One More Happy Ending: Episode 6
by LollyPip
You can only deny your feelings for so long before it starts to get painful, and something’s got to give. Whether it’s realizing that Prince Charming may not be as charming as he seemed, or admitting that you’re falling in love with the wrong (or is it right?) person, eventually someone has to make the first move. If the fairy tale is going to end in a happily ever after, sometimes things just need to get complicated.
EPISODE 6 RECAP
Mi-mo lies in a glass casket on a bed of flowers like a Joseon Sleeping Beauty, but suddenly her eyes pop open. She complains about her Prince being late while she does yoga to ease the stiffness from laying down so long, but when she hears hoofbeats approaching, she jumps back in her casket and closes her eyes.
She peeks at her Prince, approving of his looks, and pops up happily at his chaste little kiss. They both admit that they stopped somewhere else on the way here, but now they’re ready to live happily ever after.
Mi-mo hesitates when her Prince’s steed turns out to be a tiny fluffy pony, though he insists that everyone loves this horse. Besides, German horses are way too expensive to maintain — do you know what it costs just to change their saddle? HAHA. Mi-mo grumbles a little to discover that he doesn’t have a fine castle either, but she starts to take his hand anyway… and a voice cries out, “WAIT!”
Another prince rides up, this time on a large fine horse, and he seems to know Mi-mo already. He’s upset that they spent such a hot night together and now she’s about to run off with another man. She claims not to remember any such thing until he produces a scrap of her clothing with a note on it, “You are mine,” and signed with a picture of a goldfish. Snerk.
The first Prince grows angry, disbelieving her claim not to remember this other man and calling her the kind of woman he hates most — the kind who play two men off each other. Cue horrified gasps.
Back in the real world, Soo-hyuk feels terrible as he drives a wet and shivering Mi-mo home. She’s lost in her thoughts too, remembering how Yeon-soo told her (quite kindly) that she will always be the one who loves more in her relationship with Hae-joon.
Meanwhile Hae-joon heads to Mi-mo’s place, and on the way he listens to a radio advice DJ talk about how hard it is for a man and woman to only be friends. So often, one of them has a change of heart, and it complicates matters. He remembers Soo-hyuk’s bizarre behavior when he crashed their recent date, but shakes off his worries.
But when he sees Soo-hyuk escorting Mi-mo home from what should have been Hae-joon’s date with her, he realizes that it’s true. Soo-hyuk has feelings for Mi-mo. Mi-mo looks thrilled to see Hae-joon, but he and Soo-hyuk exchange knowing looks — things are about to get complicated.
Soo-hyuk tries to play it cool, and says that they just ran into each other, but Hae-joon comments that that seems to happen a lot. He pointedly replaces Soo-hyuk’s coat with his own on her shoulders, and leads her to her place himself. Things are awkward while they have coffee, and he asks what’s in the bag she’s carrying.
Mi-mo says it’s just old memories, but admits they aren’t good ones when he pushes. It bothers Hae-joon that she doesn’t want to tell him about it, but Mi-mo is hurt that he doesn’t even ask how she’s feeling when she’s a disheveled, sneezing mess. She rightly points out that he even gave her his coat, but didn’t notice that she’s not well.
He blinks at her — ouch, he really didn’t notice. She asks why it’s so hard to get him to notice her, and when he finally asks what happened, she doesn’t want to talk about it. As nicely as she can, she asks Hae-joon to leave. He’s hurt, but he goes.
Soo-hyuk is frustrated at the night’s events, and has a weird little vision of tiny winged Mi-mos flying around shooting hand-hearts at him. A pretty one tells him to choose love over friendship, and he flails at them to go away.
Mi-mo watches her phone for a message from Hae-joon, but instead she gets a visit from Soo-hyuk, who got dressed again to go buy her some cold medicine. He checks her for a fever and tells her to dress warmly for bed. Aww, you gotta love the guy, he bought every kind of medicine there is.
She thanks him in the elevator the next morning, admitting that it was especially nice considering the night she was having. He notices her downcast expression, but doesn’t comment. Hae-joon still hasn’t contacted her, and she resists the urge to call him first.
Mi-mo and Soo-hyuk both get calls from their old elementary school about an invitation for a time capsule opening ceremony. They were their class representatives, so they’re invited to be presenters, and they both accept.
Hae-joon gets cornered by Stalker Girl again, and ugh, her grandfather owns the hospital. She’s convinced it makes her more attractive to him, but he just pretends he didn’t hear her. When she starts ranting about Mi-mo, asking how he could be attracted to such an old woman (!!!), he tells her that she lacks one important thing: maturity.
Yeon-soo comes to ask Hae-joon if Mi-mo has mentioned anything to him, and he looks genuinely alarmed at the idea that they may have talked about him. Yeon-soo decides to come clean about the whole thing.
At a staff meeting Soo-hyuk maintains that nothing else interesting happened that day at the hotel, but Ah-ni interrupts — that’s not what she’s heard. She says that she can do more research, and the story is handed over to her.
Oven Guy visits Dong-mi at work and brings her a gift of a pink scarf. He asks her to always wear it, because her neck always looks cold. She swoons at his thoughtfulness, but Mi-mo’s narration tells us that he’s much more interested in her generous teacher’s retirement pay. I knew there was something fishy about him.
Soo-hyuk confronts Ah-ni, asking why she’s so interested in his story and telling her that none of the witnesses will talk. She says there’s another witness, but refuses to tell him who it is.
Mi-mo interviews another potential client, a single father with a ten-year-old son, and he asks if she knows any other single fathers. She says that she does, but calls him immature, which the client seems to find strange. He says that when he had his son, he was completely lost, because back then there wasn’t anyone for single fathers to go to for help.
As he describes his struggles we see Soo-hyuk and little Min-woo going through the same things; tearful nights, trips to the emergency room, and having to pretend he doesn’t notice people staring at him. But seeing his baby smile at him made it all worth it.
The client tells Mi-mo that anyone who went through that couldn’t possibly be immature. She seems a bit stunned, just now realizing what it means for Soo-hyuk to have raised his son alone.
Da-jung tucks her son into bed, then braces herself to talk to Geun-hak. She nervously asks him for a hug, probably for the first time in years, and waits hopefully. Geun-hak scoffs, asking if she expects this to make him happy after seven years of rejection. She says she must have gone crazy for a moment and leaves, and Geun-hak’s knees go out when she leaves the room. Da-jung just stands and cries.
Mi-mo calls Dong-mi to cry over Hae-joon, and Dong-mi tells her that when she made the first move with Hae-joon, she tipped the balance which made him back off. Mi-mo bursts into tears, asks when Dong-mi became the teacher, and hangs up. Awww. But she notices that Hae-joon’s been calling while she was on the phone, and freaks out. He calls again, and she runs out to talk with him.
We go back to Hae-joon and Yeon-soo’s conversation, where he’d been angry with her, saying that Mi-mo probably misunderstood her. It’s not her decision to make, whether or not he and Mi-mo suit each other.
Mi-mo finally shows up and Hae-joon admits he’s been out here for three hours, waiting for her to answer his calls. Mi-mo admits that confessing first has made her feel insecure, and that she’s been assigning meaning to his words that she’s not sure are true.
Hae-joon gives her a pair of fluffy earmuffs with wings on them, and he puts them on her, telling her not to listen to words that aren’t there. He tucks her hand into his pocket for warmth, but she finds something in there, and pulls out a handful of her cards from when she was an Angel.
Hae-joon admits that he was her biggest fan, and that he’s had these cards for thirteen years. He admits that he actually cried when the Angels disbanded, because he thought he’d never see her again, until she came to his ER, “wearing something other than wings,” hee.
He says that he’s thankful she confessed to him, because she’s precious to him, and she thanks him for reassuring her. He hugs her, then finally leans in to kiss her… and Mi-mo remembers that she was eating dried squid just a few minutes ago. She hastily kisses Hae-joon on the cheek, and grabs him in a super awkward hug. Then she rushes home to brush her teeth forever, and assures herself that he’ll kiss her next time.
Dong-mi looks at an expensive watch as a possible gift for Oven Guy (who’s name is actually Poong-nam), but she boggles at the price tag. Another woman casually waves a credit card to buy the watch, and suddenly Dong-mi decides she wants it, and she spends her entire savings to buy it.
Ah-ni asks questions at the hotel restaurant, threatening to write whatever she wants if nobody will talk to her. But Soo-hyuk has followed her and yanks her aside, and he admits that he did cover something up but for a good reason. He asks Ah-ni to please drop this, and she nails it — there’s something going on with him and the woman who created the disturbance.
Soo-hyuk just says that the woman will be in a bad situation if she prints this, but Ah-ni makes a good point, that they aren’t in this business to be nice. She’ll find the truth and decide for herself if the story should be written.
Mi-mo and Da-jung discuss a client who, it turns out, has a lot of undisclosed debt. Mi-mo just thinks they should tell the woman they matched him with, and that love will take care of the rest. Oh, you innocent thing.
She meets Hae-joon for dinner, and when he excuses himself to the restroom, he gets a text reminding him of his due loan payment. Mi-mo doesn’t mean to see it, but she does, and when he comes back and makes a quiet comment about loan sharks, she starts to worry.
She asks if Hae-joon is in debt, and only gets a vague answer in response. Hae-joon claims that it’s just student loans from medical school, but then he starts to talk about big, huge loans and loan sharks — he’s just winding her up though Mi-mo doesn’t catch on. He asks if she’d dump him for being in debt, and Mi-mo looks nervous.
She’s convinced he’s in some trouble, but she says the same thing to herself, that love is worth it. But Hae-joon continues to tease her, texting her that working women are sexy and saying to make a lot of money, and it just reinforces her anxiety.
Dong-mi gives Poong-nam the pricy watch, and when he gets a call, he says he’ll take it outside since he might have to yell. When he gets back she asks if everything is okay, but he just says it’s something he has to deal with a lot. This dude is definitely shady.
Min-woo visits Mi-mo at work, having found the business card she gave to his dad. He gives her his entire little savings and asks her to find his dad a nice woman, which just makes my tummy twist. Mi-mo says that she doesn’t think his dad wants to meet anyone, but Min-woo insists that he’s lying.
So Mi-mo agrees to help, and asks for some hints about the kind of woman Soo-hyuk likes. Min-woo repeats that he’s not looking for a mother for himself, but a good woman to love his dad. She should be pretty, sexy, and smart. Mi-mo tries to give his money back, but Min-woo insists on paying. Okay, can I keep him?
Min-woo goes home and asks Soo-hyuk to help with his volunteering job the next day. But when it’s time, Soo-hyuk gets an emergency call from work, and calls Min-woo to tell him he can’t make it.
Mi-mo brings some photos of potential prospects for Min-woo to look at, but he asks if there isn’t anyone who hasn’t had obvious plastic surgery. Mi-mo says that he’s young and idealistic, but it’s hard to find natural beauties these days, so he settles for women who’ve had their eyes and nose done, but no more. He’s so serious, I just want to cuddle him.
Mi-mo offers to go with him to his volunteering, where she’s recognized by some of the fathers. But Min-woo’s teacher is there, the one he tried to fix Soo-hyuk up with, and she aggressively says that parents are supposed to bring the kids, not their girlfriends. She promises to make Mi-mo’s day as difficult as possible, and loads her up with what looks like her weight in briquettes.
Min-woo fusses at Mi-mo for taking selcas to brag about volunteering, saying that his dad’s friend hates women like that. She correctly guesses that the friend’s last name is Gu, figuring it must be Hae-joon.
Soo-hyuk’s lead turns out to be a dead end and he runs to help Min-woo, and finds him and Mi-mo taking a break. He watches them joking and laughing for a minute, completely taken by the sight of Mi-mo with his son.
Ah-ni meets with Hae-joon and asks him if he knows Mi-mo, wondering if he’s familiar with her as a former idol. He’s wary when she asks if he knows that Soo-hyuk likes Mi-mo, telling her that they’re just old friends. But Ah-ni insists that Soo-yuk likes Mi-mo as more than friends, and Hae-joon’s eyes turn cold.
He warns her not to jump to conclusions: “That person is mine.” Ah-ni is surprised to learn that Hae-joon is dating her, and worries that she just made things awkward. Hae-joon says it won’t be because of him, but Ah-ni isn’t so sure of herself.
Soo-hyuk joins in the volunteering, impressed with how hard Mi-mo is working and helping her out when she’s not looking. At one point she trips and falls into his arms, and both seem aware that there’s something between them.
Later Mi-mo overhears some dads gossiping about Soo-hyuk, calling him a womaniser in college and talking about how he got a girl pregnant. She approaches them, calling them lazy and pathetic, and chases them away. She gives the worst gossiper the largest carrier for the briquettes, and loads him up until he can barely walk. I love her.
By the time they’re finished, Mi-mo is limping slightly on the ankle she turned, and Soo-hyuk is upset that she kept working after hurting herself. He yells at her, and on the drive home she can’t stop thinking about what those awful fathers said about him.
Hae-joon waits for Mi-mo to get home and thinks about his talk with Ah-ni. She’d asked him what he would do if his best friend did have feelings for Mi-mo — would he be able to give her up? So again, he’s in the parking garage when Soo-hyuk brings Mi-mo home, and seeing Soo-hyuk sweep Mi-mo up in a princess carry is about all he can stand. He nearly follows them upstairs, but something stops him.
Soo-hyuk carries Mi-mo all the way to her apartment and to her couch, gently removes her shoes, and tells her to wait here or he’ll be angry. He comes back with water to soak her injured ankle, and every time Mi-mo starts to object, he quiets her with a firm but gentle look. How is that so sexy??
Mi-mo thanks Soo-yuk, and he thanks her in turn for going with Min-woo today. She asks if he’s going to their school ceremony, and muses that those memories will fade away someday. Soo-hyuk is in a deep, thoughtful mood, and he simply says that they could remain. Mi-mo tells him that they’ve both changed since then, thinking how strange it is that the ten-year-old boy she knew then is now a father. “It must have been hard. How did you endure it?”
She says softly that she wouldn’t have been able to do such a good job, and reaches out to pat Soo-hyuk’s head. He looks like he’s about to cry, and he reaches up to grab her hand, asking her not to touch him. “It makes me want to hold you,” he whispers. He doesn’t let go of her hand while he looks at her with the most earnest expression, it hurts my heart, but before either of them can move, Min-woo comes back in and the spell is broken.
At work the next morning, Hyun-gi is excited to tell Soo-hyuk that the woman who made a scene at Seul-ah’s engagement was none other than her old idol groupmate, Han Mi-mo. Ah-ni has already written the article and is just waiting for approval to publish it. Soo-hyuk runs inside, alarmed.
He slams Ah-ni’s laptop shut, reminding her that this is against their moral code not to harm innocent people. He yells that Mi-mo will be hurt if this article is published, but Ah-ni fires back that someone is always hurt. Why is this one so important? Does he like Han Mi-mo?
Soo-hyuk is too honest to deny it, and he dares Ah-ni to release the article if she wants to find out for herself how angry he can get. He adds that the person who needs to know how he feels isn’t her, and he walks out.
Next thing you know, he’s at the hospital standing in front of Hae-joon. He says he’s sorry, and Hae-joon tells him not to do this then — not to get between him and Mi-mo. Soo-hyuk says he’s sorry again, but he has to get involved.
“I’m sorry. I have to do it.”
COMMENTS
Finally, all the cards are out on the table. I hate when everyone knows that everyone knows, but nobody will say it out loud, so I appreciate that Soo-hyuk is being honest with himself and with his friend. I think that if there was any possible way for him to step aside and let Hae-joon and Mi-mo date in peace, he would. But I also think that he knows himself, and his best friend, well enough to know that getting into this battle is worth it. Hae-joon has problems with intimacy, Mi-mo is already feeling unhappy, and Soo-hyuk is already deeply in love with her. Better to both make their case, and let the lady choose.
Mi-mo may be a flighty thing emotionally, but I just love her honesty. She has no problem saying how she feels, and I loved that she was open with Hae-joon about how it made her feel when he didn’t even notice her condition when Soo-hyuk brought her home. He was so preoccupied with staking his claim, even taking off Soo-hyuk’s coat and giving her his own, that he didn’t even notice the reason she needed the coat in the first place. That’s pretty bad, and I respect that Mi-mo told him, though gently, that it hurt her feelings. If nothing else, you never have to wonder where you stand with her.
And I have to say, I still don’t like how Hae-joon treats Mi-mo. I do think he manipulates her, playing little games just to maneuver her around for his amusement, like deliberately not kissing her just to see her squirm (and we know from his little smirks during their dates that he knows it bothers her). His joking around about being in debt isn’t funny either, because it’s not funny if the person you’re joking with is taking it seriously. If she got the joke and played along, that’s one thing… but Hae-joon knows that Mi-mo thought he was being serious, and that it upset her, and yet he continued doing it. That’s not flirty or funny or cute, it’s just mean. And I don’t even think he truly likes Mi-mo for herself, because goodness knows he never bothers to find out anything about her as a person. I think he’s just flattered that his idol-crush is interested in him, but the fact that he’s keeping her at arm’s length says to me that he’s not really interested in her, not in the same way that Soo-hyuk is.
As childish as Soo-hyuk can be at times, I’m glad we got to see him raising his son, being the loving and responsible father that he is. It showed us a side of him that makes him a lot more sympathetic, and it’s understandable that someone who gave up their own life to raise a child alone would be a little stuck, emotionally, at the age when they had to make that choice. Soo-hyuk isn’t truly immature, he’s just inexperienced, and he’s just now learning what it feels like to fall in love as an adult. I’m happy that Mi-mo got to look at him from that point of view as well, and maybe now she’ll see him not as the young boy she knew, but a man who genuinely cares about her and wants to take care of her. And knowing Min-woo as the smart, self-confident young man he is, is just the icing on the cake. Soo-hyuk did a good job there.
So I’m glad to see him stepping up his game at just the right time, and actually doing things for Mi-mo that don’t involve horning in on her dates with Hae-joon. If he wants be a real contender, he needs to make Mi-mo see him as the caring, loving, thoughtful man that he is — the same qualities that make him a wonderful father, will make him a dream of a partner. Mi-mo is already unhappy with Hae-joon’s inability (or is it unwillingness?) to notice her needs, so Soo-hyuk’s strength will be in his desire to notice absolutely everything that Mi-mo needs, and make sure it happens. Little things like bringing her cold medicine and doctoring her injured ankle mean so much more when you think about the face that Soo-hyuk noticed something was off, took the time to figure out what was wrong, and just went and did what was necessary without wanting or expecting praise. For someone like Mi-mo, who tends to run off half-cocked and ignore her own needs, being a quiet, constant presence is the perfect way for Soo-hyuk to get under her skin.
Not that he hasn’t already. I think that, if Mi-mo weren’t so blinded by Hae-joon’s pretty face and perfection on paper, she’d see that Soo-hyuk is already becoming very important to her. Everything reminds her of him, and she thinks about him a lot more than she lets on. All Soo-hyuk needs to do now is just give her a little nudge, let her know how he feels, and he’s got this in the bag. Come on dude, you can do this, I believe in you!

Aww, I loved this episode, I did. Soo Hyuk's son, Min Woo, really made this week. His scenes with Mimo were so precious. That earnest dignity, gosh and then that totally adorable scene with Mimo after their volunteering. He's such a gorgeous kid. The episode also sets it up entirely, to show us flashbacks of when he was a little baby and Soo Hyuk is struggling as an inexperienced father.
I found that quite moving. Neither mothers or fathers come with natural innate programming - there is a lot of learning, sharing of info about many practical things about how to care for a child. That scene of the Soo Hyuk trying to bathe his baby while reading the book - that cracked me up. It's so true - like you need the manual as you're doing it.
This episode also really showed why Soo Hyuk is a far better match for Mimo than Hae Joon. She may be flighty in some ways and tries to give her all, and doesn't stop enough to take care of herself. I'm all for homegirl learning some self-care and reflection, but it's clear Soo Hyuk can give her the attention and be perhaps, provide a more grounded relationship. Her dynamic with Hae Joon, on the other hand, is still so based on idealisations and the niceties of dating, while not actually moving forward in really relating.
And I also have to say - that little scene between Da Jung and her husband - it was really painful. The worst thing is when one party finally gives a small overture, and the other, rightfully, is still hurt and angry and all the walls go up again.

Da Jung and her hubby...hmmm...what did she expect??? I know she's pretty scared right now, and her life is in crisis because of her breast cancer, but it's pretty selfish of her to be asking hubby for a hug to console herself, when she's all but denied him closeness or intimacy for the past seven years.
I hate to say it, but she's taken him for granted, she had no idea what her coldness did to him. I like Dong Mi's honesty in telling her friend to appreciate her husband.
I like Hae joon's ex. She's really nice and you can see she's rooting for Mi Mo's and Hae Joon's relationship by being honest, but not sabotaging.

I'm not sure Haejoon's ex is rooting for Mimo and Haejoon, but she certainly seems sympathetic to Mimo, or at least non-hostile, which is amazing enough as it is. I hate it when we get women fighting over a man, or, even in the absence of a rival, a woman abandoning her principles just to snag a guy.
I agree completely about Dajung. While I don't care for the "you hurt my pride" part of her husband's argument, the fact remains that she rejected him over and over for seven years.

I think there's probably a bit more to Da Jung than just her being cold to her husband. While most certainly from his point of view this may be what it seems, after trying so very hard to please everyone by having a child and then finally accomplishing that, it could be that she found it to be so overwhelming that it consumed her and left her too exhausted and spent to do anything else. If this was the case, the better way to handle it would have been to work it through with her husband, rather than leaving him in the dark to assume that she was no longer interested in him, but it might be another reason for the dynamic that's in play now. She obviously knows that going to him was risky, it took a lot of courage to ask, highlighting all the more what a huge step asking for his affection was.

I want Da Jung and her husband to fall in love again soooo badly. He still loves her and when she asked for that hug, I saw a flicker of conflict on his face like he really thought about doing it for a split second. I ship them so hardd!

I completely agree. He definitely still loves her and was shot down so many times she destroyed his desire to be with her. I am really rooting for them. Hopefully they can find the intimacy and love they once had as she goes through her cancer treatment

This exactly, the subtleties in his face just show how conflicted he was. Though i think it was right of him to reject it. Probably make dajung think for once about how selfish she's being.
I hope through this hardship that they can rekindle what they once had for eachother. Its really sad seeing broken relationships like this ):

Haejoon is still being manipulative and withholding.
Ahni is still...why is she still on my screen???
I loved the moment between Soohyuk and Mimo. I loved how she touched his hair (and how that led to the big confession), and how she validated him, being a person who had known him practically all his life. (Now that I think about it, this scene is analogous to the one in Cheese in the Trap, where Jung tells Seol that she's doing a good job of living her life.) It was a lovely, tender scene, except it led right into "It makes me want to hold you" territory, which, squee.

Yes, I loved that moment when she touched his hair and said he'd done well. It made sense in the story - she'd been thinking about him taking care of the baby all those years by himself, and piecing together in her mind, how he grew up from the boy she had known. Sometimes, when I see my grown up friends (whom I've known since I was little) do amazing things- I also get that bit of awe and emotional feeling. For Soo Hyuk - it must have been much needed comfort and validation. If he was even trying not to be in love with her before that - that probably sealed his fate.

I think the fact that she recognized him and the job he had done meant more to him that anything else he could have said or done. I'm sure she is not the first among his circle of friends to notice, but she might very well be the only one to say job well done. No matter how good a friend he is, Hae Joon doesn't seem the type to comment on it. His friend/co-worker Hyuen Ki seems too involved in his own life to notice, and Ah Ni has been to busy chasing him around and only has her own interests at heart.

I agree with this. Soo Hyuk seems to be around people that don't really notice what he's gone through to get where he is. Truthfully, Mi Mo didn't see it until her client talked about his experiences, but I love how it gave her a new perspective. Between that and spending time with Min Woo (who's just the best son ever), she could really appreciate what Soo Hyuk has accomplished as a father. That was a beautifully sweet moment.

Finally he cracks up.
I always love JKH's performance. His expression is priceless. He can go suddenly into mellow after a few scenes of throwing tantrums.
And I know that he is made for romcom. I mean he looks cool at endless love and cruel city. But he's better at fall for innocence and this, one more happy ending, right?
One more romcom after this, please.

I noticed him for the first time in this drama and was really impressed with his acting- not to mention he's adorable! So, I went and watched all of Heartless City, which I have always heard was good but never got around to before. It was amazing! JKH's character is very different than the one here, but he sold it completely. You can tell he's a great actor, because I forgot all about his performance in this drama and only thought about him as the character. Poor Si-Hyun-ah! *tears* T.T

Have you watch his drama with Lee Min Jung Smile you/smile honey that was one of my favourite family drama it had 45 episodes but it was worth it watching it. Jung Kyung Ho was really a great actor and you will probably like him in that drama too it's a romcom family drama :D First saw him in the drama I'm sorry I love you with So Ji Sub i already noticed his acting skill in that drama I don't like his character in their but he did a great job portraying it. Love him in Smile you and his chemistry with Lee Min Jung felt like they're real couple :D I first saw him doing action drama in Time between dog and wolf alongside Lee Junki and Nam Sangmi and that drama is daebak! He is a badass Doctor's son in Heartless City and he was adorable in Falling for Innocence.

i prefer JHK in comedy, but i'm glad he came back and picked HC as his post-MS drama. watch the great gye choon bin, drama special, i think there's a review of JB somewhere in the site.

Thanks LollyPip, that was a fun read!
I'm glad that Ep 6 has upped the ante and got the core of the show on the road. I was getting bored by Soo Hyuk just being childish and getting nowhere. Now there's so much to look forward to. I want to see 'plastic boy' doctor getting into some real action, finding that he has to struggle (unlike any of his past relationships, probably) and then having to decide if Mi Mo's happiness is more important to him than his own.
Ultimately, of course, Mi Mo has to make a choice; (I still like my alternative ending where she chooses neither and goes off happily alone... but I know, ... what kind of rom-com would that be!?) and even if she does not choose the dad per se, how can she not choose the son!!! (I volunteer to adopt Min Woo!) :)

actually Jang Nara kind of almost did the idea of not choosing between two guys in My Love Pattzi, as the ending in that drama could be considered an open ending as it didn't really 100 % detail she picked one guy over another and hinted she could of picked friendship over romance.

We're beginning to be shown cracks in Haejoon's armor. He is definitely more interested in claiming his territory, like a pissing dog, than in Mimo's drenched condition. Mimo isn't adamant in asking him to leave. She needs a hot shower. He could have offered to wait. Next day he tests Mimo with talk about large debts and loan sharks to see how far her love for him goes. I hope that those who hated Soohyuk will see the cracks and stop blaming SH for 'stealing HJ's girl'. Perhaps it's the Korean mentality of "that person is mine" once you start dating that accounts for the hate. But I still hold the writer responsible when he goes for cheap laughs in ep 5 since those moves make SH appear immature and stupid.
With that quiet exchange in his living room, the real Soo Hyuk can come forward, and show us that Prince Charming is more than a great job in a hot body.

Hae joon is an ass! Your girlfriend just told you she's cold so could you excuse her so she can take a hot shower... and you left ? Talk about being clueless! What about getting her some hot soup, or hot tea, or just sticking around and snuggling?
This just confirms that he's a self centered prig who can't see beyond his own needs.

I'm quite pleased at the pacing of the drama -- I don't think there's been a time when I thought it was dragging out too much or getting too slow. Compared to other dramas where they take nearly half of the show's entirety to get the actual crux of the story, six episodes is, in my opinion, not bad at all.
Similarly, I'm really interested in all the relationships in this drama. I'm very curious as to see how Da-jung and Geun-hak's relationship ends up (whether they break up or some how find their way back to each other) as well as how Dong-mi will discover the true nature of her beau Oven guy -- I have no doubt she will find out. I hope that once she does, she'll be able to learn to value and love herself before possibly trying to get into a committed relationship with anyone else.

Thanks for the recap. Even so, there wasn't a single after word about the "other ladies" in the show... Even those few minutes tell better stories than the actual heroine.
Seeing DJ struggle w/her marriage and DM w/ her lonelines and that shady ass*ole already leeching off of her... I feel for those two, those are very tough battles. DJ felt unloved and/or with out an actual emotional support form her husband during the difficult time that is taking care of a baby, she was tired and with the lack of emotional support, no wonder their love died, and now, even if it's late, she wants to save that marriage. And DM, she's such a nice cutie, I love her hair. Perhaps the fact that she wasn't one of the faces of the idol group plus of not having any real romantic conection for so long has -clearly?- undermined her self-esteem, and therefore she accepts any guy that comes around, not seeing the shady behavior... But, even so, you can see that she's a very caring person who longs a conection and does everything she can for that, sadly, she's blinded and hurt by her loneliness that doesn't see the red flags...
And MiMo may be outspoken/frank, but c'mon, she's SO wishy washy, that it is tiresome to see, a wishy-washy Candy in distress disguised as a outspoken woman. Sure, we all can be unsure or confused about our feelings, but MiMo goes and do things that contradicts what she is saying. Like a ragdoll who's goes w/the first one who grab her hand. She maybe verbally "frank", but her actions say otherwise.

@cafe. Plus, I did the research and I wouldn't consider MM wishy-washy... MM knows what she wants and she makes the decisions to get she wants... Just that those decisions don't yield anything near the expected results because she is myopic in her perspective and thinks 1+1 = 2 in love which isn't always the case...
I'll consider it more a form of naïveté than wishy-washy-ness...

In every drama there has to be a second lead witch. I am sorry to see that in this case second lead witch complete with the short hair, of course, is Miss Reporter-nim.
I could excuse her if she was motivated to report on Han Mi Mo due to professional competitiveness. But I draw the line at plain old fashioned jealousy. Now that's just being petty.
Girl, the man already told you "He's just not that into you". Nothing you can do to change that. And this latest stunt will ensure that you lose whatever friendship and professional courtesy that existed between you two.

I first saw him in Cruel City and he was so charismatic with the character then that his acting stuck with me till today. To see him switching 180° to act as befuddled single dad and inexperienced puppy love, that is something. You just can't connect the two characters. And that is a true acting skill.

I'm happy that others have noticed Hea-Joon's manipulation too! I think he only sees her as she was when she was an idol and isn't seeing that she is a much different person now. I'm also glad we saw Mi-Mo and Min Woo bonding, it seemed so natural for them to be so comfortable with each other.
Has anyone else heard that Korean fans are angry with how the story is playing out? I had read on a forum that a lot of fans prefer Hae-Joon to Soo-hyuk, does anyone have any information on this? I would hate for the script to change to accommodate fan service....

What I like most about this drama- aside from Jang Nara and Jung Kyung-ho's amazing chemistry- is the tone. It's not always perfect, but I really enjoy how it can be hilarious and cartoony at one point, and then switch to poignant and realistic in a moment. The director allows there to be some pauses that draw out the emotion or uncertainty of a moment and really lets the stellar acting of the leads shine. It has just enough emotional complexity and depth to put it beyond a standard rom-com in my eyes.

Actually, for a rom com this drama puts on the spotlight some very serious and complicated issues... My heart totally hurt at the ending scene too! The Hae Joon - Soo Hyuk conundrumactually brought about a debate between my hubby and I. He and I think, most people rooting for HJ for MM, are just looking at it from the principle of the thing... according to Hubby... if HJ and SH had that discussion about MM and SH declined to give full disclosure of his emotions thereby giving HJ the go-ahead with MM, he has to let HJ exercise his chance till the end. I still really don't like Soohyuk's behaviour. Firstly, Mimo and other people are mainly feeling pity for him. Just because he raised a son on his own and feels guilty about the death of the mother doesn't give him a right to Mimo. Why should Haejoon be the one to back off when she's already dating him? Haejoon just needs to be more honest with his feelings too and step aside only if he isn't sincere. Relationships aren't decided by one person's feelings so I find it extremely disrespectful for Soohyuk to get involved now when he already said it was okay. There's no consideration for Mimo's feelings.
& I was totally NOT swooning when he was trapping Mimo in his house over a sprained ankle (?). She could handle it on her own and clearly tried to leave many times. Overall, at this point I don't find good chemistry between Mimo and Soohyuk (they just bicker...). & him constantly cock-blocking is bothering me a LOT.

@ng:
I'm sorry but I have to call you out on this interpretation:
(1) They are not pitying Soo-hyuk over his struggles as a father. It was a simple fact that you knew someone went through that kind of journey, and he made it. There's another term for that: "admiration."
(2) The decision of which guy to choose still lies entirely on Mimo. Soo-hyuk just went to Hae-joon to come clean with it. That's better than merely barging in between them, without clear reason. They're both adults, they'll figure it out. "Relationships aren't decided by one person's feelings," you said, but you also added before that whether Soo-hyuk can say how he feels is dependent upong Hae-joon's decision if he likes Mimo sincerely or not. Feelings aren't also decided by relationships, and you can decide whether to quietly go about it or not. What they need here is respect of Mimo's choice eventually.
(3) "She could handle it on her own" is exactly what Hae-joon has bee doing since they started dating, or maybe a lack of care actually. "Trapping" is such a strong word--it's not like he is not allowing her to leave the house. He cares enough about her to insist she stay and get treated FIRST before letting her go. Mimo is independent, yes. But it's part of any growing relationships to accept care, whether you see that person as just a friend or more than that.

The way the other reporter (female) treats Soohyuk when talking with Haejoon came across as filled with too much sympathy. It's true that it sucks what happened to him having to raise the baby alone but I don't see why that makes him any more worthy of Mimo's affection. She's proud of him and feels bad that he had to do it alone but I just don't see how that translates into a romantic feeling.
I also think that in order for Mimo to make an educated decision about who to be with she also should know Soohyuk's feelings but... the problem is, has she ever really given Soohyuk the green light to get involved? She was friendzoning him so hard. & I don't think that part when she tripped on the stairs and he caught her had any indication that "something is there". People are always gonna be a bit uncomfortable being that close to someone. I just don't like the way he handled the discussion with Haejoon and it IS disrespectful to interfere in someone's relationship. Why do girls often use "I have a boyfriend" to turn a guy down...?
He was trapping her. She tried to get up and leave but he kept pushing her down, especially when her phone was ringing. It wasn't touching to me because again, a sprained ankle is not that big of a deal and she said no so many times. If Minwoo didn't come home when he was grabbing her hand do you think she could've left so easily?

@ng. I feel you. I really do. I respect your opinion. My opinion on HJ and SH is quite frankly, about the same as yours ON PRINCIPLE . But since as a viewer, I have the benefit of an omniscient view of how the entire thing has been unfolding, I'd like to give it a more broader perspective than most HJ supporters seem to have about the whole thing.
1. Just because SH was put on the seat by HJ and had to admit on the spur of the moment whether he had feelings for MM and he said 'No' more or less, doesn't invalidate the feelings he has and has always had for her. Lying is a thing. Embarassment lying is a thing. And in-denial lying also is a thing. I dont mind that SH is now being punished for that lie since people seem to be more in favour of HJ and MM being together, but I dont want to be completely written off and ruled out of the running just because in the beginning he was unable to articulate his feelings, esp. If given the opportunity, he will able to right this wrong.
2. The ball is definitely in MM's court, but again looking from an omniscient viewer's perspective once again, MM's dating (and marriage) track record proves that she has a lot of maturing to do regarding this facet of her life. Comparing with Seol in Cheese in the Trap....like some posters have said.... MM lacks introspection. She is frivolus and doesnt think a lot of her decisions through thoroughly. I was surprised to see her worrying about HJ's possible debt situation cos it was obvious she had just been assuming that just cos HJ is a doctor, he has everything going for him. MM is too superficial for me to believe in the decisions she makes for herself, and that includes wanting to be with HJ. That has to change if Im to respect her choice.
3. HJ has the chance to be the man for MM now and what has he done so far. ?. Manipulate and be aloof. I think he needs to show me that he cares more... as opposed to the possessive character he currently seems to have regarding MM. They havent had their first kiss and its not entirely SH's fault either...
HJ had a lot of opportunity on all those movie dates before MM' s drastic stay in and watch a movie move.
In the end, all our characters have a lot of growing up to do. Anf life only ends when you die. More power to HJ and MM'S relationship... but I wont be suprised if it ends up on the rocks like MM'S eleven previous relationships.

Other people are so caught up with some other drama buzz, but this one's my crack. I love all the characters, save for Doctor Whatever and Short-haired Reporter. I hope it gets more interesting in the coming episodes, and that all the four women's lives be explored.
My favorite thing today of course is seeing Soo-hyuk's struggle as a single father, which shot me in the heart. *sobs* And of course, everything from Mimo and Min-woo's coal-volunteering bond to that ankle (confession) scene. It's so ironic how Mimo's boyfriend is a doctor, but a different guy unconditionally takes care of her in her time of need ❤
Fighting, Soo-hyuk! Don't let her get taken away by the paper doll prince charming (not charming at all by the way).

@Jyc... Ikr. I thought the exact same thing... MM's man is the doc...but he didn't even notice she was cold and call it fated justice that her bruised ankle was nursed by the not-a-doctor guy.
I find people don't necessarily question people's motivations when watching dramas. What are all these characters motivations for liking who they like? And are they still gonna be righteous in the long-term... We would all ship better that way if we would just take these things into consideration...

After these last two episodes I finally figured out why I find Soohyuk's character so appealing... Despite being a grown-ass man and a responsible loving father... he is surprisingly pure and naive. He did think that if a girl (Mimo) kissed him first, she shouldn't be hugging others and that's just... well, in my books, that sweet. And in that sense he and Mimo are really well suited for each other. Neither of them are cunning or prone to playing games -- they're sweet and naive and I love them for it.
While Haejoon is just a lifeless doll (and a mean one at that!).

Noticed some remarks that K-netizens were not happy with JKH's character because he seems to be taking back his word about letting his friend go out with Mimo. I'm curious to know what is the latest reaction now that we know HJ is an ass and whether we go back to rooting for the OTP?
Btw, could it be that HJ's animosity is due to SH stealing a girl he liked in college and getting her pregnant? I dunno, i'm just throwing this out there...

You know, I find it curious that when a drama lead throws in the towel for a friend, think Jung Pal and Taekkie, viewers get mighty angry at the writer. Now this lead is true to his feelings and wants to compete for the girl fair, viewers are mad at him and by association the actor, who is just doing his job and doing it very well.
Love is not the Olympics where you can't enter a race the second it has begun. Are those who think that way clued into the workings of the human heart?

@kdramaaddict:)JCW... You are spot-on with the 'Love is not the Olympics' sentiment! My hubby calls these love triangle scenarios 'rat races' whenever he and I watch a k-drama.
He also was so pissed by SH's backtracking and thinks HJ has the right to pursue MM more. And we debated it intensely because while I don't fundamentally disagree that SH should back off while HJ gets his chance cos he himself gave HJ the go-ahead, I don't think he has to take himself out of the running completely (pun intended fully) Then he turned around and shared an experience he had before he met me, where he had met a lady and couldn't confess to her because a friend of his told him to let her go cos he was interested. My hubby let her go and she dated the other guy. A couple of years later, they met at a conference and she was single. That relationship didn't work out. And she wanted to know if my hubby was married. Of course he is. We're happy in our marriage now but he confessed that if he had known that other guy wasn't going to last with her, he would have been bolder about his feelings. It's long term happiness and compatibility that counts above all.
In fact.. By the end of our debate my hubby pretty conceded that all is fair in love and war...

Isn't everyone fair game until before marriage?
I assumed that dating was about trying things out. Nothing wrong with making a move if the relationship is still new right?

From the comments I read in NB and kkuljaem, they still prefer Hae-joon after this episode
I just hope the writer doesn't feel the pressure from the knetz. The show is obviously trying to show us how great of a person Soo-hyuk is and there's something off with Hae-joon. I also hope they don't accuse the writer of ruining Hae-joon's character once it we get to know him more. He some good qualities but. . . c'mon knetz, don't be swayed by his "charms"

It's true that HJ asked SH and that he replied negatively. But when I saw that scene, I thought that SH was speaking everything but convinced; I thought that HJ, being his long time friend, had seen the same thing I did, but then it was strange when HJ acted as if he believed him.
At this time I didn't dislike HJ at all and I am not saying HJ shouldn't pursue her after his reply. I am just surprised HJ didn't see SH lie/confusion/whatever it was. I was at home thinking: "so, you are just going to go with it because it suits your interests? You are not going to question him harder to see what really is behind that face he just made?" Maybe it is just because that's how I would act, but obviously everybody is different and that is not bad.

If you think about it ...it was quite calculating and not as honest as it appears...

Never liked the second lead from the beginning. He's a cold fish and looks like he's carved out of cream cheese.
How in the hell has Dajung's husband hung in there with her for 7 long years? You could chalk it up to untreated postpartum depression but not for that long. Who denies their husband love and intimacy for 7 years then decides to fight them when he finally decides to divorce you? Let's see what lame excuse kdrama finds to keep her from looking like she deserves exactly what she's getting from him right now because you know they will.
I don't care one iota for Dong mi. Want a boyfriend? Stop walking around looking and acting like a crazy bag lady. She fell right into that trap and I have zero sympathy for her. She's just not that nice to start with.
Poor Ae ran it's like she had the intuitive notion that something just wasn't right about this marriage. She should have gone with her instinct. Come to think of it when she called it off I don't recall him saying anything about loving each other, just that the invitations were already sent. I do feel bad for her.

I agree completely with all your points. It's interesting, because I think we're on opposite ships for Cheese in the Trap? :)
I have some sympathy for Dajung over the cancer, but on the sorry state of her "marriage," well, she made her bed. And I remember being shocked at her utter lack of compassion for Aeran, in Aeran's hour of need.
I basically tune Dongmi out. I find her desperation and her over-the-top demeanor very offputting.
I sympathized with Aeran when she was having doubts about her marriage, and rolled my eyes at the people who thought she had to go through with it just because the wedding had been planned. I find her more annoying now that she's being weird and bitchy, though I agree that she has reason to be angry.

min-woo is endearing & for that SH get 1000+ for raising him well:) MW might be the best wingman for his dad right now! he even called out MM's supposed-selca, then had fun smearing her cheek, cute!!!
MM's validation sealed the deal for SH, no more denying of feelings. in the last 5-7 minutes of this episode SH run the gamut of emotions from taking care of MM, declaring his intention in a sentence, getting angry w/ his colleague & declaring war w/ HJ. JHK take a bow!
this is the only kdrama i'm viewing 2x since epi 5, that's how much i like it. i have to commend whoever does the set design/props. there's an apple on MM's work desk and her mug at home has 'daydream' written on it:) MM's is really a goldfish living in a fairytale (intro snippet), but alas, she needs to wake-up!

Haejoon is enjoying his "push-and-pull" game too much, since he knows that Mimo likes him more than he does.
I was kinda disappointed in him when he got caught by Mimo - that he was too busy about other things but the well being of Mimo who, at the time, was clearly shivering. I was expecting him to apologize the next day (he would have to give Mimo a bit of time to calm down from her anger; so if he apologizes the next day, it would have been perfect), but he did not - more disappointment.
It would have been perfect if he comes clean - admitting that he was too busy getting jealous that he does not realizes that Mimo is sick. He was still a meanie, but that would be in line with his character - likes to play "push-and-pull" and at the same time will make our innocent Mimo swoon more than ever.
Come on Haejoon, at least act like you care! He's just...I don't even know why he likes Mimo in the first place. (Legit if one day I am in Haejoon's shoes and my bias is in Mimo's shoes and we are dating, I would have cared for my bias more than my life).
Both Haejoon and Soohyuk are not perfect; they have their own flaws - but so is our Mimo. Maybe Mimo is better off without neither men but if I have to choose, I'm in Soohyuk's camp.

Quite pleased with Soohyuk standing up and acknowledging his feelings. Could not have come at a better timing, HJ is cute and accomplished, but I'm honestly sick of his manipulative and immature ways of dealing with an adult relationship. Now he can either grow up and meet MM in the middle or take the highway.

I was going to drop this drama, but it has really picked up in the last 2 episodes. Love the foot bath scene!
HJ is the kind of man who needs to take a woman down a peg or two before he can feel comfortable with his own attraction to her. Since she was a pop star that he idolized in his younger days, he probably feels a little insecurity and disbelief that she would actually like him now. (Though apparently he had a similar problem with his first wife, a smart, accomplished woman as well.) Men like this don't realize that once they succeed in diminishing the woman's perceived threat to them, they have also diminished the qualities that made that woman so attractive in the first place. And then both the woman and man are unhappy and unfulfilled. I hope the writer gives us a good illustration of this conundrum.

The feelings in this episode... Goodness.
1. Mimo expressing her hurt over Hae joon's dog-in-the-manger attitude along with his complete insensitivity over her drowned rat appearance and sniffles. It hurts when you're the one who likes someone more. You're the one who's always asking the questions, and you could never be sure whether your interest is reciprocated. In Mimo's case, she was treated like a bone of contention instead of someone Hae joon actually cares about.
2. Da Jung and husband. Da jung finally got a taste of what her husband felt like all those seven years whenever he tried to be with her. It was not pretty and was downright painful. And the husband looked like he wanted to weep. T-T those two will work things out, and i'm pretty sure it won't be because Da jung may have breast cancer. They obviously still love each other, but seven years of estrangement is difficult to breach.
3. Mimo's interview with the single dad. Finally Mimo got to understand what Soo hyuk had to go through to raise his son alone. Was crying during that scene.
4. Mimo volunteering. I'm pretty sure she didn't just join for the selfie opportunity and brownie points with Hae joon. And the bonding moments with Min woo were so heartwarming, I'm sure Soo hyuk would have fallen for her on site if he didn't already. Also, Mimo acting up toward the men who were gossiping about Soo Hyuk.
5. The foot bath scene. The gentle yet firm way with which Soo hyuk insisted on taking care of her (hell, even the meds at the beginning). The unshed tears of both. The way Mimo said "Soo hyuk-ah" for the first time in the series (I think she's been calling him Unit something, his whole name, neighbor, or Romeo. I think that affectionate, familiar term accounted for something, didn't it?). The gentle touch on the head. The "Don't touch me; it makes me want to hold you." Soo hyu staying transfixed even when Mimo had gone. Mimo holding her chest as soon as she got inside her apartment.
6. Soo hyuk confronting Ahni. He returned Ahni's words to her about the curiosity bit.
7. Soo hyuk finally confronting Hae joon to say, "Sorry, man, it's out of my control, but I have to get involved." Finally. At least Hae joon's not taller than Soo hyuk is (wahahaha!)

Just wanted to point something out (since no one has raised this - that I've seen, at least)
Does anyone else NOT buy Hae Joon and Soo Hyuk's bromance? Usually I'm all about friendship over love, but their friendship just isn't something I'm buying. We know that they went to school together and kept in touch when SH went abroad, but aside from that, HJ's character is so wooden that I just don't believe that they're BFFs.
SH is always the one who's being charming and friendly and lively, whereas HJ is just... a pretty (but a little creepy looking, tbh) Ken doll. Maybe it's just me, but I do not root for their friendship at all. If anything, I'm rooting more for SH's friendship with his photographer friend with the new kid!
---
On another note, I must say that I really really really dislike how the writers have written Dong Mi. I think that her character has great potential, but she's now just a desperate 30-something who feels that she's entitled to a husband just because she's a woman. And the way she separated the kids in her class just made me furious. Kids that age are so impressionable and it's just such a horrible thing to project your own desperation and unhappiness onto young children! Especially ideas of the opposite sex!
OK rant aside, I am loving this drama. Rooting SO HARD for Da Jung and her husband!!!!

@VVT... Me! Raises hands* I don't buy the bromance at all... For the simple reason that HJ couldn't read SH from the beginning... Plus the moment he met Mimo at the registry, he's in downlow fanboy mode, maybe he subconsciously wanted SH to relinquish Mimo to him... With matters coming to a head when Mimo fell in love with his handsome face...
I still wouldn't want their friendship to be ruined tho...

I loved the start of this drama, then I liked the drama a little bit less when it got all Sex and the City-ish with too many stories and too much Ae Ran and her frowny frown frowns, but with ep 6 it looks like they right-ed the ship?
Loved the ending, loved the last few lines. Much more poetic in Korean due to the subject object verb grammatical structure.
Brain Doc Hae Joon - "What's up."
Reporter Dude Soo Hyuk - "Hae Joon-a... ... I'm sorry."
Brain Doc Hae Joon - " then don't pull shit that you're sorry for. don't... get involved."
Reporter Dude Soo Hyuk - "I'm sorry. But it looks like I'm going to have to get involved after all."
Reporter Dude Soo Hyuk - "Pulling shit that I'm going to be sorry for.... I gotta do it."

Goodness Soo Hyuk has a WONDERFUL son and he's (the actor and character) is ridiculously adorable!!! He actually looks like a good combo of Sok Hyuk and his mother, great casting there. He's already much closer to Mi Mo than he is to As Ran who he has known since birth too.
Soo Hyuk really did an amazing job raising him! He's also caring like his dad and very perceptive. I like how close and relaxed their relationship is, it's really refreshing.
Also Ae Ran, I don't know what's up with her but she sucks the air out of any room she's in. Is she going through depression because the guy she's probably loved for decades still isn't feeling her? Is it something else? I was thinking it might be the actress or just her character but she seemed more full of life in their college days even while still being mellow. She needs to let Soo Hyuk go for her mental well being. Please!
Anyway, I really loved this episode and thanks for the recap!
