Character teaser roll call for all Six Flying Dragons

Kim Myung-min! Here’s the Six Flying Dragons teaser I’ve been waiting for. The first teaser gave us a glimpse of Yoo Ah-in as future King Taejong of Joseon, and now we have character teasers for the five other “dragons” who will help shape the fate of the nation. (You can skip the first half of every single one of the teasers, since they feature the exact same opening that we saw in Yoo Ah-in’s — the new character shots are featured at the end of each clip.)

The new SBS sageuk from the team behind Tree With Deep Roots is about the founding of Joseon, and the political clash between scholar Jung Do-jeon (Kim Myung-min) and future King Taejong (Yoo Ah-in). Chun Ho-jin plays Yoo Ah-in’s father, the founder of Joseon, who prepares to conquer Goryeo in his teaser and says that he has yet to lose to anyone in battle.

Kim Myung-min plays the scholar Jung Do-jeon who helps him establish the Joseon nation, including laws and government structure, in the hopes that it will become a bureaucracy governed largely by ministers. Yoo Ah-in, on the other hand, expects to inherit the throne and will stop at nothing to have absolute power. Kim Myung-min asks in his teaser, “Wouldn’t it be fun to bet Goryeo on this victory?” It’s a measly glimpse, but it’s fun to see him in costume.

Yoon Kyun-sang plays Yoo Ah-in’s loyal soldier, while Byun Yo-han plays a warrior who protects Kim Myung-min. Byun Yo-han says in his teaser, “Goryeo, this nation, I’m going to end it.” I’m sure they’ll all be in lock-step when they’re trying to take down Goryeo together, but it’s in the aftermath that they’ll be divided, and Byun will side with Kim Myung-min’s camp.

Further complicating his allegiance will be his little sister Shin Se-kyung, who will fall in love with Yoo Ah-in. As a fight breaks out around her in her teaser, she says, “I’m going to do something. Because being alive means you have to do something.”

It seems really unnecessary to repeat the same intro in every single teaser, but so far the show is looking pretty slick, and there’s still a month left to roll out longer teasers where we get a bigger picture of the story and scope (not to mention Kim Myung-min and Yoo Ah-in in the same frame, right?). Now that all our dragons are present and accounted for, I say it’s time to throw them together and watch the fireworks fly.

Six Flying Dragons premieres October 5 on SBS.

Saving the best for last - Kim Myung-min! Love the feel of his character. Just because he helped established Joseon doesn't mean he's on the monarch's side. This is not your typical one dimensional villain.

This trailer makes me worry about SSK's character. At first I thought she was just YAI's love interest but it looks like she is involved in politics here which is rather hilarious considering this time period. I see why she is a fictional character together with the other 2 pretty boys. They need 3 historical figures for the older viewers who are familiar with the history and 3 young pretty actors to lure in the young viewers.

I was pleased to see Lee Seung Hyo's (Alcheon from QSD) on the roster but I'm disappointed that he is not part of the 6 dragons. He is probably going to play YAI's older brother who was the 2nd king before him and then he's gone.

I think you'll enjoy this more if you don't know the detail history and have not seen it's more historical version "Jeong Do Jeon" or "Tears of the dragon". I'm already picking this apart and it hasn't started yet lol.

I just hope her role not that significant in this drama. She is improved but not good enough to carry heavy role. i prefer Jeong Yu Mi, but sadly she just a supporting role.

Baek Jin Hee could've handled a heavy sageuk role but she declined so I think they'll play it safe and half ass the other three dragons.

If they focus on fleshing out Kim Myung Min and YAI's characters in their battle for power and make it challenging for the viewers to pick a side then it will be a fun ride. Kind of like Mishil and Deokman's battle of wit in QSD.

Agreed, it is sad she declined. Maybe her agency wanted to play safe, not sure. i hope they will not give too heavy role to SSK.

I think they will focus more on KYM and YAI's character. These two are the solid reason why we cant miss out this drama, just pray that it will be good, otherwise the good casts will definitely be wasted.

Uuugggh! Why do they do that with teasers??!! Annoying graphics and music aside, the cinematography is beautiful and I have high hopes for this.

Her character is maybe in shock, what do you want her to be doing? screaming and jumping up and down? Give it a chance to even air. She may not be the best actress but she has been getting better, sheesh.

Geez, you're the one who sound really pressed and getting pissed off for no reason. You can't blame people for still doubting SSK. She has history of bad acting.

She could have shown more fear on her face and more emotions in here eyes instead of looking blank. This mediocre actress still has a long way to go.

Required fields are marked *

Not only fear, I think. With her line ( “I’m going to do something. Because being alive means you have to do something.” ) narrating in the background, maybe it's a mixture of fear and determination, so the frightened look gets toned down.
And yes, she has a long way to go. I hope we'll see more improvement in the upcoming teasers. ;)

@chanel makes a good point. SSK clearly needs to work more on the eye expression and facial emoting. Yes she should have shown fear and determination but her face is blank and kinda stiff. More improvement please. She has a long way to go and up until now, I see plenty of viewers doubting her.

0

Then that would be OVER-ACTING! ;) lol

@AA
Lmao...you sound just like SSK's defensive fans who try to find excuses....LOL, it's not overacting as long as you show an ADEQUATE amount of fear on your face. Showing a stiff bland face is called under-acting.

I won't say I am a fan of hers per say, but sure. lol

With this one, i'd rather wait and see & hope for the best. I've only seen her more recent roles so I can't comment on her previous roles too much. I have seen FASHION KING but there was all kind of WRONG in that drama!

0

@AA,

You're funny. Do you even realize that top A-list actors get highly praised for their strong good eye acting and convincing facial expressions?? In that disastrous scene, you're supposed to look either distressed or shocked. Shin Se Kyung improved in TGWSS but she's still NOT a good actress. Some people are still skeptical about her.

Required fields are marked *

Guys,

i also worried about SSK. She was good in TGWSS and actually i was surprised with her performance, even i dislike her so much before. But sageuk role might be heavy for her, at this juncture because she is still not very good with facial expression and eye acting.

However, i think this drama will focus more on male characters in which her character might not be that significant (even she is still a lead). Not sure how she will carry this role. but i will give her a chance, considering how she surprised me with her recent drama.

0

IMHO, I still strongly dislike Shin se-kyung's acting and I still think she sucks (despite her improvement). For example, Lee Yeon Hee improved in Miss Korea but after that she got a lot of criticism for bad acting in the sageuk drama Hwajung. I admit she is BAD. If Shin Se Kyung does not do well in Six Flying Dragons then she will get plenty of hate and more people will continue calling her a terrible actress.

0

@Rhonda said: If Shin Se Kyung does not do well in Six Flying Dragons then she will get plenty of hate and more people will continue calling her a terrible actress.

I think she is already get used to be called bad actress... the whole nation knew it

0

And I actually agree with you @Blueribbon, she has gotten better and better. I give her credit for how she is now compared to dwelling on her past mistakes/roles. She's finally coming around as an actress and better late/now than never.

Her part is decent to me in the trailer. Any more would be over acting. Wait for it.

the way some ppl argue FOR shin se kyung is lol. She may have gotten better but is she good? heck No. Her acting is not as bad as before but does she still have a bunch of flaws? Yup. Do some people still think she's a bad and/or horrible actress? Sadly, yes. Emoting is very important factor to be a convincing actress. Her male co-stars can give her tips on how to express from the eyes better and learn how to show the character's feelings/reactions by changing the face more.

Nah. Some people are just optimistic because they really want the show and the actors to do well. There's no use whining so much when all actors are already set for their roles. Plus, some people might have decided leave the judgment for later when there's good amount of material to base opinions on.

0

@Nana
Actually some people are 'just' being optimistic but on the other hand, SOME people are trying too hard to defend SSK who is still mediocre at most....despite her improvement. Things can backfire. Do not get your hopes too high especially when it comes to someone known for bad acting in the past. She was decent in TGWSS but she might really suck in this drama. Lee Yeon improved in a contemporary drama Miss Korea but right after that she sucked in her new drama Hwajung and got plenty of negative comments against her acting.

0

Shin se-kyung is better than before but still, her acting is gonna be terrible/really bad next to Kim Myung Min....A-list top actor like him is going to cream her...

0

@ Rhonda

Well, i won't let some people's assumptions and premature critiques ruin my anticipation for the show. I am confident that the male leads will be awesome in this. Also, the director and writers are nothing short of creative geniuses. Nothing's gonna dampen my mood for this saeguk :-)

SSK is just one beautiful but unlucky girl with all the hate and badmouthing going on. She should take all that crap as a challenge and do better with each project.

0

Why are people being so defensive about how much she is such a bad actress. If you think so, then okay. WE GET IT. You don't like her. GET OVER YOURSELF. Move on, watch something else.

She's in the drama and that's that. Let's give her a chance, is all. You can't count your chickens before they hatch.

0

I think, with all the projects given to her, she should gradually improve, right. She must. This big project will be a great way to develop as an actress.

This looks so good and I like everyone involved. I'm hoping to finally be able to finish a saeguk one day. I always quit somewhere near the end; I don't know why that seems to be when every character starts to tax on my last nerve. But then again, I haven't tried the ones I hear really good things about like Arang and the Magistrate and Tree With Deep Roots so maybe I will try watching those as well. I have time since I usually binge watch dramas when they're over, lol.

Agree with you @AA. its not their fault.

i do like them as well, even im not so into kpop. I like them when they are in variety show, but only some idols are only meant to be actors. not their fault coz their original talent is to sing and dance, but because of industry demand, they need to become actor as well, which for sure so burdensome for them.

I haven't seen any of the director's work though.

i do hope the reunion between YAI and SSK will be able to make ppl forget about their last messy drama "Fashion King". lol. at first i was slightly hope that Yoo Ah In will be reunited with Kim So Eun, but it never meant to be coz the offer never be given to her..

Baek Jin Hee turned down the female lead. Now with Shin Se kyung, i have a positive hope for her. I was satisfied with her previous drama, but for sageuk im not really sure how she will carry such a heavy role. but considering that this drama will be focusing more on male character, so maybe her character is not that significant that can make turn drama into mess. and not to forget Jung Yumi, she is good actress that is really underrated.

There are a bunch of people who seem more receptive to Shin Se Kyung in saeguks than in her modern drama roles. I think she'll be just fine. Also she's worked with these people before (PD ad writer, I think) and they must like her if they are working with her again.

I dunno, I've always found Shin Se Kyung endearing so,I mean, she is just the cherry on top for me, lol. Also she does have chemistry with Yoo Ah In even though Fashion king squandered it and then literally killed it, lmao. So win win in my books.

Kim Myung-min is so worth it. He is truly the best. Ok I may not like the plot or the teasers themselves, BUT Kim Myung-min is ENOUGH to make me crave for this very drama til the very end. NOT only crave BUT love it daaaaay and night.

anyway, the writers already gave positive words and highly recommend her..thus i hope something good will turn out during the drama...even i wonder why she's always landing on drama, maybe she has lower payment (and it needed to save cost as this is a big production)?
