Shin Mina and So Ji-sub’s rom-com gets new title and costars

It’s not a surprise, but it’s finally official: The new romantic comedy starring Shin Mina (Arang and the Magistrate) and So Ji-sub (Master’s Sun) has secured the next Monday-Tuesday timeslot on KBS’s schedule in mid-November. The series formerly known as Oh My God has a new title as well, and is now called Oh My Venus. That seems less catchy than Oh My Goddess, which seems to be what they were going for, but oh well.

The series sounds awfully similar to MBC’s She Was Pretty, which is a shame since that drama is doing well right now and I’d hate to premiere in its shadow. Shin Mina stars as a lawyer who was once an uljjang — famous for being pretty — and then loses her gorgeous figure. She must gain some weight, because the drama is about her dieting and falling in love with her world-famous trainer, played by So Ji-sub. (Pfft, world-famous health trainer? Does he have a sports drink or an abs workout named after him?)

Directing is PD Kim Hyun-seok of the hit weekend family drama You Who Rolled in Unexpectedly, and writing is newbie writer Kim Eun-ji of the drama special The Reason I’m Getting Married. The drama has also begun casting for supporting roles: Jung Kyeo-woon (Birth of a Beauty) will play Shin Mina’s ex-boyfriend, and Henry (Persevere, Gu Hae-ra) has been cast to play So Ji-sub’s friend from America. I liked Henry’s bubbly vibe in Gu Hae-ra, and can see him yukking it up with So Ji-sub in a cute way.

Jo Eun-ji (Let’s Eat 2) will be Shin Mina’s friend, and Sung Hoon (Passionate Love) will play a trainer who works at the same health club alongside So Ji-sub, and will share a bromance with him. The drama promises a light, cheery romance about healing one another’s internal wounds while dieting. It’s a good thing I like the leads so much, because the premise sounds really silly on paper.

Oh My Venus follows Sassy Go Go and premieres November 16.

Plus there would be problems with Oh My Goddess (aka Ah! My Goddess or Ah! Megamisama) as that is a super-famous anime/manga series.

except if koreans cant pronounce the 'v' sound properly, i mean they say it 'bwi' then wouldnt that sound like 'oh my bwinus' which sounds awfully similar to... hehe

I really thought he was a scene stealer as the white-haired flute assassin in Faith. I really wanted to see him in something else after that and somehow I got him confused with Namgoong Min (how, I don't know) and forced myself to watch Unemployed Romance. The male lead doesn't show up in that show until the sixth episode (not joking) so then I was like, "buh, it's the wrong guy?" fortunately Namgoong Min is pretty awesome too in a different way.

I'll have no problem if this drama ended up being way better than SWP, given that they'd handle the premise smarter. The bar isn't that high though. Just checked SWP' ratings, and woah they jumped very high this week. Are they snatching Yongpal's viewers? The guy is nicer this week, but c'mon...

please god, let this drama not turn out as stupid as it sounds on paper. PLEASE don't do a Warm & Cozy (i.e. waste two talented actors with great chemistry on a pathetic dud script)

and seeing Arang listed alongside Shin Mina's name as her last drama makes me realise it's been so long since we saw her in a drama! I loved her in Arang, she's one of the few women who could match oppa for sheer beauty and presence.

Amen to both, sister ;) . Of course I don't suscribe to your emotions for Mr. So Ji-Sub since I am a man, but I definitely love Ms. Shin Min-Ah (which I think I sadly pet-zoned after My Girlfriend is a Gumiho... mmmm... where can I find a Gumiho like her ;) ).

Although that may be the author's interpretation more than something that KBS is saying.

Some how give a better script or better description... Please no matter how good actors are if plot is not good i'll loose interest (who am i kidding I'll probably be sticking to the screen to see so ji sub)
Is it that bad to hope for Master seeing ghost (arang)without the taeyang.... (Please mix both & give a better story ~_~)

That premise be more like Oh My Ghastliness. Why would 2 top stars sign on to such a silly script?! Guessing Oh My Goddess also sounds too similiar to Oh My Ghostess which just wrapped up. Oh well, here's to hoping for an amazing plot. Otherwise... Shin Min Ah & Kim Woo Bin, fighting!!!

HEHEHE ...well, judging from some of the pictures I have of the delicious SJS he probably SHOULD HAVE an Ab-workout named after him. I you know what I mean, and I think you do! ;-)
