Kolorful Palette: Split [Kill Me, Heal Me]

I’m a huge Ji Sung fan, so I’m surprised I didn’t watch Kill Me, Heal Me earlier. I think what I love about him is that he always gives layered performances and is able to convincingly switch between moods and tones at the blink of an eye without us even noticing the sudden transitions. I remember in Protect the Boss he had me in hysterics one moment and practically weeping the next (I’ve been a fan ever since). I can’t imagine much better casting for a character with multiple personalities in a drama that has both comedic and melo elements.

I drew this scene (Shin Se-gi after Ri-on takes Ri-jin away from him) because I thought it was an excellent example of Ji Sung’s great acting. His turmoil is palpable, but the way he showcases his frustration and anguish is also entirely unique to Shin Se-gi. Every single one of Do-hyun’s alternate personas would have showcased these feelings differently, but Ji Sung seems to jump between roles like it’s easier than breathing (I particularly enjoy Perry Park’s appearances).

Despite Se-gi being the most despicable of the personas he still gets me right in the feels (besides oozing charisma) and I actually find myself feeling the most sorry for him. He’s right about being the one who has to deal with Do-hyun’s tougher emotions, and who would want to live an entire existence that’s essentially based on being in pain? Sure, he puts on a facade of power and control, but just as Do-hyun is Se-gi, Se-gi is Do-hyun, and there’s a reason there are always tears breaking through his anger. Just because he’s more capable of dealing with certain feelings doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel them. This scene that I drew also showcased how helpless he truly feels, and I can’t say that I blame him for feeling that way. If he were ever to attain real peace, he would no longer have a reason to exist, so he can never strive to be anything but what he already is without “killing” himself. As viewers we know that he won’t really disappear, and that his strength will be added to Do-hyun’s as part of the process of making him whole, but even that would be difficult to come to terms with.

I tried a new medium in Corel Painter this time around, which was simply Colored Pencils. I’ve never particularly enjoyed pencil crayons in real life, and I can’t say that I’m any more enamored with their digital counterparts now that I’ve given them a try. I think they can be fantastic, but I don’t feel very adept with them and definitely need a lot practice. I guess it’s nice to have something to work towards!

I can’t say it’s as dear to my heart as Healer, but I’m really glad I finally picked this drama up (took me long enough). Yes, there are some pacing issues, and Ri-jin is more hammy and high-strung that I’d like, but I’d happily stick it out for Do-hyun’s journey. I feel surprisingly invested in every single one of the personalities’ progressions, and am genuinely excited to watch them resolve themselves into one healthy person. Between Kill Me, Heal Me, Healer and Hyde, Jekyll, Me it seems like multiple identities are all the rage. I bet it makes for fun acting, but luckily for me it also makes for fun drawing. Keep ’em coming!

From someone who thought she was first.
What? Healer is mediocre?!?! Mediocre, kehpul!
Mediocre?! Wow, that’s just you, alone, in that opinion, girl. Haha, KMHM is great coz It’s Ji Sung and that’s my top 2 , tied with Shine and Go Crazy coz of Jang Hyuk.
Healer is Top 1 coz it is something else, not your usual Romcoms, the story is interesting but most of all, the OTP is just fab! The sugar overdose I got from watching healer is incomparable to anything I’ve watched lately. Too bad everything was lost on you. Your loss, our immense gain. Don’t have much of a sweet bone, huh? Or just jaded. Tchk, tchk. Pity.

I prefer Healer than KMHM, just because it makes me feel like a main character while I'm watching it. KMHM is surely a gold drama too but the drama that leaves me wanting more, that leaves me wishing I was Chae Young Shin, that leaves my heartbeat extrapolating... is.. HEALER.

Healer is a good feeling drama for all the squee moments, but if you want great acting drama, then KMHM is it. I love actors who can act and Ji Sung is superb in here, and Yoo Gi Tae is my crush in Healer. It helps that the OTP in Healer is very cute and lovable, while in KMHM, it's a little pity that I can't warm up to Ri-jin, too loud and too silly, but Ji sung's acting alone makes me fan of KMHM.

Healer has a consistency that KMHM doesn't, I'd say. I truly enjoy KMHM but I'm aware there are going to be stretches when I'm annoyed (Ri-jin's frequently over the top for me, and Yo-na's boyband freakout would be all over the place as a chaebol meltdown). KMHM is not as uneven as J,H,M but doesn't feel as tight and consistent as Healer.

Ri-jin's shriek-y monkey-dance, for instance? No. That made me cringe and hide, and partly because it felt so damn tonally off. Meanwhile her confident and sweetly casual speech about unifying the alters was brilliant. I expect Do Hyun to be all over the map, but Ri-Jin too?

You nailed it. I'm more invested in the Idea of this show than the actual show. The plot and Ji Sung both are good and have so much potential. There are some really great moments, but those almost make me mad because it shows that they CAN make great TV, I just wish they'd do it the full hour. So, it is a show I keep watching because I want to know what happened to DH as a kid and those few golden moments.

Oh my goodness, I wanted to love KMHM so much, but I don't because of Ri-jin!! I dropped KMHM after episode 5 because her character killed the drama for me :( I almost dropped it right after the exact scene you mentioned, Ri-jin’s shriek-y monkey-dance. Her over the top character is keeping me emotionally disconnected from an otherwise great plot and performance by Ji-sung :( I loved Ji-Sung and the same lead actress together in the drama Secret, so I thought I would for sure love KMHM, but sadly no. Even though Secret isn't usually the type of drama I love, the chemistry between the leads really sold it to me. So I thought KMHM with the same leads would be a home run!

While there's nothing wrong with not liking something and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, this is the kind of comments that no one takes seriously and just seems rude. Maybe if you bothered to elaborate on why you think Healer is "mediocre" then maybe someone will actually bother to answer you

A healer fan, how cute...We're tend to compare ongoing shows,
Nothing wrong with that. ..even fareday did it here ; )
Abd since you ask, I'll tell you why I think KMHM is a way better show: the conflict in healer seems forced, no powerful behind the scenes political-criminal organization would be this incompetent; the plot is boring and the writer/s use it only for some character development. while the pair is cute their intaractions stopped being interesting since ep 10 and I don't get the hype. The actor was much better in empress ki. All those healer characters, they're pretty two-dimensional... and while we also have some cliché chaebol and lost kid stuff in KMHM, the characters are alive, complex and I genuinely care what happens to them. Not to mention those transformations... I think we have the best drama of the year.

I loovee Ji Chang Wook ...from the early stage of his career..And I am squee and happy for him to get the role Ta Hwan in Empress Ki where he could shine.
I luuv Ji Sung too, although not as the same level as JCW..I like JS since the Last Dance but just pick his good drama and not becoming the die hard fans
This year I am very happy because I found two good dramas..
I follow healer on Monday and Tuesday ..and then I watch KMHM..
But, I have to admitt that KMHM is better than Healer (mianheyo JCW ssi).. the story keep make us want more and more...In fact I just hold to watch some of the Healer episodes because I want to watch KMHL as soon as possible
KMHM's mix recipe between sad, happy, even makjang with chaebol story really work for me.. The actors and actresses are gorgeous in their acting, the story line is wonderful, and the side story also interesting..
There so many character that people can root for..but for me..
Cha Do Hyun I already feel for you..

I guess you haven't seen Heart to Heart. I was so use to assuming the cliche thing was going to happen and then this drama does the opposite more realistic thing and shocked me a couple of times. People talking to each other about their true feelings at the time they are feeling it. The lead couple are adorable.

ikr! I was amazed at how natural the relationships in heart to heart were compared to regular dramas, especially considering the protagonist of heart to heart has anthropophobia making the natural interactions even more extraordinary. I mean here's a drama where grown ups act and talk like grown ups, fall in love like grown ups, speak their mind and don't wallow in angst and misunderstanding, where they actually have sex and treat intimacy like it's a normal part of a relationship (& not make a hullabaloo over a really stiff kiss right towards the end of the story.. i mean even 40 year olds act like shy preteens with their first crush in most kdramas) quite refreshing, though confusing considering it's a drama out to depict social anxiety and phobia. maybe dramaland is opposite land, where the sane act crazy and the crazy act sane (another case in point- it's okay it's love, one of the sanest dramas out of kdrama land and full to bursting with supposedly insane people)

@ alpha, Miranda,
I know it's hard to get the same feel about other shows after watching Healer. Healer may not get the most votes for the greatest acting or greatest plot line or greatest directing but there's just something very very special about it.

KMHM is a fantastic show and it's growing on me episode by episode. Ri Jin may be rather over the top but I love My Girl (Lee Da Hae) so I accept the whole package - Ri Jin makes me laugh, Ri On is so so awesome, Do Hyun deserves to be happy...

However it's just hard to compare with Healer...probably it's hard for some of us to identity with DID or not-twin-dilemma. The acting is superb but it's a little extraordinary story so while we love it, we haven't "experience" it .... That probably explains why some of us love Healer so much - we want to "experience" it...

Just want to add that scenes like Ri Jin "jumping on" Do Hyun and Ri On wailing for mommy in the basement were absolutely hilarious, after kiss scene in Ep 9 was very cute... followed by the heart wrenching regret faced by Ri On. So KMHM is a great show.

Required fields are marked *

I liked both of those moments, they just don't balance out the shrieking, wailing moments that were heavy in the first handful of episodes. There was a lot of jumbled stuff in the first episodes - too many players, clumsy backstory intro, it felt really incoherent. Healer's balance was better straight out of the gate.

KMHM is much better now, but took a lot longer to get a balance. I've always liked Ri On, because he seems to know he's being histrionic and do it intentionally, but Ri Jin's similar nuttiness just came off as unhinged - Ri On's self-aware that he's throwing a tantrum in front of his mom and does it for effect, but Ri Jin's hysteria is not aware and... bizarre.

Healer's world is also much more self-contained, so it doesn't bother me as much as KMHM's, where there are consequences that should be cropping up due to the alters' behavior that just... aren't.

Maybe she didn't post her comment to get validation or replies and why does she have to explain why she thinks the show is mediocre?

It's just expressing her opinion. People have to accept that others won't feel the same about a show they love and noone should have to justify their opinions if they don't want to.

Fact is, there will be fans like this EVERYWHERE, in all fandoms. It's expected that people will make these sorts of comments. I find this person a bit tame tbh, it's more of a jab than pure hatred, but disrespectful all the same.

You just have to ignore it, if it bothers you.

0

I haven´t seen Healibers be respectful yet. they always attack with a mile long talk on how awesome Healer is despite not having proper plot, direction, acting being sub-par and not enough action.
Telling the truth and speaking your mind is not rude, even if it gets on Healibers nerves that not everyone swoons over this drama.
expecting someone to explain why they think it is mediocre when they dont care enough to waste their precious time of life on it, now THAT is rude, you kids.

But in term of leading actress i do prefer chae young shin character instead of oh ri jin...don't get me wrong.. i like hwang jung eum since secret love...but her character as ri jin i like less maybe because she love to shout!?
as for hyde jeckll me.. i can't say anything since i didn't watch it yet.. I'm not a fans of hyun bin but I'll watch it Later.. just that jisung acting in KMHM freakishly awesome make want to watch only him in his 6 personality.. and as much i think se gi is jjang! I love perry park apperance and yona and i like the calm but disturbing yo sub... but in the end of course i have to choose only cha do hyun.. ^^

Ah why the fuss? Live and let live. Every show will have its merits and demerits. Comparing Healer and KMHM is like comparing apples to oranges, they aren't even the same genre.
For the record, I enjoy both these shows and I think the best Kdrama currently airing is Punch, whose recaps have trouble passing 50 comments mark :)

Haha I'm watching Healer, Punch and Kill Me, Heal Me. Healer has this cohesiveness in the storytelling that I like and is missing in KMHM, although the latter show is growing on me because of Ji-sung's awesomeness in both serious and comedic moments. Healer makes me squee a lot. I love both shows, but....Punch for the win! :D

PS: I don't comment in Punch recaps but I love the show. Number of comments do not always represent number of viewers or the love it gets :)

Healer's script is by Song Ji Na whose reputation precedes her. The unrealistic tech and always available Ajumma aside, her writing is most assured when it comes to inter-personal relationships.
KMHM definitely is a show pulling in viewers on powerhouse acting and chemistry by all three lead actors. And the OST, Auditory Hallucinations! Oh ri jin's screeching and dancing is why I love her more. As long as she doesn't turn into a weeping mess a la Secret, or the show doesn't turn on the ick factor with incest, I will stick with it.

These are reasons why some people dont post because people bash other shows for no purpose. I am calling people out on this post who are trolling about Healer because some of the comments about inconsistency, no character develoment, boring, doesnt even make sense if you ACTUALLY watch the show. It shows from their comments they are making stuff up to bash other shows.

BTW, I do watch both shows and I like both of them and I dont appreciate why people need to bash other shows for no purpose then create these pointless fan attacks.

No, bell's not referring to this post, and they specifically mentioned Healer fans getting a bad rep.

Truth be told, the Healer fandom is pretty overwhelming for a lot of people. For many, the experience is ruined when you watch a show and come to a site like DB (where you'd like to have discussions/read others comments on the show) but the readers' response is so profuse that your eyes kinda just glaze over and or you just recoil. It's one instance where the fandom does sort of a disservice to the show.

But hey, don't get me wrong. Everyone deserves their fun. Personally, I'll read the recaps and ignore the rest. Else, I'll flip out trying to go through the thread.

0

Also, would like to add these KMHM fans are not very friendly given the fan attack they started and attacking other fans/making stuff up about them for no purpose. It is a stark contrast to the lovely Healer community. Really sad.

"making stuff up"?

Frankly I'm glad the Healer fans are so into the drama but the bad rep is coming from the way you guys used to spam other dramas' comment threads with Healer stuff and going on and on about how many comments each recap gets - I noted it happening on Pinocchio, and that just happened to be a drama I watched.

It's all very well to love your show, but don't be surprised if other drama fans get annoyed with you for behaviour like what I described - it's like a really pushy party host following you around with food that you don't want to eat, insisting you HAVE to eat it or else. Some of us just don't like it that much.

0

because they get annoying and just post these really long gushing comments. and they are rude and feel offended at every slightest bit cooler reaction to the drama

I stopped watching healer at the 8th episode, then I took it back when I saw all the reviews it was having.
After that only watched like 3 episodes more but I had to switch to recaps...for like 1 episode. I got so bored, that I didn't wanted to read about it.
I don't it's mediocre (I've watched worse), but is just like any other drama...you already know what's going to happen at the end, and that takes the excitement away.
Unlike healer, KMHM is really good at keeping you guessing, without being bored, and with good nature and silly humor.

Just throwing my two cents in.

I watch both KMHM and Healer... and I'm in the Healer camp. (not to say I don't like KMHM, but just - I'm much more entertained by Healer) I think the difference for me is that, KMHM, while it's interesting and fun to watch Ji Sung switch from character to character, the show doesn't manage to captivate me from episode to episode with the story telling. I've seen shows/plays where yes, one actor's awesome acting 'carried' the entire show - but really, that's all I'd ever remember from it - that good actor, that monologue they did, the emotive eyes, etc...but not so much the play/show itself. And NOTE: Not insinuating KMHM is a bad show AT ALL! I enjoy the show thoroughly!

We're at the half way mark (I think?), and we're just at the beginning to peel the backstory's layers through Ri-jin learning about what's going on. We're with the same flashback scene over and over again - in the basement, cowering in fear. Yes - I saw that last episode, and last week, and the week before that... I may have even seen it in that first episode.... show me something new!

And I think this is where Healer comes out stronger - in the story telling. The writer is withholding information just like any other dramas out there, but they're leaving a good amount of backstory crack in every episode - here's a little bit more to that flash back from last week, and more HERE, and there! and then you're just there going... MOARRRRRRR I need to know the whole story!! AHHHH! Reminds me of Reply 1994 ... clues here and there, and before I knew it, I was hooked.

And as a side thing about my own personal growth... lol

I'm a person who enjoys reading spoilers (thank you, Dramabeans!) I'm a coward - I like to know what's in store for me before I actually watch it, I like to be prepared! But Healer was the first drama that I thought... no... this process... experiencing this story without any prior knowledge is so good, so thrilling, I cannot read the story beforehand! I'm absolutely enjoying every second of watching it. Be it the romantic scenes with young shin and healer, or the sad scenes with the Old Healer (T_T), I'm relishing in being RIGHT THERE with them. The show isn't perfect, I realize that - but I think I've developed a faith on the show that I don't think they'll screw me over with something absolutely batshit crazy/infuriating/stupid problem/dilemma just to cause a problem that has nothing to do with how the show has been developing towards.... Crossing my fingers... don't burn me, show!!!! You only have two hours left! Don't screw it up!

And quickly going back to KMHM... I actually don't have any problems with Ri-jin's screaming/over the top reactions. It's actually quite enjoyable and hilarious.

0

Required fields are marked *

It isn't any more silly or non-realistic than any other tv show out there, to be frank.

ALL dramas are based on fantasy, more or less. To point out any one drama as being unworthy because it isn't exactly realistic is the only silly thing I can see.

If you want to watch something that is entirely true to life, sit outside and observe your neighbors. Park yourself on a bench in the park, or at the market. Hell, look in the mirror.

Dramas are to show you bits and pieces of lives you CAN'T see, or a bit of fantasy that no one will ever see. If you don't like how a particular drama does that, then don't watch it - and more importantly, SHUT UP ABOUT IT. No one really cares if any one person doesn't like a drama, so why waste your breath and their time?

People come to sites like this to talk about things they LIKE, and hopefully, to have well-considered discussions about it - which will include an honest acknowledgement of flaws.

But to just dump on a show because it's not your cup of tea and to say it over and over and over again everywhere you possibly can? Why do that?

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

Saying that all dramas are all equally valuable because they sell different fantasies is absurd--TV doesn't exist in a critical vacuum. By that rationale, you could put things like Power Rangers and things like The Wire on equal footing--they're both selling fantasies of law enforcement, after all, one just involves kids dressed in silly costumes taking orders from a face in a giant tube, and the other is a gritty, well-researched, ground-up examination of drug lords and police in Baltimore. You see what I'm saying?

Healer is not the silliest drama out there (which frankly says more about dramas than Healer), but it's a trendy drama masquerading as a noirish thriller. That's what it is. It can't be taken seriously next to respectable genre offerings like, say, Cruel City, or Time Between Dog and Wolf.

0

And by the way? You are rude, very often. To say (once) 'I didn't like it, it was too silly for my tastes.' that is not rude.

To say 'it's a silly house-wife fantasy' is to convey two things:

1. You don't like it.
2. You look down on those who do.

Excuse me...I am not singling you out, although I did single you out. I meant comments like that. So yes, you, in my opinion, can be rude....but you aren't any different than a lot of the other posters in that regard other than that you don't seem to understand how it comes across, maybe.

I myself am rude at times, I acknowledge this. But when I don't like a show, I don't talk about it. To borrow your words: I don't have that time to waste.

I think it was @Jomo who explained on another thread, maybe OT thread, what the process is for recappers. JB & GF do make a living off this site, but I believe the recappers are volunteers or else are paid nominally so their RL probably takes precedence before their KDrama duties.

Ah yes! Healer and KMHM! My two shows! I love both (and both of my Ji's are rocking it)! Ji Sung is incredible in this drama- I don't think anyone else could have pulled it off with that much aplomb but He manages it!! I even named my havanese puppy after Perry Park... Yesss, I have a special place in my heart for accents (apparently even when they're in a foreign language I still luv 'em)...

And while Se-gi may have the guyliner and hot bad-boy attitude, and each of the personalities has their own appeal, it's Do-hyun I love most.

Side note: anyone who's a Ji Sung fan should totally watch My PS Partner - I love him with Hwang Jung-eum but I loooooooooove him with Kim Ah-joong (kind of nice to see people in movies behaving like real people dealing with relationships, and also a really appealing mix of sex+ friendship - no surprise when they met via an identity mixup round of phone sex)

@yimmi - yeah, it's Ji Sung singing!

but I repeat, watch the movie! It doesn't have the same impact if you don't get the context, since it explicitly (hehe) refers to events in the story.

Their chemistry got right to me because they really took such a normal adult approach to the relationship without turning the friendship into just window dressing for the romance/sex. Like they're insanely hot but also make you laugh really hard, and I love it.

They didn't even interact face to face until nearly half of the movie but once can see that the chemistry is tantalizing. There are so many situations in the movie that could turn out to be cringe-worthy but like you said, the characters approach the relationship in a mature way and their dialogues just flow so naturally, which hit me right in the feels.

Hi ! I am also watching Healer and loving it immensely, and I started watching KMHM because I thought it looked interesting. I still love Healer and it's still my favourite drama, but KMHM is really good on it's own : Ji Sung is absolutely fantastic, and I found myself rooting for him as Cha Do Hyun. I had some troubles with Oh Ri Jin (the female lead) at the beginning (a little bit too much shrieking), but overall, she is a really interesting character.
So my point is : you can watch it, it's GOOD :)
(and anyway, Healer ends Tuesday (noooooooooo!), so you can start it after if you don't want to watch the 2 shows at the same time). Hope I could help you ^^

Required fields are marked *

They're different flavors - Healer has tight storytelling and navigates smoothly with a well-cast group of actors who carry the show well, and KMHM has Ji Sung absolutely knocking 7 personalities out of the park. One's a symphony, the other's an incredible guitar solo.

For me the difference is that I watch Healer for the whole experience, and with KMHM I'm waiting for Ji Sung's next change because his acting is extremely impressive. But that means I notice when the writing and pacing of KMHM aren't up to par.

Required fields are marked *

That's probably one of the more amazing things about Ji Sung's acting is that Do Hyun could totally be overshadowed by the other characters but he isn't. As much as I love the others Do Hyun captured my heart. The whole wristwatch-time-setting makes my heart skip a little. I see enough of Se Gi in Do Hyun that I don't find myself having to choose between the two. On the other hand, if I had to choose my Healer/Jung Hoo/PBS it would be Park Bong Soo all the way (well, I think so anyway- that's how much I fell for Bong Sookie! I'd even give up Healer for him [which would be strange since they are the same person, but there is no Bong Sookie when Healer is being Healer, and so I miss him when he isn't "there"]! So glad he made a comeback on Healer....)!

@ yimmi
You expressed it so sweetly. I feel the same way about Do Hyun and PBS. We really want Do Hyun to overcome his struggles and merge with Se Gi but we want to be PBS.
We want to view the world through his glasses, we want him to be the hero and the healer, we want him to kiss and hug CYS, we want him to be jealous of KMH but we also want them to bromance...
Ji Sung is amazingly versatile and charismatic as expected by his character(s) ...but we just can't help falling in love with the dorky and shy PBS, the brave and lonely Healer...

when everything is over and the other personalities goes away, it will be so sad to watch. i've come to love all the personalities. and to think that i'm contemplated between se gi and do hyun, even when in reality, they're the same people at all. falling for a second lead in a drama is called second lead syndrome, then what do you call when you fall in love with the second personality of the lead of the drama?
a lot of kdrama makes it a trend nowaday, making the female lead torn between the first personality and the second personality of the male lead, ex: KLHM, Hyde Jekyll Me. even Healer is kind of using the same plot (park bong so and seo jung ho). i just hope they don't overused the plot in future drama

I wish horny fans would stop drooling over Se Gi, the guy has enough worries already without stalkers like them... cmon, iwith Do Hyun´s childhood memories...

That's unfortunate. Maybe it's just the timing, and I can see that HB is doing well with what he's got, but... KMHM is so much more complex than JHM that it's really too bad the comparisons are so obvious.

I still don't get what's happening on JHM. The circus stuff is so fluffy (what circus has a gorilla? If you have a gorilla, why is no one ever taking care of it? Where did it go when you went on a retreat? Why are you hiring a pom-pom squad?) and the split-personality character is fine but kind of just there.

It kind of reminds me of Pushing Daisies, but they didn't go all-in, which you have to do with a show so heavy on whimsy. Instead they've ended up with whatever JHM is.

What is weird (but a real testament to his abilities) is that I believe that his different personalities are different people. fanderay i agree with u about si ge. out of everyone i feel the most sorry towards him. honestly his resentment, pain and anger is well founded. to live in world where he only gets to feel pain is quite sad. than he he falls in love with ri-jin. who i'm pretty sure met when they where children. do-hyun starting to love her too. si ge may see this as do-hyun trying to take the little happiness away. i understand why se gi feels the way he does.

Hi there! Nice to see you! And I couldn't agree more...

"Ji Sung is amazingly versatile and charismatic as expected by his character(s) …but we just can’t help falling in love with the dorky and shy PBS, the brave and lonely Healer…"

Yes, yes! There's just something sooo adorable about Park Bong Soo/ and heartbreaking about Healer's loneliness that I literally could not help falling for him every time I watched Healer. I am enjoying KMHM and i'm intrigued by the secret family tree drama but it has not reached the level of my Healer fervor (well except maybe Shin Se Gi ep. 2- those steamy guylinered eyes almost had me along with the "cheesy" pick up lines. I LOVE cheesy lines! I Adore cheese! What's wrong with cheese, I ask?). Anyway, I can hardly choose between the two dramas and i'm glad they air on different days so I don't have too!;)

*wave* Lovely response, yimmi. Yes, every tiny facial gesture from JCW / SJH / PBS conveys so much. And I recall many of us gushed about his strut.

Yes indeed, if not for the same period of airing, none of us would have brought up any comparison as the script and plot in both KMHM and Healer are different. So you brought up a valid point. There's no competition between the two.

Cheesy and sexy SEGI. Haha. Trust only Ji Sung can deliver that so well. When DH confessed to loving:missing the feeling to love someone, I didn't realize he was so aware of his feelings. I had thought he was too preoccupied with his struggles and cleaning up messes. It was a beautiful touch of maturity and understanding that it rendered Ri Jin almost speechless.

So well expressed, Shuerei! You brought up one of my favorite moments! I hadn't expected such an insightful, deep comment to come from Do Hyun right then. I had expected the writers would play up the first love angle more but the fact that he was aware that his feelings for Chae Yeon (I think I got her name right) were related to his wanting to be free from his emotional constraints and just love someone...JANUARY 29th 10 p.m.- the time I fell for Cha Do Hyun! Thank you Fandery, for this wonderful art of Shin Se Gi and his raw emotions.

I love how Ji Sung here depicts his guilt, anger and sadness all at once, whilen not letting the tears swimming in his eyes fall..... This kind of restraint takes a really skilled and great actor to depict and that is why Ji Sung rocks the role here!

Also, I'm glad you chose to depict his face only because this puts focus on his eyes. Not sure about you guys here but I really really really really LOVE Ji Sung's eyes. They are not the teenage girls comic story hero's prince charming's eyes. They are also not particularly large eyes.

BUT.

Ji Sung's eyes are so gentle and clear. You can see yourself in his eyes! I've always love them, and I think no other Kdrama actors out there now have eyes that are like his.

And.

Just because Fanderay talked a little about Healer here, doesn't mean that we should start a word of war between the 2 dramas.

This is not THE place to discuss which is better which is not. We can do that maybe in Soompi foru, coz its a forum!

I love both KMHM and Healer. Of course, there are elements in both dramas to love and definitely some parts we don't. Both Ji Sung and JCW have expressive eyes and I love them both because they are just so GOOD in their craft.

Couldn't agree more about Ji Sung ' s eyes. There's really like something special in his gaze. I've watched so many kdramas and honestly never seen such expressive eyes. I always thought his eyes are what makes him so special and different from any other actor. The man could just stand there and do nothing and express everything with just a gaze. I first noticed him in Swallow the sun. He doesn't talk much in it and god there's no need to, coz you can totally see everything in his eyes. Gotta love Ji Sung and his out of this world eyes hehe <3

damn, whats with this healer vs KMHM, things like this never turn out well. any ways i love and prefer kill me heal me, also im loving ji sung and jung eum as their characters and they have such an awesome chemistry. i love ji sung like my god, his amazing. also i really love ri jin, she's my home girl, yes she is loud and weird, but she is also smart, intuitive, strong willed, no non sense kind of person, has agency, isnt oblivious to everything and doesnt take crap from DH/SG. she is very reactive, just the way i like it.

im using love here a lot but i seriously do love the show, like people have mentioned the show seems like a parody/rom-com/mystery/action/medical/psych rolled into one and its self aware. whats great is that all these elements are handled very well and i really am happy with the way they have handled the psych aspect of it, i've done my research on DID. they have tons of references and easter eggs as well as clues that have been placed from the start to aid in the many mysteries this drama hasnt fully revealed yet. i also love the relationship between DH and ri jin, its not that hateful/cold relationship that warms up towards the end the drama, which for me sometimes is not enough.

KMHM never ceases to make me laugh and confuse the hell out of me when it comes to all the secrets, everyone one i know have talked to are constantly trying to figure the mystery's out, the thing is when we thing we have we cant be sure at all. i like not knowing where the show is going and not being able to predict. oh im sure it has its flaws like any drama/movie but if its not pervasive and shadows the overall quality of the drama, then thats a good drama. anyways i think the show is very cleverly written, solid plot and great acting by everyone. also the recaps by saya and purplecow are really insightful and reflective of why this show is wonderful.

awww SeGi... I used to laugh at how the drama played with the fact that SeGi asks Ri Jin to choose between Do Hyun and him and as I watched I was like "but how can she choose when YOURE HIM AND HE'S YOU!" but SeGi has consistently made me believe his dilemma is a "real" one... The other personalities go running around enjoying their moment doing what they like - even Yo sub reads his fav books and listens to music now- but even when he really loves Ri Jin it comes off as an obsession to everyone else because hes the "violent" personality... The moment he settles and feels comfortable then someone else appears and he has to wait until anger and/or pain affects Do Hyun...
Now about Ji sung himself: I liked him a lot during his Protect the Boss days and had me in stitches with his childish antics with Jaejoong but now he flawlessly mixes that comedy with angsty angst that leaves me in tears in a heartbeat! Every personality is a separate person imo.. He has those "puppy-like eyes" one minute and the other that powerful gaze!

Dear Fanderay,

It's a really beautiful drawing. I like reading your thoughts about the drama and why you picked certain scenes to draw.
I'm no artist, but I noticed that colored-pencils use a kind of impressionism feel to them. They seem to always have highlights in 'weird' colors, which when you stand back, makes up a better whole image, than something that's viewed up close...or something.. I dunno. I've just seen something like apples drawn with like blue highlighting and thought "uh...what...?" but I guess somehow the color-technique or whatever works out. I don't know. I'm rambling.

You have a beautiful art here! I agree about Se Gi.. He's really a pitiful guy. He exists because of pain and he can do nothing to fix it. And no matter how much he hates Do Hyun, his ultimate purpose is to save him in a way by taking his pain.

I know this drama has flaws in its broad strokes in some personalities but it's really the one show that has my interest at the moment.

Kill Me Heal Me has got to be the best prime time drama out there right now. I can't get enough and keep re-watching all the episodes that has aired already. I can't wait til Wednesday to watch a new episode and see what happens! Segi is currently my best personality so far!! I tend to gravitate the bad guys, but I think I like him because he has no care for responsibility and has the CONFIDENCE to stand up for himself. I can't get enough of SeGi and have re-watched episode 10 so many times. Luff luff Ji Sung, Lee Bo Young is so lucky or Ji sung is so lucky to have Lee Bo young!

where do you see confidence? the more the show advances the more we see fear and insecurity in the child-man Se Gi´s eyes. he has a twisted picture of Do Hyun and sees it very black and white, either one disappears or the other. far from confidence. But I guess Se Gi looks really cool to the Twilight generation.

When I say confidence, I meant that he was able to stand up to the Cousin, the Grandma and the Mother. He also knows that he is good looking and struts at the building.

I am one of the few that haven't watched any of the "Twilight" movies, as well, it didn't appeal to me. SeGil appeal is that he is very manly, but also very childish at the same time. His personality is black and white because it is the one that remembers all the hurt and abuse, SeGi does not have Cha Do Hyun's reserve, nor Yona's carefree attitude. Like you said, he is a kid that doesn't understand the whole picture, the same with all the alternate personalities, only CDH knows that they can all integrate as one, but the different personalities does not at least not yet.

yeah well I did not mean you were a twilight generation, just in general

yeah, in the office he rocked, but just for a moment

in general I am sort of getting suspicious some of his cool and threats are a bluff. like he says he will but actually won´t. if there weren´t secretary Ahn beside him at that moment, I think he would have lost

sorry about spoilers probably, everyone! just that, ep 10 recap comes at the last minute...

Each time I check back now there is Mr.Shin with his eyes full of tears. Ultimate loneliness. Really making me feel bad for Mr.Shin.

I totally concur with your heaps of praise for Ji Sung's acting & your apt descriptions of what it's like to watch Kill Me, Heal Me:

"hysterics one moment and practically weeping the next..."
"I can’t imagine much better casting for a character with multiple personalities in a drama that has both comedic and melo elements."
"...great acting."
"His turmoil is palpable..."

Le sigh...
However, the one area where I have to disagree with you and some of the other commenters here: "I can’t say it’s as dear to my heart as Healer..."

Thoroughly enjoying KMHM & Punch. The characters & their distinctive personalities, the acting, writing, & overall plotting in both KMHM & Punch genuinely excite me way more than Healer does. Stumbled on the news that Healer is written by Song Ji-Na. The same writer of Faith. Talk about being stunned. Well I am, because I never would have guessed it nor thought that to be the case.

Now, Faith is a drama that is near & dear to my heart!

I loved Faith, though it was nonsense in parts. But hah. Both Faith and Healer seem more like fan fiction based on a real action drama. Faith was saved by the strong OTP chemistry but standing on more solid ground. In Healer it is overly sugar coated. just like Twilight. good enough for anyone who only reads comic books. adolescent literature.

KMHM knows it is camp, and it doesn´t try to camouflage as a really serious drama, there is self-awareness that whatever emotion we show you, buy the ticket, take the ride, but remember it is just a drama. with the music, the clothes, the puns, everything says, don´t take me so damn seriously, but have fun instead. Now that I start to compare, there is something stylistically similar in Se Gi and Ki Chul... lol. Campy overload. But love both.

I watch both Healer and KMHM and I love them both!!!!

For the outstanding acting, KMHM provides Ji Sung to satisfies us.

For the super sweet couple with great mediocre genre, Healer is the true healer...
