Choi Ji-woo considers becoming Woman With a Suitcase
by girlfriday
New legal drama Woman With a Suitcase has secured a new home at MBC, and an offer is currently out to Choi Ji-woo (Twenty Again) to headline. I keep getting this drama confused with On the Way to the Airport, which has nothing to do with this series except for the travel-themed titles and the courting of Choi Ji-woo. The stories are vastly different—Woman With a Suitcase is a success story of a woman who goes from lawbreaker to legal shark.
The new human drama is slated to be a fall Monday-Tuesday series on MBC, after having originally been shopped at cable network tvN. Writing is Kwon Eum-mi of crime thriller Gap-dong and melodrama Royal Family, and there’s currently no PD attached. Ironically, the show was originally going to be directed by PD Kwon Seok-jang of MBC’s Golden Time, Miss Korea, and Pasta, but he’s since left MBC, and can no longer direct the show now that it’s headed to his old station.
The heroine is a successful office manager at a law firm who gets framed for a crime and sentenced to a prison term for violating the Attorneys-at-Law Act, which sets her back years in her career track. After serving her sentence, she rebuilds her life by pursuing her dreams, overcoming her ex-con past, and becomes a lawyer. She opens up her own firm and grows into a fearless attorney with her own network and investigative skills that rival a detective. She carries a suitcase full of case files everywhere she goes, hence the title.
She’s known for stopping at nothing if it’s for a case, and someone approaches her with a dangerous proposition that sets her on a new path. The human drama success story sounds like a female version of Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho, and I can see Choi Ji-woo adding charm and warmth to the character and making us root for her. She sounds like a positive character, so I’m hoping there’s some lightness to the role because I really enjoyed Choi Ji-woo tapping into her sweet side in Twenty Again and want more of that.
Woman With a Suitcase will follow Monster on Mondays and Tuesdays in September.

I swear, I can't correctly distinguish javabeans and girlfriday. Whenever I go, "Oh, this is javabeans' article" and look at the author, it turns out it's written by girlfriday, like this article. And vice versa. It's like the Weasley twins' Mischief Managed.

Same sentiments, really. I thought I can distinguish them already (after following this site for almost five years) but I guessed wrong. Well, what if they're one and she (or he) is just suffering from Dissociative identity disorder ala Dohyun?

Lol if I haven't heard their podcasts and seen pictures of them I'd also think they're actually one person, how can two people's writing be so similar...what sorcery is this? :-P

I'm actually getting pretty good at it! I couldn't tell you in words what the differences are yet but I'm startin to pick up on them. I'd say my accuracy is 80% correctness, haha.

Oh, she definitely does. Have you listened to the City Hunter podcast? Haha.
I think she was more in love with him in the City Hunter era rather than post-Heirs, but I think she still loves him.

She definitely does. Or did.
Her disappointment with him in Faith was so funny. (To me.)

I don't mean to be snarky but they usually like to word play with a Korean drama. What's with the titles?
The suspicions housekeeper feels twenty again. So she's not on the way to the airport because she's a woman with a suitcase. All I need now is a drama with " she can't check in ".

I don't see the connection you have between the Suspicious Housekeeper and Twenty Again since they are as different as night and day.

Yeah it sounds like Jo Deul-ho. How about offering this role to Kang So-ra? I feel sorry for her since they didn't give her anything to work with in that show.

LOL never see this coming, but if she accepts, welcome back to dramaland Choi Ji Woo (not that she has been absent from small screen for a long time).
Although I was rooting for Kim Hyun Joo for the lead role, but CJW is also fantastic choice. As long as it is an actress who can carry the whole show since it is female centric drama, I am OK with that. So how about Jin Goo for the male lead?

So many new dramas coming! I'm hyped for it but I've lost all control of what airs when and the titles, broadcast stations etc. How about creating a page of some sort with an overview?
