Vampire kisses and Yeo Jin-gu tears in Orange Marmalade’s first teaser

Ugh, nobody cries like Yeo Jin-gu. I wasn’t anticipating much from KBS’s new supernatural teen drama Orange Marmalade, but then they went ahead and made Yeo Jin-gu cry, and now I’m interested. The show’s first teaser is like a taste of a music video of the angsty romance to come, between human high-schooler Yeo Jin-gu and his vampire sweetheart Seolhyun (of girl group AOA). It’s all heady young love and tentative kisses (and dangerous ones near pulsing veins!), until he’s crying out her name and breaking down in tears.

Yeo Jin-gu narrates: “In this moment, because it’s you who only exists in my memories…” The tone is far more dramatic than KBS’s last Friday night teen drama, High School: Love On, which was light and cute. Orange Marmalade looks like a much heavier exploration of human-vampire angst (not to mention your regular old teen romantic angst), and if the teaser is any indication, Yeo Jin-gu will be playing the hell out of the romantic lead.

Orange Marmalade is a webtoon adaptation about a vampire heroine who transfers to a new high school and falls in love with her classmate. The world is one in which humans and vampires coexist; CN Blue’s Lee Jonghyun (Gentleman’s Dignity) will play a chic vampire who harbors his own painful past, and Song Jong-ho (Mandate of Heaven) will be a vampire teacher who’s caring and gentle.

It’ll be a sweet, pure love story about life and death, humanity, and young love. Already the teaser is tinged with a bittersweet tone that I like, so I’m looking forward to the premiere. I hope for Yeo Jin-gu’s sake that the rest of the cast delivers, because I could really see myself getting swept up in a story like this.

Orange Marmalade airs on Friday nights beginning May 15.

True true. Any teenage theme should sound uninteresting to me, because I will always side with AHJUSSHIS all day anyday. But with Yeo Jin-goo, it's like I'm taken to another dimension with a TEEN? Some popular idols and young actors should take a step back, and learn from him.

Oh goodness am I becoming an ahjumma attracted to a young boy now!

Vampire thingy is not my thing, but because this is Yeo Jin Goo we're talking about, Ive been waiting for this drama to start. And the teaser come out and I got really curious with the stories and decided to read the manga, and man... i love the stories! really cant wait to see my baby jin goo starring this drama

Yes, YJG is still jail bait. *Sigh* There's so much to appreciate about his acting, but I'd feel much better as a fan if he were chronologically-gifted enough to not be an adult already.

I'm looking forward to SJH in a non-villain role. He does them well, but I also loved him as Tae-woong hyung in Answer Me 1997.

can I just add that that isn't a dangerous kiss aiming for the veins- it was more of an embarrassing moment where she was groggy and got attracted by his blood and just leaned in. it piqued the male lead's interest in her, la dee la dee da.

Can K-Dramas stop beating up Yeo Jin Gu's pretty face? I remember the weetle bitty YJG in Iljimae, and I just can't take this abuse. There should be some stipulation in his future contracts. I honestly don't remember any other K-drama child/teen actor who's had his face busted up as much as he has.

Unni is getting very upset. Argh.

It seems like he's a great actor but I just CAN'T watch him in dramas with him having a love line with legal older actresses since he's under age. It'd be ok if he just had handholding or hugs but It's just wrong to me and I personally feel a bit creeped out by it if I see any kissing. Guess I'll have to skip this one as well even though I really wanted to watch it. Sigh.

He's considered 18. He still didn't turn 18 for him to be considered 19. They don't add 2 years to their age, they just add the 9 months they spend in mommy's tummy which rounded up is 1 year.

Thanks for trying but in my mind/culture I count by date of birth and he's still 17 years old which is under aged until he turns 18 in August of this year. So... It still a bit icky to me & it's totally personal preference so I guess I'll just have to miss his awesome acting until his next project/movie/drama. *sad face & cries*

Not all of us are into him because of his looks. At least, I personally don't look at him that way. I mean, I do think he's a good-looking teen who'll definitely grow up to be a good-looking guy but right now I'm more in the role of a protective noona (the same goes for Kim Yoo Jung and Kim So Hyun as well, ever since I saw the three of them in Moon Embracing the Sun). My interest in him is largely because of his acting talent and I am genuinely curious to see how his career turns out. So yeah, no naughty thoughts from me.

oh definitely not for me, I've been seeing him in roles since he was a little boy, so the feeling really is more like a protective noona like Indigo says. I can recognise his talent and chemistry with his female leads but I just can't feel attracted to it myself.

Oh please...ask an average 21+ year old guy if he's never found a 17 year old girl attractive...or got called a "cougar" for being just a few years older than a girl. And that's just in terms of attraction, we're not talking here about any initiation/an adult and a minor being in a relationship.

I was reading the webtoon a bit. I wasn't expecting it to be angsty because the first few chapters seemed a bit light. But maybe I haven't gotten to the center of it all that I'm missong out on the main vibe. The teaser had me all interested. But I do hope it doesn't get top angsty and heavy. I love Yeo Jin-gu, and I trust he'll do well. On the upside, I think Seolhyun is okay for the role of the teen girl vampire because her face has a kind of gentleness to it. But I'm holding judgment until I see her act.

I just hope the romance is more convincing than it was in the webtoon. I felt like the guy came to be in love so suddenly, for no apparent reason, and was then really overly pushy towards this girl who honestly didn't seem to like him at all. I liked the premise but they just seemed so forced as a couple.

I like the webtoon so I'm definitely anticipating this <3

Plus, one does not simply say no to Yeo Jingoo. Boy is a treasure I'd like to keep my eyes on and adore. The angst can be clearly seen and I'm glad for that because one of the reasons I love OM is because it's angsty. And Yeo Jingoo's angst is going to make it thousands times better!

Hopefully Seolhyun delivers because I really want to love this drama. I saw her acting once and she was pretty good, so I hope she can step up her game here otherwise she'll get swamped under YJG's.

Does anybody know if this is going to be like High School love on in the sense that they will only have one episode per week?

If thats the case I probably won't watch because even thought I liked High School Love on, I lost interest along the way because I couldn't stand the fact that there was only one episode per week. Especially since I'm the type of person who likes to binge watch shows or at least watch two episodes per week.
