Lee Jong-seok, Han Hyo-joo offered leads in new drama from Nine writer

This would be quite the lineup, if it comes to pass (currently, all parties are considering, not confirmed): Han Hyo-joo (Beauty Inside, Dong Yi) and Lee Jong-seok (Pinocchio) are both being courted for an MBC drama titled simply W, which comes from writer Song Jae-jung of time-bendy thriller Nine (also Queen In-hyun’s Man and Three Musketeers) and PD Jung Jae-yoon of last year’s hit com-com She Was Pretty.

Representatives from both actors’ camps confirmed that the offer had been extended, though news is very thin on the ground: The only information about the drama is that it’s about a man and women in their early thirties. That’s it! I mean, knowing this writer there’s probably going to be an intricate plot, some cheeky humor, maybe some time travel and a sprinkling of mystical elements, all rolled up into a tightly written package — but for now all we have to go on is, quite literally, “boy meets girl.”

Lee Jong-seok has had good luck with picking hit dramas (…minus one, maybe), so I expect he’ll choose carefully this time around as well. And with Han Hyo-joo being away from dramaland for years, her last series being 2010’s Dong Yi, she’ll probably be even choosier about her return.

MBC hasn’t given the show a timeslot yet, but W is looking at a summer broadcast, sometime “between July and September.” C’mon news. Couldn’t you have at least waited till there was something more to get excited about? I guess in this case, everyone figured the mere prospect of these stars and producers working together was excitement enough.

Oh god, I've been thirsting for a LJS fix all his projects seem to have this quality of getting you hooked, last time I was really invested in a show was way back when KMHM was airing. Hope they both take this up..

call me weird, but I tend to re-watch Dr. Stranger (with a lot of forwarding though). There were some scenes that I truly like revisiting, mainly those that didn't involve the political-spy stuff. I loved LJS's portrayal when his Park Hoon character was cheeky, a little flirty, and nonchalant. but when he reverted to the obsessive bf, skip! skip! skip! he had such a good chemistry with Kang Sora and the chief doctor.

yeah, that scene where he was drunk and pulled Kang Sora down onto the mattress in his house was major swoon material.

It's a shame Kang Sora's already tied up with that KBS drama, I'd have loved to see her with LJS in this one if Han Hyo-joo turned it down (as she may well do, since she's a Chungmuro actress these days)

Honestly DS wouldn't even have been half as bad if only LJS and Kang Sora would have ended up together. Till a point I just couldn't relate to why it was Park Hoon was so thoroughly in love with Jin Se Yeons character, and their scenes just left me feeling ticked off..

0

@PepperoniPizza - by the sound of his own words (in a video interview on this very site), the PD never understood why they had to make that couple happen either, he wanted Kang Sora to be the girl Hoon ended up with.

and I can certainly see why, their chemistry was off the charts.

0

That is exactly how I watch that drama. Watch LJS being adorable and cheeky, fast forward through EVERYTHING else. It's a pretty quick rewatch that way, to be sure, but ugh, I can't resist his stupid hair and his stupid clothes and his stupid everything. I am so weak for that boy.

Required fields are marked *

Maybe I'M really weird but I loved that drama just because of Park Hoon, I think LJS's best performance was surely in this drama and he should have given that grimmae award for this one not pinocchio, and IMO DS was far from a fail drama because of its rating (it was the top in that time slot) but far from an excellent one either...

1st 2 episodes of DS are definitely one of the strongest & intense intro i've seen in my entire Kdrama experience.

Lee Jongsuk & Kang Sora were brilliant despite the ridiculous writing. Those two along with Kim Sang joon, Choi Jung woo and Lee Jae won saved the show.

The plot actually sounds swoony, mind you not the one mentioned here but the actual plot that's being suggested in other portals is about a surgeon (HHJ) searching for her missing father and gets kidnapped by a mysterious man (LJS) and they travel between virtual reality.

0

W is a story about a surgeon (Han Hyojoo) who is searching for her missing father and gets kidnapped by a mysterious man (Lee Jongsuk?). They travel between reality and virtual reality. It's described as a suspenseful love story melodrama.

I'm cackling because before I found this synopsis, 'a love story between a man and a woman in their 30s' was all I knew too so I did expect THAT plot at all lol.

Do they really have thought this ambiguous plot would make sense to speak about??! But at least I can say both of them are really good at acting, and I don't think that LJS hit dramas were just about luck, it seems he has an eye for choosing projects and acting skills to back them.

He really does pick good projects (Doctor Stranger was an unfortunately hiccup). When he said he'd be back soon this year, that made me worried since all of the previously announced un-cast dramas so far sound like shit (except Park Kyungsoo's because that writer has my undying love) so I was antsy that maybe Jongsuk would just pick one of them because he's too eager to get back to work. W popped up out of nowhere with a good casting already in discussion. I should have known he was already eyeing something unique lol.

Or Moon lovers if they land on september regeardlessly it timing dosen't look good.. Moon Lovers and Lightly ardently will overshadow there timeslot and if they push back to example November there is the Big budget Park Ji Eun drama. early 2017 would have been ideal for them

0

Required fields are marked *

I don't think it airs on july, so no competition between it and AF, as for moon lovers, it doesn't seem it can overshadow this one, but the best is that they pre-film it, just because both LJS & HHJ are hallyu stars so they benefit from pre-selling it to china the most!

0
3
reply

Required fields are marked *

Moon Lovers seem weak for but if they land on september air date then they wouldn't have a chance against Moon Lovers? they will be badly overshadowed in China, Korea and Internationally. It dosen't matter about airing slots but the buzz and Internetship will be hit massively.

To put it short 2016 is fully booked with overhyped dramas in Feb Dots, in July AF, in Sept Moon Lovers (SBS actully sacrificed Saimdong herstory which means they will also land in september because they are bound to get overshadowed by Moon lovers) Then the finally biggest drama of the Air is placed on September with Park Ji Eun's Big budget drama. I believe 2014-2015 were empty years compared to this year and unfortunately the hype of the rest of the year is booked. 2017 is ideal for them because there is nothing left of 2016

0

Required fields are marked *

Sorry for the Error I meant ''Then finally the biggest drama of the year is placed on November with Park Ji Eun's big budget drama. SBS has removed Moon lovers and Park Ji Eun's dramas away from each other but Saimdong herstory got sacrificed in a september slot and if they put them on November they would have got more sacrificed

0

I do agree due but I'm happy that sbs didn't place Park Ji Eun's drama and Moon lovers in the same month. supporting Moon lovers for JiSo, IU and Junki. I don't see all the other dramas being a threat for buzz stealing except that one you mentioned. I don't even see Dots or AF that of hype beasts but they do have alot of hype as well

I've seen Lee Jong Seok in "I Hear Your Voice", which is one of my favorite K-dramas, and "Pinocchio" which was good in its first half and then fizzled out in it second half. Anyways, I like him too. If they both accept the lead roles, this will be a good start for the drama (getting a good cast).

As for the writer, "Queen In Hyun's Man" is one of my favorite k-dramas. I also liked "Nine", but felt that its second half dragged. However both shows had heart and emotion. So the writer also has potential. I am looking forward to when a detailed synopsis is released, because then I will know for sure if this is a drama I'm interested in checking out or not.
