Hyde, Jekyll, Me: Episode 4

This show is pretty ridiculous, but it’s also fun, especially when our hero’s alter ego starts actively messing with his life. Some would call it “fixing” his life, but good luck convincing an uptight control-freak that adding complications is a good thing. But even the bossypants with a stick up his butt has his moments—they aren’t many, but he just might have a few feelings in there that aren’t fear and recrimination.

EPISODE 4 RECAP

Seo-jin wakes up in the morning and discovers the mess that Robin has left in his wake. Everything from Robin’s Protect Hana Plan to empty beer cans and bags of chips makes Seo-jin irate, and he fumes knowing that once Robin surfaces, he can come and go without any connection to Seo-jin’s vital signs.

Hana tells her bestie Jin-ju all about Robin, and how he’s her hero from Angel’s Bridge and also Seo-jin’s twin brother. Hana wonders why nobody else knows about Seo-jin having a twin, and Jin-ju suggests a chaebol rivalry for the inheritance, where Robin is the outcast, driven away by force and made to live quietly.

Strangely, that’s not too unbelievable given the excessive force she saw with the bodyguards last night, and Hana thinks it a decent explanation. She swoons to get a text from Robin (that he pre-sent last night) asking how she’s doing.

While it’s all rainbows over at her place, Seo-jin barks at Secretary Kwon to get rid of Hana once and for all. Seo-jin says that if Robin were anyone else, he’d have killed him by now: “But I can’t kill him! There’s no way, other than suicide. Because he’s me! Because I’m him! And THAT makes me crazy!”

Secretary Kwon reaches out with a sympathetic hand, but can’t make contact. Seo-jin brings up the incident five years ago (the last time Robin was around), and says gravely that something like that—where someone else gets hurt because of him—can never happen again. He adds cryptically that Robin has no idea what happened back then, and that fact scares Seo-jin more than anything.

As he steps out to begin his day, Seo-jin gets a text from Hana saying that she’s well and asking Robin how he is. Oh LOL, he sent the text from Seo-jin’s phone? He angrily deletes her contact info and tells Secretary Kwon to send her back to Las Vegas—even if they have to send a hypnotist to her, she’s never to set foot in this country again.

Then he notices head bodyguard Seok-won and asks why he’s hurting all over like he got beaten up. Seok-won shifts his gaze nervously. Seo-jin: “Did you hit me?”

Haha, I suddenly feel very sorry for the badass bodyguard. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Secretary Kwon interrupts shakily to say that the soreness is probably because of the zip-lining, and Seo-jin sputters.

Across town, we meet Robin’s friends from the photographs he had on his desk. It’s a father-daughter pair: Editor Min, a man who runs a tiny publishing company out of his book café, and his daughter MIN WOO-JUNG (Hyeri). Her room is littered with pictures of Robin, and she talks to the photographs as if he’s there.

She stops to grab some food in the café before heading out the door, and tells Dad about the snake dream she had last night. He tells her it’s meaningless, though once he’s alone, he wonders if she’ll reconnect with someone today. He looks down at the text he got from Robin, saying that he’s back and will see them soon.

Cousin Seung-yeon gets called to Chairman Dad’s office, and he’s ecstatic when Chairman Dad tells him to take some of Seo-jin’s work to help him out, because Dr. Kang’s disappearance is stressing him out. He leaves the office and tells his girlfriend (who turns out to be the chairman’s secretary) to dig into Dr. Kang’s case and find out more.

He gloats about taking on more responsibility when he runs into Seo-jin, and he asks if the rumor is true that he rescued an employee last night. Seo-jin says it’s not in his character to save people or fight with guards or zip-line, and he did NOT do any of those things, but Seung-yeon doesn’t believe him.

When Seo-jin goes in to see Chairman Dad, he’s told to get on the first plane out of the country. That sucks. Also, kinda serves you right, since you were about to do the exact same thing to Hana. Seo-jin asks what about Dr. Kang then, and Chairman Dad says he’ll look for her. Seo-jin knows that’s a lie and calls him on it: “You’re going to give up. Just like you gave up on your son.”

Chairman Dad doesn’t defend himself, and agrees that as of this moment, he’s giving up on his son: “Because you’re my sole weakness.” Geez, what a prince. Seo-jin argues that he’s tried his whole life to be better, knowing he had to be better to be enough for Dad, but all it ever did was make him blame himself.

Chairman Dad just wants to know that Seo-jin is safe somewhere, but Seo-jin rightly points out that what he really wants is for his son to be out of sight so that he can stop feeling guilty. He calls his father pathetic and decides he can be the same, and threatens to tell the world about his shameful condition if Dad doesn’t leave him alone.

Of course Seo-jin fails to see the fault in his own methods with Hana, and he cancels the circus contract without batting an eyelash. When Hana gets shut out by Seo-jin’s bodyguards, circus maknae Eun-chang finds her a mascot costume to sneak her into the aquarium opening ceremony where Seo-jin will be.

So she sneaks in wearing a cute Captain Walrus costume, and in the middle of the group picture, she taps Seo-jin on the shoulder and tells him to make good on the contract or she’ll declare a lawsuit right here in front of all these cameras. She adds that she is extremely serious right now, despite the smiling walrus face she’s wearing, ha.

They get a chance to talk alone, and Hana says that if this is about the accident yesterday, she’s sorry for causing trouble. But Seo-jin scoffs that that’s not even close. Of course, he’s thinking about her being the reason that Robin first appeared.

He says icily that the type of person he hates most in the world is someone who doesn’t even know what they did wrong in the first place, and so repeats that mistake over and over again, without knowing that it’s too late to fix things now. Naturally she has no idea what he’s talking about.

The only explanation he offers is that she gives him a bad feeling, so he plans not to get entangled with her any further. She throws the walrus head at his feet and shouts at the absurdity of his reasoning, and asks how he can end people’s livelihoods so easily. He counters that it isn’t easy, but the things that have happened in his life because of her have become too big.

She chases him down, and that’s when he notices his necklace around her neck, and demands to know why she has it. She says it’s Robin’s, not his, and he growls back that everything of Robin’s is his, and was always his to begin with. He tells her never to speak of Robin again and snaps the necklace right off of her.

As he turns to go, she tells him that Robin was there on that day, when Dr. Kang went missing and Seo-jin ran away—Robin stayed. He slams her against the wall (again, really?) and yells at her not to mention Robin, but that triggers his heart rate alarm and he starts choking and convulsing. Oh no, you can’t change in front of her!

He falls to the floor choking and gasping, close to losing control. But then Hana covers his ears and tells him to close his eyes, and it calms him down. The moment passes like a panic attack, and Seo-jin maintains control.

Hana looks worried, but as soon as he’s back to normal, he shoves her away and stalks off, not caring that he pushed her so hard she’s on the ground. The funny part is that she’s raging mad, but can’t get up in her chubby walrus costume, and just kicks and flails helplessly.

Thankfully Secretary Kwon finds her. He apologizes for Seo-jin, because he’s sensitive to begin with and more on edge because of Dr. Kang. She asks if her hypnosis treatment is no longer needed, and he tells her that while it’s no longer part of the deal, they’d of course accept her help gratefully. She leaves feeling deflated, but decides to call Dr. Tae-joo to see him later that day. Tae-joo tells her to come by and turns back to his current patient, Glasses Strangler.

It turns out that Woo-jung is the president of Robin’s fan club, and she yells at the table of fangirls who have drifted away to new webtoon authors in the intervening five years. At the same time and the same café, Seung-yeon meets Detective Na at the next table over, and Seung-yeon offers a bribe for info on Dr. Kang’s case.

Detective Na and Woo-jung go back forth demanding attention from their party, but the real purpose of the run-in is so that she accidentally drops a photo of herself with Robin, which Seung-yeon picks up. He guesses that Seo-jin’s been living a double life and keeping a young girlfriend on the side, which now gives him the ammunition he needs.

Hana goes to see Dr. Tae-joo, unwittingly walking right past Glasses Strangler on her way in. She’s nervous about undergoing hypnosis again, and Tae-joo very gently names all of the conflicting feelings she must be having right now, from fear to self-blame to guilt. He tells her it’s all normal, which makes her feel better.

Seo-jin tells Secretary Kwon to get his necklace fixed, and Secretary Kwon passive-aggressively sighs at the burden Hana must be feeling, since she’s responsible for all those circus troupe members and all their families. I love that he’s on her side. But Seo-jin stops listening the second they get a call from Detective Na, saying that they recovered Dr. Kang’s laptop.

Under hypnosis, Hana goes back to the most recent accident at Wonderland, and sees the same Glasses Strangler up in the rafters just before the mirror ball drops. She also sees Seo-jin there, which confuses her all the more.

After the session, she apologizes to Tae-joo that she still can’t get a good look at the culprit’s face, when she knows that he’s desperate to get a lead on Dr. Kang. He thanks her for trying, since he didn’t expect her to ever come back. He says that most witnesses don’t go this far to help when it’s not a personal case, and hands her the cat’s cradle rope to take with her in case she ever has trouble sleeping.

Seo-jin just misses seeing her as he enters the building, and they both miss the fact that Glasses Strangler is lurking in the shadows, waiting for Hana to leave. Seo-jin asks Tae-joo for any of Dr. Kang’s files on his treatment, but Tae-joo shows him that the laptop is filled with hundreds of thousands of files, only organized by number. And inside, they’re filled with images, likely the ones she used during treatment, and not much else.

Seeing Seo-jin’s disappointment, Tae-joo offers to treat him, but Seo-jin quickly says it’s just insomnia. He notices Hana’s scarf sitting on the desk, and Tae-joo says she was just here.

Seo-jin leaves with the scarf, and he’s still thinking about her when his car catches up to her walking down the street in the snow. He’s totally fixated on her, though he glares at Secretary Kwon for suggesting that they give her a ride.

Hana seems lost in thought too, because she doesn’t notice a motorcycle gunning right for her in the crosswalk. Thankfully, the guys see it first, and Seo-jin runs over to yank her out of the way just in time. And you say you never save people.

He tells her breathlessly not to get herself into danger, and leaves her with the scarf. She admits that she tried to remember the culprit but failed, and he says that he’s breaking the contract no matter what she does.

She decides that he must have his reasons for wanting her out, and agrees to go, as long as he promises to employ the rest of her circus troupe somewhere in the theme park. He readily agrees to that, and she’s grateful.

She plans to continue hypnosis treatment, not for him but for herself, because she doesn’t think she’ll be able to sleep with a clear conscience if she doesn’t do what she can to help find Dr. Kang. She uses Robin’s line and says that he needn’t thank her, because this is just her personality.

Seo-jin scoffs without the usual edge to his tone that it must suck to have that kind of personality, and she doesn’t disagree. She even takes back the thing she said about him always running away, and turns to go.

She gets half a block away when suddenly Seo-jin reappears behind her, holding an umbrella overhead. Aw, you totally CAN be swoony when you want to be. He tells her to take it, and once she gets over the initial shock, she takes the umbrella and watches him walk away.

Glasses Strangler gets home after his latest attempted murder and messages a mystery person that he failed yet again because “he” showed up. The other person responds: “Gu…Seo…jin?”

Hana goes to the circus theater to have a few beers and say goodbye to the place that was her childhood home. She remembers being a little girl and watching from the packed bleachers as Dad wheeled around on a unicycle, and cries at the thought of leaving it all behind.

Seo-jin tosses and turns in bed, disturbed by almost losing control earlier that day and Hana, of all people, coming to his rescue. He finally drifts off to sleep, and sometime later, Hana gets a call from Robin asking where she is.

He lights up Wonderland and finds her at the circus, and worries when he notices her crying. He cheers her up with funny glasses and asks about the giant trampoline in the room, which she says her father built for her when she was too scared to learn wire tricks. Dad had told her to think of the net like Dad’s hands, always there to catch her when she falls.

She asks if Robin wants to try it, and they laugh and jump like little kids, having a great time. They land pretty close together and there’s this charged moment when they turn and hold each other’s gazes. But Robin breaks first and rolls away.

Hana asks if it’s okay for him to be out like this, and he wonders if Seo-jin said anything about him, since there aren’t many people who know him. He figures that she’s curious about his bizarre family situation, but she lets him off the hook, and Robin says he’ll tell her someday.

She realizes that there won’t really be a later because she’s leaving, not right away, but once she wraps up a few things. She’s vague about it, but Robin guesses that Seo-jin told her to get out.

She admits that Seo-jin said some terrible things about the circus act (she notably keeps the conversation on the circus, not about Seo-jin’s dislike for her personally), and Robin gapes: “You let him get away with that?!”

He tells her she should’ve dished out a comeback like, “My circus sucks? Well, your personality sucks!” Of course that’s what your split-personality would say to you as an insult, hur.

Robin argues that even though Seo-jin’s face is fine (“Well, he does look like me”), it’s his personality that’s the problem. He eggs her on to insult Seo-jin some more, promising to pass the message along. Hee. They get all worked up, bouncing on the trampoline and spouting more insults Seo-jin’s way.

In the morning, Seo-jin wakes up all sore again, and this time he finds a cheeky “Sorry” note on his nightstand from Robin. He looks around the house, looking extra paranoid and waiting for the other shoe to drop.

He doesn’t find anything out of the ordinary, and calls Secretary Kwon to find out what Robin did last night. Whatever it is, he knows it’s something big, because Robin isn’t one for apologies.

Suddenly he looks up at his security monitor when he sees Hana arriving at his front door with two circus troupe members and some suitcases. Ohmygah, please tell me that’s what I think it is.

Seo-jin tears out of the house to ask what Hana is doing here, and she greets him with a big smile and a thank-you for the new contract. He grabs the giant document out of her hands and flips through it to find his thumbprint on it. Horrified, he looks down at his thumb, which is still red from the ink. Ha.

He looks up at Imaginary Robin waving down at him: “Sorry [not-sorry]!” Hana says she was surprised to find such a new detailed contract on her desk this morning when she went in to pack up her things, and Seo-jin’s eyes pop open to see that it includes blueprints for new facilities.

She adds that staying in this house (included in the contract as “witness protection”) does put her mind at ease since it’s extra secure, and Seo-jin just stares at her like she’s speaking gibberish. Her friend Jin-ju thanks him, and Eun-chang eyes him warily before muttering a request to take good care of his noona.

All Seo-jin can do is stand there and curse Robin in his head: “You son of a bitch!” Closing caption: Sometimes life is filled with things outside your control.

COMMENTS

You could say that again. Too bad for Seo-jin that watching things spiral out of his control is so much more enjoyable than letting him get his way. I’ve developed a liking for his morning-after scenes, where he has to assess the damage that Robin has done and stew impotently. It cracks me up that Seo-jin spent all that energy on getting rid of Hana just to have Robin bring her closer than ever. I don’t know how he’s going to manage the twin act with her living in the same house, but I can’t wait to see him juggle it. Obviously it’s as flimsy an excuse as anything that forces two leads in a rom-com to live under one roof, but now it’s actually starting to feel like a rom-com.

It’s too bad that it took four episodes just to rev up to this point in the story—couldn’t we have gotten here the first time Seo-jin threatened to break the circus contract? But hey, I’m not gonna look a cohabitation hijinks horse in the mouth. If the constant threat of danger from Glasses Strangler is going to give Robin the excuse he needs to force Seo-jin’s hand, then by all means, let’s shack up. Never mind that Glasses Strangler is probably the most inept hitman ever; I mean, his failure rate is kind of astounding, right? But if he’s just a hired henchman, it makes the mystery more interesting, since I thought he might just be a disgruntled crazy patient who had a psychotic break or something. I like that we’re opening up the possibility that anyone could be the mastermind, and I hope that Dr. Tae-joo will take a more active role in putting the puzzle pieces together, because he needs a bigger role in the story, stat.

Now that both Robin and Seo-jin know about Hana being Robin’s trigger, it sets up an interesting dynamic that I like better than the one we established at the outset. Because now Robin has a vested interest in her, and Seo-jin has good reason to hate her, even though he knows perfectly well that she has no idea what she did to him. It’s unfair to her, but I get it—she set off a chain of events that caused him a lifetime of grief, and now he lives like a monk and hates himself. It’s a pretty good reason to resent her, whereas before he was just being persnickety because that’s his character.

Even though Robin is the one that Hana is falling for, it’s her connection to Seo-jin that interests me most, tiny crumblets of emotion that they are. I know, an umbrella in the snow doesn’t really erase an entire day spent being rude and ungrateful, but then he seemed genuinely moved by her when she promised to continue hypnosis for Dr. Kang’s sake. She obviously doesn’t owe him anything (other than a kick to the shins, maybe), but he seems to be more aware and more guilt-ridden than he lets on. And now, thanks to Robin the sneaky trickster, he’ll have to work out his issues with Hana under one roof. It’s going to drive him crazy! Why does that make me happy?

HAHAHA this! I have like the hugest crush on him since I first saw him in INR3, then I began marathoning all his previous shows. I still think he looked the best in White Christmas (MAJOR SWOOOON!) but boy needs a main role in the big 3 already! Just something fluffy and sweet and him getting the girl at least! <3

I liked that hair too! I actually didn't read any negative comments about his SUFBB hair haha. Though smartypants Choi Ji Hoon will forever be my favourite Sung Joon role ever :D

he has a very interesting face. it looks perfectly ordinary, regular even then he does or says something and it's like a beam appears from somewhere. tony leung chai wai has the same kind of face actually. ordinary, everyman, you won't even look at him twice in a crowd but then he falls into quiet love and his face just glowed. an amazing actor. quite the chameleon.

Her pitch levels and pointy chin take getting used to. But those 2 are gold together. I think no one (even Bennie) could have done the 7 characters they way Ji Sung is killing it at the moment. I was so happy when he was cast, he is the only reason I started watching it. Such a great laugh out loud drama and sizzling romance. I do hope this one picks up cause I like Binnie, would be a shame for his first post-army drama not to do well, but the ratings are not looking good :-(

I know, right? The plot sucks and HB as robin creeps me out. So I am happy he's not playing seven personalities. He does the secret garden part of the role well, but his robin. ..is awful. On the other hand, those two in HMKM rock it. Who thought that the f!lead is a brilliant comic actress and SJ will be so great?

Robin creeps me out, his personality is just too much for me

0

@Buttercup,
I can kinda understand why Hyun Bin skipped over KMHM. Those personalities are diverse and extreme, to the point that while funny, they at times Border on descending into farce.
In this drama, both of his personalities remain dignified and proper. For the sake of his image, Hyun Bin might prefer not to be seen wearing lipstick and a skirt running around the streets of Seoul. ;)

The girl in KMHM- Her screaming for all the other eps has been giving me splitting headaches. Finally, she is not screaming in the latest ep, to my great relief.
From what I read, you aren't the only person who thinks she is the weak link there, not by far.

@kdaddict,
Guess u are right about some of d extreme personalities in KMHM. HB probably doesn't favour them cos in SeGa eventho he acted as a girl, he's not very girly. I adore him in SeGa. His acting is so natural and spot on. The way he delivers the lines, d dimples n expressions all come naturally and aptly. Here, sometimes he seems to over-smile as Robin. So disappointing after such a long wait.

i dont see how it could be going towards being farce considering people have multiple personalities that are that extreme. take helen a women with 7 multiple personalities, most of them are comprised of boys, ranging from 5 yrs old to 16 yrs old, with the 16yr old boy having a bad attitude and then a 13 yr old girl who's super feisty. both the girl and boy are dangerous cause they ended up causing helen to become a alcoholic and a drug addict where she overdosed a 100 times. she didnt know why she had the condition until she found out that she was heavily abused when she was younger you should look her up, its surprising how different she becomes.

as for jun eum well some people dont like her screaming some people like me,it doesnt effect but i wouldnt go as far to say a weak link since from what i read she is really loved as well, i guess there is a minority that dont like her, but eh.

" For the sake of his image, Hyun Bin might prefer not to be seen wearing lipstick and a skirt running around the streets of Seoul"

Well you know I really respect actors who take changes and have fun with their acting. I am not saying that every actor should cross dress at one point in their career, but if they chose acting as their career taking risks is better that playing the same role over and over again. The most likely reason of why he didn't take the role in KMHM was because he wouldn't have been able to pull it off.

This. Thank you for saying out loud what probably most people think but do not dare to utter the words because God forbid we question HB's limits as an actor. I like him, I really do but no one is perfect and I can't help but agree with you on this, he probably turned it down because it was simply beyond his abilities

@Blueribbon, @Hanuel,
I can see Hyun Bin considering his image when he chooses a role, becos he'd have good reasons to do so. He has some extremely lucrative CF deals representing the most expensive products and services in SK. Whether he is selling Samsung Smart TV or insurance plans, he always appears in the most dignified manner. Image is worth millions in his case.

I for one, don't know where his limits are as an actor.

0

Agree here. I really like Hyun Bin too, but he probably felt 7 personalities were too much. It would have been a disaster if his comeback was too ambitious and he couldn't pull it off. It was too risky. Wise choice. Ji Sung on the other hand is perfect for the role. Great he had the chance to do it coz he's totally killing that role or those roles if I may say. I never really thought I'd like a Ji Sung but after ep 1of Kill Me Heal Me (came across it purely by accident) i have become a fan.

0

AMEN!! Finally someone stated the obvious!

0

@Blueribbon,
Like you, I absolutely respect actors who are willing to take acting challenges and leave their image at the curb. But some are willing, and some not so much.
Ji Sung is showing us new sides to his acting, which is fantastic in many ways. Makes me wish even more that this drama would show us sthg in Hyun Bin's acting that we haven't seen before. Maybe it'll later. Here's hoping.

Yah I totally agree with you. For JiSung to even last minute take up 7 personalities with roles that's practically his complete opposite is a challenge which I admire him so much for it!

I don't dislike nor like Hyunbin but I'm kinda glad he rejected the offer because I can't see anyone else besides JiSung who can act as Cha Do Hyun, Shin SeGi, NANA, Perry Park, Yona and Yosub!

@KDaddict
I respect your opinion but disagree. The personalities are diverse with distinct character traits, voice and accent. Its challenging and if not done well can result in a disaster. I get why he decided to go for a fairly known route, he played safe for his drama return. I agreed to it that it was the right choice up until the show actually started airing. Lets be honest, accept for Binnie the show majorly lacks in all other parts considered. About cross-dressing, that really boils down to your philosophy and comfort-zone as an actor and has no relation with image whatsoever. Look at Jeffrey Tambor in Amazon's transparent or Jared Leto in Dallas Buyer's Club. As for KMHM, I dislike comparing the two show. They could not be more different all things considered but will write anyway. HJM is a show that tries to take itself too seriously and KMHM is a show that has a very serious plot with complex emotions but takes itself really lightly. So far, KMHM writers know they are over the top and even maybe just another typical drama and instead of being too serious about it they make fun of themselves and use humor to diffuse it all. The girl in KMHM is Hwang Jung Eum and she is an established actor. Yes, her character screeches like a banshee at times but she can make you cry along with her when she wants to. Genuine warmth, tenderness, desperation, she can make them flow with ease. She can balance her acting and has amazing chemistry with Ji Sung. So calling her a weak link is just wrong.

i agree, i think it takes itself seriously and lightly at the same time, there is a good balance and a good amount of self awareness as well. they know where they are going and know how to handle such a concept considering it can easily become a melo, full of pain and angst. i read up on DID and im surprised at how well they have researched their stuff. but i'll leave all that for now until a review for ep 7-8 comes, which is taking forever

I read it somewhere in soompi that Hyun Bin was actually never got the offer to play in KMHM because they wanted someone in his 20ies. They use Hyun Bin name to create a sensation aka promote their film, the article said. Not sure which one is right though. But as per my opinion had Hyun Bin take up the role in kmhm, he'd be able to pull it off.

Not a fan of Hyde-Jekyll writer though.. But still gonna watch it just for the sake of Hyun Bin. I hope the story and the rating would get better. Hyun Bin deserves better. :(

I am glad that HB didn't take KMHM as his acting is in no way better than JS (at least to me). Even in HJM, his acting is similar the same like what he has shown in SG.

No offense but what he has is good look and mediocre acting, so yeah...(sorry if this offense HB fan).

I am glad that HB didn't take KMHM as his acting is in no way better than JS (at least to me). Even in HJM, his acting is similar the same like what he has shown in SG. It needs a much better script, and top notch actress for HB to overshine JS because if it is only base on acting, he definitely still need to improve

I am actually happy that KMHM has better rating over HJM, simply because KMHM is treated like an underdog, though many has pointed out that KMHM has the potential judging from the poster and thriller (than HJM) but it was treated 2nd class just because HJM has HB.

anyway, i enjoy the love story of Hyde, Jekyll and Me but not the plot
and enjoy the plot of KMHM instead of their love story.

I suspect that people will continue to compare them whether you want it or not:
2 dramas airing in the same time slot on DID, esp. since KMHM came out first and ppl saw 4 eps of it before this one.
Hope this story picks up momentum as it goes.

Yay! Thanks for the recap!! I think I will just enjoy reading recaps from now on...not enough time in the week to watch everything! I wish they went a little faster with getting more background information and making me feel more emotion for the characters. I was just so confused for the first few episodes that I couldn't get a good handle on it. It just doesn't feel as consistent as I'd like it. But...I will continue enjoying reading what they come up with! Roommate hijinks, I'm ready!

I wish this drama had a better female lead. Between this and KMHM, I'm not sure who has it worse. While Hwang Jung-eum is as screechy and eerie as it gets, Han Ji-min is just as dull and boring, it feels like she fades in the background. It’s so unfortunate too because she’s the trigger to the brilliant Hyun Bin characters. But part of the fault is definitely in the writer for making Hana so one-dimensional. I want to feel her urgency over needing to remember what happened. I want to feel her sadness over not being able to participate in the circus. I want to care for the circus at all, but there’s absolutely no trigger for that. Le Sigh.

Hyun Bin, on the other hand – I don’t think I need to say much. The guy rocks, period. He makes me care for the stuffy and closed-off Seo-jin just as much as he makes me fall for Robin’s sweetness. I’m also shipping Ha-na with Seo-jin more than Robin. I don’t know what that makes me but Seo-jin has never wavered with his prickly attitude… until the moment he gave her an umbrella. I found that quite weighty since she’ll probably be the one who’d turn him more Robin-like. That’s really just another part of himself afterall.

Dr. Tae-joo definitely needs a bigger role! How is the guy second lead when we see him for barely 3 min per episode? I honestly don’t understand his purpose because any small actor could’ve played the doctor and it wouldn’t have made a difference. Sung Joon is doing well with whatever he’s getting. Except he isn’t getting much! Instead, we see Seung-yeon, fangirl and Glasses strangler who are all so un-compelling, I'd rather have a hour of Robin vs. Seo-jin instead.

While this is certainly a Hyun Bin show through and through, I expect better writing, directing and acting from everyone else. I really, really, really want to love this drama. But right now, I’m only loving Hyun Bin, Robin and Seo-jin. Come on, Show, I know you can do so much better!

Hyun Bin had tons of scripts to choose from for his post-MS comeback drama. Why this particular script, we can't help but wonder.

The ratings have been going down steadily and significantly, both nationwide and in Seoul. I just feel for Binnie. He deserves better, a far better comeback project and ratings. Or was the anticipation, expectation too high?

I genuinely think the initial premise was quite interesting but nothing's really coming together the way we want it to. The editing is so off and chemistry - that doesn't involve two Hyun Bins - is non existent.

As for ratings, I checked it out and holysmokes that's bad! He does deserve the best scripts out there; he can make anything come to life. I think its a combination of skyhigh expectations and horrible execution. All we can hope for is that it gets better. For Binnie.. and for us too!

i agree with you. Hana is such a bland character,i don't know what's her purpose in the whole drama other than being Hyun Bin's trigger.
Hana is so bland, empty, nothing talk about. However, she is nice eye candy.

I find the drama to be a try hard too. With the cheesy romantic scenes which were intended to make the viewers go "aaaaw......." but it turned out to be quite embarrassing.

Hyunbin is a decent actor and never loses his charms but i never understand why he chose to do this drama. What i can think is maybe, KMHM sounds crazy with 7 personalitites and it'll be hard to act it out while this drama is safe and maybe predicted to be able to create the same buzz as Secret Garden.

HJW is as badass as you'd get. But her character in Secret Garden was the most fake 'badass' I know. The writer tried to sell it off as that but the way she gave in to Joo Won at every turn redefines the word.

Still, the point remains then same. Han Ji-min is no Ha Ji-won. She doesn't have the charm and charisma, nor does she have the screen presence and chemistry. Secret Garden wasn't just Hyun Bin. It was also Ha Ji-won. I'm still pressed to think the PD-writer is the main culprit in this drama, but the leading lady isn't far behind. Someone please save Binnie!

Ha Ji Won also cannot shine if given poor script. She was slaughtered by movie critics in her latest movie. Tried to be cute but laughable.

0

As far as HJW's new movie. There's' nothing wrong with HJW acting because the script calls for it. It is the plot of the story that is weak not with the acting.

0

I love SG.It's been 3 or 4 years and what I remember from the drama was the amazing chemistry between HB and HJW.They were in love and it shows in the screen.

0

HJW had the worst character and lines I've ever come across in her entire filmography (admittedly I haven't seen everything she was in, but still). Her lines were cringeworthy, she was a wimp and she over did the crying to no ends.

However, I feel all these flaws were not hers but the writing/directing...What she brought to the table despite those shortcomings, was her beautiful screen presence, her dedication and her entire self-emersion and investment in the character's love story. She fell in love with HB and it came across loud and clear! Something HJM isn't able to do or at least portray! Too sad for HB cuz he delivers every damn time, in every drama he was in no matter how sucky it was he was always top notch! I'm just so heartbroken for him now!!

Also, I think SG had a lot more going for it than it's two leads. I mainly referring to it being a KES drama. She has had many hits under her belt and her writing is witty and sharp (I believe). So it's not surprising that SG was such a big hit. Of course the OTP had a lot to do with it too.

I had been worried about the writing only cause the main writer, I haven't really be all the impressed with. There's still a lot of episode left to turn my opinion around. We shall see.

The problem isn't Binnie, he is delivering but in Secret Garden he had a wonderful cast supporting him. Ha Ji Won is force that delivers on its own. Yoon Sang-Hyung, Kim Sa-rang, they were wonderfully supporting him in the story. SG had its fair share of problem, it wasn't perfect. But it worked well because of the combined effort of the entire cast and how well that was coming across on screen, there was a harmony between story and cast so if one was lacking the other kept making sure it won't let the entire show down. I am not saying that the cast in Hyde, Jekyll Me is lacking in their ability or are not giving effort. It just doesn't translate the same way on screen. Han Ji-Min for me is the biggest let down. She lacks screen presence and her acting appears lifeless to me. But I do hope in the upcoming episodes, these problems will go away. There's still time for this show to truly deliver. I'll keep watching for Binnie's sake but it's taking a lot of effort on my part to do so.

It's not fair to compare this to Secret Garden just because HB is in both of the dramas. SeGa had a more zany, hilarious feel to it (at least the first part) and laugh out loud scenes, but this is entertaining too in it's own way.
I think Han Ji Min is doing well with what she's given so far and her chemistry with Hyun Bin is fine. I see a problem with the writing and direction through. Some scenes are way too ridiculous/unrealistic, like all that zip lining, repeated attempts at Hana's life and the back and forth with the contract renewal, but despite that I find myself enjoying the show a lot. As for the ratings I guess it doesn't help that it's in the same slot as KMHM which seems to be doing quite fine ratings wise.

0

True, SG had a fantastic comradery among the cast and they just brought the best in each other despite flaws in plot and execution!...Too bad this one isn't on that same level, nor is it delivering those same punches.

You were correct. Aside from amazing chemistry, I love the witty and sharp lines in SG.

Oooh, even more foreshadowing of Dr. Yoon Tae-Joo being the mastermind behind the attacks: he met with the perpetrator right before the motorcycle attack, he scheduled Jang Ha-Na to come to him right after that appointment, and he had the Dr. Kang's laptop, that suspiciously had nothing but the entire library of ShutterStock. That's 3 episodes in a row with foreshadowing.

Am looking forward to discovering his relationship to Dr. Kang. And also the meaning behind giving Jang Ha-Na the Cat's Cradle string.

I made a comment on an old thread for ep 3... here's more of my thinking on it....

I thought last episode that the show seemed to be setting up Dr. Yoon Tae-Joo as the mastermind behind the attacks. In this episode he gives a lecture, demonstrating his hypnosis prowess and has contact with the perpetrator. While that contact appears innocuous and the doctor unaware of Mr. Ah’s actions, it would be a nice red herring to have this a way for them to meet to plan the next attack. And, by ‘plan’, I mean having the doctor hypnotize Mr. Ahn.

Here’s another interesting point. The last ‘incident’ was 5 years ago. Dr. Yoon was in at Harvard and only recently returned. If he was a doctoral student, then he would be there about 5 years. If he had received a medical degree in Korea and gone to Harvard Med for a psychiatry residency, then he would be in the states approximately 4 years.

I started thinking in this episode that Glasses Strangler is in the employ of Dad as well, that Dad has known all along that it was HaNa that brought Robin into being. But where Dr TJ comes into that isn't clear to me.

0
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

That doesn't make sense to me.

First of all, Dad is a cardboard villian. He's not got enough depth in the series to be the mastermind. Secondly, it is most likely that the two personalities of the main character will integrate and he'll earn his father's love. So, the father character needs to be set up for a redemption arc.

There are only a few characters who are mysterious enough to be the mastermind: the doctor, the bodyguard, and the mother. I suppose that the mastermind also might not have appeared yet. But, assuming that the mastermind is one of the existing characters, next we have to figure out the motivation. There could be a strong motivation - a previous wrong that wants righting by a main character. Or, there could be a weak motivation - a character who wants the approbation of another character.

We don't have much information yet. We only have a few clues. One, an incident occurred 5 years ago where Koo Seo Jin hurt people and Robin doesn't know. After this incident, Robin didn't appear. Two, there was now an attack on Dr. Kang. This incident occurred while she was on the phone to KSJ letting him know that a cure was possible, so it's unlikely that it's in response to her sharing with him that she found a cure. The third attack was on Jang Ha-Na, who showed up in Dr. Kang's office utterly coincidentally. So, there are three possibilities: either Dr. Kang was the primary target, KSJ is the primary target, or Robin is the primary target. If the primary target is Dr. Kang, then Dr. TJ is the most likely perpetrator as he's the only one with a potentially conflicted relationship with Dr. Kang.

If KSJ or Robin is the target, then the field opens wider. His rival at work is unaware of his relationship to Dr. Kang, so he is not the mastermind. That leaves the original three - the bodyguard, the mother or the doctor. This is where I cheat: the doctor is the second lead in the show. So, this is where I'll put my money. Also, as many people have commented here - why would Sung Joon have only a minor part? He's got a much bigger role to play. He'll be central to the whole plot. And it won't be as a second love interest, bc the conflict is already between KSJ and Robin. Thus, baddie is the next most likely role.

I think that the mother and the bodyguard may turn out to be a little interesting in teh end, too. I bet they're both a little related. Especially the mother - wasn't it weird how she snubbed Robin? Awfully cold that....

I'm guessing the attack on Dr Kang has to do with her trying to help Seo-Jin, but why would someone want to prevent Seo-Jin from finding a successful treatment? If Dr Tae-Joon is the mastermind I bet it has something with that incident from 5 years ago that was mentioned. He or someone else might be out for revenge since it was said that people were hurt then. And we still don't know why Seo-Jin wanted to jump off that bridge or why he appears to have traumatic memories from childhood.

I'm quite intrigued by the scene where Ha-na manages to Seo-jin down, preventing him from turning into Robin. You guys think it's possible that it might be suggesting the "cure" to Seo-jin's split personality..?-- that as much as Ha-na was responsible for bringing out Robin, she will also be the one who would ultimately help Seo-jin "discover" and "face up to" his loving side, thus putting Robin into eternal rest..? If that's the case, I'm expecting a lot of angst and tears when Ha-na gets torn between keeping the Robin she loves vs. helping the "real" Seo-jin (whom I'm sure she'll find herself falling for:D)

On a side note, omgosh I'm soooo in love with Hyun Bin heeheeheeheee:D Wooohooooooo Hyun Bin alll the way!!

If they keep Sung Joon's 3mn appearance, SBS is going to feel the wrath of his fanbase.

These fans can be quite vocal when need be...there are so many instances that this has happened...He's a great actor totally wasted so far.

I understand that they are trying to sell the show through Hyun Bin sheer star power alone...but so far... the ratings have not reflected that it is working.

Maybe they can change things a bit and spread the love around by giving other actors some more screen time to balance the story a bit...and see if that will positively influence the ratings.

Anyway...if he continue to get 3mn appearances, I would not be surprised if Sung Joon's fans protest against the writer and SBS for his poor treatment.

After all...he's is also a star in his own right, even if it's not at the level of Hyun Bin.

I don't really think its an issue of giving Sung Joon more to do more than its casting someone popular for a very minor role - up till now, at least.

Tae-joo doesn't feel important in the context of the story because the whole Dr. Kang disappearing act seems very forced itself. Therefore, whether or not he's able to help Hana remember anything, it feels like those scenes are filter. I'd love for Tae-joo to be the mastermind/villain instead. That should spice up a few things and allow Sung Joon to get more screen time as well. Or maybe he could live in Seo-jin's house too as a method of helping Hana. The three-way love triangle would make me really happy!

Thanks for the speedy recap Girlfriday. I haven't watched the episode yet so I'm staying away from reading the recap at the moment as well. However, I have a general comment prompted by the first three episodes and the comments I read regarding episode 3. There seem to be more of a sympathy for Robin because 1) He is going to "disappear" 2) He is the nice one 3) Dimples...

I have to admit to me Robin is close to the nice but boring second lead. As much as I love the dimples I find his smile a bit too much. He is a version of the typical second lead that has depth and very unique circumstances that incite empathy but at least he has lead a happier life, in fact he has led a life period. However short the duration it was still more than Seo Jin ever had.

Seo in had no life, no fun, no excitement, nothing. He is not a control freak by nature. He is not monitoring his vitals all the time for fun, he complained about having to live a life without touching a woman and doing more... He is equally looked down upon by his father and on top of it all as Robin said everyone likes Robin better. I feel sorry for him, he is the one that needs help, love, happiness and excitement in his life. To me it would be more interesting to watch his romance with Ha Na, not Robin's.

Regarding the sadness of losing Robin, I have no idea how these things work but my understanding of the word "integration" leads me to think that when Robin disappears the remaining Seo Jin will not be the Seo Jin of today and some of Robin's traits (if not his memories) will live in Seo Jin. For one, Seo Jin wouldn't need to monitor his heart rate anymore and he can do everything he always wanted to do and couldn't. Like having some fun. And I truly hope he will continue his webtoons and relationships cultivated by Robin.

This! This is also what I've been saying and thinking, especially towards the opinion that Robin is better and that maybe he can take over forever. There's no need for that since even Robin knows reintegration is best for both of them. And Seo-jin slowly gaining back the traits he put into Robin is best for this drama. :)

I agree with everything.

Though it might be hard for SJ to slowly start doing things that he enjoys, because Robin is likely to take over if SJ gets really excited - thus SJ loses out. It's really mean, actually.

I've been wondering about the first kiss that is bound to happen between SJ and HN. Will Robin appear and sabbotage that too? Poor SJ!

I'm sure they will merge the both of them, so that SJ will be a Chaebol who turned nice (like in any other KDrama ever) xD

But I hope Robin won't kiss the girl first, 1) because I like her better with SJ, and 2) because Robin already has a girl (that fangirl, I guess - and she will probably be the cause of some jelousy).

I hope he doesn't either because what's so interesting about the story of boy meets girl and they fall in love? Seo Jin is definitely more interesting to me. Watching him grudgingly like her in spite of himself will be fun.

As much as his character looks like the cliche asshole chaebol I cut Seo Jin more slack because of his condition. Yes, most drama heroes have traumas in their past but his trauma is on an other level. More similar to It's Okay That's Love.

I can tolerate ridiculousness in the plot if the OTP is rockin' the chemistry but, alas, they are in deep doo doo in that department so far. Hyun Bin is being his awesome self but Han Ji Min is so bland with the portrayal of her character that she sucks out even Hyun Bin's ability to make a scene romantic. She just doesn't have that natural playfulness that's needed to make this drama's heroine awesome.

Glad to read the reviews on this Hyun Bin drama because I was wondering what to watch next after I recover from Healer (is there such a thing?). Your statement here just nailed it for me. I'm going to watch Kill Me Heal Me. Many people are raving about it. I really like Hyun Bin but I don't want to feel disappointed in him, so I think I'll pass. The OST/ background music was haunting...and it was so beautiul and painfully sad and romantic... Such expressive eyes he had but now....
He needs to feel his character and challenge himself as an actor and stop playing safe. He is superstar not only because he is a pretty face. He is a good actor which many people have I guess forgotten. He needs to remind us how he reached this position of an A-Lister. If only good looks could make him come this far, Daniel Henney would have been a mega star who is like chocolate- irresistible but alas.

Does she accpet the drama without reading how her character would be like? Just because Hyunbin is there she thought that thise will def be a hit.

The scriptwriter is soooo bad too, idk about the real webtoon.. Is it good?

Part of the reason why Korean women not cheering on him this time, maybe after the expose 100 000USD/episode. Korean are very sensitive after knowing the nonsense income with low quality work.

I was wondering could it be Dr. Kang who has requested to get rid of her (the trigger)?

By the way it wasn't just giving an umbrella in snowy weather but saving her life too. Which might help her realize there was something more to the way he was treating her.

It's kinda funny in the trailer she ask if she can have them both, I didn't understand the meaning at the time, but seeing as far as she knows they are twins, her dilemma is more understandable although her conclusion is quite greedy.

I just started thinking... what if the missing psychiatrist staged her own abduction to cure SJs DID?
The hypnotist might be helping her.

And now I can't wait to see if this comes true. :)

This drama is a beautiful production, but it pales in comparison to the other dramas this season, because it is incredibly slow. Every look takes ages and one whole BGM song to finish. If this was one of my first dramas, I would really love it. The cast is great, the directing is great, the scenery is great.
But I guess I got spoilt by all the indie dramas which are quick, are clever and have heart.

Also, I am annoyed to no end with the time war JEKYLL has with KILL ME. Yesterdays episodes both had an exhaustingly long recaption of events - and if I remember King of Dramas correctly (and this is where I get my knowledge about drama production stuff, so it might be wrong :P) - the more time your drama takes, the bigger the chance that viewers will zap to your drama after the other one they watched has finished. Ts ts.

So far I have been underwhelmed with this drama. I know it's "unfair to compare" but...

I think there are multiple reasons why I find this drama so bland.

One is the comparison between KMHM. The leads there have genuine chemistry, demonstrated in the past in "Secret" and as far as developing that in the KMHM plot, it's just getting started. I hated the screeching too but I was willing to bear with it knowing that the more the relationship develops, the intensity will amp up because the chemistry is so good. In fact, with the end of this week's episodes, it already has shifted into higher gear, which is pretty early in the show for that to happen.

The second is that the plot for HJM, with the exception of the disappearance and/or murder mystery, is really rather bland.

There's so much to work with in the setting of a Disneyland-like park and a circus going the Soleil route, but I'm not feeling any excitement related to the setting. Think of the wonder that both Disneyland/Disney World and Cirque de Soleil invoke (well...just forget about the crowds and the long waits at Disney parks, and just focus on the cool stuff).

I really started the first episode with some anticipation of that sense of wonder being expressed through the characters, but the poorly-executed gorilla deflated everything...it took me out of the story. If the production team couldn't do that element right, they should have picked another trigger event.

On top of that we have a bland lead actress, or perhaps a bland lead female character with an actress directed to play her that way? And, Seo Jin is so angry and repressed that its difficult to connect with him as a character. Perhaps that will change over time, but we should be able to empathize with him at this point and there isn't much to work with yet.

I guess maybe that's why I like this one better?

IDK, I relate to Seo Jin more, and I thought KMHM was too silly and while I liked JS's dominant personality, the others I didn't care about. I think I made it to episode 2 on that one. Maybe I'm just a jerk like Seo Jin lol I really feel for him (of which I seem to be the minority).

I fast-forwarded through the ridiculous gorilla thing that's never come back up again. And plotwise, my biggest problem is that the plot IS going fast--a lot has happened--but it doesn't FEEL like it at all! The plot feels so slow. I know its too early to let her know SJ has DID, but I felt like she should know by now, and I don't even know how to fix that.

But, 1000% agree on the female lead. She's caught between traditional crybaby and not-quite-spunky.

My question: Is S. Korea attempting to come to grips with it's own national personality with these multi-personality dramas popping up like dandelions.

In my drama observations, there's the public persona and the personal persona. Characters tend to be in super self control when in the public persona, and cutting loose when in the personal one. When I think of all the writers getting on DID bandwagon, it gives me pause to ponder if they're working through the rapid socio-cultural changes happening in their society through their writing.

And, yeah, I'm prone to overthinking things.

To conclude: I dislike the stunts in HJM: the ziplines out of nowhere, the water stunts, the jumping out of windows, and off of balconies...these are too fake looking, and do not hitting the zany mark. I give them all thus far a big fat raspberry.

Omg i read absured things in here that i cant even... People criticising hwang jung eum's acting??? U may not like her face or i dont know what but her actng? Really???? She is just sooo natural and one of the few actresses that she doesnt seem to care about how she looks on camera and only cares about her craft.. and come on people dont even mention KMHM here...its obvious that KMHM is the better drama by far! as for hyun bin, im a fan of him but lets all admit it..he is not that great of an actor...he is good but lets be honest, he could never have pulled of kmhm!! For some reason people thnk "oh its hyun bin, so he definately is not at fault since he is such a good actor" well he is not that good people! Just sayin!!

To me HB is way overrated by his fans and by some blogger. I neither like nor dislike him. I enjoy his acting in MNIKSS and TWW but other than that he is just ok.

HJE acting is a bit overboard in the screaming dept but other than that she is for sure has acting chop.

I think Hyun Bin would be able to pull off Ji Sung's role but the man is too stuck with his image at the moment that he is playing safe.
I've seen him from early days and he is definitely good actor with a very strong screen presence.
People were raving about Secret Garden and also the drama was a huge hit but personally I found him dull in the drama. He was dull in the previous drama too, the one he did with Song Hye Gyo.
Here he is trying but somehow... because of poor direction, bad acting and no chemistry with his costar, he looks like a try hard.
I hope he comes out of his shell and challenges himself as an actor. He can do much much much better than this... I believe in him.

I never really cared about Secret Garden. I've only liked Hyun Bin in Kim Sam Soon haha.

Poor directing and editing is sad as well as the script that seems too forced ...

HJI has good ideas but bad execution and storyline, as you have mentioned, pretty ridiculous. The story atm is quite aimless and I do not see a strong overall plot as the writer seems to only emphasise on how A* Robin is with Hana and not so well with anything else. I will continue watching it cus robin is pretty cute and the actors are actually good, along with awesome OST..... just poor writer... Oh well.

Personally, my favorite drama with Hyun Bin was the one in which he looked like the most normal guy- and he was SO SO HOT in "The World That They Live In", also known as Worlds Within. The story is a fascinating look at the world of making dramas as it features the behind the scenes production dealing with live shoots and the interactions between staff, crew and actors. Binnie was stunningly gorgeous - a healthy weight, the perfect hair - just a real guy (OMG- him in his jeans). After several HB dramas, this is the one that made me really sit up and go - WOW - he is HAWT and a great actor too. Well worth a watch for HB fans and for those on the fence.....
And another thing - his DramaFever movie "The Fatal Encounter" just released after his military service....talk about fanservice in the first few minutes with his naked torso doing exercises. THIS is what army life did to his muscles!!!! The opposite from too-skinny Binnie in Secret Garden. 'Nough said.

Hyun Bin is single handedly leading this show. I loved Han Ji Min's acting in Rooftop prince and Padam Padam, so I KNOW FOR A FACT that she is a good actress. But so far, and I repeat 'so far', I don't see anything that makes me like Jang Ha Na.
I blame everything on the writers. They need to step it up (which is actually happening, because every episode is getting better than before) but they also need to give that edge to HaNa's character. She seems so useless in terms of character requirement at the moment.
But, I love Han Ji Min as an actress. Its all writers' fault. They could have done so much with this show. But hey, only 4 episodes have aired. I guess the real treat is yet to be shown.

Hyun Bin..I waited for your comeback but damn, this show is getting ridiculous with zero chemistry & bad directing..I don't know what to say..I wanted to continue & watch for you but I can't help to feel shame watching at some scenes..I even hate to see his secretary..why his character is always like that? so boring like I want to punch his face then fire him & hire Lee Gun's secretary; Tak Shil Jang! Come on show..make it more interesting! I know I had a huge crush on Jisung's 7 personalities right now but...good luck! I think, I'm done!

Absolutely agree with your comment. Also, having two shows airing at the same time about handsome chaebols with multiple personalities disorder is simply ridiculous. Not a good TV drama choice for Hyun Bin. Oh well. Life isn't made of prefect decisions only. Hope he has better luck of a script next time.

I simply can drop this honestly because those 4 are enough already but Hyun Bin's comeback what I'm waiting for. And I'm surprise to see their chemistry on screen since they've met in "The King's Wrath". Like what happened? Bad directing?

Like everyone else, I'm watching this show for Hyun Bin and his dimples, which means I'll suspend my disbelief in this mess farther than normal. The writers were VERY MUCH aware of this, hence no dimples until the very end of episode 2. So the gorilla, the multiple zip line occasions, chaebol dad's wig, I'm willing to let slide. But the LAZINESS of having that girl drop the picture right there for evil cousin...wait, wha??!! REALLY??!!...and we are only on episode 4.

@Jubilaya,
The actor who plays his father plays every evil chaebol father or grandfather. It's always the same role, and he plays it the same way. He could have just phoned it in or they could just use footage from his previous dramas. No one would know the difference. Yes, the actor has very little hair and that's a toupee.

Dropping a most valued photo of her crush--That's the height of lazy writing, and like u said, it's only ep 4! And the writer of this webtoon is jumping up and down and yelling at the top of his lungs that his work is being plagiarised by the team of KMHM! Pfffft! I think not.

Tho, what's it with KDs that every other one has to be about chaebols, chaebol families, chaebol fathers and sons, chaebol step sons, chaebol cousins, chaebol stepmothers and mistresses! How often does anyone deal with a chaebol person in RL? Give it a rest already.

I don't LOVE this show but i do enjoy the cheesiness very much. Some moments are really cringe-worthy but it's good to have dramas like this once in a while.
I even subconciously cried for a little, I don't even remember why I did. When i caught myself i was like...wtf why am i crying?!
no....wait....could it be?! I have robin living inside of me too?
Ok just kidding.
I find the family problems really boring though. Typical angry dad. and i was wondering, who is that guy who is trying to steal GSJ's job?? what is his relation to him? did they mention it?

Does anyone know if the name( or the music itself) of the instrumental that has been playing during the HJM episodes has been released ? For example we hear it towards the end of ep3 -during SeoJin-Robin 's " dialogue" ^_^

And with all the respect :I hope, at least, on the upcoming recaps of HJM the commentating of viewers will be more on the drama itself and not a comparison "war "with KMHM ...or a " war " if/why HB is overestimated as an actor or not ...if /why he got the offer for KMHM and turned it down due to whatever reason ...if/why he did that ...if/why he did this ...if/why if/why if/why
Of course I am not saying that a critique on the acting/storytelling /choices or comparison should not be expressed but I get the feeling that it got out of hand at a certain point and extent .Just my personal thought ;-)
I am watching and enjoying both shows and will wait until the last episode to make my final judgement for each one and how the actors did their job ^_^
Certainly a show can be a better one than another one ....but that doesn't mean that the "less good" is not good -at all - ;-)

You spoke my mind. I see that everyone has the right to voice their opinions, but some people here take it to an extent that it is rude. It is like Hyun Bin, Han Ji Min, the writer, the PD, even the show itself has done something bad to them personally, while all they are trying to do is entertain us with their work. It is really sad, though.

I've seen 4 episodes. I like all
I like the theme treated.
I like actors, I like their interpretation. I saw secret garden. Each drama is beautiful in its own way. I wonder: Why should all be the same? I read all the comments and we concluded that, however well Han Ji Min will interpret everything you comment. I wonder if another actress, for example your favorite actress , you would be as critical?
Or she would be perfect?

Does it make me a die hard fan if I feel like pulling a knife on those trying to diss Hyun bin and what's with the comparisons with kill me heal me,it's taking out the joy of reading comments.
Also people acting means exactly that ACTING,so I don't see why an actor would refuse to take on a role, because it requires different roles,I mean come on.. A bad actor can do this, an average actor can do this and a very good actor can do this.So citing difficulty as reason doesn't fly for me.can we please stop making assumptions yet we don't really know why Hyun bin chose this over kmhm that is if he was really offered the part.

I adore Hyun Bin & wow this part shows his dramatic range! But the script seems weak, and the pace awfully slow. Altho' HJM was funny, sunny, adorable & strong in Rooftop Prince, it isn't workin for me here. She seems a bit tired and subdued half the time, and the director & script don't give her much chance to sparkle in The Hyun Bin Show. She's so pretty but IMO she doesn't look good in overheavy overlong reddish hair. This woman supposedly flew a trapeze for Cirque deSoleil?! Then why aren't we seeing more guts, flair, and kickass stunts from her circus character? And not much charm in the circus troupe--bland--and it woulda been a perfect place for fun characters! The special effect of the crazy fall into water in Ep 1 was SO COOL--but the rope escape from the roof in Ep 2? Seriously!? I watched it twice and there was no attempt to establish anything they could've been hanging from and there was no sign of the slightest physical exertion to hold onto the rope or each other. And where did the rope come from. I'm not a fan of the back-and-forth from drama to cartoon silliness. Overall, I'm not feelin much excitement or sizzling chemistry--so far. But I'll keep watching because I LOVE these lead actors. Fighting!!

I must be one of the few who actually prefers HJM over KMHM. Maybe it's because I'm not much of Ji Sung fan (sacrilege I know). I'm a male from the U.S., so I guess I wouldn't really be his target demographic. Women seem to really dig him. On the other hand, although I had never even heard of Hyun Bin before this show, I really like him as a male lead. And the female lead is very good as well.

people should STOP comparing this to SeGa. And I think it's the main reason why people think it's a disappointment.
Yeah, the plot maybe seem slow for the first four episodes, but seems like it's looking like it will move forward in fifth episodes, I think people should give this drama a chance

And people should stop criticizing HJM. She also does a great job with that she's given. But I think the script should develop HaNa's character more, because what I've seen so far is her as a plot device only. I want to know more about her job, her past, her character. I love SJ, but I want to know the more established HaNa as a character

And people who are hating HJM, friendly reminder that she's an accomplished actress who's been in the business for 10 years. There's no use comparing her to HJW (again, this comparison with SeGa should stop. I love that drama, but let's stop making it sounds like a masterpiece in a lifetime.)
