Amen to doing away with it! I hate it even when we are supposedly "gaining" an hour of sleep. Never works out for me. My sleep gets screwed up both ways. I end up sleep deprived no matter what.
The big misconception it that it's for the benefit of the farming. Farmers have pretty much opposed it from the start. Here's the history, rationale, politics, benefits and drawbacks, etc:

The supposed energy savings has been disproved.
Here's more on the countries that use DST:

@JoAnne: oy vey! I don't use Outlook, so I don't know if these would help.
Time zones that do not observe daylight saving time and Outlook
Do I need to have 'Automatically adjust clock for daylight savings changes' selected in Windows?
How to adjust for daylight saving time in Outlook?
You cannot set Outlook to adjust for daylight saving time - a Workaround
Since I don't have Outlook I can't test this. I don't know if the methods spelled out here would rigidly change ALL times zones to DST, or if it allows for the variations in different locales. Might be worth a look.

Happy Friday to all!
Let me say that I was preparing to be somewhat disappointed at the ending of Kill Me, Heal Me that I was not! Yes, the ethical issue of the doctor-patient relationship no-no aside, the show was great and Ji Sung was amazing! I won’t get into details as some have likely not seen the last episode yet but I cried and laughed and cried and laughed and then the last few seconds really put the cherry on top. Thanks to the cast, crew, writer and director for a show that had such great moments and to Ji Sung who nailed his performance throughout. Will miss this one.
Is anyone watching House of Bluebirds or Bluebird’s House? I was able to find the first 3 episodes subbed in English, but the others are lagging behind. I am not sure if it is because KBS is releasing them with a two week delay or if there is little interest so folks are not subbing?
Heart to Heart was cute and the ending was good for those of us who like for relationship threads to be dealt with so we know definitively who ended up with who or not.
Heard it Through the Grapevine and Hogu’s Love are new favorites and I can’t wait for more episodes to come out though Hogu’s self-focused behavior which he thinks is for others is getting a bit much and needs to be dialed back a bit.
I am looking forward to Superdaddy Yeol this weekend. Hopefully that will be subbed and available in my area. Men who are good dads are a weak point for me. *sigh*
Have a wonderful weekend to you and hope that you get to enjoy some spring weather. We are going to hit 50 degrees F here in northern NY so hopefully the 6 feet of snow will melt! :)
Cheers!

okay, I am totaaly satisfied on both KMHM and H2H ending
they consistent on what they showed
KMHM wonderfully save me from some bad end/memory of ending for drama, it is lovely, cheerful and I love oh ri-on
and H2H is lovely (sweet thing after sweet things) lovable character, this week is actually good

Ur totally right!! I loved H2H coz that drama is real and unreal. Loved their honesty, sincerity and stay true to the characters. No one was really changed because of someone, their changes happen gradually whether they are conscious about it or not.
KMHM was daebak!!! Every episode was always a gem, last one made me cry, laugh, and a sweet smile. As someone said with cherry on top that I say "awww". Excellent from every individual involved in this project!! Kudos to Hwang Jung Eum and Ji Sung☺️

ep19- owwww Perry Park! I love him and his saturi. BTW why he was making bomb (out of rice cooker)? Did they explain it?
ep20- I love, loved 'One year later' time jump- Cha Dohyun has worked part-time in Ori sibling's house/SsangRi restaurant. Yes, I believe he is completely healed by being with best-ever family.

could the rice cooker bomb have been like a mix of quiet home life vs the dangerous aspect of his Dad? the time when they lived outside Seungjin group in their own home, also cooking rice, and then him inducing terror... making Joon Youngs´character "explode"?

Hi everyone! So...2 dramas ended this week.
I loved Heart To Heart and followed it through to the end. They didn't post massive twists or anything, which was great tying into their theme and I was by and large happy to see Hongdo and Yisuk finally shed their masks to become better and more confident people. :>
As for Kill Me, Heal Me, I've just watched the last episode and I'll leave it up to the reviewers to talk about it. It was a fun ride while it lasted (now to hope Hyde, Jerkyll and I picks up the pace too!).
Any recommendations for me to watch after that's said and done? I like thrillers ;w;

Hello shrimpy
I like Blood too. And I love the piggy ride and burger session involving the OTPs. There's some recurring themes from Healer:
1. Both OTPs lost their parents/dads. In Blood, both parents died from suspicious circumstances-murders
2. Antagonists (Elder and Ji Jin Hee's character) felt they are "saving" the world despite their nefarious deeds. Of course, in Blood, JJH played his character so compellingly that I just wanna watch him more and more.
3. As of now the male characters adopted a different identity but in Blood, I wonder how AJH and GHS are gonna move forward. In his current condition, it would be impossible for a vampire to form a relationship with a human.
4. The overall plot seems to involve something larger than their own lives. Scientific discovery, medical innovations, humanity vs superpower qualities, etc
5. AJH has a tech savvy sidekick (sorry two) just like SJH having ahjumma...
Btw, ga yeon character is sweet looking but I don't see her role here... Her late mother story seems a bit suspicious - as if she is wringing pity out of everyone - so she could be JJH's bait to entrap AJH into making more vampire babies.

I'm 50/50 on her being a spy from the beginning. PJS could have just as easily not picked her. The doctor who kept trying to take Rita out did question (Manager) Doctor Woo's background. Like Woo might have faked parts of his resume. Did Ga-yeonget caught by Director Lee doing the same? As for making vampire babies, based on what we know right now, PJS body temperature shouldn't be even a degree or 2 higher than 25C. "Natural methods" will be "bad for his health," paraphrasing him ep.1 when he met PervBot.
I'm wondering whether a long-lost female relative of PJS will appear. Statistically, it's more likely for him to have other relatives than not.
As for the 15-year old PJS, it suddenly occurred to me that a lot of the angst, anger and violent feelings that he had might be puberty.
Lastly, why not animal blood? Normal people consume it when they eat meat. There is blood pudding. And I remember a living turtle had its head chopped of, blood collected and mixed with "medicinal" ingredients, then drank by people.

Bluebird's House is slow because DarkSmurf is the only place subbing it. I was going to start watching it but when I realized the subbing situation, I decided against it because DarkSmurf subs can be slow and kind of on-again/off-again. (Not a criticism, as I've done subbing there myself; just an acknowledgement of the reality.) I'm planning to wait until the series and subs are complete and then marathon it.

I'm not a happy camper with Hogu's Love this week, which is the only k-drama I'm currently watching and was loving up to now. But these last two episodes were completely driven by misunderstandings (which, even when clarified, were insisted on) and the adoption was portrayed in a manner that really, really frustrated me. I'm mad at the coach (not-going-to-forgive-you kind of mad) and I'm mad that Ho-gu, the coach and Kang-chal let that couple walk out of the apartment after the fighting they did about the baby in front of them. It was just so wrong. Was this an adoption that was done according to official procedures in Korea? Or one that was done below the table? Because it sure looked like the latter... and it wasn't funny.
I did try Bluebird's House (weekend drama), which is as terrible as weekend dramas tend to be (and I'm sad that our City Hunter cop only gets lead roles in dramas of this sort, when he deserves so much better).
On the j-drama front, Date continues to be every kind of awesome, Gakkou no Kaidan is wonderful too and everything else has not been subbed. (Dropped Second Love though.)
Started watching an oldie though, Suika (2003). Four episodes in, this is the sort of drama I wish we'd get more often. Probably one of those underrated, no-one-has-watched-this dramas that is worth every minute of its time.

Alua,
Ditto on Hogu's love for the same reasons. Likely an under-the-table adoption as she is a celebrity of sorts, I guess. I'll still watch but I hope that this piece gets resolved quickly and we can step away from it.
Agree that I would have liked a better lead role for our City Hunter lawyer, but I'll hang in there through the typical weekend show drama that you know is on the way. I have a feeling I'll need to take it in doses.
Date is wonderful and I appreciate that you suggested it a few weeks back.

I'll watch the next two episodes of Hogu's Love, but if I feel as disenchanted by them as did with these two I'll drop the drama and then maybe only watch the final episode.
Bluebird's House... I might skip-watch bits, I'm not too sure. I like the lead and his sister (and their sweet relationship) but everyone else I can't stand already. And I fear the makjang that's coming our way.

I echo the same disenchantment, and almost had to force myself to finish the latest episodes - mainly because I feel like we're going in circles without any real purpose. We spent almost 2 episodes on the lawyer and his whole misunderstanding between Ho-gu's "kiss" and the clover thing...its like, really?
While I LOVE the character individually, the story and pacing is totally losing me

Yeah, I enjoy most of the characters but am struggling with the direction of the story/pacing.
I like Hogu (although not for some parts in these two last episodes), Hogu's parents, Hogu's workmates – and the dynamics between them. I liked Ho-kyung a lot in the beginning because she had spunk and of the way she fits into her family, but I'm not liking her as the moping-over-the-guy-that-rejected-me girl. Do-hee... I feel like she's not really being fleshed out much these past few episodes (I want more of her backstory to understand her giving way the child better rather than having her sit in sponsorship meetings and making it all about a petty competition with ponytail girl). Kang-chul I just can't handle with his lack of humanness in that one trial, the gay twist and the fact that he feels jealousy over a sobbing person being consoled by someone.

Ho-gu wasn't in the apartment when the couple left, he was sent on an errand by the coach. The coach probably purposely sent Ho-gu out of the house so the couple could make their get away. As far as the adoption, it don't think there was any intent to make it funny. The coach is a bit of sleaze bag, imho.

March 13, 2015 at 7:18 AM
The coach purposefully sent both Do-hee and Ho-gu out, no doubt. I'm still mad at all three of them (coach, Kang-chul and Ho-gu) because that fight was HUGE RED FLAGS and they should have stepped in right then and there and have insisted that the adoption be put on hold (at least).
No, I don't think they were trying to make the scene of the adoption funny but the way they are depicting it in this drama does a huge disservice to adoption. It's a serious topic and not one that should be used so irresponsibly for the sake of fabricating conflict in a drama. It deserves to be handed more sensitively than it has been here. Not that dramas ever deal particularly well with adoption, but this is one of the worst cases I've seen. Because if it is indeed a below-the-table adoption I very much the drama is going to pick up on that. It'll just reserve the adoption and move on with the story.
(You can say I am taking things to seriously – which I tend to – but it's just crossing a line for me that I'm not okay with.)

No, I don't think the show is trying to make a social commentary at all (it hasn't even clarified whether this is an adoption done through official channels or under the table). It's just using adoption and creating conflicts for the sake of driving the plot along. Same for the gay character.

Hi all:
I can sincerely say that all the dramas I'm watching are perfect..for the most part....although, truth to tell, they can also be harrowing.
Unkind Women -- oh heavnes! the mining of shame, resilience, trauma, woundedness. A hard watch but am hooked. And the love relationships are so realistic. True, there is way too much coincidence...but that's kdrama.
Heart Twnkle Twinkle -- oh lands! The ish has hit the fan. Am so stressing about middle chaebol sister. She is just so intrusive and bully. Bad enough I'm worried about sacrificial noble sister, now I have to worry about goodie nobel Mart heir being trapped in a relationship with Miss
Spoiled. Maybe my fears are groundless but...
Grapevine -- The dark humor vibe has arrived. Oh my lord! The head-patting! Love this drama. Reminds me of Secret Love Affair. Very classy drama.
Shine or Cray Cray -- This is my guilty pleasure. Totally predictable, totally fairytale. But I'm hooked. Am not a lover of hero's "laugh" but Honey Lee is soooooo good! And so are heroine and second lead tragic prince. Heck all the gravitas in this story comes from royal siblings...although heroine does have glimpse of regalness every once in a while. And who knew we would have a brother/sister Balhae reunion?
That's all I'm watching right now...i think.
Have a great weekend, all!

I'm watching this too. And I loved the his unbedded wife's revelation to him about his childhood vs. everyone else's. (Was that spoiler hidden well enough for all the spoiler checkers?)
I liked that we got some revelations before the second to last episode. (I dislike it when a drama saves ALL the answers til the end.)

Wow! Finally on the OT at the beginning of rhe day, rather than the end!
I too was really pleased with the way KMHM finiahed up. It was such a fun drama with solid writing and acting the whole way. Hope to see more from this writer. And thanks to Ji Sung!
I'm also finally coming down the homestretch with Punch. So, so good! It may be hard to find dramas as good as these. JB seems to like Persevere GHR so I may try that next.
And Sweden Laundry is still mildly amusing, though I'm not really big on the idol actor.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Have a great week!

"Punch" was definitely one of the best dramas of the year and one of the best Kdramas I've watched so far.
Loved the ending of KMHM. It's such a relief to see a drama which started well to end satisfactorily too. I still remember the traumatic experience of some the dramas which were great at the beginning to go horribly wrong with their endings. Glad to see both Punch and KMHM break this trend with neat and great ending.

Still dealing with a bizarre, intermittent internet connection. ....... It's on and then suddenly it's off, then it's limited, then it's off again. ....... This has been going on for a week and no one knows what's going on. ....... Any Beanies with Time Warner going through this??
Watched this week:
Punch - I just watched episode 18 two nights ago. ....... Oh. My. Gosh. ....... Just when I thought it couldn't get any better. It did. ..... This is quite a rare occurrence, with only one episode left.
Kill Me, Heal Me - I'm still in the first episodes, so still figuring out who's who. Liking it so far.
That's about it for now. ....... Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

Morning!!
My eyes are puffy from all the tears from last night's episode of heal me kill me! I'm sad this show is over but I'm happy I got to watch it.
My fave I think is Rijin. I love that she truly loved all of Do Hyun. Her love for all the personalities was so moving. I guess that's all I'll say for now because anything else will be spoiling.
I just realized that kmhm is the only kdrama I'm watching!! I got a new job (yay) so I haven't had much time. I was watching Hogu and grapevine but wasn't immediately taken by them so maybe I will try them this weekend.
As per the recommendation of a few on this thread. I started watching Date. I'm still not feeling the main guy but the story is interesting.
I also started watching Goukou no Kaiden (sp?). It's pretty formulaic but I like it. I think it really shows how fickle people can be. They are high schoolers though so... I've reached the episode where the school finds out she has a speech writer. I'm so nervous about the angst and betrayal that's coming lol.
Other than that, loving running man and superman returns. SR always makes me happy. Those babies are seriously the best!
Lastly, anyone watching the American mini series the slap? I'm borderline obsessed

Gakkou no Kaidan is formulaic and also exaggerated, but the point that it is making is very valid. And the casting (for the two leads) is just perfect.

Yes, yes, yes! These two have to do more dramas together as the OTP! They are just that GOOD together.
I said at the begining of KMHM, don't write off Hwang Jung Eum because Ri Jin was so screechy in the beginning. Hopefully anyone who was turned off by her character in the beginning ended up falling in love with her as the drama continued.
So, props to Ji Sung for mastering all the personalities that were facets of Du Hun, making them each distinctive and unique. And props to Hwang Jung Eum for giving us a very different character than her one in Secret, but still a having that great chemistry with Ji Sung's character(s).

Watching: K dramas:

Shine Or Go Crazy: Jang Hyuk & Oh Yeon-Seo, yay !
Heard It Through the Grapevine: Lee Joon & Ko Ah-Sung. I like Seo Bom's family. In-Sang's family, pfft. Especially his mother.
Unkind Women: I like Chae Shi-Ra as Kim Hyun-Sook.
Behind and will probably drop KMHM & Heart To Heart.

J Drama: Kageri Yuki Natsu Gripping. Can't wait until the next episode. Only 1 episode a week. :(

20 years ago a baby is kidnapped from a hospital. The kidnappers ask the hospital for the ransom. A sting is set up the kidnappers die and the money is recovered, the baby however is not found . In the present day the daughter of the kidnappers is going to accept a job at a newspaper. A tabloid paper exposes this tidbit to harm the paper that will be hiring the girl. A veteran newspaper reporter who was demoted previously is secretly assigned to reopen an investigation to in to "what really happened". On closer investigation there appears to be holes in the "official" story. Fraud? Collusion ? Between whom? Crooked cops? Hospital administration? Did another reporter aid in the coverup? The kidnappers were they the actual kidnappers or part of the scheme? Really well done. Might sound a little crazy but the story just flows. You know someone was involved in covering up but why and what happened to the kidnapped baby?

I am enjoying Maids so much. As a big fan of classic old movies of this genre, it has a real throw-back, swashbuckling, intensely romantic quality to it which is very appealing to me. It's not, so far at least, getting bogged down in the incomprehensible political stuff and it has some good meaty business for the women involved. Usually they are just left to sit at home if we see them at all. And the servants' hall is opened up exposing all the manoeuvring and plotting going on below stairs. The slaves are real people with lives outside their servitude instead of just the usual props. Great show!

It might have something to do with the fact that I missed a few episodes (my watching was sporadic between episodes 6-10) so I might like them better if I catch up on my episodes...? I'm sure it's not your missing out the eps, it is the couple itself. I still love the show, but I don't buy the couple at all. Oh-Face is unable to express any feelings, but I also don't feel In Yub's emotions. They are both soooo bland together. Yet she was different with Eun Gi.
We are supposed to feel her pull towards Moo Myung although he is her enemy... but zilch.
The most interesting part now is how Eun Gi is changing.
I developed a severe second lead syndrom. *sigh*

Happy weekend, beanies! I plan to read and play video games (specially, Elizabeth Bear's novel "Karen Memory" & "Dragonage Inquisition")
What I'm Watching:
Blood: Two entire episodes where Kwon Hyun Sang doesn't have any lines whatsoever. In fact, he didn't appear in the first of this week's episodes. Grr.
BUT - the Powers That Be took pity on me and I found out there's a movie called Bitch  Asshole, in which he plays a romantic lead. The poster was very sexy-looking, so I'm hoping for many steamy bed scenes.
Which brings me to my next thing I'm watching, Bitch  Asshole. It's about a small-time criminal who falls in love w/a prostitute. I'm watching it on youtube, without subs, but Kwon Hyun Sang is heart-stoppingly cute in it, so...following the plot is overrated.
Hyde, Jekyll, and Me: Ok, I haven't finished this week's episodes, because I just got so frustrated that nobody was calling BS on Dr. Yoon's pity party. I guess I'll finish it up today.
I Really, Really Like You: Wow, Lee Min Ki's character in this is really a douchebag. Can't wait to see him get his comeuppance.
Kdrama Moments:
1. Patron comes in to ask for more "just like" The King: 2 Hearts. I gave her Marriage, not Dating & told her this one was happier.
2. My daughter's classmate (from Seoul, visiting US relatives this semester) came over to spend the night. The first thing she did was to make a beeline for our fridge to get banana milk. ::laugh:: Apparently, her American relatives do not understand the wonder of banana milk.
3. One of the elementary school teachers came up to ask me if I'd seen "Gu Family Book", and could I recommend anything with either of those actors (Choi Jin Hyuk & Lee Seung Gi), especially "the one with the sweet smile". Awww.

This post dedicated to Kill Me Heal Me. Not perhaps without imperfections, but a drama that gets stored in the back of my memory right next to stuff like Back To The Future, MacGyver, Batman, yes, even Edward Scissorhands, right up to that level of childhood icons. The ones you can quote in your sleep and that have shaped your mannerisms and sense of humor.
THERE MIGHT BE SPOILERS HERE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I know that we cannot be so greedy. But a Yo Na prequel? First appearance, something? Or Making of, 2 episodes?
The actors posted messages on Facebook, thanking the fans for all the love. I would thank all the actors, director, writer, make-up artists and stylists who made the transformations so awesome, the dog & the red Mustang. And the bear. And the hair pin. Fans who lined the streets when Yo Na ran. um...who else to thank? MISS HUSKY! whoever made all the fake blood....maybe not so much.

Hello! I'm finally feeling good enough to think about starting another cartoon serialized drama parody. Last week was SUCH a better week than the one before it. (It must have something to do with all the positive well wishes and ninja cancer fighters you beanies sent over here last week.)
I'm thinking about a City Hunter spoof--or maybe a "my brother is a flower boy" continuation of the flower B series.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm clueless at the moment as to what I could suggest as a drama parody. Gotta say though, "my brother is a flower boy" sounds hilarious.
I do want to say, however, that I'm happy to know you've been feeling better. ☺

i popped in to see whether anyone was enjoying unkind women as much as i am. kim hye-ja in particular is simply just AMAZING. she does dry sarcasm so well and so hilariously it's like an art. this week's episode 5 had me laughing so hard i was figuratively splitting my sides. such real cracking up moments are becoming rarer and rarer for this jaded drama fan. i actually even paused the episode midway through to look up the writer.
didn't pick it up till last week (in its second week of airing) and so had four whole episodes to enjoy all at once. to be honest, i was simply very bored and wanting something new to watch. i usually make it a point to catch a whiff of everything new that airs (except dailies) before deciding to "keep or toss." but i'd somehow missed this one the week before.
seriously wasn't expecting this to be any good at all (i didn't really know who was starring besides lee hana, whom i've never particularly cared for), so i'm just super tickled that it's turned out to be the complete exact opposite. i LOVE it when a drama completely surprises me like unkind women did, because it happens so rarely. last time it happened, that show was god's gift.
i'm even tolerating lee hana pretty well. this isn't the typical series where the main story is centered on the younger cast and their love lines. there's a wonderful story balance and it's really about the four women (kim hye-ja, do ji-won, chae shi-ra, lee hana) who make up a family. there are other fantastic supporting characters as well, and their stories. i can't praise this drama enough, even though there's only been six episodes. i can only hope really hard that this keeps up!!

Raising hands! I am totally loving this drama..and the total ignorance of who is going to end up with whom. Am waiting for Evil Teacher to get her comeuppance and learn about herself. She is right now so self-righteous and so thick-headed about her rightness and the goodness of her principles that she is a hard shell to crack. I just do not want us to show how horrible wounded she was back in the day in order to force us to accept her redemption arc. When the guy who had dated teacher told Hyeon Sook that Evil Teacher had a bad time back then I was like...nooooooooooooooooooooo. Do not set us up to forgive this woman!

i would definitely recommend giving it a go, despite the somewhat dry title. if you aren't a native korean speaker, i hope there are some clever subtitles available. the show is very well written so far (i think) and there have been a number of sharp, witty hilarious moments.
for me, the charm of this show lies within the older cast—kim hye-ja, lee soon-jae, jang mi-hee, do ji-won, etc.) kim hye-ja is the one really anchoring the show for me personally. i don't think this show would be half so good without her.

none of these were particular standouts for me in my memory, or i didn't watch them. i think i liked the woman who still wants to marry while it lasted, but that's about it :)

Happy Friday the 13th^^
I'm in a bit of a foul mood bc I got an e-mail today telling me the I'm placed 76-80 on the list for the language assistance program and there will be only 30-60 spots T_T I really hope that many of the one's placed higher than me drop out bc I NEED to go to England for a year! I'm gonna cry if I can't go!
In the drama world:
Heart To Heart: Disappointed especially with the last 5 eps! Up to 11 all was fine but then they dropped that childhood connection and it just left a bitter taste. The only thing I liked in these eps were the OTP bc they were cute and Se Ro because she rocks!
Kill Me Heal Me: Something was missing from that finale but damn if I didn't get way too emotional when the personalities said their goodbyes^^ Also that goodbye message of Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum was adorable :)
Heard It Through The Grapevine: LOVE! UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! The black comedy element is done so very well and I crack up so much. Can't wait for the next eps.
Ho Goo: They better get that baby back from those shady as hell adoptive parents. Is all I'm saying!
Goo Hae Ra: Still enjoying it immensly especially Henry because the guy is a hoot^^
Unkind Women: Also enjoying this very much! Looking forward to watching ep 6
Looking forward to Angry Mom and Superdaddy Yeol (which got licensed on viki *YAY*) :)

The need is more meant in a "I really, really want to go amd this programme is the only (at least for now + easiest) way for me. I'll be a teacher (well hopefully since getting a job won't be easy in Austria either) in September and should I be lucky to get a teaching position I most likely won't go to England after a year. (Since I'd definitely try again) We have a waiting list and once you don't take an offer or decide to do something else your far in the back again. So once you have a sure job at a school you stay!
I'm hopeful though bc for 2014/15 they were looking for ppl even in October so I might still have a chance.

I am in my mid-50s and i cannot tell you of the countless times I have squeaked through cut-offs. The earliest in my memory was when my mother squeaked me through grade 1 without passing preparatory school as she inquired on prep school and was told there was assessment for grade1 that day itself, so why don't i try it. The most recent one was being number 17 in a free creative writing class that will take 10. Classes start Saturday and i got a text/sms friday at 4 pm that i got in and confirm ASAP. Luckily i checked private emails before closing office PC. I can imagine the 7 that got waylaid to make way for me. So there, if it is for you, you'll get in. Otherwise, expand your options, look for other courses. Good luck Zakin89.

And the best acting award this week goes to .... the snake in Date! Fashion accessory award - a tie between Yoo Na and the snake! (Both wear hair bows equally well.)
mild spoilers for HMKM: At first, I wasn't sure if the ending of KMHM set well with me, but it only took a while for me to feel satisfied. There was a familiarity in the parting of the personalities we had come to love, like saying goodbye to a time in one's own life that hung on too long and became a debilitation rather than a needed friend. The best part of X was that he was not a debilitating personality but the final link to living freely.
Heard it Through the Grapevine: My heart really goes out to Bom who is in a lose-lose situation. In her current situation she loses her family and herself, but there is also no reality in them leaving the coffin house. Last week my comment was that no matter what, In Sang's parents know that if they bide their time, they will steer everything their way. I just hope that In Sang's courage is enough to find the crack in his parents' armour. I can't trust In Sang's parents' love for the baby even if it's real because they will turn it into their advantage over genuine love. It reminds me of the parents in Secret Garden - it was a compromised relationship even to the end.
Anyone watching Blood? It's my first drama recap attempt at http://www.cimiart.wordpress.com. Comments welcome!

Exactly! The minute they process the idea that maybe they like the baby and want it to be part of their family, they start wanting to erase all traces of Bom's influence off it and make it a baby of only "their" family, so to speak. And with the way things were set up (only scheduled visits for feeding, Bom hardly allowed to go to the baby), they'd have ended up turning Bom into a stranger to her own child.

Hello fellow KD-Obsessed,
I bought daffodils this week to set on the kitchen counter. They smell so good! Highly recommend to those of you who are sick of the snow. (And also a weekend trip to California, where the weather is consistently gorgeous).
Watched:
Healer--Because so many were raving about how much they missed it. Well, I did finish it, but it's not on my favorites list. I think people were watching it for the skinship, rather than the story. The story was actually predictable and somewhat boring by the end. The skinship was extreme. At times I felt uncomfortable with how intimate it felt. Anyone else feel like that at times? So kudos, I guess, to the director, for knowing how to set up skinship scenes. I read in an article that Ji Chang-wook felt really nervous in every kissing scene--that it was hard work to make it seem like he was kissing his girlfriend when his partner was only acting.
Kill Me, Heal Me--Loved the end. Don't want to spoil it for people, but that was a good show. Thank you to all involved.
Heart to Heart--Watched the last episode twice. So satisfying. I loved all the forgiveness--everywhere. Besides the OTP, I was happy to watch Se-ro and Doo-Soo finally get together. Anyone else want a series just with them? I wonder how she will do cooking for the big Lee clan at grandpa's memorial.
Hyde, Jekyll, Me--Okay, I admit it, I like this one. My favorite character is Secretary Kwon. He's so worried about the Director, like he's his father. I'm starting to feel sorry for Robin. Everyone is against him. ;-(
Don't know what to watch now. Maybe a break is in order so I can appreciate the next series. Or maybe Unkind Woman because watching something with women would be welcome.

Please drama gods, can you give us a third Ji Sung x Hwang Jung Eum pairing sometime? I'm not ready to let go of my Cha-goon yet!
Heard It Through the Grapevine: this is pure GOLD. It is every bit the black comedy it promised to be at the start, and I love that you can feel the writer laughing at almost everyone in it - but most of all In-sang's stuck-up parents. I'm loving the entire cast too. Yoo Joong-sang and Yoo Ho-jung are especially fantastic because they keep you feeling sorry for them even when they are such assholes, and I love that Lee Joon isn't afraid to look silly because of In-sang's extreme earnestness. I feel like the drama's grounding character is Bom, and Go Ah-sung plays that sense of being the only normal person in this collection of absurd people, really well. (her family too, but they're outside the house)
The scene with In-sang's dad cooing over the baby but then unable to deal with the idea that they don't pee and poo on schedule, I was in actual stitches for that one.
Upcoming drama castings: I still have my fingers crossed Kim Woo-bin will confirm for the Hong sisters drama soon, word among some fans is that Kang Sora has pretty much confirmed. And Han Groo for Scholar Who Walks The Night!

Sometimes KDramas make us mad. Unlike most other things I watch, KDramas elicit an emotional response.
Here comes Hogu's Love rant.
Hogu's Love is a like and frustration for me.
I am frustrated that Hogu thinks he has the right to tell the mother she can not let her child be adopted. Adoption is not a terrible thing. Often, it is giving a baby two parents who are financially and emotionally ready to care for the child, which is better than a single mother who already dumps her baby on others (anybody handy) and has her career as top priority with no family support.
I can feel the story is headed in the direction of marriage for the sake of making a home for the child. Let me tell you, Hogu seems hardly able to care for himself, let alone take on the role of Dad. Which means his parents will end up taking on the burden. Too many grandparents raise babies. It is not something that should be thrust on them.
Meanwhile, we don't address the emotionally shut off mother. She may be defensive, but she is also self absorbed and selfish. She wants to win the gold. This is what she is passionate about. She is casually cruel to others around her. Not my image of a good mother.
Then there is the lawyer. That whole is-he-gay storyline really rubs me wrong. If he is, then his affection for Hogu all these years and pain at seeing Hogu in love with another is a terribly painful one-sided love. If he is merely misled, then the lawyer has still missed out on emotional connections for most of his life. The girl who knowingly caused this is now scheming to "win" the man she apparently has been carrying a torch for. Yet I feel no sympathy for her. She is brutish, selflish, and has hurt every man she has dated. She has perfected the act of looking beautiful, while failing to be authentic.
My sympathies are for all the people who dated the lawyer and Hogu's sister. Hogu's sister seems like a tramp to me. The lawyer seems more honest for expressing his disinterest in the women up front, after his parents force him into dates.

I also think little of parents who encourage their son to have overnight female guest. Would they do the same for their daughter? Maybe they do. Certainly, they do not seem to worry about the daughter carrying around condoms in her purse when she has no steady boyfriend.
I know, I am old and out of touch. People have sex. Many do not have committed relationships. People have children out of wedlock. The problem is, I don't want to watch KDramas where people are being so irresponsible and selfish.
There there is Hogu, who is sweet, and his friendships, which are also adorable, and a loving family. Those elements save me from the selfish characters.
My favorite character is the lawyer. I somewhat suspect that the subtitles are not completely conveying the wiggle room for vague Korean that is spoken. Did the lawyer say "I don't use condoms" because he is a virgin who has never had sex? Did the lawyer say he wouldn't take responsibility for the child, because he is not the biological father, so why the heck should he? Do Hee might just have tried to blame the lawyer because of some situation that resulted in her turning to have sex with someone else because she had thrown her self at him and been rejected. Let me tell you, if you have sex, I believe YOU are responsible for the baby. Not anyone else, YOU.
So my sympathies are all with the lawyer, who has been lied to and manipulated. Maybe he pushes people away, but that is better in my mind than slutty girls who date men and have sex but don't love them. My sympathy is also with Hogu, who seems the most pure hearted of the bunch. Yet Hogu doesn't get a free pass from me for his interference. Hogu is pretending friendship when what he really wants is Do Hee's love. It is a bit manipulative. It is what makes him think it is OK to tell Do Hee she can't let her child be adopted, when Do Hee clearly isn't suited to care for a child.
The girl knew she was pregnant for 9 months, but didn't even have a place to stay or baby diapers prepared. She is a horrible mother. I want the child to be saved from Do Hee. I would call child services on such a bad mother.

I'm sorry but "slutty girls who date men and have sex but don’t love them" - would you call a guy who does the same thing a slut. Besides as long as both parties consented to the act, people both men and women have the freedom to express their sexuality and yes there may or may not be consequences to it. You don't have to agree with their choices but what gives you the right to be judgemental about them?

Could everyone be happy with the term "player" which is a word to describe a person who just uses other people for sex?
I think it is common knowledge that for hundreds of years this type of person has caused chaos, destroyed families, and caused permanent emotional damage to other people.
I hate to think that these sorry low lifes would also even have beanies fuss with each other.

As much as Hogu's Love frustrated me this week, these things I have no issues with at all. And, unlike you, I don't really have any sympathy for Kang-chul because he's just too deluded and heartless for me. Don't care the Ho-kyung is dating & having sex, but not having any serious relationship.
As for what happened between Do-hee and Kang-chul – I think writers are messing with us here. I don't feel Do-hee is blaming Kang-chul, it's probably something tiny and totally irrelevant that connects Do-hee/Kang-chul (the ambiguous "thing" conversation), but it's being blown out of proportion for the sake of creating the confusion about who the father is. I.e. let's fabricate a conflict.
I think Do-hee's plan was to stay in the motel and go through the adoption within a week, but obviously things didn't go as quickly as she thought and she had no backup plan for being sniffed out by the reporters. She's incapable, but it makes sense she is incapable because she has no family support and didn't (and doesn't) intend to be a mother either. She was bound to make mistakes, I'm not going to judge for her that.
Which reminds me of another thing that really, majorly annoyed me in episode 10 – if a reporter asks me what the name of my FRIEND's baby is, I'm going to tell him to f* mind his own business.

Kill me heal me ended for real?? Know where I'll get my dose of ORO and AYN ?!?! Well I can just rewatch thier scenes agian and again and again and just laugh lile crazy ?
Ji Sung is the best thing that happened in my Kdrama's watching this year , he made me root for all the 7 alters , They felt like human not just an alter ego . Yes it might not be the best drama ever but because of the earnestness and sincerity of all actors and KMHM crew it made the watching experince very nice and I will really miss this drama a lot
Hogoo's love: I'm way too invested with the interactions between Hogoo and Kang Chul . Seluong's just nailed his rule and made the agnorant KC likable to watch.
again how many is this drama? It's already 10 episodes and the plot just moves slowly or am I the only one feeling this way!
Well I have nothing else to add .I can't start watching another drama as it's my last semester in university ( though I'm tempted to watch Unkind women)
wish you all a Happy weekend with family and loved once (∩_∩)

Unkind Women- I love it in fact I think it's my favorite of the dramas I'm watching right now. I believe a lot of my love is placed on the shoulders of Chae Si-ra as her Kim Hyun-sook is both my favorite character and the most frustrating one, so far at least. Her tendency to try to live through Ma-ri is rage inducing to me I also wish she'd stop pushing her husband away, maybe I'm misreading him but I don't think he wants to leave. As for the men around Ma-ri I despite the fact I don't have an opinion one way or the other on Song Jae-rim I find I have to root for his Lee Roo-oh because Lee Doo-jin's step mother is teacher Na Hyun-ae. I don't think I've ever hated a fictional character as much as I hate Na Hyun-ae. I don't think I've ever had so much to say about one drama but I'll stop here,
Ho-gu's Love- An odd drama for me as I love it and hate it at the same time,

Not watching Unkind Women (yet!), but someone mentioned cats!
I can relate - my cat doesn't do the normal lap curl - he sprawls and pillows his head on one arm (with one tooth digging in), while his butt is supported on the other arm. Not particularly conducive to long comments, since his butt starts sliding off when I start typing!

Happy Friday!
I don't usually post here but thought I would today - looking to see what others are watching since I'm pretty bored with everything in dramaland these days.
KMHM - ending was satisfying and I'll definitely miss Ji Sung's 7 personalities and all, he was just SO GOOD.
Heart to Heart - I loved this drama, I know it was less spice and drama than others (though that horrible family deserves worst kdrama family of the year) but in the end, I was so happy for the OTP!
Maids - my favorite current drama!! The once noble daughter turns maid and changes the dynamics in the maid quarters - she fights for them and learns what life is from there side. The drama is perfect and has moved along so nicely.
Hyde, Jykell and Me - I waited till now to watch the first episode, having read a few of the comments of some episodes- I wanted to watch it finishing KMHM due to the similarites but MY GOD the first episode was just.....so bad. Ugh, I wanted to like it cause I mean, its Hyun Binnie!! But once the CGI gorilla came into play, I was pretty much done lol
I'm rewatching Autumn's Concerto - it's taiwanese for anyone who is interested - this is my 3rd time watching it again and my god, I fall in love with it each time. Vaness and Ady An's chemistry always makes me fan myself and of course Xioa Le- cutest kid ever. I love the background score of this drama, just such a beautiful show.

I really like Maids as well. Some viewers complain that the flow of the drama is not that smooth because they cut the eps from 24 to 20 but I find it is still good. I like the villains( because they are bad) as well as good guys. I guess when we fall from grace, we finally find our true colours.

Finally had a chance to watch kdramas:
Blood: Pacing and acting is not good. It could have been better if casted well.
KMHM: The beginning was very unwatchable with the screaming and overacting. Middle was better. Then, it lost itself in the second half with so many unnecessary flashbacks and noble idiocy. The ending felt rushed and plot holes in the story.
Unkind Women: Solid so far. Liking all the women.
Healer: A lot of hype around this show, and after watching it, I understand. Simply AMAZING!!! Never heard of JCW, and definitely deserves all the acting awards! But all the cast was great! It was refreshing to watch a show and be entertained from beginning to end. It has been so long. One of the best dramas and loved that it never went the typical kdrama cliches. kudos to the writer.

Truncated Thoughts:
My indomitable hope for TTM2 has taken another hit. Innguldai got arrested for possession of meth. METH?! REALLY?! Are you friends with Bumkey? smh
Watched:
Jdorama Platonic: I was a tad underwhelmed with the story itself, but the characters were intriguing even when I disagreed w/ them
Thai film Hello Stranger. I loved their chill vibe together. They were a hoot. Spotted Jung Suk-wan!
Started C-drama Legend of Zhen Huan. Should’ve rechecked the episode count before I pressed play. It’s too late now. See you on the other side (It may take a while).
Long Winded thoughts:
Caught up on Grapevine. I vacillate b/t vast amusement & immense frustration. The humor keeps me going. The conforming attempts are beginning. Welcome to the dark side, rich people don’t eat cookies. Also, I was worried about her edu & it seems they'll address it but I coincidentally found out that technically she could’ve avoided dropping out. See: http://thegrandnarrative.com/2013/09/06/korean-room-cafes-teenagers/
Watched Big Match. WOOHOO! Fun ride. I like Lee Jung Jae more every time I see him. He has fun w/ his roles, & beautiful as he is, he’s not too cool for school, which is abundantly apparent here. Great cast all around. The CGI at the stadium & the fight with Andrei could have been crisper. Lost me a little but only for a moment.
Accidently started liking Legend of Fragrance. I read about it when a blogger expressed her interest in the secondary couple. Only their plot seemed engaging so I peeked in thinking I'd drop it. Most intentional humor aside, IT'S HYSTERICAL. Feels more like a fantasy than a period piece. Everything is in surreally bright hues. It does for perfumery what Jang Bori is Here did for hanbokery. The villain is experimenting with lady-human pheromones to make mind control perfume. The 2nd lead guy, a doctor, dabbles in hypnosis. His (soon to be) lover hypnotized two guys fighting over her to LITERALLY fight over her. The heroine has a dog nose. AGH I wish I had the skill/desire to recap just so I had a place to crack up at these antics. Oh & happy OT!

Thanks John! I actually know about Heisui since I started w/ Scarlet Heart on a rec w/ a link to her site. I think it was you who said Zhen Huan was better and more realistic. So far, it looks that way even though I enjoyed most of the former. I just hope the angst phase isn't as draggy as it was in Bu Bu Jing Xin. The director had forgotten to tell the leads there are more than 2 facial expressions that express pain and sorrow.

Anyone else here excited for "Producers" ?
I mean, c'mon, it's CHA TAE HYUN, KIM SOO HYUN, GONG HYO JIN, and IU ALL IN ONE DRAMA!!! Oh my goodness!!!! And it's been reported that both Kim Soo Hyun and Gong Hyo Jin are willing to take lower pay in order to be a part of the drama; I would understand Kim Soo Hyun doing it, because the writer is the same one of "You From Another Star", the drama that basically catapulted him into an even bigger name after " Moon/ Sun ", and he would have gotten aquainted with the writer after 2 dramas and all, but Gong Hyo Jin is also willing to do the same thing in lowering her pay to be a part of the drama, so I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the script and story/plot of this upcoming drama must be something good =) I can't wait!!!!!!

Hello, Beanies :).
I've been working on my Korean Red Riding Hood tale for what seems like ages. Recently, I've been thinking about submitting it to a particular publication that focuses on fairy tales. I also came up with a title for it (after struggling for six months or so, lol!).
I've finally come up with names for some of the characters in my Truant Scholar illustrated series (which I've shared on deviantart). Now that I've named them, I feel as though I can truly make the characters my own. The bad news, I guess, is that I haven 't done any new drawings for the series. Drawing hanboks and other details of traditional Korean life is not easy :P.
In terms of dramas, I am sticking to my decision to not watch more than two or three at a time. I don't consider myself k-drama crazy anyway. And I would like to use my time to do other things. Also, I'm not really interested in most of the plots.
In terms of non-Korean shows, is anyone here keeping up with Bates Motel?
Take care, everyone :)!

In the last Open Thread, some people recommend J drama, Honey and Clover so I watched and I love it. Thank you for recommending the drama!!
In a way this is a very Japanese drama; the way they have some silly jokes and sillly side kicks whose brief comments turned out to be quite enlightening. the OST sounds very Japanese( its melody and the lyric) as well.
While most dramas have some couple pairs in the end and we are eager to ship a couple or two, I do not think this drama is centred on the process of coupling. Indeed, I did not ship anyone in the entire episodes. The drama depicts one's emotional growth in an art college background and how one sided love can help people grow. I like the main female lead has an angel like appearance and her voice yet she is very strong yet very pure on emotional level.
Spoiler's alert:
I love when the main male lead finds out that he has no goal or purpose in his life and he is devastated and mad with this sad revelation and knocked down his piece completely out of his frustration. Then he decides to go on a road trip by bicycle out of a whim. Don't we all have this moment?( I doubt many people go on a road trip by a bicycle, thogh)
