EPISODE 6: “Understanding broadcast accidents”
Seung-chan asks Joon-mo whether he remembers Ye-jin’s drunken words the other night. Joon-mo thinks, “Of course I do, why wouldn’t I remember—that accident.” He explains that accidents arise after three factors provoke it, and that night Ye-jin got upset (at being embarrassed over the Cindy incident), she drank on an empty stomach, and Joon-mo felt the urge to drink.
We jump back to the events of that night, after Ye-jin passes out at the pojangmacha. Joon-mo carries her home on piggyback, and Seung-chan zigzags tipsily behind him while admonishing Joon-mo not to zigzag so much. God I love drunk Seung-chan. He insists on seeing them home, while staggering off at intervals to fall down and puke into bushes.
Joon-mo looks after Ye-jin that night, then tells us that after spending the night in confusion, he decided to forget the accident, which would allow them all to return as things were. “But of all things, this kid had to remember everything.”
Back to their confrontation, where Seung-chan says that he finds Joon-mo’s actions cowardly, because even if you edit things out, the original content exists somewhere. Joon-mo continues the metaphor, saying that it’s up to the tape’s owner to decide what to do with that original, whether it be saving it or getting rid of it.
Seung-chan replies that Joon-mo must have never experienced a one-sided love, because if he knew how it felt to like someone and be unable to give up, he’d never be able to pretend not to know Ye-jin’s feelings. Joon-mo tells him he ought to be a prosecutor instead of a PD, but Seung-chan counters that his role in this case is as witness, with a duty to tell the whole truth to Ye-jin.
Joon-mo picks up on Seung-chan’s answer, in siding with Ye-jin, but breaks the moment by reminding them they have to go edit. Not a metaphor this time, since they have an episode to get out.
Back in the editing bay, Seung-chan delivers iced coffee to Joon-mo, then waits with anticipation for him to take a sip. Joon-mo’s face screws up in disgust, and Seung-chan hides a smile before pretending with a totally innocent face that he thought Joon-mo requested tons of syrup, rather than none at all. HAHA. He’s finally using his clueless reputation to his advantage, the wily little nerd.
Then when Joon-mo chuckles over a funny clip, Seung-chan hides his own laugh to say blandly that it’s kind of old-fashioned and obvious.
Joon-mo doesn’t buy Seung-chan’s innocent act and calls him a terrible liar, and Seung-chan just silently gets up and leaves the room. He calls Ye-jin to meet outside her building, and tells her that Joon-mo was assuredly drunk and doesn’t recall her confession.
Ye-jin brightens in relief, and when she admits to feeling embarrassed to have him know all this, Seung-chan tells her that liking somebody isn’t anything to be embarrassed about. She explains how her apartment came to be Joon-mo’s apartment, and they realize they’d both grown up here, playing on this playground.
In a flashback to 1997, we see Ye-jin crying on the same swing set, with Joon-mo sitting next to her. She’s upset about having to leave Seoul and giving up her apartment to Joon-mo’s family, though she’s touched when Joon-mo cradles her head and pats her shoulder, telling her not to cry.
In the present, Ye-jin ruefully notes that she’s confiding a lot in Seung-chan, and he looks pleased at that, reminding her that she can talk to him whenever she wants. She ruffles his hair affectionately, which makes him even more bashful.
Ye-jin’s the one who points out that his phone’s been ringing all this while, and it’s only now that Seung-chan notices and hurriedly assures Joon-mo he’s on his way back. He dashes off, then returns to give Ye-jin a bow before running off again. And that’s when she finally changes his saved ID in her phone log, from “Door Dent” to his actual name.
Brownnosing PD Hong-soon spies Office Nazi driving in a fancy convertible and fixates on how she can afford the car. He wonders whether she’s siphoning office supply money to fund her lifestyle (which would take her a hundred years to amass that amount, Joon-mo points out) or blackmailing higher-ups. Ye-jin asks if he likes her, tired of hearing about this for days on end.
Hong-soon asks Ye-jin for her help on a special broadcast he’s putting together of KBS Big Show, a music concert program. The special features families of politicians and bigshots as guests, and he’s got his eye on sucking up to the VIPs and asks Ye-jin to manage the stage performances (which she points out is his job).
Cindy is slated to perform and hears that this program often uses PDs from other shows, which makes her wonder whether any 1N2D PDs might be working there. Her manager oppa guesses she means Umbrella PD, and for one hot second she looks alarmed that he knows about her interest—until he declares that she must be worried Seung-chan will muck things up.
He’s about to make the demand to keep Seung-chan far away from the show when Cindy snaps at oppa to stop reading extra meaning into her words, to which he points out that she’d ordered him to read more the last time.
In anticipation of their new season’s premiere, the 1N2D team makes a pool betting on their first episode’s ratings. They range from 7 percent (pessimistic, but certainly not likely to happen, says CP Kim) to 15 percent (overly optimistic, though it makes them all feel good), until Seung-chan offers up a precise 6.8 percent prediction with all the research to back it up. It kills the mood, though not as much as Joon-mo assuring his team that he has a really good feeling about this season—strangely, his optimism puts his team in panic mode.
The FD explains to Seung-chan that Joon-mo has a reputation for jinxed predictions—if he thinks something will be great, it’ll tank, and vice versa. Flashback to Joon-mo insisting everything we know to be false: that Lee Seung-gi should only sing and not do variety, that Suzy is the least appealing of her group, and that Norazo will be the face of Hallyu. He’s so reliably wrong that managers go to him for his opinions—and then do the opposite. (Ha, it’s running joke on the real 1N2D that Cha Tae-hyun has terrible luck, always guessing the exact opposite of what’s true, to comical results.)
Showtime. Seung-chan’s family welcomes him home as they all sit around waiting for the show to come on. CP Kim, on the other hand, has to actually beg his daughter to turn the station from competitor show Running Man to 1N2D instead.
Seung-chan’s parents are excitable and enthusiastic, though as the show goes on, the mood grows quieter and quieter—they don’t quite see the appeal of the show and Dad wonders, “Why do they sound the laughing noises when things aren’t funny?” Seung-chan: “It’s supposed to be funny…”
Then the show airs the bit of Seung-chan and Cindy hiking through the woods, him catching her when she trips, and him bending down to tie her shoelace. It’s a lovely romantic moment and Cindy smiles to watch it—although it puts Seung-chan’s family in an uproar that some hussy who dances in her underwear would dare make their precious son stoop to tie her shoe.
Joon-mo and Ye-jin watch together, and she comments that Seung-chan looks good onscreen, and manly—a remark that Joon-mo doesn’t appreciate. But a bigger problem strikes when a mistaken caption comes onscreen, labeling their location with the wrong province name. Eek!
Ye-jin steps aside to take a call from Joon-mo’s mother, who asks her to make sure Joon-mo makes his blind date with the prosecutor’s daughter. He’d missed the first one and is refusing to go to the rescheduled date (to Ye-jin’s pleasure), and when Mom threatens to barge into his home herself to see about his hidden woman, she hastily promises to do what she can.
The caption error is going to be a headache to deal with, and Joon-mo’s already dreading the fallout. Ye-jin tries cheering Joon-mo up, then broaches the topic of his date—but before she can say much, he tells her he already went on it. Huh.
She looks him face to face while he studiously avoids meeting her eye, and she calls him out on the lie. It makes her conclude that he heard her confession after all, and he’s drawing the line between them. He insists she has it wrong, calling her confession an accident—and if he acknowledged it, things could get awkward between them. “We’re good right now,” he says. “It’s comfortable.”
Disappointed, she just agrees and says she caused the accident and apologizes for the inconvenience. “You’re right, it was an accident. I didn’t mean it,” she says. “But strangely, right now I’m a lot more embarrassed and hurt than when I’ve been dumped by someone. You did this.”
She retreats to her room and buries herself under the covers, and Joon-mo can’t do anything but feel terrible.
Ratings are posted at the office, and turns out, Seung-chan was right on the money. He wins the pool and everyone hands him cash, which doesn’t make him feel any better—especially when Joon-mo pettily pays him in singles. He compliments Seung-chan’s foresight sarcastically, and word spreads quickly about his supposed clairvoyance.
Seung-chan’s broadcast appearance makes the Office Nazi look at him differently, too, and when he goes to her desk on an errand, she hands him a ream of paper he didn’t even ask for. “Keep it, and use as needed,” she says breathily. Omg, that’s hilarious. Then she asks him about her future, hoping he can read her fortune.
Joon-mo is taken to task for the caption accident, and stays late writing a report of how the accident came to pass, and how the critical issue with accidents is how you handle the aftermath. He looks over at Ye-jin, wondering what to do with both accidents.
Seung-chan catches up to Ye-jin as she’s heading home, bounding up to her wearing a huge smile. He makes up the excuse of wanting meat for dinner to invite her along, and buys expensive beef that he grills for her. She tells him that Joon-mo heard her confession after all, and when he asks what she likes about Joon-mo, she sighs that she doesn’t know. She asks him what he liked about his sunbae, and he thinks it over: “She’s pretty… and… she’s pretty.”
Ye-jin figures that men just need women to be pretty, and says wistfully that to Joon-mo, she must be a comfortable longtime buddy: “I must not be pretty to him.” Seung-chan blurts, “You’re pretty.” She looks up in surprise, and he repeats, “You’re pretty too.” Aw, so sweet. It makes her smile, though she just takes the kind words as evidence of his improved social skills.
Joon-mo sits around waiting for Ye-jin to come home, visibly disappointed when it’s kid bro Ye-joon instead. Ye-joon guesses that they fought and offers up the information that Ye-jin’s looking into month-to-month housing, and does his Cupid thing by trying to make it seem like part of a dating game power play so Joon-mo can step in and dissuade her. But when he does ask Ye-jin about it, he finds that she’s serious, and that moving out is her method of cleaning up her “accident.”
Hurt, he tells her to do whatever she wants, which he seems to regret right away. But she leaves the apartment and spends the night at her office rather than coming back home.
In the morning, the bratty writer is first in and sees Ye-jin sleeping in a chair, and offers her something to cover up with. It’s a grudgingly nice gesture from the rude upstart… until she drops a towel over Ye-jin’s face, saying she’ll want to cover that up. God. Why are you still employed anywhere? I don’t get her, but I hate her. Learn manners and get off my lawn!
It’s the day of the Big Show taping, and Ye-jin gets her crew in place, which includes Seung-chan on standby duty, making sure all the performers have everything they need.
Cindy arrives in the parking lot, and runs into Lee Seung-gi, playing a hilarious version of himself that may very well be true, where he’s super nice and helpful, but mostly because that’s his established image and he’s in too deep to risk damaging it. He adds that he’s envious of Cindy for being able to get angry and act out whenever she wants, since that fits her bratty image.
Cindy rolls her eyes and wonders why he went for the perfect boy-next-door image in the first place. Seung-gi says you don’t know what’ll stick when you debut, so you just go with what works. He admits that it’s stressful keeping it up all the time, but whispers a secret: There’s a special group of celebrities with good images, which includes Yoo Jae-suk (national MC known for being awesome) and Sean of Jinusean (famously philanthropic with his wife, Jung Hye-young).
Cindy asks how that gathering helps relieve stress, and Seung-gi says they compete with things like community service and donations. LOL. That’s awesome and hysterical. You guys would relieve stress by doing more good deeds. Then Seung-gi rushes off to help a boy who tripped and makes a photo op of it.
Cindy watches Seung-gi’s display shaking her head, but when it’s time to ready for her performance, she wants to change her image up this time, ditching the strong, sexy look for a softer, cuter one. She asks her manager if the PDs will be by to check on her before the show, and oppa is proud to inform her that he told them to leave her alone today. She glares, and he asks, “Was that… not right?”
He fixes things by bungling them again, naturally, and sends Ye-jin in to check on her, having demanded the PD in charge to come in person. Cindy says very casually that she only meant for minor checks, which could fall to a lower PD, and Ye-jin’s happy to call in Seung-chan instead.
Cindy sits up straighter when he enters, and perks up visibly as Ye-jin informs her that Seung-chan will be going through all the pre-show checks with her.
As Ye-jin and Seung-chan leave the dressing room, Seung-gi grabs her from behind in a bear hug, and they have an enthusiastic reunion that sours the expression on Seung-chan’s face. Ah, I love when he’s jealous.
It says something about Seung-chan’s improvement in feigning innocence that I’m not entirely sure he’s being serious when he says that he didn’t know Seung-gi was a singer, and brings up one of the dramas he did AGES ago (rather than, say, any of the huge hits in the meantime) which his mother loved, and then gets his character’s name wrong to boot.
Ye-jin jumps in to sing Seung-gi’s praises, but in the process inadvertently ruffles Seung-gi’s feathers by getting his song titles wrong. Ha, Seung-gi is unexpectedly sensitive about this, correcting her minor errors (“Marry Me” instead of “Will You Marry Me,” for instance). They head off for coffee together and leave him behind, sulking.
Cindy smiles at Seung-chan as they head off to the stage together, and her manager and stylist are absolutely floored: “Did she just… smile? Not sneer, or snort, but just smile?”
Seung-chan gets Cindy miked up for her performance, and she stands frozen with heart pounding as he leans close to affix her mic pack. Then he apologizes for the discourtesy before leaning in even closer, brushing her hair aside, and fixing the earpiece that’s slipped. It’s a wonder she doesn’t melt right into the floor.
Next he ushers her to the lift to rehearse her entrance, offering her a hand, which she clasps, and then grabbing her arms to steady himself when the lift lurches. All the while Cindy clenches her fists tightly, trying to act cool on the surface while he remains oblivious.
CP Kim and Hong-soon stuff themselves on their lunch break, only to run into the station director on their way back, who suggests lunch. Both of them are ever keen to seize opportunities to get in with their superiors, so they uneasily agree to another lunch, though CP Kim is the smarter of the two brownnosers and excuses himself to check on the show, earning extra points for his dedication.
Ye-jin is onstage preparing for the show when a mechanized platform begins moving onto the stage. She calls over to Cindy, who’s standing in the middle of the stage with eyes closed, listening to something, and when she sees that Cindy isn’t aware that she’s in the platform’s path, she rushes forward to shove her out of the way. In the process, Ye-jin gets hit with the platform and falls with a thud.
Seung-chan hears of the accident and races for the hospital, where he asks about the KBS accident. He’s directed to an area, but to his surprise, it’s Cindy lying in the hospital bed. He asks for Ye-jin, but Cindy doesn’t know where she went.
Turns out Ye-jin got up from being hit, only to see that she’d shoved Cindy into the lift pit, hurting her ankle. He finds Ye-jin in the waiting area nursing a bruised arm, and she’s defensive about being hurt too. Seung-chan is so relieved she’s okay that he just smiles doofily while she complains about Cindy getting all the medical attention while she has to wait.
Joon-mo is out with his team scouting locations when a message pings in Hong-soon’s chat room. He ignores it, thinking it more nonsense, so it takes a while for him to actually read it. (In typical Hong-soon fashion, he makes the accident announcement all about his hardship in directing the show alone.)
Ye-jin and Seung-chan head to check on Cindy, having heard that the doctors recommended a minimum four-day stay in the hospital. They encounter a wall of Cindy’s oppa fans outside her wing, who hear that they’re PDs and ask for information—is it true somebody pushed Cindy onstage? Ye-jin gulps and says she knows nothing, and when the oppas recognize Seung-chan from 1N2D, she hurriedly pushes him along before they get caught up by the fanboys.
Ye-jin approaches cautiously, but Cindy’s surprisingly reasonable about the accident, saying that she knows it wasn’t intentional and that she doesn’t blame them. She even says it afforded her a rare chance to sleep more than three hours, and will consider it a nice break.
CEO Byun is of a different mind entirely, though, and arrives in high dudgeon, slapping the manager oppa for letting this happen. Then she turns to Cindy oozing premeditated concern, saying how of course her injury is most important, and she worked so hard to cancel all Cindy’s engagements for the day, but she absolutely must make her Japan event in two days because the breach fee is so high.
Ye-jin balks at this disregard of doctor’s orders, and Seung-chan chimes in with his own protests. Together, the two defend Cindy’s right to rest, citing potential legal ramifications if she insists despite the medical diagnosis.
Then as they leave Cindy’s wing, they see the wall of fanboys outside and Ye-jin grabs Seung-chan’s hand tightly. He smiles bashfully the whole time, as Ye-jin pulls him past the fans’ clutches.
Meanwhile, Joon-mo hurries back to Seoul, receiving no answer on Ye-jin’s phone and getting stuck in bad traffic. Cindy listens dully as CEO Byun presses her to make all her engagements, Hong-soon bemoans his bad luck at actually having to direct his show (instead of hobnobbing with the VIP guests), and Ye-joon looks for new apartments while wishing they could stay here.
A look at Chapter 6 gives us the lesson for today, regarding broadcast accidents: “No matter how much you reflect on it, it’ll happen again.”
Cindy’s manager oppa trembles in the aftermath of being slapped, while Cindy cries to herself in her hospital bed.
Joon-mo pulls up to the hospital just as Ye-jin walks out with Seung-chan, and in his great relief to see her in safe health, he does his usual (wrong) thing and covers it up by picking on her. He asks after Cindy instead, blaming her for the accident and clucking that he knew she’d get into trouble. Aw, don’t you rub salt in the wound!
So when he tries to check on her arm injury, a stung Ye-jin recoils and says she’s sorry for hurting his cast member and making his life difficult.
She walks off crying, and Seung-chan finds her and silently hands her a handkerchief. She asks why he’s always around to see her making mistakes and asks to be left alone.
“Sunbae,” he says seriously. “I’m sorry too. I think I’m about to cause an accident.”
Then he steps forward to cradle her head and hold her to him, in a position that echoes teenage Joon-mo.
EPILOGUE
Seung-gi surprises Ye-jin backstage, and while he’s heaping on the compliments, Seung-chan watches sourly and trudges off feeling jealous. But then he spies Seung-gi’s name on the dressing room door, takes a furtive look around, and whips out a pen.
He scribbles furiously for a while, and then the door opens and Seung-gi steps out. He greets Seung-chan with alacrity, then bounds off to do more good deeds for a passing writer. And Seung-chan looks back at his graffiti with a satisfied smile: Instead of reading “Lee Seung-gi nim,” it now just reads “Lee Seung-gi.” Oooooh, that’ll show him!
COMMENTS
I love Seung-chan so much, in all of his iterations, and it’s no wonder that Kim Soo-hyun has another hit on his hands. How is it that every project he does is a career-making one? Some of this must be attributed to luck and good fortune and good projects, but at this rate, his amazing success rate really has to point to his talent. I know he’s acting, particularly since he’s played such a wide range of personality types at this point, but his Seung-chan feels completely real and in the moment, which is a huge part of the reason he’s so compelling. My admiration may be for Kim Soo-hyun the actor, but all of my sympathies and emotional investment is with Seung-chan the character.
I love that Seung-chan is childishly petty while at the same time conveying a wisdom that speaks of greater maturity. His juvenile pranks in earlier episodes regarding his noona crush were funny as comic beats on their own, but the show has tapped into something even better by repeating that dynamic with Ye-jin as the cause, because I care about her (and his crush on her) in a way that I didn’t care about his noona. And now that he’s cluing in (a little bit, and in pieces) to how to be sarcastic or roundabout or doubletalking, and gets to use his reputation as a clueless kid as his shield. It’s the best thing to see him learning how to say the opposite of what he means, and dishing things back to Joon-mo.
Of course, when it really matters he’s the most honest and stiffly principled of everyone, so I’m glad that this foray into sarcasm and passive-aggressiveness isn’t, say, tainting his eternal soul. He’s straightforward in an admirable way, which contrasts with Joon-mo’s passivity.
Granted, Joon-mo is the one who acts more like a normal person, with all of a normal person’s attendant insecurities, fears, and defensiveness. I’m mad at Joon-mo right now and reserve the right to hold today’s episode against him for a good long while (okay, at least another episode or two), but I totally understand his reactions. Seung-chan had it right by calling him cowardly, but it’s not more cowardly than the average person trying to protect themselves and fearing rocking the boat—better to hold onto the thing you want than to dare hope for the moon, isn’t it?
It’s the classic underachiever’s dilemma, where trying to protect yourself actually ensures yourself against the one thing that would make all that pain worth it. But in this mode, you’re more about hedging your bets and hanging on to what you have than venturing out into the unknown. It’s ironic that his comment about editing was all about giving up something good to hold onto something better, because from the perspective of us, the omniscient viewer, the “something better” would be to have Ye-jin’s love, which is what they both want. But from his limited perspective, he can’t know that, and so for him something better is the bird in the hand, not the two in the bush.
I’m not sure where things are headed for Cindy, but I really like the way the show depicts her budding feelings—it’s all in the sidelong glances and hopeful looks, and what’s not said rather than what is. When we’re in her point of view, all time slows to a crawl and every one of Seung-chan’s movements is magnified in glorious slo-mo… and then we cut over to him and he’s going about his business briskly, not noticing that this very small touch, interaction, or look is a momentous thing to her. It’s so reminiscent of a youthful crush, and makes me thrill a little for her while also feeling pre-emptive pity for the fact that it’s all unreciprocated.
I suppose the romantic feelings are unreciprocated for Seung-chan too, but that dynamic feels different to me, because you can see that he’s becoming an important person to Ye-jin. She may not love him, but he’s definitely a comforting presence, particularly since her supposed best friend is actively inflicting wounds now. (Seriously, Joon-mo. You’re on my shit list for the week.)
I don’t know yet how I want this romantic tangle to work out, because I like Ye-jin and Seung-chan so much that I want both of them to get what their hearts want, but those things are at odds with each other. But maybe the important thing isn’t their romantic roles for each other but their friendship ones, where she’s a guiding hand in his career struggles and he’s a spot of comfort in hers.

Ye Jin's love for Joon Mo is too powerful that i bet will hurt Seung Chan's feelings for her, poor Seung Chan but it's the perfect chance for Cindy to make more obvious moves about her feelings for him and not just suppressing it deep inside..I am really rooting for Cin-Chan couple...
We're aware that Cindy has an image of an ice princess because of her past difficulties but because of Seung Chan she is finally breaking down her wall bit by bit so if the writer doesn't give her Seung Chan it will be just too painful,i mean her character is pitiful enough from the beginning and it's not right that it will be to the end..Cin-Chan Couple fighting!!

Gosh, forgive me, but when SC and Cindy were going up on the lift and being in front of the lights all I could think of was, "FORESHADOWING PLEASE???" Haha. Who says a star can't be with a PD? Julia Roberts did it with her cameraman and as far as I know they're still together. I just want these two dorks to find each other in the last 6 episodes.
Of course, though, JM and YJ remain the superior OTP for me. 20 years of friendship with underlying feelings is hard to beat, especially since dramas tend to put great importance on them as well as First Loves. Who knows though, the writer might write another noona romance like her previous hit but I really hope she'd make two different relationships out of this one. I'm such a sucker for best friends falling in love and Notting Hill type tropes!

Yeah, JM and YJ are who I'm rooting for too. To be honest, I don't particularly feel SC with anyone. I love him, but I really feel like what I want for him is to make some good friends and have a good start on his career. I think he'll have no problem finding someone right for him, but what he's missing from is life are really friends/mentors. But obviously I know they won't leave him solo considering who he's playing and the plethora of pissed fangirls.

That stage lift scene could be a metaphor for Cindy's feelings as well. On the lift BSC says "Is it supposed to shake? Isn't it broken?" and Cindy says "It's originally supposed to shake."
That could be interpreted as Cindy's heart because she's never given herself the chance to feel these sort of emotions, that is, before she met BSC.

I really really agree with JB! It seems I've said this in every episode and yet, I also feel I haven't said it enough; Kim Soo-hyun is just absolutely phenomenal here, his acting is a little genius. Seung-chan's lines are great to me since I love frank people, but its the way it is delivered that always reels me in. In the first scene with Joon-mo, even if Seung-chan continued to call out on his mistakes, there wasn't a moment when I felt he was being disrespectful. Instead, it was just raw honesty and sincerity. I'm really taken by how much detail and thought Kim Soo-hyun puts onto Seung-chan's every move. Even just minor things like fiddling with his hands, biting his lips or the way he smiles when with family vs. with his crush. He truly does deserve all the success and accolades he gets for everything he does. The effort just shines along with the talent and that counts for so much to me.
Before this drama, I've never been more neutral on which girl should get the guy! I'm loving both Ye-jin and Cindy's relationship with Seung-chan although the more they develop his liking for Ye-jin, the more I'm drawn into them. I love the friendship they share which is believable, sincere and really worth rooting for to turn into something deeper. Its feels like they sorta need each other to heal in some ways, and I ship that a lot if I were honest with myself. Ye-jin craves for the love and care that Seung-chan gives her very openly so I can really see her falling in love with him. But on the flip side, I love Cindy just as much with her vulnerability and childlike innocence. I feel so sorry for her and the kind of life she lives. Surely Seung-chan would be the guy to bring her out of that darkness. Which is why its all so conflicting for me. I wish I could divide him into half so both my girls would be happy.
Joon-mo is so disappointing that I don't even feel like talking about him or caring for him any longer. As for the cameo, Seung-gi was hilarious! But while I'm sure Seung-gi is actually just that nice in real life, I do think there's some truth behind the burden of keeping a good image. So his exaggerated helpfulness/control was too funny and even better was Seung-chan's ridiculously petty revenge. This kid really cracks me up with his vengeful streaks. He just doesn't know how to let things go lol.

Joon Mo is ridiculous. He has been residing in my shit list since the drama started and it looks like he'll remain there for the entire drama. Ye Jin is not any better in my books but its credit to Seung Chan that I care for her now. I hope he ends up with who he loves whether that is eventually Cindy or remains to be Ye Jin.

I agree, as much as I love Seung-chan, it's Joon-mo that I find myself rooting for. Even when he does behave like a shit, I find him utterly relatable - the kind that puts his foot in his mouth but regrets it soon afterwards only to dig his grave that little bit deeper. The important thing is, is that he's not unaffected, and that he ultimately cares. He's going to have to work at it though, and I look forward to when he does say the right thing at the right time, cause I love his friendship with Ye-jin, and the sparks of it being much more seriously gets me feeling giddy.
Seung-chan is just gold whichever way they take his character. I like that he plays the voice of reason, and is able to console and offer words of wisdom to both Joon-mo and Re-jin. And I love that his growing affections for Re-jin is driving him to fight his own corner, but at the same time, he doesn't allow his selfishness to cloud his better judgement or turn it into foul play. He might be petty, but he sure doesn't wish harm on anybody.
And the fact that he looks up to Joon-mo and is always looking to appease him, albeit grudgingly, makes me feel that in the long run, Seung chan will end up playing cupid between the two sunbaes that he so looks up to. Seriously, I'm loving all of their interactions!

The Producers finally hits ALL the right notes for me in this ep! And mostly it's bcos of Kim Soo Hyun's acting. It is funny mostly bcos of his deadpan face and Seung Chan's behavioural traits, like revenge, like being exact at rating forecast. The other actors are of course great, but their chars. are older and more jaded at work and at love.
I've stuck w it for so long only bcos of the cast. The heroine has been an annoying char. in everything she says and does. But she finally softens and we get to see what she means behind what she says. She can be with Joon Mo, whom she loves; it's only that he hasn't owned up to it yet. The kid has a crush, but what does he know about women as convoluted as Ye Jin?
Cindy steals my heart cos that poor girl has been working hard and isolated since she was 13. Finally she sees sb who is earnest and kind....I don't suppose she has ever met anyone like that in her field, in her entire life. I really hope she gets to have a nice little romance with Seung Chan. It'll do her tremendous good. Or else her world is a very cold and calculating one. She doesn't get to eat or even sleep for 3 hours straight w/o an accident for crying out loud!

People want characters to be too nice or lacking in flaws - which frankly, makes them boring and makes for boring TV.
YJ is the funniest character (despite KSH's deadpan delivery) and her flaws is what makes her interesting.
JM is doing what he's doing not be he's simply an a-hole, but b/c he has real fears and doesn't yet have the courage to face them (his character, being more on the cowardly side).
He cares deeply for YJ, but he doesn't know how to show it since he fears that it would affect the lifelong friendship.

I agree with that. Perfect characters do not make for an interesting watch.
And you can't demand that characters be three-dimensional - which inevitably means they will have flaws - and then get mad at the fact that they sometimes do things driven by those character flaws. Whether it's Joon-mo's passiveness, or Ye-jin's pride, or Seung-chan's naivete or Cindy's diva attitude, those things ultimately contribute to driving their actions and making for an interesting story.

Seriously why do ppl think the reason some dont ship YJ with JM is because he's played by someone not as attractive as KSH? Its so immature. I like CTH enough, but he has NO chemistry with GHJ whereas KSH does. Also, to me YJ-SC matches so much more.

I actually think CTH fits the char more, in his very laid back approach to life, with his lazy-hazy, devil can care attitude. JM is also shown as sb who is not good at his job, vey bad actually, always being chewed out by his boss, always in trouble w the KCC, and getting no respect from his co-workers and subordinates. It is believable that such a person is not decisive in his love life too. In short, he basically has his head in his ass, which is why most viewers here say they don't like him.
I can Not see Jo In Sung playing such a char convincingly. But the pt is YJ loves him, and has loved him for years, and he loves her too, so I think they will be happy together. CTH is playing this role perfectly.

I actually think CTH is super attractive. I watched It's Okay It's Love - Jo In Sung is handsome too, but CTH has that super manly and not overtly confident vibe to him. Granted, he owns the scenes he's in so I find him much more appealing.
I think it's pretty ridiculous when you try to say that CTH is the reason why most people are shipping Ye Jin and Seung Chan. It's all about character development - CTH is playing his character to the tee, and I think he has awesome chemistry with GHJ as well. We'll see in the end who Ye Jin will end up with, but we shouldn't be basing it off of the attractiveness of the male lead...

God, I couldn't agree with you more. The only scenes I'm 100% looking forward to seeing are when CTH and GHJ interacted with each other. Freaking hell! I love them separately but seeing them playing their characters so charmingly with tons of chemistry made me ship them together as well.
The way people praised KSH and said how he carried the show made me dislike him. Haizz. Give credit where it's due. *sideeye*. For me SC is not someone I feel for at all, while JM and YJ together share something so intimate and closer to my heart.
Btw, CTH is super adorable and natural in his art. He played JM so perfectly just as i expected. GHJ is very charming as always. If you only knew. KSH got lots of people waiting to hate on him and rip him apart with a single mistake so they could take him down. If KSH in the slightest did not give justice to BSC character, he would be receiving so much hate right now. I can assure you that. But since he acted BSC really well even his haters cannot bash his acting. The best they can do is say that he was just okay and hate on him on different things.
I don't think people really is over praising Kim Soo Hyun. Most just stated they think he is doing well and that his acting as BSC is great. And people also praise CTH and GHJ, if anything it is IU who is receiving hate for her acting when the girl's acting is actually okay now. Most comments saying KSH is carrying this show etc. comes from the Knetz/Korean fans. (Chinese fans do the same though that may only be because KSH have lots of Chinese fans). Most international fans actually praise CTH and GHJ so much.

I would like Seung Chan's manly approach to Ye Jin be just considered as a friendly gesture to her..They make a great best friends now that Ye Jin is on the verge of losing hers with Joon Mo because admit it or not they both have romantic feelings for each other and the friendship they had for years is making it hard for them, they're thinking of a great risk and loss if they make wrong decisions..Honestly,bests friends falling in love is not a big deal,i read in a psychology paper that people who are more comfortable with each other and knows every bit of that person will at some point fall in love..
Moving on..Baek Seung Chan's character is just so cute that even the almighty Cindy has melted,he even got to make her laugh genuinely. He's doing all sorts of normal stuffs for her but because of his oblivious character he doesn't even notice that this 'normal stuff'is making Cindy fall for her..They are kinda cute, projecting an old schooled and innocent love..

Same here too. I have to say, I hate this new development. It appears SC's acting out of character. The whole umbrella couple started because he's such of nice guy who decided to help out some girl in the rain. Now, he completely ignores her when she has an injury? Even though she was his responsibility (at least taking her to rehearse was), he's also the one who convinced her to go on the show, and promised to take care of her? I just find it difficult to resolve the character's 180 turn into someone who no longer cares. Especially after realizing that HJ wasn't that hurt. I'm feeling very sorry for Cindy, who now feels like a plot device.

May 31, 2015 at 3:52 AM
I'm not sure it's 180 degree turn.
I don't see him ignoring her – he didn't know she was at the hospital, when he saw her, he saw she was taken care of, and there wasn't anything else for him to do. That's essentially what he did when he gave her the umbrella – he didn't walk her to her car, or do anything extra.
That he still goes to check on his sunbae also makes sense, since he knew YJ was hurt and sticking around Cindy when he already knew she was being taken care of just because would make him more uncaring (because he'd be ignoring the other person injured). He'd do that only IF he was interested in Cindy (which he currently isn't at all), instead he has feelings for YJ, so of course he's going to stay with her.
As for Cindy being his responsibility – in this particular show she wasn't. He was actually responsible for all the stars getting on the stage, not Cindy's personal assistant or anything. He showed her the life, but then I imagine went off to take care of all the other things and people he was supposed to take care of!

He also took out the umbrella for her on the show and then promptly went over and covered the camera leaving Cindy in the rain. He's constantly prioritizing and then forgets about the other implications. I think he just only focuses on one thing at a time. It's like a constant checklist in his head. I feel sorry for Cindy too, more than YJ actually. Because she's hurt and saddled with a crazy schedule and has no one to talk to but just cry to herself at night alone in the hospital. Whereas YJ's hurts were noticed by SC who acts as a balm for her.
She's just been pushed around for so long that she doesn't even argue when Byun CEO insists on her fulfilling her schedule in Japan. But just looks down listlessly and resignedly.
It's not uncommon for actresses to protest against what they have to do in 1N2D, and we've seen the other actresses do that in the previous eps. But Cindy just went along with everything that SC tells her to do.
I'd feel for Cindy if SC ends up with YJ which looks like the way things are going since we're alr at the midpoint and SC just looks at Cindy like "Umbrella Lady", sort of the way YJ had saved SC's name as "Car Dent."

Sometime in this drama, I hope that Manager and Cindy will rise up against CEO Byun. I mean, who still cares about money even as her artist is already confined to a hospital. Gotta agree with that last scene where manager was just looking so pitiful for no reason.

Is it that hard to find friends in the entertainment industry?!

Cindy is my favorite character...she's so pitiful...lonely and just a little girl with no one to love her.
And I think IU is doing a fantastic job.
Manager oppa tries so hard for her and even when he doesn't understand her needs or make mistakes, she's not bitchy towards him...She's actually patient with him...
They are adorable together and I cried when he got slapped by the money-hungry CEO for no fault of his.
This industry is cruel...these idols are just products for these big companies.
All these kids do is rehearse, travel and perform; rehearse, travel and perform.
All the horrible stories I hear about the EXO's kids performing with severe injuries...it's just sad.
The PD change was a fantastic decision, and you can clearly see that. I was going to drop it after the 1st 2 episodes, but now, I'm looking forward to it.

I find the main characters interesting and I have preferences for them but I'm not going to die if it doesn't go how I hope. But I will be sad if manager doesn't get some good things in his life. I am rooting for Seung Chan and Cindy to get together. I stated this before, but I think Cindy needs someone caring. Someone who will call her on her bullshit but still be kind and attentive towards her.
Everyone caters to her and never contradict her and no one cares for her (or her feelings) She's like a race horse to most people in her life. I feel like Seung Chan could fill up the voids in her life.
Also, I think Seung Chan needs to be the one "being loved" not the one "who loves most"
What I mean is, that his relationships so far have been unrequited crushes towards older, more experienced women who treat him like a puppy or little brother. He needs a relationship I'm which the other person feels as strongly towards him as he has felt for his past and current crushes. I feel it would do him some good to be the main focus of someone and not be friendzoned again.
Cindy, from what I could see so far, looks like she would make Seung Chan her main focus if she gathers the courage someday to confess her feelings.
Anyways! Looking forward to Episode 7!!

I hope that Seung Chan's crush for YJ and her growing appreciation of him only act as an agent to spur JM out of his slumber. I don't see how SC and YJ are right for each other. He just has a tendency to develop crushes on his noonas. That's just his taking baby-steps towards learning to fall in love for real.
Cindy is falling for him hard. He'll mean so much to her, if he gives her a chance. She may have been cranky and mean, but if you or I've been starved of food and sleep and made to work like a priced race horse, I'm sure you or I'd be just as crank and mean too.

Even though I do see JMxYJ and SCxCindy ending but still atm I don't belittle whatever SC feeling towards YJ. To me it seems very genuine. It didn't start immediately, from the start he was intimidated, almost scared of by her attitude, but it's slowly changing with time. I can understand people want Cindy to be loved cause she's lonely etc. But the same can be applied to SC too. Like he was broken heart at first because of that noona, they didn't show how he started liking her. His reason was because she was pretty but i doubt it's only that. Nothing there to say that his feeling wasn't real/genuine. just as his feeling for YJ, whatever it is atm still must mean sth to him and we shouldn't disregard it as a simple crush. Cindy is falling for him, he should give her a chance. But then, SC is clearly falling for YJ too, if only she could give a chance, i don't see why they can't work? because she's older? she's his sunbae? the only thing that makes me believe they're not endgame is her liking JM and the fact that he likes her back. SC is there every time YJ needs him, always looking, always listening, caring, *sighs* but as they say, the heart wants what it wants.

"He (SC) just has a tendency to develop crushes on his noonas." I like that you pointed this out. SC seems to be (from the social perspective) falling for women way out of his league... from his college senior, now to a senior in his workplace... If he falls for Cindy... OMG, she's an idol!
I would enjoy this storyline (if it happens) because of course, Cindy fell for him first and it would be hilarious if we can see how people around them would react. (I would love to see how CEO Byun reacts to this. Hehehe)

Finally warming up a bit to Ye Jin. I really disliked her character but when she spilled tears, I guess I melted, heh. Still hate Joon Mo's guts and yesterday's episode just escalated that sentiment.
I really don't know where this drama is going in terms of the love lines. A part of me keeps screaming its so obviously Seung Chan and Ye Jin, but then there are scenes like that mike arrangement with Cindy - so hot and oozing with intense chemistry. Not sure if it was intended to come off like that, but it certainly had me fanning myself and in denial that they most likely wont be. However, the ending hug was also really heartfelt and moving so its not like on the losing end.
KSH's performance is just so grounded, impressive and crazy engaging to watch so I keep going back and forth on who I prefer for Seung Chan.

Eugh. Is the writer trying to pull another 1994? Cause I'm not in for triangle love. I don't mind a little affection here and there after the couples are determined (or no couple at all) but when it drifts from the actual purpose, it's becoming just 'another' drama you can find anywhere. Last episode they did a good job connecting the producing world and daily lives of the character but now they're not. And where's Cindy? Yesterday's development was good, but now she's in the background again.
Well, I'm still gonna watch this for CTH. They better do every character justice.

I feel like theyre throwing in bits of formula that makes other dramas famous like the office underdog feel of misaeng, the misleading moments of marriage not dating, the first love story of reply 1997 (and others but r97 sticks the most to me) and now they wanna get the netizens all worked up by pulling a r94. No matter whos endgame viewers will be divided. Sigh.

Though I like CTH for being a great actor without having handsome/pretty face whatsoever, I dont' want to have just whatever he's having because he reaches this point not without slumps (he even had panic disorder). What I admire is that he marries his first love & girlfriend (though he always despises 'what's so special in that?') and still going strong through ups and downs until 3 kids and more than 20 years later. He lives every woman's imagination in that part LOL.

For this kind of a plot which is far from a noona coup-de-foudre rom-com and much closer to a developing relationship to something(?) through hardships inside a professional environment, I think their looks are irrelevant. Their life goals are much more important and their mutual understanding, too.
I still fail to see BSC's connection with Cindy other than the 2 scenes you've mentioned. I totally ship JM and YJ to be together and I think they will. But the other couple need to struggle for their chemistry. Perhaps it's IU who cannot deliver...still I'm pondering over it!

That's still two more scenes than with with YJ. The so called connection or chemistry between BSC and TYJ is so forced, like it's thrown in as a vehicle to drive RJM and TYJ's stagnant relationship another level.
Their looks are relevant since this is dramaland. KSH and GHJ are not compatible appearance wise and it just gives off too much of a rocking the cradle vibe.
I don't care if BSC and Cindy don't end up together, as long as he doesn't end with aunty Ye Jin.

I'm so proud of BSC growing up and jumping straight into expert level by actng innocent hehe. But I can do without his very forwardness towards Yejin. Arghhhhhhh )= Can we please have more active screen time between Cindy and BSC? Where he actually talks to her and understands her? *sigh*
I really like Javabeans' analysis of why Joon-mo acts the way he does, and how it's a very human weakness. I think in this case, the script is staying pretty real instead of turning him into a noble idiot. I actually think Office Fairy has been torturing Hong-soon all the while because she likes him. Apparently he has been singled out – his department – so obviously it's been a way to get him to come see her more often than otherwise needed. Thi drama is going to the same way as the typical k drama usually goes. I am really disappointed with lack of character development of cindy. Writernim is doing the same thing with cindy as she did with Yoo inna's character in ywcs. Even if they don't give loveline to cindy Atleast tell us about Cindy's mysterious life. We don't know anything about her life except the thing that she is topstar. I shouldn't have believe from the start about this drama having 4 main leads with equal screen space. Cindy is only being used as third wheel for triangle love story and this is making me so mad

To my surprise, I'm loving Cindy as a char, and it's becos they are painting a very sympathetic picture of her. I can't agree at this pt that she's just being used as a 3rd wheel.
It's true that they haven't given Cindy a great deal of screen time in this ep, but we do get to see:
her trying to arrange ever so subtly for Seung Chan to be there with her for the Big Show; only his clueless manager gets it all wrong, COS she has Never been this way!
her manager and assistant being shocked that she actually let out a laugh, Cos she has Never done That b4!
her being strongly affected when SC clips on her mic, and fixes her earpiece;
her eyes opening wide when SC opens her hospital curtains, and see her anger and disappointment when he fails to show his concern for her;
her merciless work schedule, come rain or shine;
crying herself to sleep in that hospital bed, all alone in her room!
It isn't yet time for "char development". This ep. gives us a lot of info about her that endears her to us. Char development should come later when she has more interaction with SC, and become influenced by them. Give it a little more time.

"Char development should come later when she has more interaction with SC, and become influenced by them."
You didn't understand rosy's comment. They were stating that the Cindy functions more as a plot device than an actual fleshed out character. It's a little ridiculous that halfway through a 12 ep. series we still know very little about one of the supposed "4 main leads."

I think my comment applies to rosy's comment as well as yours, just that we interpret and react differently to what we see on screen.
I don't need Cindy to be a "fleshed out character" in ep 6. I'm enjoying the additional information that this ep. is giving re Cindy's inner world. In as much as that is happening, I don't see that she is a plot device.
She started being a trainee at 13. All she has known is training and non-stop work in a cut-throat business w a calculating 'mother', who is using her. Perhaps her life has been so barren that there isn't all that much more to know. Given this info, I feel for her plenty.

I think this is definitely going to end with Tak Ye-Jin and Joon-Mo together. The dynamics between TYJ and BSC are completely adorable and by far the most fun to watch but it's too easy to have them end up together at the end. Just because they're popular among Knets, I hope they won't necessarily go that route. I don't like Joon-Mo that much but Joon-Mo and Ye-Jin make the most sense.
I don't like Cindy much so far and she doesn't deserve Baek Seung Chan just quite yet. She needs to prove herself and grow into a more considerate person before I approve of her relationship with my lovable Baek Seung Chan. Haha. She's improving on me so I think she will get there eventually. Pretty sure they'll end up together but more in an implied and open-ended kind of way.

i feel sorry for cindy because seungchan does a lot of things that actually makes any girl fell for him. the sigh part is that he doesnt know that.
but instead of 4 side love, it leans towards triangle because there is no much of joonmo-cindy interactions :(
and here, joonmo's role is the most normal one. i mean the one that actually many exist in real world. it sounds boring, but comparing with smart-nerd-bit-awkward seungchan, sassy-confusing yejin, and bratty-but-lonely cindy that are more fictional, the avoid-reality-and-makes-mistakes joonmo is more humane...

And to add on to the KSH acting comment Javabeans made, I just wanted to say I think KSH is absolutely the heart and soul of Producers. He empathically pumps life and energy onto the show n its a testament to how charismatic he is that even if BSC is the exact opposite of the cool charming DMJ, he is still able to bring out the same positive reactions from the masses.

The thing is, Cindy is perfect for Seung Chan. She was made for him. Like, she tells him to get straight to the point when he waffles, and did you see when she managed to actually understand that horrid explanation he gave in the games? I'm of the firm belief that Cindy will probably understand him like no other. Ye Jin, on the other hand - whilst she's changed her perspective of Seung Chan from an annoying puppy to a good, kind friend, I don't think she'll ever see him as a nything more than someone who is a little 'cooler' in her eyes now. She's too hung up on Ra Joon Mo and it makes no sense for her decades-long crush to turn into nothing, especially since their interactions take up a laaarge portion of the romantic moments in the show. It would make no sense for that ship to sink.

Yes, i'm so disappointed to Joon Mo , but I trust him that he can change his mind.

OMO, this place is divided! If the writer is bothering to read the comments, they'll likely check articles on Nate/Naver where the majority of knetz ship GHJ with KSH. Some of the comments do say they dont care who ends up with KSH bcz he has chemistry with both. Mostly I wonder how much influence that will have on the final pairing.......

Yeah base on comments, Knetz in Naver definitely prefers GHJ-KSH pairing. I read an article with 10,000+ upvotes in a comment supporting GHJ-KSH pairing. Nate seems to like IU-KSH more but Nate is not as popular site as Naver because Naver is the biggest Korean site. And most upvotes IU-KSH got there is 1,000+ only.
Though if I am being honest, some Knetz only like KSH to end up with GHJ because they dislike IU's acting. They think GHJ is going great as TYJ while IU is doing pretty bad and so they do not think she deserves to pair up with KSH. I swear I read comments saying KSH is too much of a big star for IU. So they would prefer GHJ-KSH ending.
Well you know how Knetz put actors/actress higher than idols. I honestly do not care who BSH ends up with. I think he looks great with both Yejin and Cindy.

ahh. this so totally reminds me of reply 1994. i dont want to get heartbroken. lol
i actually like seungchan's chemistry with both ladies. however i think i like his chemistry with cindy more. their scenes are kinda sensual mixed with a bit of cuteness which made me go "omg kiss!". his scenes with yejin, on the other hand, only made me go 'aww cute'. i think thats probably because he acts too much of a puppy when he's around yejin that i can only think of cute rather than anything else. haha
but story-wise, i would have to say seungchan and yejin has more of a buildup that it would kinda make sense if they were to end up together.
BUT
if we were to talk about the context of the story, joonmo & yejin makes more sense. both of them have all these buried feelings for each other and it's just really obvious to us, viewers. but of course in joonmo's point of view, sometimes in life you just cant have the best of both worlds. he has two options. one is a love relationship and one is friendship. and he chose the safest route because he doesn't want to risk anything. and i totally get that.
from what i see, these two just needs a catalyst for them to open up and embrace the hidden feelings they have for each other. and that catalyst is seungchan.
i sincerely hope the story goes this way because it made more sense to me. with joonmo and yejin as the main pairing at the end. and i foresee seungchan and cindy becoming close as friends(since she really needs one) and the end would kinda hint on them maybe becoming more? pretty much an open ending for them and that's probably it. lol

Agree. Chilbong needs to drop by and tell Seung Chan about Na Jung & Sseuregi's story & he should also give some words of encouragement to Cindy "It ain't over, til it it's over" kkkk
Anyways, we still have 6 episodes to go. It may feel a little disappointing for us not to see Cindy longer than what we expect but I hope the writer has a valid reason for doing this because I believe that the PD is doing his own magic with the camera works & approach everytime we get BSC x CINDY scenes. They were able to tell us how YeJin & Joon Mo's relationship developed. They kept on using flashbacks to show us how they were as teenagers. That scene from 1997, on that swing. YOU SEE HOW TEENAGE JOON MO COMFORTED TEENAGE YEJIN AS HE TOUCHED HER HEAD? THAT WAS THE SAME THING BSC DID TO HER. If you're open-minded enough about couplings, you can tell that Yejin only remembered JoonMo that time. So, what's next? YeJin seeing that YOUNG JOON MO she knows in BSC? That's why YES for BSC as a catalyst. The writer won't give us more background about same roof couple if they're not supposed to be together.
We also want to see Cindy & BSC talking for real. Like what BSC & TYJ had at the playground. Would it hurt them to at least shoot a scene with KSH & IU talking about their family or interests? Hope not. It was easier for BSC to connect with TYJ because 1. He also used to have a noona crush 2. She is his sunbae, had more encounters from the beginning 3. Joon Mo is his senior in 1N2D, he knows their *secret* same address stuff BUT WHAT ABOUT CINDY?? the show's giving us magical moments courtesy of KSH & IU but they're not exploring the possibility til now. ARE THEY JUST WAITING FOR A RIGHT TIMING? As if they wanted to set up confusion first and make Joon Mo look as if he's stepping out, wanting us to believe that YeJin will finally see BSC as a man then moves out of Joon Mo's home?
Then boom, Cindy confesses her feelings to BSC. This will be a turning point if the PD will once again shoot the scene in a romantic light. THIS TIME, BSC WILL REALIZE SOMEONE'S INITIALLY LIKING HIM. He's used at crushing on someone first and as Little Wanderer stated on her comment *Also, I think Seung Chan needs to be the one “being loved” not the one “who loves most”*
Just wait til BSC realized how much Cindy appreciates him. Just wait til BSC finds out that he's a big influence in her life now. Just wait til BSC finally take responsibility for his actions. If the writer will keep on making him wrap under YeJin's spell then it's funny because BSC is going to be the most annoying character, even Chilbong gave way to the couple who truly match each other. I was Team Chilbong back then, it broke my heart and now I'm Team Cindy, I hope she gets the love she deserves. :)

KSH is seriously a standout. I read in the year and a half when he was working solely on CFs and fanmeets he took a few acting lessons to sharpen his skills and talent? Regardless on the reality of that, he certainly transformed into an even better actor from the one who acted Do Min Joon. I am so happy to see him taking on a different challenge rather than sticking to his tried and tested "cool" characters. It speaks so much of him as someone who is dedicated to his career and wants to move forward instead of living by a certain image. What is even better is because he has the abilities to back it up, most get swept by his performance instead of demanding the cool guy to return. Baek Seung Chan, this kid. I lufff him so much! I'd fight anyone who breaks his heart but here's to hoping that won't ever happen.

Thought KSH was good enough in "Dream High", TMTETS, "The Thieves" and YFAS - where I had no issue w/ his acting (aside from his tendency to cry exactly the same way in every role), but didn't take any particular note of it either.
Now, whether it be his improved skills or a better written part that allows him to flex his acting muscles, he certainly has impressed me w/ his nuanced acting in this role.
But however impressed I am by KSH here, am even more impressed by CTH who doesn't seem to be acting at all.
Also never took issue w/ CTH's acting (starting from his early film roles), but didn't take particular note of it either, but here, he is absolutely killing it as JM.

I don't know why you all feel Cindy and SC had a moment. From what I watch it looked like it was all Cindy feeling the moment. SC is crushing on YJ and YJ is starting to depend on him unconsciously which is where you can tell there is something brewing between them. I like Cindy but I don't see SC interested in her. He is just doing his job and being his polite self. Cindy on the other hand is falling hard. JM seem to life time friend-zoned YJ and isn't comfortable to change it. Not really. The BSC crush on TYJ came out of no where too, so why can't SC like Cindy later. The writer also gave them all the heart fluttering scenes to build up for their upcoming romance. I really think the purpose of the crushing line is to push Joon Mo to act on his feelings towards Ye Jin.

Like, I wouldn't have expected for BSC to crush on Ye Jin so quickly, and that happened. yea but i did find the wiring scene quiet hot. probably because of the BGM and Cindy's being uneasy. I'm for SC & YJ because of everything he's done for her or his reaction around her, from running errands, to lending her an ear, to telling her that she's pretty, to getting jealous, to be happy simply being next to her listening to her nagging.. damn it i feel like i'm falling for YJ at the same time as him lol sure i'd really hate it to see him heart broken again, but my instinct tells me it's inevitable. sth tells me YJ will avoid him altogether to straight out refused him later, cause you know how strong is old/best friends turn lovers trope in kdramaland! but rn i'll just enjoy this pairing for as long it last.

But by that logic it makes no sense to me why Ye-jin should fall for Seung-chan, because till now, it has only been Seung-chan feeling in the moments between them. She's starting to see him as comfortable, sure, but nothing beyond as yet. Not to mention, her feelings for Joon-mo run too deep.
From what we know and the show has explicitly told us, it's not that she's never seen anyone as a ~man before. She's even dated other guys (so obviously we have to presume she was attracted to them), and from their interviews it seemed like they were nice guys. So her falling for Seung-chan wouldn't suddenly...elevate him over those other guys. There's nothing to say that he still won't be second in her heart despite all his love/affection for her, even if she does indeed fall for him. In fact, it seems a bit of a stretch to suggest that Seung-chan can't fall for Cindy because he hasn't in the few weeks he's known her, but it's possible for Ye-jin to entirely give up her decades long love and fall for Seung-chan instead, because he's there for her. The other guys all suggested that they WERE there for her, they wanted to do things that she wanted to do, like see the cherry blossoms, and yet ALL OF THEM, without exception, could tell that she was in love with Joon-mo, so Seung-chan's knowledge of that isn't anything special or distinguishing either.
I feel like this drama is writing itself into a relationship hole because it wants to keep its endgame the talk of the town, and due to that, they're unable to convincingly develop their OTPs. To have so much focus on Ye-jin's feelings for Joon-mo in practically every scene she's in and stress how far back it goes and how much history they have, to turn around and say 'gotcha' seems strange. It would make sense if moving on was her arc, as it could well have been- that she finally gives up on her unrequited love and sees that she's not been fully letting anyone else in etc., but it's too late in the drama to convincingly do that. Because I don't feel that if Joon-mo were to be honest with Ye-jin and choose her, she wouldn't leave everyone else instantly, considering how much, and how deeply she loves him.

What an insightful comment. I do agree that it will be out of character for YM to fall and choose SC over JM just because SC is always there for him. Like what was stated, she did fall in love with other men but it was always short-lived and her exes even stated that it was because of JM. So what does BSC have that YJ's exes did not do for her? They loved her, they were always there for her, they listened to her. Even if YJ fall in love with BSC, what will be the assurance that her history with her exes will not happen again. I still believe that the story was written for JM-YJ pairing and if ever it will change just to please BSC-YJ shippers, then the storyline and characters will lost its credibility. Yes, feelings do change but it will only change if there will be closure. And so far as the story goes, there is still that hanging ??? there. I will only believe that BSC-YJ is really the end game if the story will tell us that JM does not have feelings for YJ and he really looks at her as a friend. If he will tell that to YJ, then YJ can really move on and open her heart to someone like BSC. I am not talking about chemistry here, I am only talking about what the writer had told us so far, and after episode 6, we know that JM had some certain feeling to YJ, otherwise, he will not kiss her even if drunk and he will move on and do those blind dates that his mom is pushing to him. In ep 6, he even lied to YJ that he went to the blind date when in fact, YJ knows he did not.
As for BSC, I still believe he will just a catalyst so that JM will have the courage to take a risk and confess to YJ what he feels. I am rooting for the umbrella couple but storywise, I believe the writer intends BSC to be a character driven arc and not in a romantic way. Based on the episodes, it seems BSC's role is to become a successful PD in the future. He still have a lot to learn as a PD and he needs to know what he really want. So I am ok with him not to have anyone in the end, although I wish for him to have at least an open ending romance with Cindy. As for Cindy, I believe she is also written as a character driven arc like BSC. She will fall in love with BSC and along the way learn how to become humane again. My two cents is that she will be heartbroken (I am really heartbroken writing these as I love Cindy) but these heartbreak from BSC will be her catalyst to maturity. Because of these heartbreak, she will compose a soulful heartbreaking song that will launch her as an artist and not just an idol. This will be her ticket to freedom from idol life.
My two cents for the ending. BSC will win an award, a DAESANG just like PD Na in Baeksang and he will encounter Cindy, who had already established herself as an artist and that's where my open ending romance will start. As he is giving his speech, PD YJ & RM is in the audience, married and have kids and still bickering who had influenced BSC more and wondering why they lost him to competitor broadcast...

'-nim' is an affix given to people who are considered to be due high respect, such as doctors from the standpoint of a patient, teachers from the standpoint of students' parents, or Lee SeungGi the Good from the standpoint of industry insiders/staff who acknowledge his worth and respect him for being "angel-like".
Removing that "-nim" just reduces him to some boring ol' average joe, which I'm guessing SeungChan thinks he is, ha.

Nim is added as a sign of respect. Because SC is super respectful, he is reluctant to drop the honorific but in the swing scene later on, he calls her Sunbae without the Nim. That just means he's trying to be less formal with her, basically lessening the distance b/w them.

SEUNG-CHAN <3<3<3
i absolutely loved the scenes between him and ye-jin, and him and cindy. like ye-jin said, he kind of comes across as... a man. kim soo-hyun actually made my heart flutter for him for the first time ever, and more than once at that!
i've always regarded kim soo-hyun with a very much noona-like fondness. he's my absolute favorite, and i adore him and love his clean cut, boy next door image. but that boyish appeal is really strong, and he's someone i'd love to lunch with or have a fun time with, but he doesn't necessarily make my heart flutter. those scenes with ye-jin and cindy totally changed that. clever editing? haha
i JUST commented a few hours ago how i didn't feel sympathy for cindy and her self-created hole of loneliness, but after the hospital scene with her money-minded agency boss, i might have changed my mind. slightly. still doesn't make it right, how she treats people, but i think we got a bit more context. i felt so bad for her manager! he's such a sweetheart to her, and totally didn't deserve that slap.
thank you for the recap!

BSC♥TYJ!!!!!
I can see that YJ is starting to see SC as a man. Although she still loves JM, I think she's might slowly change her feelings. It's very plausible. The way SC is there to care, love, and appreciate her is so touching.
I know some people are saying SC should be with Cindy, because he brings out the goodness in her, but maybe SC can just be her FRIEND. It's obvious SC does not have feelings for Cindy, nor see her in anyway romantic. Look at all the scenes they've done that comes across romantic for her, but for him, they've simply been him doing his job. Even when she got hurt and was at the hospital, SC's mind was only on YJ. I doubt SC would have ran to the hospital if he heard Cindy got hurt.
SC ran for YJ.
The way SC is starting to like YJ shows that his real love is with her, not his "noona". Even when YJ asked him why he liked his noona, he only replied that she's pretty. I think this drama is about SC coming to find himself in this industry and finding real love where he'd least expect it.
I don't know how JM will recover from this or how long he'll act cowardly, but I gotta say, I am concerned and worried that if JM makes his move, then YJ might cave.
Right now, SC has to prove why he's the better one for her. Which is why I love the juxtaposition of the scene where teen JM hugged YJ, and how now it's SC hugging her in the present.
Because JM will always be her best friend and her first love, but SC can easily be her present and her future.
So excited for further episodes!

I LOVE this episode! So many feels, and so many LOL moments that I instant-rewinded ! I love CTH, but KSH really steals ALL the scenes...hahahaha
I realised why this show has pulled me in so deep... The producers are very normal believable characters. Junmo is not a genius PD who always have dramas with high ratings, in fact he is somewhat a struggling PD who can't seem to get things going right for him, despite working so hard. And when Seungchan accuses him of not being in a one-sided love before, somehow I get the feeling that he has been in that all along with Yejin since he was a tyke haha But maybe it was all a problem with timing.
SC and Yejin ship... I can't really see it sailing... She is only treating him like a little brother who is there at the right time for her... No matter how sweet this puppy is, he is also just on another noona crush...because he is new at work, and she was the first one to show him any (gruff) kindness... SC needs time to grow, and know his own heart before he can sail with anyone...
While the sparks are sweet and swoonworthy between Cindy and SC, the problem is, I think we are seeing it as she is seeing it? I would love it if if happened but so far SC is doing sweet things totally with no romance/wooing involved. I think its quite incredible on the writer/PD/actors chemistry involved to ensnare us in a possibility of a Cindy/SC boat, because she is also a very lonely young idol who has been working since 13... and why isn't there ever any mention of family? Cindy makes my heart ache for her. She is a very good representitive of the idols with millions of fans, but are in actuality very lonely souls who are prone to depression...
I do hope for the best for her, at least she can have experience a crush on someone as crush-worthy as KSH.
Seung chan's impressive brain power is totally being wasted to become a makane variety PD. Please, go become a union lawyer or something to fight for better working conditions for entertainment industry. lol
I can't wait for next weekend again. XD

When is he going to start seeing Cindy? They make a much cuter pair to me than him and Ye Jin. I like how she was the one who reassured him on the lift, having rode it many times, when it should be the PD's job. But as we've halfway through this drama and Seung Chan is clearly blinded by Ye Jin, I'm not hopeful he can change in that short of a time.
Two-faced Seung Gi was a hoot. Yoo Jae Suk and Sean being in a Nice Celebrities Club. Joon Mo is like Sung Dong Il of Reply by always predicting everything wrong (Dad: "Won Bin won't ever make it.") Thanks for recapping, javabeans!

Thanks for the recap, JB!
SC continues to be the highlight for me in every ep! I agree this his career has been a combination of talent and luck. I remember when I first stumbled across KSH and decided to backtrack his works, and discoverEd lo and behold that he's gotten a nomination or award for every project. That's rare! He's totally breathing life into SC and I love all his scenes in this ep. Him confronting JM and calling him cowardly for ignoring YJ's feelings! *clap clap* And always being there for YJ since he cares for her. Not to mention, that lift scene with Cindy. He really is someone that is impacting all three of them! Petty jealous SC is hilarious!! I love SC!! I love KSH!! XD
JM, get your act together! Why are you hurting your bestie with all your words and actions?!
YJ, just wanna give you a big hug when I saw you crying. Glad SC was there to comfort you and I liked the similar pose as young YJ and JM in that crying scene.
Cindy is on such dire need of rest. CEO Byun is merciless in that schedule planning. So glad both YJ and SC spoke up for her. And poor manager who got slapped. =(
The 6.8 correct prediction is sooo funny, especially when others started to ask SC for the fortune telling. =P Office Nazi releasing paper at her own will. LOL
Now gotta count the days till Friday again. XD

It will also be more hilarious if Seungchan brought Cindy home for a meal to meet his family because think how scandalized his mum will be! OMO! Is that the girl who danced in her underwear, whom my precious son tied her shoelaces!! And she's here, eating MY food!?!
I REALLY REALLY want to see that HAHAHAH

Haha! Also, I think another reason why BSC and Cindy are meant to be ... Is because of his family. There's a big focus on how his parents think Cindy is scandalous and should never be involved with their son, and I think this is present because it will be all the funnier when BSC/Cindy actually do get together lmao

SC-YJ Eeeeeeepp! "Sunbae, I’m sorry too. I think I’m about to cause an accident" so bold, OMGGGG, I love it!
I now ship them sooooo hard! GHJ has so much chemistry with KSH (who can have chemistry with even the swing he was swinging on lol). CTH is good but his chemistry with GHJ is non existent and makes me yawn... poor Cindy, I feel so bad for her but I think I've chosen my ship!!
As for KSH, there is a good reason why BSC is the most popular character and why most article comments are about how great he is. He's really stealing the show.

THE MOTHERS!~
Joon Mo's mom asking Tak Ye Jin to convince him to go on a blind date again.
Omma, you'll be surprised to know she's living in his house and bwahahaha your son actually likes----loves her.
Seung Chan's mom reacting about Cindy MuBank performance and Seung Chan tying her shoelace. HAHA
Omma, they're closer than you think and wait for your loving son to bring her on your home for dinner sometime.
GUSH THIS MOTHERS! haha. :D

I can't wait! hahahahah SC mom so indignant about her precious son is sooo funny hahaha
I'm sure they will love the 'real' lonely Cindy... but think of Cindy's culture shock of meeting such 'saintly' Christian folk hahahah it really can't be a different family background hahahaha

they should put that on the epilogue! haha. it would also make sense for the series to do a follow up with these things. Why would they make seung chan's 'mom criticize cindy that much and the same with joon mo's mom...clueless about ye jin.

It doesn't make sense to me if they make Joon-mo and Cindy try so hard to open up and want to love wholeheartedly for once in their life, only to let them be alone in the end. There's no meaning whatsoever in that. While if Seung-chan and Cindy end up together, they could bring the best out of each other like no one else ever could. And if Joon-mo and Ye-jin could overcome their misunderstanding, they could enjoy each other's company like they've wished all along.

Somehow I want more interaction between Joon Mo and Cindy. Not as a couple, but more like siblings because it looks like he cares a lot to Cindy.

same here. They're giving me Answer Me 1997 feels, and I honestly feel they have genuine chemistry.
Though I love all the ships on this show, I have a real soft spot for them so I hope they do make it. (I adore Cindy's one-sided crush on our clueless new PD too, but he is so oblivious there's hardly any hope for her)

Waaah I'm getting mixed feelings about this episode. Well, I'm shipping Joonmo and Yejin real hard but Joonmo is just so dumb in this ep. But like everyone said, Joonmo looks humane with all of his insecurities and making mistakes. Now that we know that Seungchan (and even Cindy) characters are growing, I hope we can see that it'll happen to Joonmo's next. I don't know what to change from Yejin because even though her personality is like that, there's nothing wrong yet with that.
I always believe that Seungchan only feels pity towards Yejin because of her unrequited love and he knows how that feels. But watching the end of this episode just changes everything. Now it more seems like Seungchan has real feelings for Yejin, but I think Yejin doesn't see him much more than a caring good friend and hoobae. I hope this fact will make Joonmo gets his act together quickly and be brave to embrace Yejin's love.
Seunggi's cameo is hilarious, but I have to say that it's a waste that they don't use the fact that he's the former member of 1N2D Season 1. I was kinda hoping that he will act in scenes with Joonmo and Seungchan, talking how 1N2D now and then. If it comes that way, I think it doesn't have to be Seunggi as the cameo. But hey, it's Seunggi and I'm totally happy that he's the cameo. I laugh really hard when he takes a photo with that little kid and the kid's face is priceless XD
Can't wait for the next ep! The fact that there's no preview on the next ep makes me wants to meet next Friday soon, even if it means that I'm getting closer to my thesis deadline.
Producer, fighting!

I'm torn too.
I think JM and YJ look good together, but Joon Mo was an idiot this episode and deserves some punishment.
On the other hand, Seung Chan stealing JM and YJ love story is douchebag-level. YJ's story was told to Seung Chan in trust, using it to further his own goal was a jerk move.

I disagree that Seung Chan uses JM and YJ love story for his own purpose . To be fair, it’s BSC who pointed out to JM how much YJ loves him and He shouldn’t pretend not to know Ye-jin’s feelings. While he criticized JM for being a coward, BSC himself didn’t break the truth to YJ, which showed his consideration of not hurting YJ’s feeling. However, to his frustration, JM didn’t take any chance to improve their relationship and YJ eventually found out the truth by herself.
YJ was hurt even more outside the hospital when JM blame her for accident, which led to her crying and BSC hugging and comforting her. At this moment, I don't think BSC can even tell wether his feeling towards YJ is just sympathy or love, but clearly it's not calculated or planned act.
