Byun Yo-han up for fantasy melodrama opposite Kim Yoon-seok
by girlfriday
This movie sounds cool, and if Byun Yo-han (Six Flying Dragons) signs on, I’m there. The in-demand actor is currently in talks to star in Will You Be There, the Korean film remake of the eponymous French novel by Guillaume Musso, about a 60-year-old man who travels back in time and confronts his 30-year-old self about how to keep his beloved from dying. Kim Yoon-seok (Black Priests) has already signed on to headline, and Byun is considering the offer to play the younger version of the hero.
The novel is about a 60-year-old surgeon diagnosed with terminal cancer, who operates on a child while doing volunteer work abroad. As a sign of gratitude, he’s given a mysterious bottle of pills with the promise that his greatest wish will be granted. His deepest desire is to see the love of his life before dying, and though his beloved died 30 years ago, the pills allow him to travel back in time to see her.
He’s transported to the past and tracks down his younger self, a passionate young doctor who has no idea that the love of his life is about to die. They’ll attempt to save her, which I guess means that they’re not afraid of the space-time continuum imploding on them. It’s a fantasy melodrama about love and loss, and director Hong Ji-young (Marriage Blue, Naked Kitchen) is at the helm.
What a fun acting challenge to play the same character opposite each other, and a huge boon for a rising star like Byun Yo-han. He’s really had a hell of a year, from Misaeng to Social Phobia to Ex-Girlfriend Club, to the current Six Flying Dragons, and it looks like he won’t be slowing down anytime soon.
Will You Be There begins shooting in March.

Does anyone know if he will be taking time off to serve in the military? Or has he already served? Just curious.

He's an '86er who doesn't have any acting credits prior to 2011, and that plus the rate at which he's picking up work now indicates that he's done with his military service.
(I'm guessing Yoon Kyun-sang aka Moo-hyul is, too - he's an '87er with a similar late start to his acting career. Or at least I hope he's served, anyway)

My pleasure.
^_^ i share your point of view. I just sigh when i think of Choi siwon, Choi Jin-Hyuk (even if he is injured. i hope he'll be totally fine) and Yoo Ah In. Seems like this year we'll be seeing a lot of them go.
Well, we'll be waiting, :)

Byun Yo-han i forgot to add.
The second one, i fear we'll have to wait for him too. He's from 87 but maybe he already did it. Haven't found something on it yet.

He already went. Apparently, his father was against him becoming an actor and so tried to get him to go study abroad and enlist in the army. Which works out for all of us because now, he has his career in front of him and nothing in the way!

"He said actor Lee Sung Min really helped him cope with his shyness."
Another reason why Lee Sung Min is well loved as an actor and as a person. I hope they'll get to work together again.
Byun sounds like the humble actor that would benefit a lot from working with well established and respected senior actors.
I would love to see him on stage in a musical. He can sing and act. My kind of guy!

Lee Sung Min- I still don't understand why the writer hated him in Golden time (Writer wanted him to look innocent, but he failed it- from what I read). I liked him there.
BYH- I remember to read His father approved him being actor when Byun was doing Misaeng. Aja Aja!

That newbie writer diva wannabe? I can't stand her for bashing perfectly great actors who has been around more than she could ever be in this business. Lee Sung Min got the director's pick for best actor for that very role so I don't get it either.
I guess her head got a little too big when the rating went up. I'm glad New Leaf gave her a dose of humility. I regret watching some of it for Kim Myung Min.

I never thought I would be his fan. When I first started to watch Misaeng, I really thought his character was arrogant with no depth. But when he slowly changed, I fell in love with him. I will forever be your fan, Byun Yo Han. You're such a talented actor. I hope I can see you star on your own drama in one of the big 3 stations very soon.

Kim Yoon-seok is one of the top stars of Chungmuro. He is in the talents and star power club together with Song Kang Ho, Choi Min Shik, Hwang Jung Min etc.
It doesn't sound like a major role playing the younger version but I love the fact that he is in a movie with a major star like he did with Sol Kyung-Gu in Cold Eyes. It's always a good thing for younger actors.

It's fascinating how he keeps working on interesting project and people seems to love him too!
Wonder if there will be any engsub for this though. It's enough torture to wait for Socialphobia english sub ._.

All it took was Misaeng but I'm still kind of hesitate to jump into the Byun bandwagon. This movie might do it. If he knocks my socks off in this with Kim Yoon-seok then I'll love him forever. Kind of like what Song Joong Ki did with Han Suk-kyu.

hm, I read this book quite a few years ago.
I hadn't read anything from this author but picked it up because the premise sounded interesting and fresh.
Don't remember that much about it but I know I didn't quite enjoy the writing style and plot progression... Scriptwriters can do wonders though and I always thought the main idea of the book was interesting so it might be that it turns out good!

It's really good to know he went the army already. No need to worry missing him for two years! Hahaha
He'll probably sign on on this one since a senior actor will surely help him in many ways. ☺️

This casting is so perfect. I love both actors playing the main character. After Six Flying Dragons, Byun Yo Han will be playing Hedwig, which I can't wait to see him as, and then the movie.. It's going to be a busy year for him, which I love. Gawd, I seriously can't wait, both the musical and the movie, even though I still get to see him every week in Six Dragons before them. I just can't get enough of him!
