Seo Ye-ji, VIXX’s Hongbin for youth drama Moorim School

Seo Ye-ji (Last, Superdaddy Yeol) and VIXX’s Hongbin (Feel-Good Day) are the latest additions to KBS’s “global campus youth action romance drama” Moorim School. The series was initially courting Lee Hyun-woo and Yook Sung-jae to headline, but as we know, Yook Sung-jae has already moved on to SBS’s Village instead. There’s still no official word yet on Lee Hyun-woo, which for me would make or break the series (and at this point I can’t decide whether I want him to take it).

The coming-of-age drama is about an unconventional school that borrows its name from the martial arts world, where students are taught life lessons rather than the resume-building standard curriculum. They’ll learn honor, faith, survival, and sacrifice, as they find love and chase their dreams. The project is aiming for a globally diverse cast, and will be entirely pre-produced (this seems to be the trend over at KBS for its 2016 dramas; it’ll be interesting to see how they shake out).

Seo Ye-ji is considering an offer to play the female lead, Shim Soon-deok, while Hongbin has been confirmed for the role of Wang Chi-ang. They’re being reported as the leads, but based on the earlier casting round, I’m pretty sure his role would be the second lead. It’s the character Yook Sung-jae was up for — a half-Chinese, half-Korean boy who’s wealthy and does what he pleases, but is lovable.

So upside, I think that means a bigger name will be cast as the main character. The downside is that I’ve seen Hongbin act. He only has one acting credit to his name — the weekend family drama Feel-Good Day, where he played the maknae daughter’s boyfriend. I just remember cringing. A lot. I’m already iffy on whether I can handle an entire drama where he’s a major character, but if he turns out to be the lead-lead, you and I are parting ways, Moorim School.

Directing is PD Lee So-yeon of Baby-Faced Beauty and Prime Minister and I, and writing is Kim Hyun-hee of Sincerity Moves Heaven and 21st Century Family. Moorim School is looking at a Monday-Tuesday slot in January 2016.

Ugh, Seo Yeji is such a BAD actress and a nugu. Why does someone like her keep getting offers left and right? She's been stuck in supporting roles for a while but still NO improvement at all. A bad actress like her does Not deserve the female lead.

She's not bad at all. She did a decent job in Night Watchman's where she was much better than Go Sung Hee, though you could tell she was inexperienced and did a creditable job in Last - the last drama she starred in.

Are you a fan of Seo yeji? You're defending her continuously. She's a bad actress because sometimes she under-acts and sometimes she overacts. The 2 male leads of Night Watchman are much better than Seo Yeji and that horrendous Go sung-hee.

@nethya

I'm not particularly a fan of hers, but I am just giving my objective opinion of her acting, which I agree may be quite different from yours and the majority of comments on this board.

In my opinion, she doesn't stink, I've seen much worse acting from actresses who were supposed to be more experienced than her. I agree she's not that great, but I won't call her the WORST actress ever. Saying that " She’s a bad actress because sometimes she under-acts and sometimes she overacts." I can argue about a ton of other actresses, better regarded, who are guilty of quite the same thing. It's called inexperience and she will improve with time.

Should she headline a drama while honing her craft? An argument can be made against that. But in the other dramas I have seen her in, she didn't act in the lead role there so whoever her sponsor is must think she's ready for meatier things.

your opinion but i'm on the same page with everyone else. seo yeji is bad at acting. Go sung-hee is too awful she cannot act her way out of an empty barrel. GSH is the WORST actress ever.

0

@tani
I know right. GSH is the most wooden, most bland, most lackluster actress i ever seen. I don't blame ppl who give her first place in the worst acting department.

0

Not sure things are this logical with your sponsor reasoning given she definitely was not ready for anything she got so far, hence the growing dislike for her since at that point she's being simply inflicted on people. She was also cast as an MC in Three Wheels for god knows what reason and if you thought she was mediocre as an actress, wait till you see her as an MC. It was so painful I had to turn it off. Completely amateur and embarrassing. (Also ruined my Friday night of TV marathoning). They literally shut her up in the next episode because in ep2, she kept giggling and making a spectacle of herself.

That others are worse -in your opinion- is no reason. There must be some capable actresses in their 20's waiting to save the K industry from its continuous loss in quality. Personally I don't think she improves, like at all.

0

IMO she's bad and not improving. NWM was basically her doing googly eyes and she was credited in Last as lead although she had a max of two scenes in each ep. Where she was lackluster. Of course anyone and their mother is going to be better than GSH.
Another thing is that I am in Korea and she has ZERO popular success or at least recognition. I think her most famous stints are basically starring in BB's video and the dating scandal with Yunho. So for her to be cast over and over again makes zero sense.

@Cledesol
I agree with everything you said. Seo Yeji simply cannot act and still has not improved. Among Korean drama fans in my country, everybody agrees Go sung-hee is a hopeless non-talent and her acting really is so horrible. Anybody can act better than her. She got the #1 spot on my blacklist. I agree with people commentors that she's the worst actress.

Lol yeah. Pretty much can get the "at least she's better than GSH" badge. Does not mean anything. SYJ is not far behind. Last was Kind of a luxurious production though, even if it was unsuccessful. This one looks doomed from the get go.

0

I really despise Go sung-hee for continuously ruining 3 dramas back to back. When I heard plenty of people call her the #1 Worst actress, I think that makes sense because her really horrible acting is too painful to watch. GSH has a bad reputation and she is one of the most hated actresses.

0

That's weird, I thought she had to be popular in Korea for her to keep getting roles. I don't find her particularly attractive or talented but there are some hyped actors that do nothing for me.

But since kdramas are made with Korean audiences in mind, I just chalk it up to my standards being different from Korean standards.

I thought maybe Koreans found her cute. But now I'm finding out she's not popular there either.

No one knows who she is. She got some hype from VIP's because starring as GG costar is bound to get you some attention. She is also infamous in the DBSK fandom. Try to mess with Cassies, see what happens, lol.
Still she keeps popping up next to celebs. Go figure.

0

How is Seo yeji infamous in the DBSK fandom if she is nugu?
When you said "GG costar", did you mean to say BB/Big Bang? I know VIP is their fandom.

0

@gemma : a portion of a big fandom who holds a grudge = not the public.
She was in BB's "Let's not fall in love", which was everwhere this summer so that gets you hype for sure.

Go Sung-hee was ok in Miss Korea but she had a small role there and it was a great, really well-written show.

but in every subsequent role, she's been terrible - blank, wooden and stiff as hell, like she's constantly thinking of her angles on-camera. NWJ was terrible all around, but she was bad even in the otherwise fantastic My Beautiful Bride.

She's just not fit for lead roles or any significant amount of screen time. It's a travesty that she and Jin Se-yeon get offers for network drama leads while girls like Jo Bo-ah, Jung so-min and Kim Seul-gi get relegated to supporting roles or cable.

GSH was okay/mediocre in Miss Korea. That drama was watchable but not that great. I'm not surprised it's underhyped and did not become a big hit. NWJ is a really messed up drama, but still GSH's acting is atrociously horrible. She continued to show quite bad acting in the next 2 dramas and showed very little improvement. She hit 3 strikes and failed.

I thought Miss Korea was really solid but stood no chance in the ratings against You From Another Star.

GSH really struck out all three times. She is not an actress who should be offered leading roles going forward, imo - there are much better candidates for those opportunities.

0

GSH failing 3 times in a row and getting so much criticism for really bad acting in all 3 dramas one after the other...that shows how awful terrible she really is. Such a lost cause.

0

Seo Ye-ji is a mediocre actress, sure. I still don't understand why her casting in some idol drama is a knock-out criterium for watching the show.

At the same time, when her just as bad or worse colleges like Lee Sang-woo, Lee Soo-hyuk or No Min-woo are cast, people don't seem to be upset at all, quite the opposite. What's the difference?

Whether you call her "mediocre", "bad" or "BAD" depends on your scale, of course. Very many lead actors and actresses are worse than her, therefore I chose "mediocre".

But my point is: The comments to this news article focus on Seo Ye-ji terrible acting. No word about Hongbin, whose acting is much worse, for example.

Compare that to the news article about Lee Soo-hyuk a little ago. Lee Soo-hyuk is much worse compared to Seo Ye-ji, almost nobody complained about him being cast. Instead people are enthusiatic and the two comments questioning his acting are shot down immediately.

Your hunch is right, clearly there's a double standard at play here. Though most commenters are respectful in their wording, male actors are more favoured than actresses. Always take these criticism with a pinch of salt and judge for yourself.

Required fields are marked *

@Jon G. - Lee Soo-hyuk has never yet been cast as the main lead of anything, unlike Seo Ye-ji (who isn't that bad from what I've seen, just lacklustre).

And as for why the comments questioning his acting were shot down, there's been a general consensus on the recaps of his current drama (Scholar Who Walks the Night) that his acting is actually pretty decent there and he isn't just a pretty face.

It's very tempting to whinge about how literally any criticism of a girl is a 'double standard' but sometimes there are actual reasons for that which aren't 'oppa is hot'.

Required fields are marked *

I've only watched the first few episodes of "Scholar", but his acting there was awful, much, much worse than anything I've seen from Seo Ye-jin this year.

0

I've seen almost the entire drama of Scholar Who Walks the Night. Lee Soo Hyuk is pretty decent and he can act better than the incompetent SYJ.

0

Lee Soo-hyuk has never yet been cast as the main lead of anything, unlike Seo Ye-ji (who isn’t that bad from what I’ve seen, just lacklustre).

That might be true, but No Min-woo has; Lee Sang-woo many, many times; and many other bad actors too.

I don't think Seo Ye-ji has the skill for a first lead role, but this is a youth idol drama. Lead roles in this sub-genre are almost always cast with inapt actors without a public outcry.

0

@Jon - that's your opinion on Lee Soo-hyuk's acting, but people who've seen everything aired so far tend to differ.

As for the actors whom you claim get a free pass, might I point out that Lee Sang-woo has only been cast in second leads or weekend dramas (which get far less publicity than weekday dramas). Noh Min-woo has never scored a lead role outside of cable or web dramas (one in each case). Neither of them has ever led a weekday network drama in recent years, so your complaints about why no one calls them out are moot - they simply haven't occupied that prominent a position.

And before anyone starts making claims about how crappy but handsome male actors never get hate for bad acting, might I point to Exhibit A: Nam Joo-hyuk, in School 2015.

Also, no matter how fluffy the subject matter is, a weekday drama for a public broadcast channel is a big deal. By all accounts this particular drama is an especially big deal for KBS. The old 'youth drama so crappy actors are ok lol' excuse doesn't fly.

0

@pogo

Why do you say that this particular drama is a big deal for KBS? I'm lacking intel on the political level of things as usual, is there anything special going on?

KBS currently features "Virtual Bride" in the Mon-Tue slot, proving that acting skills are definitely not required for a lead role in their weekday dramas. (It's a different format of course ...)

And before anyone starts making claims about how crappy but handsome male actors never get hate for bad acting, might I point to Exhibit A: Nam Joo-hyuk, in School 2015.

Oh yes, he got a lot of hate during the show. I was surprised, however, how forgiving people are when it came to the casting discussions about him afterwards. He had a lot of people defending him, arguing to "wait and see" and so on, or even positive spins for the specific role he was discussed to be cast in. (Of course, as far as I remember, he wasn't supposed to play the first male lead in a public channel weekday show after "School".)

0

@pogo

I do acknowledge that I may underestimate the prestige that still lies in weekday prime time dramas for the public channels. You are right of course that, in the past, first leads in those shows where not part of the "take a few risks" package.

0

also btw, the hate for Seo Ye-ji is because afaik she pissed off an idol fandom by reportedly dating one of their idols.

It's just masked as garden-variety hate based on her acting skills, but make no mistake, this is personal. The mention of 'Cassies' in one of the comments above was the clue.

At least for me, I always come here with an unbiased judgment and No shade or hate intended. I think Seo Yeji is bad and cannot act, although she's not as bad as Go sung-hee whom I really think is the number one Worst Actress.

0

Meh, I couldn't care less about idols and couldn't name a kpop group to save my life. I just find her unbearably bland.

0

Afaik, Seo Yeji and her company used a really cheap dirty tactic by taking advantage of the male singer's name, creating the false dating rumor, and quickly denying it just minutes later in order to get attention for the nugu actress. If this is true, then the girl and her company ought to be ashamed of themselves for this kind of noise marketing. What a dirty and desperate tactic!

0

@Darcy - why is that dating rumour even relevant to anyone's opinion of her acting skill, though? Why does anyone have to qualify themselves as being from the TVXQ fandom while explaining why they dislike her?

It's not as if she walked out on a drama halfway, dissed her costars/writers, or went and signed a drama while her first drama was in live shoot.

Personally, I find her less bland than the likes of Go Sung-hee, Jin Se-yeon and Suzy. I'm willing to see if she's any better in a full-length drama, though I'm not optimistic.

0

@pogo
Er, I'm pretty sure most DB commenters are NOT K-pop fans. It's not hate. They just criticize Seo Yeji simply because they agree she's a bad actress.

0

@pogo
Let me clarify this. I was simply telling you that...just because people criticize Seo Yeji and call her a bad actress does NOT mean they are pissed off fans of a K-pop boy band trying to hate on the actress. I'm an ahjumma who never listens to K-pop. Same thing with my colleagues but we all dislike SYJ's crappy acting.

0

@chanel - well, if you say so.

0

@Darcy - I didn't single you out, but someone here did mention being a part of that fandom on a post where there are comments criticising an actress who had a dating rumour with said idol.

And my past experience with idol fandoms on db makes me very wary of things they say about people they have a grudge against, and the reasons they may have for saying such things.

0

@pogo
Don't worry. I'm just glad I gave a clear explanation to you and now there's no misunderstandings.

0

Too much information about a school drama, mediocre actors, even worse idols and a fandom that pops up out of nowhere. Most commenters seem to be teenage girls with too much time to kill and very few things to do. Adults rarely use so intense vocabulary and such aggressive sentences for something so insignificant as a TV series.
I was amusing myself with all that childish trashing and "cyber"-hazing actors I don't personally know but the fandom issue gets things out of proportion. I thought sasaengs grow in Soompi and AKP. How did they end up here..?

0

You are jumping to conclusions wayyy too fast.
People were wondering why she gets casted time and time again an getting gigs all around while not sticking with the public or being even decent at acting. I was merely explaining how she has associated with big names as mediaplay. Getting hate or getting hype is the same here > You are being talked of and that's the plan.
You could argue the same on a lesser level for so many actresses out there. She is just a severe case.
If she was any capable or well-liked though, I would say I don't reall care.

0

@pogo Same as the rest of my colleagues. You kind of assume people mentioning an element as a mere fact are salty when I think everyone has been civilised here. Thay should give you an indication that no one is a stan in disguise, lol.

15.1.2.2.5 Jon G

There was a small (But vocal!) minority in school 2015 rooting for Nam Joo Hyuk This small (But vocal!) minority tended to comment more on his recent castings, defending him.

That said, I think you're right on the money about people trashing female actors compared to male actors. Throw an male idol vers female idol into the mix and it grows worse.

Comments defending the male actor usually include he's a nice person (Not a comment on his acting ability), he works hard( Again not a comment on his acting ability. ) or he will improve this is his (blank) role, just give him a chance! (a prime time drama is the best place for that and not amateur play?)

Female actress idols or actress are far more likely to be bashed, instead of defended or excused for similar faults.

Female idols fans can be just as bad defending their unni's crappy acting and casting, as male idol fans. The last Suzy post got her fans telling people to fk themselves for saying that she was a crappy actress (jb/gf deleted those comments after it was reported).

Fans of female actresses don't normally behave like that but then I suppose if their bias has some acting talent they don't feel the need to start attacking commenters personally for saying they are lacking.

0

Yeah, my problem with the drama audience is that they give men more chances and time to improve/prove themselves than women. They should give women that courtesy too. One bad role for a woman and they're written off forever and people want her to never land another role ever again, while the same people will still continue watching men at the same level of skill. This is probably also one of the reasons why there aren't many rising actresses as there are actors in recent years, the audience's opinion regarding actresses feel more permanent. There ARE people (both genders) that you can tell will never improve no matter how many roles and chances they're given, but there are also inexperienced currently-mediocre ones that you can tell at least has some potential for the future... but they'll never get there if they're smothered at first sight.

I'm not saying they're not allowed to criticize, but at least be fair.

Yeah but how many chances does someone like Go Sung Hee, Jin Se Yeon, etc deserve before people stop casting crappy actresses like them who show no improvement? Remaining crappy even after 3-4 acting projects in lead roles.... I agree with the person who said three strikes is out. Han Ga In never improved even in ten years.

That also applies to men too. Idols like Taecyeon might be very nice people but he got no business taking up acting roles, after five years he's still that bad (thank god at least they stopped trying to make him a leading man).

Btw I don't think Seo Ye Ji is that bad as people are saying! She's better than a lot of people who get defended to death for bad acting (especially girls).

Well then have a look at other threads regarding her where reactions range from inexistant to dispassionate.
It becomes quite clear that some people are getting more and more baffled because she keeps coming back (and also because this project has an idol and weird premises) with no public response. Have a look at her Mcing on Three Wheels instead, I think you shall see my point.
I mentioned it to emphasize how irrelevant she is, people having irrational reactions or calling her ugly for dubious reasons should calm down, coz that's out of line. But there had been à good deal of negative comments already. Now, there are many actresses like her who could possibly start a hatefest. Speaks loads of the state of Kdrama industry.

That's why I said he's decent in NWJ, but I think Yunho did pretty good as the main leading actor of his newest drama "I Order You". Of course, I still see a few flaws in his eye acting but he just needs more practice. His band mate did pretty good in SWWTN but I saw commentors saying he needs to improve his voice tone by not sounding mono-tone and he needs to show more natural facial expressions which can be stiff at times. Both guys need more practice but they did pretty good in their last projects.

@Darcy

Do you really think that Yunho in "I Order You" was better than Seo Ye-ji in "Last"?

Sure, his role was more substantial than hers (I hesitate to use the term "demanding"), but he doesn't even get the basics right at all there, while Seo Ye-ji at least learns her lines, has some basic emoting down, is able to do some limited voice acting and doesn't stop acting the second her lines end.

0

GSH takes the cake but I honestly did not fin Yunho better that SYJ. His role was more likeable, but I had to jump off the train mid-drama because I was really put off by the acting overall. And it's true that JIW looked kind of off and uninterested in his role this time around. Can't blame him.

@Jon G.
You're giving Seo Yeji too much credit she doesn't deserve and you are under-rating Yunho and did not give him much credit. That is just your opinion but for me and Kdrama viewers in my community, everybody agrees Yunho's acting in "I Order You" is better than Seo Yeji in "Last"....Yunho shows different facial expressions, good eye acting as the drama progresses, changes his tone of voice, and he has good chemistry with his co-stars. On the contrary, Seo Yeji keeps slurring her lines, sometimes her voice tone is monotonous, her facial expressions are too stiff, and her eyes are expressionless.

@Cledesol
In Night Watchman, Yunho's acting is decent overall. The only issue is that he had one face but his acting is more convincing and more tolerable than Seo Yeji's constant switching back and forth from over-acting to under-acting.

0

@Jon G.
Your opinions contradicted with pogo above because you think Lee Soo Hyuk is awful and worse than Seo Yeji but many people who saw SWWTN would disagree because they all said LSH is very decent. He can act better than SYJ. Now you're contradicting with me. You think Seo Yeji is better than the male lead of "I Order You" but that is NOT true. SYJ is the one who can't even get the basics right. I agree with everything @Caitlyn said because those are exactly SYJ's multiple flaws in "Last". Yunho shows more emotion than her, better line delivery, better eye acting, better chemistry with his female & male co-stars too. Seo Yeji is far more lackluster because her eye acting and emotions are way out of line. In "Last", she is more like an outcast standing next to the male leads because of her bad acting and her total lack of chemistry with her co-stars.

0

I see @Jon G. is clearly Seo Yeji biased. You ask a random question out of nowhere and despite the obvious flaws in SYJ's bad acting, you still over-rate her and claim she's better than the 2 male actors (even though nobody here agrees with you)...

I laughed when you said Lee Soo Hyuk is "much much worse than anything I’ve seen from Seo Ye-ji this year"....LOL it's the opposite. LSH in his villain role is more expressive than SYJ in any of her roles. Yunho's sense of humor and variety of facial expressions in I Order You really beats Seo Yeji's lackluster acting in Last. She's such a killjoy & useless compared to the rest of the cast in that drama.

0

You’re giving Seo Yeji too much credit she doesn’t deserve

I give her credit where credit is due. She has some basics of acting down, that is intersubjectively verifiable. There's not much more to her, and she's not lead material, but that's good enough to make her a mediocre actress, considering the competition.

and you are under-rating Yunho and did not give him much credit. That is just your opinion but for me and Kdrama viewers in my community, everybody agrees Yunho’s acting in “I Order You” is better than Seo Yeji in “Last”….

That's interesting.

Yunho shows different facial expressions, good eye acting as the drama progresses, changes his tone of voice, and he has good chemistry with his co-stars.

His emoting is very flat, he uses two distinct facial expressions and nothing in between, he forgets to use his eyes in many of his more pronounced emoting scenes. His voice acting is terribly bad. He has one single tempo, he inserts unnatural pauses at line memory clusters (typical mistake by people who struggle with memorising their lines) and he has no emotional range in his voice.

On the contrary, Seo Yeji keeps slurring her lines, sometimes her voice tone is monotonous, her facial expressions are too stiff, and her eyes are expressionless.

Yes, sometimes she slurs, sometimes she accentuates, sometimes she mutters. That's voice acting basics, btw, something Yunho doesn't have unfortunately.

Her facial expressions are all over the place, sometimes she underacts, sometimes she overacts, but at least she has facial expressions at her disposal and can blend them. To call her eyes expressionless compared to Yunho is just plain ridiculous.

I see @Jon G. is clearly Seo Yeji biased. You ask a random question out of nowhere and despite the obvious flaws in SYJ’s bad acting, you still over-rate her and claim she’s better than the 2 male actors (even though nobody here agrees with you)…

Honestly, I didn't care about Seo Ye-ji at all until this discussion. I saw in three incomplete roles now (two shows I dropped, the third is not over yet) and I wasn't impressed by her in any of them. She's been less bad in "Last", but the role there is rather boring and not particular challenging.

The question I asked towards Yunho: This very performance by him is, for me, one of the most awful performances of any first lead character I've ever seen in a drama. He has almost no skills and makes almost every single mistake a rookie actor can make.

I'm okay with saying "Seo Ye-ji is a bad actress". But it's entirely beyond my imagination to say "Yunho's acting in 'I Order You' is better than Seo Ye-ji's acting in 'Last'".

0

@Jon G.
I don't take you seriously because you are biased towards Seo Yeji and really bring down both Lee Soo Hyuk and Yunho. You said LSH is awful and say Yunho's voice tone is "terribly bad" but in reality, these 2 guys are more charismatic and they can both act better than Seo Yeji. Someone already mentioned most people who watch SWWTN would really disagree with your criticism against LSH.
Among Kdrama fans in Thailand, MOST people praised Yunho's overall good acting in "I Order You". Not just this country but other international viewers too. We can see clearly he shows way more than 2 faces. He uses a variety of facial expressions. Yunho changes his voice tone from angry to happy, sad, frustrated and so on. Seo Yeji is the one with stiff facial expressions and keeps doing the googly eyes instead of showing real emotion. She is the one with very flat emoting and random over-acting.

0

@Jon G.
"This very performance by him is, for me, one of the most awful performances of any first lead character I’ve ever seen in a drama"....LOL, on Viki where people watched I Order You, NOBODY criticized Yunho's acting. He got mostly praise from the Kdrama audience. I'm Not his fan but I see that he continues to improve and did a good job. Your harsh opinion about him and your claim that Lee Soo Hyuk is awful is just your opinion. Changmin did a good job in Scholar Who Walks the Night but some people stilll think he's a bad actor.

0

Yunho's acting as the first lead character in I Order You is not the best but it's definitely NOT "one of the most awful performances" like you claim....Plenty of people on koreandrama.org, forum Soompi, and Viki.com said his acting is good. I'm one of many people who agree that he is better than SYJ. Based on comments I saw, SYJ got criticism for bad acting in Last, but Yunho got positive comments for his acting in I Order You and Lee Soo Hyuk got positive reception for his acting in the vampire sageuk drama.

0

I like Seo yeji but I admit she has no skills. She is getting nothing but criticism here on dramabeans. maybe she will improve. Despite being a casual fan of hers, I agree with the rest that Jung Yunho is better than her. I'm not tone deaf. I can hear Yunho change different voice tones depending on the situation and when the scene changes. I can see him bring out the character's feelings because he showed multiple expressions on his face. He showed more emotions from his eye acting especially when he had to deal conflicts that grew more complicated. Seo Yeji is not the worst but she is bad. Her face, voice tone, and eyes are completely out of place and zero chemistry with the other actors. I completely disagree with your comments @Jon because you exaggerate and you're being too harsh against the 2 guys who did pretty well in their last projects.

0

Yunho is not great but everything @Jon G. said about his acting in I Order You is really absurd and one of the biggest exaggerations I've ever seen. This is coming from a guy and a non-fan. Yunho did pretty well playing the main character. He, Lee Soo Hyuk and Changmin all improved. From what I've seen all 3 guys can act better than Seo Yeji. She is one of the most lousy actresses.

Ugly is uncalled for.

I love Seo Ye Ji but after watching her in the very dark and gritty Last, I really CANNOT see her as a high school student. That is going to be just too weird!

It's also rather disconcerting to realise there's a 15-year age gap between her and Yoon Kye-sang lol.

Woah I did not expect this amount of hate towards SYJ.

Granted I've only seen her in Potato Star (in which I thought she did a good job playing the shallow youngest daughter. plus her romance with Jang Ki-ha was cute) but has she really been that bad in her subsequent dramas?

I ask because the amount of hate and even personal attacks for things unrelated to her acting seem wildly disproportionate. Like almost no one is talking about her possible co-star who btw, I only manage to watch without fast forwarding anything because his scenes were short; he was that baaaad.

I agree, she honestly didn't strike me as that bad an actress in the bits I've seen of Last - she's not particularly memorable but she's not even close to being as bad as some of her peers who score lead roles.

and um, yeah, that Hongbin chappie is BAD. I hope the role he's got isn't the lead, because to go from Lee Hyun-woo to........this, well, talk about a downgrade.

(it would also be a huge downgrade from Yoon Sung-jae, but you get my point)

Explained before but it's the amout of projects the person has received vs actuall popularity of skills which is disconcerting.
I did not watch Potato Star, hear it was quite good.
Granted all the other actors in this precise one seem horrible. But as far as Hongbin goes, I have never seen him act for example so can't have an opinion.
But truly, sucky idols being cast in shows are-very sadly- kind of a given at this point no? At least, there is a rational explanation why the are cast, because they are going to draw audiences, or so they hope.

lmao so much salt in this comment section :)

I don't have much interest in school dramas but I'll wait until the cast is finalized and we're given more details before deciding whether to watch it or not.

LOL So much venom here.

Go Sung Hee, poor baby, I'm not a Bank Guy, but I'll protect you. She was decent there. Nothing outstanding but watchable.

Fwiw, Night Watchman just plain sucked, period. The show was a train wreck. Not due to to an idol or two.

Jung Il-woo.

I've seen him in 6 dramas. High Kick!, 49 Days, Flower Boy Ramen Shop, Moon Embracing The Sun, Golden Rainbow, Night Watchmen.

His best dramas were definitely in the past. It seems as time goes by the dramas get worse. Is it his acting or just poor choices ?

The last two dramas listed were horrible. The middle two were just that, middling. I really enjoyed him in High Kick, that was almost 10 years ago though.

You're right, John. He's either bored or has given up on the chance of a big career after Moon Embracing The Sun. He does everything he comes along nowadays. Bad choices= bad agency?

I'm really not surprised that so many people say Go sung-hee is the #1 Worst Actress. Her atrocious horrible acting is why she deserves that title.

If you're going to choose an idol can't you choose good idols? There aren't many male idols good at acting that I can name right off the top of my head (other than Yook Sung-jae), but there's got to be some out there.

Omg SYJ and GSH have got two of the biggest nose jobs in dramaland! Thus is mean to say, but....jeez...that's all I see when I watch their dramas!

I cringed a little wishing for more oompph or emotion from GSH in my beautiful bride, but nothing came!

Park Yejin is killing it in Last! She's a wonderful actress and should bee credited as "lead" on asianwiki.

I'm surprised that Honey & Clover hasn't been adapted as a K drama. Haven't seen the J version. I did read most of the manga.

I think that Ha Yeon-Soo would be ideal as Hagu.

You're right, she does give off that Hagu vibe especially with the wavy hair. I'd love a Korean remake of Honey and Clover, the jdrama is one of my favorites.

Wow I am shock at the amount of hate and bashing SYJ is receiving here. I saw her acting once and I thought it was okay. It wasn't good but it wasn't that bad either. I have seen actresses and actors way worse than her. Plus she's a rookie so she couldn't have been that great right of the bat. The comments she receive here is disgusting. If you don't like her acting then that is fine but to bash her looks, call her disgusting plastic surgeries (are you even sure?!), her having rich old sponsor (do you have proof?!), accuses her of being user just to protect your Oppa and just downgrade her all together is so wrong.

So what if she get cast here. It's not like this drama stars some top actors etc. Lots of worse idols/actresses got cast for leads or 2nd leads in more well produced dramas acting along side top actors and yet they don't get 1/10 of hate this girl is receiving. Instead all comments was like 'She was bad in her last drama but maybe she improve now. Let's all give her a chance!' even if this people probably have the worse acting in the world. Seriously the double standard is very very obvious.

Especially if it was actors they don't even receive much hate and get lots of shielding. I think NJH is worse in acting than her and yet he got defended here in dramabeans. Or that we should give him a chance etc. and yet no one is giving this girl a chance. I guess this is the reality of the world we live in.

Some people are giving her plain hate but on the other hand, some people here are giving her objective criticism. After watching Seo Yeji in 3 dramas, I admit her acting really is BAD and has many flaws. Majority rules because most people said she's a bad crappy actress. Saying she's a rookie is a lame excuse. She has been around for a couple of years and she got plenty of experience from FOUR full length dramas. She's should Not be considered rookie anymore. I also notice Everybody said Go sung-hee is the #1 Worst Actress. A LOT of people in other websites say the same thing because her acting really is horrible.

My comment is response to you because you are mad people "bashing her looks"....So what if people think she's not attractive and not pretty? People entitled to their opinion. No need to get pissed off for no reason. Btw, I agree with other folks. Seo Yeji cannot act. She's a lousy bad actress.

Beauty is subjective so you should Not scold people if they said she's Not pretty. Seo Yeji is getting plenty of hate but it's even worse for Go Sung-Hee. She is getting way too much hate and more than enough severe harsh criticism. I don't blame people because she is really horrendous. Anybody can act better than her. She's the Worst of them all.
