Pick a card, any card, for Oh Hae-young Again

The upcoming rom-com Oh Hae-young Again does seem cuter the more I see of it, and now we have a full set of character posters to introduce our main cast, featuring Seo Hyun-jin (Let’s Eat 2, Three Musketeers) and Jeon Hye-bin (Joseon Gunman) as two very different women both named Oh Hae-young, and Eric (Discovery of Romance) as the man who gets caught up with both of them.

For instance, in his solo poster below, the copy reads, “The woman who screwed me over, the woman I screwed over, both Oh Hae-young!” His character is a film sound director and possesses the ability to see the future, although one wonders why he couldn’t pick the card he wanted, then — he wants the successful, pretty “Gold Hae-young” played by Jeon Hye-bin, but gets stuck with plain, ordinary “Dirt Hae-young” instead.

Seo Hyun-jin, whom I love as the everywoman — she has a knack of giving her performances an added oomph, making her characters real and relatable — poses in her poster with a (frankly creepy-looking) crying doll. Her copy reads, “I’m just Dirt Hae-young, she’s Gold Hae-young!” It’s got to be aggravating to always be cast in the shade of someone who’s better off than you, which is exactly her dynamic with the Other Hae-young, who went to school with her and now also works with her (in a higher position, to boot). In her poster, Jeon Hye-bin holds a shiny Barbie and smiles confidently while her tagline says, “That’s right! You’re Oh Hae-young too?”

Yeh Ji-won (Page Turner, The Producers) holds a champagne bottle in one hand and a baby’s milk bottle in another. She plays Eric’s older sister and Seo Hyun-jin’s superior at the large-scale catering company where both Oh Hae-youngs work. Yeh Ji-won can be a comic scene-stealer when the occasion calls for it, and I’m hoping for her quirky side to come out, given her poster’s tagline: “My nickname is Crazy [ddorai] Director [isa], so they call me Isadora.”

Kim Ji-suk (Sassy Go Go) plays a lawyer who doesn’t quite fit his profession’s image of smart polish: not only can he barely sit still for a moment, he’s also dense about reading situations. But at least he’ll be good-natured, being a cheerful chatterbox — perhaps frustrating to other characters, but fun for us. When an “irreversible mistake” happens between our two leads, it’s Kim Ji-suk who hangs his head and says (in his poster), “I’m a jerk, I’m a bastard, for inciting you foolishly.”

Last but not least, Lee Jae-yoon (Dazzling Temptation) takes up the role of Seo Hyun-jin’s ex-boyfriend, and apparently that didn’t go too well since he’s now in a prison uniform clenching his fist and thinking, “If you ask what my crime is… it’s for wanting to marry Oh Hae-young.” Well, I’m going to guess there’s also another crime involved, given the whole jail aspect to his character.

I’m hoping that Oh Hae-young Again pulls off the zippy comedy of the PD’s last drama, Marriage Not Dating, which became a sleeper rom-com hit and sparkled with chemistry. I always imagine this show’s title being roared in a comically exasperated way, “Oh Hae-young! Again?!” accompanied by futile fist-shaking at the sky, and the promos are playing up Eric’s character as a memorable one. Let’s just hope it lives up to the promises.

Oh Hae-young Again will follow Pied Piper as tvN’s next Monday-Tuesday drama. It premieres on May 2.

Love the quirks in the posters. I can't wait for this to air. As with all drama, I'm expecting some emo/angst at some points but just hope the fun part will still be a major part.

Looks like Park Dokyung is getting revenge on the pretty OHY for a no show on their wedding day, and in the end falling for the underdog OHY instead....

Looking forward to this! The teasers so far have been quirky and funny, the posters are bright, so I truly hope the drama will be a fun one! All the casts are looking great (honourable mention to Eric's shirt button, hang in there!) and their characters seem to be interesting. Here's to hoping that the 'gold' Oh Haeyoung won't be a typical 'pretty b*tch' and 'soil' Oh Haeyoung won't be a typical 'damsel in distress'!

So excited to see another comical drama after Comeback Mister. I wish Eric keep his Kang Tae Ha's hair forever. He was just too hot in that drama. But, it's Eric! He can pull off all hair cut even balded one.

My guess, Eric's character will do revenge what pretty Oh Hae Young did to him to the wrong person, which is dirt Oh Hae Young. So, if Dramabeans recaps this drama, what should we call these two Oh Hae Young to avoid confusion to our discussion in this blog? lol

This sounds like it's gonna be so much fun! Can't wait to see if it'll live up to my expectations :)

One thing though... When are we gonna get rid of the stock character that is dramaland's plain jane? They're never plain and most of the time they're just dense and clumsy. I want more female leads with lots of sass like those in MLFTS or The Lover. I really, really, really hope that this drama at least won't make their female lead yet another bumbling heroine.

I hope there's a loveline between Yeh Ji-Won and Kim Ji-Suk, and I hope it's as glorious as Kim Ji-Suk's in SGG and Yeh Ji-Won's in The Producers. I can so see the lovelines in those shows mixing together given their characterizations.

And since this is the MND PD, I'm sure the main leads won't disappoint.

KJS was the epitome of the 2nd male lead in INR2012 (the best portrayal of a 2nd male lead I've seen thus far).

Well, the best epitome 2nd lead male will be Won Bin in Autumn in My Heart or Kim Woo Bin in The Heirs and many others lol.

So looking forward for this drama, May come soooonn!
But for some reason, the poster succeeded in making Eric a regular guy instead of His Hotness..? Maybe this "reading into the future" means something like reading people ala The Mentalist, coz the show's vibe seems like down-to-earth instead of fantasy. And can totally see Eric being deep like that, heheheh.

Does "oh haeyong" has literal meaning?
Like how jangmi (in marriege not dating) means rose, or like haneul (like the actress kim hanuel and actor kang haneul) means sky

I don't think it has any literal meaning, but Oh Haeyoung in the context of this drama is a play on word. In Korean, 'Ohae' ( or 'Ohaeyo' for the formal version ) means 'to misunderstand'. It explains the set up of the plot where two people with the same name will create misunderstandings in the drama.

I'm the opposite - I like both Eric and Seo Hyun-jin, but to me the story seems likely to go down a well-trodden path - jerk male lead who mistreats poor female lead, who is unfavorably compared to higher social class secondary girl, who is male lead's first love who broke his heart - everything I see so far is very typical and uninteresting.

I find it really sad that such a beautiful woman is being considered "plain" and "dirt". She has nice features and actually looks like a real person with a face full of character. The "pretty" Oh Hae-young, to me, looks like a typical boring overly-plastic Korean actress indistinguishable from so many others. I don't personally think she's particularly pretty, just slightly weird-looking. I find it harder and harder to watch Korean dramas because of this kind of scenario. This sucks, because I love love love Eric and the overall premise of this sounds fun.

They're both pretty.

The non-"pretty" character is hardly ever played by a plain actress.

As for Jeon Hye-bin, as far as I know, she only had work on her nose after an accident.

I'm not talking about if the actual actress has had work done, which isn't really my point. It's about how she's got that very generic "ideal" look, which is in my opinion very boring and is so sad for Korean women in general, that they're all expected to look exactly the same and have the exact same face in order to be considered beautiful. Anyone who deviates from that is "ugly" or "plain" or "dirt" no matter how lovely they may be. Having lived in Korea for some time, I saw this in action every day. So I just find it sad to see yet another drama emphasizing (vindicating?) this very real, very negative aspect of society. Maybe they'll turn it around and do something meaningful with it. :)

Take it easy. They use 'dirt' and 'gold' to give intrigue for the viewers. It is clear this drama is misunderstanding because of the same name which involve their career and personal stuff, not because of their appearance. We see in the teaser the dirt Oh Hae Young doesn't wear weird outfit. She looks fine. But it's her personality which is clumsy but over confidence.
