Ha Ji-won and Lee Jin-wook get friendly for Time I’ve Loved You’s press conference

It’s press conference day for The Time I’ve Loved You, SBS’s remake of the Taiwanese drama In Time With You starring Ha Ji-won and Lee Jin-wook as longtime best friends who take their sweet time to figure out that maybe, juuuust maaaaybe, they’re more than friends. Co-stars Yoon Kyun-sang and Chu Soo-hyun were in attendance, along with PD Jo Soo-won, who said, “I didn’t prepare anything special for the drama — the original source drama’s sentiment is so good that I just want to highlight that sentiment as is.”

When asked about her ability to strike up such believable chemistry with all of her co-stars, Ha Ji-won said, “When I do a drama, I look at my co-star with my most loving eyes. Then I think it makes the audience look at him with those same eyes. I don’t have some kind of magical power. I just look at him with genuine love in that moment. I like eye contact and it makes me happy to look into someone’s eyes as they’re looking at me. I think the audience recognizes that.”

When asked about Lee Jin-wook, she added, “Lee Jin-wook has really twinkly eyes. It’s enough to put you in a good mood while you’re shooting. I think he might be at his most charismatic in this drama.”

Lee Jin-wook said, “I met Ha Ji-won for the first time through this drama. If you’re a male actor in Korea, Ha Ji-won is the number one actress you want to work with. Being able to work alongside her is an honor in itself. I had high expectations, but I was really moved by her acting. It’s not just that she’s a good actress, but I’m happy with everything. I’m looking forward to the rest of our time.”

Ha Ji-won: “Even if we’re just rehearsing, we click. He makes me so comfortable that I can feel and understand how these two people could’ve been friends for 17 years and what might’ve happened between them.”

About getting back into high school uniforms for the backstory, Ha Ji-won said, “I thought it’d be a stretch, but [PD Jo] shot it very sweetly. It was less of a burden because we both had to wear them. I told myself that I wasn’t acting a high school student character, but that I had gone through a time warp back to my high school days. (Laughs.) I did a lot of things I couldn’t do back then, like buy a lot of ddukboki to eat. I got to live vicariously. I was nostalgic and happy. I figured it could be the last time I wear a high school uniform so I told myself to enjoy it freely.”

When asked about whether a 17-year friendship could really turn into romance, Lee Jin-wook answered, “Now I do think that friends could become lovers. I used to think that men and women couldn’t be friends, but through this project I’ve thought about it a lot and met Hana [Ha Ji-won’s character] and experienced it, and I think that you could become friends, and that you could then progress into a romantic relationship.”

Ha Ji-won: “I never thought before about whether friends could progress into lovers. I’m the type to like the first impression and fall because of that in order to fall in love, but I think I’ve changed in doing this drama. I think I could advance to a romance with the friend beside me.” Like literally beside you, right now? I know that’s not what you meant, but how CUTE would that be?

The Time I’ve Loved You premieres this Saturday, June 27.

Yup, me too. I started to keep an eye on him as well after Nine. Then, I've seen The Three Musketeers and I am sold. :) Nehhh, he won't be overshadowed with HJW, he's a good actor and plus Ha Ji Won has this unexplainable ability that you'll end up liking the partner she's with. I too, am hoping he will shine even brightly. Best wishes for the Drama.

I thought that too! That and the PD's comment about what he's trying to capture definitely piqued my interest.

But what is it with actors sticking their tongues out during press conferences? Is it a 'thing'? It cracks me up.

“I didn’t prepare anything special for the drama — the original source drama’s sentiment is so good that I just want to highlight that sentiment as is.”

Meh, if this were true, why did they change some of the original source material for the worse? Like immaturely wedge in a totally unnecessary chaebol second lead like a drama just cannot operate without a chaebol love interest? And do so by shuffling aside the actual second lead, the ex-boyfriend? Who was irritating, but charismatic and interesting? Or change the personality of Lee Jin-wook's character to be more cynical and pessimistic when Chen Bolin was like an optimistic, patient ball of sunshine for 90% of the drama?

Really torn on whether to give this a try.

Well, those were the old writers' ideas (the PD has nothing to do with that except bring what's on paper to life). Presumably the whole thing got re-written after they got switched out so we'll see how it goes now as we don't know the details of the new script. The chaebol is still there and I think that's because they didn't want to fire him after he was already cast.

Eeeep, so excited for this Saturday! I'm beginning to have higher hopes for this drama after seeing the PD's thoughts on keeping the tone and sentiments of the original drama. And all three posters released are lovely! I'm liking the warmth and overall feel of the posters. :)

im soooooo excited for this because i love the friends turned lovers plot and i watched the taiwanese drama and loved it as well. the male character is like my ideal type in that he isn't the typical wrist-grabbing male lead but just a true friend at heart who had been through it all with the heroine. can't wait to see how lee jin wook portrays it!

jin wook-yaaa, is it really necessary for you to say this "If you’re a male actor in Korea, Ha Ji-won is the number one actress you want to work with." ???
there was already some actors rejecting the role before you get the role, saying hjw is no.1, isn't it irony?

What are you talking about? LJW was the first name to pop out as HJW's male lead, he even rejected I remember you to be in her drama. There were only rumors about Rain and people wanting Gong Yoo as the male lead (which was impossible as he's shooting a movie ATM). A lot of actors in Korea want to act with her because she has a great reputation as a co-worker, she has been praised to heaven by all her co-worker for being nice, professional and always cheerful, never had a bad attitude. The set mood on her dramas are always good. Plus all her dramas were successful and her co-stars shot to stardom after starring along her: Ji Chang Wook, Hyun Bin (HB was already an household name but had a couple of flop works ever since MLKSS), Jang Geun Suk, Jo In Sung, So Ji Sub, Lee Seo Jin....

I have seen 'In Time With You' about four times since it has come out. Needless to say that I am a big fan of Ariel Lin. I am also a big fan of Ha Ji Won.
Nearly 8 years ago, a Korean drama explored a simular theme of a llongtime friendship turning into a romance. I just finished watching it for the third time. The drama, which debut SNSD's Yoona in her first drama, 9 End 2 Outs starring Soo Ae and Lee Jung Jin.

Hoping Ha Ji Won and Lee Jin Wook are ,akes as good of pair as the earlier two.

Whoa, so soon! I'm totally looking forward to this. It looks so good. I love the drama posters-- they're so natural and lively. Why can't more/all dramas have these type of promo pictures rather than it being set in the typical bland white box/space then photoshopping things afterwards? I don't understand... Anyways, I'm ready to see these dapper men in action and Ha Ji-won! Ha Ji-won!

I loved In Time With You. LI DA REN!!! BOLIN CHEN!!! KYAAAAAAA!! I NEED YOU IN MY LIFE!!!!

Ahem, ok back to the comment. the reason why In Time With You was such a big hit was because the characters weren't over the top. they were as realistic as they could get in a drama & of course, the completely heart breaking factor of Li Da Ren. Bolin Chen carried the show. i saw this teaser & frankly, apart from maybe the story, it didn't look anything like In Time With You. the characters were over the top, exaggerated, etc. I couldn't feel the vulnerability in this guy that i felt in Li Da Ren. Yes I know the show hasn't started but still. Frankly, the drama looks like any other k-drama to me, & it is exactly what i would have thought if i hadn't know that it was a remake of In Time With You.

Chu Soo Hyun looks so different here as compared to Pinocchio. Didn't watch Gapdong, but I liked her in Pinocchio.
I have liked LJW since Air City and HJW since WHIB (and how is it she doesn't age all these years?) so these two are enough for me to be totally interested in this show. The fact that I enjoyed the TW version and that I like the two second leads are just bonus :)
The black vs the white, was that intentional?
