Lee Chung-ah, Taecyeon in talks to be unlucky in love for Lucky Romance

Now that MBC’s new webtoon adaptation Lucky Romance has secured its stars — Hwang Jung-eum (She Was Pretty) and Ryu Joon-yeol (Answer Me 1988), who recently confirmed — it’s time to line up the supporting cast. Offers are currently out to Lee Chung-ah (Vampire Detective, Riders) and Ok Taecyeon (Assembly, Wonderful Season) to play their rivals in love. Mmm… something tells me Ryu Joon-yeol will have no trouble getting the girl this time?
Though I’m pretty sure the main hurdle in this romance is the main couple’s dislike for each other. The webtoon is about a thirtysomething woman obsessed with luck, who gets told by a fortuneteller that she has to have a one-night stand with a man born in the year of the tiger to prevent an ominous fate. The hero is her landlord, an uptight, penny-pinching Scrooge who refuses to waste money on romance, who happens to also be born in the year of the tiger. She’ll try to bed him despite their mutual distaste for each other, leading to hilarity and romance.
Lee Chung-ah is up to play a sports agent — she’s the head of the Korean branch of a global sports management company, and she’ll have an unrequited romance with Ryu Joon-yeol. I like Lee Chung-ah, especially in comedies (see: Flower Boy Ramyun Shop), and I hope she has a fun role to play here instead of the usual meddlesome second lead.
Taecyeon has been offered the role of an athlete, which actually seems like a good fit for him. And of course he’ll be in love with Hwang Jung-eum’s character. Who knows, maybe if he and Lee Chung-ah are playing an athlete and a sports agent, they’ll have a cute side romance? I don’t think I’d mind that outcome.
Lucky Romance follows Goodbye Mr. Black on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning in May.

wahh, i see c-jes entertainment is really dominating the cast choices as 3 of the main leads are their actors.

Lee Chung Ah is finally starting to show up everywhere. I hope it continues. She's great. Anyway, I hope she confirms.
Taec is cool, too. I don't mind him. Although that's probably because I've only seen him in one thing, lmao.

Well, count me out. Hwang Jung-Eum is too shouty and tends to overact wildly. I've watched her in two recent dramas and now I'm thoroughly tired of her scenery chewing.
Ryu Jun Yeol is maybe low-key enough to maybe get her to dial it back a notch, but then they add Taecyeon, who is stiff and stolid and always looks like he is thinking of his next line - that's just too much bad acting in one space.

At least Hwang Jung-eum is capable of dialling it down a notch and delivering, when the script allows her to do it (Giant, later episodes of KMHM)
Taecyeon otoh..... I'm cackling at the dead-on accuracy of this: stiff and stolid and always looks like he is thinking of his next line
I'm not sure why he even has an acting career, or what drugs the casting directors who choose him for these jobs are on.

I like Hwang Jung Eum quite a lot. Sure, she can be shouty but I've never had complaints with her in the grand scheme of things.
Taec, I dunno. I haven't seen him in anything since Dream High. I imagine there has not been much improvement, But since I really like 3/4 of the cast, I'm here for it.

I agree. I haven't truly watched her in anything since 'Flower Boy Ramyun Shop'. It's been so long, I didn't even recognize her when she had a cameo in a drama a couple of years ago. Can't wait to watch her in 'Lucky Romance' and will definitely watch 'Vampire Detective' to see her and Lee Joon. Truly happy for her since this is a lead role on MBC. C-JeS is truly making waves. It's amazing how far they've come.

If Taec accepts this IDK what I'm going to do.
This would mix my new crush RJY with my forever crush Taecyeon - I think I might combust.
Plus I want them to be friends IRL cause they are so similar in personalities - adorable man-children but with surprising maturity and a love of travel.
I know he's not the greatest actor but I want Taec to say yes to this. (And hey, he's improving emoting-wise; I gave up on the drama cause I got bored but he didn't ruin Assembly all by himself)

According to Korean netizens, they are changing the original story of this drama. The original story of the webtoon there's no love triangle at all... Ahhh that's reminds me of CITT force love triangle... Am I the only one who prefer Lee Chung-ah to be the lead here? I know Korean perfer her too...

i want her to be the lead if only so hwang jung eum would star in something else besides her typical romcom fare. actresses like her and jang nara are by no means untalented which is why i wish they'd get out of their comfort zones and play roles they haven't done before.
oh well i like both female leads and tbh as much as i wish lee chung ah would play the lead role i know that hwang jung eum will do just as good a job

No you're not the only one. I would love it if Lee Chung-ah were the lead in this. I loved her in 'Flower Boy Raymun Shop'. She knows how to be zany without being overbearing. I really hope HJE isn't over the top in this drama. I almost gave up SWP until she dialed things down a few notches and PSJ's character stopped being so intolerable. When HJE dials down the over the top acting I enjoy her acting. I really don't want a repeat of those early eps of SWP.

hmm Why do i feel like they only took the webtoon base idea and try turning it into another generic rom-com by adding secondary leads with unrequited loves and whatnot?! Here i thought the webtoon sounds kind of quirky but not sure anymore. just hope they don't completely ruin it.

seriously why do people keep casting Taecyeon in things? Do they not see his previous performances? Or does he only see casting directors who are drunk/under the influence/have seriously impaired judgement?
And I don't care how much he takes off his shirt, nice abs are NO compensation for having to look at that dead-eyed face on my screen. Poor Hwang Jung-eum is going to have to carry all their scenes.

Interesting... I hated 'Flower Boy Ramyun Shop', but I liked Lee Chung-ah in 'Bride in Sneakers'. Also, who could dislike Taecyeon after 'Cinderella's Sister'? This should be a fun ride.

As much as I like HJE I really prefer Lee Chung-ah to be the lead in this particular drama. But that's not as a big issue as Taec being the second lead...SMH.
