Hyde, Jekyll, Me: Episode 6

Yay, I’m happy to report that yesterday’s episode wasn’t a fluke—it may have taken two weeks for Hyde, Jekyll, Me to find its rom-com center, but now that our hero has softened, the romantic development is actually coming along. It’s not that I didn’t have faith that Seo-jin would become likable, but there’s SUCH a difference between tolerating a fussy grumpypants while he’s going through his jackass phase, and enjoying every minute of hilarity when he’s in denial about his feelings and acting out like a teenager. Seo-jin, meet Jealousy. Jealousy, meet your new best friend.

EPISODE 6 RECAP

Bolstered by liquid courage, Hana tells Robin (or, as we know, Seo-jin pretending to be Robin) that she likes him. Seo-jin wears his shock right there on his face, and she starts to second-guess the declaration.

She yanks the blanket over her head and runs away before she dies of embarrassment right then and there, and she stands in the yard thinking she must have gone crazy to do something like that.

She confers with Ming-ki and Jackson, the farm’s resident animals, and thinks that her heart is going to beat right out of her chest. At the fire, Seo-jin clutches at his heart too, shocked that it’s beating so quickly. He orders it to stop (then amends the order, realizing that he doesn’t want to die, heh).

In the morning, Hana wakes up to the mortifying memory of last night and buries herself under the blanket again. Her friend Jin-ju asks jokingly if she made a drunken confession to Robin or something, only to meet Hana’s eyes an realize she did just that.

To make matters worse, maknae Eun-chang comes in with a note from Seo-jin-as-Robin, that he left on his own early this morning. Ouch. Hana runs out to the field to have a good stompy scream, and Jin-ju sizes up the situation quickly: Hana thought Robin was a nice guy, but he turned out to be a bad guy.

Seo-jin is already on his way back to Seoul, and as he changes back into his buttoned-up Seo-jin uniform, Secretary Kwon glances at him curiously, wondering how he managed to pull off the charade without getting caught. He asks if anything noteworthy happened, and Seo-jin flashes to Hana’s confession but says that nothing did.

He starts coughing, and in the circus van, Hana starts wheezing as well. Uh-oh, matching colds? Jin-ju spends the whole ride dogging Robin for his inability to reject Hana’s confession in person, which she extends to the entire male population.

Seo-jin makes it to his board meeting without a hitch, and afterwards Chairman Dad confronts him about bringing Hana into his house and not being careful. Mom suggested that they trust Seo-jin because he’s changed, but Dad is as blunt as ever and says to Seo-jin’s face that he can’t be trusted: “You’re still a scared and fragile little boy.”

Geez, Dad, ever wonder where his psychological issues come from? But Seo-jin has changed, and counters, “That might be so, but have you forgotten—the person who rescued that scared and fragile little boy wasn’t you, father, but me.”

We get another flash of Little Seo-jin in a Santa hat, his scream being stifled as he’s dragged away. Seo-jin tells his father that as of that day, he loves himself more than Dad does, and now he looks after himself. He takes it a step further and declares, “I think of no one else but me.”

Dr. Tae-joo gets a call from Detective Na, who’s made some headway on the case. He says he’s got a good lead on their prime suspect, and though we don’t hear the name, Tae-joo freezes and we see Glasses Strangler (CT technician Ahn Sung-geun) sitting behind him, waiting to begin a therapy session. Oh. Crap.

Tae-joo casually answers with a non sequitur, and Detective Na is sharp enough to ask if Glasses Strangler is there with him now. He tells Tae-joo to hold tight and races over. But when Tae-joo turns around, the creepy killer is standing right behind him. Tae-joo has the worst poker face, and the killer immediately knows that he’s been found out.

But he says it isn’t over: “That bastard forgot, but I remember everything. All I have are my memories. Forgiveness shouldn’t be given.” He rides off on his motorcycle, and when we cut back to the apartment, Tae-joo is lying on the floor surrounded by glass. Ack, not Dr. Tae-joo!

Thankfully he blinks awake. He’s bleeding from the head but seems okay, and he calls Detective Na to tell him that the suspect is on the run. The call comes just in time for Detective Na to spot the motorcycle leaving the building, and he gives chase.

Backup arrives but the chase goes on for a while, and Detective Na calls to warn Seo-jin that he thinks the killer is headed right for Wonderland. They assume he’s coming for Hana, which makes sense, but now I’m beginning to wonder if Seo-jin wasn’t the target all along.

Seo-jin runs out of there right away to go track down Hana at the circus venue, and Secretary Kwon stutters after him that he could’ve been the one to go. Seo-jin actually hurries, out of concern for someone else (though obviously he’d never admit it), and is relieved to find Hana blowing bubbles on the stage. He barks at her to answer her phone no matter what she’s doing at all times, sounding a little like an angry boyfriend.

He tells her that the killer is on the run, and takes her back home where they’re to stay until the coast is clear. She says that once he’s caught, she’ll pack her bags and move out, as promised.

Seo-jin doesn’t look nearly as happy as he should, and he and Hana are both reserved as they return to their rooms. Hana decides that moving out is for the best and decides to pack right away, though she can’t reach her suitcase. Seo-jin hears a crash and comes in to find her lying on the floor after a failed attempt to pull her suitcase down, and she’s a little impressed when he retrieves it for her handily. Show-off.

He’s adorably awkward around her today, and he breaks the silence by complaining about the dust in the room and opening her window. But as soon as he does, a big gust of wind sends Robin’s storyboard sketches flying out, and she screams and runs down to collect them.

They’re all over the front lawn, and Hana crouches down to carefully dust off each one as she picks them up, grumbling that nothing’s going right for her lately. Seo-jin follows her out and asks why she doesn’t just redraw them. She just snaps that some people have circumstances that they can’t speak of, not that he would ever know.

He just quietly starts helping her, and once they’re back in her room with all the pages, he asks if the story is about a stalker and if it’s appropriate for children. Ha. She explains that the basic story is about a boy who goes to a bridge every night and stands on the ledge, contemplating a jump (that would be Seo-jin, though she thinks it’s Robin).

Seo-jin gets defensive, wondering where she heard this story, and assumes that Robin is the one who told her. (He still has no idea that she was there every night on the bridge.) But Hana just tells him not to mention Robin again—that’s his rule anyway, and she’s going to abide by it now.

He thinks back to her confession to “Robin” and him weaseling out with a pathetic note, and says quietly that that’s a good idea before walking out. Hee, there is a definite smirk on his face as he’s walking away.

Secretary Kwon calls from the police station with good news: The suspect has been captured and Dr. Kang is still alive. The cops head out to find her, and Seo-jin breathes a sigh of relief.

Hana decides to break the silence and sends Robin a text. But Seo-jin is still awake when he sees Robin’s phone buzzing repeatedly, and he chides Hana for hanging on when she seemed like she was going to make a clean break.

He puts the phone back down since he doesn’t know Robin’s lock code to read the message anyway, but then two seconds later he’s back, contemplating what the code might be. He tries a few that don’t work, and he walks away wondering what on earth he’s doing. But then he’s back again to try a different combo, and then another. This is so great.

In no time he’s become obsessed with unlocking the phone, and proceeds to MacGyver a fingerprint pattern off of the screen using packing tape. Hahahaha. He looks like a crazypants… which would explain the crazy pants he’s wearing.

When that doesn’t work, he goes to his batcave to dig through security footage until he can catch Robin on camera unlocking his phone. I’m so embarrassed for you right now. He finally gets it and unlocks the phone, and finds a string of messages from Hana admitting that she drank too much and went overboard last night.

She says that Robin should take some of the blame too, because he’s so good to her that she misunderstands his intentions all the time and even confessed her feelings. She asks him to forget last night and for them to act comfortable around each other in the future. He contemplates the texts for a long moment, and then erases them. Omo. Hana sees that “Robin” has read her texts, but there’s no reply.

Woo-jung gets it into her oppa-loving head that the best way to muscle in on Hana and Robin’s relationship is to join Wonderland’s circus, so she gets her college cheerleading squad to prepare an audition routine.

Meanwhile, evil (but still totally ineffectual) cousin Seung-yeon gets Woo-jung’s attention by posting her photo with Robin online, with his face blurred out. She demands her photo back and Seung-yeon complies, using the chance to ask about their relationship.

Woo-jung happily lies that Robin is her boyfriend, and that they go back ten years. HA. Seung-yeon gapes, jumping to the conclusion that Seo-jin has made up a fake identity to keep a second girlfriend on the side, and has been dating her since she was a pre-teen. Gross.

Robin wakes up in bed, and the last thing he remembers is the car accident, so he calls Secretary Kwon to find out what happened. He busts out laughing when he hears that Seo-jin had to pretend to be him for a night, complete with contorting that face of his into a smile.

He knows Seo-jin’s personality enough to know he’d be careful enough not to get caught, though he does worry that he made Robin look foolish in front of Hana. But there are no messages for him in the batcave, so Robin assumes that nothing major happened.

Hana rolls around in bed trying to ignore her phone, and chants to herself that Robin is out of her life as of now, and that if she ever goes running to him again, she isn’t her father’s daughter. She can’t even finish the sentence before her phone chimes with a text from Robin, and in the same breath she apologizes to her father before reaching over.

Her heart beats rapidly just thinking about seeing Robin again, and she tells it to calm down before peeking around the corner. Robin is fixing his old car in the garage, and her heart beats out of her chest as soon as she sees him.

He smiles widely and wraps her in a blanket by the fire, which of course makes her think about them sharing a blanket the night before. She gets her hopes up, but Robin keeps talking without mentioning her confession or the texts.

He asks carefully if he made any mistakes last night, and she asks if he doesn’t remember anything. Her wording hints at drinking too much, so Robin rolls with that and says he drank way too much. She still wonders why he ignored her texts, but he pours on the aegyo to ask her to forget it all. It puts her on guard (that he might be a player), but she agrees.

Yoo Jae-ha’s “Because I Love You” plays on the radio, and Robin begins to sing along to the opening lyrics, which describe misunderstanding a look in a girl’s eyes and being made a fool the second she smiled at him. Of course, he has no idea that there’s a double meaning in the words for Hana, and as he sings while smiling at her, she concludes that she’s being rejected.

In the morning, Secretary Kwon delivers the bad news that Dr. Kang still hasn’t been found, though he says that Detective Na seems certain that she is alive. Seo-jin snaps at him for not getting more details, though they’re headed to the station anyway, so that Hana can identify the suspect.

Secretary Kwon mentions that she seems to have a cold, and by the time she gets in the car, his box of emergency medicine is at the ready. She rifles through the massive stash of pills, and Seo-jin asks brusquely what her symptoms are before selecting two kinds and handing her a bottle of water to take with her.

At the police station, Dr. Tae-joo and Seo-jin accompany Hana as she looks through the two-way mirror into the interrogation room where Glasses Strangler is being interrogated. She wrings her hands nervously, and Seo-jin clocks her fear.

Detective Na tells her to take her time, and though she knows that the suspect can’t see through the glass, it looks like he’s staring right at her, which is creepy to say the least. She steadies herself and focuses on his face, and finally feels confident that this is the man who launched the mirror ball at her from the rafters.

The detective on the other side is told to take him away, but at the last second, Glasses Strangler wriggles free and launches himself at the glass. Hana panics and lets out a scream, shaking like a leaf in terror. The suspect looks pleased to have gotten that reaction, and smiles as he’s dragged away.

Tae-joo comes up behind Hana and covers her eyes, and the look on Seo-jin’s face is priceless. You are so jealous. She calms down, though she’s still sniffling back tears, and Seo-jin belatedly stretches out his hand towards her and ekes out hesitantly, “Are you okay…”

But before he can make contact, Tae-joo is already leading her out of the room. Seo-jin just stands there, hand outstretched, watching her walk away.

Seo-jin asks Detective Na to please hurry the investigation to find Dr. Kang, and he in turn asks Seo-jin if he’s going to stop bugging Hana now. He totally nags Seo-jin for not treating her with more care, and Seo-jin is doubly annoyed to find Secretary Kwon smiling in agreement.

Seo-jin grumbles that she’s taking so long with Tae-joo, and watches warily as Tae-joo offers to keep treating her until her traumatic memories are dealt with. He notes that she smiles at Tae-joo warmly, and listens in as Tae-joo tells her that her treatment should’ve come first, rather than forcing her to face the culprit like this.

Seung-yeon comes by the station to ask Detective Na about Dr. Kang’s case, feigning worry over “our Dr. Kang” and Seo-jin’s treatment being interrupted. He fishes to see if Detective Na has her case files, but he’s told that Dr. Tae-joo has them.

On the way back, Seo-jin tells Secretary Kwon to find a specialist for Hana’s treatment—someone who isn’t Dr. Tae-joo. HEE. Seo-jin offers to pay for her continued therapy, wondering why she never asked him when she clearly needs it. She asks if he would’ve heard her if she had, and says she’s moving out anyway and doesn’t need his help.

But Seo-jin tells her that the case isn’t over until Dr. Kang is found, which means she isn’t going anywhere. Pffft, your excuses are getting pretty slim, buddy. She sighs and thinks to herself that the twin brothers are more alike than she thought, flip-flopping and playing a girl hot and cold, just like a player.

Hana gets a call from Seung-yeon (who runs the hotel portion of the company) asking her to meet to discuss a circus performance at the hotel. Seo-jin is standing next to her when she gets the call and finds the whole thing suspicious, but she goes to the meeting alone, happy to discuss another venue for the new show she’s producing.

Seung-yeon introduces himself as Seo-jin’s cousin, which she hadn’t known until now, and thanks her for helping out with Dr. Kang’s case. He asks if she knows Robin too, and Hana is taken aback at the question. She pretends not to know what he’s talking about, but he notices that she seemed to recognize the name.

He asks her to prepare a presentation about the new show idea, and Hana says she has some materials with her now to show him. He leads her to the conference room to watch it on a big screen, when suddenly Seo-jin storms into the room (followed by Seung-yeon’s girlfriend), just in time to find Seung-yeon’s hand hovering near Hana’s back.

Seung-yeon asks what he doing here, and Seo-jin shoots back: “And what is your business with our kid?” Hana’s eyes practically pop out of her head, and she thinks to herself, “He called me ‘our kid’… damn, that’s embarrassing.” Haha. I guess not everyone is Jang Geu-rae.

Seo-jin gets all territorial about the circus belonging to Wonderland’s history, which by the way was stuff he never even knew before Hana’s angry speech the first time they met. He says that the proper order is for her to consult him about concerts in other venues, and wrist-grabs her out of Seung-yeon’s reach.

Outside, she wriggles free and asks why he’s in Chief Oh cosplay all of a sudden, and he’s all, “Who’s Chief Oh?” She waves his lack of drama knowledge aside and asks since when she’s his kid, and he totally flits back to her drunken confession. Yup, that’d be since when, all right.

To Hana, all he says is to be wary of Seung-yeon, because this isn’t about the circus—it’s about Seo-jin, and Seung-yeon’s endless competition with him. She insists on finding that out for herself, though he warns her that she’s just being used.

Woo-jung and her cheerleading squad try out for the Wonder Circus, and every last one of the guys on the panel is smitten with her, especially maknae Eun-chang. He even swoons when she shows off a wrestling move that sends him flying to the ground.

She gets hired, and Hana hands her a contract and asks why she wants to join the circus. Woo-jung doesn’t even pretend to hide her motivations, and asks when Robin is coming by. Hana doesn’t know if he’ll ever come back, and Woo-jung asks if he disappeared again.

She tells Hana that Robin does this all the time—save a girl, make her swoon, then vanish. She calls him a player and a master of the push-and-pull game, and Hana’s heart sinks to hear how routine this is for him. Woo-jung tells Hana to give up before she turns into a slave like her, and says that Robin is a heartbreaker.

Woo-jung is obviously laying it on thick to get rid of her competition, but then she eavesdrops as Hana wails to her friend Jin-ju about her stupid drunken confession and rejection. Woo-jung beams, realizing that this will be easier than she thought.

In his office, Seo-jin thinks back to seeing Hana so frightened at the police station, and he mutters aloud that if she was really that scared, she should’ve told him. Aw. Secretary Kwon stares back and says he isn’t scared, and Seo-jin breaks out of his reverie and wonders when he got here.

Seung-yeon visits Dr. Tae-joo pretending to need therapy, and describes Seo-jin’s new uncharacteristic behavior as if it were his own. At first Tae-joo says there’s nothing wrong with showing a nicer softer side, but then he asks the all-important question—does he remember being a totally different version of himself?

Seung-yeon asks why that’s important, and Tae-joo says that if he has no memory of these events, he could have borderline personality disorder, or in more extreme cases, dissociative identity disorder.

Tae-joo says that the likeliest cause is a traumatic incident in childhood, and Seung-yeon remembers that Seo-jin was kidnapped as a child. Tae-joo says that one way to cope with something like that is to create a second self who never experienced said trauma.

Robin wakes up that evening to the sound of his phone ringing—it’s Woo-jung, calling to say that she knows all about Robin rejecting all other girls because he really loves her. He asks what she’s talking about, and later she recounts the story to her father, insisting that Robin turned Hana down because he realized his feelings for Woo-jung. And ha, Eun-chang is there in the café just idly smiling at her. Someone’s got a crush.

Robin races into the café and demands an explanation, looking pretty frantic. So with her dad by her side, Woo-jung reluctantly tells Robin everything that she overheard Hana crying about. When she sees his concern, she realizes that he must’ve forgotten, suddenly feeling bad for Hana. Aw.

Now that he knows what happened, Robin sits there stunned, thinking back to the moment when he came upstairs to find Hana drunkenly slurring to Woo-jung that she doesn’t want to be the girl that people laugh at anymore—she wants to be the girl laughing: “And Robin made me laugh.”

He runs out of there and searches everywhere for her, at home and at Wonderland. He finally finds her lingering outside the park, and tells her that he remembers everything now. He apologizes for leaving alone that day and for not remembering, and asks why she didn’t just curse at him instead.

He knows he seems crazy, but he swears that he didn’t remember, and wasn’t purposely giving her the brush-off. He asks her to trust him, and she says she wants to. She admits to trusting him and leaning on him, which is why she came to like him… “And that’s why I jumped to the mistaken conclusion that we felt the same way.” She starts to walk away, but he reaches out to hold her back: “Who said it was mistaken?” He apologizes again, but she pulls her hand away and asks about the text messages—even if he forgot the drunken confession, he could’ve responded to her texts instead of making her wait.

He has no idea about the texts, and even searches his phone right in front of her. But it all sounds like excuses to her, and she asks if he erased them. She starts to wonder which of his sides is sincere, and decides that she’d rather believe that she went overboard because she’s been having a tough time lately and needed someone to lean on. She says that she’s sorry for being a burden and giving him any discomfort, and walks away.

Robin stands there for a long while, totally dazed, and then his grip tightens around his phone in fury as he snarls in head, “Gu Seo-jin!” He races home to the batcave and starts recording an angry message. He knows the situation couldn’t have been avoided, but screams at Seo-jin for erasing those texts just to stick it to him.

We cut over to Seo-jin, who’s watching the message in the morning with a shit-eating grin on his face. The usual roles are totally reversed, and now Robin is the one stewing in fury, while Seo-jin sits back feeling satisfied with himself. Robin demands an apology RIGHT NOW, and Seo-jin answers with a smirk: “I. Am. A-pol-o-gizing. Right. Now.” LOL. Caption: Pandora’s biggest mistake—she shouldn’t have known that a thing as dangerous as Pandora’s Box existed in the world at all.

In a short epilogue back at the retreat, Seo-jin chops wood while Hana asks the ajusshi who owns the farmhouse to come back and help them at the circus like he used to when her dad was around. He seems hesitant but she won’t take no for an answer (and we saw him at the auditions, so he must’ve said yes).

COMMENTS

I love this reversal. Things are so much funnier when Seo-jin is mucking up the works for Robin. And not only that—he seems to actively enjoy life when he’s found a petty way to make Robin suffer. His gleeful little smirk is so perfect. Obviously Seo-jin is a long ways off from acknowledging any attachment he might have to Hana, but that makes the current jealousy and denial stage more enjoyable, and I’m fine with spending lots and lots of time watching the current dynamic unfold. Things finally clicked into place when Seo-jin’s character softened, because up until now, he didn’t feel anything for Hana, so I didn’t feel anything for their interactions.

But now he’s going out of his way to be considerate, worrying about her when she’s not around, making up excuses for her to stay in the house, getting jealous of Robin, Tae-joo, even Seung-yeon… it’s so cute. And now that I have a romance to root for, I found myself tensing up when Robin ran after Hana at the end of the episode, and wishing that they wouldn’t make up. I know Robin is the one she likes, but Seo-jin is the one I want her to fall for. There’s probably going to be a lot more back and forth for this love triangle, but already I’m feeling very protective of Seo-jin’s feelings (yunno, the ones he doesn’t know he has yet).

Tae-joo’s growing role in the story is another happy development, though I wonder where we’re going with Glasses Strangler now that he’s caught. Because so far, he’s the only villain worth anything in this drama, ineffectual assassination attempts notwithstanding. Seung-yeon is too ridiculous to consider scary, though at least he actually discovered something potentially damaging to Seo-jin in this episode. For now, I just hope he’s too stupid to put the pieces together. I’m not really ready for the truth to come out yet—the twin/double-life hijinks are the highlight, so the longer we delay the truth, the better. (Though I do wish that the show made a bigger deal of clues like Robin getting a cut on his forehead or Seo-jin catching a cold—wasted potential, I tell you.)

Seo-jin’s jealousy—and ensuing comedy, of course—was the highlight of the episode, but it was his growing genuine concern for Hana that finally gave us a moment of sincerity that I desperately needed to be on Seo-jin’s side. He’s always been sincere before this, but only with regards to himself and whatever benefited him the most. Everything and everyone else was secondary, and he was always upfront about that. But with Hana he begins to break from his old patterns, and now he’s actively interfering in her life, worrying over her welfare, and butting in on Robin’s potential relationship with her (and enjoying it, which is key). Maybe now that Robin is back and here to stay for the time being, Seo-jin doesn’t need to be so in control and live like a monk anymore. Attachments could be formed. Fun could be had. I can think of a way or two.

I always knew he'd prove all the naysayers wrong, Bennie is a deliverer! He always always pulls through...Those who doubted him, his logic behind choosing this script over THAT script... bla bla bla ...All I'll say is ...IN YOUR FACE!

Bennie Oppa YOU WILL ALWAYS ROCK!

Why do u call him "Bennie"?
Hyun BIN, Binnie.

The story is very simple. There isn't any intrigue for those who like intrigue.

But I can stare at Robin's aegyo without a sound track, and thank God that I'm alive.

"aegyo"=cuteness, being a cutie,

e.g. around 30min mark, Robin is sitting w Hana in the garage in front of the fire, and begging her to let it go this time, whatever he did wrong, and going, "Nae? Nae? Nae?" with that smile on that face. My goodness.

At that pt, I Both thought HB doesn't need a script or dialogue to make hearts flutter the world over, And that this writer shouldn't be forgiven for giving Binnie such a nonsense script to act with, and let him end up w these lo ratings he that totally doesn't deserve!

Agree with u he deserves a much better script. He's so good. U can tell when he's robin, SJ or SJ pretending to be Robin. Any possibility they change the writer half way?

0

Oh, that'd be so nice if they do that! It's not unheard of, but doesn't happen often either. We can pray.
As I said yesterday, he's making a big ruckus about being plagiarised by the KMHM team, calling attn to himself, which seems pretty unabashed (what I really mean is shameless).

0

Binnie is awesome cute doing the "neh neh" aeygo but mature me prefer the snarkly smirk seojin. Oh yeah he is smexy.

Btw it's the writer of the webtoon that called out kmhm writers for plagiarism not the screenwriters of the drama. I don't blame the writer, his story concept is good, it's the adaption that sucks!

Thank you! As much as I am enjoying this show, there are somethings that are just beginning to bug me. It's gotten better with each episode but that last one about the text kinda irked me. No, it definitely irked me. Even if I understand why it was done, I can't get past Robin's inability to say someone must of deleted it ( basically defend himself more). It doesn't help that in my subs he called her 'my girl' instead of 'our kid' and did not have any mention about the amazing Chief Oh in the subtitles. So while I am finding so flaws in the script/editing/whatever I am still really enjoying the dynamic of Seo Jin fighting with Robin.

Just because some people don't share the same enthusiasm like you about a drama, why do they automatically become haters?!

I personally avoid commenting on a thread of a drama I don't love as I don't want to ruin the fun for those who are enjoying it, but honestly, is the comment section ONLY for ravings/positive feedbacks?! There is no place for constructive criticism?! Why is that as soon as someone criticizes a drama, even in polite words and not showing disrespect to the fans, S/he becomes a target of the others?!

I like HB and never doubted his ability to delivers the roles, but I still think he should've chosen a better script.I'm still watching the show because of him, but unlike the most other viewers here, I don't see any improvement in the narrative quality or the production except HB.My problem is with the show and the team working behind it, not with the people who disagree with me and love the drama.Sorry if I still sound like a hater.

I almost never comment on anything I don't enjoy other than maybe to say that it was unenjoyable or a bit boring...I'm only invested in ppl and things that truly move me so I reserve all my energy to either cheer them on or rave about them.

I am not putting anyone down for expressing their dismay and dislike of what they don't enjoy, my comment was geared towards those who slaughtered that drama in it's first few episodes and are now saying they were a little rash in making such haste judgement...If you dislike this drama for whatever reason, and continue to dislike it no matter how much improvement has come along, then it's your absolute right to voice your thoughts...My comments are in no way aimed at you or folks like you..I hope you find something that satisfies your taste and you'll cherish!

Hey Yuna,

Don't get me wrong, i totally believe that people are entiled to their opinions and thought about kdramas and pretty much anything in life! Nothing will ever improve without feedback. However, just like DD my comment was about people who literally just hated on HJM, and never gave it a real honest shot! And if you gave it a real shot and still don't like it, i respect that! There have been plenty of dramas that i've watched that caused me to wonder why its so popular.

Sorry if i caused you to feel targeted by having a different opinion.

As for the script, I am wondering if they changed some things since some of it flows really well and other parts just stick out like sore thumbs.

Ppl come to a drama w different expectations. Those who are new to KD and those who have watched a lot of KDs see diff things. You said that you've only been watching KDs for 1-2 months, so everything may be new n exciting to you, whereas ppl who have seen the same setups 20 times already would feel differently. Age and life experience also make a difference. So no need to get too upset or "screw the naysayers". ;)
You watch, you enjoy, you love Binnie till hell freezes over, and have fun.

Others react to what they see, and that's their fun, or lack of it.
Hyun Bin rocks, but if the script was better, he'd rock even more, is what a lot of ppl are saying in essence.

@ KDaddict I agree with you when you are new to K-dramas everything seems exciting but as you watch more your expectations change, I know this from personal experience. My friend who got me into K-dramas had been watching them for over two years before I did. My first drama was "Big" and I remember being so exited over it and waiting every week for the new episodes, when I had a marathon with her, she said that the drama had dragged, I was so surprised and didn't share her opinion. But then that ending man...

Hi KDaddict, first let me just clarify I did NOT say "screw the naysayers" if you look at my comment above I just said "in your face" as in ...Plz don't be too quick to judge a book by it's cover!

I call him Bennie becz I am new as you know and didn't associate the "I" with the "bIn" :P So you can say it's a little misconception :)

I agree that since I'm new to KDs things may seem shiny and exciting, but I'm no where near new to cinema/acting/ or being able to judge a good and fun entrainment experience. Trust me it doesn't need an expert to be able to tell if something works, is fun, or it isn't...KDs or otherwise. However, I'm nether a film student, script writer, or film director, so I don't dare comment on such elements as I have no experience to do so, I only comment on matters of performance and heart of any one given entertainment medium.

As for ppl on here and the Netizens community going overboard with their criticism of this and other decent dramas, in this particular case I could honestly only associated it to their love of a "certain" other drama and wanting to knock this one down so as to remove the competition (this was evident from all the comparisons in the first couple of episodes). I hated that it drove the ratings down and as a fan of "Binnie" :) it really hurt me! If these ppl were qualified film/script writing/acting critics and went on and on about lacking depth, silliness, pointlessness of the script and the execution, I won't have a problem with it...But TBCH most the hate came from ppl who after watching countless drama seem to fool themselves that they can be in a position to judge these aspects when in fact the same ppl give a pass on the same things they criticize when it involves something that is "hyped" or everyone seem to want to love.

The fact that I'm new doesn't mean I'm unable to see a quality performance, even among the crapiest of executions.
Also, just because a plot device was used many times over doesn't mean it will be the same every time it's used. Take for expl the classic plays, or any play for that matter...You'll see it hundreds of times, same plot, same troupes...Different execution...and Voilà, it all seems different no? And one last thing, why do ppl have to watch every drama that is ever made? I get that ppl watch becz they both have the time to do so and are interested, but too much viewing of the same or similar things can actually become kill joy for any new experience that may shares similar storylines but much better execution.

Also i don't argue that things could've been tighter and better presented I'm simply saying that if you want to critique something please critique it for the right and valid reasons not because you have ulterior movies as in "keeping up with the hype" or trying to protect something you love from being overrun by the shiny new toy!

I apologize I'm normally a girl with few words I don't particularly enjoy...

I knew it wasn't you who said "Screw the naysayers". No problem. I just mean, in general, don't take it too hard.

Yes, there are times when some ppl dislike (maybe even strongly) a drama purely bcos someone Other than their loved one stars in it, e.g. some Lee Min Ho's fans not liking a Kim Soo Hyun's drama or vice versa, (just as an example), but that is Not Always the case. This most likely isn't one of them.

Other than that, welcome to KDs. It's an addicting hobby. Have fun for many years to come.

Thanks KDaddict, I think I'll follow in the footsteps of your addiction :) happy watching!

YES! YES! AND YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS DRAMA ROCKS BIG-TIME!!!!!!

I want to personally ask all naysayers, as in meet them face-to-face, and ask them this question, "What is wrong with you?" or "Have you watched it? I mean really???" This is super great and MAYBE, just maybe, they're watching a different drama????

Because this drama rocks the socks and I am obsessed with it, and I didn't plan to be obsessed with it. I was, in fact, SKEPTICAL about this! I wanted to HATE this without even seeing it, because of a devoted love to a similar drama. But look at this drama... how it rocks... How it PROVES and SHOWS us that it's GREAT! Ha! Naysayers, pls meet me at the bridge where Seo-jin wants to jump!

I LOVE THIS DRAMA! Daebak!

The injustice our poor binnie was facing.
Going on about how it's just a Hyun bin show,is it his fault his awesome !
Another High five !
I'm continuing to love this show, it would have been dizzying if not for his acting ,I hope Robin turns more into Seo jin and vise versa Minus the door doofy smile, I like the smirk more.Either way I get dimples, beauty everywhere that and Tae joo's tea set,I was in pain when I saw the pretty kettle on the floor in pieces (wow I'm getting old if I'm thinking about this instead of sweet potato bleeding on the floor).

I know ugh I was really upset for his sake, I mean he did say he's coming back with a lighthearted drama for his fans after his serious film last year. So for the life of me I couldn't understand the backlash, specifically cuz it mainly focused on it being a "lighthearted" drama lol I was like hello that's what it's supposed to be ppl, if you want something more serious then by all means go watch, stop crapping on something that never promised to be anything else but what it is!!

I hope ratings improve cuz from my understanding that if ratings are very low actors don't get paid? (worlds within) so I'd hate for "the baseless hate" to be reason all ppl involved go home empty handed, also I'm sure HB would be very upset that his comeback drama didn't resonate with his audience, that is probably the most that will dishearten him!

I don't think the one you said naysayers comment about doubting his ability, he is a good actor
they just put out that the script on other drama is better than HJM and I personally see how they see that

the script is indeed better on other drama and they wasn't complaining because that other drama get a great actor that suit it

what they put out about HB choosing this script is how the script turn out wasn't engaging and the moment feel lost for what it is for, and they just do filler,
HB got lots of offer and he choose this drama but they always praise his acting,

easy story and enjoyable light story is great but HJM neither of that, it get better each ep but it still not great ep, it just getting its pace, which should be done earlier

this drama is ok, but so many time it just wasting it screen time and still not enough story to deliver,

it wasn't about being an old or new drama fan, engaging story is engaging and get people hooked even its still used old kdrama formula
but if the dialogue is useless and there's so many misleading things happen and that make them feel bored, that's it, it just that, it get them bored and they don't need someone to show on their face how it should be an enjoyable scene or love the things happen

the fact they watched and comment/critique is not make them hater
no drama is flawless but the drama need to face the fact about how the scene is not working for some people

and for chronological reference, the other drama also have train-wreck disappointed prejudice before it air and much more when HB wasn't the lead, but it turn out greater than any other have expected to be and that is their story so far

I never called anyone a hater dear, please read my comment carefully I called them naysayers as in those who simply criticized it without much basis IMO...Again and as i just posted, the drama was meant to be a very lighthearted romcom. It never promised to be complex or deep and thoughtful...most criticism came in the form of "how can they pull that gorilla scene off, where did the ropes come from, how could they fly from building to building on these ropes??!!" And such not very important matters...The drama is a fantasy romance, it's not claiming to be rocket science, one must enjoy the story without too much nitpicking in these particular genre and IMO suspension of belief is a must!

In my limited experience, I've seen countless dramas with the most pathetic plot devices, and so many plot holes they can compete with swiss cheese. Yes that bothered me, but I've soon came to learn that since most KDs are half assed whether it be the live shoots, the overworked production crew/actors, the low budgets or the saturation of trends and storylines...I learned to forgive many of these shortcomings for the sake of the big picture...I would love to come across even 1 drama that was absolutely perfect from every aspect but alas that hasn't happened nor do I expect it to...I've learned to appreciate the most enjoyable elements and simply overlook all the cheese and overused troupes...I hope ppl do the same, makes the experience much more tolerable!

Cheers!

i see the one after your comment said hater

i think the people who complaint wasn't about how light the drama material or how drama supposed to be emotionally hurt
but for them, some scene is not necessary and the story is just that (wasted because has much more potential)

for the scientific things, it is nitpicking but some maybe really bother about it because some demand quality of understanding the situation and not all buffy hope in the show they watch and hope for

for plot device or budgeting, or schedule, it can't be reason to cover weak plot or weak story,

my personal opinion, I like that you like it and enjoy it better than me
cause for me the story is not engaging because the plot/script is weak and I am a person who enjoy watching slice of life anime
for me, light story doesn't mean cheap and cheap/cheesy doesn't always mean weak
HJM is just between the line for want to be light and want to be enjoyable in me (didn't like or dislike, i simply watched)

what I want to said is the other drama is better at script and hyun bin doing great job but working alone, the effort in other aspect is not balance so far
I still have hope for the drama, honestly I never think about its plot
but the people who critique does have a point to be respected and not at all to be the one who made the drama look bad because the devote to other drama
good things will acknowledge as good so please respect the criticism

Yeah I know what you're saying, I have noticed that most drama watchers are very particular about many things...things that I really don't go into, as in the technicalities of the work itself...I either enjoy something despite it's flaws or dislike it even with it's impeccable execution...I know this comes from years of watching many dramas with similar issues so I am not faulting anyone who's complaining about things they didn't enjoy in HJ&M...I just hated that most totally panned it from the first moment they saw it without even giving it a fair chance to prove if it was a total disaster or a mild one...Anyway I hope since you don't like HJ&M that when HB comes back with another drama, it'll satisfy your drama buds :)

@ Ara..

Well said...

I don't understand why some people cannot let people voice their opinion.

I like Hyun Bin and he's an amazing actor, but the script so far has not done justice to the drama.

The problem is that Hyun Bin and his agency made such a big deal of distancing themselves from KMHM at the point of even embarrassing that production team.

It seems as though the script for HJI was gold and created great expectations from everyone...which unfortunately have not been yet met.

Some people are actually feeling sorry for Hyun Bin that his talent is being wasted in this drama, but so far I have not read any comment criticizing his acting.

Most people are saying that he's the saving grace of the drama.

But in my 3 years of watching dramas, the SK viewers can be very picky, they gave him a premiere befitting of his celebrity stature with 10% ratings range, but they have not been rewarded as yet because the ratings keep going down.

I think they are around 6%, which is not good for Hyun Bin's caliber.

I always hear people say that they don't care about ratings as long as they are enjoying the drama, but I can assure you that that celebrity that you are enjoying watching CARES about ratings, so if you are someone's fan, you too should care about ratings, because your Oppa does.

Some celebrities openly admit that low ratings affect them but other don't, but they do affect them...Some would tell you they were depressed at the end of the drama...etc...

they are humans after all and this is their bread and butter... and it is also their image on the line... which is their livelihood...and it can take a beating with situations like these.

If this drama does not improve in ratings, Hyun Bin might take a long time to come back to dreamland and I'm sure his fans will be wondering why.

A good example is Gong Yoo with his drama comeback that was the disaster BIG...ever since, he's been doing movie after movie and avoiding dramas like the plague.

With a movie, u get the whole script, but with a drama, it's not the case, so it's highly risky.

I hope things work out for Hyun Bin..I'm sure he's paid handsomely, but I bet you that the atmosphere right now is not very rosy in that production team with the dismal ratings.

All the best to them.

That's what I'm saying..Actors live for recognition, that's the reason they went into this profession to be loved, raved about and adored...When a show they invest so much time and work in is panned they must all feel like complete losers somewhere deep inside...This was my biggest disappointment with the low ratings, I felt that it'll be a killer for him since he thought his audience will love and enjoy this long awaited comeback..I won't discuss writing/script or the possibility of change because I really have no clue what was HB's reasoning for choosing this over KMHM's script...Personally tho, I didn't like KMHM tho I only saw 1 epi of it...So in a way i am glad he didn't pick that...Do I love everything about HJ&M? Not really, like his leading lady puts me to sleep and I'm not excited about the couple, but I'm excited to see him and the show has it's good moments and overall good feel so I'm suspending belief, I'm ignoring the leading lady and I'm totally enjoying my Binnie!

Then it puts you in the same position as the Naysayers. Although not for this drama but for KMHM, you've mentioned that you didn't the drama tho you've only watched one ep. In the end, it's just a matter of preferences. Others just simply prefer the storyline over the actors.

I stopped watching HJM, but continued to read the reviews to see if I should have go back but reading the comments made me think otherwise. yes, HB is so great and everyone acknowledges that but not everyone could put a drama just for the sake of watching the actor. That'd be like eating a cake without appretiating the taste but only the decor.

I never doubted him for a minute. The script finally sprang him free and we're seeing the fantastic binnie of old. I actually found myself thinking about him while at work today. And grinning like a fool mind you.

As I love Binnie, and been waiting for his return to dramaland, I certainly wouldn't be able to come up w so much goodness n be as merciful as she is. I want to kill the writer.

But the writer isn't Kim Eun Sook, whose writing somehow riles GF. If it was, the recaps could be much less positive.

I watched the episode first and I really liked it, all except the Dad who I'd rather not see and that annoying director who I want to see fail.I read the recap and I don't see how it's misleading, she's stating facts and not trying to sway opinion. The thing is as this is a blog, their blog, thus expression of how much they liked or didn't like an episode is warranted. Whoever has a problem with this shouldn't read the recaps, I read because I want to know what she thought,I may not always agree with it but I accept it's her opinion.
I didn't even know that there was a way not to like this episode, till I read the comments. Hey, the show may not be perfect, or close to it but binnie is rocking it, so I tend not to notice anything else. I basically did that in my above posts. It's fun for the most part but jarring in a few. Also, personally, I like the bumbling 'evil' cousin. My fav scenes were when Seo Jin was lectured by the cop, playing Macgyver, and anytime Robin and Seo Jin interact. Trite scenes were when little girl over hears about the confession, running off to talk to animals, papers get blown out of window but they go out to get them when the guy hasn't been caught, falling -although is she supposed to be clumsy? - she's a circus performer and it only happens around him, and my biggest one was the misunderstanding at the end. My thoughts haven't changed even after reading the post, but my understanding of two scenes did. Still worth it.

I think the recap can influence how you view a show after you watch it. Not a lover of spoilers, I usually read the recap after I watch the show. With this show for instance, I didn't like it from the jump. It didn't grab me like other shows have/do. So when I read the recap, i was surprised that Gilrfriday liked it, and that made me give it another look. Still not sold but this episode was the most watchable for me.
I think it's safe to say that most of us follow this site because we trust the recappers opinions on dramas. Not to say their word is absolute. For instance, I think Javabeans loved the 3 musketeers but for me it was "meh" at best. While the recap (more like the comments) can influence how we see a show, at the end of the day, what grabs our hearts, grabs our hearts.

Thanks for the recap, GF!

It was so delightful to watch Seojin stewing in jealousy over Robin, Taejoo, and Seungyeon!! XD The whole process of trying to unlock Robin's phone was hilarious!!

I like how Seojin is softening towards Hana bit by bit and showing character development. That scene at the police station finally made him realize just how scary and traumatic this experience is for Hana. And all along, he's only cared about looking for Dr. Kang and find the remedy for himself. I'm glad to see his genuine concern for Hana.

I didn't know that Seojin doesn't know that Hana was on Angel's Bridge with him every night. I thought when Robin told him that she was the one who saved him, he would know already because Robin didn't exist till that moment when Hana was falling into the waters. Then again, that was what triggered his disorder, so maybe he doesn't recall all the details as Seojin.

I felt bad that Robin was clueless to the confession and texts and kept hoping he would realize sooner than later. So, I'm glad he found out from Woojung within this episode instead of having this dragged out with him not knowing anything. I hope he will keep figuring to earn back Hana's trust. The not remembering can be forgivable and believable, but not the erased texts. Great reversal to see Robin unleashing his fury onto Seojin. Can't wait to see more of this! =P

Seungyeon is pretty smart at going to see Taejoo to find out more. Curious what he might do now that he's suspecting Seojin has DID.

This drama was rather ok. I still can't shake the feeling of wanting to kill the writer and PD over the plot but that feeling somewhat subdued thanks to Binnie nailing the roles. However, one thing I really hate about this ep was the cringeworthy bubble scene. Sure it's pretty & "romantic" but you have a killer on the loose here, trying to find the girl he really want to kill & Seo jin frantically looking for her. Plus, there was this suspense music playing only to find the girl playing bubbles on stage. I get that she's oblivious with the whole situation but really, bubbles??? It's not pretty, it's nonsense. Surely you can do better than that! And how about the catch? All of the sudden, they got the suspect after that elaborate chase? Lol. You got the whole police squad looking for him & yet nobody care to show how he got caught after all that suspense? Drama gods, SBS, whoever in charge, pleaseeee change the writer. Poor Binnie!

0

Required fields are marked *

I totally agree with you and try to overlook that scene. It's so nonsensical because it doesn't fit with the story. You just got back from the retreat why would you come playing with bubbles? The new story for the show is not finished, why do you already twirling with bubbles? Ok, you can come to work but it'd be more sensible to work backstage, preparing notes doing accounting whatever. WTH. If I come back from a trip, have a cold, feel horrible from confession go wrong, I wouldn't go mixing water and soap to play bubbles.

Also, I can relate to Seo-Jin's developing feeling for Hana. I can even understand that Hana may fall for Robin. What I don't get is why Robin would like Hana? Because she was there many years ago? Because he thinks she's a reason for him coming out. At best, I can fathom it but it's hardly a romance.

I though so too! I feel like this story never really explore Robin as a character & only solely focuses on Seo jin. Heck, I don't even think there were any development on other characters in this drama other than Seo jin. I've rewatch all the episodes multiple times yet all I get from Robin is that he is nice, kind & reallyyyy loves to show off his dimples (not that I'm complaining!). Other than that, I don't know what to think of him & now all of the sudden he likes Ha Na back?? Da Fuq. I thought he was just being kind to her since she saved him before. I feel like he has no purpose here other than being the nice version of Seo jin. Such a waste

Well Robin did not really get much screen time these two episodes as Seo Jin was there. That is the dilemma of having two of your main characters share a body. They can't be on screen at the same time. So this week was definitely Seo Jin's week to shine. I do wish they would explore Robin a little more next week. Maybe he get's to pretend he is Seo Jin for a day.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

But isn't that exactly Robin's whole character?

Seo-jin is the one who was "on the bridge" and dealt with all the traumatic stuff. He dealt with it by keeping calm, becoming reserved/cold, whatever.

Robin's SOLE thing is to play around, draw comics, smile a lot. He's the 'child' that grew up happily and free. So there isn't much motivation for him to do anything other than play around - there is no story with him, you know? He is hated by his mom & dad or whatever, but as long as he keeps to the rules & keeps the secret, he can play as much as he wishes. There's nothing that he NEEDS to do or solve or find out or etc.

So I dunno about him liking people or what not, but definitely agree with your last part about his having no purpose other than being the 'nice' Seo-jin.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

I agree. Robin's reason for being is to do all the things that Seo Jin wishes he could do but can not due to his 'parents'. (Boy would I like to ring his father's ears.) Robin has no emotional scars, cares, or worries. ( The exact opposite of KMHM) I'm not sure as to why Robin would fall in love with her except he seems very child like; more like a crush on someone who is leading the life he wishes he could. By that I mean, joining the circus, playing with bubbles and laughing.

0

I don't really get that, either. Is it a case of kdrama "our childhood connection makes it inevitable that we will be together"? Or did he imprint on her like a duckling because she's the first person he saw when he came into being? Is it that he's not all that into her, he's just that ridiculously charming and caring to everyone? Because the interactions that we've seen don't explain why he would especially care for her.

All throughout the bubbles scenes, and then later in the house, and then picking up the drawings in the yard, I kept thinking the killer might pop out. It was kind of jarring.

I do enjoy this drama a lot since the last episode. The lead characters have become more lively and less sterile and flat, and there haven't been any equivalents of the first episode's offkey gorilla moments lately.

Glad to see the ship isn't sinking!

Am totally in love with Seo jin's smirk at the end of the episode....and the. Way he ap po lo gi zed was too cuteee....it's funny to see robin getting angry while Seo jin is totally laid back and relaxed....

Hyun bin is so so so cute....

But no chemistry bw the leads and I dont think she is the right match for hyun bin....must have castes somebody else...

Can't wait for the next episode !!!

Seeing Robin crushed look in his meeting with Hana ...plus his facial expression -back in ep5 -when he was apologising for the hoodie joke.... Imagine him when he finds out whatever happened 5 years ago and it's his fault(or accused of it-well you never know if SeoJin was then manipulated to believe so-ok I know I am streching it out ^_^ )

I am a SeoJin shipper but that doesn't mean that I have't been(and will be) like a tennis ball >_< between SeoJin-Robin on emotional level -until these two find the peace they need and become one again ;-)

What I am more curious about is how Hana will fall in love for SeoJin la la la la la *giggles* <3

Thanks for the recap GF. Always the perfect combo of humour and speed! :)

My thoughts exactly. --> "(Though I do wish that the show made a bigger deal of clues like Robin getting a cut on his forehead or Seo-jin catching a cold—wasted potential, I tell you.)" I had really high hopes that the cut on Robin's forehead would have been a bigger deal. :(

Thanks for the recap Girlfriday! I'm really starting to enjoy the show after a very tame 4 episodes. It's heading to a good place and I'm getting what I asked for.

The dilemma of who to ship with Hana is making me laugh a little. Because it feels silly to pick between one person. But all the same, I'm very jump-y when choosing Seo-jin or Robin. I love the former more because he's really showing layers and layers of personality along with engaging me emotionally. I feel Robin lacks a certain complexity to him. He's very one-dimentional and feels flat based on just script. But Hyun Bin really knows how to elevate a boring character into someone I root for.

When Hana and Robin had their 'break-up' scene, I was hoping they'd patch up. Robin looked so heartbroken and helpless. Of course, I'm still in the Seo-jin ship because his 'new best friend' and him have fabulous chemistry haha. The whole phone unlocking scene is so embarrassing I wish he can watch himself in his batcave. Hyun Bin's crazy eyes was just hilarious. Jealous, petty and childish Seo-jin is my new favourite person. I want this behaviour to get worse!

I noticed the PD really likes to make everything look gorgeous. Like the bubbles scene, etc. But instead, he really should just focus on trying to get out more from the other actors instead. I don't understand how Han Ji-min can overact like she was on fire and yet be as lifeless as a desert. It's like watching a bad newbie actress. Her eyes look so barren no matter what scene. I feel she's gotten worse today; how's that even possible?

I'm happy Dr. Tae-joo is getting a bit more screen time although I still don't understand the need for them to cast a big name like Sung Joon. Hopefully the upward trend in terms of quality continues. I want to be here for the whole drama rather than just one person.

I also applaud girlfriday for staying on the high road when it would be easy to tear this show to shreds. OK, I love Binnie and nothing will change that. And, the show does improve with each new episode. At the same time, I feel like I'm having a reverse-Michael (in The Godfather) relationship with HJM: every time I think I'm in, it keeps pulling me out! The sloppiness is so glaring that as hard as I try to stay with it, common sense keeps getting in the way. Why would: >someone pass out from a front end collision that doesn't even engage the air bags?
>The entire vast security force of Wonderland not rush to the circus location when a would-be murderer is headed there?
>the circus people schlep to the countryside in a snowstorm for a workshop where no workshopping happens? Which in turn makes me dread the day if/when actual circus activity occurs. Their leader is awfully klutzy for someone from Cirque de Soleil, and didn't even look graceful making giant bubbles. I fear lots of cringing is ahead of us under the Big Tent.

Show! Stop making me fight you so hard to hold on, I'm begging you. You're wearing me out.

U noe I feel We had more merciful and forgiving comments for the 1st 4 episodes and got critical fr 5 onwards. Which in a way is good, coz things are definitely improving, that's why we came out to critic it whereas for the first 4 episodes I was cringing in one corner ala seojin chant: "this drama can't be so bad, this drama isn't that crazy bad, this drama cannot be bat shit bad.....oh my beannnie" At least now it's worth a critic and not hopeless. There is genuine spark between seojin and robin (yes, the day has come that the favourite OTP pairing is not with a first or second female lead and not even the second male lead but the man and ..the man himself..) oh yeah that's how much hyun bin is making his pay cheque worth by nailing both characters. I just hope he don't get too traumatized by this drama to swear off dramas in the future.

Sigh...I really want to like this show...I luv the leads & usually get addicted to fluffy cheesy rom-coms....but there's like no story wut so ever....things that cud be said in a couple of shots are expanded to half the time line of the episode....they need to intro some new effective plot points/ worthy antagonists fast!!....and is it just me or is there a massive amount of PPl for this show?!...usually i don't notice until the recaps or comments....but just this episode alone...there was the coat/ the coffee shop/ the water bottle.....i think if there were more things happening in the ep they wud be less obvious....but for right now its like this strange slow plot, with really ineffective side characters wrapped around a lot of PPl!

@Hedwig
The actors are fine, the story workable but script is weak, pacing slow and editing is just awful. Add to that the central mystery around a missing character with whom the viewers had no chance to connect to empathize, sympathize etc. And no effort is being given to develop characters except for Seo-Jin. I don't find Robin interesting at all. The second leads are wasted and there's not much information about them to connect to the characters emotionally. I drag myself through each episode for Hyun Bin's dimples, that is it.

I don't know if it's us (we are watching more carefully now & realizing) or the production team (cram it full of PPL!) but I feel like all dramas nowadays have a full roster of PPL to cycle through.

You know where the Candy-heroine works will be PPL, and that there will be a coffeeshop or outdoor camping scene. I bet....soon~ even the sageuks will be fusion styled so they can fill it to the gayageum with PPL and logo'ed hanboks. T-T

This episode had lot of nonsense moments. First the bubble scene. What a dumb filler. Then there's the cheerleading part (Boring). And every time when the cousin appears, his parts are super boring and doesn't add anything to the story. What a bunch of fillers. And what a waste of time for Sung Joon. His character barely gets to do anything. Waste of actor and waste of time. Not to mention the workshop. There were no work done beside hanging out. What a pointless scene. If it wasn't for Hyun Bin, I would have drop this series. I really hope they change the writer. She's not capable of handling this work. And she's quite lucky because this is an adaptation of a webtoon. Everything is laid out. Yet, she fail to deliver. What a disappointment.

I'm just going to repeat episode 5. That was my favorite episode.

Hyunbin is indeed a good actor and no doubt he is the star of the show. I can watch this drama for hours just for him?

The biggest problem is the script and editing of this drams. The writer is one hella horrible writer. There are too many absurd and cheesy things in thr drams ( excluding hyunbin)

.how old is hana to be acting that way? And her screaming acting is so so soooo awkward. Where is the circus ? What's with random blowing bubble just for the sake of creating pretty scene. The girl is always falling down and getting into danger that needs bubble wrap protection.
The drama editing is so messy and unclimatic at all... Sometimes hard to think with logic

Required fields are marked *

agree....
many scene is anti-climax
i just kinda watch without think too much,
cause when i think, it upset me how some scene is not really needed or it just a pretty background
and I actually don't mind with the personality split, both love her and both is him and she doesn't know and love both (i think she will )
she always need helps and he helps her then I think that kind of scene is already happen

so just watch maybe a good way to watch

I agree that the best way to watch this show is not to think. Really turn off your brain lol. Just kind of let it happen and suspend judgment. Sometimes I think people take kdramas a little too seriously. While they are definitely some gems, the bulk are like reading a trashy novel, which is fun too. That's why when people get into heated debates on here all I can think is "chill". This isn't real life, it's just a show. I love dramas as much as the next person, but does it warrant tearing each other down?
Ps. Sorry I got off topic in the end.... Lol had to cut myself off before I extend the rant

thanks and don't worry for off topic
I get the feel that some can't quite take the criticism as real feeling
and hide what the show is lacking with thinking that the negative comment is from the competitor
what is wrong to look for quality and lovable drama if there is available
why we can't point the negative thing if it there?
ps : i am off topic too T.T

still have hope for the drama despite it continuously breaking my hope every ep,
strange....
cause it gets better every week but still just that drama for me

maybe because i think i knew how this drama will end but i want them to prove me wrong ...

0

Required fields are marked *

It was mentioned that once robin appeared he can appear anytime but mostly after sleep, stress or unwarranted physiological state (eg fainting). I supposed the sleep at the same time was some protocol they set and to prevent any out of the norm appearance of either one of them.
Okay.hmm sounds illogical but it's actually quite more believable than any of the other illogical stuff that happens so I'm ok with this explanation. LOL

Required fields are marked *

Wait...I thought Seo-jin could kind of control when Robin appeared - that was the whole point of keeping the heart rate low and living like a monk & all in the early episodes.

Then when his heart rate did go out of the 'acceptable range' Robin just shows...up...? And now that he's free, he comes out everytime at night????

Or is it Robin who is politely only coming out at night? Is the split identity that easy to control without a particular trigger?....

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I think of it this way. It is easy for them to give up control while unconscious but hard to take control. So, when they sleep, the other one gives up control as per their agreement. Seo Jin had previously been actively trying to keep Robin away with his meditation and monk lifestyle. So before, Robin didn't just take over when Seo Jin went to sleep.

I started watching with zero expectation and I actually quite like this drama :)

Rather than some novel treatment invented by Dr. Kang, I wish that Seo Jin would heal himself by acknowledging and accepting that he possesses the qualities that Robin has too. The carefree, loving and brave Robin is actually an integral but heavily suppressed part of him. To be at peace with himself, rather than meditation and yoga, Seo Jin needs to embrace the Robin part of himself.

The fact that Seo Jin could relate to Hana's extreme fear as manifested during eyewitness identification, is a good sign that he might be able to work through his childhood trauma (the kidnap incident) and become a more functional adult. Not knowing that Secretary Kwon was present, Seo Jin murmurred to himself that Hana should have told him how frightened she really was, instead of holding it in all by herself. This mirrors his own trauma as he had to act like he was okay in front of his dad all the while when he was deeply hurt inside.

Looks like it will be a long journey of personal growth for Seo Jin :)

I love watching grumpy pants aka crazy pants, soften and relax his guard.

It is fun watching him become territorial about Hana. As selfish and reclusive as he is, he is unconsciously thinking about Hana, concerned for her well being. (all the commas in the world could not fix that sentence, arg! )

He stole the confession meant for his alter and, as often as he keeps remembering Hana's confession, it looks like he is going to keep it for himself. If a drunken confession, meant for your alter, can sweep you off your feet then you are in dire need of a romance.

Now that bodyguard and Mom have more or less completely dropped off the screen, we're still left with Dr. Yoon Tae Joo as the only likely villain. Once again, there was major foreshadowing here - he's having drinks with the perpetrator (one doesn't have drinks during a treatment) - and the dialogue about Mr. Ahn remembering is quite out in the open between Mr. Ah and Dr. Yoon Tae Joo. This seems to be linked to the episode 5 years ago. If Dr. Yoon Tae Joo is aware of what happened 5 years ago with Mr. Ahn and Goo Seo-Jin, then he is well aware that he is the current perpetrator. Hence, he is likely to be involved (read: hypnotizing this guy to do stuff).

Since episode 8 is likely where the kiss between Jang Ha-Na and either Robin or Goo Seo-Jin will occur (as it does in nearly all Korean dramas of length 16 or 20 episodes), I would expect that the reveal of the mastermind won't occur until the very end of episode 10. That gives two episodes in between for emotional fallout and highjinks related to the kiss and discovery of love - the fun before the storm. The timing of these could be a little off - the kiss could come later, it's been a slow buildup, but I would guess that this is where the story arc is heading.

Please change the writer!!!
I wanna kick his/her ass so bad
focus on creating a solid plot instead of creating those useless absurd cheesy scenes
The female leads here are super duper annoying
the over acting, and the oppa this oppa that

Is the female lead a leader of circus or some whiny 5 years old kid? Her voice irritates me as well.
Idk how can i feel like this when i really like her in Rooftop prince. In here she is just like an awful rookie actress.
Please put some life and natural acting to your character.

Never get Hyun Bin craze but now i get how handsome he is from this show. He is like the only one with natural acting and carries the show smoothly despite the dismal one dimension writing. He adds flavor and fun to his characters.
Although Robin side has no depth at all.I still prefer watching both HB rather than the rest of the casts...

Gosh... idk how much i hate the bubble scene, i was like WTH...and the killer was just captured like that?what's the point of the story actually?

Once again it's not that i'm a hater but i'm looking at how bad the writer is. I read some comments about how KMHM got high rating because people are more into famous writer. That drama got me headache and a bit sick of the repetitive personality changes in every ep but at least the acting is superb and there is a smooth plot line there.
While HJM writing is so soooo sooo bad...........not bad in term of makjang or so whatever but to the point of how can an already lined out plot from a webtoon can become so terrible?

I had good expectations for this show. I even gave it so many chances. It's episode 6 and I'm still watching, hoping that the PD will turn this thing around. Unfortunately, this episode failed me. I didn't enjoy watching it at all. However, when I read Girlfriday's recap, I seemed to enjoy it more, which is weird. I'm thinking it's because I just can't connect with the OTP when I am watching the drama, but am able to connect with them when I am reading it. Maybe, that's why HB and HJM chose this script because it looks entertaining when on paper. But whatever it is that this drama is missing, they better find out what it is fast and put it into this drama ASAP. This drama started out at a 13% ratings and is already at a 5%. That's bad!!!!!
