JTBC considers new rom-com with King 2 Hearts writer

More psychiatry romances? Hrmmm. JTBC is looking to schedule their next series to follow D-Day, which just premiered last weekend, and talk is out that it’ll be a series titled Madame Antoine, a “clinical-psychology-medical-romantic-comedy” drama.

I’d say that’s quite the genre mash-up, but we did have It’s Okay, It’s Love doing quite well not too long ago, so maybe the market is ready for another? We aren’t told anything about the plot or characters of this project, merely that the drama would tell universal stories that’ll be relatable to anyone with pained hearts. It’s a pretty generic description, but rom-coms are all about the execution so I’ll keep my mind open.

Scheduling is still in the tentative stages so we have no confirmation yet, but if it gets the slot, Madame Antoine would be this writer’s first foray onto cable. She’s Hong Jin-ah, one-half of the other “Hong sisters” writing duo in dramaland — they’re the ones who put out Beethoven Virus and Over the Rainbow together, not the pair who penned Warm and Cozy, Best Love, Master’s Sun, You’re Beautiful, and My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho. (In a showdown, that other duo would probably win the right to claim the moniker “Hong Sisters,” but this pair has a fair number of titles to their credit as well.)

This writer has worked on dramas solo as well as in a team, and most recently penned The King 2 Hearts and Mi-rae’s Choice. The latter was disappointing on the story front, but I did enjoy the show for taking an interesting idea (time-traveling to stop your past self from doing something) and creating likable characters all around. Directing will be PD Kim Yoon-chul of Could We Marry and Could we Love (as well as My Name Is Kim Sam-soon and Que Sera Sera), so all in all, I feel pretty good about the production team.

If Madame Antoine is indeed scheduled to follow D-Day, it would premiere in late November as JTBC’s next Friday-Saturday series.

So this will be written only by one sister no?Loved King 2 Hearts that was a combo between the sister but like many found out the solo writing Mirae choice much of a let down even if the cast was great...Maybe it's like the other duo,the much famous Hong Sisters, one hit one miss type and this one will be a pleasant surprise...Anticipating the upcoming news regarding the casting and stuff

If we have to have another "psychiatry rom-com" (so awkward even to write that lol) I'd like to see this:

Psychiatrist sets up her patients with each other, with hilarious and often disastrous results. Patients get fed up and band together in revenge, deciding to matchmake her with her colleague. Little do they know the guy's been in love with her for years. Too bad she hates him, for some unresolved misunderstanding/some completely ridiculous and hilarious reason.

I'd much rather watch that than another awkward doctor-patient relationship that borders on codependence and/or illegality, as much as I enjoyed IOIL.

Mi-rae’s Choice was beyond horrible. Why give a chance to such a bad scriptwriter, when there are so many good ones?

Cable drama? Maybe a chance for Yoon Eun Hye's comeback, because based on her popularity now in general is almost zero, so her comeback to a cable drama will be very likeable. ;)

I have a resolution never again to write about future projects or the actors in them. Most of the times I find myself watching something entirely different than the poster or the description we were initially presented. This is one of the very rare cases where I can say with certainty that Mirae's choice would have been much, much, much better if aired in a non-major network and certainly not in live-shooting. I dare say that maybe even King2Hearts would do better somewhere else and not in MBC. I have a weird sense that the writer is unable to cope with the anxiety deriving from live shooting or the usual demands (ratings, ppl etc) in major networks. Of course provided JTBC doesn't as well drive her crazy...

I had so much hope for Mirae after watching King 2 Hearts, but it was such a let down. I guess I'll give this drama a go since the writer seems to write very interesting stories.

This has always been the Hong Sisters of my cup of tea. Not the other half. (Since 2008)

(The other half really specializes in romcoms)

I'm waiting for Ji Chang Wook to come back to drama land...He can do well in this kind of drama (medical rom-com). I'm not sure why this project couldn't get a lineup on major broadcasting station? Anyway, I hope they will get good cast for this drama.

I like your suggestion. I can totally see Ji Chang Wook as a hero (even though at this point, the plot is not known).

And I really want to see Moon Chae Won paired with him. Its like a dream OTP for me.

But I want her as a sassy doctor. I liked her carefree character in movie Love Forecast. So similar role like that.

And Ji Chang Wook can be a puppy hero (but ofc when he is on his own he is a mega badass with talent and past of his own)

Or maybe I still see Healer in him.

I propose Ji Chang Wook as the doctor/psychiatrist.

Oh ..... I wonder why she's not writing with her sister any more. I am willing to give this drama a chance because I love Bethoven Virus.

Oh.... Another psychiatry drama. But wait! It will air on JTBC!!! So happy!

I love JTBC dramas as of late. From Maids, Beloved Eun Dong, Last and D-Day! Awl hasn't aired yet, but it's now highly anticipated. Now, here's another drama series from my favorite broadcaster.

It seems like JTBC is the only legit broadcaster out of the four General cable networks.

I am wary of this writer—she (or they) writes awesome second male/female leads, but then seems to enjoy killing the character at the end of the drama, literally in King2Hearts, and *sob* Park Se Joo *sob* for Mirae's Choice.

A drama on the look-out if the casts are attractive, or else, in fear of wanting to kick her off the cliff—it maybe a pass :( Not so sure JCW should go for this drama with the writer's history.
