Filming commences on tvN’s Superdaddy Yeol
by javabeans
What a cute poster for Superdaddy Yeol, which gives us the main characters in a nutshell: competent Mom (Lee Yuri) with a precocious kid (Lee Re) has to lead (or maybe drag) the good-natured but rough-around-the-edges hero (Lee Dong-gun) into becoming the titular superdad.
The copy on the poster is from the daughter’s perspective, lamenting, “At the age of nine, my life’s greatest ordeal… is getting a father like this!” Aw, but you’re gonna love him so much by the end, I just knoooow it. Enjoy the bickering now, kiddo.
The plot centers around the reunion of our leading man Yeol (the “outsider bachelor”) and his first love (the single mom doctor) after ten years, and the little girl who wanted a dad — just, you know, not that one. What ensues is a fun, heartwarming story that arises when you shove people into a sudden new family, and I’m pinning my hopes on PD Song Hyun-wook to make something sweet and sparkling out of this premise, since he did that with last year’s sleeper hit Marriage Not Dating.
The photos below are taken from the drama’s outdoor shoot over the weekend at an elementary school and also include co-star Han-young (What Is a Mom?). She plays the daughter’s teacher who falls for Yeol when he comes to fill in for a one-day teacher role, and she has a quirky, 4-D personality.
The show began filming two weeks ago and is set to premiere on March 13, in the Friday-Saturday slot following Heart to Heart.

I'm still sort if upset at the massive spoiler that was dumped in the last post about this drama. I hope it's rewritten because it just seems sort of uneccesary.

I... don't see how it counts as a spoiler if it's right there in the promotional material. This is the same basic plot outline stuff we get every time a network shills its upcoming dramas.

I'm gonna expect full of comedy here, too!! Just finished the webtoon and the ending was...... kinda open ended T.T The webtoon was short and was almost fast paced but it was good. I only hope the drama will make it better!!!

Are they backtracking from the terminal illness thing? Dramabeans and other sites keep raving on and one about the sweet comedy of this, but SHE'S DYING, which really ain't that funny. Unless y'all have seriously warped senses of humour. Surelt blog pieces like this one should tell the WHOLE story, not just skew the pitch by leaving out the core plot element, and in the process give a misleading impression of where the Drama's going?

It was briefly mentioned in their piece 'Lee Dong-gun turns into Superdaddy for tvN'. I agree that it should be mentioned as part of the premise though. So people know what they're signing up for even if they have not read that original piece.
However, perhaps it's the Korean side which is trying not to mention that too much anymore, so as to not drive any rom-com fans away? Which is pretty low of them, but it would explain why foreign coverage is also just focusing on the lighter elements. Or then they want to see how people react to it and leave room for changes, although it's a pretty big deal, so I doubt it's something they can change from the original.
Or then folks simply accepted that part of the premise and can still enjoy the happy parts without that sullying their joy. Personally, I don't work that way and like my happy stories without death, but many don't mind it. Still, for those who do, a warning would be nice.

It's because the articles that have come out since the original post have not mentioned any terminal illness. Sometimes dramas change concepts, so I don't want to make assumptions about this series based on what I've read in the webtoon -- I'm sticking to the information being released officially.

Yes, I kind of figured they might be keeping the original premise on the hush hush. It happens with many dramas based on an existing work and even those that are not go through many concept changes, as you say, even while airing. It's funny seeing developments completely contradicting or ignoring even the published character and plot descriptions.
I don't think this specific thing is an element that will change, given it's a pretty big deal in terms of character motivation, but I can see why they would leave that bit out of the current marketing efforts. Even if I don't like that practice.

Yes, that's my point. Having been bitten in the past by Korean Dramas weird concept of what passes for a "romcom", I think it's worth reminding people that the whole reason she NEEDS a Dad is because she's dying. At least in the original story, and that is a very major element to change. It is possible they've changed it, and I really hope they have, because I want the sort of story write-ups like this describe. But I suspect that the network is simply being disingenuous in its promotional material. Bait and switch is hardly an unfamiliar ruse in Korean Dramas.

This looks really cute. I'm hoping to see Lee Dong-gun in something awesome to erase memories of his last drama.
Also, is that a cigarette in his hand in the second photo? Not that I'm surprised, was just wondering because it was the first thing I noticed about the photos.

If she's significantly shorter than 5'5", LDG must also be quite short, since she's only a little shorter than him in flats.

It's the second leading girl in that photo who is besides LDG. She plays a teacher and falls in love with him.
