Hello Monster confirms leads and gets a new title

I Remember You is the new title for the drama formerly known as Hello Monster, which is a change I’m not too excited about, since at least Hello Monster was distinctive. Generic is what I think of when I hear I Remember You, which sounds more like an amnesia melo than an upbeat thriller about detectives. (For instance, I didn’t love the Girl Who Sees Smells title either, but I concede that it’s more memorable than Sensory Couple and therefore understand why the drama switched back to the original name. Is there any hope they’ll do the same for this one?)

In any case, I Remember You has also secured its leads, Jang Nara (Fated To Love You) and Seo In-gook (King’s Face, High School King of Savvy) — both were previously considering, so this is just a confirmation. I was beginning to wonder when the show had trouble nailing down a male lead (after Lee Jin-wook and Lee Sang-yoon were both courted as contenders and ultimately passed), so it’s a relief to know casting is complete.

The drama is about a super-sharp crime profiler (Seo In-gook) who joins a task force alongside with another detective (Jang Nara) who happens to be stalking him, for reasons yet unknown. She reportedly joins the team with ulterior motives, so I’m betting the stalking goes hand in hand with her secret agenda. She’ll stalk, they’ll bicker, they’ll fall in love. Hopefully with a lot of twists (and laughs) along the way.

It’s funny to consider Seo In-gook in the same breath as Lee Jin-wook and Lee Sang-yoon even though he’s certainly graduated to leading man status, because his image is still so young in my mind. I know he’s not actually that young (he’s 28), but after you make your name playing lovable high schoolers, it’s hard to shed that mental image. But I don’t doubt his ability to make the role charismatic and engaging, and I’m happy to see how he and Jang Nara get along in the show. He’s fantastic in funny situations (Savvy really showed his skills off admirably) and she’s great as the straight man, so they ought to be well-matched.

I Remember You is described as a crime-solving thriller mixed with a bright romance, and with the Protect the Boss writer and the Ojakkyo Brothers and God of the Office PD onboard, we can expect some laughs mixed in with the thrills. Really, in this case I would be just fine with more kisses and fewer thrills. The drama follows Who Are You—School 2015 and premieres on June 22.

I have no issues with this pairing, at least on the talent front I think he's solid. And I think 27 going on 28 is old enough to leave the high school roles behind, especially since he'll probably have to head off to military service in the next year or so and needs to establish leading man status before that.

And the age gap isn't that big a deal, they're both playing adults and Jang Nara is only a year older than Lee Hana after all.

I didn't know the age gap in that drama either! But then again, I wasn't a big fan of that couple..and Jang Nara is baby faced, so there's that. I think the problem is in my mind Seo In Gook=high schooler haha...

To be honest, I am so sick of SEG. He did a lot of dramas last year. It is only three months since finished King's face. I think he want fame. JNR also did a lot last year. Korean Viewers will be bored watching them a lot.

First, it's SIG not SEG. Second, did you just reply to your own comment? I think you need some practice booboo. Third, you sound to me like you have watched all his dramas. Otherwise, what's your basis for being sick of him? It does not make sense being sick of someone if you haven't even seen his performances. Fourth, I don't know what kind of actor appeals to you but based on your uneducated comment (including you taking to yourself), you don't now what you are talking about. And trust me, I can say a lot more to bring sense to your brain but on the other hand, it might be too much for you to process.

It's SIG not SEG. Two dramas hardly count as too much, they're talented and generally liked by viewers. And with at least two dramas airing everyday, they wouldn't be noticed that much for people to get "sick" of them.

Exactly! Thanks for saying what I wanted to. If entertainers didn't want fame they'd just be at their local libraries reading to a bunch of 5 yr olds. Working is hardly considered shameless self promotion.

And now we have given this comment more attention than it deserved...

Of course he wants fame he is an actor that is what actors do, when you have opportunities you take them especially him since he is going to go the the military soon. What actors do is they try to establish themselves before they leave

Required fields are marked *

I'm a little baffled by your stance, to be honest. I mean, it's fine not to like him or be bored by him, but to be perturbed because "I think he wants fame"? He's an actor, so I think it stands to reason. And normal, regular, non-actor people work every day, so doesn't it make sense he'd want to work with at least some regularity as well? It doesn't really follow as a rationale.

Hey, I like Seo In Guk and I didnt really watch King` s face coz it was boring and frankly, sageuk doesnt fit him so i`m really hoping this next one would be a good role for SIG since it`s set on the present.
Jang Na Ra is just making up for lost time so let`s just be considerate. Tho Fated to love you with Jang Hyuk would still be the best pairing for her.
Mr.Back was only so-so coz both the story and the pairing was a bit iffy.
We will just have to wait and see how everything works out for this new pairing and hope that thw story is really good. Cant they just be friends? Ok,there I said it... I dont know thus noona romances just dont seem to work for SIG.
What made answer me 1997 really click was the fact that SIG was really smitten with his costar Jung Eun Ji of A-Pink so that somehow added to the whole vibe.

And it's a good tactic as well, otherwise you'd end up typecast which doesn't really serve actors well. Even more so in this case, because if he only played high schoolers, he'd soon be at the end of his career at his age...

0

Required fields are marked *

Because that would be against the all mighty drama God, I guess! Putting aside the fact that this will be the 2nd drama after him being "a high school kid", are you actually referring to his looks or his acting skills? Since your comment is short and firm, I think I'm missing something here...

i hate the pairing too. but I just watched for SIG and thankfully there wasnt much to say of this pairing, the drama -monster-psycho-plot takes over and I think SIG had more chemistry with ParkBoGum LOL. There's more bromance than anything going on with this bad pairing. So if you enjoy good dramas well written and crime but fun enjoyable ones, watch this.

Required fields are marked *

I have no problem with this since I don't think I'll have the time to watch it, but I'm curious abut something. Do these roles have any type of description or do they just go with male and female for description? I've seen so many glaring differences between the actors when it comes to casting some characters not only here, but in other dramas as well that I don't think they know what the character is even about when they start casting.
They just seem to offer it to whoever is not working and fits the gender. They might not be a huge age difference between SIG and the other 2 actors that were previously considered for the part, but their looks and acting styles are so different and one of them even looks like SIG's uncle. I'm not trying to insult any of these actors here, again I don't really care about this particular drama, but the change from one actor to the other is so pronounced that I don't even know how to react.

Hmm, so maybe I'll be more hopeful about the pairing than I initially was when reading the news. I mean, I wouldn't have thought he'd have that much chemistry with Gong Hyo Jin or Lee Hana, but I thought he really worked well with them on-screen. I didn't really like him with the Little Sun in Master's Sun, but maybe I just wasn't fond of that actress.

I'm not a particular fan of Jang Nara, but I hope this pairing works out well. I'm looking forward to the next Seo In Gook drama (that's not a historical)!

Somehow the drama reminds me of the very recent "healer". Because SIG has endorsements with Park Min Young, to me the two dramas sort of mesh together as similar dramas and then this new one becomes less original... maybe that's a factor?

Although I have faith in the whole chemistry thing. I think they'll work. Also, it's high time the guy does a modern drama in full-on conventional leading man status. He's 28 yo after all and he's been in the business for more than half a decade. It's time to shed the high school uniform.

The drama seems very generic. There's nothing that makes it stand out from the description available just yet. The sort of drama you feel like it's been done before.

There's certainly loads of these sort of crime dramas in J-ent, although they tend to not develop the romance side. Here the romance side seems like in every K-drama – a pairing of opposites who bicker but fall in love (when do we not get that? Why don't they switch it, and make it for once a pairing that falls at love at first sight?).

It'll all depend on the details whether this will become interesting or the-same-as-always. In my case, the actors don't pull me in either.

did you watch it? the drama aint generic at all. Its fantastic well written and quite different. Of course, dont expect it to be revolving around the female actress because imo her role didnt add anything to the drama, this was more of a 3 male -leading story and honestly it was enjoyable. Its just very misleading at the beginning except for the fact that it is a story about wether or not you are born as a monster, therefore you will be getting crime thriller suspense dosis instead of cliche overrated love stories. And I just want to say that Choi Woo Young and Park Bo Gum were way more main roles than Jang Nara, like I said, she seemed like just recruited so the drama wouldn't be all male cast.

the story makes up for the fact this pairing was bad from day cast 1, you wont be that bothered because writers kept that aside very well.. SIG plays a character that it's not that into romance material. They just squished in 1 iffy scene in 1 episode,
Actually, this drama is by far the most Bromantic drama I've seen lol. So I dare to say any romance is replaced by quality in story and bromance.
You'll enjoy it. Its one of the best this year.

Afterthought: I didn't finish his King's Face because it was too angsty for my taste but as far as his acting went, he took up the mid thirties age bracket version of the king in a considerable part of that drama and I think he was convincing.

Can't say I looove this pairing just yet, but the casting is interesting and refreshing. I'll have to wait and see how the two leads play off each other to judge.

I love the original title too. But on second thought, could it be that the production team want a title that can appeal to a more general audience?

I'm not too worried about the writer, since her previous works were both quite enjoyable. And she's written several one act dramas for KBS. I highly recommend "Culprit Among Friends," which is quite an entertaining suspense but with a hauntingly melancholic ending.
