Oh My Ghostess: Episode 14

It’s a rough day to be Sun-woo, because there’s hardly a moment for him to process his complicated feelings before a new bomb gets dropped in his lap, which could very well implode his whole family. It only took fourteen episodes, but we finally have our three leads sleuthing their way towards the truth together, and whaddyua know—they make actual progress in the mystery.

EPISODE 14 RECAP

After reuniting outside ajusshi’s restaurant, Sun-woo and Bong-sun sit on the swings at the park, and he asks why she named her blog You Are My Sunshine. She’s surprised that he even knows about it at all, and instead of admitting that he’s a fan, he just acts like it’s obvious that he knows everything about her.

He wants to know who Kyung-mo is and why he took a hit from the guy, though he says he doesn’t mind so much since it was a weak hit and he found out where she was staying. Bong-sun explains that Kyung-mo is Soon-ae’s kid brother, and that he must’ve been drawn to her when she was possessed.

Sun-woo scoffs that she’s made fools of a lot of guys, and wonders aloud which one he himself was drawn to—Bong-sun or the ghost? Well, that’s the question, isn’t it? He asks about some of the moments they’ve shared, and she admits forlornly that they were all with the ghost, except for the bike-thief-catching.

She confirms that the sex-crazed version of her was the ghost too, and he sighs that he feels like he did something wrong without knowing it, like he somehow cheated on her with a ghost. He admits that her sudden change in personality did draw him in, and that he was always so harsh on her in the past because he identified with her passive nature so much.

He acknowledges that he fell for the ghost and her epic aegyo, and Bong-sun says quietly that the ghost unni genuinely liked him too. She’s startled when a different ghost passes by in front of them, and when she tells Sun-woo what she saw, he crouches near her, complaining that she felt the need to share.

He’s so scared that he jumps when she puts a hand on his shoulder, but he quickly grabs onto it and declares, “I’m never letting go of this hand from now on! And I’m not saying that because I’m scared.” Hee.

Soon-ae collects her thoughts and heads to Dad’s place to talk to Bong-sun, and hides when she sees her arriving hand-in-hand with Sun-woo, looking like a happy couple. Bong-sun doesn’t want to go back to Sun, so he agrees to look into somewhere else for her to go, and reluctantly sends her in.

Soon-ae is waiting inside and chides Bong-sun for going outside when she warned her to be careful. She shares her recent discovery that Officer Sung-jae is somehow involved in Eun-hee’s hit-and-run case, and that she’s possessing a police officer to get more info. Soon-ae: “But you’re still my favorite body, so don’t be jealous!” Ha.

They agree not to tell Sun-woo until they know for sure if it’s true, both worried about how it’ll affect Sun-woo and his sister. Bong-sun asks if she’s okay, and Soon-ae waves off her concern, insisting that she has more important things to worry about, like her death, to be mooning over Chef.

Sung-jae mulls over what he knows so far about Soon-ae and Bong-sun, and wonders where Soon-ae has hidden herself now. He glances over at his locked drawer, and gack—he notices that the lock has been fiddled with. He opens it up and finds the diary still inside.

Sun-woo comes home and looks up the Sunshine blog again, wondering if maybe it’s named Sunshine because of him. He calls Bong-sun acting like he’s just checking to make sure she turned her phone on like he ordered, but ends up lingering on the line long after she’s fallen asleep.

The assistant chefs want to hire a new maknae to handle the workload, and Sun-woo agrees to let them interview and hire someone new. Joon is the only one to speak up against the idea in case Bong-sun comes back, but the others say that they could just have two assistants then.

Soon-ae returns to the police station but finds Sung-jae’s drawer unlocked and the diary gone. His partner Officer Han is especially on edge as he awaits the lab results from the evidence he found, and practically jumps out of his skin when Sung-jae approaches. I really wish you’d be less obvious, because Sung-jae looks like he’s onto you.

The assistant chefs hold job interviews for a new maknae, and ugghhhhh, it’s such a rampantly sexist set of interviews, I can’t even. Suffice to say, they hire a hot girl purely for her looks, much to Joon’s dismay (thank goodness one of you isn’t a Neanderthal), and then of course it goes fantastically awry once they put her to work.

She can’t touch snails because they’re gross, she actually thinks it’s okay to call Sun-woo oppa, and talks on the phone during her shift. Sun-woo explodes and tells her to get the hell out of his kitchen before he starts swearing at her, and tells Min-soo he’ll no longer be interviewing anyone. Really, it’s your fault for thinking that guy could be trusted to pick an employee for their skills.

Sun-woo immediately calls Bong-sun and begs her to reconsider taking her job back. He takes a second call from Sung-jae’s partner Officer Han, who asks him to meet over an urgent matter concerning his sister’s accident. He asks Sun-woo not to say anything to Sung-jae about this, which alarms him.

They agree to meet, and Officer Han heads over straight from the crime lab, where he’s just been given proof that Sung-jae was the one who attacked him in the parking lot. He sniffles back tears as he drives, and Sung-jae radios him to ask where he’s gone. Uh-oh.

When he’s stopped at a light, suddenly his passenger door opens and Sung-jae hops in, dressed in his all-black killing uniform. He picks up the envelope in the seat and gives the creeeepiest smile ever, and the next thing we know, the police car is tumbling down the side of a cliff as Sung-jae watches from above.

Officer Han’s phone rings as Sun-woo waits and waits, and Sung-jae lights the evidence on fire.

After getting word of what happened, Sun-woo runs to Officer Han’s funeral in shock and disbelief. Sung-jae is there, of course, taking care of his partner’s loved ones.

Sun-woo is about to tell him that they were going to meet today, but remembers at the last second that Officer Han warned him not to say anything to Sung-jae. He keeps his mouth shut, thank goodness, and seems to become wary of Sung-jae.

Medium Unni is worried as well when she learns of Officer Han’s death from Mom, and realizes that all of these events are connected to Eun-hee’s accident. Sun-woo heads to the restroom but hangs back for a second when he sees Sung-jae at the sink, and it sends a chill down his spine when Sung-jae whistles happily and flashes a smile in the mirror.

Bong-sun and Soon-ae are convinced that Sung-jae killed his partner, and decide that it’s time to tell Sun-woo what they know.

Eun-hee is emotional over Officer Han’s death and worried that something bad will happen to Sung-jae too, and Sun-woo tries to reassure her.

Bong-sun calls to say that they need to talk, and when she arrives at the restaurant, she tells him that the ghost is here with her. Sun-woo backs away and looks around fearfully, but invites Soon-ae to sit down at the table, cautiously offering her a chair.

Bong-sun tells him that they think Sung-jae is responsible for his partner’s death, and that all of this is due to his involvement in Eun-hee’s hit-and-run. Soon-ae believes that he’s tied to her death as well, and asks Sun-woo to recover her diary because there must be evidence inside.

Sun-woo is floored, but he admits that it isn’t unbelievable. He tells Bong-sun about Officer Han wanting to meet with him just before dying, and he heads out for a drink on his own to clear his head.

He still can’t reconcile the Sung-jae he’s known for three years with the person who’d commit those crimes, and he thinks back to the moment when Sung-jae saved his sister from killing herself, and how happy she was when they announced their engagement. Sung-jae was always the picture-perfect loving husband from the start.

After some soju, Sun-woo can’t help himself and returns to the funeral home to see Sung-jae. Sun-jae walks him out and says he’ll probably be here all night, and Sun-woo stops to say that he and Eun-hee depend on him a lot. It’s abrupt enough that it raises Sung-jae’s suspicions, though he responds in kind, and that they’re the only family he has.

Sun-woo comes home to find Bong-sun waiting for him on the stairs because she was worried about him. He asks what she’d do if he were drunk—piggyback him? She says she would, and he laughs that getting a ride from Stalker (the dog, heh) would be better.

Bong-sun worries that he’s going through such a difficult time, and he sighs that the bombs have been dropping nonstop lately between her and Sung-jae. She coaches him on finding some inner peace, a life lesson she learned from Kung Fu Panda.

He laughs at first, but when she says earnestly that she’s been through a lot of rough things in her life and that finding inner peace has helped her cope, he listens intently. She tells him that all things—happy or sad—will pass, and he says that it’s a relief that she’s by his side.

She stretches out her arms and offers him a hug, and he jokes that her personality has changed—is she possessed? She assures him that she’s Bong-sun, arms open wide, and he melts into her hug with a sigh. She pats him on the back and tells him that everything’s going to be okay.

Sun-woo goes to Mom’s house early the next morning and makes sure that Sung-jae won’t be coming home before he asks Eun-hee and Mom to make him breakfast. He hurries into the study to look for the diary, and finally finds it in the secret suitcase.

But ack, Sung-jae has decided to come home to change clothes before work. Thankfully Eun-hee requests his help opening a jar in the kitchen, and it’s just long enough for Sun-woo to put the room back as it was and rush off. Mom is confused since Sun-woo’s the one who asked for breakfast, and Sung-jae watches curiously.

Bong-sun takes Dad up on the offer to stay a little longer, which makes him happy since it’s like having a daughter around again. Bong-sun says that her parents died when she was young so she has no memory of her father, but would’ve loved to have a dad like him. Aw.

She asks cautiously why Soon-ae might’ve killed herself, when she looks like such a happy person in all her photos. Dad sighs that he doesn’t understand it either. His biggest regret in life is not answering the phone that night—he missed a call from Soon-ae the night she died because his battery was dead.

She left him a voicemail with no words, just some indecipherable sounds, and to this day he can’t bring himself to delete it. He steps outside when a visitor comes by, and Bong-sun looks down at his phone. Listen to the message! Do eeeet!

Sun-woo and Bong-sun go to Medium Unni’s house to meet with Soon-ae, who asks to see her diary. Bong-sun takes out Dad’s phone too, which she poached for the message that Soon-ae left, in the hopes that it’ll be another piece of evidence.

Sun-woo asks Bong-sun to include him in the conversation and tell him what the ghost is saying. Medium Unni thinks that’s too bothersome to do and tells Soon-ae to possess her instead. Yes, please.

The instant she’s in Unni’s body, she looks over at Sun-woo with adoring eyes and calls him Chef, and he tries not to be totally weirded out by all this. They flip through the diary and Soon-ae stops them at the number 2368 that’s scribbled on the last page, and all she knows is that it’s unfamiliar to her.

Bong-sun plays the voicemail that Soon-ae sent to Dad the night she died, and it’s a series of beeps. Sun-woo figures out that the sounds are from a phone keypad, and replays it until he gets all the numbers: 535-2368. They assume it’s a phone number, but the number doesn’t exist when they try calling.

Soon-ae berates herself for not being able to remember her own messages, and Sun-woo tells her not to strain herself to remember, belatedly tacking on a polite ending because he doesn’t really know how to address her anymore.

Bong-sun contemplates the number and asks if one of the fives could be the letters for oh [five] instead, which could make it a license plate number. Sun-woo high-fives her and Soon-ae feels a little left out when they leave her hanging, but she says she’ll possess the police officer to look up the license plate.

Sun-woo walks Bong-sun home and wonders what happens if that license plate ends up being Sung-jae’s, and hopes that they’re wrong. He’s nervous about leaving Bong-sun here and asks if she won’t come back to stay with him at Sun, but Bong-sun doesn’t want to leave ajusshi so abruptly.

So-hyung is at the restaurant when Sun-woo returns, and he tells her that he has to quit the cooking show for personal reasons. She half-jokes that she’ll just have to lose her job then, and he’s too distracted with worry over Eun-hee that he just thanks her for getting him out of it.

Soon-ae heads to the police station, but finds Officer Kang wailing on Sung-jae’s shoulder over his partner’s death. Soon-ae waits impatiently for her to separate herself from Sung-jae, and possesses her when she comes outside to dry her tears.

She heads inside and goes straight to the computer to look up the license plate, though she has to try a number of passwords to even get past the login screen. Eep, she’s acting so suspicious around Sung-jae, it’s making me nervous.

She finally gets logged in and hurriedly types in the license plate number… and Sung-jae’s car registration pops up. She closes all the screens and rushes outside to call Bong-sun, and tells her that she must’ve tried to leave Sung-jae’s license plate as a message before she died.

She asks Bong-sun to tell Chef and agrees to meet later, but as soon as she hangs up, Sung-jae approaches from behind and muses that he didn’t know Officer Kang had taken such an interest in him.

He heard everything and asks why she’s so curious about his car, and when she tries to walk past him, he grabs her by the throat and leans in menacingly: “Who are you?” She struggles to breathe, and then suddenly Sung-jae’s phone rings, and the melody brings Soon-ae’s memories flooding back.

She flashes back to the night of her death, when she witnessed Eun-hee lying in the middle of the street after Sung-jae hit her with his car (twice? I think he rolls over her a second time, which… shudder). And then later when she’s lying on his bathroom floor, his ringtone is the last thing she hears before dying.

Officer Kang passes out, and that forces Soon-ae out of her body. Sung-jae shoves Officer Kang aside and smiles as he looks past her: “You’ve appeared at last, Shin Soon-ae.” Aaaaaaaah ruuuuuuun!

COMMENTS

This episode can’t really compare to the emotional payoffs of the recent episodes before it, but it was necessary to move our plot forward, and frankly I’ve been waiting and waiting for the show to focus on Soon-ae’s death. The mystery has taken such a backseat to the romance that it almost felt like an hour spent catching everyone up on what we’ve already suspected for quite some time. And it’s another instance where I would’ve preferred to let Sun-woo be conflicted for a little longer—his disbelief-to-acceptance turnover rate has been on hyper-speed since Episode 13, which does make the last quarter of the show feel somewhat rushed. Ultimately it’s fine because we’ve known for weeks that Sung-jae is evil and that he’s running around killing people, and I can’t argue that our good guys haven’t wasted a lot of precious time focused on hormones instead of crime-solving.

Now that we’ve confirmed the likely scenario—that Soon-ae witnessed Eun-hee’s hit-and-run and Sung-jae killed her before she could say anything to cover up the first crime—I’m more curious about what possessed him to save Eun-hee from killing herself and then of all things, to marry her. Is there some kind of sick satisfaction in having her believe that he’s her savior, when in fact he’s responsible for her greatest tragedy? Or worse, does he actually love her, and did he orchestrate all of it in order to make her feel indebted to him? I can’t tell with him because his violence seems random unless he’s killing specifically to cover up his past crimes. It’s horrible to think that Soon-ae might suffer twice at his hands, but this time I trust Sun-woo and Bong-sun to come to her rescue.

It was great to finally get Soon-ae, Bong-sun, and Sun-woo in a room together, partly because we can actually move forward in solving the mystery when they put their heads together, but mostly because of all the awkward lingering feelings that are still unresolved between them. I really appreciated Sun-woo’s honesty today, because the whole picture really is more complicated than him falling for just one or the other—he’s cared about Bong-sun and worried about her from the start, but admits that it was her sudden change in personality that made him look at her differently, and he fell for Soon-ae. The fact that he doesn’t know how to separate the two, or that he worries that he cheated on her inadvertently, is enough to ease my concerns with the problematic love triangle.

Sometimes all it takes is having the characters voice my concerns out loud to each other—they don’t have to come up with a pat answer, but I do need to know that these things bother them, that it’s unclear where his feelings begin and end for Soon-ae, and that both Sun-woo and Bong-sun are worried about the kind of relationship they can build on their rocky foundation. But they’ve already demonstrated how supportive and loving they can be, and how much Sun-woo can’t stand to be apart from Bong-sun, and how much that affection builds up her confidence in turn. She’s become so bright and full of life, and now she’s the first to reach out to him and offer comfort and warmth, whether he’s afraid of ghosts or scared for his family, and he’s the one begging her to take her job back because no one else is as good. You’ve come a long way, Na Bong-sun.

Thank you for the recap!! Is it just me or the editing is choppy today? Scenes got switched suddenly without any transition. They are talking on the phone, then someone is drinking water, he is talking to BS then a car drove away...LOVE that Chef recognized that BS has a crazy and perky side as well. So cute!!

You are not the only one! I thought my computer had a glitch. I think the production team is pressed for time and it's showing.

I agree with both comments here. I noticed as well that the editing was choppy, and that scenes got switched suddenly without any transition. I don't think it was the 1st time though. But yeah, there was a lot more of that in this ep. And that could be a reflection of the production being pressed for time, as aafa83 pointed out.

I had some questions related to this ep., and I was wondering if anyone might have some answers, or thoughts:
1-What was it, that the other chef was shaking in his hand, when the pretty girl left (after she got fired by SW)? 2-Does anyone know the different uses or meanings of "Hyung-nim?" I feel that I have seen it being used in different circumstances, when I thought it was only being used in one way. I am now thinking that I could be wrong. Is "Hyung-nim" a more formal and respectful way for a man to call another man, to whom he is close to? (So, a more formal way than "Hyung?") 3-SJ said to SW that he would have to play the role of principal mourner (when Buddy Cop died)? What is "a principal mourner?" Would that be the role a 1st born son would play at his father's funeral (So, was that the role Park Yun-chun played at his dad's funeral? I think I remember reading something about that, after his father had passed away. So I was curious). 4-What does honey water do? (if you are drunk, or not feeling OK?) I think BS asked Chef if she should bring him 'honey water," (when they were on the rooftop). 5-I was also wondering, why could Shaman Unni be possessed (by SA)? Was she weak? I thought SA could only possess weak women?

I really loved this ep. IJH is such a good actor, I really love how he portrays his character, down to the little details. All 4 leads are really good (all the actors and actresses, really), even those who are in a cameo role (Buddy cop, and the new female cop). I also really like the actress who plays Shaman Unni, she is really good. I loved how she did the aegyo with SW, once SA entered her body. And I loved how SW (JJS) was creeped out. It was very clear that he would NOT be attracted to SA in that body, which tells me that the physical appearance of the body SA possesses mattered, for SW to have been attracted to SA, as a ghost.

Hi @Ivoire!

I noticed in Healer, the coffee shop ahjussi called Young Shin's dad Hyung-nim. I think it's used to indicate high respect. I have yet to read on this more though.

And about the honey-water, honey is actually used for a lot of remedies. I take a teaspoon of it whenever I have colds or cough rather than taking meds. It helps with your anti-bodied and your immunity as well. It's soothing so that's probably why BS offered it to Chef.

Hi Ivoire
Your questions:
1-"What was it, that the other chef was shaking in his hand" ... He was shaking a white ink marker in preparation for writing on the 'black board' outside the restaurant. We have to shake the pen first (I think there's a metal ball inside to stir up the ink) to even out the ink inside before writing with some kinds of markers.

2-'Does anyone know the different uses or meanings of “Hyung-nim?” '... @Chesens is right. -nim is added to give more honor and respect to the one being called by ___-nim. I hear it added to many names people call others. I did not really consider it as being more formal, because it's used among close friends too, but in a formal setting, it would be more likely used.

3-"SJ said to SW that he would have to play the role of principal mourner" ... Yes, the chief mourner who represents the family in greeting visitors, receiving their condolences, etc. Usually a role played by the oldest son or closest male in the family (I think) but if there are no suitable male members of the family, then the females take over. It's a role that can be played by a close friend of the family, to help out the family members who are too old or all female or too young etc.

4-"What does honey water do?" ... Again I think @Chesens is right. Honey helps in healing and overall good health, especially certain types of Manuka Honey. They can even be applied on open wounds and have antiseptic qualities.

5- "I was also wondering, why could Shaman Unni be possessed (by SA)? Was she weak? I thought SA could only possess weak women?" ... Once again I jump on my complaint hobby horse to complain that this show really needs to give us some explanation as to the rules of possession and of what ghosts can do. @Ivoire you saw my rant in the previous ep thread. My take on this is that shamans are supposed to be able to channel spirits and can allow spirits to take over their bodies. Since she gave Soon Ae permission, Soon Ae could possess her.

Thanks for the update.
I think that SJ was not "fully " possessed at the time of the hit and run. That only after the murder be lost his soul.
I love how chef needs BS. It was so cute how he was trying to figure out when the ghost was there and when BS was in charge.
I will be sad to see this drama end.

All these theories are interesting, and they make sense. I hope that the drama will address all of our questions in this week's episodes, and not leave us hanging. I do remember seeing SJ,when he was younger, on the floor. He was weak, and it looked as if he had been physically abused or beaten. That evil spirit came, and entered his body. And now it seems that the evil spirit never left, having found a good host, in SJ's body.

The other chefs had me LOL, when they were interviewing the female candidates. The way they were disappointed, when they found out the 1st female candidate was married, with a child (I think?), and how, as soon as they saw the 2nd female, they clapped and congratulated her as they offered her the job (without interviewing her first). They were so giddy for having a new "hot" assistant. They looked like 5 year olds who had been given a new "shiny" toy.

Officer Choi was possessed by an evil spirit when he was a teenage boy, and stayed possessed. Evil spirits posses evil humans and stay in possession of that body forever. That's what the shaman said to Soon Ae.

An earlier episode showed that the possession happened when he was younger in an orphanage... I think he loved her and thought crippling her and making her indebted to him was the way to get the girl....

Theories theories!

I think that maybe, like how Suhbingo was saying that both the human and the evil spirit become one and cannot be differeniated, that SJ has some of his human desires still present. Since he was an orphan, his desire I assume would be to have family, so I think that may be why he married her in the first place. To have family.

Especially when seeing some of the scenes at the moms home when its lively with family squabbles, etc, SJ seems genuinely happy.

I thought the Shaman Unni acting as SA was great! I find it interesting how Chef could stand BS (even when she was still very shy and kept apologizing) and tolerate her, and yet he had no patience for the new pretty girl. I can't help but wonder if in the past, he might have tolerated the new girl for a few days (before firing her), however now, after having had BS at his restaurant (whom the other chefs miss, by the way), he cannot stand whiny and pretentious girls in his kitchen.

I was so nervous when Chef was going through SJ’s stuff, I was like, “please, don’t get caught.” I was holding my breath the whole time. And that instrumental music was not helping. I was so relieved, when SW managed to leave the room before SJ got there.

@ paper,

And if you feel very sad, guess what? You can just rewatch it again, right?! :-)

I am so in love with JJS's acting. I have already talked about how I feel about all the actors and actresses in this show (including the veteran actors/actresses), so I will leave it at that.
I did love how SW was scared about the ghost (when they were on the swing), and how he pretended not to be scared and yet caught BS's hand, and held on to it for dear life. That was so cute, and so endearing.

Everytime Sung-jae came on the scene I actually feared for the characters. Have to admit, I thought that it was going to be his wife he was going to kill, not his partner. But it does make sense. I'm so glad everything's pretty much out in the open now so I don't have to feel uncomfortable with people being left in the dark anymore :')
Thanks for recapping so quickly!

It gave me chills too. The chills started when he opened that damn car door and came in all smiling. All the while I wonder if the actor will need therapy after this. I remember a Happy Together episode: a veteran actress said Hollywood actors see psychologists after a difficult role. Korean actors go on a happy holiday to let it all go. The young man who played Joffrey in Game of Thrones decided to quit acting and continue with charity and social work. If Joo Hwan acted so well that we hated that character, or gave us fear, I am sure he had to go through a certain darkness himself.

@ songbird,

I agree with you, IJH is really great at making SJ feel spooky and scary. I love his intensity as well, and how he can go from acting sweet and loving (towards his wife), and scary and intimidating at times. I think that the preview for ep.14 made it look like SJ was going to kill his wife and not his colleague. And that that was done on purpose. I am waiting for SJ to make a monumental mistake, or a series of mistakes that might make it a little easier for BS, SW and Suhbingo to catch him, with the help (I hope) of the other police officers. I am really curious about how this drama will end. I really hope the writing for the last two episodes will be strong.

And now I am curious as well about what it takes for IJH to play such an evil and manipulative character. His acting is very convincing. I hope he will be OK after this drama is over. I wish we could see the four main leads on a show like Happy Together, so we could hear how they felt portraying their characters, and what this drama meant for them.

Thanks for the recap, GF!

I seriously love this show. Chef and BS are ridiculously cute together, and I've definitely sympathized with BS's character throughout the course of the show, which is why I LOVE her new personality. Still BS, but a more sunny, confident side.

But AHH how scary is Sung Jae??? I think my heart almost bounced out of my chest while watching this episode. Seriously, his smile in the mirror made my spine shiver too.

Despite the late developments, I haven't found any major faults in the writing yet, and I have high hopes for next week! Hope this show gets the amazing ending it deserves.

I agree with this, "Chef and BS are ridiculously cute together, and I’ve definitely sympathized with BS’s character throughout the course of the show, which is why I LOVE her new personality. Still BS, but a more sunny, confident side."

Chef and BS are so good together. I LOVED how he ran to her, how he hugged her, how he spoke to her (with so much emotions in his voice), the way he was caressing her hair, and the way he was looking at her, etc.. JJS just does that so well. I love how SW lets himself be vulnerable in BS's presence, even though he tries to be manly, and I find that endearing. And like you, I LOVE the new BS as well. How she comforted Chef, and how she went to him, because she was worried about him. I loved how, even when Chef made fun of her "inner peace" talk, she stayed with it, and he could see how much she cares about him, and how much she loves him. Those two are really good to each other, and I love how they reach out to each other. By the way, is Kung Fu Panda a TV show?

I also loved that Chef asked BS, "how are you going to take responsibility? (for the fact that you left the restaurant)?" I have often seen the girl ask that to the guy, so it was refreshing to see SW ask that to BS. I SOOO LOVED that all the boys were missing her at the restaurant. That was heartwarming, considering how they didn't use to take her seriously at the beginning.

It'll be interesting to see Bong Sun in action in terms of getting to know Chef, because one of the reason Why he started to like Soon Ae was that she can see past his facade and I hope Bong Sun will do the same but with her own touch.

How many episodes do we have??

So, if Sung-Jae has been possessed since he was a teenager, he must have been killing for a long time... When he ran over the sister, he was wearing his black killing uniform, which makes me wonder if she was a target or an incidental. As for running over her a second time...he probably figured that to reverse was too much trouble, may as well continue going forward.

Don't most murderers return to the scene of the crime? He seems to like to wallow in their misery / gloat that he hasn't been caught. We saw it when he continued to patronize the father's restaurant, even when he and his partner were the only two eating there...ever (how do they stay in business?). Maybe he also wants to keep an eye on things?

Officer Han's death is just as sad, but sigh of relief the funeral was not for Eun Hee, which was my fear from yesterday's preview. This episode was edge-of-your-seat intense. Why do people not lock their car doors?! Why would Soon Ae make a phone call outside the police station?! (And why do Bong Sun and Hot Girl never wear gloves while washing dishes?) I kept screaming "Hurry up!" as Sun Woo was looking for the diary and "Run!" as Sung Jae strangled Soon Ae. Shouldn't the girls also tell Sun Woo Sung Jae tried to kill Bong Sun? I know that would just add to his worries, but he should know the extent of danger his girlfriend and sister are in.

Sun Woo getting over Soon Ae so quickly still makes no sense to me, but this episode did a good job at showing why he belongs with Bong Sun (besides the obvious reason that she's alive). Her inner peace reenactment was adorable and proves she has permanently come out of her shell. But my favorite thing is Bong Sun can now share her fear of ghosts since Sun Woo is even more afraid than her. Though she can never rid herself of her ability to see ghosts, hopefully, they won't scare her as much now and she can finally experience a normal life.

Thanks for the recap, girlfriday!

Unpopular opinion ahead.

Chef was never interested in Soon-Ae.

Soon-Ae unlocked Bong-Sun and gave him permission to be involved with Bong-Sun.

HA! While I believe that I don't expect anyone else to sign on to that interpretation of events.

However this idea might have more traction. Soon-Ae, while charming and fun, was a manifestation of Bong-Sun mental illness in Sun-Woo's mind. Because he was interested in Bong-Sun he was willing to accept her medical condition as a part of her. When you love someone with an "illness/condition" you don't love the disease, but you accept it as a part of them.

So the de-possessed Bong-Sun can be seen as a cured Bong-Sun. Or if not cured, instead of being a manic depressive she is someone who has visual and auditory hallucinations; Sun-Woo is now working on accepting this new stage of Bong-Sun disease.

I don't think this is unpopular though because I too have the same opinion. Although it's a little sad on Soon Ae's side, she ought to find her killer rather than a love life because that is clearly not possible unless our writers changed. Hihi

I remember the doctor informing SW about BS's bi-polar disorder as manic-depressive, with SA being manic and BS (original BongSun) being depressive. Chef then acknowleges that he has only ever seen her in her depressive state.

Therefore, I argue that Chef not only sees SA as a manisfestation of her illness but he also sees original BS as part of her illness too. So, I disagree that 'de-possessed Bong-Sun can be seen as a cured Bong-Sun' because 'de-possessed Bong-Sun would be seen as a depressive Bong-Sun'.

That is to say 'original' BongSun cos BS has progressed (if some what miraculously) in leaps and bounds since the earlier episodes.

It is fine with me to disagree.

That is how I experience the show.

For me, Bong-Sun is probably an naturally introverted thoughtful person. Her haunting made her shy-which is different from being introverted.

The thing that eases Bong-sun's shyness was not her interaction with Sun-Woo, but her friendship with Soon-Ae. She became less afraid, counter-intuitively more present in her own life, and therebye available to Sun-Woo.

THat is my experience of the drama, and it seems to differd notably from her.

I don't think that Chef really has gotten over Soon-ae, because I think that he is still trying to get his head around the fact that 1. Ghosts exist in the world, and 2. Trying to separate Soon-ae and Bong-sun.

I mean he hasn't seen an actual picture of Soon-ae, so he can't yet really put a face to the person. Add that to the fact that he still thought that the manic/Soon-ae in Bong-sun was just purely Bong-sun. I think that if Bong-sun and Sun-woo continue to have conversations like they had at the swing where they slowly address this complicated issue, which I can so see them doing, without shying away from it, he will be able to resolve his feelings properly. We may see that in the next two episodes, but then again he hasn't had much time to rest going from the Bong-sun, Soon-as thing now to this Sung-jae mess.

He needs a retreat! They need to take that long awaited vacation!! *wink**wink* x}

sigh....this drama is a constant source of disappointment in the last eps when it comes to the romance. 1) just HOW did BS change? She was unconscious throughout most of the drama. So how the hell did her character develop? 2) i am just.....not even going to talk about SW's complete speedy recovery with no thought paid to SA apart from that one dialogue at the start which is laughably insufficient considering the wtf-ery of epic proportions happened. 3) i am also not going to talk about how the writer treated BS as a cameo character when she was supposed to be the one to get the guy. i am trying SO HARD not to go into a full-blown caps-lock rant.

Hm, I guess I can help you with an idea for question number 1..
I think that BS character develop because she felt that she is not alone anymore.
Before, people just outcast her, and it makes her afraid to even have decent conversation with anyone. She basically isolates herself from other people.
but now she can have a comfy talk with even ghost (SA), and she finds out that chef has been caring for her even in her true form, so i guess it gives her a little courage to show her real self, the "neutral" BS, not the timid one like in ep 1, because she gained a friend and a love.

But I do agree that it's a bit...strange, to have SW admit that he did fell for the ghost, but didn't try to find the least bit of information about the ghost. I mean, I'm on SW/BS ship, but I would like him too to have a solid ground on his decision about choosing BS than SA, I mean, other than the fact that she's the one who's alive and physically it was BS body which spent most of their time.

But again, that's just my thinking, I don't know if anyone have the same thoughts with me :)

This is my take (I commented this for ep 12 too): If somehow I’ve been convinced that indeed I had been dating a ghost, no matter how wonderful those moments were, errr, I think I would not want to remember those moments anymore! And I doubt I'd be curious about the ghost - I wouldn't want to think about it anymore!

Say if I were SW, and later I was shown Soon Ae’s photo or something (hey SW, this is the ghost you like), I don’t think I’ll be able to connect much with SA.

It might have been different if SW had known SA while she was alive even briefly or had seen her around. But if it’s a complete stranger, it seems weird, no matter how good looking, friendly or sweet that ghost is.

And from what we see from this episode, SW did seem a bit freaked out at the mention of ghosts and in the presence of SA. For him, he just likes Bong Sun, possessed or not.

Just as he has to reconnect more with who Bong Sun really is now in order to love her and be with her-if he was going to end up with SA he'd have to do the same with her ghost form-only he can't even SEE her.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. but my point was that they should have spent more time on this part. instead, what they show is that he is completely happy with BS & SA is the farthest thing on his mind. they are not showing the disparities between SA & BS that he finds out. so far, as even seen in ep 12, SW knows way way way more about SA. likes, dislikes, thoughts, moods, etc. now that BS is back, she will have completely different attributes. they are not showing him gradually sorting out all the differences. they just directly jumped to "i love you". i am not saying he should go & try to find out about SA. no. that thought didn't even cross my mind. what i want is for him to realise that he liked a completely different person, acknowledge it & to gradually get accustomed to BS. instead he just easily swapped the two like "oh i am fine as long as the face is the same". there is no unsettlement on the differences. they are all fine & dandy. the whole ghost thing might as well have not happened.

what i didn't like about this entire show was how they handled BS & SW's relationship. seriously, if you were going to do this, & not even delve into all the problems that would arise after the ghost has left, what was even the point of having SA possess BS for so long? they should have just had SA coach BS from outside her body the entire time. it seems to me as if the writers just used SA's character to hook the audience in, all "look! have you ever seen a heroine/top actress like this?" & once that was done, they just threw her out cause they didn't want to break the kdrama rule that decreed that a sexual or flawed female character can never be the lead or get the guy, that that honor only goes to the pure, innocent, golden-hearted Mary Sue girl.

IMO, I it's hard for SW to feel something for SA when he didn't know her. She was just a part of BS' bipolar personality. The writer made a point of showing us how a SW with no emotional attachment treats an employee that can't do the job, he fires them. With all the crazy things Bong Sun was doing, he never once fired her because there was something special about her.

I do think the writer is trying to have it both ways, most of the time we have Chef telling Bong Sun that he liked the neutral her--if he truly fell for SA as he's now saying, why only say that to Bong Sun about being neutral and not caring for the manic side of her? I don't like that the writer keeps clouding the issue. I had always thought that SA was to help SW see how polar opposite Bong Sun's personality could be and appreciate Bong Sun that we see behind closed doors.

The fact that SW didn't seem to miss the manic side of Bong Sun's personality when SA left her body was also very telling. He was happy with the neutral BS so I don't know why the writer is now almost dismissing everything that SW said earlier.

0

erm. Chef didn't say he love BS yet.

0

I think him loving BS is very, strongly implied. Strongly implied. He be putting the ring on her finger soon.

0

@ Sweetpea

I agree that Chef probably cared for BS from the beginning. But was it ImSecretlyInLoveWithYou-caring or NeedToHelpAndProtectYou-caring? There is a great difference. Whether it was the writing or not, I never felt that it was romantically inclined but rather Chef empathising with her meek persona and wanting to protect her. I seem to remember him implying somewhere in the earlier episodes that the reason he disliked her was because she was so similar to his meek/ bullied self before he grew out of it.

As to his tolerance of SA in BS's body, I also seem to recall that he believed his treatment of her had exacerbated her bi-polar disorder and so became more tolerant of her antics (His flashbacks when the doctor told him the illness was brought on by stress).

As for his preference of her neutral state, that doesn't necessarily mean Bong Sun. Bi-Polar disorder does mean two extremes but it also exists on a spectrum. Mania does not have to always mean top end manic outburst but simply heightened/enhanced emotions THAN NORMAL. SA was not always manic, there were obvious times when she was also neutral(ish). It was these times that Chef interacted with her the best, ie. the times he remembered at end of episode 12, and she was in a state he prefered.

But having only watched it once streamed, my memory may be wrong, so forgive me for any mistakes. Having loved this drama up to now, I am disappointed at the current turn of events but still do absolutely love the discussions and everybodies thoughts on Dramabeans!! It alway enhances the actual viewing experience 10X when there are people to discuss it with. XX

0

all this should have happened earlier. not in effing ep FOURTEEN. there's just two eps left!!! there is going to be no proper development to all the emotional climaxes. all this just points towards a rushed "SW: ok see yeah we had a thing but you are dead, BS is alive, so i am going to go to her. ok bye" in the, perhaps, last 10 mins of the show, followed by a scene of BS & SW living happily ever after. SW: ghost possession? pft, what ghost possession? BS has always been this way! lets go eat your favorite intestines BS! BS: no....i don't like them.... LOL Thanks for the laughs girl, I was down and depressed after all the crap that happened ...These "outrageous" mock situations (which could actually end up happening) did give me some comic relief...Please consider writing hilarious sarcastic scripts, you'll do well and go far!

Can't agree with you more, both on this post and the one on the bottom of the page...That damned Mary Sue is so freaking irritating I might just quit watching kdrama altogether if all the heroines (who end up getting all the goodies) have to have THAT personality as a prerequisite..Ugh! How uninspiring and BORING!! Obvious choice is obvious, and well, not logical or fair at all!

And I adore SA, but man were her culinary choices questionable lol "intestines"?? eek!

0

@ Christina

Yup, I agree with you as well. Guess it's a flaw in the writing. Maybe there could be some pressure from somewhere for the writer to have SA possess BS for so long. Maybe PBY lost some bet and had to do a lot of aegyo scenes.

There could be some crazy behind the scene going-ons... I can't help thinking of King of Dramas... hahaha

0

questionable culinary choices? don't judge the food of cultures you don't belong to....it's such an ethnocentric and racist thing to do.

0

@Sweetpea

I'm in agreement with your post.

Soon-Ae was a manifestation of Bong-Sun illness to Sun-Woo.

Also, my memory might not be right on this, but most of the interactions Sun-Woo checked with Bong-Sun to see who he was interacting with were the quieter more neutral/less manic interactions.

And surprising the only interaction were where she was actually present was the mania-like stopping the bicycle seat thief.

Wow, that's great observation! I rewatched those scenes of the three memories that he mentioned, and they seemed to be scenes where he's playing the protector.

swing scene (ep 10) - before that, she fell and he fussed over her foot (and she told him she liked him a lot)

motel-drunk scene (ep 9)

MT- trapped fridge scene (ep 8)

And yeah, like what you said, the bike seat theft scene (ep 7) seemed more manic! Plus, BS shone more - she got the coin for the drinks and she caught the thief.

Why didn't he ask who he was kissing? Wouldn't that be more interesting for him to know?

0

Surely if Chef understood BS had bipolar disorder and SA was the manisfestation of the manic phase of her illness, then by that reasoning, shouldn't the original BS persona be the depressive state of her illness?

So if the personality of both girls are manifestation of the extreme states of the illness, and Chef prefers a neutral state, then what exactly does that imply? That he does not like either girls original personality?

0

I think people have a tendency to assume [except in the presence of obvious extreme behavior] that the first aspect of a person we are introduced to is their true self. Hence the adage about first impression being important.

I think Sun-Woo thought the functioning but a little shy Bong-Sun was healthy/neutral, apologizing/retreating Bong-sun was the functionally depressive.

He called ghost-free Bong-Sun "the depressive" personality but amended his language to neutral later on. Neutral referred t both Bong-Sun and reflective Soon-Ae. I think Sun Woon's use of depressive was a result of him falling into the language of binary. Manic depressive actually has not two but three states.
Depressive/which can be almost non functioning
Neutral/healthy function which is what the world hopes for
Manic/a god like confidence.

Fully agree with you on the whole shortchanging us about the ultimate SW/SA romance that went on for 90% of the show...And totally agree about "why put SA front and center if in the end you're going to treat her like some stupid afterthought writer lady?!!" I can't get over how immature this part of the show has been treated or the feelings of the audience who've invested in THAT relationship are being totally overlooked!!

Stupid of the writer to even go there if you ask me, and stupid of her to think that by "Suddenly and magically BS' character/behaviors into what she was like when possessed by SA, we'd all somehow and again magically believe there was NEVER a divide between the two girls, that somehow they've magically merged into one and in order to save Chef's sanity and all the potential psychological and emotional anguish, we should completely forget about THAT OTHER GIRL who was the center of it all and for so long!!"

I just can't with this (to put it in chef's words) "instant" solution...I call total and utter BULLSHIT and since epi 12/13 I've lost all fait as well as interest in the drama, as it sold out it's integrity for the sake of appeasing the masses (as per usual in all kdramas) MEH is my final reaction to all of this!

Actually the romance with SA wasn't 90% or the drama. When I went back and reviewed the episodes, BS was in there more than I thought initially. I also noticed that the writer only told BS that he liked the neutral her. He also told BS that he liked her first--this was before any romance with SA. What I don't like is how the writer is now trying to say is that he fell for SA---then what is all this craziness about liking the neutral BS and not the manic SA from previous episodes. Also, it was SA that adopted BS personality when she became sweeter and not so trying to have sex at every opportunity.

Chef wouldn't have given SA a second glance if it wasn't for the fact he thought she was BS. He would have fired her the same way he did the other girl, but he put up with the possesses BS because he had feelings for her. However, this episode just messed things up for me.

"Chef wouldn’t have given SA a second glance if it wasn’t for the fact he thought she was BS"

How utterly biased of you to say this!! How did you come to this conclusion other than the shipping delusion you've convinced yourself with??!!

Have you perhaps listened to chef's confession on that Namsan tower where he lists EXACTLY when he fell for "SA" (I won't say BS well because none of the things he "lists/mentions" were things done by BS)...When BS herself acknowledged that fact, why in the world can't her shippers do the same? Baffles me to no end how much justification SW/BS shippers give to that "relationship" when it barely existed at all (starting from the blog argument and ending with the "I like the more neutral you" argument)...Both absurd IMO.

My counter argument about the "neutral you" is, chef never knew there could be any other person he's dealing with besides the girl that he knows the face of (i.e. BS), if he knew (if she hadn't lied to him all along) that the person he'd been interacting with (and developed a strong liking to) was NEVER her, that whole "neutral" bull would sound totally absurd even to HIS OWN EARS....The writer is confused as to the message she wanted to send...Did she want to present a "new strong, free-spirited, independent heroine and ask the audience to accept her, even if she doesn't fit the "kdrama mold" and simply got scared when all that outrage happened after epi 9 aired? Or does she not even know what she wants from the "Message" she was sending...Like AT ALL??!! I suspect the latter because to me, this new development makes ZERO sense!

"outrage after ep 9 aired" wait, what outrage? please don't tell me the writer suddenly changed the course of the drama because of people's opinions........that's way worse than bad writing.

@ Sweetpea

I see much of what you see.

You/a person care about someone, but discover that she might have a mental illness you try to be supportive. You might come to love that person, but not their disease.

Soon-Ae, as funny and charming as she was, was a disease to Sun-Woo's understanding.

I don't have the issues you have with Sun-Woo acknowledging 'falling for' the Ghost/disease. Because in the moments he cited the disease/the mania was not present. He thought it was Bong -Sun behaving in a manner that was perfectly believable for Bong Sun to behave in.

Therefore he assume being with Bong-Sun and saw all interaction through his "Bong-Sun I care for filter." Who you think you are with with color your interpretation of what's going on. For instance if I heard, "Gurl, you need to stop!" How I experience that depends very much on whether it is from my dear friend or from a random person in a department store.

I don't think Sun-Woo would have been as connected to Soon-Ae ghost personality had she shown up before him in any other woman's skin. In fact I suspect that he would have found her as distasteful as he found the female kitchen help hired to replace Bong-Sun. It was Bong-Sun personality and history with Sun-Woo that allowed him to tolerate and be charmed by Ghost-Ae sexual aggressive personality.

I wish more people experience the show the way I do; but with the interpretative arts, interpretation abounds. While one might see the yellow of the most important element in a VanGogh, others might see the quality of his brush strokes as the thing that makes the painting.

What I find most baffling are people who insist that not seeing as they see is a failure of intelligence instead as seeing it as a difference of perspective.

Thank God there are actually the "other" fans of the SW-SA loves-shipping side!!!!
Ive been following the show more on dramabeans than on video sites.. anyways, I totally agree that by focussing on one pair for sooooo long (damn it 12 episodes! +/-1) you CANNOT just throw the other lead / ghost character away, that carrying the show for more than 10 episodes and was the one who actually spent the MOST time with our Chef. And even given the first assumption that he became interested in the shy and quiet BS in the beginning, it was SA that he fell in love with. It was her crazy and direct way that got him hooked and pay more attention to BS. Her culinary skills..
BS, on the the hand was given too little time to develop any connection to Chef. And now, after over 11 episodes, the writers just revealed everything and threw everything they've built up so far away??? WTF? I dont get it! Its just not believable! I understand, that SW cant be together with a ghost that may leave soon anyway when everything gets resolved. But then they shouldn't have let her fall in love with SW or experience love and let her be the revenging ghost that she was seemingly supposed to be in the first place. So Im really disappointed the way they treat SA all of sudden, de-personalizing her character even if she is a ghost, and letting SW getting over the her so fast, because...in the end they want us to tell that she was only a ghost and BS a living person, so more convenient this way. Not sure whether I will continue watching the end of this triangle love mystery drama. The writers seem to be hurrying to finish this chapter as soon as possible without exploring more of the individual character sides following these new revelations. And I hate seeing the consequences for the characters and the plot. Amen.

Aghhhhhhh, I completely agree with you, those two last episodes got on my nerves, it's like watching something else, I don't understand the writers.
At first I tried to understand, the ghost has to go at the end but still pretending like nothing has happened, ah no no I can't accept that !
I am so disappointed right now :(

I know I've been pretty vocal about my criticism for this drama but I actually liked this episode.
1. I think despite how sparse Bong Sun's progression has been on screen, I don't think her personality as it is right now is unbelievable. Because when she's around people she's unfamiliar with and doesn't know well, she's still quieter, more shy and distant. But by now, Sun Woo knows her whole secret and he hasn't run away or given up, Soon Ae is her unni, Shaman Unni is in her rare ghost-seeing club, and SA's Dad has now become a familiar Ajhussi to her. So in front of these people seeing her be more confident and outspoken is believable to me.
2. I still don't think he's recovered tbh. I think he's pretty much avoiding it altogether. He doesn't even know HOW to address the issue right now. He's acknowledged it at least so we know that he knows it's there, it happened, and he's going to have to address it soon. But with his worry over his sister's well being, the feelings are going to take the back burner for now. I think they should have delved into it in a two parter Sun Woo Sorts His Feelings episode but we're instead going to get it probably near the end once we've taken care of Sung Jae's reign of terror first. I felt for her when her high five got ignored. :\
3. Yeeah, I'm still not happy we missed out on BS so much in the middle. She's actually a fun and adorable character herself if not quite the zany bag of laughs Soon Ae was so I really wish he'd had more of episode 7-esque shenanigans because I REALLY loved her in that. She just has a disarming personality-quiet and sweet but surprisingly strong willed and unexpectedly sharp. Pretty much everyone in the world underestimates Bong Sun.

Thanks for your comments and I really agree that chef hasn't finished processing everything yet and won't be able to until the current threat has passed to his loved ones. I do still see a resolution at the end that doesn't ignore SA and what she meant to everyone.

1) i'm okay with this one, because i feel like her personality now is actually her real one that was buried by her sleepless nights and constant fear of ghosts. befriending soon-ae gave her happiness, a bit of confidence. she also kept the ghosts away- but she got used to them through soon-ae, after she left her body. gaining chef's love has also helped to boost her confidence and draw out her real side. that said, i'm really sad that they didn't show more of the friendship between soon-ae and bong sun. it's such a missed opportunity.
2) but yeah....this part is just a mess, tbh. while he may have been put off by her advances sometimes, there's no denying that he was flattered. he spent pretty much 80% of the drama with her, and we've seen plenty of moments when he definitely was falling for her. so for him to only acknowledge her as "the ghost" and be totally back to normal with bong sun is just ridiculous. i get that they have an emotional connection, based on their blog and past childhood. and he's grown to like how she looks, obviously. and yet, his grand confession that he cared from her way before she was possessed holds no meaning for me bc that wasn't out of romantic interest, since he was still in love with so-hyung then. (speaking of which, that whole loveline is confusing to me too- what was its purpose? it was broken off in the same abrupt manner as soon-ae's). anyways. definitely could have had more scenes addressing this.
3) SAME

I think the production got carried away with the Soon Ae as Bong Sun story-line since it gained so much positive attention because of PBY's acting. They could have done the reveal 2 episodes earlier (the formula for some of the better 16 episode kdramas usually has the big reveal around episodes 8 to 10 while this drama dragged it out until 12.) leaving more room for the murder mystery and aftermath of the big reveal.

That whole interview scene was quite cringe-worthy. I wish they would have done it a different way or found a different gag because it only served to put some of the characters in a bad light when they have been likable characters throughout the drama.

I like Bong Sun a lot but I am also starting to miss possessed Bong Sun since she was so much fun and PBY's aegyo is no joke.

honestly.......it was so gross. chef rebuking him later didn't even subvert or undermine what came before, since it was all played for laughs. they could have still made it funny, without all the disgusting misogyny. like the girl they ended up firing, who had no common sense and talked on her phone during work, had no sense of boundaries, etc.- that's real and relatable to ppl who've had to deal with coworkers like that, but god, it was played out all wrong.
shame, because i really liked all the side characters, and that scene left me feeling quite the opposite.

also, same. i find bong sun's character real and relatable, also endearing, and yet i miss the possessed version a lot.

Wow, I feel like the mood turns from rom-com to horror in one episode....
SJ is so scary here, finally showing his evilness directly.
I know SA is dead already, but I still feel scared when she's face to face with SJ.
What's the worst can he do to a ghost? Can he exorcise her or something?? I hope she gets away with this.

But anyway, I loove this episode. I do think it's time for the romance to step back a little to make time to resolve this murder mystery. Can't wait for next week episode!

P.S: Lesson learnt? Lock your car especially in red lights lol

I love you writer. Im happy that he/she knew what she/he was doing with the love triangle and the consequences that it had and that those issues were perfectly translated to the screen because at the end we understood it the same way and we had the same questions as the characters, specifically Sun woo...or maybe the writer just read the comments and thought "They are right". Either way, it's satisfying

I don't mind that the mystery of the murder was left to the end because at least it has 5 or 6 episodes to develop and it's not going to be all in one hour. And we know this is a drama, they cant be totally well and happy until episode 16. So all the episodes we spent in the romance now served to stretch the way to the happy ending for Bong Sun and Sun woo. Plus, those episodes were super entertaining.

Thank you for the recap!

I felt kinda sad for BS when SW admitted that he fell for the ghost (but she did know or sense this as evident from the Namsan scene). She coolly responded that the ghost liked him for real too. I admire her big heart - I mean she could choose not to mention anything about it. I think she doesn't consider SA as a competition but as a friend she has come to care about. And his response to that (the ghost has good taste) was just so like him!

I don't quite like the part when he didn't send her home...

I like the part when he asked her to go back to stay at his place, in his room!!

I did too. I think I always will hurt for Bong Sun whenever she gets short changed because her whole character was erased in so many ways until now. But I agree, she has a big heart and were Sun Woo to say that he really only liked Soon Ae and not Bong Sun, we all know she'd have stepped aside. Even if SW and SA as evident right now don't really have a chance in hell or heaven, she still would have backed off. She genuinely wants SA's happiness as well as Chef's. So yeah :|
Hah yah Chef is def consistent!
But I understood he was so blown over by the idea that his BIL could be this depraved- it's not something simple like dude is a thief or something- no he's a figgin' cold blooded serial killer in his own home living with his mother and beloved sister. I gave him a little free pass for his preoccupation. I loved that Bong Sun stayed so she could make sure he came home okay. Cute.
Plus him wanting to just hear her breathing to soothe him? So adorable! Chef why must you give us all these feels?!

I really ship Soon Ae with Chef :( But I know they will not be end-game since SA is a ghost… I felt that Chef actually loves quirky SA more than quiet BS.

And the sunshine blog is more or less one of the only things connecting BS and chef before BS confessed about the ghost, while important moments are with SA.

There seems to be more BS-Chef supporters than SA-chef supporters...

(sorry I posted this in the previous recap but I really want to hear what you guys think haha)

Apart from the romance, the mystery is killing me!! I hope nothing happens to SA, a ghost can't die for a second time right?

Just my two-cents.

I think we're all mostly BS/SA/SW x Happiness shippers/supporters. It's not one over the other. It's everyone finding their inner peace.
I truly hate shipper wars/competitions/politics because it just over simplifies characters into little boxes and distract from the story instead of allowing them to breathe.
I don't love Soon Ae any less than I do Bong Sun but I do think they have different paths. Like Soon Ae is a ghost. She can't be resurrected. Tying her to a life where the only way she can connect to the man she loves is through possessing other people isn't fair to anyone including her.
Her true path is really giving her father closure and achieving justice for her murder. Bong Sun and Sun Woo were always like minded souls looking for someone to share their quieter personalities with-SA was always their catalyst- helping them along and getting caught up in the middle when she got too deep. It was inevitable because she's so full of life and so needed that human experience.
I do think the execution definitely was very messy by the writer because they got carried away in the middle-losing the narrative reasoning behind why Soon Ae was still possessing BS when there wasn't a pressing need for it. But SA did experience a taste of a life she didn't get to lead and she got to help a girl so much like her avoid the fate she had. Which just binds her to both SW and BS- she was lonely too.
In that sense, BS and SW have more than a blog in common, it's their personalities and their wants that do match. BS loves cooking and food and the meaning behind it as much as he does. She's eager to learn and be better given the chance. Obviously they have a lot of getting to know each other better to do because they did miss a lot of important revelations of each other. But that's more of a time thing.

I actually like both girls equally, but from the beginning of the show, I can't shake the feeling that the writer wants to make SW end up with BS, that's probably why I unconsciously holding on to my belief that SW/BS is the end game.

I too, was conflicted from watching ep 9-12 because it seems like the ghost has taken control over their relationship and it seems like SW falls deeper in love with the ghost in the front seat. I don't blame people who felt so invested with SA/SW story because, who are we kidding, they're cute as hell. And not just cute, there are a whole lot more meaningful moments between those two than SW/BS. I loved them too, so I think I know how you feel, @yunakim.
But from my perspective, from ep 1, they give us hints such as the blog and EH comment on how SW is always to other people other than his mom and BS, which I take it as SW actually cares for her. I know it's too little of a hint, but I think if the writer want to make SW/SA loveline, they won't bother to give those little details.
So I don't think the writer sway out from their initial story like what many people said, but I DO think there's a probability, that somewhere along the line, they invest more in SW/SA loveliness because it's cute and attract many viewers.
Or maybe they want to make SA experienced feelings she hasn't got to feel when she was alive. She only had a crush with SJ, but with SW, she finally know how it felt, being in love and loved back, caring and being cared.

Again, that's just what I think, since you said you wanted to hear some opinions :D
I hope I didn't write anything that's offending you or other SW/SA shipper

I know it was a complicated love triangle but k-rom coms major part is the way the main leads get to know each other. SA I think was one of the way. C'mon they had same kind of childhood , blog , cared & worried abt her way before(remember SW scloding to BS for saying sorry so many times) he only opened his heart b'coz he recognised BS so well. Even accepted her change in personality and loved her. No way he would have done that for a complete stranger like SA.Both SW & BS didn't know how to connect & SA did that for them.BS & SW are ment for each other.
its really sad ending for both SA & EH.
Finally SJ is tooo creepy for such a cute face...

Omg i am quite pissed by how the characters are not as cautious of SJ as i expected them to be.
1. Han officer- what are you doing? Checking on the developments of SJ's identity right outside the police station? And being so open to meet SW with the document? You should call someone else with you!
2. SA - oh my you girl/ghost, how could you call BS right outside the police station? SJ is lurking around! And you are most aware of his evil deeds!

Man, i think SW is the most cautious out of all characters who are in danger here. Before he knew anything about SJ's deeds from BS, he did not reveal to SJ what han officer told him over the phone using his insticts. And he raised his suspicions of SJ when SJ whistled and smiled at the mirror in the toilet. He did not know anything but knows how to protect himself.

Oh my, but i hope he can be more careful though - he almost revealed himself in his own home - a second later and he is in for big trouble. I think he shouldn't drop by the funeral to see SJ and tell him those lines - it definitely raised SJ's suspicions.

I hope that the female police officer will still breathe in the next episode. Hopefully, SA eject herself in time before the female police officer dies.

So true. I'm kind of laughing at this, especially SA's predicament, because she could have just sent a text off to SW or BS with the confirmation, deleted evidence of that message from the phone, walked the female officer outside, left the body, and gone off to find one of her allies. Silly, silly people.

Regarding the gripe ppl who ship SW/BS have against SA supporter, it's not that we were expecting chef to end up with a ghost somehow...It's not that we are "Shipping" them together or that THAT is the cause of our disappointment...No, it's just that most of us are just logical people who, when following the progression of the drama, felt that strong and undeniable connect between chef and well the girl he's ALWAYS interacting with (i.e. SA) when that was never established between him and BS at all and right from the start we felt that there was such a huge gap between them!

So naturally, we will feel cheated with the current turn of events...Naturally we're going to question this "logic" that the writer suddenly developed after setting up the whole drama in the total opposite direction...What was she hoping that people will totally ignore this complete treachery because, the two girls were played by one actress, thus the emotional connect to PBY (regardless if she's BS or SA) will ALWAYS be there and they'll forget their brains at the door of her totally whack new storyline?! Ok, if that's the case then it's an even worse insult to all of us, because she doesn't seem to think we have half a brain to even distinguish between the two personalities we were presented with!!! Blasphemy!!!

The writer making SW totally ignore the fact that (physical body BS) is NOT the girl he's been interacting with all along, is like a parent loving a child all their lives, raising them well, nurturing them, cherishing them...THEN all of a sudden they find that this child is NOT their own, that it had been "switched" at birth...So now, with not even a bling of an eye...They discard it, disregard it, don't think much of it or about it...AND develop this "unimaginably" huge interest in the child that they now know was "theirs"!! I mean, just how much *$#@*^^ is there in this analogy???? Can anyone deny the similarities between the two situations? and can anyone blame all of us for feeling cheated, betrayed and hurt for that poor child who's now tossed in the street for not being the "naturally born child"?

The writer has certainly taken us for a freaking LONG ride...I don't respect or appreciate this disregard for all the emotions we've invested in this drama, only to be cheated like so in the end!!

The writer gave us so many great Soon Ae (as Bong Sun) and Sun Woo moments that it feels a bit heartless to suddenly disregard all those feelings that were exchanged. I gave him a lot of leeway because he's probably still in a state of shock about the whole ghost thing but at some point I'd want to see him feel a bit sad that the SA part of Bong Sun is no longer there since they did make a genuine deep connection.

*standing ovation* SA was a gimmick. as i said in my previous post, she was just used for "look! have you ever seen a top actress/heroine behave like this? look how different & daring we are!" then dropped her like a hot potato cause obviously, kdrama laws forbid the second lead from getting the male lead, or the sexual one. seriously, they should have just made SA coach BS from outside her body all the time. at least we would have gotten to see more of Kim Seul Gi.

I tweeted Adele's "someone like you" to JJS's account telling him that that was my Ode to chef & SA's relationship. That if she were visible to chef, she'd probably tell him many of the same things, and that I couldn't believe how easily she was tossed aside and forgotten by chef! Especially since all the pinnacle moments that happened in his life were shared with her!!

He'll probably think I'm nuts, but I had to tell him how most non biased (i.e. ppl who were invested in the story we were "originally" "sold") fans of the drama feel...I think we owe him at least THAT much feedback!

After reading this comment, I do kind of wish that was how the drama went, because then I would have gotten more Seul Gi, a bit more focus on the mystery from the very start (maybe even more development for our evil spirit cop, which is another part of this drama that I feel is lacking), more of the friendship between BS and SA, and I wouldn't have been given the opportunity to fall in love with a couple, only to have it practically erased from the show and deemed insignificant.

Not seeing more of Seul Gi now that SA's parted from BS's body just adds more salt to the wound. Not seeing more of SA in general adds more salt to the wound. I mean, I understand wanting to tell the audience how other characters feel about these revelations, but we don't even really know how SA feels going into all of this. She's just playing police dog and finding clues, while everyone else holds hands and cries about the things going on. Why have that character if you're going to reduce so much of her presence to nothing in the end?

I'm sorry, but I don't think the SA character and her portrayal was a "gimmick"; what I saw and continue to see, was a way for SA to vicariously experience, "live" a part of her life that she was short-changed and cheated of. I feel that this is part of why she lingers, not just because she was a virgin (which we now know was not really the main factor at all) and not just because her killer must be brought to justice; her family needs to know what actually happened to SA also. There is a bigger resolution here for SA, a bittersweet one, but, I feel, a necessary one.

That's exactly what I'm thinking.

Watching the drama now and reading the comments I'm beginning to wonder if the real problem lies with those of us that expect some form of logical progression/ cohesion to exist in kdramas at all! Like I've said before, just because I've started to lose affection for the show since ep. 13 doesn't mean I'm a bitter SA shipper. It just means that I feel mightily p***ed off that something that I fell in love with for the first 12 episodes suddenly nose dived both in writing and in pacing.

All it took was for the writer to give us a better (more heartfelt) resolution to the SA-SW relationship. That's it. All of us would be that much happier and all of us would then cheer for the main pairing. But what we have at the moment is spending nearing 10 episodes on cultivating/ exploring the SA-SW relationship and then pretend that the last 10 episodes didn't happen. ARGHHHH.

And that's what I think the (uh... my...) basic problem is. Not the plotholes or the illogical progression and resolution of plotline but the wretched feeling of being played. Yep, that soul destroying emotion of being manipulated and cheated by the writers who deliberately wrote ambiguously to mislead viewers. I mean who writes over half the episodes with one character leading and then decides to forget that ever happened. Am I being melodramatic? Probably. Do I feel better after this rant. YES.

I agree with the majority of what you said except for the part that I'd somehow see myself cheering for "the main lead"! Since to me SW/SA were IT since, well epi 4...I can't bring myself to "validate a relationship that was built on lies" for the sake of forgiving the writer her atrocious disregard to both logic and our feelings. I can never bring myself to become a wishy washy person, no matter the cause!

"All it took was for the writer to give us a better (more heartfelt) resolution to the SA-SW relationship. That’s it." This (and the whole comment, honestly) multiplied by a thousand.

I didn't need SA to somehow magically come back to life in her body or someone else's, with some ridiculous ghost loophole ("In exchange for killing/catching this evil spirit, you may be brought back to life!" Although, looking at how the drama's turning out, I might have preferred that absurdity). I didn't need a neatly and perfectly tied together happy ending for SA and SW, which seems to be what they're aiming for with BS and SW.

I wanted SW to struggle with this more, actually be conflicted by who was who in his memories, not just mope around and then be socked in the face by SA's brother (who was only defending BS because the 'BS' he liked was his sister; it's nice to see SA's influence resulting in their reunion) and realize that 'I don't want to think about who you were and when, but I have always liked BS, and that's that' (which also kind of undercuts the one-sided love he had in the beginning on the drama, but whatever).

If he wasn't going to be more conflicted, at least give me a scene, one scene, with him and SA alone. SW staring at an empty chair, the two of them trying to figure out how to communicate, and watching SA have fun scaring the living crap out of him with a few ghostly pranks until they both accidentally stumble upon a limited but usable form of communication (SW asking just yes or no questions, and SA moving a chair once for yes or twice for no - where you BS on this day? where you BS during this moment?). Something comedic, but still heartfelt and bittersweet. Something that encapsulates the dynamic they had for most of the drama, that shows off both where they used to be, and the state they're in now.

And from that point, SA could look at him longingly and they could find a way to work together with BS and catch the culprit, and it would be awkward and weird and painful, but they gave that much to SH and SW, why can't SA have the same, at the very least?

You've hit it right on the mark. There was no time in the drama that I expected to have a SW-SA endgame. She's dead for crying out loud, it kind of puts a damper on the happily ever after bit, so the argument that those of us dissatified by the recent storyline are delusional/die-hard/bias/bitter SA shippers are way off mark.

What I find annoying is that by not resolving the SA-SW issue properly (yet?), it has diminished my affection of SW as a character and thus can't find it in me to care less anymore about BS and chef. Which is a bummer because I like BS and I wanted her to come out of her shell and I wanted her to be with chef.

I also agree with comments that state, in hindsight, that there really should have been alot more interaction between the girls as well as between BS and SW during the run of the drama. How do you now route for a girl that had a secret crush on chef and then effectively been asleep for 10 episodes with just occasional consciousness?! From what the viewer has been shown (so I'm not sure it it is the fault of writing or editing) the girls do not interact very much at all. Does SA 'release' BS everynight and have a girly night in? Are all chef's nightly (?) cooking lesson with SA or BS or both (in episode 11, it was BS that queried why chef wasn't coming down for the cooking lesson...)? Does BS ever ask SA what the hell happened when you were me, just to make it easier for BS to fit in again? Questions, Question, Questions...

Of course, there are still two episodes left and I hope I can watch those and come back here to apologise profusely about this misguided c**p I am spouting now!! *fingers crossed*

My favorite summer drama of 2015..
I miss SA in BS. We had so much of the lovey dovey triangle romance and now we are totally switching over to crime mystery drama which is getting very dark and tense.

Eun Hee has lived with Sung Jae for 3 years and never suspected him of being a psycho serial killer? I guess he could really compartmentalize his personalities since he is possessed by an evil spirit. Do we really don't know who HIS ghost is?

I'd like to apologise to the writer. I've been harsh with her before, and I still feel that most of my criticism is valid -- the show has had major issues in terms of plot pacing/coherence and character setup.

However, I'd like to take a moment and applaud the writer here. It's a little late and things have to be rushed at this point, but instead of just following the usual K-drama checklist, this writer actually asked the one question K-drama writers never bother to ask: "What would an actual human being do in this situation?"

SW's reaction to the world-shattering revelations suffers from the lack of episodes remaining. But besides being too fast and condensed, it seems very in-character and realistic.

I also understand that many people are disappointed that the writer doesn't just follow the K-drama checklist and doesn't ignore the characters as they were build up like any other K-drama would do.

Actually, I would argue that the writer is following the K-drama checklist to some degree, in terms of the second lead that isn't then turned into an antagonist.

SA's behaviour (and what I suspect will be her behaviour for the remaining two episodes) is essentially what quite a few 'nice guy' second leads go through. They are put in a position where they realize they cannot win the heroine's heart, and end up being completely fine with squelching their own feelings and letting the first lead get the girl instead. They put up little to no fight, and just watch it unfold, doomed to have nothing more than their one-sided love.

The only difference here is we got to see an actual relationship between our lead, SW, and SA, as opposed to SA being the dogged nice guy from the very start. And personally, that makes the wound sting a lot more than it usually would, especially considering how SW's treating the whole thing. Maybe it's me, but it doesn't feel like SW's finding an in-character way of getting over this shocking news. It feels like the writer knowing that SA is going to disappear from this world, and wanting to make BS&SW's transition into happily ever after as seamless as possible by making the third-wheel as much of a non-factor as possible.

But hey, that might just be me being a jaded bastard.

Ok, let me ask you this question “What would YOU do in this situation?”
Would you confront the ghost you're 'in love' with? Or,
Would you forget the whole creepy things and start anew?

For someone who is a wimp (like me), Sun Woo’s reaction to this shocking news is the most realistic. Apparently he's a better person than I am, because if it ever happens to me, I will probably dump the host too!
I think that's what Jon G meant by “What would an actual human being do in this situation”

If the writer is just following the usual k-drama trope, we’ll get to see these scenes:
(quoted frm your post above) "SW staring at an empty chair, the two of them trying to figure out how to communicate, and watching SA have fun scaring the living crap out of him with a few ghostly pranks until they both accidentally stumble upon a limited but usable form of communication (SW asking just yes or no questions, and SA moving a chair once for yes or twice for no – where you BS on this day? where you BS during this moment?)"

I don't mind if the writer actually did what you suggested, for it would be quite fun but I think those scenes would be too cliché. Just my 2 cents. Agree to disagree :)

Agree with you here! I feel like I can follow the characters and their decisions logically again. Obviously wish we had more time to delve into their emotional issues but as far as reactions go I feel like they've been pretty realistic for kdrama land at least.
Obviously if our ships aren't satisfied we're not happy but that's why I wish the pacing had been better early on so we'd actually have more time to do so but eh, moving past that hopefully. Sun Woo is acting exactly as any good man would have in the same situation.

Thanks girlfriday for a great recap!

I'm glad to say that I'm happy with this episode. Also, it's about time, really.... it took soooo long to get here and get the investigation going. I've been wanting the good gals/guys to get together and work out all those mysteries.

Of course the most elusive mystery is why Sung Jae ran into/over Eun Hee. Let's get all the reveals underway!! Yay!

I'm not sure if it was meant to be funny but laughed endlessly ... I just can't even ... every time Chef makes anything at all, all about him and freaks out over ghosts.

BS: How did you know about my blog?
SW: I've got my ways. No matter how much you run, you're in the palm of my hand.
(LOL!! He's so pretentious)

BS: That ghost really liked you.
SW: I guess even a ghost has good taste in men. (*I'm slamming my head*)

BS: A ghost just walked by
SW: Why did you have to tell me? You just want to scare me don't you? I don't get startled easily. (Yeah, sure.)

[Bong Sun places a hand on his shoulder.]
SW: [flinches] What's that!!! [grabs her hand] I'm not going to let this hand go...it's not because I'm afraid.

[stops his swing from moving]
BS: There's nothing there
SW: It was moving. (*I'm rolling on the floor*)
BS: Are you scared?
SW: No. [his eyes about darting a bit and his thumb rubs her hand nervously]

Loved this scene!

I love this scene too! Thanks for typing out the script! That ghost did freak me out a little, though not as bad as the kitchen ghost.

I guess SW would now believe in ghosts, huh?

Oh, there's another cute part - the one where she was asking about Officer Choi, and he thought she's interested in married man. And I actually see no point in him asking her now and then "Are you possessed?", coz the possessed BS could always deny it...

@wunderbar

Yes, true... BS possessed or otherwise could deny it, however I don't think even I could stop myself from asking that whenever my friend who used to be possessed starts acting differently. I'm sure to wonder and will probably ask. It will take seeing my friend's behaviour over time to be sure it's still really her.

Which brings me to how great it is that the actresses possessed by Soon Ae are able to mimic enough of her voice and mannerisms so that they are quite convincing as possessed persons. I want to commend them all!!! :)

@wunderbar

Sorry,... no I did not mean that LOL! It was meant to be in a "If I had" statement.... However I did know someone who really had an evil spirit(s) in her. I got to know her only way after that episode, so it was not eerie.

She herself said that she listened to lots of hard rock and dark music (death, suicide,... etc themes I think) and that somehow she became open to spirits. It took a long time, lots of prayer, praying over etc to finally rid her of it(them).

So, not ghosts per se, but do be careful about playing with the supernatural or opening oneself up to 'dark' things.

Hello GB unni, :-)

I LOVE the scenes you mentioned, they are some of my favorite scenes in this ep. So thank you for writing them out. Yes, Chef makes almost everything about him, especially when he is with BS. I referred to it in an earlier comment, when I said that I thought he was "trying to act manly" in front of BS. Poor guy, he wants to impress her, and he wants her to think highly of him (which she already does). I actually find that endearing, when Chef does that, maybe because I know where he is coming from, and because I know how caring, how tender and how gentle he can be as well. It helps that we know what his past was like, and how he tries to cover up his pain and feelings at times.

I love how Chef freaks out over ghosts. He becomes like a little boy (I loved his reactions when they were on the swing. ALL of his reactions). When he said "you are in the palm of my hands," I thought it could be pretentious, though I also thought that it could mean that he is watching over her, and because he does, he will also protect her when the need arises (just like he wants to protect his sister). When something is in the palm of our hands, we often hold it very carefully and gently. I thought his saying that could also mean (imply) how much he cares about her, that he is always looking for her (and he will look out for her as well). Though yes, him saying that was arrogant, though like BS, I don't mind :-)

2-"I guess even a ghost has good taste in men." I agree with him there though. Chef is attractive, and he is a very good catch. Even you said in ep.13 (I think) that Chef is a very good boyfriend. I think you said more than that actually :-) (something about wishing to have a boyfriend like him, or meeting him? Hum..... :-) ).

3-"I don't get startled that easily," but then Chef acted like a scared little boy, holding her hand (and not letting go), flinching when her hand touched him, stopping the moving swing, and staying really close to BS). I had a little girl (she is 5, and she started Kindergarten today :-) ) do that to me last week. She had had a bad dream the night before, and the next day, for the few hours that I was with her and her sister, she would follow me everywhere I went, and would very often hold my hand. I understand Chef. I LOVE that he shows his vulnerable side to BS, even as he pretends to be "all manly." We see through it, and I think she does too. I LOVE how she handles that side of him. I would do the same (I strongly might), if I had someone like Chef in my romantic life :-)

I would love to say more unni, but I need to go get some things done. I read all your emails (thank you! <3 ) and I will respond when I can. I have been having some really bad computer problems. I hope you had a good night. I saw your comment (to me) on Yongpal ep.4 recap as well. I will try to get to it when I can :-) I was happy to read you here and on YP's recap (ep.4).

Hit & run theory...
About Eun Hee hit & run, what SJ said on the rooftop about how she should continue living cuz she is not dead, made me think that it was premeditated and that he meant to kill her, may be he was her stalker or she rejected so decided to punish her and when she didn't die he decided it was his chance to have her for himself.

I was wondering why he did not grab the envelope, get out of the car and run for his life. Surely it would have been difficult for Choi to have killed him in front of other road users in broad daylight!

The other thing (both Officer Han and lady Officer Kang) ... why talk on the phone with the killer nearby without turning around to see if he's coming or not. I just cannot comprehend such a lack of basic safety consciousness. LOL!

I think, no matter what, I am grateful for the story presented to us. This was a good story. I also have been thoroughly surprised at the stuff the writers have given us.

So, after all's said and done, I know this same story will be properly resolved in the next 2 episodes =)

My disappointment in this drama grows with every episode, and it's so unfortunate that there's so much that I truly enjoyed about it, but now it's got the same problems I always seem to have with dramas during their last six or so episodes.

As someone who is incredibly SA-biased (I could't adore her character more if I tried), I have to say the beginning of her send off has left me cold, and I only see things getting worse.

They turned her 'romance' with SW into a punchline this episode (with her flirty in ajumma's body, and him being grossed out by it), so that getting the kind of closure I wished it would get probably won't happen. And now that we've figured out SA's role in the mystery of the show, I have a feeling the writer's treatment of the character is only going to get worse, since she's outlived her most of usefulness at this point (SW has moved on to BS, her father has found a second daughter in 'BS', and the evil spirit's time is almost up).

I think if they can resolve the mystery in episode 15, they can leave AT LEAST half of 16 to resolving Soon Ae's story and giving her the proper attention she deserves. I do want to see her and SW resolve their story and for her to give her father some peace. I have a feeling we do still have that much in store. Remember there's more than one lead in this drama so to ignore the other two makes little sense.
I don't think it's necessarily been reduced to a joke, it's always been the fun part of SA's character-watching her possess people and have them act differently when she's in them. I didn't see him as grossed out by it though-just feeling awkward. Remember, the whole time he's been developing these feelings, he's thought it was Bong Sun not another person inside of her so to see this other person he's definitely going to feel awkward because HE feels like the ignorant fool in the scenario.
I have a feeling episode 15 will be more SA centric because she has to confront SJ and what happened to her. I don't think she's being ignored but more so she's actively working to solve her mystery rather than sitting back reflecting on her feelings.

it's so weird....in the early half of the drama, while still loving soon-ae's character, i felt a bit iffy about her possessing her all the time. and yet now, bong-sun has got her love and even formed her own relationship with the father, who tells her that she's like his daughter (although probably based off the interactions he's had with soon-ae in bong sun) and it's just weird to see how much her presence has been erased already. even though i love sun-woo and bong sun as characters and i want her father to be happy again, it just feels weird to me. it's almost like bong sun is possessing soon-ae's life now, kinda. or maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration. but i definitely didn't like how her possessing the shaman was just played as a joke.

Dang! Lol I'm Loving this drama! Twice I found myself yelling at the screen! Once when Han stopped at the light and SJ got in! "OMGOSH! Noooo...evil dude alert .....Han..you can't be a victim Again! ..you can't die! " ah! He died! :o :( After SJ ran the car off the cliff and burned the documents I thought ...SJ should be Punished!..Painfully! Aaaah! This actor has done a Fab job of pulling me into his character. (Creepy scary toxic) kudos to him. The second time of screen yelling was when chef was searching for the diary. Omg...lol..as if he could actually hear me! "No no no...SJ is coming! Put the box back! Get out of there NOW!" I have to laugh at myself because I've always been aware of filming crews, locations, props, actors doing their thing, so to be caught up in the portrayal of those senes was a spectacular "thumbs up" in my book.

Thanks for the marvelous recap/recaps that come so early in the timeline. They are frequently available before the subs that I have to restraint myself to make sure i watch the drama before I read them.

The drama is such a wonderful character focus romantic comedy with almost flawless work by the actors. Watching it is one of the highlights of my week.

I stopped by the Soompi forum and had to make a hasty retreat because of the strong negative reaction regarding the story the writer didn't write, and from my perspective, never intended to write.

It seems to me this was meant to be a ghostly romantic comedy not a ghostly murder mystery.

My main regret, but I won't hold it for too long against the series, was Bong Sun long absences at the beginning of the possession and the fact that she does not share consciousness with the ghost. This is possible a necessary construct to absolve Sung Jae from responsibility of the deamon's crime

I commented around episode 4 or 6 that is seems to me the Chef was always connected/interested/attracted to Bong Sun even as he was firing her. The possession just made "her' available for him to interact with.

The one thing I am expecting that will be disappointing if it isn't utilized is the return of the possession seeing girl. I think she will the the weapon need to fight the deamonicllly possessed Sung Jae.

Yes, the girl at the team building retreat that could see "the unni in the other unni". She didn't really add anything to the episode except to set up her talent. The production could have trapped Bong-Sun/Soon-Ae in the freezer without having to pay anothervactor.

Since she is the only character that can see a ghost hiding in a host, she becomes like Chekhov's gun above the fireplace that must be used before the play ends.

Additionally she seems to be on some independent ghost catching mission. It makes little dramaturgical sense to add those elements into drama and not exploit them more, especially when it is clear very few people--even the ghost seers have that ability.

That's very well said of you! Why get carried away so much with criticism. The show is better written than most absurd shows out there, no one is picking on those plot holes. Think about it, BS will have the rest of her lives to make more memories with chef to make up for the lost moments because of the ghost. Chef's reaction is normal for a human being, none of us would be able to deal with the issue better than he does since we are all flawed in some way.

I had never imagined that SA would possess the medium unni's body! And with SW at the scene at that! This would be a great chance for SW to ask her stuff about them - either this hasn't happened yet or not shown, or it would not happen at all.

I read some comments that a proper closure would be for SA to say goodbye to SW properly (something like that)... well if it's not in Bong Sun's body, I wonder if that will suffice.

I don't mind seeing more of possessed medium unni! I would love to see more of the actress in upcoming dramas.
