Drama viewership ratings for the week of Mar. 28–Apr. 3, 2016

We’ve got a few new shows to add to the ratings discussion this week, with a three-way premiere on the broadcast stations this Monday. Gambling fusion sageuk Jackpot came out in the lead, with the slick underdog lawyer drama Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho right on its heels. Revenge-themed 50-episode Monster came in third, though this ratings race is pretty close overall, with nobody flopping and nobody dominating.

…which is not what you can say about the Wednesday-Thursday race, where Descended From the Sun continues its massive domination, way out in front of the pack. I’m actually a little surprised that revenge-thriller Goodbye Mr. Black edged ahead of fantasy rom-com Come Back, Ajusshi this week, although that could be because (1) Mr. Black is getting more into its fun caper-like plot, despite the messy execution, while the character motivations in Ajusshi puzzle me, or (2) we’re just comparing heights of acorns at this point.

Over on the weekend, both Memory and Ms. Temper and Nam Jung-ki are doing pretty decently — just as long as we’re not comparing Memory to the double-digit ratings of its predecessor, Signal. I get the sense that tvN is in comparison mode and is disappointed, but hey, those ratings are respectable. And on the broadcast stations in family-drama territory, it looks like numbers are holding relatively steady.

I am happy for Ms Temper & Nam Jung Ki..☺ Its rating is considered good since it is jtbc drama..They serve higher rating..One of those drama that I keep waiting for new episode every week, nowadays..☺

It is not merely on Rom com, it does not have any flower boy (except Chan Sung). But I love it has workplace as a theme and also about family too! Some said they reminiscing Misaeng (I could not bring myself to finish Misaeng) when they watch this drama..

I am glad Lee Yo Won's comeback drama is receiving good reviews.☺

I'm happy that LYW's comeback drama is doing well too. Especially since they are following up two consecutive flops from jTBC but actually managed to catch up on ratings with tvN which is arguably the more established cable station. Anyway, this girl really takes the longest hiatuses. I have a feeling I may never see her on screen again after this. *touchwood*

She is a family woman. I think she was in hiatus for around 2 years (or maybe more) because she was giving birth ☺

I hope the rating will be higher..Hopefully it can reach 3%.

It's a good show. They didn't market it very well I don't think, it's not so zany. It's more of a Misaeng-lite story about an underdog company lead by a tough career woman. (Who unfortunately gets a lot of crap just because she's a woman. Grrr.)

Ms Temper is not having temper without any reason. She just cannot stand with ppl who are messing with her ?

This is really the season for girl crushes. First Oh Yeon-seo then now Lee Yo-won (absolutely adorable when she flashes that smile of hers).

yeah season for girl crushes ?

I think Ms Temper has finally feel happy in doing her job. When she was with Gold, she cannot do everything based on her own decision. So working with small company, she can do all sort of things. She is cute too when she was laughing after watching the ads which was the idea by Bong Gi.You know I can rewatch each episode again & again..

I think this show is perfect without any romance so I'm not looking forward to when they finally add it ?

Yes this show actually already perfect without any romance. Or maybe the romance to be inserted near the end of the drama? ;) I am OK with a little romance..

I tell you, even for yesterday's episode I already watched it twice lol? Thanks a bunch for the subbers because of their fast work. ❤

Her smile isn't even THAT beautiful, but you know that when she smiles, there's really a good reason for it. My favorite smile was when she said good job to Woo Joo after the 65.

I really love each of the characters coming into their own. I hated a lot of them during the first episode, and it's now episode 6 and it's paying off.

Ms. Temper is an awesome character. And I was totally expected to find her annoying.

Required fields are marked *

she actually has good reason for everything she does, people in the office are really prejudicing her for every thing based on birds saying.

but the things I love is when the chaebol JJ guy get cut off because the mother is on the relationship, that's a legit reason to broke up, the drama always play it like "love even conquer mother in law", but if the son can't break off the MIL influence, it better to take off alone.

I think the staffs in the office have their own reasons too, to be prejudiced towards her. But glad they are slowly changing in a positive way.. At first I was worried if this drama will go wrong, but glad it is on the right track.

I just think the staff is more believed in others saying, rumor than her and it harsh for them when they asked her to beg her ex husband for them. From the 1st time, there's nothing to do with him and the words they said to her imo is not considerate, it's like they want her to looked as frustrated as them.
at least they solve it in one episode

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

They have reasons to dislike or hate her, they have reasons to disagree with her, they have reasons to fear her because of the possibility of having no job tomorrow but their prejudice is just their own lame-ass small-mindedness and willingness to believe any gossip that comes their way.

One of them said in the first (or second?) episode "I have heard rumours", which is as wishy-washy as it gets. Even by episode six they have no more to go on that someone they semi-know saying "I saw them going into a hotel" (no details – not even "I saw them go into a hotel room").

They have never seen her flirt with a guy or use her body in any way and yet they were all ready to say "This woman sleeps with guys to get her way" as if it were a proven fact that they witnessed themselves. (Personally, I find that a pretty darn insulting accusation.)

There was grand moment of irony when Nam Jung-ki told Ms. Temper "since you are woman you might use tactics that men can't" when HE was the one that STRIPPED and was ready to sleep with her just because he bought so easily into all those rumours.

Fortunately, it's pretty clear by now that Jung-ki now 100% knows she would never use her body for business, and it's finally starting to dawn on the others in the office too. :-)

Im loving this drama so much! Im glad it has a mini following here too. Like, I wasnt expecting very much going in and ofc on a shallow note the lead guy's look is not really my thing. But I love the idea of a prickly heroine so figured it was worth a shot AND ITS SO GREAT? its funny, and heartfelt, distinct and a genuinely good workplace dramedy imo rather than comedy even. its def more com than rom atm. tbh I think they ARE sorta building up to a romance with Da Jung and Nam Gi but they are clearly building a basis for it first. rather than starting with attraction or the usual slap slap kiss dynamic. clearly they are building a mutual respect for the two first. then a friendship. and then i can see it going further. esp with Da Jung growing close to the Nam Family. with Bong Gi helping with Lovel's product and DJ's soft spot for NG's cute little son. I'm ready for them to become a family tbh. Plus if anyone can beat some actual sense into Bong Gi, its Da Jung.

This show maybe quite underrated here ( I don't know, just my opinion). But I feel glad to see some others who actually enjoying this as much as I do. Maybe we should raving about Ms Temper on OT every Friday. kkk.

tbh I was sceptical with male lead at first, I love him when he do secondary roles but unsure as a first lead. But he is portraying his character with great. Maybe, if they put more popular actor, this drama can draw more audiences. But I have no problem with male lead at all, I dont care whoever it is as long as he can ACT and not only pretty boy.

Hooray for Ms. Temper & Nam Jung Ki fans! I for one cannot wait for the romantic part to start, tee hee hee. I love that they started at the end of extreme spectrums but built a bridge by understanding each other's principles and growing respects. And I love how they mostly do good in a silent way, like Ok Da Jung actually watched over Nam Jung Ki on his picketing, and how Jung Ki is always advising others on Da Jung perspective. And totally aaw-ed seeing the "cool idiot" saved in her phone!

The romance has already started though. After Ms. Temper looked at the picture of NJG's one man protest then switched back to her home screen, the camera stayed for a few seconds on the "cool fool" picture. I think that's a hint that she thinks that what he did was quite cool (though stupid). Personally I'm not looking forward to the romance bits though; I quite like the show as it is.

It picks up!

Probably because i didn't like how pushy and obnoxious all the characters being portrayed on the first episode. Second one, is like a tone down version, a tad bit realistic.

It's pretty good but I'm still finding it more exaggerated than, it seems to me, it needs to be. There's plenty of real problems that vision-impaired people face, so I'm just not sure why the drama has every average person just be a total jerk? Sure, if someone bumps into you and spills your food you might get mad for a moment, but you're going to keep yelling at her though you see she's blind? And not one person – not even the adults that should be there – steps in trying to help? Same with the guy with the dog, which seemed like a seriously contrived scenario ("I'm going to sue you for animal abuse"?). Are we to believe that there are really only two people willing to help a blind person and everyone else is going to behave like an a** to her when she crosses their way? I'm just not sure why we need this when there are real conflicts in this scenario that offer plenty material for this story.

The actors are great though.

I'm not a fan either and rom.com is not my thing but we are finally getting a preproduced drama that brings this many tv viewers together since 4-5 yrs ago.

It's risky but I hope there will be more networks willing to support pre-produced dramas in the future. Not just for the return revenues but for the sake of the casts and crews and more.

Required fields are marked *

Yes we always welcomed for pre-produced drama. It has a lot of advantages , if it is executed well.

0

Well DoTS is also written by a another writer (who seems to not be often recognized)

I find that ppl on DB tend to be critical of her work due to the high amount of attention they generally receive (i.e Heirs) for what they are, like people find her overrated/hyped.

I'm glad about DoTS ratings as well, but I personally think that the ratings are mainly credited towards the main actors who are doing a fantastic job in portraying they're characters, b/c if you take song joong ki and song hye kyo out and replace them with unknown actors or just look at the plot, you'd realize there's not much there.
Good stories have good writing, believable conflicts and development, not only attractive characters.

0

Required fields are marked *

Yes the script originally from other writer. Kim Eun Sook enhanced the script.

But agree, one of the undeniably factor is because of SJK & SHK. If their roles fall under the hand of unknown actors, I doubt the rating could be this high.

I haven't really been able to get into DOTS, but don't get me wrong, being able to read recaps on it from here has been fun and the cinematography is stunning (yay for enough time to place into pre- & post-production and not trying to kill your acting and producing crew !!!) , but other than that, to me, it feels nothing more than like a drama with a lot of hype and not a lot of real story substance.... *cue angry looks from y'all*

I just watched ep 10 and well, it's really well executed for the genre and Eung sung is the girl....!
the relationship is really alluring for the viewer, the gaze hye soo give to jihoon is green light,
it has the sense and the feel and I really like how Eun Sang is such a sweet kid that doesn't make trouble and try to give her best. Every character has a live and perception that we can see grow and changes every week.

DoTS have similar trope with western cop procedural drama imo, every problem arise and resolve within the week, with a bit of pieces for the big arc somewhere near the end, that's why it seems like nothing really happen. Cause there's not much to wait for next week ep for except a new case and how they gonna resolve it.

Big Marriage Contract fan here! It has so much heart and I just love it. Glad it's doing well in the ratings. DOTS is fun and the cinematography IS beautiful, but let's be real, it IS the SJK & SHK appeal that's made it what it is. The second leads are also amazing together, very well acted. But I totally get the hype. It has a little bit of everything & has an overall message of positivity and sacrifice, so it seemed kind of a given that it'd be so popular. But yeah, personally is it the most amazing drama ever to me? No. Am I enjoying it a lot? Yes! lol

And, for the beginning i never interested in this drama, because you know the 18 years age gap between the male lead, and the makjang stories.
But, once again but!
Because lollypip and saya recapped it in DB, and alot people praise it, i try to check the first ep.
And, im in love....
So, thankyou Dramabeans, Lollypip and Saya.... ^-^

Every time somebody disses DoTS for being a lot of hype and not having a real story or substance, I can't help but wonder: Do many KDs have real stories or substance?
And why do monsters ratings automatically = hype?

It is simply because everyone has their own preference and taste. I like DOTS too, but more because I like the characters, not really into the plots.

I also didnt get the hype for my MLFAS for example, I left after few earlier episodes.

I started watching MLFAS before it actually become a craze. The first 2 episodes, while watching Prime Minister & I at the same time. Didn't find anything special about it but suddenly it was like "BOOM"

A hype. LOL

I left around episode 10. Guess it's personal preference, i don't think Korean dramas fantasy is my thing. With the exception of 49 days and My GF is a Gumiho.

I am convinced that if MLFAS didn't had JJH & KSH, I doubt it can be a hype.

Imho, the drama with top stars always draw high rating, even the script is nothing new. But few exceptional that the plot alone without the top stars can achieve high rating, for example Reply series.

Fans of DOTS should not feel bitter. This is definitely not an insult, and not saying DOTS does not deserve high rating whatsoever. Sometimes ppl can get so twisted.

I generally dont end up liking the monster ratings ones, left MLFAS, left Secret garden, left MTETS, didnt even watch that joo won tae hee drama, left DOTS. K-netz and me have different taste i guess, the only one we agree upon is kim sam soon XD

There's nothing wrong with that. Everyone has their own personal taste. It's great when people keep it respectful as you did. (I also haven't watched Yong Pal !)

I don't consider my comment in calling it a hype drama a diss-- so please don't call it that-- nor do I have problems with hype dramas or nor do I think that all hype dramas/ dramas with high ratings equates to just hype and no substance =)
I don't think that K-dramas will ever have 'real stories' nor will all dramas always have substance, simply because we are talking about tv and, yea, it's a drama, not real life

All of that is just my simple and humble opinion

Watching it and it keeps getting better.

Like everyone is raving about, the last scene on ep 9 is worthy of 'drooling' lol. I mean if previously, the scene where Ji Hoon picks Hye Soo up and let her seat on the counter and she squeals followed by his smoldering gaze is hot, this time it's just full with raw sadness.

And Ji Hoon looks like he wants to eat the girl up when he is kissing her. It sounds funny but its not. Love... love the lingering moment there. That is how you do a charge up moment people!

Bad feeling about the ending, but i can't help but watch it. Something is wrong... i don't like melos. LOL

And Ms Temper and NJG. LOL. She kicks ass, and i want to watch more to see her in all her glory. My weekend is shaping quite good.

I loved how he fully enveloped her in that kiss. I dislike very much those kisses with the hands cradling the face or neck that is so common in dramas. Like the girl is this precious little thing. Give me that full on kiss anytime.

Somehow, I imagined Javabeans saying this post in her best weatherman voice. I'm going to give Jackpot a few more episodes to thrill me, I can't help that in my mind I'm comparing it to SFD (sorry Choi Min-soo ajhussi and Yeo Jin-gu I know I said I love you guys but...). I'm so sad that two of my favourite writers are airing dramas in the same time slot. I love Moon Hee-jungnim, but I love Kim Eun-sook just a teeny bit more. I always watch KES for Romances and MHJ for Melos. I'll just wait till Black is done airing to watch it. I can't miss another Yoo In-young performance even though she's not the lead. I'm hoping this is the drama that makes me fall in love with Moon Chae-won like DOTS is doing for me with Song Hye-gyo. I have so many screenshots of her it's not even funny.

I absolutely loved Six Flying Dragons. Best sword fighting ever! Lee Bang Ji played by Byun Yo Han was such a beautiful tragic character. I haven't been able to start another sageuk yet. Is Jackpot worth a try?

Personally DOTS has caught me in its web with all the pretty and great acting, even with the cheesy dialogue! Have loved Song Joong Ki since SKKS. Excited to see Yoo Ah In this week in cameo! Ah, memories of a quintessential bromance!

Enjoying the david vs goliath workplace plot in ms temper. All the characters are growing and learning to fight in their own (the 1 man protest, lol). I wish we could take turns slapping the 1st husband numerous times on ms. temper's behalf. The 2nd husband and MIL deserve what they got. Can't wait to meet the 3rd.

Am I the only one watching happy home? subs are slow but it is so good.

I stopped watching DOTS after ep 6 but will watch again after it is finished so I can mass ffwd. I like the second leads though and I hv to see yoo ah in's cameo (dragons unite!).

Wow, I'm still stunned at DOTS's numbers. I'm not watching it but good for them and good for KBS! It looks like they're on their way back, ratings-wise.

Also, the comments here are making me think that maybe I should check out Ms. Temper... ah, if only I had the time.

Only watching Ms. Temper and Lawyer Jo this season. I like TVN but don’t be a greedy butt and compare show ratings with the Repy and Signal. Different people, different tastes like me I am not watching Memory because I can take some suspense but not drama drama stuff

I'm happy that Marriage Contract airs on the weekend so more people can watch it. I feel like it would be buried among the many primetime dramas on weekdays but the weekend time slot is doing good for them. And holy moly! DotS reached 30+ already? When was the last time that happened? Imagine if they reach 50. lol

I just tried to do some digging and not even YFAS broke 30%. Maybe the last was Moon Sun? Which broke 40%.

Even when it's not a show I'm watching, it's so nice to see non-weekend dramas hit such high numbers these days. I even thought so with Yong-pal this summer, which "only" broke 20% and people freaked out!

Yep. I think YFTS ended with 20 something. Moon Sun broke 40%?! I watched it way after it aired so I didn't know. Kim Takgu probably had the highest ratings from recent memory but that's 6 years ago. lol. It's also from KBS. I think they have a knack of finding dramas that would get high ratings.

Omg Baker King. To be honest I can't believe that was "only" 6 years ago because it was Joo-won's first drama and I feel like he's been around forever.

Yep, Moon Sun broke 40% three times, actually. The finale was at 42.2%

i liked neighborhood lawyer, nice to see that it's holding its own so far. the story itself doesn't seem anything new, but i did loooove watching park shin-yang for the first time in a long time. there was a scene where he was advising his client not to listen to kang sora, and i don't know if it was intended to be funny or not, but it really cracked me up. i rewatched that scene three times, cracking up afresh each time. kang sora is good too. as an actress, she's such a breath of fresh air, both visually and acting wise.

regarding weekend dramas: i feel like up till a few years ago there were really only three weekend shows to pick from—the ones from the big 3. but now with the introduction of the fri/sat time slot, plus the cable channels, it seems there are more shows than i can keep tabs on. not a bad thing, but for instance i didn't even realize ms. temper had even begun airing, and the promos had looked fairly promising too.

It's funny how a little while ago, when Moorim School was still airing on KBS and the ratings were miserably low, many people dissed KBS for being hopeless at weekday prime time drama and said that they should just give up and focus on weekend dramas solely. Now DOTS gets crazy ratings and Neighbourhood lawyer has decent ratings too.

Good for KBS. I watched DOTS and the cinematography is indeed beautiful. I just wish there was a more distinct plot beyond just... A series of events happening.

Sometimes ratings are just strange.

Wow! Was Moorim School right before DotS?!! Forgot about that!! Haha! Was too busy over SFD and Signal. My, how things can suddenly change.

With regards to DotS, I have come to the conclusion that rather than expecting for one "big bad", for me the drama is more about exploring the relationship between a special forces soldier and a doctor, who, despite of their initial attraction to each other, realized soon enough that they have different opposing ideals. It's fascinating for me to see the struggles they go through faced with different challenges in a war torn country and how these events change them and their viewpoints. But, again, this is a kdrama, we all take different things from it :)

Moorim School was aired on Monday-Tuesday while DOTS started airing at the Wednesday-Thursday time slot, in the week right before Moorim ended its run. But DOTS definitely came at the right time because Moorim School was getting an embarrassing all-time low of about 2-3% ratings towards the end, continuing a very long streak of bad luck in terms of ratings for KBS prime time drama.

It's something that you can watch with very little investment of attention and effort. I can idly swipe through my phone while watching DOTS, but it keeps me sufficiently engaged to keep watching. Other than occasional cringe-worthy English lines, it's good enough that I foresee myself finish watching the show. In two days I already marathoned 7 episodes. Yet if you ask whether it's something I'll remember for very long and care enough to rewatch, nope I don't think so.

memory is a really good drama though :( i don't understand why it's doing so badly sigh i guess i understand that the content is really heavy and people aren't keen to watch another alzheimer's drama but honestly if pitted against remember memory is so much more realistic (and thus heartbreaking) Lee sung min is doing a really great job and junho isn't doing too bad either :P this show just really deserves more attention (and more osts, gah i love the ost but it's literally on repeat)

The rating for Memory is fine as long as it stays around 2%. That is not bad at all for a cable drama.

Took 2 weeks off drama land, so i had some catching up to do.

Honestly, DOTs, i like the drama overall but i love the 2nd leads way better than anyone. Love SJK.

Marriage Contract blew my mind. Right now i am addicted to it. LSJ. Those dimples, my heart be still. I just wish he would marry now. I can see that Kdramas are changing there styles when it comes to romance. Before it was too unrealistic, now its more real.

Five Children, i soo love. Its fun to watch.

Yeah That's how it is. Fun to watch.

I really want to stick with Mrs Cop because i love crime/investigative dramas but only Kim Bum's smile is keeping me on it.

Haven't started Jackpot, Memory, and the drama everyone is saying has a drunk cameraman.

Dropped CBA, GMB.

Just started Vampire detective.

Is it only me that noticed that the opening credits of Pipe Pied looks like an OCN drama opening credit?
