Joo Sang-wook, Choi Kang-hee for MBC’s Dazzling Temptation

Wait, there was a whole round of stories earlier this week that said Choi Kang-hee (Heart to Heart) wasn’t going to do this drama. I don’t know what they did to get her back onboard, but now she’s back to possibly headlining the cast of MBC’s upcoming melodrama Dazzling Temptation, which reunites her with the PD of Level 7 Civil Servant. Joo Sang-wook (Masked Prosecutor) is also being courted to play her leading man, which I guess means that his streak of funny, outlandish characters will be broken. Sadness.

The 50-episode contemporary drama comes from the writer of May Queen and Gold Rainbow, and follows the chaotic lives of two women who were high school classmates, and the revenge story of the man they both love. Nam Joo-hyuk (Who Are You—School 2015) has been cast to play Joo Sang-wook in his youth, a character who’s handsome, intelligent, and good at all sports. We don’t know what his revenge mission will entail, but it might have to do with his prosecutor father who’s being investigated for something.

Choi Kang-hee’s younger counterpart will be played by Kim Sae-ron (High School: Love On), and she’s a character that develops a keen sense of touch at an early age. As an adult, she’ll be a working mom who lives in a rooftop room and struggles to pay off the debt that her husband left behind (it’s unclear if he’s dead or just a deadbeat). She experiences a lot of hardship early on, which makes her a staunch realist.

Then by coincidence one of her high school classmates reenters her life, and sucks her into an unexpected maelstrom. Some of the press releases describe the setup as two high school classmates ending up as stepmother and daughter, which certainly sounds like a maelstrom to me. The drama is said to be about ambition, family strife, sacrifice, and pain (how pleasant). Is it too late to hope that someone hands Joo Sang-wook a rom-com script before he confirms?

Dazzling Temptation follows Hwajeong on Mondays and Tuesdays in October.

Haven't seen Good Doctor, but Masked Prosecutor wasn't too bad. A little rough around the edges, but the villain was very good, and once I readjusted my expectations, and took it all as a spoof on avenger tropes, his character just cracked me up. He is easily one of my favourite lead actors. I do hope he chooses a rom-com instead; I don't do makjang, and even less 50-episode runs...

I stopped dping 50 episode dramas since the 100 yr inheritance drove me crazy and what was the one that was supposed to be cancelled during the Olympics but the lead actor had a cancellation clause in his contract so it went to 46 episodes? It's so bad I blotted it from my mind forever. That damn drama jumped the shark when they married the female lead to the son of the people that killed her Dad and eventually her Mother too.

"Name that drama" moment :) ; haha, I don't know, but I am definitely not going near that one. I suppose this is all moot in my case, on the other hand, when I depend on subtitles, and long dramas are hardly ever subbed. I just hope Joo Sang-wook picks something I can and will watch...

I suffered through 100 Year Inheritance for Eugene and Lee Jung Jin...their chemistry was cute in it. But getting to the cute parts was daunting to say the least. I believe it's now in the dictionary as the definition for makjang

There are a few 50, 50+ dramas that are wonderful... My Husband's Got a Family (hilarious) and Ojakgyo Family Brothers. Well written, characters you care about and not draggy. Oh and of course Jewel in the Palace. I know there's other historical ones that are supposed to also be great, but I haven't got to them yet.

The premise sounds like a staple makjang and I'm passing, especially after having to sit through the trainwreck of I Summon You, Gold!. I like Choi Kanghee and Joo Sangwook so massive mixed feelings for me.

"I Summon You Gold" was not a trainwreck - it never even got onto the tracks :P

But yeah, this sounds a lot like many of the 40-60 episode shows, heavy on makjang, really stupid people and all the rest, kind of like Bluebird's House.

everytime I see one of my favs would star in a weekend drama... i remember I summon you, Gold! and hesitate... I would never ever forgive Yeon sung hoon for fooling me to watch that drama lol... it was funny and entertaining, it was promising, had great actors but midway, they inserted the crazy makjang and everything went downhill... I can say Im glad I watched cuz with that drama I noticed I liked Park seo joon A LOT :333 after that drama, i think he got bigger roles too...!

The reunion of Level 7's PD and Choi Kang-hee? UGHH. The adult portion is a definite pass whichever way I look at it. But I'll most likely stick around for the first 10. The younger actors are in my good booka.

Off topic, and maybe a little soap boxy of me--but just once I wish the man's photo would be of him in a little see-through number and the woman's photo would show her in a power suit & tie.

(Just me--going against tropes.)

okay from the writers of may queen and golden rainbow...that doesnt sound good..both dramas started off amazing, especially the story with the younger counter parts. but both fell short later in the drama.
praying that doesnt happen again with this drama.

I'd like to add also that I am a fan of both him and 'Sunee' but that drama was seriously lacking. NO chemistry whatsoever.

Yeah, it's strange; it was not a good show by any stretch, yet I was pretty entertained throughout, and I finished it because I was enjoying it, and not because I might as well; which I cannot say about other, in theory better, dramas that have cost me a struggle, or are simply sitting there waiting to be officially dropped.

I do credit Joo Sang-wook; his huge dork of a masked avenger had me in stitches sometimes, and I didn't care too much about chemistry with the female lead; romance was not a big part of the plot, which also spared the story from the usual love-square annoyance. I can see why people may have found it unwatchable, but I do have fond memories :)

Hehe...am actually quite serious. I really enjoyed WIAN.
To me it has the right combo of romance, fun and crime. Without getting too heavy and complicated on the crime part and no unnecessary drama on the romance part.
And I guess it's also because I adore the museum and old artifacts theme ^^

I'll have to add it to the list of possibilities then; you never know which drama will push the right buttons :) . Lately for me, any which pokes fun at itself, and dispenses with love squares....

You had me until the words 'PD of Level 7' and 'Golden Rainbow' popped out. After watching the horrible trainwrecks that were both these dramas, I'll have to pass.

I love joo sang wook playing funny roles, but he is also really good in more serious and challenging roles. As e played a series of funny roles these years maybe it's a good time to get back to dark world. I'm not just about the show. In my view May Queen had lots of flaw that even Kim Jae Won couldn't prevent me from fast forwarding it .

I like romantic joo sang wook and fell in love with his "Ahjussi" role in Paradise Ranch -it was a so-so drama i know, but he saved it imo.. since then, hes one of my favs- but man, his antihero role in TEN is everything...! choi kang hee... i liked her best in Protect the Boss.. since then, I tried to watch her drama withjoo won and bah.. not my cup of tea... If they do a funny drama a la protect the boss and not a melo, ill watch!

What a nice childhood to adulthood transition. The younger actors really do resemble their older counterparts.

I watch the 50 episode dramas from time to time. I did like May Queen so maybe, if I feel up for it, I'll give this one a shot since I like everyone involved.
