Lee Yi-kyung in consideration for Answer Me 1988

Oh, I’d be happy if this casting news stuck: Lee Yi-kyung is looking at a possible career-launching role in the cast of Answer Me 1988, though as always, reports are mixed about whether or not it’s a sure thing. Lee has been a really strong supporting actor in everything that I’ve seen him in, and I love that he has a really diverse set of roles on his resume playing all sorts of weirdos and misfits, from scary to zany to hilarious.
The 26-year-old actor debuted in the film White Night and made his television debut in School 2013. He quickly racked up drama titles following School, including Nine, You From Another Star, You’re All Surrounded, and Maids; and he’s currently in the laugh-out-loud tvN comedy Superman Age, which definitely bodes well for his comedic timing and range.
Answer Me 1988 is still being extra cautious and playing everything really close to the vest as far as stories, characters, and especially casting confirmations. All we know for now is that the third installment of the throwback youth-centered franchise will head to 1988 and focus on three neighbor families.
Franchise regulars Lee Il-hwa and Sung Dong-il will reprise their roles as Mom and Dad, and Answer Me 1994′s Kim Sung-kyun returns as a dad this time around. Idol Hyeri (Hyde, Jekyll, Me) is still in the running to play the leading role. It remains to be seen how big a role Lee Yi-kyung is being considered for, though the way producers are being vague, I wouldn’t be shocked if they ran auditions with every actor under the sun right through the summer.
Answer Me 1988 follows Oh My Ghostess this fall on tvN.

me too as long she's not the lead actress...and i like this guy to be the lead...can they find a lead who's really not that much so popular same with Eunji. I mean i'm not anti Hyeri but i prefer those that you don't know much about but when you actually see them in new things you will root for them.
I still have reservations for Hyeri when it comes to acting
but yap i don't want to see Reply 1988 with doubts please...

Ok, he does NOT look 26. I always thought he was around 22-24...
Glad for this news, but I'll be gladder when it's confirmed. :) Can't wait to have him on my screen again! He's played some jerky/sleazy characters for his past roles, so I hope it's a role I can cheer for right off the bat this time. xD

Ooooh I would really like it if this boy got his shot at leading-man stardom at last!
but please, not Hyeri for the lead role PLEASE. The girl simply isn't actress material.
and the Answer Me franchise has a strong enough brand name on its own that they do not need to take any talentless idols, they can literally pick the cream of the crop of actors and acting idols because they are star-makers and they know it.

was he that quirky brother in You Are All Surrounded? Then that was one of my fav characters there. I wished to have him explored more, bc he was so wild.

If his character is 18 years old in 1988, then he still plays the character around 45 years old in 2015.
LOL if viewers think they should have a hot 45-year-old Dad like him.
And, I believe the main heroine should not be an idol with the exception of Seol-hyun from AOA, but too bad she's busy acting the lead role in Orange Marmalade.

He's so busy with Running Man filming and the chinese dating show, he's making a lot of CF for all asia, the Running Man fanmeeting in Hong Kong in july, The Mutant movie promotion will be son too.
Right now its impossible to be in a drama.

I really hope they make this 3rd installment shorter. It should be the same length as Answer me 1997 or even shorter.

I hope he does get cast (and he probably already is, TBH). Being part of this drama will do wonders for his career, just like how it did wonders for all the others in the previous two dramas.

Sadly, I don't think it's gotten much traction outside of Korea because of access/subtitles. I really love it though! I plan to write it up when it wraps in a couple weeks.

Am I the only person who is wishing that Ji Soo (Angry Mum) will get the lead role? That boy's got so much potential inside him, it has to come out!
OT, javabeans, are you thinking of recapping Divorce Lawyer In Love? I think it's a pretty catchy drama.

FINALLY LEE YIKYUNG! I've been waiting for him to snag a leading role and if he does make it into 88, that'd be more than great!
Now I want Lee Jihoon to be cast too so we can witness a School reunion (maybe with Kwak Jungwook as well?)
P.S. I personally don't want Hyeri to end up being the female lead. I love her as a singer but I don't think I'll love her as an actress. Supporting roles are fine, though.

And I just heard that Han Groo has been offered the female lead! She would be so perfect for this. Really hope it sticks.
That and Park Bo-geum is also in talks!

I think he would be a great choice, I really enjoyed him in Nine and YWCFTS.
I'll just echo what everyone has said about Hyeri. Girl's Day is my favorite group and I love Hyeri but not as an actress.
