Sassy, Go Go’s motley crew of troublemakers

I still don’t know what kind of high school troublemakers join the cheerleading squad, but the setting for KBS’s new Monday-Tuesday drama Sassy, Go Go is apparently a place full of high-achievers, so maybe a motley crew of dancers is as troublesome as it gets? The first teaser has been released along with character stills for the main foursome, and as expected, Sassy, Go Go looks like a fun youth drama about finding yourself. With some added pep, of course.

Jung Eun-ji (Trot Lovers) stars as a popular girl who transfers to a boarding school that’s highly competitive and full of overachievers. At her new school, she finds that everything is judged by your academic ranking, and becomes the troublemaker outcast because of her poor grades. Lee Won-geun (Hyde, Jekyll, Me) plays her love interest, a smart, well-liked boy-next-door type who’s confident and carefree.

Chae Soo-bin (Bluebird’s House) is another high-achiever — I think it’s safe to assume they all are, except for Eun-ji — who’s under so much stress from her parents that she’ll stop at nothing to keep her grades up. And judging from the teaser, that means cheating her way through tests.

And finally, Ji-soo (Angry Mom) plays a kid with anger management issues because of his oppressive, physically abusive father. Ugh, Ji-soooooo, why must you always break my heart so? He’s a smart kid who always got top grades all through junior high, but once he got into this uber-competitive environment, he began to struggle.

The drama is about the school’s rejects who are members of the dance club versus the school’s elite who are members of the cheerleading club (yes, strange, but let’s just go with it). The school forces the two clubs to merge, which is where the drama and hijinks will come in.

The teaser is a sort of advertisement to join the school’s cheerleading club, which is made up of silly puns that really make just a barebones amount of sense: “You there, knocked down [chee-uh] by English, speaking, reading, listening… Do you know chee-uh-leading? You there, cheating [ban-chik]… Do you know sass [bal-chik]? Do you belong to a club? We’re recruiting new members until October 5.”

It doesn’t look like they’ll get a ton of offers, but anyone knows that a good group of misfits has to hone their talent the tough way. Nothing says team bonding like being ostracized by their peers? Hey, it worked for Glee. I’m still stuck on how they plan to get Angry Ji-soo to cheer, but I plan to find out, that’s for sure.

Sassy, Go Go premieres Monday, October 5.

It gives me the Dream High feel, maybe also because of the idol cast but I'm still stoked for it. Jung Eun-ji and Ji Soo are enough to make me care for however long this drama ends up being.

Oh I'm all for more angsty Ji Soo. Can he get a good love line? Or a puppy crush on a caring teacher that takes him under his wing? Because I need more of it.

I just love him as a poor, wounded puppy.

Uhm.. Just want to ask. Why you didn't write a thing for vixx's n character in this one? I thought he is one of the 2nd male leads along with jisoo??

Maybe the Korean press hasn't written as much about his character yet beyond what we already know.

lol, I guess I'll have to get used to these sort of reactionary K-pop idol-defending comments on the comment sections for this drama.

The male lead isn't an idol though. He's an actor who has more experience than Jisoo in dramas, though not a lot oof people know him or love him as much as Jisoo.

But yeah, the 5.1 comment is a bit... :(

i don't think user is trying to defend any idols, since lee won-geun is a rookie actor. but yeah ji soo looks hella fine in that second still.

I think you get confused with murim high, that's where vixx's hongbin will be starring at. Not this drama, if I'm not mistaken.

If you are referring to why?'s comment, he/she was referring to N, not Hongbin :)

I'm not really into the high school dramas but it sounds cute. I would have passed on this but Ji Soo makes that impossible. I just can't pass on him playing a wounded puppy.

This sorta reminds me of the Japanese drama Tumbling (which is a super fun drama!) where the male lead - who is a troublemaker and resident "bad boy" of the school - gets forced to join a club in school and ends up joining the male rhythmic gymnastics sports club with a couple other mismatched boys and end up going to world nationals. It's hilarious and heartwarming, I hope this ends up the same!

It does sound a bit like Tumbling, which was great by the way. I barely watch anything without romance and I've watched Tumbling maybe 20 times.

Thanks Ji Soo and Eun Ji, now I have one more drama added to my list. With these two it's impossible to don't give a try.

The male lead doesn't sound that interesting out of the 4 but I hope that changes when it airs. Don't disappoint, writers!

I wonder why Eunji sports almost the same hairstyle in every drama. She looks great with the bangs, but I really liked her hair during her promos for Apink this year..

Anyways looking forward to this drama. It looks fun and everyone is so goodlooking lol. Ji soo, eun ji, N fighting!

Much as I loved him in Angry Mom, little disappointed that it sounds like Jisoo's character here isn't far off from the one he played there. I hope he doesn't get too typecast.
