Name That Drama: Rich stalker and baby daddy confusion

It’s Name That Drama again! As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. Possessive creep

Hi! I’m so glad that you have the Name that Drama discussions because this drama has been bugging me for a really long time. It aired around 2008 (the last time I’ve been to Korea) and I was 8 at the time so I don’t remember much but I hope someone can identify it. I remember that there was a girl (it was a sageuk) and there was this rich guy who was crazy stalkerish about her. The guy had kept her in this fancy room but she changed clothes with a maid and ran away with the guy she loved. The stalker guy went into the room and was saying stuff that he probably thought was so romantic and the maid disguised was lying on the bed. He saw that the maid was shaking so he turned her over then found out about the plan and he was so mad at the guy who “stole” “his” girl. After that there was a search hunt and the girl and the lover were at this riverbed thing splashing water at each other saying I love you’s then they were caught. My mother turned off the TV then so to this day I don’t know what this drama is. Please help! Thank you!

  2. Grumpy editor

I’ve been cracking my head trying to remember the name of the drama that randomly popped in my head… I can’t even remember how long ago I watched it. I remember there being an office and the main girl was an editor (for a newspaper/magazine) and was competing with a guy (a minor character) for a better position. The main character was kind of mean/strict/antisocial but good at her job. I’m pretty sure at the end she won some contest or something which sent her abroad. I cant remember what the main male did in the drama. Help!!

  3. Pregnant ex-wife and bad mother-in-law

This is the drama that got me hooked to K-dramas back in my college dorm in 2005. I saw it on TV one night and my roommate and I started watching but missed the last episode and searched in vain online, but instead of finding this drama we found so many more awesome K-dramas. So please help. The woman had a horrible mother-in-law and got divorced and started dating this guy with a cute little boy. She then found out she was pregnant with her ex-husband’s baby, who was now remarried. The new wife also had trouble with the mother-in-law. No one knew if the ex was the baby’s father (it was) and she lied and said it was the new boyfriend’s. Eventually the ex-husband and the new wife get divorced and there is a scene where she reunites with her ex-husband and is very pregnant and they hug near the water.

  4. Marriage of obligation

I only remember the beginning of this drama. The main female character is already married, but her husband cheated on her. I think she might have a kid, but not too sure. The main male character is also married to another women who came from a wealthy family. I also remember that the woman he married used to dance, and she is injured now. This might be the reason he is forced to marry her. She is very spoiled and checks up on him. He doesn’t love her, but had no choice but to marry her in the beginning. That’s all I can remember. I appreciate your help!

  5. Inappropriate professor

My friend was up really early this morning and caught a Korean movie on TV, but it wasn’t subbed (we live in Korea, she doesn’t speak much Korean) and she only saw some of the middle so she has no idea what it is.

As she described it to me, it’s about a college professor(?) who’s a bit of a pervert and obsessed with butts. Every time he sees a nice butt, he feels the need to hump(?) it. He also dates a lot of students, and is living with one, but they avoid actually having sex with him. I think he just kind of touches them inappropriately?

This movie sounds so incredibly strange that I just have to know what it is.

  6. Fusion Fate

Hi! I have been trying to figure out the name of this drama for weeks now. I watched it in passing. But, there was a scene where the main guy character who was singing “Fate” by Lee Sun-hee, and he was accompanied by a lot of Korean traditional instruments. I remember he was performing at an outside stage, and it appeared to be in a college. But that’s all I can remember. Thanks!!

  7. Creepy country comedy

    This drama is killing me!!!

It came out a few years ago, and it’s about a bunch of workplace people who are moved to a station in the countryside. I remember it was a comedy (think High Kick vibe) but had this really creepy mystery behind it. HALP!!!

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

Yes, 7 is definitely Once Upon a Time in Saengchori. Been thinking about that lately because everything I read about Village keeps reminding me of it. Loved that show. :)

Depending on the timing, it might also be My Queen, which Witch's Romance is a remake of.

Could #2 be Color of Women? I know #7 is definitely Once Upon a Time in Saengchori because I found it to be a cute quirky drama and I had such baad second male lead syndrome while watching it

#6 Heartstrings - maybe. I don't know what song they played but Yongwha played a college student who usually played rock but meets Park Shinhye who only plays classical music and so they end up creating a fusion band. They do have a concert outside.

It wasn't Yong Hwa singing. It was Lee Hyun Jin singing "If I Leave" and he was amazing!

I could be wrong because I have no idea whether the particular song mentioned in is this drama, but the description of someone singing and traditional Korean instruments makes me think of Heartstrings/You've Fallen for Me so maybe #6 is that drama?

Listening to the song and watching this part still get me all teary eyed even after all these years. Writer Jung Ha Yeon, directors Yoon Chang Bum and Shin Chang Suk, all the actors, music etc were pretty much captivating even though it was long (over 100 episodes).
We don't get these kind of quality sageuks any more (*tears*) which is pretty sad. I'm glad that I watched some of them a few years ago when it was still available.

#1 is definitely Legend of Hyang Dan. It was 2 episode drama that came out in 2007. I love the two leads (Choi Si-Won and my sageuk girl Seo Ji-Hye ). I'd love to see them again in a another sageuk.

The movie version is called "Chunhyang". It's based on classic Korean folk tale. A love story between a governor/magistrate's son and a daughter of a former courtesan.
The movie is more faithful to the classic folk tale than the drama but I love them both :).

#1 sounds like 'Gu Family Book,' even though I know it isn't because it came out later than 2008. The villain was obsessed with the daughter of a rival and after murdering her father, forced her to being a gisaeng. On the night of her deflowering by the villain, her maid took her place and she made her escape. She ran off, but not with someone, though...

no 1 is Bicheonmu, a Chinese - Korean drama set in Goguryo time and starring Joo Jin Moo, Kim Kang Woo, Park Ji Yoon etc. The creep guy is the young master from the chinese side which was once the main couple's bestfriend. dramacool has it subbed, maybe you want to check it. I watch this drama after fell in love with the OST that sung by Park Ji Yoon, Nocturne. it is the same song used in Monstar for Ha Yeon su and Kang Ha Neul's duet.

I only found her and her band Jaurim from trying to stalk that sad song in Surplus Princess ep2. :') So glad I did, they're awesome!

Oh God, no, save yourself countless hours (well, about ~160 hours, not countless). Actually I didn't watch this drama but my mother watched it (it was broadcasted on TV in my home country back then). Sometimes I glazed the screen :D and my mother would fill in the details, haha. The plot was pretty slow, so I still remember it despite not watching :)

I am like 110% sure #3 is My Sweetheart My Darling! As soon as I read the description, I was like I KNOW THIS, IT'S MY FIRST KDRAMA!!!! I had to go to my spreadsheet (long story short- so obsessed with dramas that I kept a running spreadsheet for 4 years of what I watched/my personal rating/ and what I planned to watch in the near future. Only stopped 5 years ago because hard drive fried and missed a half a year of tracking). I can't believe I watched long dramas at the time. I was so caught up with it. Also, now I finally realized why while I was watching I Hear Your Voice that Lee Bo Young felt so familiar to me!! Ok enough exclamation marks, time for me to read the rest of this "name that drama" :)

@Candice - I actually thought of using mydramalist.com back in the day but don't know why I didn't. I think because I really needed something to keep track of what I was watching and specifically what episode I was at. It felt more like the wild wild west of online drama subs and I use to bounce from site to site because links became inactive real quick and then all the take down notices. Then I would download whole series and download the corresponding subs but it didn't work well with the video app I was using so the subs were always lagged or too fast...I remember downloading a Taiwanese drama that was just so so so so horrible but I like the leads. I spent so much energy with the slowest connection to download all the episodes and subs to watch it completely out of sync and it really pained me but I had to watch it and then it stopped working all together. I never got to see the ending but it was one of the final push for me to be an early adopter of subscription service before their catalog caught up with the free sites.

I don't remember if there was a scene like that in painter of the wind, but number 1 could be from the movie version of the same story (Potrait of the beaty, if I remember correctly). I remember the man getting really possessive of the main girl, so that sounds really familiar...

#4 sounds like Phoenix with Lee Seo Jin. The main girl was married to Lee Seo Jin's character and she was pregnant but had a miscarriage and then they got divorced. I remember it so clearly 'cause the other girl was so crazy. I love her now every since her mother role in Playful Kiss.
