Descended From the Sun: Episode 9

The confession cat’s out of the bag, and there’s no way Shi-jin is going to let Mo-yeon wiggle out of his grasp now. She’s stuck fighting her feelings and the force of her attraction to him, and losing spectacularly, not that she doesn’t put up a good fight. And she’s not the only one giving in to love — in the wake of the earthquake, many are realizing that life is short and precious, and you have to take your opportunities when they come.

EPISODE 9 RECAP

As Mo-yeon’s tearful cliffside confession accidentally plays over the loudspeakers to the entire base, she goes running back to Daniel to stop it, but it’s too late. Everyone, including Shi-jin, has heard it, and Shi-jin is there to meet her with an adorable “gotcha” smirk on his face.

Horrified, she just snatches her phone and runs right back out again. HAHAHA. And then Shi-jin jumps out the second-story window to catch her before she can get away. He’s waiting at the door when Mo-yeon gets there, and she defensively chastises him for using his Special Forces training for personal reasons.

There’s no way he’s letting her off the hook after her very public confession, and he just laughs when she yells that he shouldn’t have listened. He gets all up in her personal space, flustering her so badly that she even tries to claim it’s not her voice on the recording, and he tells her to stop dumping him all the time. He just wants to know if she meant what she said in that recording.

Mo-yeon calms down and promises to tell the truth, but the moment Shi-jin lets go of her arm, she’s off like a shot. I’d say that’s her confession, right there, and Shi-jin knows it.

Sang-hyun and Ja-ae go for a walk and talk about all the confessions happening in the aftermath of the earthquake, and Sang-hyun suggests they do the same. Ja-ae shuts that right down, but she tells him again to delete his porn folder. Someone seems a little jealous.

HA, the soldiers are paying off bets to each other over whether Mo-yeon liked Shi-jin or not. The loser, Staff Sergeant Choi, says that he doesn’t trust Mo-yeon — why would a pretty and smart doctor go out with a soldier? And even if she did, once she finds out what they really do, she’ll tell Shi-jin to transfer or even quit the army.

Mo-yeon can’t even get two minutes into a staff meeting before everyone is asking about her confession, and she tells them that as educated professionals, the least they can do is talk about her behind her back. Not that it works, and soon they’re arguing over whether today or tomorrow is the first day of her new relationship.

Min-jae glares while Chi-hoon gives him a checkup, and poor Chi-hoon can barely even look at his patient. Min-jae asks Sang-hyun for a different doctor, since this one left him to die, and anyway his hands are shaking. Sang-hyun says that a doctor isn’t a TV channel, and you can’t just change at whim. But he notices that Chi-hoon seems to have lost all his confidence.

Mo-yeon is nervous as a cat, jumping every time she sees a man in uniform, ha. Myung-joo catches her skulking around corners and asks if she’s hiding from embarrassment, so Mo-yeon asks her if it’s hard dating a soldier. Myung-joo admits that Shi-jin and Dae-young have dangerous jobs, but it’s not the job she worries about: She’s more scared of not being with the man she loves.

Shi-jin still has the stone he took from the secluded beach, and he sits tossing it and thinking. Myung-joo finds him and catches the stone, asking why he’s here alone, so he takes the opportunity to ask her a question. HA, it’s the same question Mo-yeon just asked her, which she tells Shi-jin, and complains that they should just talk to each other. That’s what I’m sayin’.

She teases him that she’s going to keep his stone, but backs up right into Dae-young. He stops her from escaping and asks if she’s still mad at him (for leaving when she invited him to do what he wanted with her), and she snaps that she is. Shi-jin smirks, assuming that she asked Dae-young for sex, but Myung-joo says she just wanted him to hold her hand. Yeah, right.

But Shi-jin agrees with her that Dae-young is an idjit, not taking advantage of his opportunities when they come. They both walk away, grumbling about how dense Dae-young is, leaving him unsure who to glare at. (And I love that Myung-joo manages to flounce, even in her army fatigues.)

Mo-yeon and the nurses are happy to see the men’s morning shirtless jogging routine is back to normal. Nurse Min-ji pretends that Shi-jin is coming just to yank Mo-yeon’s chain, and she panic-flails so hard she runs right into the jogging soldiers. Hee.

In her eagerness to run away from Shi-jin, Mo-yeon just runs right under the window where he’s watching her, amused. She yells at him as if it’s all his fault people are teasing her, and he stops her from escaping again.

He asks why she’s avoiding him ever since he confessed, even though he knows how she feels now. He tells her not to be embarrassed that he knows she likes him, because he still likes her more. He leans out the window, putting his face very close to hers, and saying that she looks pretty today. Mo-yeon can’t hide her pleased little smile.

Mo-yeon and Shi-jin drive back to base together after attending a UN meeting, and Mo-yeon notes that it was a lot more fun than she expected. When Shi-jin says that humor is necessary since they only meet during emergencies, she comments that he’s the same way.

Shi-jin asks Mo-yeon how many boyfriends she’s had, but before she can answer, one of their tires rolls over a land mine and they run off the road. Shi-jin stays in the truck, throwing rocks until he detonates another mine, and he guesses that they’re in the middle of a mine field.

Of course her phone and his walkie-talkie are also out of service, so Shi-jin decides they’ll have to walk out of the area. He tells Mo-yeon to step exactly where he steps, promising he won’t let her die.

Carefully probing the ground before each steps, Shi-jin tells Mo-yeon that the movies are wrong — if you step on a land mine, it explodes, there’s no way to avoid it. He finds one mine and marks it with a flag, and continues that they just have to go slow. He tells her to relax, and invites her to enjoy the sexy view, since he’s bent over looking for mines.

Mo-yeon does just that, and says that this must be that time when joking gives him courage (Shi-jin: “The joke was me telling you to relax, the rest is fact.” HAHA). They move their way slowly through the mine field, until finally they get out and Mo-yeon collapses in relief.

She complains that it feels like her life is always in danger, and she’s even ruined two cars now. Shi-jin agrees, joking that he wants their relationship to be a melodrama but it always ends up an action film. “You’ve ruined two cars, so now let’s ruin your lipstick.” WHOA NOW.

But dammit, he just wants it to make a sign warning people about the mine field. After he puts the sign up, Mo-yeon draws a quick skull and crossbones for anyone who can’t read English, and ha, takes the opportunity to freshen her lipstick while she’s at it.

They start to walk back to base, which Shi-jin figures will take all night. He offers to walk holding hands if Mo-yeon is bored, but she’s still pretending that confession recording wasn’t her, and Shi-jin whines that she’s totally different after a crisis than during one.

Mo-yeon asks Shi-jin to tell the truth — he’s dated a lot, right? He says women always ask that, and there’s no good way to answer. If he says yes, they get mad, and if he says no they think he’s lying. Mo-yeon wants to know exactly who gets mad, and Shi-jin is all Oh look a truck!

They hitch a ride in the back of a farmer’s truck, where Mo-yeon thanks Shi-jin for saving her life yet again. He replies sincerely that he felt safer with her watching his back, which, awww.

He tells Mo-yeon that he heard about her asking Myung-joo if her boyfriend’s job bothered her — he still wants to know what the answer was. Mo-yeon tells the truth, that Myung-joo said being apart from him was worse, and Shi-jin asks, “What about us? Will we part soon?”

You can see the worry on his face when he asks if Mo-yeon plans to go back to Korea the next day, but she says she’s not. He asks why, since it can’t be because of him, but Mo-yeon surprises him: “It is. I’m staying because of you. I want to spend more time with you.”

Mo-yeon has a little fun while Shi-jin is shocked silent, and says that she thinks she just confessed. “Should I apologize?” Shi-jin asks what she thinks his answer is, but he doesn’t give her a chance to answer, just yanks her forward to kiss her. This time she kisses him back, and when Shi-jin pulls away to look for her reaction, it’s Mo-yeon who goes in for a second kiss.

They kiss the whole ride back to base then go adorably awkward when they arrive, Shi-jin weirdly saluting Mo-yeon with both of them covered in hay. HAHA. Sang-hyun and Ja-ae see them and Sang-hyun grins, aware of exactly what they were up to in the back of that truck.

Late that night, Young-soo tries to sneak out of the power plant ruins, but he’s joined by Argus and his men. He tells Argus that the diamonds are in his backpack, though it doesn’t make them happy that the lock on his safe is broken and he had to bring the whole thing.

Argus points out that he’s still twenty-seven hours late, and when Young-soo claims it’s only because of the earthquake, Argus is prepared to shoot him anyway. Young-soo begs for his life, and Argus growls at him, “Just do what I tell you.” Young-soo agrees, but Argus is furious when they get back to their hideout and find that the safe is empty.

Young-soo shows up at the Medicube complaining of neck pain, and insists on being put on the plane to Seoul for an MRI. He’s trying to escape Argus and I don’t blame him, but his imperious demanding attitude doesn’t win him any favors with Myung-joo or Ja-ae.

He works himself into a lather, so Dae-young grabs him by the collar and yanks him outside for a chat. When Young-soo bows up at him too, Dae-young asks exactly how hurt he’d like to be, if he wants to be a patient that badly. Young-soo backs right down and actually apologizes.

He turns to see Chi-hoon behind Dae-young, and Chi-hoon asks in a timid voice if he really wants to go back to Korea. So the next day when the people returning get on the bus to the airport, Young-soo is with them, having accepted Chi-hoon’s offer of his own seat.

We see in flashback that Young-soo knows exactly where the missing diamonds are — he swallowed them, then closed the safe and smashed the lock. But what’s worse is that nobody can find Chi-hoon, and they recall that he’s been acting strange for the last few days.

Sang-hyun eventually finds Chi-hoon in a storage room, and he asks why Chi-hoon decided to stay. He jokingly asks if it’s because his fiancee gained weight, but it fails to lift Chi-hoon from his funk.

Sang-hyun grows serious and asks what happened between Chi-hoon and Min-jae, knowing that this is the real issue. Chi-hoon says he’ll tell him later, that asking for help makes him feel like he’s running away from his problems even more. He insists he can take care of himself, but he looks as if he’s about to break.

Young-soo spots some of Argus’s guys at the airport looking for him and hides, missing his plane in the process. They report back that he didn’t make his plane, so they’ve set some traps with the police chief.

Argus swears he’ll take Young-soo apart when he sees him next, then instructs them to send the red rose that he prepared to someone named Colonel Amang. Frighteningly, the “red rose” appears to be a young girl.

Focusing through his gun’s telescope with impressive fierceness, Shi-jin watches… Mo-yeon washing up. That would be cute if he weren’t aiming a gun at her face. Thankfully Dae-young points out this fact, and Shi-jin seems embarrassed to have been caught peeping.

Myung-joo’s father, Lieutenant General Yoon, plans to visit the base the next afternoon, putting everyone on the alert. Shi-jin swears they won’t do anything special for his arrival, just scrub the base to a brilliant shine — you know, like they always do.

But the commander’s plans are altered at the last minute and his trip to the base is canceled. Instead, Shi-jin and Mo-yeon are called to Command Central, along with Dae-young and Myung-joo. Uh oh, that sounds ominous.

The soldiers greet Lieutenant General Yoon formally, then he asks for an office for a short personal reason. He calls in Dae-young, Myung-joo, Shi-jin and Mo-yeon, and it’s cute how Mo-yeon is the odd one out, not being a soldier and having no clue how to act around the commander.

He commends her for her actions during the Abu Dhabi prince’s medical emergency, and Shi-jin looks adorably proud when the commander also comments on Mo-yeon’s beauty. She excuses herself, leaving the other three in the office.

Lieutenant General Yoon also commends them for their efforts during the earthquake rescue, asking if they were hurt, then says that he’ll now speak as Myung-joo’s father. Dropping all formality, he asks Shi-jin if he’s his ally or his enemy — is he really not interested in his daughter?

Shi-jin says truthfully that Myung-joo is only a highly-respected friend, and though he’s disappointed, the commander accepts his answer. That leaves the commander alone with Dae-young and Myung-joo, and he asks his daughter if she still cares for Dae-young. She readily admits that she does, so he asks Dae-young the same question. Myung-joo tries to intervene but Dae-young quickly says, “Yes, sir,” and she’s struck speechless.

The commander says to Dae-young that he though he was going to back down on this, but this time Myung-joo does interrupt. She tells her father that she doesn’t care what Dae-young says, she won’t give up on him. Dae-young gently removes her hand from his arm, but then he twines his fingers in hers, and says to her father, “I will hold onto this hand.”

Lieutenant General Yoon asks if he thinks he’s capable of doing that, and Dae-young responds that even if he’s transferred, he won’t let go. Her father sends her out of the room, and though she’s reluctant to go, Dae-young whispers to her not to worry.

Once they’re alone, Myung-joo’s father says that he’s only had two goals in his military career: to become an honorable commander, and to earn the respect of his daughter, who’s also a soldier. But now he feels as though he’s failed both goals. His command to Dae-young to stay away from Myung-joo was an abuse of his power, so his daughter no longer respects him.

He gives Dae-young permission to date Myung-joo, but he won’t have a simple sergeant major as a son-in-law, so if he wants to be with Myung-joo, Dae-young should quit the army and go work for her mother’s company. He’ll be expecting Dae-young’s decision when they return to Korea.

On the trip back to base, Mo-yeon she asks Shi-jin why he and Myung-joo never dated. Shi-jin asks if she’s jealous and calls her over to pump the gas, which frees him up to plant a surprise kiss on her. He challenges her to talk again so he can shut her up again the same way, so of course she does, and he does.

Shi-jin heads inside to pay and catches a tiny thief leaving the store with several boxes of medicine. Mo-yeon realizes that he’s sick with measles, which is highly infectious.

Dae-young tells Myung-joo of her father’s decision, and he offers her a chance to back out now. Myung-joo does a happy dance right there in the sand, which makes Dae-young smile. He reports to her as his senior officer that he’s been ordered to date her, throwing her a salute and a goofy grin.

She runs off to call her dad and Dae-young happily watches her go, but the way his smile falters when she’s out of sight worries me. He didn’t tell her the part where he has to quit the army, did he?

Shi-jin and Mo-yeon take a detour to the sick boy’s village, and Shi-jin radios in for the soldiers to check his GPS coordinates. Their communication is cut off, but the soldiers tell Dae-young that something is off — there’s no town in that area.

They find that quite a few children in the village are ill, but none of the people will answer Shi-jin when he tries to speak to them. Finally one girl speaks in English — it’s the “red rose,” and she tells Mo-yeon that they don’t get food for three days if they speak to strangers. But she doesn’t care anymore, so Mo-yeon asks if they can bring all the sick children here.

Rose tells them that dying is better than living here — the boys are forced to join a gang, and the girls sold to a pimp. Today, it’s her turn. She offers to help them, in return for their help getting her out of here.

Back at the base, Daniel tells Dae-young that the village is called the Haunted Village. It’s populated by war orphans and controlled by the local gangs. The village moves often, and the children are sold to sex-traffickers.

Dae-young calls Shi-jin to tell him what they found out, and Shi-jin sees Argus driving towards the town. He tells Dae-young to hurry there, but Argus has already seen their car. Mo-yeon approaches him to ask if he’s the children’s guardian, and asks if she can take the sick children to the Medicube.

Shi-jin skids to a stop between them, shielding Mo-yeon from Argus, refusing his offer to shake hands. Mo-yeon asks who this is, and Shi-jin answers, “It’s Private Ryan.”

Argus sizes up the situation and concludes that he has the advantage, but suddenly a shot rings out and Argus goes down, shot in the side. It’s Rose, who’s stolen a gun, and she runs to Shi-jin’s side and hands her gun to him, saying that they have to leave now.

Argus’s man has his own gun aimed at Shi-jin, and tells Mo-yeon to help Argus. Rose cries to just kill him while Argus reminds Mo-yeon that she took an oath as a doctor, but she’s frozen with indecision.

But when Argus tries to shoot Rose himself, Mo-yeon decides that she won’t help him live. Saving his life could cause the deaths of more people in the long run. But Shi-jin disagrees and tells her to help him — she’s a doctor, and it’s her job to save lives.

“If we have to kill someone, I will do my job.”

COMMENTS

That’s a pretty good cliffhanger to leave us on, as it circles back around to the one thing that Shi-jin and Mo-yeon disagree on – when to save a life, and when to take one. It’s interesting to see Mo-yeon’s values adjust to her surroundings, as now she’s the one who thinks it’s better to let one man die if it would save the lives of those he may (will) kill later on. Now that she’s seen exactly why Shi-jin is willing to sometimes kill, I’ll bet if they had the conversation now that they had in Episode 2, Mo-yeon would be singing a different tune. And I also love that Shi-jin is the one telling her to save Argus’s life, unwilling to let her relax her moral stance, and letting her know that if killing needs to be done, as usual, it’s his job.

But mostly I’m just thrilled that Mo-yeon couldn’t protest her feelings for Shi-jin anymore. Even without the super-public confession, everyone could tell how she felt anyway, including Shi-jin (I don’t believe he would have continued to press her if he thought she genuinely didn’t like him, he’s too respectful of her wishes for that. The times she’s really meant what she said, he gave her the space she wanted). I absolutely understand her hesitation in letting herself fall for him, because she nearly did back in Korea and she got hurt, after only two dates.

So I was glad when Mo-yeon finally got around to asking Myung-joo what it’s like dating a military man, because I’ve been thinking for several weeks that those two ladies need to talk. What Myung-joo said, that she’s more afraid of not being with the man she loves than of his job, was exactly what Mo-yeon needed to hear. Yes, Shi-jin could die at any time, but then so could any of us. There’s no guarantee that having a safer job means he’ll live longer. So I wanted Mo-yeon to realize that finding a strong love, even if it only lasts a short time, it better than no love at all. I think we were all ready for her to stop running from Shi-jin and start running towards him.

Lastly, I’m very worried about Chi-hoon, because he really feels as though he’s hanging onto sanity by a fingernail at this point. He’s just wracked with guilt over leaving Min-jae when the building threatened to collapse, and it doesn’t help that Min-jae needles him every chance he gets. I’m not surprised that Chi-hoon gave up his seat on the plane back home – he can barely face his fellow doctors here in Uruk, much less his family and the entire hospital back in Korea. I just hope he’s not thinking of doing something drastic to himself. (And again it’s worth mentioning, Onew is just really amazing in this role. I’m so impressed.)

But holy moley guys, how about that truck-bed kiss?? I think that may rank right up there with my favorite drama kisses of all time. It was so perfect – the scenery, the sunset, Mo-yeon’s confession and her enthusiastic participation, Shi-jin’s expression like every wish he ever had just came true. There just aren’t words to say how giddy that kiss made me, but who needs words? It was perfection.

the hay was a perfect touch to the scene-- it's the little cute moments of comic relief that make me appreciate the drama even more ahah... the implications-- were they rolling around in the back of the truck? (eye emoji)

I agree that it was great when she put her arms around him and initiated. Wish there was more of that in k-dramaland.

I also loved how she responded. I've never liked the "dead fish" response to a kiss that a lot of the kdrama heroines do. give me something...a hand twitch, a blink...anything! Now, I'm going back to watch that scene.

I not only loved that she kissed him back, I actually LOVED HOW she kissed him back: there was something in the way she wrapped her arms around his neck, and something about the way she "abandoned herself to the kiss," as if she was saying, "I finally give in. I am done fighting, and YES, I do love you too."
I don't know if I read too much into her behavior at that time, however that was how it looked like to me.

Also, Thank you for the recap, once again! We finally got it, our confession from MY, and 4 kisses in one ep. alone. That is the number of total kisses in some kdramas. I really loved how the aftermath of the “on-air” confession was handled, with MY being embarrassed (for a day or so), denied confessing in front of SJ, while still working through her fears and hesitation about dating a soldier. I also loved that SJ continued to feel concerned about the same thing: how to make MY get over her fears of dating someone whose job involved constant danger, and more chances of dying than (dare I say), the average person?

So I did love it that MY went to MJ with her concerns, and that she took her opinion to heart. It was nice to see both women converse in that way, and the outcome be a positive one. I also loved that SJ stayed true to character, in that he was serious (once again), when he asked MY (in the truck), if they were going to be separated, “was she leaving to go back to Korea?” Once MY felt confident that she was willing and ready to take a step forward with SJ, she clearly let him know, and we all know what happened after that. At first, I didn’t get the “wink wink” at the audience about the hay on the back of their heads and clothes when they got back to the base. Once I realized what that meant, I thought that was a creative and clever way to let the audience know that those kisses went on for a while, and positions were changed, LOL! I also loved that Dr. Song and Nurse JA had different thoughts when they saw MY and SJ. Nurse JA thought MY would be embarrassed (if someone saw her with the hay on her back), and Dr. Song was happy for SJ, because as he put it, “he must have been really happy earlier.”

I so agree with your thoughts on the kiss! Best kiss ever I'm dramaland for me. From the reaction to the lines..everything was perfect! And I love how finally the girl makes the second move!!! So awesome! Gosh I wish they dated in real life.

I'm still recovering from the longing look of Shi Jin after he suddendly and passionately kiss her right after she confessed. Like part of him respect her and become hesitant after being impulsive. And part of him want was unsure she even kissed back. I just love that moment lots.
And then Mo Yeon grabbed her hand around him. And he did same. Not awkwardly at all. It looks real!!!
What a lovely kiss scene!!!!
What an OTP!!!!!

Of all Kdramas, this is the best kiss that I've ever seen... I love the way Mo-Yeon confessed her feelings after everyone had heard her "dying message" then she even made a second kiss with hug...

Finally our lead couple is in the same boat. how long have we waited for this.

However the last scene was my best for this episode. When SJ told MY to let Private Ryan live and if there is a need to kill someone, he will do his job. Oh my this on its own killed me. It goes to show how much SJ cares about MY and the fact that MY did not want to save Private Ryan was partly because of SJ. You guys will recall that SJ told MY that he is now regretting saving Private Ryan and to MY meant that Private Ryan is now a bad man hence her resistance in saving him.

Private Ryan, am going to use this name because its more funnier than Argus, i think he is going to save SJ somewhere as a payback for saving him when they were working together, even though this time around there are on different sides.

The second lead couple,wow..........that is all i can say for now

…that kiss scene though!

Thank you for the recap :)

My complaints, then my compliments:

I’m not really finding the villain to be all that intimidating. Or maybe I should say that I have a hard time taking him seriously. I think it stems from not really knowing his motivation/end goal. It seems a little shallow for it to just end with money, (although that certainly could be the case). While I’d give my kingdom for a plot, and this guy seems to be the big conflict, I actually get annoyed during all the scenes of him threatening various people (who then have to beg in English haha).

I’m always internally thinking, “We get it, you’re oh-so-evil. Now can we get back to a scene that doesn’t involve characters I have zero investment in begging for their lives?” I think I’m just holding out for something a little more clever and/or high stakes.

Also, the last scene where he reveals his evilness and then demands “Save me! You took an oath!” I seriously snorted. It’s almost as if someone gave him the script, so he knew all about MY’s internal conflict and character arc. Seriously?

That being said, I actually really loved that scene’s existence because of the juxtaposition the writers put between MY and SJ earlier on: the sanctity of life ALWAYS vs. the greater good sometimes outweighing that sanctity. In this scene I think MY, who before saw their positions as so different as to necessitate a break-up, finally understood what SJ’s position was. On the flip-side, I love that SJ wanted to protect her role as a keeper of life (well, love in a “you idiot! Just let him die” kind of way).

Basically, I’m really excited that characters are evolving on this point and that we are seeing some growth.

Okay, last point: the romance! I’m loving that it’s reciprocated openly now and I’m adoring the use of humor by the writers. In these types of stories it’s so easy to get caught up in the grand narrative of it all, and I love that we get one of those sweeping shots of them kissing immediately undercut by the hay in their hair. A less skilled writer wouldn’t have had the confidence or creativity to poke humor at their own love story. It was highlight of the episode for me. :)

Some questions for people to weigh in on, if they like: How are you finding the villain/main conflict? Did you feel like MY’s epiphany of “maybe I should let him die” too sudden? After all, she’s touted the idea that people’s lives are valuable no matter what for so long…(I myself am mixed on this point). Also is anyone else loving the directions this romance is going?????

I loved that she thought maybe I should let him die because even I thought the same thing. She's a woman and she's just heard this 15 year old girl talk about their life in the haunted village. I didn't think it was too soon. It was perfect. And I KNEW argus was going to throw the Hippocratic oath at her because I was watching it with my boyfriend(who keeps saying eww k dramas but has somehow watched every episode of DOTS with me) and he yelled "you took an oath woman". So everybody's reaction felt real to me.
As for the villain, I like that he's not some high stakes guy, if you watch the next episode( SORRY, a bit of a spoiler) when SJ's commander informs him that they have to ignore argus because Americans want to arm the rebels to overthrow their present government using guns that they're going to smuggle through argus, it all made the moral dilemmas through out the drama come out. They're having to ignore this argus with his sex trafficking and arms smuggling for what they perceive as a greater good. Idk if you understood anything I typed but it all worked in my head.

Haha fair enough, I guess I'm just not clever enough to think of guilt tripping a doctor with Hippocratic oath :) I'm glad to hear your perspective, it made me feel a little less critical of the writing.

Haha and don't worry, I understood what you meant!

1) Agreed - I find the main conflict with the villain, Argus, somewhat weak. More than the actual arc itself, I have problems with the actor who plays him. I just can't take him seriously enough.

2) I would have like a bit more buildup re MY's change in ideals when she wanted to let Angus die, but it's certainly not an abrupt or unexpected change - I felt she was heading that way as soon as she made the decision to remain in Urk, and to view SJ's occupation from a different perspective. Perhaps, in the moment, it could have been developed better, for sure.

3) Loving the romance! *swoons*

As for her being willing to let someone die, I find that to be strange, because that's a situation she would have had to face in the hospital too. In the hospital, doctors have to treat everyone who comes in, from gangsters to child abusers to death row inmates. It's not just "good" people who need medical treatment.

It's different because in the hospital, you know they're going to go to jail or something. But out there during the war, she knew he would not be facing any consequences for his actions. These are totally different situations.

Not necessarily. Not everyone who goes to a hospital ends up getting convicted of a crime. The hospital is not a courthouse. Even if a doctor sees some evidence that someone committed a crime, they ultimately still have to be found guilty beyond reasonable doubt by a jury. That's not an easy hurdle.

0

Yeah but how often does a doctor know the criminal history of a patient? And honestly how often do you treat the leader of a sex-trafficking gang? And then right after meeting his victims? In a 3rd world country with nobody to protect them? Plus she has experienced all this trauma recently, so her perspective has slowly been changing.

Just doesn't seem especially far-fetched given the circumstances.

The villain isn't good. I'm also not really sure what the main conflict is...? I'm here for the kisses. But yeah, maybe the guy needs a backstory so we know why he did a total 180. I hope there is someone bigger, or some other story out there and not just him.

And randomly, I wish the villain spoke Korean so I don't have to listen to slightly awkward English acting. SJK and SHK are doing well, but they still are better in their native language.

I don't see MY wanting to let the villain die at this moment as an indicator of her values changing, because we will only know if that is true IF she let him die. That is when the true feelings would come out. A good example of this is CH who left the worker in a life and death situation but afterwards greatly regretted his actions. The same could happen with MY, she saw how sick all the children were in the village and how indifferent the villain was to that situation, not mentioning what the girl was saying. Thus the decision of letting that man die was probably done in the heat of the situation similar to CH. This means she could be regretting that decision the rest of her life, which is why SJ didn’t let her do that. As for the villain he is self-centered and would have done anything to save his life. If you looked at his actions, he first tries to move their conscience but when that doesn’t work he starts threatening by going after his gun. I can’t say much about him as we only saw glimpses of him, but he probably will become more interesting in the future episodes when we get his backstory.

I actually agree with you. The whole evil village thing I actually think is unnecessary. It is a very weak part of this drama and they could have found plenty of other issues in the same setting to keep us busy for another 6 episodes.

I also think she jumped to not wanting to save him a bit quickly from where she was just a few episodes. I love what he told her in terms of I'll do the killing but it didn't totally work for me.

My biggest issue is once their attraction reignited in Urk, there really wasn't enough conflict to keep them apart and that part has seemed weak and contrived and made some viewers be anti on SHK (go back and read the comments from epi 3 to whatever). They really never even got to know each other in Korea before it was over so it is just now that the romance is totally working for me. Epi 9 and 10 have been very strong with both sets of relationships.

I always thought that was the point, that she didn't really know him them and didn't like his job at all. She dumped him before it started because he kept flaking on her as well. When they met again, she came to understand him more and after careful consideration learned that loving him now is better than worrying about losing him.

The romance wasn't really supposed to work until now imo. They are just getting started. I know people were anti-MY for not giving in or dumping him, but it always made sense to me that she didn't. If she did, I'd worry she was just a girl looking for a quick holiday romance with a handsome man (nothing wrong with that, but that's not her)

Thank you for the recap!

This was a really fun episode, I’m really happy that both couples have come together, acknowledged their feelings, but does this mean that we are not going to see anymore back story? Like how DY and SJ met? The tension between MY and MJ because of a guy from the past (and I hope hope hope that guy is Yoo Ah In, but it probably isn’tL) It was such a fun part of the story, that I hope they didn’t just gloss over it and leave us hanging. They probably had to cut it out or something and I know that we are over half way through the drama now, and now is the time to really get the story to the main focus with the villains and main characters, but the back story is also an integral part of the drama right? Does anyone else feel this way?

P.S. I would do anything just to be Kang Mo Yeon in this episode, she’s seriously one lucky girl

And this drama is going by way too fast! I normally don’t like it when dramas are more than 16 episodes long, but this needs to be 20!

One more thing! That scene when Song Joong Ki was by the window in the morning with his hand on his cheek totally reminded me of him when he was in Sungkyunkwan Scandal, major swooning happening right now!

I found this episode so charming and funny and I love that every character doesn't fill like a filler and I know this is just a summary but there were just little things that made me laugh out loud. Like when they went to see the commander and he asks them to sit down and the doctor was just like "oh thanks" while the rest of the soldiers were like "we'll stand" when she wanted to sit so bad. I laughed.
Also doctor sang is so funny. I love his scenes and I love that he's the one who noticed onew's mood and tried to talk to him about it. Everyone on this show is just a doer. No one is sitting around waiting to be loved or dragged by the wrist. All the women are doers! Strong female character for the mother effing win!!

I felt that the kisses (especially the 2nd kiss) at the gas station were not smooth. I thought the intent was nice, and how they were inserted/written in was nice, but the execution was not smooth. I can't help but wonder if it had to do with how they had to position themselves, their bodies and their heads. The positions might have felt awkward for them, maybe. Of course, I'm speculating here.

Also, I felt that the second kiss (which was a lip press), went on for longer than it needed to be, since they were just standing there, pressing their lips. It might have been better if it had been a quick "lip press" in this instance, like the first one. Just my thoughts.

Episode 9 is such a fan service episode! not only with the ShiJin-Moyeon couple but also with Daeyoung-MyungJu. Were finally getting somewhere with Daeyoung and MyungJu. Way to go captain dad! And MyungJu's reaction when DaeYoung was telling her, that her dad finally let them date.

I like how ShiJin took a few seconds to process MoYeon's direct confession at the truck. He didn't jumped her at the first chance he got. He was still respectful of their boundaries and is only willing to go as far as MoYeon will. Oh! and their awkward interaction after. Its so cuttteeeeee!

I don't like how ShiJin used his sniper gun to stalk MoYeon, somehow its still creepy.

and I maybe the only one who thinks this way, but Song JoongKi is an awkward kisser like Lee Min Ho. I just finished watching innocent man for Song Joonki, and my oh my, he has too many kissing scenes their and he looks so awkward. Oh well that's just my opinion. He's still a charmer and a smooth talker and I'm still a fan

I think SJK tries too hard with his kisses lol. I remember his Nice Guy ones and it felt like he was eating MCW's face (and not in a good way). Though I think it fit SJ's mood there. He was rough and desperate. The second kiss that SHK led was better to me.

lmaoo the nice guy kisses felt in-character though? maybe i'm used to seeing/more appreciative of more aggressive kissing, but kang maru was jaded and a gigolo and like all of the backstory made it believable that he would be so aggressive and face-eating-like. (is that a thing?)

though i do agree, SHK's second kiss was the one i really enjoyed. something about her wrapping her arms around his neck made me really happy

or maybe its the truck movement. I don't know. I'm pretty sure its hard to pull-off a nice kiss while standing let alone in a moving truck on a bumpy road. Hehe. ALso, the kisssing scene at the gas station looks out of place. I didn't know the writer is so willing to give us another kissing scene after the truck on just one sitting. But all the same, still flails and squeals.

@lemondoodle, are you talking about their first kissing scene in Japan? because even when he finally fell for Eun Gi and he was giving her a sincere kiss towards the end, it still felt awkward. I don't know, maybe Kang Maru is just trying to be gentle with her or something. I think Kang Maru's kisses towards Han Jae Hee is understandably desperate and forced.

Lol this is the first time knowing someone has issues with SJK's kiss scenes :o

It's interesting. Personally, I don't think he's awkward at all or too aggressive like LMH. Just remembering that Heirs closet kiss makes me cringe so bad. Never liked his kiss scenes with PMY either. Maybe it's because she's so tiny, but he seemed to be devouring her D:

I liked Innocent Man's kiss scenes though xD when Maru was genuine ofc

Ackk the closet scene at the Heirs. It was really disturbing. Maybe its just the pairing or the scene.

I for one really enjoyed that scene. I thought Captain did exceptionally well. He showed a bit of aggressiveness at first only because he's been "thinking about doing it a thousand times" but then he backs off a bit so as to not alarm MY so much. And he lets her make the next move. Which she did. And I'm so happy she did cause I'd have jumped off that bench and into his lap! Hmmm. On second thought maybe that's how the hay got on their backs....

LMH's kiss in Heirs is the worst one I've seen! Still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!

I think SJK's kisses just fine. He kisses almost the same way in both Nice Guy and here. Though it'll be nice to see more lip movement between him and the female lead. MCW in Nice Guy just stood there and... do nothing!

The best kisser that comes to my mind has gotta be Eric! *red face*

Best hugger: Nobody hugs like Park Hae Jin in Cheese. So much love and warmth and poignant loneliness it makes me want to cry.

@YY omg im with you on that. nobody hugs like park hae jin T____T sunbaeeee

0

I liked Eric's kisses in Que Sera Sera and Park hae Jn's kiss in Cheese in the Trap (the one on the bench)

0

Someone who I think is a good kisser is Park Yoochun. I didn't watch I Miss You, however I loved his kisses in SKKS (especially the elevator kiss. It wasn't a deep kiss, and yet it looked very sensual), Rooftop Prince, and in The Girl Who Sees Smells (especially the one in ep. 8). PYC doesn't "jump" on the girl, and he seems to me to "be reading" the actress/girl while he is kissing her. I often get the sense that he is being sentive to how far she wants to take it, and when she is ready to stop. The ending of his kisses do not feel abrupt (or look abrupt) to me. He usually starts slow, and then he increases the intensity, if necessary.
How is that for an analysis of kisses? :-)

0

My money goes to Kim Soo Hyun. Hands down, he can pull a good kiss with any of his leading ladies anywhere. Even on a bus window with Suzy whose as awkward as Park Shin Hye. He even pulled a drunk one with Cha Tae Yun in Producer. ahahahahha.

I will not be surprise if DOTS breaks the ratings of The Moon embraces the sun's soon.

0

I know I'm late.. but for me the best kisser in drama land is SEO IN GUK!!
Reply 1997, high school king, I remember you
Omg!! All of that kiss hahaha

0

Sung Joon, Seo In Guk and Park Ji Sung are all enjoyable to watch haha. but I've seen SJ kiss the most, alas the dramas i actually saw the latter two in, didnt involve much kissing. the reply 97 kisses were niiiice tho. but I feel like Eunji deserves credit for it as well. I was meh at Kim Soo Hyun;s kissing in YWCFTS and the one in Dream High was just ok. tbh it was obv the nature of the direction tho, like making them more chaste or awk than needed. (ofc Suzy is v awk in DH but that was her first drama tbf) but he planted a pretty solid one on Jun Ji Hyun in The Thieves. (i didnt see Producer or Architecture 101. but i heard he kisses in those?)
man Queen In Hyun Man's lead kissed like a champion hahaha. but Trot Lovers was yikes blech.....man its hard to tell when its really the actor or the terrible direction/writing/closed offness of the actresses. altho considering how slut-shamey that SK can be i dont super blame them for being extra awk on their ends.
I only saw PSH in CITT and YWCFTS and I honest to god forgot he was in the latter XD but I liked his kisses in CITT. they were sweet and gentle. i guess those are my fave types in the end.

(not in the mirror of the witch tho cuz eeeeeek)

0

Best hugger: Park Hae Jin in CIIT, Lee Seung Gi in K2H (I lived for his hugs, they were better than the kisses imo)

Best kisser: Kim Soo Hyun (but I'm biased since he's my fav actor lol), but overall I think most actors are doing fine, it's just the actresses that bother me most of the time. Though ngl, I'm hard to please since I also dont like kisses where they're eating each other up or kisses that feel too technical, e.g. like they're choreographed (and the kisses in DOTS are like that to me)
That's why my most favorite kisses had to be between Park Bo Young and Jo Jung Suk in OMG. They not only looked good but felt so darn real from both parties!

The narrative of this episode had two different "parts"-- at least it felt that way to me... the first 40-50 minutes gave off such a lighthearted feel, it made me giddy and I enjoyed the romance a bit too much. How much do I love that SJK is playing Shijin? Wayyyy too much. All the kisses were-- ugh, perf. When we transitioned back into the dangerous aspect of the show, my mind was still in the back of the truck lmao...
and regarding the oath-- I too, did see it coming a mile away; it makes sense that they would use Argus to confront Moyeon's save lives dilemma, as they used Argus as example of Shijin's regret in his way of dealing with lives as well. I can't say I have no issue with this villain, but it's decent enough considering the rest of the aspects of this show that make it so addicting and feel-good.

SHK is really owning this drama. To me, this drama is really becoming the Dr. Kang Mo Yeon show. I love how she's gradually being changed by her circumstances...she's getting back in touch with her surgical roots, she's being challenged by the war zone on her traditional notions of morality, she's learning how to take a risk with Si Jin, she's showing her leadership abilities. I love it!

The Si Jin character, on the other hand, is very flat and one dimensional to me. Badass, cool hero. Shows up and points a gun at someone while saying something badass in choppy English. Repeat 20000 times. It's boring.

I totally agree (though I do like SJ a l ot). I think her character is a lot more interesting and developed than SJ, even if SJ is a lot more flashy and gets the attention. SJ has been the same the whole drama. Not that he's not enjoyable, but it's SHK who is doing all the heavy lifting with her character. SJ says lovely things, flashes a smile, jokes, acts bad ass... there's not much else there.

0

Required fields are marked *

true. i'm really used to anti heros in my dramas now that whenever there is a tried and true hero, it comes across as flat and one-dimensional-- i think shijin does have flaws though they're masked by the slickness of the drama and the weight of the romance... all of his decisions have turned out to be the right ones and i guess that doesn't give room for him to learn from a mistake that is life changing (except for perhaps saving argus back in the day) and that limits his character development... his development at this point centers around his relationship with moyeon, but even that isn't much so far? not gonna lie, i'm distracted by/enjoying their romance a lot right now though, it's got me on cloud nine

Yes! I am happy that SHK is finally getting some recognition for her portrayal of MY. When the casting news first came out and during the first few episodes of the drama, people kept complaining about how bland of an actress SHK is and how it would've been better if they had casted a different actress for the role. I actually have no major issues over her acting and even appreciate the subtle vibe she gives off. This episode was great. I freaking love Mo-yeon. I know people praise SJK (and I will too), but I seriously think SHK is killing it here. She shows a lot of range. One of my favorite scenes were her being awkward and not knowing what to do when around by all the people in the military. It was so cute.

I also love that after Mo-yeon got over her embarrassment she just went for it. I still appreciate the thoughtful way she considered him. She was warming up to him last episode. She just needed a push in the form of public embarrassment. :p SJ broke my heart a little on the truck since he was really quite shocked she was staying for him. Despite all the bluster I do think he was seriously getting worn down by the rejections. I'm glad she accepted him. Now go be happy forever.

And finally, the kiss/rolling in the hay thing was the best thing I'd seen in a while.

Line of the episode for me, bar none:

SJ: "Don't be embarrassed you got caught confessing your true feelings, because I'll always like(=love) you more (than you love me)."

A remarkable statement, all the while looking like they were role-playing a gender-swapped Rapunzel, or whichever fairytale where the heroine's daydreaming at the window.

It's not just that he was considerate of her embarrassment. He means what he said, and I just love that he doesn't hold back how he feels about her, that the depth of his feelings isn't based on whether they're reciprocated. He likes to flirt and tease her but he doesn't play mind games. Can't tell you how refreshing that is.

These sneaky producers!! I was blushing and curling my fingers at the "ruining lipstick" comment in the teasers, only to have them...painting on signboards.

As usual, a slow first ep of the week, with the action & stakes picking up later..The producers really need to improve on the action scenes - whether it is cars careening wildly out of control, or a fist fight- the sequences are over far too soon for the viewer to get a feel of the terror/adrenaline.

Did I mention I love Moyeon's bratty, stubborn side? She is so cute when she's all flustered like that, even Yoo Shijin can't help smiling goofily and letting her have her way..

It was high time that the Myungjoo x Daeyoung limbo was solved - and that session with the Commander was the best way. She, being the unfortunate collateral, was hurt and angry in this 'mutual understanding' between the men. It is evident that both men respect one another, because each cares unconditionally for Myungjoo.

I really like these characters - but 9 episodes in, and I don't know if it's a good or bad thing, I'm curious to know more about them as people, when they are not living the high-stakes- conflict -zone life. I want to know what Dr. Kang Moyeon does outside being a doctor, how Capt. Yoo Shijin is when he's not being wildly flirtatious or acting macho, or how Sgt. Seo spends his time alone..

but I found MJ-DY's conflict is interesting. they probably have been together for so long, yet they have big hurdle to overcome. I think their story alone would be still good if someone wrote a new drama with them as the main casts.

Just wanted to say I love reading everyone's comments!!! I'm the only kdrama watcher in my community ( that I know of). Everyone thinks I'm nuts--- because the only Korean in me is all the kimchi and japchae I eat!!

just enjoying SJK in this sooo so much. Well enjoying all the pretty in this. All of it really. I'm riding the high of them finally kissing!!!
But--This is a hypothetical question -- (this is the second show that I haven't waited until it's finished before binge watching and I really really can't handle sad endings or open endings (CITT was my first) and I'm finally getting to the question, sorry, what are the chances that this will end super sad?!?!?!?!

I mean I've actually been psyching myself out and trying to prepare myself for the sadness. They are in a war torn county with terrorists. And SJ & DY are both super cool bad a**es that would, I feel, give there lives for those they care for. Anyway I look at it. I feel like someone's gonna die--- or does this writer aways have to have a happy ending?!?!
And obviously I apologize if this isn't where I should post this type of question. thank you!!

I also get the feeling that a mein character will die. My bet is that there will be an Earnest Bot ranting for Seargent Seo. I can see his dilemma of being forced to leave the military, the only thing he has known and excelled in since leaving the life of being in a gang leader, in order to be with his love of his life as being resolved not by his choice to choose love over duty and service but rather by his death in the 15th episode. But as soon as the Commander told him to leave the military and work for MJ's morher's company if he wants to marry his daughter, I thought the writer is going to kill off the DY character.

@major D

I can see that happening too--but then again if any of them die then what would be the point of going through what they are going through now to just DIE... I know all the characters have to go through changes/growth, but honestly I watch kdrama's for the fluffy fun of it-- and I do not ever do WAR type of anything (WAR movies= death for a main character most of the time, which is too too sad for me) but I couldn't resist SJK and now I'm invested in these characters (all the characters except the cheesy villian & manager) that I would be super sad if any of them died.

See, I think the opposite. 2nd OTP is going through hell right now because they'll be happy soon. It's SJ/MY who need to watch out since they are way too happy, and they need a final "test" so to say.

I actually think MJ would never accept dating him if she knew he had to leave the job he loved.

Argus and his cohorts deserve to die, and painfully. there is should be no mercy for people who abuse and TRAFFIC children. CHILDREN! like nope, kill him now. why make her save his life and shi jin knows full well he's gonna have to shoot argus to death later. he already made it clear he wanted to earlier and regretted saving his worthless life to begin with. gaaaaah.
I was SO giddy over the kisses and romance. then really mad at papa yoon for his fuckery. i KNEW there would be a catch what a jerk. like its not like he's a chaebol what is HIS DEAL?
that said my feelings at the end were just digust and fury. i just rly sensitive about this. i was pretty chill during the factory collapse arc (not that it wasnt sad) but now im liek NOPE NOOOOPE. either those guys end up drowning in a pool of their own blood or i will feel very cross at this drama.
Glad taht Mo Yeon was ready to let his ass die. Also the girl they had playing "red rose" (eww) was p good! there are cringey moments in this drama but tbh, this is the least cringy i've ever felt watching a kdrama that deals with lots of english and or foreigners. (still giggling at how no one at the base could apparently tell the "american" journalist was australian.)
in conclusion: poor Dae Young, he's such a decent guy he doesnt deserve this drama and BS in his life. (not surprised he didnt tell MJ, he clearly didnt want to burden her with taht knowledge, knowing she would feel guilty af and prob rail at her dad over it. as she should! and i suspect Dae is not gonna be able to quit, at least not without alot of internal struggle tbh)

When KMY finally admitted she was staying for YSJ I screamed finally!!! It has been 9 grueling episodes but I am glad she isn't running away. I am amazed she could hold out this long!! TBH I am glad she didn't give in right away though. I love that she had her own convictions and she didn't immediately have that love conquers all mentality. It's refreshing to see.

Wow, the comedic timing was great. The dramatic run for the phone, the suave drop out the window, her panicked flailing, her running towards the window and the comedic timing of the 4 leads. I love love love the hay. The gossiping trio soldiers were funny. I always wondered how the leads had so much alone time to romance each other, and maybe the soldiers were quietly around listening...

I remember reading somewhere that kissing someone in a k drama, you're not supposed to touch them with your hands, hence the awkward lips only kissing. So the fact that MY wrapped her arms around YS in the truck and went for it means something big in Korean drama culture, I think.

I'm a bit tired of Chi Hoon's self angst. It's been 4 episodes so far? It's got to move along.

I like the progression of the other storylines.

One thing that's odd. They lost cell/walkie talkie reception in the jeep in the minefield, right? But in the next episode SD gets reception on his walkie talkie when he's in the same spot with MJ.

Things about this episode:
- THAT KISS SCENE. Thank the drama gods that MY actually participated actively in it and didn't just sit there with her arms hanging limply by the side. And that hay on their backs? Pure genius.

- MJ's little dance on the spot when DY told her about her father allowing them to date. She is SO adorable! And you can see DY's happy little smiles at her dancing on the spot. I love it. I LOVE IT.

- I thought it was a big development for MY to decide that she didn't have to save Argus, because it feels to me like she's able to see the bigger picture now. Back in Seoul in a cushy hospital, the only situations she's probably had to face would be patients who paid for a hospital stay and needed treatment. Now she's faced with the possibility of having to save someone who is potentially a murderer of a great many more people for his own greed. And I'm glad she said no. However, I don't understand Sijin's opinion on the matter. Anybody can shed light on this? I remember he did say that he regretted saving Argus.

- Especially since Sijin knows he's probably going to have to try to end Argus sometime in the future.

- And I just have to say when MY ran away from brushing her teeth in the morning only to end up below a window... which had SJ hanging out of it... well. So. Cute.

- All in all this episode really satisfied the fluffy cravings in me because the past few episodes have been rather heartwrenching. I figure it's going to be so in the next few episodes, what with children trafficking and all... but... more kisses and smiley Joongki, please?

I love the minefield scene. How the writer literally transposed into physical danger what ShiJin and MoYeon is going through inside. Usually after both sides confesses, they have to traverse through a minefield of emotions that could explode anytime. Having ShiJin and MoYeon deal with it literally gives them enough push to take their relationship into next level.

Can I just said that I am happy?
The things about this drama is I always feel happy more than anything after watching it.
There'a a problem and I symphatize with them but the pleasant feeling always overthrown every thing.
Part of it becauase I don't have many complaint and I understand what the show want to tell me.
One of my favorite part is the window conversation that also include 2nd couple, it's cute.

For the arm dealer conflict, he need to get save so he can get prosecuted, death doesn't solve every thing.
And Onew did good, when every one teasing MY in meeting, he is the only one that didn't give any response.

Here's the article I'd read about k drama kisses:

https://randomsoju.wordpress.com/k-drama/20-things-newbies-need-to-know-about-korean-dramas/

Also, I remember a reviewer on another episode asking why there were so many comments on the girls' beauty. I think that MY and JS are obviously ferociously competent in their chosen fields, and because being pretty/handsome is so useless in their fields (unless you want to sleep with the chairman, I guess), whether they are pretty/handsome doesn't matter to them and isn't such a big deal for them - but it's just something nice to have someone you like say to you, making you blush. So calling her pretty is just his way of flirting and appreciating her.

Because although JS comments on MY's looks a lot, what struck him when he first met her was her fierce and smart attitude. If he wanted straight looks, there are other pretty girls...

I'm cool with SJ calling her pretty, but I didn't like the Lieutenant General doing it. I'm just not sure that's something you should say to someone you don't know in a professional setting. Okay, I know you shouldn't say that type of thing. Why is being pretty relevant to the job she did. He could have left it at praise for her job, not her looks.

And SJ obviously doesn't just mean her face is pretty.

Thank you recaper, well done indeed...?

SJK, it is you the strongest ever male Korean actor who very well know how to kiss and pulling off line so naturally like you were born for it....

Sometimes, I feel like male K-actors knows how to kiss but do not know how to make a kiss scene works.... But you my dearest Joong Ki yaaa, is the Master.... I think the female version of you would be Yoon Eun Hye, though ??

I can not believe we're at ep 9 already.... what a roller coaster ride.... now, how can we stop?

Hi there, peeps.... or should I say, DOTS-troopers? ;)

About eps.9. I've read some comments above regarding Argus. IMO, those guys in spec-ops are usually facing limited options when they quit their military carreer. They don't have the requirements to join in professional field, and usually don't have that much of asset to support them to open business. Spec-ops is basically awfully different than regulars, it's secretive and often times you can't even being recognized as corpsman of a certain country. It is widely talked in many American writings. So, I get why Argus choose his path. If you watched ep.10 already, you'll find a convo between SDY , YSJ about retirement. The thing is, sometimes a man can grow tired to serve in good manner and intentions when what you get in return is a denial and your country will left you behind should you're captured or fail in an ops.
So, I totally can see how Argus ended up like that. IDK if we're going to learn something more about him in the future. I hope he won't live too long anymore after this eps. He's a sicko...

Then, about THE KISS... hahaha.. I can only say I enjoy the truck kiss a lot. We Asians never really fully engorge in public skinship. So, it's hard to expect hot kisses or a very intimate scenes. But this one works for me. Because KMY is participating, I couldn't agree more. And yup, what a touch of the hay in their backs. Hahaha..
And the kisses in the gas station, I have to say I like it. Of the two, it's always YSJ that takes initiative on skinship and touches. And I couldn't see contra reason on kissing your girlfriend because she's jealous or grumpy :). That is stress-touches, you share with your beloved ones to show attention and maintaining closeness.. :)

I'm also highlighting the hippocratic oath. It's a very basic self conflict for KMY, and i'm glad YSJ is always supportive of her. (remember when he pushed the triage in the hospital, the bleeding patient?). I guess that's one of the many reason I like this drama, YSJ views on KMY aren't damsel in distress thing. He loves her for being capable and independent. And he's so worthed..

The next point is about LCH. Gosh.. I can't stand it anymore. It's not the acting, I just hate how Min Jae is treating him. MJ is a very bad man, you have no sense of sympathy like at all.. not even after some old man sacrificed himself to keep you save by giving you his helmet. And LCH is definitely a doctor with bright future, why should he low himself on a person who can't appreciate your skill? You've proven time to time you can do your work, so why bother with this silly Kang Min Jae?

And as for Daddy General, ippeo in Korean doesn't always mean 'pretty'. It's sometimes can also be referring on 'cute'. And I think it's compliment because he vies KMY as his daughter's colleague and seniors. Nothing I out of place because he said it in a warm manner.. :)

Can't wait for ep.10 recap. There'll be...

Epi 9 is fan service, isn't it? ;) The romance stories has become better and i am a shipper for second couple (but I also wish SJK will not die at the end and have a happy ending)

Anyway, I feel a little bad for SJK's character. His character is not really challenging and so far not really growing.
But one good thing for sure, SJK has got so many attention and he is everywhere nowadays. ;) and thank God JG & KJW also got many attention nowadays. I am happy for three of them.

What an eventful episode! So far, the writer is doing a good job of effectively blending in the humorous and serious moments together.

By the way, is it me or does it looked like Si Jin's right arm was in a cast in the commander's office?

Both SHK and SJK deserves equal amount of recognition for their performance on this Drama.. it's sad that a lot of viewers noticed and praised SJK's portrayal without acknowledging those of SHK. Both of them (all actors even) are doing well.. (though I understand the craze the "SJK Syndrome" as what some fans are calling it... he's a good actor and handsome at that... plus the way he looks at you... plus his smile...captivating haha lol).

One problem (not really problem, but I'm kinda disturbed) I have on this drama is the way they converse in English... their delivery (except those of Argus since he's an American actor) it's flat... it's as if they are just reading/narrating the lines without emotions... it's getting into me.. but beside that so far all is well.

TBH, the only thing that I love is about their romance and no triangle involves. All of casts including KJW & JG also do a good job and they portray their character nicely.

I personally think SJK got the recognition not solely because of his character but more on his charm as YSJ. Every girls are crazy on him right now and suffering SJK Syndrome. He is a phenomenal now.

If the recognition based on character I will say SHK's character is developing more than SJK and other characters.

All actors on this drama are doing well.. their portrayal are on point . and SJK as what you’ve said is quite charming (both SJK the actor and YSJ the character)… I get all the crazed his getting but sometimes I feel it’s unfair for SHK… but I don’t begrudge those swooning as I’m swooning myself.. lol (It’s just that I’m one of those fangirls who’s more into the actress than the actors… hehe)

That's true, but I do think more and more people are recognizing MY/SHK now. SJ still makes me swoon, but I really appreciate MY's character and her growth. SHK is really solid and reliable and while she doesn't get as many flashy scenes, (she did get some in ep 10), she's always there keeping it together.

She does deserve more credit though. I never once got the feeling that SJK is the headliner and SHK was just his love interest. They are equally important in the drama.

I agree that on some points there seemed to be KMY outshines YSJ. But I don't think it's the lack of the acting or the writing. It's more like KMY is shining because YSJ didn't overshadows her. And it's really refreshing, because in some past dramas, they're holding solely to actor's charm.
As for progress, I do really think YSJ can't grow much in upcoming episodes. Again, it's not that it's lack of the acting or writing. It's just since ep.1, YSJ has been clearly opened like a book. No layers, no secrets, no past, no fear, no trauma. His character is the bold one and straightforward. So we don't have to play mind games on him. I like him for that.

I also still reeling on the mine field scene. The music background giving sense like they're dancing, and KMY now following YSJ to lead their relationship. That's what I caught from watching the scene. And I totally, amicably, definitely, solely, absolutely drowning in the scene.. drooling and squeeing...

I like this episode. It's a love story afterall, so I won't expect anything more.

I really miss the KMY at the earlier episodes. She's awesome. I don't hate her feeling unfamiliar with the whole army thing, but the tiniest part of me just hope she could adapt quickly to the situation she's currently in (for example, when she is about to leave the room after talking with General Yoon. I hope she just leave without doing anything ....like a kid lol) I still like her though..but girl...please act properly haha.

I love the bonding between KMY and MJ. They were once in a bad term(?), but now they team up. Nice ladies. I don't want to see another scene with MY and other girls' pulling each other's hair .

I always love the bromance between SJ and DY, and the friendship between SJ and MJ. Those three are always cute together.

Enjoyed the recap and entertained by the comments on here! Keep it up, guys! :)

What a fun, fluffy and thrilling follow up episode from last week's epic cliffhanger! Movement for both couples but most especially for SJ-MY pair.

Loved that MY was finally ready to admit her feelings and jump into a relationship with SJ, but on her own terms. She willingly confessed and not soon after the very public broadcast but after she took things into further consideration, even asking MJ about it.

Loved all the kisses that we got, the hay kiss especially when MY initiated the second one (none of those timid fishlips versions). And I also loved their "minefield" date which was such a contrast to their previous mine interaction, when MY just arrived at the base. In this episode, you can see how trusting they were of each other and how comfortable. The glances and the touches. Those were sweet as well.

I also like how thoughtful the writing is for this drama. That by the end of this episode, you are reminded of their previous cafe discussion about how MY was scoffing at SJ's occupation with regards to taking lives. Here she gets a much closer look into what he really does and how things can get complicated. Suddenly it's not all black and white and you might even be put in a position to choose whom to save and let go.
