispatch pic is not from the night of the alleged assault, they said so in their disclaimer. Unless you're talking about different pic. The mobster is a speculation on Dispatch's side, the hush money is a speculation from other people that has nothing to do with the case.

I am not a psychiatrist or psychologist. Using what I have learnt from Signal about M.O., FBI's website about criminal profiling, drawing pyschology and what I have read from all the other threads, there are some things that could explain his alleged behaviour.
1. Something terrible must have happened in a bathroom previously. He had sketches of the toilet bowl and naked man with a devil looking face with a sad face hidden there. It could have happened to him or a loved one. Did he see something he should not have? Or did something happen to him?
2. There was reportedly a period where he was very angry and became a recluse. Something must have happened then. It was mentioned that it took place after his father's death.
2. He might have gotten into a habit of having sex in the bathroom with drunken girls. Some might be willing, but others might not. He coerced them into submission, possibly to prove he had power over them, and that he could wipe his memory of that incident away by doing so.
3. Some had argued that there were no CCTVs in the attached bathrooms in those bars. This might be true for 3 cases so far, but one allegedly took place in his house. Wouldn't the bed be more comfortable?

it's really sad, because he was growing on me. his acting had improved exponentially since sungkyunkwan scandal, and he had such a nice, clean-cut image. i was interested in him as an actor to the point that if you told me he was in talks for a drama, i'd be all ears. (loved him in the girl who could see smells)
he and kim hyun-joong really make lee byung-hun's scandal(s) look like child's play, though lee byung-hun just got lucky by getting away with as much as he did in the case with the canadian gymnast.

So I FINALLY finished The Journey of Flower this week!!! It took me MONTHS but I did it! I really enjoyed it, albeit some parts were draggy but Shu Fu and Little Bone moments were amazing near the end..I couldn't believe all that happened to Tang Bao, Sha Jie Jie and Dong Fang (he had it coming!) but man, was it good!
So I've been on a Wallce Huo kick lately after this show and am now watching The Imperial Doctoress….Ahhh Wallace, why do you have to be so darn gorgeous..I can't get enough of him….I'm half way through and enjoying it as well…
Anyone have any recommendations for more Wallace dramas? I've seen Love Me If You Dare…but I'm thinking his older ones are probably very good too, but don't know where to start…Also any recommendations for more WuXia dramas too please!!

Huo Jin Yan's drama, beside what you already watch
- The vigilante in mask (iljimae, the good version IMO), also has Liu Shi Shi
- Swordsman (he become swordsman that goofy and talented)
- Battle of Changsha , tells a story about an ordinary family in Changsha, Hunan Province, China, coping with the Anti-Japanese war between 1938 and 1945, reflecting Chinese people’s lives during that ill-fated period , ps : he is great here
- Perfect Couple (Imagine Wallace Huo in Rom-com wuxia drama, yeah that's it)
- The Glamorous Imperial Concubine (I don't really recommend this one)
- Chinese Paladin 3 (this with Hu Ge so you may like it for fun)
- At the Dolphin Bay (2003) , lovely romance story as I remember
aand anticipation for Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace (a.k.a. The Legend of Ruyi) (2017)
said to be the 2nd Legend of Zhen Huan and it's about Emperor Qianlong ; during his long reign the Qing Empire reached its most splendid and prosperous era.
He is Yongzhen/4th prince in BBJX son
for JoF, I am still sad for Sha Jie Jie, I wished there's another drama when Sha Jie jia, dongfang and Bai Zi hua can be a group of traveler, it looked fun,
and they cut all the kiss scene with Bai Zi Hua but leave the one with Dong Fang bu bai....hmmm
hope this helps

the vampire kiss ,
the fans are in rage when they cut it back then.

which news? Yoochun?
just before my trip there was that matter with Johnny Depp &Amber Heard. I am still confused and unsure... I don´t want to believe that woman. and even if he is a substance user as well, I feel like I cannot throw this guy away. It has been such a long time ... I hope he proves innocent. but even if he did throw the phone, I can sort of understand, I have had my own anger black-outs & kicked and thrown things. I know what can happen- against your own will. it is no excuse, but a person like me cannot condemn someone so identical...
sexual assault is a completely different matter however. that makes men leeches who only deserve to be crushed. yet, letś wait, I dont quite trust the news here either. are there any sources that are reliable in this modern day at all?

redfox - I had no great liking for Amber Heard either, but honestly, victims don't have to be likable or nice or talented to be victims.
What Johnny Depp did doesn't sound like some Naomi Campbell-style phone-throwing rage. And after reading io Tillett Wright's account of what he did to Amber, it becomes even more apparent this wasn't some random one-off or a lone argument that got violent. If he did these things in the grip of an alcoholic blackout, he needs to get help, but he should also own up to what he did and not drag her through the mud in the media.

I bet you didnt even notice me gone for a while. I was in Graz, Austria, on a conference (ecsite 2016 for science establishments & museums). So much flying, huh! Went to theater two days ago and searched my chair for a seat belt...
got so annoyed in Graz when our bunch just wanted to procrastinate in a windy street cafe for 4 hours and not explore the town at all. I always got up early to see more...
hah, I had the chance to watch Arirang TV at the hotel in the evenings! They show cool stuff and stories with great content & variety. About science, technology, environment, society, street culture, folklore, events... got me thinking how there are so many fields & places dramas don´t explore at all. With so many people growing tired of the same old same old, why can´t writers watch the news more... they could get ideas. Like retro-folklore-flea market kept by college kids, walkways, that turn into festival grounds every night, robotics laboratories & all kinds of scientific research... maybe it would take too much background research. It brings me to the point: do we alwasy see the same locations & professions in dramas because they come are "packaged deals" with an already existing background matrix ready-to-use? What can be done to widen the horizon of the writers? How can they get time to explore the world?
anyway, been watching Gong Shim - who is one spunky, outspoken and independent girl! Just awesome! Kind of reminds me of She Was Pretty hye-Jin, in finding herself and trying to decide what she wants from life.
a good point this drama makes is that your real family doesnt always act like a family is supposed to. don´t have to tell me about it... it is so sad that our whole threesome has the same issue - they are not appreciated as people, but as tools for someone elses´ fame, fortune, success and benchmark of social acceptance. Ugh that hits me in the gut, really. I am especially moved by the bromance, the real family connection inside the found one.
a bit confused about Mirror of the witch. it has become a bit loosely tied.
did you know there is a manga now on Okitegami Kyoko no Bibouroku? It is not as cute as the jdrama though.
well, gotta get back on the resume of my time as a mentor. talk to you later.

I can't believe it is already Friday!
The last 2 episodes of Lucky Romance made me fall for Ryu Junyeol even more...how could that even be possible at this point? Where can I find myself a Je Suho?
Finished Vampire Detective on an uneventful note. Ahhh what could have been. I'll miss Lee Joon and the rest of the cast though. They were really great together and it is even sadder that the show did not take advantage of that.
Plan to finish the last 3 episodes of Jackpot tomorrow. At this point I am dragging myself to the end for two reasons only: Yeo Jingoo and the possibility of watching In Juhwa suffer a painful (scratch that excruciating) death. Fire should be involve for good measure...
Finished Memory! That was such a charming watch. I really enjoyed the feel and tone of the drama. Loved Lee Junho's character and the actors (Lee Sungmin particularly) were just wonderful.
Started watching Tree with Deep Roots. How awesome is King Sejeong? I actually love him. Song Joongki was amazing in establishing the character. I sympathized with him immediately and I am rooting for him no matter what. I have yet to warm up to Dulbok (the lead). I can't connect to his anger issues.
Still watching Amachan. Up to episode 116 so only 40 episodes to go. I hate that Futo-something-sushi-roll-name producer. Still love Stove-san even if he's a little pathetic. Wish we could see him more often.
Looking forward to POLICE UNIT 38 (it's finally here! Seo Inguk Ma Dongseok!!) Doctors (It looks pretty but I am iffy about the story...) and Wanted (Looks promising if we can trust the teasers).

As for emotion, I personally did not cry. I've been told that I have a cold heart when it comes to movies and dramas. It really has to be a whole new level of heartbreaking for me to cry so I am not the best person to ask lol But I thought they didn't try to force the emotional tragic card and the end is bittersweet but leaning more toward the sweet imo.
I would recommend you gave it another try (especially if you really liked it) because it was a really great drama and I enjoyed it from start to finish.

It's been a crazy week for me. My apartment complex is doing remodeling and I had to basically pack up everything and condense it all into my bedroom. Currently my poor cat is home in the bedroom and people are ripping apart my living room floor. I'm so furious these upgrades are being forced on us all, my lease actually ends next month and I'm in the middle of buying a house. Well, I'm already packed to move.
So! I am behind on my watching this week. I did catch OHY and Lucky Romance, both great this week. I'm looking forward to the weekend for Gong Shim, Five Kids, and Mirror of the Witch. Maybe I'll catch up on Monster too.

That sounds terrible…as they say, when it rains, it pours! I remember when I was in my old apartment, I had one month left on the lease and we had a beg bug outbreak in the whole building, everyone had to immediately pack everything so they could do their extermination, meanwhile I had major boards exams to study for and moving - all the while hoping I wasn't taking any bugs with me to the new place!!!

Achievement unlocked this week - Audio manipulation and uploading and hosting and embedding in webpage! Yaaay!!
It took me a ridiculously long time but man, the things I learnt along the way. Although, if anyone knows of a good audio hosting site, please let me know.
This week drained me out, sort of, so much so that I had an inception sort of dream earlier. It was three dreams in one dream =_=lll
I don't really feel much for the dramas this week, except that HaeYoung's giddy exuberance made me laugh and giggle involuntarily and I like that Noodles is upping the ante with all the truth bombs being dropped.
Just another typical week then. Have a good weekend, beanies!

Happy Friday! I am excited about new batch of dramas- after disappointing Jackpot and Vampire Detective.
and My apologies in advance- for extra posts this time which might cause you inconvenience (or stress doing mental proofreading).
It was busy week this week. There were three production press conferences - Police unit 38(Seo In-gook), Beautiful Mind(Jang Hyuk), and Doctors (Park Sin-hye). Which one are you most excited about? Here are some coverage of the press conference.
OCN's 'Con Police unit 38/tax squad 38' is to be aired today 17th.[Xsports News, Sports Seoul, The fact, OSEN]
Production team is hoping the show surpasses the ratings of 'Bad guys'(4.128%) which was the highest (OCN shows). Same writer(Han Jung-hoon) and filming director(Han Dong-hwa) are working on this drama. The title of drama is another word for 'Tax collection team Unit 38' which came from K-Constitution CHAPTER 38 which defines the duty of paying tax.
Ma Dong-suk who was in 'Bad Guys' plays the tax agent Paek Sung-il. "One of the biggest reason that I took this project is Director and writer. I have huge trust on them personally'." About his character name 'Paek Sung-il', "This is name with mixed meaning of 'one/Il of people/BaekSung' and 'Doing work/Il of people/Baeksung'. He is an average family man who is petty/timid-hearted and feel wrong about stifling reality, whom we can easily find around us. I think this role is good challenge to me and it could be character of my life.. people in the show are characters we can see around us, but there are many plot twists and fun story. Seo In-gook and Soo-young act so immersed in their roles that you can't see their real selves." He has various nicknames including 'MaVeuly'(Ma + pretty/cute/lovely. LOL for tough guy), "I am thankful people see me favorably in my projects which I have worked hard and give me nicknames. I don't think there is one which really fits me, but personally I like 'Ma Bbeun yi' which Kim Hae-soo(Signal) sunbae-name gave me.
Seo In-gook plays professional swindler Yong Jung-do who is smart and natural con-man. He said he fell for the character and theme. "Meeting of conman and civil servant is not normal, but story is something anyone can related to. People may think that 'I hope something opens up where is badly clogged up' and Yoon Jung-do will do the job to feel refreshed (Cidar(seven up) in Korean expression. For example they call 'Lawyer Jo Deul-Ho' Cidar drama/feel-good drama). Since he is a con-man, his method is not upright of course." "In this drama, not just characters, drama plot is attractive. It is drama which has very special but common story."
As for working with GG members, Seo worked with Yoon-ah in his debut drama 'Love rain', and with Yoo-ri in the movie 'No breathing' before. "In this project, In Jung-do's past, Soo-young ssi.. (Soo-young stopped for spoiler)

I don't know how the relationship will progress, but I have high expectation on chemistry I can show with her in this project. First of all, Soo-young ssi is beautiful."
Soo-young commented about her reason for joining. "I had thirst for acting after 'Spring days'. Ever since I debuted in acting, I've played characters who are bright but have pain inside. I wanted to play a practical and logical character. Most of all, I wanted to do a drama my father would like. (Because of genre) I felt men will enjoy this drama. Civil servant Chun Sung-hee who is morally-outstanding will play the role compromising between reality and fiction. About her GG group members, she said "They cheer me on like always, and said they'd visit the set." The outfit she wore(me think:too short) is what members picked for her. "It has been so long since I stood before the public, so I was very nervous and couldn't decide what to wear. We had vote in GG group chat room and decided on this outfit after I changed 8 times. She expects love-line with Seo. "Of course I have expectation on love-line. How can I not have one since I am actress? So far I do not know if we have one. I am just satisfied with the chemistry bickering with Paek Sung-il." Even though she is same civil servant on tax unit, the character is a person who is ethically-driven and morally-outstanding opposing to collect the tax using scam. "In real life, I am type who live according to the flow even though it feels unfair."
The main watching point is the bromance between Ma Dong-suk and Seo In-gook. Tax agent Paek Sung-il and con-man Yang Jung-do who don't seem a possible match working together to get rich tax evaders to pay their dues will provide some sort of satisfaction. Ma said "I think I have perfect chemistry with Su In-gook ssi like we have worked for many projects together. Just looking at his eyes, he takes good care of me. Even though he is younger brother/Dongseang, he feels like Hyung or Noona. He has good sense so he handles any situation smartly and he is considerate of others. I am shooting comfortably." Seo also said "This is first time we work together. We've spent lots of time together preparing with directors, actors and staffs. In that process, I have learned a lot- approach to the character that I have never thought of before, the attitude toward the scene, how to think etc. I started to search to have more ideas and doing that, we became close naturally and acting chemistry got better. He used the term 'Chaldduk Goonghap'(perfect chemistry), and that is exactly right."

PD Han explains the purpose of the show. "We decided to do this project because we thought conning as plot was different. I thought it'd be a feel-good drama. It was not all easy because it has Tax in the story, still it is very fun and more attractive." The plot getting rich tax evaders to pay their fair share by conning might become stumbling block for the drama's clean wrap-up. Do ends justify the means? Han said "Since all parts are just story, I think it is ok not to think too sensitive." This is first OCN's Friday-Saturday drama. "About airing time, frankly I just know how to make it well, and I don't know about that part. Fri-Sat drama is another attractive challenge."

Is it seriously an attractive challenge? Isn't OCN a sister channel of TVN and wouldn't the Fri-Sat schedule affect both the dramas aired on the channels? Or do they have different time slots?

Happy Friday, everyone~!
Idk whether to feel blessed or doomed. Starting today, Korean dramaverse owns my life and soul. I have to fit RL in between of:
- OHYA & Doctors [Mon-Tue]
- Wanted [Wed-Thurs]
- MoTW, FiP & Police Unit 38 [Fri-Sat]
- FiP [Sun]
Gotta ditch social life from today and welcome the sleepless nights and Panda Eyes... *contented sighs*
And happy bday to @ObsessedMuch~! I watched PU38 live just now with you in my mind, dear. SIG is truly a smooth operator there.. the sexy one. With or without jailbird uniform. ^^
PU38 casts are superb! Lots of senior and talented actors there. I enjoy watching it so far.

Press Conference for 'Doctors'- Can Kim rae-won and Park Sin-hye's chemistry appeal to the viewers' heart? [OSEN, Xsports News]
This show has the writer Ha Myung-hee who wrote 'One worm word', 'High Society', and PD Oh Choong-hwan who worked on 'You from another star, 'birth of family' among others. About the drama, PD Oh explained, "Doctors is the story about meeting. It portrays how a person grows up and flourishes after meeting someone. The reason we picked a hospital is that we saw it as dramatic space where can show how a person can change when he meets someone when he is sick and has difficult time. Hospital set can be bleak, but we tried to make it pretty to show what/how encounter was made and how people matured and loved."
About his role, Kim Rae-won said "I am having fun because it is bright and lively role and I work with cheerful actors. Also it is medical drama which I'ven't done before, so I was very interested and PD-nim was young and witty and had sense. Even though shooting is tough, there are so much bright energy. I am getting lots of good energy. When I read the script at first, there were many embarrassingly cheesy lines and situations, I felt burdened thinking how I can do it, but once I did it, lines were tasty and many were actually good lines. I think writer-nim wrote well. It is first time I play a cheerful role since 'Attic room cat'(me: I think I will cry) and movie 'Young bride', I felt flustered also. I worried if I show as goofball, but they said I was cute. I think I like it because I work with good actors." PD Oh said "Watching KRW acting, I thought I should put my life on directing, but actually he is 'Sangkeum yi'(Feeling fresh) on the set."
Park Sin-hye explained her character. "It is character who has guts and does what she says she will do. Hae-jung is character who was raised tough, rebellious against the world, and has cold side cutting off people not to have relationship not to get hurt. But after meeting a warm teacher and grandmother and gaining someone's heart and whom she can depend on, she changes to grow up with warm heart, learning to trust people and love. It is beautiful to watch, but melo and comical parts will be in too. Script was very fun. I used to play a bright and courageous character, but this one has no manners and charges forward regardless. She came upon to me as attractive because she is unpolished. I thought she smells real humane."
About working with Kim, she said "I was fan of Kim Rae-won sunbae-nim. I used to film with people in my similar age group, and I am so happy to work with oppa who is a little mature, who I can depend on on the set- It is first time. Even without doing anything, energy are pouring out from my inside." Kim and Park are actually senior and junior from same JoongAng university.

Park visited hospital to learn how to tie(for the surgery scene), and does lots of reaing to speak medical terminology fluently. "Medical terminology is difficult because it is written in foreign language. I tried to do a lot of reading since doctors use them all the time." Also she checked and watched surgery scenes. "On the set, consulting doctor explains in detail for the situation I have not seen for real, and we get lots of help. The (brain)surgery in Neurology does not show much compared to other surgeries. The things shown in that area will be different from previous dramas."
Kim added "At first I didn't think too much, but as I was doing it, it became pressure. I am more attentive on feelings. Of course Hand movements should be natural and terminology should come out naturally, but the thing I put the most weight on is doctor's mindset about patients on each situation. I believe if I can pull that successfully emotionally, it might cover some lacking area. Because of these differences, show will be differently viewed against 'Beautiful Mind' of KBS. Park added "Just background is hospital in both dramas. We plan to show the transforming process when people meet people in a hospital, which is different from 'Beautiful Mind'."
PD Oh praised Park Sin-hye. "We all call her 'Our Sin-hye' on the set. She creates heart-warming story in the morning and in the afternoon in a day. She even takes care of youngest staff. For the first time I am working hard hoping actors/actresses becoming successful. She is good actress and her personally is great. Her acting is very good too. We took action scenes for 12 hours, and Sin-hye ssi filmed herself without using double. There are some shocking scenes. Please look forward her acting transforming."
Lee Sung-kyung plays Jin Seo-woo who has everything- good background, ability and personality. But she thinks she lost valuable thing to Hae-jung/Park Sin-hye and feels conflicted with pride being hurt. "When a person who has never lost or taken away from meets such situation, it becomes inferior complex with confidence lost, and she is not used going through that kind of hurt. So she makes Hae-jung suffer and she doesn't seem to know it herself, but she is not an evil character. It is just the first situation she's never experienced before. I think writer-nim will describe her growing-up well. I was very nervous, but there were so much love on the set that I am shooting happily thanking. Writer Ha especially asked her to emphasize on being stylish, so she plans to show her charms even with doctor's gown on. Even staffs on the set are showing 'fansim/fan heart' toward her.

She was asked about playing Paek In-ha in CITT. "I am thankful people viewed me as In-ha. CITT was a project which had a way too many episodes to make it to a drama, so time was limited to contain all. There must've been cold Inha hided in her image, but I couldn't show much in the beginning, and I did acting for strong impact. I worried if the viewers could get used to the character. It was thankful experience that I realized my lacking and made efforts. It was good experience but I hope Seo-woo is different character. Seo-woo shouldn't look as Inha. I hope people understand her that she is not evil."
PD Oh said "When I cast her, I had hunch there'd be something with the actress, and that hunch was right. I think she will get noticed as an actress by this drama. All male staffs cooperate with fan-passion for her and work hard. There are a lot to expect acting-wise. Lee is beautiful actress with clear mind." Park Sin-hye said, "She does so well on the set. She is a model-turned-actress, but when we act together, she is a good friend giving me stimulation that I should work harder. It will be safe to expect to see different side of her in this show."
Yoon Gyun-sang is still called as Moo-hyul on the set because there are many staffs who had worked on 'Six flying dragons'. He plays Jung Yoon-do, doctor with rich background. "He has many similar traits as Moo-Hyul and I think it came out from me. I made explosive class upgrade from MH to Jung Yoon-do. I am thankful as SBS's son (People call him SBS's son because he kept showing up in SBS shows). I think SBS can give me employee ID." PD Oh said, "Sin Kyung-soo PD of Six Flying Dragons said YGS was an actor with pure soul. He makes others feel comfortable and reassured."

'Beautiful Mind' with Jang Hyuk and Park So-dam had production press conference. [Sports Seoul, The fact, OSEN, Ent Today news]
KBS is in good mood these days. 'Lawyer Jo Deul-ho' was successful and 'Back-hee has returned' did well. Thus there are some expectation for this drama, starting with the writer Kim Tae-hee who wrote 'SKK scandal' and 'King Sejong the great'. Jang Hyuk said, "KBS kept having good ratings. I would lie if I say that I don't feel pressured. That is reality and I think we can get a good result (quality project and high ratings) if we can act well according to the directing and scripts."
Jang Hyuk plays a neurosurgeon. "I play Neurologist Lee Young-oh. He is a person who can't feel emotion, but as time goes by, he transforms to become more humane, having compassionate mind. Lee Young-oh character behaves differently depending on if there are people or not. When there are people, he pretends to communicate and emote, but when there are no people, he is closed off and can't connect, so in extreme, he can be said to be Psychopathy.. It has been a while since I did Medical drama. The first drama I did after I finished army duty in my early 30's was medical drama. Also first drama I do in my early 40's is medical drama. The doctor who we consult is the same person. I am studying hard and trying to make a persuasive character who is basically too logical, and doesn't have emoting capability, beyond being cold. It is very different from the roles I've played in the past."
He said his real personality helps playing this character. "I am the type who feels awkward when I meet someone or be in that kind of situation, so I think if I use that side of me, it might be helpful on my acting." On the second time doing a Medical drama, "In 'Thank you' the character was cold and selfish but had warm heart, but this Lee Young-oh can't feel. So I think I have to start from deeper bottom. No matter how cold they are, people are solemn in front of someone's death, but this person does not know it which causes other incidents, and the people came to know those and their stories are portrayed."
Park So-dam filmed pre-production drama 'Cinderella and the Four Knights' and she was accused because its airing was overlapped with 'Beautiful Mind'. But problem was solved because Ca4K is still in discussion for airing time. "In movie I always played a character who is far from the realistic. So I wanted to play a realistic character whom you can meet around you, so I am very thankful to be able to do this kind of role. I get to play police woman Gye Jin-sung who values principle but has too much passion. It is honor to work with sunbae whom I like and I feel nervous. Since I joined late, I prepared like water flowing (and shoot that way) not to show my absence on the set. I am getting used to the set without any problem because they made such nice atmosphere on the set...

This character only goes forward toward her goal without second thought to a degree that I wonder if it is ok to be this honest- which attitude I have not seen before, and sometimes she behaves the way I can't understand. I played the role so that the viewers could relate watching. Also I talked a lot with staff and actors."
PD Mo Wan-il said "As you will see in the project, she does so well that you can't even think of any other actress doing it. She has energy and freshness. As a PD, I had hard time thinking about any other actress. I was going to wait for her until one day before the broadcast. I am so glad and thankful that fortunately the issue has been resolved and shooting is going well."
On the question about age difference (15 years) with Jang Hyuk, Park said "There is no difficulty due to age difference. He is sunbae with charisma, so I felt some distance at first worrying how I can approach him, but I was melted when he smiled first. There are many scenes that I stare and threat him, looking at Lee Young-oh's eyes, and I am doing it comfortably." Jang added "Even though there is age difference, it doesn't give any difficulty. The atmosphere on the set make us feel at ease so I shoot without feeling that."
Yoon Hyun-min plays a warm and nice professor/doctor Hyun Suk-joo who was voted as no1. doctor patients want to seek again, no1 doctor who you want to work as co-worker, no1 senior doctor you want to take after. "I got to play really good doctor character. I am trying to pour everything in this drama -working harder than any other time. I loved when I read the synopsis and loved the impression of director when we had the meeting. While shooting for a month with the director, he gave me lots of help, and I am very happy about the fact there is a set like this. I am happy going to the set. Even for the acting I did before, I am thinking different ways to do, thinking I should think about it one more time. If that is successful, I think good drama will come out. I try to make a nice character whom people think there should be a doctor like him for real." On the question where he put his emphasis on, he said "My first goal is that I look like a real doctor. So I imagined the way of walking, talking, and looks and research them in addition to acting. Acting part is something I have to fill in by discussing with PD-nim and for rest of parts I'll keep research and interpret."
There is also Park Se-young. Yoon Hyun-min and Park Se-young worked on 'My daughter Geum Sa-won' together. Yoon is happy about it. "When I heard Se-young was cast, I was very happy. I am trying to be oppa who share our worries and can be strength to each other." Park agreed "Working together again was welcome and became strength. Whenever we shoot on the set, we talk a lot and share when we have concerns."

It is first Medical drama for Park Se-young. "Medical drama is first time for me, and I joined because I wanted to learn and try new things. While shooting, sunbae-nims lead so well that I am thankful and impressed. Since doctor role is first time, people around me worried a lot if I can prepare well. I also worried a lot but so far there are not many professional terminology and didn't have any surgery scenes fortunately. Sunbae-nims had many shootings for surgery scenes, so I am watching by side feeling nervous. In a way, she is the most realistic character so I hope I can portray that well and think I can show different side of me with this role."
PD Mo Wan-il said "I met this project one and a half years ago. Personally I wanted to do a medical drama at least once ever since I started directing work. When I met writer Kim and read synopsis, I could feel this writer does not write lightly but writes with most sincere mind. I felt that I could make a medical drama I wanted with this story. I felt this could be project people can watch with fun and feels... Fortunately actors that I love very much were cast, and now is time to show after long preparation- I feel nervous. There are so many medical dramas, and even in Korea there are many medical dramas coming out every year. When we -directors, actors, writers gathered, we gave good thought about what we could show. I am trying to put most earnest heart in every cut, rather than depending on style or technique, and I hope that will touch people's heart. I am originally fan for this genre, and I like police story. This has it all. Some incidents happen in the hospital will be connected to detectives in a very intense style. We usually don't think about doctors we meet as to what kind of people they are and I wanted to portray who they are in detail. The story about rust, fake, lies will have suspense and tension. I am confident you will be on your toes and you will feel intense. Since it is mixed genre and has many things to watch, I think people will love it."
Also about competing with SBS's 'Doctors', he said, "Doctors is also good project. I read the scripts. People may think we are in for competition, but it is really different. Even though the subject is doctors, the characteristic point is different. I think it will work if I can portray sincere and realistic doctor. I think the viewers will love the doctors who are even more realistic than us, so I am not too worried.

Excited for this to see Jang Hyuk and hoping that there is chemistry with the leads (cuz that is what the show is basing on)
I think it will have tough competition with Doctors and prob not do well ratings wise but hopefully not too badly! I'll feel bad for Oppa if the show does badly...
Glad I can watch both and don't have the choose tho!

I loved last ep of Dear My Friends- it was best and I am waiting for Jung-ah (and Choong-nam)'s revenge in coming eps. YAY!
Actresses in 'Dear My Friends' gathered for an interview in April [Cosmopolitan].
This drama was possible thanks to the writer No Hee-kyung who said "It started with my thought how I can have all actors whom I like in one place." How writer No was able to get trust of actors and has special relationships with them? "Actually I don't think I know actors' strength when I first meet them. Only after I work on one project with them, I can see their weakness and strength. So I think I like them better when I do the second project rather than the first one. I am slow I guess. Usually other writers say they can tell the strength and weakness just by looking at actors' faces, but I can see them right only after a project ends." Her project contains philosophy about life and that could be the reason the people watch dramas like 'It is ok It is love', 'Padam padam', 'Goodbye Solo' again. "I think everything actually starts from philosophy, since philosophical reason ties to idea on values. Since I think we argue or love because of that value, I get to write those lines. But this drama is different. It has lines likes what we use in daily life- 'Eat', 'Wash' etc, so as I was doing it, I had fun."
This is first time for Kim Hae-ja to work with Writer No. "As you can see in my previous projects, this is the first time I play this kind of role, so I really tried to be friend (with the character). As time passes on filming, I felt that this was a good project."
Na Moon-hee worked with the writer before. "Writer No has knack to look into people's mind. When I first met her project, I was really impressed." (She was in 'The world within' in 2008) Go Do-shim who was in 'More beautiful than flower' in 2004 said, "I was happy that I work with people I have worked for a long time. Loved just the fact we gather like this."
Go Hyun-jung also had expectation. "Even during shooting I feel longing every moment because I wonder if I am ever be able to work again with these great sunbae(senior) actors. There are many times I get emotional while shooting. Just a minute ago, when I was standing by Joo Hyun sunsaeng-nim(teacher) for shooting, I was overwhelmed with many thoughts. Also I have mother-daughter relationship with Go Do-shim sunsaeng-nim, and there are many conversation I can relate to. The viewers also might think "Ah, I also talked to my mother that."

About close relationship among actresses, Yoon Yeo-jung said "I have known Park Won-sook for such a long time that there is nothing to feel insecure about each other. When I practice my line, I said "I can't get used to this line", and Won-sook said "Unni, do I work with you on the phone?" Starting from this kind of atmosphere, I think our teamwork will shine in the drama." Go Doo-shim agreed "There are worries since this is the first time that all these elder actors work in the same drama, but because of that, it is so much fun."
Joo Hyun also has idea that a good project can be produced when actors/actresses with much experiences work in harmony. "Actor's dream is playing great role like this. We also have that much expectation doing the project."
Even though there are variety of programs in many channels, most of stories are played centered around young generation. Go Hyung jung said "In Korea, when we get older, even a little bit, we get to do mother and father role. I loved theme in this show is real adults' story. Also once shooting started, they were real professionals and very busy taking care of each other- that sight was just beautiful."
About aging, Writer No said "What matters is the person's character or personality regardless of age, but we tend to divide them by age, and the prejudice goes deeper that way. I wanted to let those go and observe - watching with depth someone's mother or father for 24 hours. I imagined the emotions and excitement coming from that. Themselves as they are without covering up. Also I thought to portray the passion of elders whatever level(not much) they have. Spring to Summer was much better fit than Fall or winter to describe them.
Kim Hae-ja added, "I don't think it is important to have mindset or thought about how we should get old. Rather, as it flows, knowing better about yourself is more important." Park Won-sook said, "Youth is confusion. Now it is all settled but when I think back, it was confusion. If young people are too restrained, they are not young. I really feel respectful when I see a smart young person. Because I didn't have much idea about marriage or career that time. But I think I did good becoming an actress. Also because I had confusion during youth, going through various pain and suffering, I am who I am now." Go Do-shim agreed "Right, and I think grown up's duty is to stand in their place firmly." Sin Gu said "Corners are wearing out and disappear. That is years and life."
Bak Won-sook added, "You look older but your mind does not get older, it only matures. Every day seems more special and beautiful. So I love today."

At the same time they are amazed about current youth. Yoon Yeo-jung said, "These days circumstances got much better for actors, but competition is extremely tough since opportunity is limited. When I see a young person who can dance well, sing well, speak foreign language well, I am amazed. Still, even though all are doing well knowing what to do, it will be nice if they can live as the way they are." Na Moon-hee adds, "The capability of Youth and Old are different. There are things you can do only in that time period. I hope we can enjoy the way it is."
Their message - Enjoy now and live fully when you are young.

Fan - thank you so much for taking the time and translating the interview! I feel like Dear My Friends is overlooked by a lot of viewers due to the casting but definitely deserves as much attention as the other airing dramas. I agree with Na Moon-he that writer Noh Hee kyung has a talent for tapping into the actor's inner mind and comes across as very real. I also think that she creates a good atmosphere on her dramas, and noticed that most of the actors on her dramas have worked with her at least once. I especially love this cast because they feel so relatable and real. I also love the "special" cameos by Jo In Sung, Kwang Soo, Sung Dong-Il and Jang Hyun-Sung, who are normally headliners in a drama but adds to the story on this one.

More interviews with Yoon Yeo-jung (Choong-nam).
[OSEN] Set is located in the valley where even the bus can't reach and in a tiny temporarily made waiting room, Yoon Yeo-jung who had 50 year acting experience was reading the script.
She said she decided to take on the show even before reading the scenario because of the writer No hee-kyung. "I decided without reading the scenario. Writer No asked me "Do you want to do a piece?" I did only two projects with her. It was not like we did the project together often, but it might be fate since you can only do a project when it fits to your schedule."
Since she hadn't read the script before shooting start, she misunderstood about the character she was to play. "In the beginning I thought Oh Choong-nam was a woman who was just big-mouth, so I acted that way. But writer No monitored my acting and said "This is not it" and explained who was Choong-nam and how she had lived. As you may have seen in earlier episodes, she has never been married, went through touch time due to financial difficulties, and has intelligence complex, so she likes professors. Hmm. And you know writer No's character? There is no evil character. Choong-nam is not an evil character. So I came to understand her character I had to portray. We ended up re-shooting."
She said some trait of the character is similar to herself. "Me? I am Ggondae (nagging elderly). Ggondae. You can't hide your age. No matter how you live pretending you are young, there is something you can't avoid. Ggondae has meaning to insult older people, but I think it means sometimes grown-up too. Human relationship depends on the situation. When you meet me on my feel-good day, I am grown-up, and when you meet me when I don't feel good, I am Ggondae, I think."
Even though she has 50 years of acting experience, it is hard for her to get 'sunbae'(senior) treatment on the set, because Kim Young-ok(Nan-hee's mom), Na Moon-hee(Jung-ah) and Kim Hye-ja(Hee-ja) are her sunbae she calls Unni. "Actually even now when I come to set, I can't distinguish if I am shooting or not(real life). (Even during the interview, she called Joo Hyun 'Lee Sung-jae', his drama character.) I have been acting with Na Moon-hee and Hye-ja unni for 50 years. We know each other too well. Strength as well as weakness. It is kind of ambiguous if I say I am acting. I have less shooting then my sunbae-nim, but I am the only one with swollen lips and feeling like dying out of exhaustion. I am so embarrassed."
Once she goes home, she becomes a daughter in front of her own elderly mother who is over 90 years old. "Mom has 3 daughters. I think it is nice to have many girls. I am the oldest, and it is obviously different. I think I can understand why in old times, people wanted to inherit all to the eldest. Even though I talk rather blunt, still there is something different. I don't know if I can say 'Because we went through good and bad times together. The...

The relationship is not just mother and the child, but is closer to the 'same blood' who know about each other too well."
When she is done with this drama, she wants to take a break. "I'd like to take a rest after this shooting. This fall my movie "Deadly woman'(The Bacchus Lady) opens. I appear as Bacchus(energy drink in Korea. Funny- isn't it God of Wine?) grandma. You can safely think Yoon Yeo-jung's 70s is the period to put things in order. I am limiting my work little by little. I am not saying I won't do any acting. I want to do projects with directors and writers I like to work with. The thing I realized while living to 70's.. Life is something you never know. It doesn't go as you've planned, and not always fair. That is life. You only know when you get there and experience first.

And I am consistently amazed at cinematography of 'Mirror of the Witch' (and how cute was Yoon Si-yoon in last episode). PD Jo Jung-hyung of 'Mirror of the Witch' explained about the show and its leads.[OSEN]
About Kim Sa-ron, he said "In the beginning, she did the acting fitting to her age, and the show explained that she fell into the icy lake so she does not get old in looks. Currently the character has 17 year old face but actually grown-up(20's). Kim seemed to have difficult time and felt lacking, but I think she is doing well." He says she is a born actress. "Kim prepares for her role in detail. She is a cheerful high school girl when not in shooting, but once camera rolls, she tries to do acting fitting to her character. That is amazing and makes me think that she is a born actress. In the beginning she seemed to be confused, but once she passed 17 year old role and only needs to play one character (Seori), she was doing well."
About Yoon Si-yoon he said, "Yoon Si-yoon is an upright young man. He is thoughtful actor. He always has the attitude of acting with consideration for others. He has baby face, but when you talk to him in private, he has mature ideas above his age.. When we planned the drama, production team wanted an actor with cheerful image to play Hu Joon character. We searched for an actor who has enough acting experience, has cheerful face, and whose smile can be plus to the others, and when we met him, we thought he was a good fit."
People are curious about the relationship between Hong Joo(played by Yeon Jung-ah) and Choi Hyun-seo(played by Lee Sung-jae). PD Jo said "We plan to reveal their relation in middle to later episodes. The reason Hong-joo wanted to change the world is because she went through unfair incidents in the past. The reason Hyun-seo stops Hong-joo is because of her method. Hong-joo thinks that result matters regardless of the methods, in which following generation can live better. They just have the difference in their ideas."
There are a few mysteries including last page of Mauigeumseo torn. "We try not to give out too much explaination. The viewers might think we are not kind, but all will be brought out soon. We try to resolve the hints we planted in previous episodes. If you watch episodes 1-6 again after you watch ep 7-10, you will have different feeling."
He said Sageuk genre is just a setting. "I didn't want to film a Sageuk. I wanted to talk modern man's story with Saguek background. We decided on this production method from the time we made 'Maids'. Rather than Saguek which explains the history, I wanted to talk about modern man's worries in Saguek costume... The key point in the show is class society, wrong system insinuating our current society. The viewers might think Hong-joo is an absolute evil, but that is not the case. Hong-joo is the character who thinks that Joseon's class system is not fair, and wants to change the world...

Also Hu-joon shows bitterness against the society because he was born as illegitimate son and was mistreated...Thesedays people talk about gold spoon/dirt spoon (born rich or poor), but I wanted to go beyond that in the drama. And wanted to talk these things with the viewers. I chose Sageuk to be able to talk about it freely."
People are also amazed about CG. The realistic wolf was created by director Hong Jae-chul who worked on the CG for Hollywood movies 'Transformer' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean', and white tiger was created by Dexter team who won the visual effect award previously. "Because we didn't have enough time, we had to re-arrange many things. We decided to give up some things and save some things to do effective CG. We've worked having the exact picture in mind from the beginning. People who don't know the detail would think we completed those in impossible time frame."
I think: It still feels creepy thinking Kim Sae-ron is minor, but fortunately the show has not been heavy on romance, and personally I am worried about Yoon Si-yoon's health. I don't know how he does it with shooting 1N2D.
They had press conference, but I didn't have time to translate it (Among others, Yeon Jung-ah/Hong Joo said her grade school kid said 'Kill my mom!' when Seo-ri comes on watching the drama. Yoon Si-yoon said he followed Cha Tae-hyun' reaction in 1N2D on ghost scene.)

Besides shocking news about Park Yoo-chun's scandal in this week, I was surprised that Sung Dong-il (beloved dad of Reply series) revealed he does not have TV at home in TVN 'Taxi' show. He said it has been 14 years he didn't have TV and his three kids (5-10 year olds) thought every father has occupation working on TV or Movie until last year. He said he hasn't watched any of Reply series. Also he didn't know it was TVN drama. Seriously?

Happy Friday to everyone!
My first visit to the beach is almost here and I've already packed my bag. Three bottles of sunscreen and off we go. The sun is perfect and the sea is so blue, that's why I'm planning on catching up on my dramas after Monday. And I'm not even feeling down...
I'll be missing my beloved bunch of seniors in Dear My Friends as well as the super cutie Gong Shim. Nam Goongmin is doing a fantastic job in the drama (as usual!). I'm thrilled that lots of people get to know this side of his. I've being following his career ever since I watched Dirty Carnival and I never liked the fact that he got the biggest boost through a variety show. He's so talented and deserves so much more in K-ent. I hope that Gong Shim -plus the good rating- is a new turning point for him.
See you all on Monday, ta-ta!!!

I'm super impressed he is into directing and how he has a degree in Engineering (I think?) and didn't join acting the usual route...
Anyway, hope you see this and Thanks in advance!

I'm three episodes behind on Oh Hae-young Again and missing the recap comments :(
And please, PLEASE drama gods, can the Lee Min-ki/Shin Mina pairing for tvN actually become a reality, and have a script as good as the actors deserve?
So that's basically no dramas this week, though it seems to be trailer season. Scarlet Heart actually looked good last week, now this week is the turn of Uncomfortably Fond and.... I'm really not impressed. But it's Lee Kyung-hee + a ton of publicity, this one basically has its work done for it.

don't apologise, we all have different tastes. I'm often left scratching my heard over some people most of Korea seems to think is THE ultimate beauty, and there are people who don't think oppa is beautiful either. It takes all kinds!
I actually thought the thin wall from her end made sense, she was holding back because she knew she was dead and they couldn't have any kind of normal romantic relationship. So for me, the vibe worked. At least it wasn't completely absent/negative chemistry like Joseon Gunman's OTP.

I have nothing to watch or look forward to till August (Scarlet Heart, Moonlight/Cloud and Age of Youth). Hopefully one of tvn's shows will surprise me.
There is not a whole lot of summer flicts in the cinema that I want to watch either beside Jason Bourne. Such a boring year lol.
I'm freaking annoyed at Marvel for what they are doing to Captain America (comic). Kind of ruined everything he stood for, at least to me.

yeah, none of the upcoming shows look like things I want to watch (W has an interesting premise but the teaser looks way too cheesy, I just can't with it). Bring It On Ghost is out because of the casting, squick AND dead eyes is too much for me to take even with Kim So-hyun.
I'm not a comic fan but knowing the history of Captain America, the making him a Nazi/Hydra thing seems doubly outrageous - can't blame the fans for being angry. And it certainly looks like Chris Evans is not into it either, though that tweet is probably the most he can say to express any dissatisfaction - he's the face of the franchise, he can't publicly criticise the comic's story decisions (though it's still in very poor taste that they chose to pull this just as Civil War was coming out).
And yeah, theatres are pretty empty for movies in English, but here we've just got a major new movie that's been fighting a pitched battle over censorship, which resulted in the would-be censors getting told by the Bombay High Court, Portia from Merchant of Venice-style, that their job was to certify movies, not censor them (and then the censors were petty and leaked a copy of the film ahead of its theatrical release).
So I shall be watching Udta Punjab this weekend, out of pure spite against those too-big-for-their-britches censors, and in the interest of free speech.

in terms of crossing the line between game and reality, Seo In Guk, Park Ki Woong, Jung Woong In, Kim Hae-Sook.
in terms of being genuine and natural, Gong Hyo-Jin, Kim Seul-Gi, Daniel Choi, Sung Dong-Il
In terms of being dramatic, nearly theatric - Shin Sung Rok (who also has perfect comedic timing though). And I think from women Park Joon-Geum, who doesn´t get appreciated enough cause she usually plays the evil chaebol mom but she does it so elaborately! and Hwang Jung-Eum is (over)dramatic sometimes
in terms of micro-expressions and fine detail, almost untangible changes in the eys - Park Bo Gum, and I honestly dont understand how such a young guy has the skill of a seasoned actor? From women, only Jang Nara can match the cuteness and innocence. Maybe also Lee Bo-Young
and Yoo Ah-In is a different class alltogether. He is unstoppably determined, like a person who wins in poker hundred times in a row without cheating. he knows where his going and works like a maniac, yet how come this human tank is such a dork in magazine photoshoots? from women, Jun Ji-Hyun is that level. She is the joker in the pack. Cannot beat her.

for me, acting isn't only about being able to emote the OTT dramatic expressions, but also the subtler ones, and making their characters feel believable and real. So for me it will be (this is both genders btw)
- Lee Sung-min
- Jeon Do-yeon
- Go Ah-sung
- Yoo Ho-jung
- Seo In-gook
- Ha Jung-woo
They're all incredibly versatile actors who toggle between different characters with the greatest of ease. Like Ha Jung-woo, I can hardly believe the same guy played both the serial murderer in The Chaser, the harried North Korean agent in The Berlin File, and the hapless idiot in Love Fiction. It's very hard to believe that Yoo Ho-jung played both older Shim Eun-kyung in Sunny and the insecure, immature mother-in-law in Grapevine even thought both characters were middle-aged women dealing with family life. Same with Seo In-gook, there isn't a trace of AM1997's Yoon Yoon-jae in his performance as Hyun in I Remember You.

The five actors whose acting abilities impressed me the first time I ever saw them (usually I need to see an actor play 2 or 3 roles) and are some of my fav actors ever are:
-Song Joongki (first saw him in Nice Guy, knew nothing about who he was but was so impressed about how he could display so much feelings with just his eyes.)
- Yeo Jingoo (first saw him in I Miss You and was blown away)
- Park Boyoung (First saw her in Werewolf Boy and that scene where she tells Song Joongki to leave still gets me)
- Ryu Joonyeol (Reply 1988. Cried for a week when Junghwan got his heart broken. I am not a crier. Enough said.)
- Kim Sohyun (First saw her in Rooftop Prince and actually had to stop the episode for a second because she played the psycho-sister a little too well)
I am also impressed how Yoo Yeonsuk can play both truly despicable characters and the sweetest kind of characters extremely well. Every time I see him in a film, I either absolutely love him or absolutely hate him.

In between the Mon.-Tues. one-two punches of OH HAE YOUNG AGAIN, I've watched FLOWER BOY RAMYUN SHOP (thanks for the tip, redfox!), which had some very funny scenes even if the ending kind of fizzled. Made sure to enjoy a couple of bowls of udon for total Sensurround enjoyment.
Because it was mentioned in one of the OHYA recaps, I watched the first episode of HEART TO HEART, and may get around to watching the rest of it soon. In addition to having a wacky shrink in the cast, Lee Jae-Yoon plays a sympathetic cop in this show, so it kind of makes up for the short shrift Tae-Jin has been getting in OHYA. The female lead is severely socially phobic, but gets out and about much more than the female lead in CASTAWAY ON THE MOON, which I watched yesterday to let my brain cool off from OHYA. Imagine my surprise when the peeping Tomasina with the telescope turns out to be played by Jung Ryeo-Won (alias Kim Sam Soon's nemesis).
If you think OHY's experiences are embarrassing, you should see what Jung Jae-Young's character goes through in CASTAWAY. I loved his performance in WELCOME TO DONGMAKGOL, so gave that a rewatch, too. One of my all-time faves, and Joe Hisiashi's OST is terrific.
I think it was in the OHYA episode in which Tae-Jin drops by DK's office that I spotted a movie poster for FATAL INTUITION displayed rather conspicuously in the hallway, so I watched it two days ago. Oh, Lordy... More premonitions -- that turn out differently from what was foreseen by the person cursed with visions of the deaths of other people. As one of the Beanies mentioned in an OHYA post last week, there are elements of Korean shamanism in the show, and that goes for FATAL INTUITION as well. Another Easter egg from Writer-nim?! This is getting ridiculous.
As for the film itself, the plot was deceptively straightforward. I got startled once or twice. The bad guy is always in plain sight, but the backstory with twists wasn't revealed until late in the movie. Joo Won was believable as hardworking and overly-protective oppa Some of the FATAL INTUITION OST consisted of particularly soothing piano music.
Now I'm wondering which other flicks on MovieSound's walls I should be watching... It was a fluke that I happened across the graphics for FATAL INTUITION while searching for an different show. Or was it? ;-)
MY FRIEND IS STILL ALIVE, a single-episode KBS TV movie made in 2011, turned out to be an enjoyable and heartwarming drama with a twist or three. You know who your friends are when they help you with your bucket list in the face of terminal illness. Keep the tissues handy...

Heart to heart may get a little draggy but stick with it. I enjoyed how the OTP developed and loved the secondary line with the cop.

Thanks for the feedback... I've just been waiting for a lull, and wanted to watch a bunch of flicks that have been calling my name.

What a wonderful voice Georg Ots has! The arrangement reminds me of a classic Broadway musical -- it's terrific. I think this is my first time hearing Estonian, too! ;-)

Sublime! One of my all-time favorite pieces from "Man of La Mancha." Bravo, Mr. Ots!
My folks took us kids to hear Jerome Hines of the Metropolitan Opera perform that role at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey at about the same time that Georg Ots made this film. He has a profoundly deep voice that I think you will enjoy hearing.
Thanks, redfox!

Hello, first time commenting here~
Have been rewatching Shut Up Flower Boyband because I watched L and Kim Minseok on Celebrity Bromance and then spottedKim Minseok and Lee Hyunjae together on Radio Star. This is really my favorite all time drama and I am surprised to see that the screenwriter hasn't done any other works other than this (at least from what I see on her asianwiki page). I was excited to check out her other works but too bad there isn't any. There are many bad scriptwriters who keep getting their works accepted, but when I want to see more from the one whose work I liked, she only has one work :(
Beautiful Gongshim is still delightful and even if the story is predictable, I'm here for the characters. I feel like I can relate to Gongshim a lot, Dantae is awesome, and Junsu is like a puppy (I am going to be mad at the drama if they ruin Junsu's character).
Mirror of the Witch is still amazing and keeps me on my seat, the plot progress is pretty slow but somehow it still manages to keep me hooked. The newest episode is pretty awesome--want to talk about it but..spoilers.
Probably will start watching Police Unit 38 and Doctors...after exams end, sigh. For now I'll just keep watching Gongshim and MotW as a break from studying.

Welcome aboard, deirdre...
I know what you mean. I'd love to see another show by screenwriter Hwang Jin-Young... but THE KING'S DAUGHTER, SU BAEK-HYANG is the only drama they've written, as far as AsianWiki is concerned.

It's a sad week for me because my buddy Checker, the most cutest dog died on Wednesday.. thus I had no mood to watch dramas...I have so many to watch though.
I manage to see OHY and it was super cute! Though I find it kinda stupid on the kidnapping part.
Beautiful Gongshim is getting more interesting and I wish they speed up the romance part. I'm thinking Junsu will somehow date Gongshim? I hope I will be wrong and Ahn Dan Tae doesn't waste time.
I dropped Entertainer..so I'm wondering if I should marathon it or just watch the last 2 episode. I stop somewhere around episode 6 or 7.. I think with flashbacks.. I might still understand.
I hate Park YooChun for making my week worser. He was my bias..and the news keep on coming.

Heee... CNN site had an article, this week, about a mom revealing to her kids that she was actually a spy. The first thing that came to my mind, when reading the news article title, was the kdrama "Spy"...

The wait is finally coming to and end and November is almost here. I truely everything about mermaids as a mystic and on top of all that. Jun Ji Hyun will be the mermaid and on top of that LMH the chaser.
The water under filming and everything this could be historic and probably start a huge mermaid syndrome

There's a documentary coming out about the story of Choi Eun Hee and Shin Sang Ok's crazy abduction by Kim Jong Il and subsequent escape from North Korea! It's called The Lovers and The Despot and it looks pretty cool.

A box of Kleenex should be offered to all the viewers of dear my friends! I'm a mess each time. ThankU No Hee-Kyung and Hong Jong-Chan for this great piece of drama. And may all these wonderful actors be blessed !
Mirror of the Witch is a big surprise for me, I adore it, it keeps me on the edge of my seat each time despite the somehow slow plot advancement.
Just started police unit 38 !! Ma Dong-seok is brilliant in it I want to give him a big hug. I'm so happy this period is here thanku drama gods for filling my summer with great dramas.

Hi I haven't been here for awhile. Blame real life. I've gone from downloading torrents to basically sneaking in Kdrama times at 5am in the mornings on my phone. I woke up early and just finished Gong Shim ep 12.
This 1% of anything remake has made me want go marathon it again. It wasn't the best drama but it just chugged along. Where do you guys watch it online? I am a viki drama sort of person so hardly ever go to streaming sites. I could at a pinch look for the series to download but can't even get to my laptop to watch it. So online it is. Unless someone remembers enough to tell me the plot. I mean I watched it twice and caught ep 22 and 24 online about 8 minute each. Was there a pregnant doctor? That plot was stupid. But all I remember was she had an abusive father. Can't remember how she met the guy. Then the heroine had a brother? Who went overseas for some mission work and asked a single mother to wait for him?
Now you see why I wanted to rewatch. The thing is I can't even stand the grandfather or the female lead. If I could get a summary I could save 24hrs of my life.
Thanks in advance.

Ck1Oz ~
I watched 1% of Anything just a couple weeks ago when I read about the remake.
I like Kang Dong Won as a film actor, but I knew almost nothing about his dramas. I still prefer his works in cinema even after this, tbh. To his defense, he was quite young back in the year 2003.
So, here some answers to your questions:
The doctor is Dae-hae's friend since high school. Her abusive step-father drove the girl away and that's how she ended up living in her friend's house as an adoptive sister.
She met her future husband when he was trying to approach Dae-hae; he mistook her for the future heiress to the family's fortune because of some (silly) misunderstanding. The man was KDW's cousin and one of the two possible suitors for DH according to the grandpa's will. He finally married the doctor after lots of fights between the couple and their families and one unexpected pregnancy.
The brother of the ordinary family was a doctor as well. By the end of the dram, he chose to volunteer for a mission in Africa (in a war zone, I think) with a network of doctors similar to "Médesins Du Monde". There's no single mother involved, just a young lady whose little sister used to have a grave disease. They both started living with his family since they had an evil stepmother back at home.
1% of Anything is a novel (according to Asianwiki) with less love stories and more family in it. It reminded me more of a 50-episode drama and certainly not a rom-com (like Family's Honor, a brilliant show of this particular genre). I loved the grandpa and I preferred the heroine when she did the "Cinderella Transformation" all by herself. She's a kind teacher with a pretty face and a hot body under all those conservative outfits. I guess the writer is a man, right?
I hope you found this a little bit helpful :-)

Hah!!! I watched it twice and couldn't remember the details. So thanks heaps. In fact embarrassing to remember but can't even remember the suitor part. Only vaguely. I might now skip even watching it and save my time.
I actually should be studying harder for my Korean lessons and not procrastinate memorizing more words. So thank you for saving probably 30 over hrs of my life with this summary.
I love Family Honor and have watched it over 10 times. I like it a lot for the cultural aspects of the drama. Although these days it's tinged with disgust when I see PSH appear. My favourite is the older brother's romance. Just skipped fast forward it a few weeks ago.
