D.O. joins afterlife fantasy saga With the Gods
by girlfriday
The cast has been confirmed for the new fantasy saga With the Gods starring Ha Jung-woo (Assassination) and Cha Tae-hyun (The Producers), and idol actor D.O. (Do Kyung-soo) of EXO is the latest addition to the ensemble. This is a movie I’m really looking forward to, because the webtoon is an interesting mix of dark humor and complex mythology, all about human souls facing trial in the afterlife and the grim reapers who collect them.
The film series from director Kim Yong-hwa (Take Off, 200-Pound Beauty) will be told in two parts, and is based on the omnibus satirical webtoon by Joo Ho-min, about a whole world filled with reapers, humans, and gods who pass judgment on them. Once a person dies, they’re assigned an afterlife lawyer to represent them in a trial that’ll determine how they lived their life and where they’ll spend the rest of eternity. It’s a court in which money and status have no meaning, and you’re assigned an afterlife public defense attorney to plead your case.
Cha Tae-hyun has been cast as an average salaryman who dies suddenly at the age of 39. His death opens the story, and we’re introduced to this world from his perspective as he prepares for trial. Ha Jung-woo headlines as the lead grim reaper, the character that connects the omnibus series as the soul-collector who freely moves between the living and the dead (on a subway train, heh). He’s a prickly boss with two reaper minions on his team, played by Joo Ji-hoon (Mask) and Kim Hyang-gi (Queen’s Classroom). Ma Dong-seok (Bad Guys) plays a character who protects humans in the living realm.
D.O. has been cast as a soldier character, Private Won, who’s central to the story. He’s definitely a successful case of an idol transitioning into acting well, with lauded performances in both his first drama (It’s Okay, It’s Love), his first movie (Cart), and his first leading role (Unforgettable). I was even more impressed with his creepy turn in I Remember You, so I think his acting future is pretty bright.
The two-part film saga will be shot all at once, and begins filming this month for a release next summer. That’s SO FAR AWAY…

D.O is the only member of EXO that can act in my opinion. He also among the good idols turn to actor currently so I welcome for any of his new acting project. Good Luck D.O

Agree with you. I'm an EXO-L but really, objectively saying, he is the only one who could act. And yes, his acting in I remember you especially, creeps me the most.
And he is a decent singer too. Good luck satansoo.

He's really good. His turn as the young version of the sociopathic killer on Please Remember Me was fantastic.

Totally agree! His acting in I Remember You is ah-mazing. I'm thinking that D.O will be the next successful actor-dol generation after Yoochun and Im Siwan.

not a big deal but i wish people would use his real name more for his acting activities. he uses it for a reason and that's to separate himself from his stage name.
i hope this film does well considering its a blockbuster and its big budget. kyungsoo is gonna go far in his acting career ~ im so proud.

What you mean Satansoo?? Jk XD I think they use the name D.O more because people can associate it with EXO which brings in the fan girls. It is more recognizable because it is used more often. I am more into k-dramas than k-pop and I knew him first as D.O than Kyungsoo, in fact it wasn't until
It's Ok That's Love that I found out his name was Kyungsoo. I agree he has a future in acting he has done great in his acting projects especially in Cart.

in the general public (at least in Korea) his real name is actually known more than his stage name. most people did not know he was in EXO or his stage name. EXO fans don't even call him D.O. lol. everyone calls him Kyungsoo. idk i'd just like it if his real name was used more since that's what he's wanted for his acting career.

It's kind of interesting to read about the differences between how Korea perceives it and how it is perceived internationally.

Lol ikr? Kim Hyang gi is the cutest little button, at least that's what I remember her to be from The Queen's Classroom. But then again, she's got amazing acting...remember all those crying scenes? That drama assembled the best child actors Korea had in that age group! And Kim Saeron has stepped into larger roles since that same drama...so whatever Hyanggi chooses to challenge herself with next, regardless of how we want to baby her, I will support!
Haha also, I've always wanted Hyanggi and DO to act together, preferably in a brother-sister dynamic since they look like they really do share DNA

She's nailing crying scene so well ;A; and she might be become pretty lady right now, Kim Saeron, Kim Sohyun, Kim Yoojung already landed a lead female role and here we have Kim Hyanggi as a cutie with deepened role to challenge her acting skills /proud
Yass! Hyanggi and Kyungsoo indeed have many scene together here! We can get brother-sister one in the next project hopefully (with Moon Geunyoung as their big sister, and Yoo Ah In as big brother, and Kim Min Jung as their mother) /winks

Yeah that movie. Yeah is a romantic comedy but it does have dark humor, given the fact that the main girl wants to die and he is a professional killer. Also I forgot to mention maybe A Hard day could also be considered a dark humor movie.

Has anyone seen Defending Your Life with Albert Brooks and Meryl Streep? It came out in 1991. Everytime I read the description of this movie I think of that movie. It has a similar plot.

I'm not really into kpop so I had seen It’s Okay, It’s Love and I Remember You before I knew he was an idol. But I was very impressed with him as an actor from the start and even more impressed when I found out he was an idol. I'm looking forward to more shows with him in them.

Super happy for him. At least he (or his management?) knows how to pick projects that showcase his acting ability. It also helps that he has a nice speaking voice too which really sounds great when he delivers his lines.

True. Actually his talking voice and singing voice is quite different. While his talking voice is kind of deep and heavy, his singing voice is kind of RnB soul. You should listen to his voice too while singing, he's a pretty decent singer and also one of lead vocal in his band.

This sounds exactly like a movie from 1991 called "Defending your life" with Meryl Streep and Albert Brooks
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101698/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_23
It was a really interesting moving and it even starts the same way and has the public defenders, etc.

It's great news in my boring life. Do Kyungsoo actor will have scenes with my bias Ha Jung Woo and Jo Ji Hoon. How God show kindness in human world...
Do Kyungsoo is one of few idol that can bring out the life and depth in a character (very few, I think). So it will fun journey to see the other world with him in it...
Still hope to see Kyungsoo in drama this year... pray hard for it.
