Name That Drama: Sacrificing mothers and bad sisters

As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. Now that’s motherly sacrifice

So I watched this drama back around 1999-2001. It’s about this woman whose husband had a mistress, and this mistress gave birth the same day the wife gave birth to her son. The mistress’s child died shortly though, and so the husband basically stole his wife’s baby and pretended that it was the mistress’s child. Then there were screenshots of the wife going to the husband/mistress’s place and banging on the door to see her child.

Twenty some years pass and the son grows up. Then one day he gets kidnapped and somehow his birth mother gets kidnapped with him. They eventually get saved, and she somehow knows it’s her son. Then the next thing I remember is that the son gets married, and HIS wife had a miscarriage, and goes a little crazy. She cradles this teddy bear thinking it’s her miscarried child, and the son gets in some kind of fight with her and accidentally stabs and kills her. His birth mother was for some reason around the house during that incident, and she tells her son to run away while she cleans off the knife and takes the blame for killing her son’s wife. She goes to jail and gets bullied by this crew of female felons, but then they end up becoming friends in the end.

  2. Name-stealing sister

I have very little memory of this drama but there were two sisters, the younger one may be adopted or they were stepsisters. One day, when they were younger, the younger sister was about to get hit on the knuckles by the teacher, but a rich boy runs in and stops the teacher. He grabs the girl’s hand and runs out and then he gives her some sort of badge. I don’t remember what happened next but later he had to leave and he asked the older sister what that girl’s name was, but she said her own name instead of her sister’s. So when later in the future when they are grown up, the guy comes looking for the younger sister with only her name. He thinks it’s the older sister but later he realizes it’s the younger sister because of her kind heart and later he sees the badge. Please help!

  3. Tummy trouble

I’m pretty sure this drama is not very old, I think it aired within the last few years. I remember one scene, and at this point I think the main characters have met at least once before, but they don’t know each other that well. They’re outside somewhere and have coincidentally met, and the female lead is having stomach trouble, and she starts squatting and wailing in pain, and the male lead starts going ohhh ohhhh ohhhhh and freaking out, and he piggybacks her and runs off while she’s still wailing. I guess they’re going to find a toilet, lol.

    Please help!

  4. An old-school K-drama

It is ridiculous how I know both actors and actress but can’t find the name of the drama. Or I think I remember the actor and actress wrong.

Anyway, this drama was in the early 2000s. The actor is Ryu Shi-won and the actress is Choi Ji-woo in my memory. I looked it up and the only drama they were ever in together is Beautiful Days. But I don’t think that is the drama I want.

The plot: The female lead is poor and she is in high school. She always does homework and tests for the female antagonist so that her family will get help financially and be allowed to live in the basement, I think. The antagonist is in love with our male lead. But the male lead likes the heroine. I think the two met each other for the first time when he almost hit her with his car (not sure about this). I remember that the antagonist hair’s reaches her shoulder and the hair was black and straight.

I don’t know how accurate this is because I don’t remember very well. But if anyone can tell me something I will appreciate it.

  5. Don’t gamble, kiddos

I’ve been searching for the title for ages, ever since I saw a bit of it as a young child, but have never been able to find it. There’s a drama or movie (I think it was a movie) and it involved a girl whose father was a gambler. At the end of the film the father is gambling and when it goes wrong, he gets shot in the head (the ears, specifically) and becomes brain-dead. In the end he dies, and the female lead visits his grave along with her husband and daughter.

  6. Lost sister

Hi! I was wondering if anyone can help me find this drama that I remember watching with my family a long time ago. Anyways, the story goes like this:

A couple, for one reason or another, is unable to have a biological child so they go and adopt a little girl. They loved the adopted child until, through some miracle, the mother was able to conceive a child. After that, the mother clearly treated her two children differently, favoring the younger biological daughter over the older adopted daughter.

The adopted child’s resentment over her younger sibling grew until one day, she decided to go on a trip with her sibling. She told her younger sister that if they ever get separated, she’s suppose to stay put and wait for her to come find her. Older sister deliberately leaves her younger sister at the bus/train station.

The younger sister gets on a train (bus?) while trying to find her sister and is lost. Older sister goes home by herself and lies to her parents about how her sister disappeared.

Flash forward 15 or 20 years and the older sister is living a unhappy life. Her adopted mother never gave up the hope that she would find her daughter one day and blames the adopted daughter for her biological daughter’s disappearance. The adopted sister lived the life of luxury, since the parents were chaebols, but never received any love/approval from her mother. Meanwhile, the biological sister was raised in an orphanage and lived a simple, though not unhappy life.

The two cross paths, not knowing whom the other was. Eventually, they keep crossing paths and the older sister realizes that the girl is the sister that she deliberately abandoned all those years ago (because the older sister recognized a scar that the younger sister has due to a fireworks accident in their youth; the mother blamed the older sibling even though it wasn’t really her fault). She spends the majority of the drama trying to keep her mother from finding out that the girl that she works with is actually her biological daughter.

Sorry for the long description and thanks!

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

Number 3 for sure is not Marriage Not Dating. In MND, he doesn't carry her. She accidentally poops in her pants, but Ki Tae doesn't do anything about it. Instead, he stepped back because of the smell.

#3 is New Tales of a Gisaeng and that scene happened between the female lead's younger sister and her close male friend. It was not the male and female lead.

#4 is Honest. I should remember that very well. The antagonist caused an accident and blamed the female lead and this lead to the female lead revealing everything to the public

#6 is Women of the Sun. The older adopted sister was a reporter and then I remember the younger sister started taunting her about it till she attempted suicide

No. 6 sounded familiar and it was driving me crazy. I could see the younger versions of the sisters in a few scenes in my mind but couldn't remember the show or any of the actors.

After hours of googling and checking through the many, many dramas watched in the last few years, I've realised I was thinking of 'Rooftop Prince' which doesn't match the rest of the description at all.

I'm now going to have to check this thread constantly until some kind people share their insane drama knowledge and solve the mysteries. Especially number one, pretty sure I've never even heard of that one, let alone watched it.

'Women of the Sun' it is, for #6!

"Shin Do-young is a popular TV news anchor who seemingly has it all: good looks and brains, a cushy job and a privileged upbringing. But Do-young has a deep, dark secret. She was abandoned at an orphanage at a young age, but was fortunately adopted by a nice, well-off couple who were unable to have children of their own. But to the couple's surprise, they conceived a few years after Do-young's adoption, which led to the birth of their biological daughter, Ji-young. Afraid of losing the love of her adoptive parents, the teenage Do-young abandoned her five-year-old sister at a train station . . . Twenty years later, Do-young hires a cheerful young woman named Yoon Sa-wol as her personal shopper. But Do-young's past returns to haunt her when Sa-wol is revealed to be Ji-young. When Sa-wol learns the truth, she plans her revenge by taking everything from her erstwhile sister, including the man Do-young loves."

Does anyone know if there is a scene in Beautiful Days where the main girl gets pregnant and her boyfriend's mom or something like that paid her to get an abortion but she didn't want it. And then Ryu Shi-won told her that he'll help her raise the child. Something along the lines. It was a very old drama. She also had long hair and she always wore this head band with school uniform. The main girl was an orphan in shi won's mothers orphanage. Thanks for the help!

Guys does anybody know this drama (or drama special or maybe movie?) : it's korean and not that old, it was horror/thriller genre, i watched the trailer a year or 2 ago and there were young people in different places and i remember that they were all stuck, like there's this specific scene where a girl and a boy are locked up in a classroom, 2 friends (boys) are stuck on a cliff, the atmosphere was dark, autmun-ish and creepy (normal for an horror i guess lol). No matter how hard i think i can't remember much but i'm sure that i saw the trailer on dramabeans and i can't find it :( i have a faint memory of seeing kim ji won in this but on her page there's no such drama. I think the cast was pretty famous, all young models/actors (well that'd hpw i remember it)

I do not know if the questioner got his/her answer for number 3, but I will add another drama with a scene like that - "Buzzer Beat."
It is a J-drama and the male lead is a basketball player while the female lead is a violinist. The similar scene can be found in episode three. They saw each other in a grocery store, then they drank beer in a park, and so on and so forth. However, by this scene, the two leads have encountered each other a few times already.

While it's not that recent, number three reminds me of a scene from Dal Ja's Spring. Where the female lead experiences really bad stomach pain and the male lead freaks out thinking its appendicitis but when they go to the hospital it turns out to be indigestion.

I'm pretty sure someone will know this and it's been bugging me for awhile, so here goes.

It was a Chinese-language drama but there were parts in English. The female lead was living with this Canadian or American family. Their last name slips my mind, but it was very generic, like Miller or something. There was a son - Tom, I think - who went to school with the girl and he was directing some play she was in that was a Chinese play and he had some totally off interpretation about it and they had a fight about it in the car where she was like, "But it's Chinese culture. You can't see it that way."

Anyhow, I dropped in right during that fight and then later, there was a whole long sequence where the sister of the family, Ashley, decided to run away from home. She had her guitar with her. She was in the park and then 3 friends of the female lead spotted her and trailed her and called her home. The friends spoke Chinese but they spoke English to Ashley. There was also a scene in their school where the female lead and her friends dance a cheerleading routine to Britney Spears' Toxic.

The thing was on some Russian channel while I was stuck in a hotel and it had no title or anything but I was just so curious about it because of its bilingual nature. It was on one of the CCTV channels (lol, not closed-circuit TV, the station). Anyone know what it's called and where I might be able to find some information on it? Thanks ahead of time!
