Ha Ji-won courted for remake of In Time With You

Ha Ji-won! In a rom-com! Do we even need to know what it’s about? Okay, I guess I’ll tell you what it’s about, then we can cheer afterwards. SBS is developing a remake of the 2011 Taiwanese drama In Time With You (also known as Conditions of Love, starring Ariel Lin and Bolin Chen), and Ha Ji-won is now considering the offer to headline the series. The remake will be called The Time I’ve Loved You, 7000 Days and is being planned for a broadcast later this year.

The romantic comedy is about a man and a woman who are best friends (my favorite kind!!). They turn 30 and make a pact to be married before 35, and race each other to the altar while “helping” weed out potential suitors for each other. They find that they’re constantly dissatisfied with each other’s boyfriends and girlfriends, because they’ve really been in love with each other all this time. In the original drama it’s a 14-year friendship; in the remake it’ll be 20 years, hence the 7000 days.

The remake will be penned by writer Min Hyo-jung of Full House and Attic Cat, and produced by the drama house that did Will You Give Love Away and When a Man Loves; a PD has yet to be attached. Besides the fact that the Taiwanese drama was a huge hit both domestically and in Korea, the story basically describes my favorite type of romantic fiction.

It’s described as a thoughtful rom-com that navigates the thin line between love and friendship, with a realistic story and subtle emotions, and promises upbeat romance but also deeper discussions about life. It’s been forever and a day since a show like Bottom of the 9th With 2 Outs came along, and the fact that it might star Ha Ji-won just makes it perfect.

The Time I’ve Loved You is in negotiations to air later this year on SBS.

He's amazing and if watch him anything, but he's really to old for the part. Even the talk of GongYoo makes me wonder. He's a little to gorgeous to play a guy who dates sometimes but isn't surrounded by women. The character is so low key.

Well...I dunno. I mean, in the Taiwanese version, it seemed that Li Da Ran *could* have gotten with more ladies had he wanted to. It's just that he was fixated on Chen Yu Qing, which is why he didn't take as much advantage as he could have. I could definitely see Gong Yoo in a role like that. ^_^

Good news all over dramaland (and I'm not even complaining)!
I'm currently watching In Time With You (supeeeer late I know) and I'm so excited to see Korea's take on it! The chemistry between Ariel Lin and Chen Bolin is amazing so I hope if Ha Jiwon signs on, she gets to be paired with an actor who can have great chemistry with her, too. Ariel Lin and Chen Bolin looked absolutely perfect as You Qing and Da Ren! I think SBS made a good choice of courting her as Korea's You Qing.
I'm really watching this especially if Ha Jiwon signs on! Can't wait for this!

Required fields are marked *

I agree!! I think the casting of Ha Ji won as You Qing is spot on (if she agrees to it that is)!! I hope they tread carefully when casting lead male too - it would be very easy to paint Da Ren in plain strokes. Bolin made him very likeable as the boy next door, and gave him surprising depth. Same goes for Ariel Lin and the way she portrayed Yo Qing.

In Time With You is one of my favourite Tdramas, totally on par with dramas like 9 end 2 outs, which is one of my all time favourites when it comes to the friends turn to lovers premise.

This news actually makes me rather happy - considering I wasn't too sold on the idea when I first heard of the re-make. If they follow the drama faithfully in the grand scheme of things, then there's very little that can go wrong. Will be interesting to see how they put their own cultural stamp on it - should be a lot of fun!

After all, the remake of FTLY didn't fare too bad. Keeping my eyes open for this project!

Ah, I kept confusing ITWY with In a Good Way! No wonder the plot confused me.

I'm not familiar with ITWY so can't react if the slight plot change can be good or bad. It just reminds me of My Bestfriend's Wedding. Interesting...

I have no idea who should act opposite HJW though. 17 years of friendship means they should be very comfy around each other.

Since it's from the Attic Cat writer, maybe Kim Rae-won? After Punch, I wanna see him in a light/fun drama again. :D

The writer from Full House? Well, I didn't like Full House. So, I'm not too sure about the writer. I love the original version and I just hope that they pick the right actor to play Li Da Ren. Ha Ji Won is a good actress who always pick up good/successful projects (Why can't Hyun Bin do that??) so I hope that if she do pick up this project that the writer won't butcher it up, seeing that it's a remake and everything is already laid out. Please SBS, don't make the same mistake as HydeJekyll.

Yeh, I do hope they get the tone right for this drama - the original is rather subdued, highlighting the emotional transition from friends to lovers. It was a fine line in ITWY, and they really focused on those subtle moments which I LOVED!

What's the most recent project from Full House writer? Anyone know?

My concern is the writer too. I didn't like Full House. But it has been featured a decade ago. What has this writer been doing all this while? Is this his out-of-retirement project.

It's gonna be awkward to see her in high school uniform, even though just for a short portion.

I adore Li Da Ren character so much so hopefully they will pick a good actor for it. Gong Yoo is the first one came to my mind. Jo In Sung will be great too. I've been waiting for HJW & JIS reunion since 'What happened in Bali'

It's a 20 year difference. Verrry likely they will cast younger counterparts.

Whoever it is, this will be a good chance for the new faces since any role taken by Ha Ji Won seems to be favored by the general public. She's got a good rep.

Hopefully they'll let Kim Ji Won take on the younger Ha Ji Won. They always looked similar to me and if the film is popular it'll push her to leading status.

Male side...I am hoping for So Ji Sub. I still ship them from What Happened in Bali. Jo In Sung can be the cheating ex.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Why would they need younger counterparts. The original didn't spend all that much time on their past. There are just a lot of conversations showing us that they've been through a lot together. The leads played their characters in the few flash backs of high school. They didn't have younger actors.

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

yes, because the original characters were in their late 20's-turning 30 age. The characters in the remake are on their late 30's. i think using younger counterparts will be a wise decision unless we want to see cringe worthy late 30's actor in high school uniform playing a highschooler.

I don't think the likes of Goong Yoo will pass as a high schooler anymore...

0

Me too, kinda worried about this. What I loved about ITWY are the conversations between the 2 leads- like you can feel that these 2 people have known each other for a long time and can talk to each other about everything (well everything short of talking about their feelings). So it needs a really good script to be faithful to the original. I'm scared that the Korean remake will lack subtlety and be all over the place.

Admittedly, I'm not so thrilled about remakes (of any kind), but this is great news. And, I'm not too excited that it's the writer of Full House, but they've got great material to work with. I'm really hoping they don't mess this up. Dunno if that's too much to ask for.

Gong Yoo or Jo In-sung sound good for the male lead, I won't mind either one of them. But GY needs a good comeback, and HJW said she wanted to work with him next. SBS really better not mess up the casting for this.

It is a lovely drama Korfan;realistic but not mundane, romantic but not fluffy. The lead female is a character most working women above the age of 30(esp single ones) can identify with.Women of all ages would like her anyways. The lead male is the ideal best-friend. Their camaraderie is the best thing about that drama though the ensemble cast is good too. I can write pages about ITWY. Check out the Taiwanese version, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Though I didn't really like her very popular It Started With A Kiss, but that was really her best work, I usually hated any character like her's but she was so likable I simply couldn't hate her. Everytime she cried, I wanted to cry with her, hug her and tell her its all ok.

I really really hope they don't just get a 20-something actor and then age him up. Since this is gonna be a 20-year friendship, I'd really want something utterly convincing. The chemistry and acting ability of the two leads are what's gonna make or break a show like this, so I hope they'll cast one of the 30-something actors that's closer to Ha Ji Won's age - and hopefully with just as much acting experience!

I would love to see Gong Yoo in this. I think he does have a Li Da Ren vibe and I can definitely see him selling the whole pining one-sidedly angle. If the leads were gonna be in their late 20s like in the original, I would have loved to see Seo In Guk play Li Da Ren's role, but he could never pass for someone in his mid to late 30s. I mean, just not too long ago, he was playing a high schooler, so.

I like Ha Ji-won although I don't think her range as an actress is particularly wide. She's not pushing any boundaries with this character, but she'll play it to a T, because that's the kind of role she tends to take and does well in.

I'm not sure I'll be tuning in though. Although I like friendship-based romances, the friendship e.g. in Bottom of the 9th With 2 Outs was pretty solid, the one the In Time with You was Ariel's character taking Li Da Ren for granted and Li Da Ren bending over backwards and licking her shoes. That's just not friendship to me. The Full House writer doesn't inspire any confidence that the characters would be improved in this manner, though I hope the Korean version will make the episodes when the couple finally gets together less awkward/bizarre!

I think HJW is popular because her image/aura is so likeable. She's the girl-next-door type who you want to be friends with. She's also known to have good relationships with costars and cast members... But yeah I agree with you about her acting-- when I watch her act, I sometimes think that she's just doing what she already did in another role. I still like her though, mainly because she just seem so down-to-earth.

Ummm, have you even watched her works? She's played so many roles, way more than any other actress out there. Dunno what you're watching. Her best known roles aside from SeGa aren't even rom/coms.

Yeah, ji chang wook-ha jiwon reunion would be great eventhough chang wook would be a lot younger compared to the character's age but still... I want to see their reunion before chang wook enlists

Their chemistry on/off-screen was amazing in Empress Ki but I think Ji Chang Wook is a little bit young for this role... maybe for another project it would be nice to see them together again :)

I would love to see Ha Ji Won and Jo In Sung or So Ji Sub in this drama ^^

Yessh!!

Loved that drama and love Ha Ji Won so I'm all thumbs up for this :D Just hope she signs on and they find a suitable male lead to scorch up the screen with their chemistry.

Ack, not convinced about that Full House writer though. I know it was popular and all but oh man was it annoying!
Give me some more of that 9 ends 2 out goodness instead, pretty please!

Also, Bolin Chen's song for the OST? Soooo beautiful <3 I'll just go re-listen to it now :) Here's a link to youtube, if anyone is unlucky enough not to have heard it.

Oh my gosh...I just watched the first episode of the Taiwanese version and I really hope Ha Ji Won decides to do this project - she would be perfect for this role and it's such a huge departure from the types of roles she normally takes on. The choices for male lead are huge and although I would love to see her paired with Hyun Bin again, I hope other more mature men are considered for the male lead: Song Seung-Heon, So Ji Sub, Go Soo, Jung Woo-Sung, Joo Sang-Wook, or Gong Yoo (in that order) would be my immediate choices.

Any chance an actor can do two SBS drama in the same year? Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won have the best chemistry.

Really love them. My SeGa feels. I was watching BTS of Hyde, Jekyll Me, and HB and HJM are so awkward. Even the kiss BTS was so weird and awkward. Unlike in Secret Garden... all their BTS were so cute. He would hug her and pat her constantly. They were so friendly and lovely together.
That's why I think their chemistry is undeniably the best together. Both bring the best out of each other.

I don't think its possible, but I would love it if it could be true.

HB and HJW forever and ever to the infinity :)

"I was watching BTS of Hyde, Jekyll Me, and HB and HJM are so awkward. Even the kiss BTS was so weird and awkward. Unlike in Secret Garden"

This is EXACTLY the reason why I've stopped watching, this "chemistry" thing was not working at so many levels and it totally killed the drama for me. I didn't want to ruin HB's amazing leading man qualities (wooing all his female costars and charming them to death) by watching this cold turkey! Ugh I wish there was more of HB magic in HJ&M, BUT unfortunately that was so very lacking that it hurts to watch!

I would die happy if that happened. I'll even give up on the tons of amazing dramas coming up if I can get my SeGa pairing again. Hyun Bin and Ha Ji-won is magic I've never seen in another pair. That chemistry was out of the charts!

I learnt the hard way that more than the cast, the writers and the production team really are the pillars of a good drama.

I love Ha Ji Won, but I'm not sold on this remake. I hated Full House and When a man loves was a disaster. Not sure how good the drama can be with such weak pillars.

For her sake, hope it works out. If I hear good stuff about it, I'll give it a try.

I loved the original with Ariel and Bolin, so I was looking forward to updates about this remake. Would be awesome if HJW accepts the offer!!

This writer does not give me the confidence to cast my biases so...but I agree with the suggestions that her leading man can't be too young. I've got nothin' but time will tell. But I suggest a pithier title because title + # of days= trauma. *Cough* God's Gift *Cough* How 'bout just 7000 Days? Remakes don't always have to bear the name of their predecessor.

As long as they give her a good pairing.

I'd love to see her opposite Lee Jung Jin for some reason.

I wouldn't mind her reunite with Bi Rain (he needs to start choosing better roles).

Gong Yoo would be an interesting pairing! I'd definitely approve of this!
