Ji-soo

  • Cutie Ji-soo (Sassy Go Go, Angry Mom) has been cast as the lead in KBS’s drama special Page Turner. The latest from writer Park Hye-ryun (Pinocchio, I Hear Your Voice) features two teens, a genius pianist and an athlete with a bulldozer personality, who are involved in an unexpected accident that alters the course of their lives. Ji-soo will play the sportsman whose dreams are crushed after the twist of fate. The three-episode special will air in early 2016. [Hankook Economy]
  • The upcoming movie Trick has gone on a casting spree: Kim Tae-hoon (Hidden Identity) has been cast as the terminally-ill husband of Kang Ye-won (Bad Guys), and the latter will play a wife supporting him through his last days. A film about how TV audiences are measured and the strategies/schemes behind achieving high ratings, Lee Jung-jin (Temptation) has been cast as a PD who will stop at nothing to bring in viewers. Trick will be helmed by director Lee Chang-ryul, and production begins in early December with an expected premiere date in 2016. [News 1]

  • Lee Jung-jin, Kang Ye-won, Choi Su-jong

  • Choi Su-jong (Into the Fire) will play Admiral Lee Soon-shin in Three Kingdoms–Japanese Invasion of 1592, a Chinese-Korean docudrama set in the 16th century. About Japan, the Ming and the Joseon dynasties, the show will be jointly produced by KBS and China’s CCTV, and recently had its first script read. [My Daily]
  • Oh Jung-se (The Lover, Plus Nine Boys) and Choi Myung-gil (Bluebird’s House) have been cast as the leads in a KBS drama special called Contract Man. Oh is a secret agent who’s been given an assignment to live with Choi for a period of time to keep an eye on her, while Choi will play the head nurse at a nursing home. Contract Man airs on November 28. [Star News]

  • Oh Jung-se, Han Chae-young, Park Shin-yang

  • Han Chae-young will headline Rebirth of a Celebrity Superstar, a Chinese drama based on a popular eponymous novel. Filming has begun in Shanghai, and the actress is expected to soon join the cast. Her character will have a dark past, and a loveline with Chinese actor Ma Ke (马可). It will air on Tencent TV in the latter half of 2016. [TV Report]
  • It’s still in the early stages of development, but tvN has successfully courted Park Shin-yang (Sign) to participate in a new variety program about acting. Baek Seung-yong (Surplus Princess, Misaeng-mul) will direct, but the format of the show and schedule are both TBD. [Ten Asia]
  • Flower in Prison, the Go Soo and Jin Se-yeon sageuk, has added several members: Jung Jun-ho (Mama), Kim Mi-sook (Please Mom) and Jeon Gwang-ryul (I Remember You) have all come on board. Jung will take on a villainous role, while Jeon will make a special appearance that’ll reunite him with Heo Joon director, Lee Byung-hoon. Flower in Prison premieres in March on MBC. [Joongang]

  • Dohee, Minho, Clara

  • Former Tiny-G member Dohee has landed a supporting role in Dad’s a Daughter, the comedy/feel-good movie about fathers and daddy’s girls. Her character gets excellent grades but never worries about studying, and is besties with Jung So-min and Heo Ga-yoon (of 4Minute). [Maeil]
  • SHINee’s Min-ho (Because It’s the First Time) has been cast as one of a quartet of rebellious teens in the low-budget flick The Four. Four friends run away from home, but find themselves being chased by a creepy man. Production is still searching for the remaining leads and supporting cast. [Osen]
  • She settled with her former agency Polaris in September, and Clara (Emergency Couple) is back. Now managed by her own (single-person) agency, she’s been cast as the lead in Chinese drama Chocolates Filled With Happiness, in which she’ll play a chaebol heiress. The show will be directed by Ding Yangguo, and the actress could begin filming as early as next week. [Osen]

This is getting disturbing. Underappreciated actresses (not that I personally like Han Chae-young and Clara) are forced to seek greener pastures in China. Meanwhile, one has to wonder about the political slant of that Chinese-Korean sageuk about Japan! Sigh.

I wonder how will they portray the Japanese's side of the story.

I don't agree that it's about being underappreciated. For Han Chae-young, I'm pretty sure it's about money - the Korean market is oversaturated and limited in terms of how much income it can offer her. China is a huge market with untapped potential - if she can break into it, why not make the most of it? As for Clara, there's that scandal with her agency she was embroiled in, and neither party came out of it looking better than they did going in.

Hehe, that smile! What a cutie, indeed. Such happy news! I can't wait to watch the special. More angst from Ji-soo? Okay, but don't break my heart too much...

I notice how KBS is pretty good with subbing and uploading their specials (and other videos, too), so I'm counting on them to do the same with this one. Bummed that it's only 3 eps, but hey, I'll take what I can get.

Thanks for the happy news, awcoconuts!

OH, Ma Ke!!! This will (hopefully) be interesting :) I recently finished watching the Mainland China novel-turned-drama "The Journey Of Flower" in which he was in (albeit, a supporting character), but he rocked it!!!
Any other Mainland China drama fans out there??

"Three Kingdoms–Japanese Invasion of 1592, a Chinese-Korean docudrama."
This is interesting. Hope that means it's going to be historically accurate. Wonder if they'll get 3 writers, one from each country with their own version of history.

Kim Myung Min will always have a special place in my heart for portraying Admiral Lee Soon-shin.
I like Choi Su-jong, hope he is healthy and completely recovered from the accident in his last sageuk.

Looking forward to this one.

I couldn't be happier about Ji-soo finally getting a lead role, and the choice of writer and costar for the project (but why is it only three episodes long???!)

Meanwhile, I'll continue to offer up prayers to the drama gods for him and Jung Eunji to get paired up in something good as leads.

The comment section here looks like a broken record playing "OMG JI SOO" over and over again but I can't help but add my voice to the chorus!! :D :D So here it goes:

OMG JI SOO finally got a lead role and that too with writers of Pinocchio and IHYV with the topping on cake being Kim So Hyun! This is a golden partnering! If only it was just a little more than 3 episodes- maybe something like 8 episodes would be awesome too!

Love that Ji Soo will take on his leading role as part of the Drama Special anthology series.
So many great actors have been in their 1 episode (or 3-4 episode) dramas over the years and so many new actors get the chance at lead/plum roles in them.

I hope KBS actually revives those (they've always had them, but I mean pay more attention to them!) as a source of potential new actors instead of running after idols and useless model-actors who can't act.

OMG Ji-soo! I have ignored all the other news in this article because nothing is as important as him scoring a lead role. The only problem I have is it's only 3 episodes long!

Me and my Mom just finished watching Sassy, Go Go on Saturday and I was telling her Ji Soo needs a lead role where he finally gets the girl, and I wont be surprised when he does get the lead because he is such a good actor. 2 days later it has come to pass! Maybe I have psychic abilities?

If you really do have psychic make-it-come-true abilities, can you please put out a prediction for Ji-soo to do another drama with Jung Eunji (as OTP this time) some day? (because after Sassy Go Go, that REALLY needs to happen - SGG was perfect for her and Lee Won-geun as a pair, but I want to see her get that same chance with Ji-soo too)
