Yoochun and Shin Se-kyung’s first shoot for Girl Who Sees Smells

This is just a tiny peek, but cameras are rolling on the set of SBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama Girl Who Sees Smells, formerly known as Sensory Couple. They’ve decided to stick to the title of the original webtoon for the drama, which I guess is more recognizable and less generic-sounding. But it still grosses me out a little, even if it’s more evocative. Production is at last underway, and leads Park Yoochun (Three Days) and Shin Se-kyung (Iron Man) got into character to shoot the drama’s title sequence.
The newest project from the writer of Rooftop Prince is a “mystery suspense romantic comedy,” about a man cut off from his senses and a woman who’s hyper-sensory, and has the particular ability to visualize smells. Yoochun plays a young man who loses his little sister (played by Kim So-hyun) to the Barcode Murderer, and becomes a cop. Does seeing Yoochun as a uniformed officer make anyone else think that he’s slowly being demoted in his fictional cross-drama career as a cop?
Shin Se-kyung has been cast as a young woman who barely escapes an incident involving the Barcode Murders, and as a consequence she loses her memories but gains the ability to see smells. I feel like she got the raw end of that deal. She’ll help Yoochun catch the killer, and they’ll develop a collaborative partnership along the way. More importantly, they’ll help heal each other’s wounds and fall in love.
I can’t glean anything about their chemistry from this set of stills, so I’m eager to catch some teasers to see them in action. I’ll admit to being less than enthused about the casting, but if it’s a rom-com, that could change my mind about a lot. After all, Rooftop Prince was pretty ridiculous in almost every way, but oh so funny. If we’re going to see smells, we might as well go for the big laughs, right?
Girl Who Sees Smells follows Hyde, Jekyll, Me and premieres April 1.

Hmm I don't know how the source material interprets it, but synesthesia isn't really like: I smell poop, I visualize poop.
It's more like certain smells make you see colors or stuff like you're on acid(?)
But yeah, they could deviate from the actual condition and interpret it differently, since this is dramaland. :D I'm also hoping this is a fun drama, if only because I miss Yoochun in something light. There's only so many times you can rewatch/reread recaps of Rooftop Prince and SKKS, right?

Haha~ aside from Yoochun-talk, someone on twitter keeps saying she doesn't get Yoo Ah In's appeal, so I'm always having to describe Crazy Horse and his hiccups. Then Park Min-young being awesome in Healer reminds me of SKKS. Then Song Joongki almost out of army reminds me of Gu Yong-ha...

I took a course about synesthesia in college (I know, liberal-art program) and there are several types of synesthesia. Some people can sense a smell with touch, and some other could see color in music notes.
Visualizing smell isn't among the cases I learned about, but heck, this is a work of fiction. Regardless, synesthesia should be the closest thing to seeing smell. By definition.

I didn't take a whole course, but there was a lesson in our Creative Writing class about it. (Just an elective though, I'm not a CW major)
I forgot why that was even part of the syllabus. Haha. The part where one sense overlaps with another just stayed with me. It must be both awesome and difficult having to deal with all those extra info from your environment.

I am really curious how they will show us the smells. It reminds me the character of Lee Jong suk in I can hear your voice. There was hearing voices of other people's minds now seeing smells. All are ridiculous. But I love it!

Pic 1 - mouth open. Pic 4 - mouth closed. Look for more of this exciting acting throughout the entire drama. Seriously, I really want to give her another chance, I really do....please Se-kyung, give us something this time. You started out ok in IM, but the writing left you with no where to go. Make a difference this time with Yoochun.

This sounds like an older drama called 과거를 묻지 마세요, Don't Ask Me About My Past from 2008. I loved this one! Not sure about this one - the photo stills are meh. Never been impressed with SSK although the supporting cast looks great!

Seeing Yoochun makes my heart flutter, am so excited!
......but Shin SeKyung???... I hope she will do well, been disappointed for so many dramas I tried to watched her. Her acting makes me think, "Is this the same drama last year?". This time, like Park Min Young, I really hope he will fully embrace the character. For this might be the last drama of Yoochun-a before he enlist for military...

I really like Yoochun and So Hyun but Se Kyung... Everytime I see stills of her acting it looks like the same scene but with different clothes... why she has the same expression for every emotion?? People talk about idol actors but shes an actress and she cant really act :S anyways, hope she can do well here since this might be Yoochuns farewell project before enlisting

The boy keeps getting the same roles. When he tries different kind of characters he doesn't look good. So that is why he keeps going to angry, lonely, icy main lead character - always a police officer lol

There are different roles that can help make the actor versatile. Yoochun plays similar roles that doesn't help his acting range. I like him but his acting isn't that great. And I still cringe when I watch him act. He's a great singer tho. I really like him as a singer.
I really wish that he would play a different character in his next drama/movie.

Does this really have to happen in every damn YC-related post? I'm just so sick of this, arghh.
It's okay if you don't like the actor, just drop this one, simple as that. If you like the casts, watch, if you don't like, drop. Don't have to go around belittling others.

yes, he is overrated coz man, 27 awards are still not enuff to prove ur talents Park Yoochun! those including 8 awards from his debut Haemoo, gosh Yoochun u gotta do something! Dong Shik is still not a meaty role to them! err..maybe for the next role, u need to shave your hair ROFL!
But pleaseeee, SSK is lucky enuff by received so much loves & supports from YC fans seriously I was surprised. These all against comments are from KD fans instead which I also sometime expressed my frustration when actors I like didnt get what I want but that doesnt mean I'm a fan of that actor!

@escape You sounds so bitter to me....Yoochun has so far swept all of the spots for best newcomer in his debut movie "Haewoo" in all the popular and authorized film awards in SK...so just an advise for you, degrading him and his acting never works in your favor, it only puts your own character in question.

ok honestly, if these two leads could look any more robotic. Sorry to all the Yoochun fans, but really, I find him just as robotic as Shin Sekyung. This drama is such a turn off because of the lead casting. I don't think I'll be watching this drama...

Not the most imaginative stills for a show about synesthesia. But I suppose boring promos and a good show are better than the other way around. The bait-and-switch hurts less that way.

Not a fan of SSK but I don't dislike her either, and I thought she was okay in IM. Good luck to Yuchun and the entire team, please be good drama.

If I were you, I will not start. Why bother and get yourself all upset. And when you are upset, you poop. And when you poop, you spoil other people's party. But if you've your own hidden agenda, then that's a different story altogether.
There are a gazillion dramas out there with six-pack hotties leading, go watch those and be happy. Life is short.
Point is, do others a favour. Let those who intend to watch, to have a chance to watch in peace. Trust me, they'll thank you for that.

Well, I definitely want to see how they will show her "seeing" smell but SSK though. I just can't watch her...:/ Her and Jin Se Yeon are the ONLY actors I can't stand because of their expressionless acting but yet always landing on the lead role...
