Healer: Episode 13

Big movements ahead! As fun as it was to watch Bong-sookie being jealous of himself, it’s time for life to step it up and throw bigger frustrations in his path, which are equal parts entertaining and angst-inducing. Plus, with the outing of some truths come new unanswered questions, throwing our characters off-balance as they try to figure out how to juggle what they want to know with what they can stand to know.

EPISODE 13 RECAP

Backing up a few moments, we rejoin Jung-hoo’s mother as she is approached by Secretary Oh at the restaurant. She lies that she’s been out of contact with her son for a decade, and says she’s here to meet a friend. Secretary Oh offers to wait with her, and when Mom nervously excuses herself to visit the restroom, he swipes her cell phone.

Aha, so Mom’s not in danger after all, and she slips out the back. But Jung-hoo doesn’t know that, since her phone is tracked to Secretary Oh’s car, and he charges into the trap willingly. He fights the SS thugs in the parking garage until he’s hit with a tranq dart, then goes on the run, making it up the stairs to the roof.

That’s where he gets shoved aside, his Healer trappings stripped from him in a flash: It’s Teacher, and he dons Jung-hoo’s cap, glasses, and bloodied jacket, even cutting his arm to make the impersonation credible.

So when Yo-Yo and his posse order Healer to show himself, Teacher meets their incredulous faces with a sheepish grin. He says, “Whoops, I’ve been caught.”

Min-ja calls Young-shin and asks her to search the premises for Bong-soo, who is likely injured. Young-shin scours the area and heads down to the parking garage just in time to see the SS gang screeching out.

Young-shin overhears Detective Yoon reporting over the phone that somebody’s been caught, then spots the drops of blood on the floor. So when Min-ja calls back, she tells her frantically that Bong-soo must have been taken away by the goons.

But Ajumma tells her firmly that Bong-soo isn’t moving, so he’s hidden somewhere on the premises. Young-shin asks suspiciously how Min-ja knows, but time is of the essence and Ajumma entreats her to hurry. So Young-shin continues the search, and when she recalls Bong-soo saying he likes high places, she heads upward.

She makes it to the rooftop, where traces of blood lead her to Jung-hoo, slumped in a corner. She hurries to cradle him in her lap, covering him in her coat. In tears, she calls emergency services for help, begging them to hurry.

Jung-hoo is taken to the emergency room, where the doctors are more concerned with his unconsciousness than his bleeding, wondering if he took drugs. While he’s treated, Young-shin calls ajumma’s number, only to get a recording that it doesn’t exist.

Sitting at his bedside, Young-shin asks Jung-hoo to wake up, since she’s bursting with questions she wants to ask. Jokingly, she hovers in front of his face and sing-songs, “Bong-sook-ah, wake up~”

His eyes start to flutter open, and she sits up excitedly. He sees her blurrily and murmurs her name, holding his hand out to her. She takes it, and immediately he appears to sink back into sleep, although his hand keeps a tight grip on hers—and once again she’s reminded of her handhold with the Healer.

Last time she shook away the thought, but today’s circumstances have her brain whirling differently… and she thinks of the little details that now fall into place… like Healer asking how many pills she took, and Bong-soo handing her those pills.

She drops his hand in shock and rears back, seeing him through new eyes. She runs to his car and starts searching for clues, and comes upon a little case. Inside, she finds a tiny folded paper star—it’s the star she made while chatting on the phone with Bong-soo, sighing about the Healer not coming to her. Jung-hoo, you hopeless romantic.

She recalls his confession on the rooftop, when he’d told her he could live “in the appearance you want, for a long time, being very careful, next to you.” It sounds different in the context of knowing, doesn’t it?

When she returns to the hospital, Jung-hoo’s awake and changing into clothing brought by Dae-yong, who takes the first opportunity to excuse herself from this awkward scenario. Jung-hoo freezes at the sight of Young-shin, knowing he’ll have to make a convincing explanation, and also that he doesn’t have one.

So Jung-hoo says lamely that he took some sleeping pills that kicked in late. His arm injury, then, “is because I fell asleep… and… tripped.” It’s super unconvincing, and they both know it.

Young-shin asks how Dae-yong knew he’d be here. He doesn’t have an answer, and after a moment Young-shin offers him the excuse, saying that she got a call from someone who might be his mother, and that she was so preoccupied she forgot to call back. His mother must’ve searched all the hospitals in the area.

Jung-hoo asks if this gave her a scare, and apologizes when she says it did.

It certainly feels like they both know that they’re lying to each other, playacting this scene because they don’t know how else to handle it. As he starts to leave, she stops him to ask that he’ll be back in the office tomorrow, like she’s scared he won’t be. He signals yes.

She holds it together until he leaves, and then her tears spill over.

In the car ride, Jung-hoo hears from Min-ja that his mother is safe at home. That’s a relief, but he’s upset that Teacher got taken in. A sudden thought makes him check that the paper star is still in its case, and he’s relieved to find it there.

Jung-hoo ignores ajumma’s directive to rest and orders the car to Moon-shik’s home. The bastard messed with his mother and Young-shin: “So I have to make sure he can’t.” Ajumma asks if he means to give him a beating like he did to Hwang, but Jung-hoo growls, “I’ll kill him.”

Ajumma and Dae-yong both refuse to take him there, so Jung-hoo forces Dae-yong out of the car. She’s pretty tough and fights back, but he gets the upper hand and is ready to charge after the baddie.

It’s a good thing Dae-yong isn’t afraid to challenge him, and she has the keys. She shoves the phone in his face so Min-ja can yell some sense into him, about how he can go ahead and kill whomever he likes—but does that mean he’s ready to give up ever seeing Young-shin again? They need to find out why Young-shin was targeted, and don’t forget that Young-shin’s mother lives in that house.

Frustrated, Jung-hoo beats the steering wheel. But at least he’s been stopped.

At home, Young-shin’s strange behavior has her father and ajusshi worried. She stares vacantly for a while, and then the tears have them really alarmed.

“Dad,” she says brokenly, “that jerk deceived me all this time. Everything single thing he said in front of me was a lie. And I didn’t know and told him everything.” But she couldn’t confront him, “Because if I told him I knew, he might just leave. Because I might not see him again, I couldn’t say anything. And I can’t not see him again—I can’t handle that.”

Dad doesn’t press for an explanation, but he and ajusshi are both curious about the source of her heartbreak. Ajusshi knows she has two crushes, but doesn’t think this is about either one. Instead, his mind fixes on Bong-soo—Young-shin doesn’t confide her feelings even to them, “but she does to that dummy.” So he’s the one.

Dad brings her a warm drink later, and Young-shin asks why he chose her, pointing out, “I’m difficult to love.” There were lots of more lovable kids at the orphanage, but she was a difficult child.

Dad laughs as he recounts her difficult traits, but says he didn’t take her: “I just waited, and you came.” He explains sitting there quietly until she took his hand first, and so he brought her home. He says he was prepared to wait longer, but she came to him faster than he thought, reminding her that she’s not very stubborn.

She leans her head against Dad’s shoulder and assures him that she’s very nearly done crying.

Watching the CCTV feed, Min-ja sees Moon-shik and his guards arriving at SS headquarters… and then moments later, a couple more cars pull up. She chuckles upon recognizing Detective Yoon and reaches for a cell phone…

Moon-shik is ushered inside to confront the Healer, who has been insisting he’s a good old friend. Moon-shik confirms this and asks for privacy, extending a hand that Teacher cheerfully rejects. He sticks to the explanation that he’s been the Healer all along, laughing that it was quite fun taking Moon-shik’s money. Then he asks pointedly, “Is Myung-hee still sleeping? How many hours does she sleep a day?” What an ominous thing to say.

That sends us into a flashback to the hospital in the aftermath of Myung-hee’s accident. Teacher arrives out of the blue, a few months out of prison. Moon-shik greets him warmly, but Teacher’s full of hostility and says openly that Moon-shik’s actions are suspect. He outlines the odd sequence of events: Three bears go out “hunting” for a story and two die. The survivor quits his junkyard and suddenly gains a high position at a newspaper. Moon-shik asks his friend to hear him out, but Teacher’s not having it.

In the present, Moon-shik explains that Jung-hoo came asking about his father, and that kids don’t know “what sacrifices we made” to build up their world. Teacher laughs in his face, but Moon-shik warns, “I will not tolerate the destroying of the peace we’ve preserved in this world. We call those people outlaws. Why do you live as an outlaw?” Teacher makes a claw gesture and retorts, “Because I’m a bear.”

Moon-shik asks if Teacher has teamed up with Moon-ho to dig up the past. Teacher replies that two papa bears have died, leaving behind two mama bears and two bear cubs: “There have to be three bears for the song to work.” Then he sings the childhood ditty about a family of three bears, with Mama, Papa, and Baby.

Moon-shik warns that he’s very angry, and not to make him angrier. Teacher asks, “Were Gil-han and Joon-seok the last people you killed? There are more, aren’t there? But don’t think about messing with the two bear cubs. I’m going to protect them. Because I’m Papa Bear’s friend.”

Detective Yoon and his partners are surprised when patrol cars join them in front of the building. Hearing that they received a report that a kidnapping victim is inside, Detective Yoon is thrilled at the excuse to charge in.

Moon-shik is ushered out the back exit to avoid being seen, and Teacher sings the Three Bears song at his departing back. Moments later, the detectives arrive.

Jung-hoo’s mother is secretly photographed as she meets Jung-hoo in front of her apartment. He’s aware that they’re being watched and tells his mother quietly of the situation. He asks her to act like she’s seeing him for the first time in ten years, and she answers that it’ll be easy to act happy to see him.

They relocate to a cafe, and he apologizes for never giving her his number and only calling when he wanted to see her. But he won’t be able to do that for the time being, he says, to keep Mom safe. She doesn’t protest or ask questions, and they both notice when their stalker enters the cafe and sits nearby. He sets out his cell phone casually, recording their conversation.

So when Jung-hoo’s voice gets hard and he says that today is the last time he’ll be seeing his mother, she goes along with it. He tells her to be happy in her new life and forget him, and that she did him a favor in abandoning him so he could find his own path.

Even though the words are for show, Mom still gets emotional as she apologizes. Jung-hoo issues a cold goodbye, saying that he’ll wrap up his business here and never come back to Korea, but mouths at her not to cry. Then after he leaves, Mom bursts into heaving sobs.

Flashback. Mom watches her (other) son playing on a playground, shocked when a young Jung-hoo arrives and declares, “Found you.” He eyes her with bitterness but she’s only concerned for his health and tries to give him her coat, which he shoves away. Mom falls to her knees sobbing, and then his little half-brother charges up to him and bites his leg, telling him not to make his mother cry.

Only now does he know that Mom has a new family, and that hurts. Jung-hoo says accusingly, “Why can you live with him, but not with me?” Mom just sobs, “I’m sorry,” and Jung-hoo yells at her not to cry, because then he can’t say anything.

As he leaves, a man chases after him to say that it was all his fault, and that he begged Mom to marry him, and that Mom always speaks of Jung-hoo while crying. Jung-hoo looks back to see his mother watching and asks if cries every day. The husband admits that Mom cries easily, and Jung-hoo tells him to make sure she doesn’t anymore.

He knows that the coat the man is carrying is for him, so he just says gruffly that he’ll take it, and walks off having done what little he could to make Mom feel better. Agh, such a little big man, grown up before his time.

Next Jung-hoo goes to Moon-ho, who assures him that nobody will mess with his mother anymore—Moon-shik was only testing whether Jung-hoo was the Healer. He says that his hyung isn’t so low that he’d keep going, which seems like it could be true in this case, but also seems naive of Moon-ho. I hope for his sake he’s right.

Jung-hoo reminds him that his brother used Mom as bait and tried to kill Young-shin. His impatience is at odds with Moon-ho’s infuriating calm, and he demands to know why Young-shin was targeted, intent on ensuring that she’ll never be in danger again. Moon-ho tells him a man named the Elder is the real one pulling the strings, and that’s who they’ll need to go after next.

Jung-hoo asks who this “we” refers to, and Moon-ho replies, “You and me, and probably Young-shin.” Jung-hoo’s not very interested, guessing correctly that Moon-ho’s tactic will be to expose the Elder using the media. Jung-hoo is just interested in finding his father’s police files and getting rid of the evil, to which Moon-ho chuckles that killing one Elder will just lead another to take his place.

Just then, the doorbell rings, and Moon-ho sends Jung-hoo to answer it, saying merely that it’s “the woman I like.” In irritation, Jung-hoo opens the door… and finds Young-shin there. Wait, did Moon-ho just confess his intentions?

They freeze to see each other standing there, the air strained between them. Then Jong-soo joins them, completing the team, though he remains the one leg that’s hopelessly out of the loop.

Moon-shik urges Myung-hee to take her pills and go to sleep, but she decides she wants to spend more time awake. She says it’s fine if she’s in pain, but she wants to do some thinking, since it’s been ages since she’s done any. She starts with twenty years ago, asking about her hospital bills—she was laid up for a year in a VIP room. How did he manage to pay for it all?

He has a ready answer—he sold his junkyard—but Myung-hee says with a cold smile that she’s going over the math. And when he takes her hand, she pulls free again.

Moon-shik doesn’t understand the sudden change, and it unnerves him. The sight of his water glass grabs his attention, and he inches it closer to the edge of the counter, almost in a trance, until he pushes it over the edge. It shatters. Foreshadowing?

Young-shin gets to work on their new story—digging into the background of the next mayoral candidate, aka Moon-shik—and interviews Moon-ho as a part of it. She traces Moon-shik’s trajectory from 1992 till now, finding his sharp rise to media executive quite unusual.

Moon-ho recalls how in those days, a lot of visitors had come by daily—but they weren’t from the media. Jeil Newspaper was on the brink of bankruptcy, but an investment company named Omega bought up shares, and immediately afterward, Moon-shik became president. “Isn’t that interesting?” he asks.

Jung-hoo snatches a moment to connect with Min-ja, worrying about Teacher being held at the police station. He’s ready to charge in to free the old man himself, but Min-ja orders him to stay put, feeling assured that Teacher will take care of himself.

It’s bad enough that Young-shin is distant with him, but now Jung-hoo has to watch her chatting cheerily with the boss and sidekick. Moon-ho assigns them each a stack of research to get through by tomorrow, and ignores Jung-hoo’s protest that he’s busy tonight. Jong-soo, on the other hand, is happy to go home with Young-shin to work together, and Jung-hoo simmers in the background.

So the three reporters head over to the cafe, and Dad welcomes the newcomer. Jong-soo’s eager to impress Dad, to Jung-hoo’s disgruntlement, and Dad and ajusshi try to figure out which guy made Young-shin cry. They’d thought it was Bong-sookie, but seeing her being so friendly to the other guy, they’re no longer sure.

Jung-hoo shoots daggers at Jong-soo (seriously, if looks could kill) as he reads over documents with Young-shin. Finally he heads out in agitation, looking for a drink, and Young-shin finds him there to offer him a choice: east or west. He picks east, and she tells him the result: They’ll stand next to each other for a minute and talk.

He asks what west would’ve gotten him, and when she says a ten-second hug, he immediately turns to her with outstretched arms and says, “I want to switch.”

At least that makes her laugh, and he says he’s relieved, because he thought she was angry with him. She replies, “I’m not angry, I’m holding back.”

“Holding back?” he asks. “Yeah,” she replies, “from wanting to hold hands.”

He stares down at her, surprised. “I want to hug, and talk all night,” she says. “And kiss too.” Omg. He’s stunned speechless, and then Young-shin clarifies, “I want to do that with him, but I’m holding back.”

Ah, boo. Note that in Korean, it totally sounded like she meant she wanted to do those things with Bong-soo, until that last part. I’m sure that ambiguity was intentional, too—it’s her small way of expressing her feelings while preserving his facade.

When she moves away, Jung-hoo stops her and comes around to face her, like he’s going to say something… do something… But then he shakes his head, unable to take it any further.

“He still hasn’t come,” Young-shin says. Jung-hoo says, “He’ll have a reason.” She agrees, but says the guy is still a jerk. And thus, even though she’ll wait for him, “Still, it makes me furious.”

He acknowledges that, and for a brief second, Young-shin rests her forehead on his shoulder. He reaches up to touch her, but she pulls away and moves past, their hands barely brushing. And then Jung-hoo reaches back wildly to grab for her, but only gets empty air. He looks crushed.

In the morning, Min-ja catches a glimpse of suspicious activity on her security monitor: Secretary Oh meeting someone. We don’t see him clearly, but she seems to recognize him.

Teacher eats breakfast in custody, and Detective Yoon arrives to interrogate him, starting with the name Jo Min-ja. Teacher feigns ignorance but Detective Yoon isn’t fooled, since Min-ja, his former sunbae, is listed as visiting Teacher in prison five times. She taught him all about hacking, and yesterday he encountered a familiar pattern.

Teacher smiles and says he’ll have to surrender himself: “I am the Healer.”

Outside the station, a police officer drops something in to a trash can, and the camera lingers on a small glass vial. Hmm.

Min-ja calls Jung-hoo once she’s recognized the man who met Secretary Oh—one of Detective Yoon’s minions. Crap, so an insider at the station is in cahoots with the baddies. At that, Jung-hoo starts running.

Teacher gives his statement, giving the basics of his Healer activities, and volunteers to start with the most recent and work backward. He fidgets with his collar and adds, “I don’t have much time.” Shit, what was in that vial? Shit, what was in his breakfast?

Young-shin continues her research and comes upon a happy photo of Moon-shik and his wife. She lingers on Myung-hee’s face, though she doesn’t quite know why yet.

Teacher offers up information readily about his latest work being for Moon-shik, confirming that he’s acquainted with the cases of Go Sung-chul and President Hwang.

But suddenly, he begins foaming at the mouth, even though it doesn’t wipe the smile from his face. “I told you,” Teacher gurgles. “I don’t have much time.”

His head drops onto his chest. Detective Yoon tears out of the room to get help.

Jung-hoo hurries to the police station and sees the ambulance out front. A body is wheeled out on a gurney, a sheet pulled over its head. An arm falls limply from under the sheet, revealing the telltale wound on Teacher’s arm.

COMMENTS

Noooooo, not you, OG Healer! At first I wondered if he’d poisoned himself, but upon consideration I think it’s likelier that Teacher recognized the symptoms kicking in and decided he would confess before he died. I was angry with him for the way he abandoned Jung-hoo, but I’ve grown really fond of him, and found his combination of smiling facade and seething undertone to be really compelling. This drama has done a fantastic job casting everybody’s past counterparts and Teacher is one of the highlights, where you can really see how one grew into the other. His constant grin can be aggravating sometimes, particularly when Jung-hoo’s dying for him to be serious, but it’s completely in line with his character—and as an added bonus, it’s gratifying to see how much it pisses Moon-shik off.

That scene with the old friends was one of my favorites, and it’s because Teacher is so glib that it’s powerful when he lets that steeliness show through, as he did when he vowed to protect the bear cubs. He may not have foreseen that he was walking into his death when he took Jung-hoo’s place, but it was still moving to see how he took on his fate anyway. Maybe it even satisfied him to think he died via poison that might’ve taken Jung-hoo instead. In that way, Jung-hoo’s two closest loved ones have both shoved him away to protect him, and it’s extra poignant (and yes, frustrating too) that they would willingly accept the smaller pain to spare him a greater one. The fact that he’ll learn this far after the fact feels like one of those great sorrows of growing up—you don’t appreciate things until it’s too late to take back your reaction. But that’s life.

It seems likely that Moon-shik gave the order to kill Teacher after their face-to-face, which adds another to his body count tally. Sigh. It’s interesting to see that in the flashback scene, Moon-shik may even have had an explanation that made some kind of sense—it doesn’t absolve him of his decision to sell his soul, but I do believe that at one time, his heart was in the right place. And funny enough, I feel like if the five friends had remained alive, Moon-shik wouldn’t have been tempted away to the dark side, because even if he didn’t have everything he wanted and his thirst for greater things in life remained unfulfilled, the friendships would have been enough. But once that cracked, Moon-shik lost the shield of their influence, and then it’s just been bad choice after bad choice.

I find Moon-shik a nicely shaded character who doesn’t strike me as being a one-note villain, but admittedly he’s getting eviller and eviller, enough that I have little sympathy for his actions. I got chills at the suggestion that he might be doping Myung-hee on purpose, to keep her insensate and caged at his side. Prior to this episode I thought he was taking advantage of her condition to keep her housebound, selfishly but with good intentions. It didn’t strike me that he would medicate her so heavily that she would spend most of her time asleep—and that’s particularly creepy, because it suggests that he wants her as a possession, not a partner. If he’s truly just trying to keep her pain-free, then maybe he’s not quite the devil incarnate. But now I can’t shake the idea that he’s keeping her on needless drugs so that she doesn’t think for herself, and that makes me shudder.

Moving on: Young-shin knows!!!! I wasn’t sure what I wanted of her reaction to the discovery, but it was interesting to me that she was more betrayed by Bong-soo than she was excited to know who her Healer was. Granted that could just be that shock is the first reaction, and she’ll come around to gladness next. But it makes sense that she was hurt by Bong-soo, because she’d poured out her heart to him in a way that was much more intimate than the moments she’d spent with the Healer.

I loved that Young-shin told Jung-hoo that she was angry with him, because while we all know (and are waiting for the day when) she’ll forgive him eventually, the ends don’t justify the means—that’s not a good enough excuse. It matters how you do things, and it matters that she’s hurt in the process, and even though she recognizes that she won’t stop having faith in him, she won’t postpone her feelings just because he isn’t ready to explain himself yet.

So I loved that little moment when they brushed by each other, wanting to touch but not emotionally ready yet. I appreciate that as much as we want them to just shove aside the logic and take everything out into the open, there are credible reasons for why they haven’t gotten to that point. In the meantime, they’ll speak in veiled comments about some mythical third person, and I’m excited to see more of that because those double-entendre conversations can be so revealing—where they’re speaking about one person but meaning another (…although okay, Healer and Bong-soo are still the same guy). Ironically enough, the false front can allow them the freedom to be honest about their feelings in a way they can’t be in a plainspoken way, and that is never a bad thing.

I'm curious who/where is jung-hoo's younger brother and whether they have a connection/relationship as brothers. I think it would be fun if he's brother is brought into the picture and becomes his sidekick or whatever. Jung-hoo certainly needs it now that teacher is gone.

I don't think they even communicate with one another. Jung Hoo's half-brother was briefly shown before (ep 4), during JH's visit to his mom in front of her apartment. He seems to be your typical hard-headed high school kid. I doubt he's even aware of his older brother's existence. Or if he is, maybe he doesn't care much.

In line with this, Mom's new husband seemed like a nice guy in the flashback this ep. But how come Mom made him sound worse during her talk with Jung Hoo (ep 4 too)? She says he 'doesn't stop drinking' and 'it would be difficult for her to keep mementos of her former family inside the house'. Hmmmm.

@Omomo
Nice catch. He does sound like a different man from the flashback. Maybe circumstance has changed him. The show probably won't touch him as a character any more though. Too many things are going on.

You know what would be cool? What if at the end of the series, JH's half-brother becomes the new Healer! :)

Omg yes! That would be awesome, I can't wait to see Healer 3.0 working with Ahjumma and detective (if joins our gang too) while JH finally gets to retire from his Healer life.

Wouldn't it be even better if Dae Young is the new Healer, rather than JH's so far unknown brother? We know Dae Young rocks and she has one foot in the door already!

Dae Young, hwaiting! :-D

Ooomph. Teacher's death.... Healer is going to take that hard especially since he'll blame himself completely.

I find it interesting that Moon-ho still believes that his brother has rules he abides by in this rat-race. Wonder if that comes from trusting his brother or his need to explain his inaction over the years.

Oh noo.... Is Moon-shik really doping Myung-hee? His only redemptive characteristic was how attentive he was to her needs...

And I just love the romance here. So perfectly well-done. For once I understand the male leader's hesitation - not out of noble causes but she can become an accessory to his crimes if she finds out his identity. Very understandable. Also I love how Young-shin waits for him even though she hates it and had her heart broken...

I'm not sure if he's actually doping her. It might be just a convenient situation for MS, where she is in so much pain that the only way to cope is to rest and perhaps under medication is the only way she could rest totally well. And you know how some people just follow doctor's orders and it keeps her calm and under his care. However, Myung Hee is taking control of her situation for once since her injuries and MS is properly afraid that the more she thinks, the more things will fall apart for him.

1. Not sure about Moon-shik ordering the hit on Teacher. Teacher's appearance as Healer definitely threw a wrench in MS's world. Another damned unforeseen uncontrollable variable.

2. If MS didn't order the hit, the most important decision in his life is coming up fast. He is already sensing his world may be crumbling. He was sure that he could protect those he cared about the most. But, they are more than willing to sacrifice themselves for the children. Eliminate the children, or try to protect them all by taking on Elder? Someone else may have to die to "help" MS choose. The closer to the end, the closer the person to him.

3. Will Jung-hoo finally learn that charging head-in is often not the best method?

4. I knew Young-shin would have the hardest time dealing with Bong-soo's deceptions. I hope she will always be the one with veto power in this relationship.

"I hope she will always be the one with veto power in this relationship."

ROFL I'm pretty sure she will. JH loves her so much. He'd be willing to follow her to the ends of the earth if need be.

Yup. If there were ever a chance for him to pull the Healer-your-life-saver card, it has gotten much slimmer.

Yup agreed. He loves her very much to the point of even wanting to take her all for himself to that island so no other human beings can touch or harm her.

5. If MS did order the hit, Moon-ho must reevaluate his strategies. I'm sure that Moon-ho is counting on MS deflecting the worst of Elder's attacks.

6. Also not sure about MS deliberately doping Myung-hee. Only because he wouldn't risk turning her into an addict, right? Those things are almost always habit-forming and their effectiveness decreases the more one uses.

@Snickers Your Comment #2: I had the same thought this morning, thinking what would snap MS out of his misguided way of life and the piles of bad choices he has made? Another person close to him has to die? I think it would either be MH or MH? Hahahah, both characters' initials are the same! I mean, would it be Myung Hee or Moon Ho? I pray that neither is on the writer-nim's hitlist but I think for MS to realize the graveness of his bad deeds, one of them may be killed off. It seems right now that his wife's changing loyalty or death might affect MS the most but it just pushes him to clutch at the straws even more desperately. I think it will be his younger brother's death that will cause MS to realize he has truly sold his soul to the Devil-incarnate (Elder). Sometimes, one does not realize how important a loved one is, despite or in spite of him being more often a thorn on one's side, until he's truly gone. I think MS does gather some confidence and courage (misguided tho, of course) that Moon Ho is (unwillingly) still by his side, in silence all these years. So the time has come for 'lil bro to speak up and face his (maybe) doom. Aaahhh, the Moon bros are so tragic!

However it happens, MS will fall, hopefully taking the Elder with him.

Thinking about the future in a pragmatic way.
Myung-hee will lose all her medical care. The assets that Moon-ho has in his name will be gone too. Jung-hoo has enough cash to pay for her medical expenses. Moon-ho seems the logical choice to become her primary caretaker in order for the children, mainly Young-shin, to realize her life ambitions. If Myung-hee lives, Moon-ho must live?

Ep 14 preview has Min-jae. Will she sacrifice her career or will she sacrificed?

Yes, of course Elder@Devil-incarnate has to go. And btw, I like your pragmatic mind, especially JH providing the money. Let me offer an alternative: how about JH as the primary caretaker? He's certainly shown to have a warm heart towards the women he loves (CYS, Mom and Ahjumma). But yeah, definitely a far cry from being the badass Healer.

Well Min-jae will probably sacrifice sth towards the end but I don't think it will make such a big impact on MS's downward trajectory. Although, it might lit some hidden fire under MH's feet. That would be interesting to see.

@autleaf

If YS wants to be a world-traveling journalist, there seems no way JH would just stay home and take care of mother-in-law. However, did he even finish high school? Maybe he should stay put for a while, get some education and attend anger management sessions.

Min-jae comes to mind because for Moon-shik to do what he does while still capable of suffering from guilty conscience, he must have a tremendous ability to rationalize. When Healer forced him turn over the murderer to the police, he didn't come up with someone himself, he went to Elder when any lackey might suffice. To him, those he ordered killed were bad people or criminals, Healer being a criminal. Those Elder wanted dead on his behalf because they could adversely affect how he does his job. He may not be happy about it but he understands it.

Min-jae is kind of like who he was. A competent, obedient company person climbing the corporate ladder. She's like an his ally when it comes to dealing with Moon-ho. If she becomes Elder's target, Moon-shik may have a difficult time rationalize this away. It depends on whether Teacher's death has shaken MS to the point where just a little irrationality is enough.

Thank you for the recap, Javabeans! I had no idea you got an email every time a comment is posted...jeez, it must be one boatload of craziness for the Healer recaps! -.-

Young-shin finally put two & two together...! While that undoubtedly opens another can of worms, I'm glad that she's now discovering Jung-hoo's identity. The way she was freaking out over Bong-soo's disappearance, and to have Min-ja call her out of the blue to find him...definitely raised red flags, and staying by his bedside at the hospital just further confirmed her suspicions (how much did I like that she held his hand, and the flashback to the date??).

Why is it that whenever I hear the Three Bears ditty in Korean, it reminds me of Master's Sun and Joong-won's deadpan delivery? :P But seriously though -- in the midst of being captured by the SS thug wannabes and in the face of Moon-shik, Sabo had the awesome audacity to sing-song the ditty in Moon-shik's face while talking about Jung-hoo, Young-shin and their dads. I especially loved it when he iterated, "Leave the two baby bears alone. I'm going to protect them, because I'm Papa Bear...'s friend." Undoubtedly a knock on Moon-shik, and I'm glad he did that -- although that probably sealed his fate and led to his unfortunate demise. I had to rewatch it again to catch the cop (? or one of Moon-shik's lackeys?) ditch that vial in the trash. Much kudos to Detective Yoon for keeping things under close guard *sarcasm* Always a step too late, and a step off the mark.

How creepy is that Myung-hee hasn't really thought for herself in so long?! I, too, thought she was being drugged because of her condition, not because Moon-shik wanted her to be incapacitated and not able to think for herself...further driving home the point that he simply sees her as a possession and not a person, much less his own wife. Good gosh. While I'm glad that Jung-hoo's mom gave her the heads up, now I'm fearing that her acts of "defiance" towards Dear Hubby is gonna get her in a life or death situation, seeing as how Moon-shik has been "taking care of business."

One question though: today wasn't the first time Jung-hoo met with his mother recently...? I got a bit confused, because she recognized him off the bat.

@ Tara JH meets his Mom regularly - they were just putting on an act for the spy (Moon Shik's lackey) because JH had told Moon Shik that he'd just returned from Russia and his Mom also told Secretary Oh that she hadn't seen her son in 10 years.

And from what I saw, wasn't the cop the same fella who's been stalking JH, taking photos? That's what I thought anyway (although his scenes were so brief, I might have been mistaken).

@rainerust: I knew that their meeting at the cafe was to throw off Moon-shik's spy.

I guess I never really caught that they'd meet up regularly. I think I'm gonna have to re-watch earlier episodes because I can't believe I'd miss a major detail like that! Thank you for the help :)

As for the cop..I wasn't sure but I had thought that Moon-shik's spy looked like the guy tailing Jung-hoo, I can't remember the cop's face.

The meeting in this episode is not the first in the present time frame. Am not sure if they meet regularly, but in an earlier episode, Healer had to see his mom to ask about the 5 friends in the photo.

Later the mom was shown looking through a box of mementoes and one photo showed little Ji-An and Jung-hoo asleep on the floor, she holding on to her arm. The way they slept was very similar to that scene when Bong Soo first slept in CYS's house, she on the sofa, he sitting on the floor and leaning on the sofa, her arm holding on to his.

I think this photo will resurface in a later episode.

@dramabliss I think the regular meetings were implied - of course 'regular' being a very loose definition of the term - because he apologised to his Mom as well about how they can only ever meet when he contacts her (so I think he sets the parameters for their meetings and she's the one who strives to meet as and when he can) and yet she never complains or asks him about anything, or demand more than that. At least, that was my impression from the conversation they had (which...may not be entirely accurate, considering I don't actually speak Korean LOL) and I don't get the sense that they meet super OFTEN, but definitely once in a while.

So much for love for the parents in this episode! Jung Hoo’s mom and Young Shin's dad are so understanding and don’t pester their children with questions. They’re aware of the distress that their children are facing but they continue to pour out their trust and protection for them. The same goes for the teacher, even though Young Shin and Jung Hoo are not his own blood, he’s willing to go all out to protect them.

His death is heartbreaking. Jung Hoo lost another “father” and if they kill ahjumma too, I don’t know what I’m gonna do. That east/west scene though bittersweet is beautiful and feels-inducing. It was so adorable seeing Jung Hoo’s jealous side! There better be lots of laughter tomorrow after all the tears in this episode! I can only hope.

The quiet understanding was precious, especially on appa's part. Mom on the other hand kind of has to, she abandoned her son (even if for good reason at the time) so her guilt makes her try to make it up to JH by letting him do his thing.

If they kill ajumma I think JH would go beserk. He's already being pushed close to his limit...

What I really liked about this episode are all the layered conversations that take place between CYS and JH, that works on multiple fronts. There was the one where he woke up and apologised to her, and that have been sorry for giving her a scare, but also sorry that she had to find out his real identity like this; when she replies that he DID give her a scare, that was a reference to both finding him in a pool of blood, but also realising he was Healer. And that was just the start of the episode! The conversation between Moon Shik and Young Jae (and the analogy of the three bears, and the bear cubs) was also super compelling, and c'mon, who didn't weep tears in the conversation between JH and his mom (where, even though the words were 'fake', they were also very, very 'real' for his mom)??

And, YESSSS the emotional payoff! I like the way CYS is handling the reveal and how she's both playing it cool since she's hurt and furious, but how she's waiting for him to come clean and come to her (vis-a-vis the revelation after the chat with her Dad on why he picked her to be adopted) and we ALL know she will forgive him (there is NO other way!). Plus, I thought it was hilarious that the last episode, JH was cockblocking himself, and now in this episode, CYS was using JH's alter-ego to cockblock himself. LOL.

Well said.

This is the best kind of angst. YS's just letting JH know that she's here for him when he's ready to be completely honest with her. She's giving him time and space without being pushy.

Required fields are marked *

@dramapenchant Yeah, I liked how she was obviously hurt and furious with him, and that she sobbed her eyes out over the pain of him lying to her...but that she also came to understand that all she really had to do was to wait for him to be ready to come to her. This kind of understanding really guts me because it was in line with both the character's personality, but also in line with the narrative development. Ahhh, I really enjoy it when a drama gets this balance right, because often it can swing in one way or another.

@Rainrust and @dramapenchant

Totally right on the balance.
Its testament to the writing on how great this balance was preserved even when its all out in the open.
Most dramas handle it until the reveal , after that i somehow lose the touch with characters because the fallout was not handled properly or given enough weight.
Here its JUST RIGHT.

I think it's obvious that Bong Soo DOES know that Young Shin knows he's Healer - despite feeling momentarily safe when he found the little paper star still in the car - her words and actions at the cafe are TOO sudden for her to suddenly be falling for Bong Soo. He knows she's referring to him as Healer. This is delicious - the way she's going to wait until he comes to her and she's going to tease and torment him slightly. Her dad revealed that to her. This is wonderful.
And for everyone who's been mad at Teacher for supposedly abandoning JH when he was 20, I've thought since that departure scene that Teacher was deliberately leaving JH because his training was done and now he needed to learn how to be a man, be alone, take responsibility for himself and not rely on Teacher. This was perfectly done by Teacher to make JH grow up fully and be ready to face his enormous responsibilities as the new Healer.

Now that KMS and by proxy the Elder may think they have succeeded in killing Healer, how will Jung Hoo be able to show himself as Healer again? Maybe Bong Sookie needs to be more badass but in a Bong Soo way, like when he calculated the toppling of the shelves in President Huang's greenhouse. Healer actions and reactions while disguised as nerdy Bong Soo.

So sad about Teacher. The reveal this week that teacher saved JH wasn't a surprise. But then to kill him off so quickly? Without even being able to explain to JH? So sad! Jung Hoo was unconscious and probably didn't even know Teacher sacrificed himself and was caught in JH's place. Now the realization is going to break his heart. Even though he felt angry and abandoned by the Teacher, he'll realize teacher's sacrifice and it will break his heart!

Thinking back to his misguided angst "Why do I cause others so much pain?" Oomph. It going to be time for Kleenex. And then he'll want to get revenge and be all impulsive. Will YS be his comfort? Will Minja be able to stop him again?

Looking forward to eng subs! Thanks JB for the recaps!!

1.) I'm late, and haven't read through all the comments yet, so this has probably been said before, but can I just say I love Young Shin? I'm so glad the drama didn't go the typical way, with her being angry and avoiding him or something of the sort. True, she's angry and has every right to be, but she knows that she still loves him and can't be without him. The revelation was perfect, and that scene at the cafe. It was beautiful, them talking without revealing the truth explicitly. JH knows that she knows, doesn't he? The longing on both their faces...*sigh* The scene was charged for sure.

I have mixed feelings about YS's decision to wait however. I understand that she's giving him his space and being understanding. But there's a part of me that so wishes that she would dig a little deeper and discover all these past connections- and as MH says, join them in unraveling the mysteries of the past.

2.) JH wants to tell her so badly. I don't think he wants for anything besides to just live a happy life by her side, with those he loves and cherishes beside him. How many times this man has been abandoned, and yet how big of a heart he has to still have a capacity for loving, as dreamingsnowflake said (her analyses are so wonderful!)

Quite honestly, in the first episode, I thought he was a jerk, but wow did he prove me wrong. It's almost unbelievable that someone who could've turned out so scarred and untrusting is actually risking it and giving it his all for his love. And this is why I feel so sorry for him. He's losing the few people he does have who he loves and who love him reciprocally. How this guy is able to keep moving is beyond me.

3.) Man, do I love seeing Teacher here. His steely self versus his playful manner is kind of awesome to see. He's someone who would keep you on your toes and send mixed messages as to what he's saying. Gah, Sabo, why did you have to go? Teacher may have not been the best in the past, but this was definitely a redeeming moment for him. It's just so sad that after his claim to protect the two little ones, he had to go. (i'm tearing up writing this). Teacher did love JH, I just think he was wrong in his decisions concerning JH. Our JH is loved not by many, but those who do love him have an overflowing sea of love for him.
And now I'm back to choking up cause of Teacher again.

I did not plan on writing all that. It wasn't even supposed to be numbered. I still have much more thinking to do on this episode, so I'll see if I'm able to come back and write more.

I think she got the waiting advice from Dad during their nighttime talk. "Give the person some time, and they will come to you willingly. Maybe even faster than you expect them to."

With only 7 episodes left, this may be the start of the collaboration between our three leads towards uncovering the truth. Moon Ho's already starting to spearhead this with his quest to take down his hyung (and in extension, Elder), and even mentioned his plans to Jung Hoo (before YS and Jong Soo arrived).

Looking forward to more from you, Sky! ;)

What do you all think about the potential romantic line I've been seeing from the beginning between Myung Hee and Moon Ho? He adores her and has since childhood. It looks like she is about 7-8 years older than MH - and he is such a manly man. It would be natural for him to sweep her away from her evil husband and cherish her the way she deserves.
This would be a lovely development.....and there was some sort of little spark between YS's dad and the woman who nearly jumped off the roof. Hmmmm.....I really love the perfection of how YS is treating Bong Soo now. This tension could be lovely for a couple more episodes!

I've actually been shipping him with his ex-girlfriend lol. But I'm fine with him being single too. I think his noona is just someone he really loves in a familial way, someone who he was able to open his heart to in the past, someone who would listen to his burdens. They seem to have quite a bit of an age difference though, since in the flashbacks, MH looks around 9 or 8? And she was in university back then. (please correct me if I am wrong.) Still, I wouldn't mind a love line between them too much, although I'd prefer for him to remain single.

But remember, he had told his ex that his first love would always be first in his heart (and the implication was that he'd always carry a torch for Myung-hee).

Poor things, their hearts are about to get ripped to shreds. My main concern is that both MHs make it out of the coming showdown alive. Assuming they do, Show may leave the door open for a MH + MH love line, but I doubt we'll see it unless there's a time jump.

Required fields are marked *

A possible love-line between the two MHs did cross my mind. Moon-Ho's comment about a "first love" to the ex-girlfriend was ambiguous, though. I don't know if it should be interpreted as romantic attachment or just familial attachment.

I think the reason why Moon Ho could not move on from this attachment is because of the 1992 incident and all the tangled emotions (foremost of which is guilt) that ensued from it.

The Healer is in urgent need of healing, poor dear.

But it may take a while longer seeing as the preview for ep 14 does not seem promising.

Wait...that confused me a bit. When after being realesed in the hospital and Jung Hoo checked back the star paper on his car, I think he already knows that she knows? I still need eng subs for that though. And that part where Moon Ho teasing Jung Ho when YS and his friend came on their place.

So good to watch them. I really love them on couple white sweater outfit too. I can watch them all 20 eps long just wearing that.

This episode so seemed like only 20 minutes long. God, the way the two are just skirting around each other even though they want to touch each other THE TENSION!!

Why did the teacher have to die. When that happened I was just yelling at my screen saying "You said you would protect them! How can you protect them if you die!!" I can't believe Moon-shik killed another one of his friends again. Like dude almost believed he had a conscience because he hesitated when finding out Young-shin was almost killed. I definitely believe this is another big step into urging Healer and Moon-ho to do business faster.

It's episode 13 already and 14 is tomorrow and omg we still haven't even uncovered half of the things that have happened yet, everything still feels like a mystery to me.

On the last note, can someone explain to me the analogy of the three bears? Like I understand the three bears are the three friends who got in the accident and then Moon-Shik is the only one who survived but what's with the 'because you're a bear' analogy, I don't quite get it...

I feel like since he's already turned into that psychotic realm, he will definitely shed more blood so that she won't escape him and once she finds out what he did with her daughter oh man things will not look pretty. It might even turn into a 'since i can't have you, no one can' situation as we see many characters this psychotic may turn out.

In addition to the Three Bears metaphor representing family relationships which @rainerust (79.2) has explained, I think there's another figurative meaning for "bears" as revealed in the dialogue in the flashback hospital scene:

Young-jae: "How can a bear become a department planning head? Shouldn't the bear live in the forest?"

And likewise in this dialogue at present time frame:
Moon-Shik: "Why are you living your whole life as a rebellious element?"
Young-Jae: "Because we are bears."

Young-jae seems to be using the word "bears" to stand for rebels/working underground/being anti-establishment, which characterised the five college friends.

ahh, that explaination totally cleared it up for me. Now I understand why teacher said 'bears should live in the forest' because they're rebels. Nice thinking writers!

@jaemini The Three Bears is a popular Korean nursery rhyme, a little like Goldilocks and the three little bears. Obviously there's Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear - here he was using the analogy to the five friends. Two Papa Bears (Gil Han and Joon Seok) with two Mama Bears (Myung Hee and JH's Mom) and two Baby Bears (Ji-an aka CYS, and JH aka PBS aka Healer). So basically he was saying of the three friends ('bears') who left, two died, and only one survived, leaving behind two Mama Bears and two Baby Bears...and he wouldn't let anything happen to the Baby Bears, because he was a friend of Papa Bear(s).

...that sounded vaguely confusing, but hoped it cleared it up for you LOL

This episode was such a tear jerker! And the ending? I mean I love this show and where it is going but did he have to die? One more person this "elder" guy has taken from him.

ANd man this show just keeps me so sucked in with every character story line! I think this is what is so special about this show to me. Every character and how their lives criss cross is so well thought out and you want to know more about each one. And when you think you have them figured out... WHAM something else is revealed and you have to start wondering all over again! Not that new reveals happened in this episode (at least no for us) but it is one filled with catalysts.

Sheesh I have a freaking headache now because I had to keep my screams and tears to myself while I watched this episode at school. I don't want Teacher to die. OMG. When he said he's Papa Bear's friend. :(

I love how they handled Yeong Shin knowing about Healer. But what the hell was that with Moon Ho saying that he likes Yeong Shin?! That's not the reality I wanted.

Only 2 of the 5 remains. Tsk. Moon Shik is being eviller by the second. I think it's really interesting too that Elder is not just one actual person but can bee changed as well, like Healer.

Can't wait for tomorrow. Thanks for the recaps, javabeans!~

I love how he can't help but reach for her, no matter what identity he's wearing--Healer, Bong-sookie or Jung-hoo. He's just drawn to her. And the more time he spends around her, the more his identities start to blur together and keeping them separate doesn't matter as much anymore.

Oh, Teacher. It kills me that he had to die, and it kills me that Jung-hoo had to find out like that. I know there was a lot of hate for Teacher and his actions, but as a character, I liked that he wasn't the stereotypical best-friend-of-the-dad-caring-perfect godfather. He was reckless and flighty and irresponsible, but he cared about Jung-hoo in his own way, and it's bittersweet and just plain heartbreaking that Jung-hoo will only realise this after his death.

I'd say more about Young-shin's discovery too...but I'm still just reeling from the ending. Excuse me while I go cry in a corner and have my weekly Healer-induced breakdown LMAO.

I started watching Healer on Friday last week after I was in awe of the 1k~4k comments on Healer recap posts. I'm glad, so glad that I gave this drama a try after reading many praise-filled reactions because I am absolutely hooked!!

Since that day, I've binge watched all 12 episodes, changed my phone wallpaper to Ji CHang Wook in his Healer disguise, and downloaded my new favorite ost. *I only download osts if I'm able to feel an overwhelming range of emotions and imagine the relationship of various characters in any drama, and "Eternal Love" took my heart away.

Anyway, back to episode 13: god this drama is so good! because there is always at least one surprise for me in every approaching hour.

1. I didn't expect Teacher to cover for Jung Hoo/Healer, and totally assumed that the Double S Guards would capture him and send him to Moon Shik and his creepy secretary, or maybe even the Elder. But then again, the Healer shouldn't be easy to catch so whoop! there it was.
2. I DIDN'T THINK TEACHER WOULD DIE IN THE SAME EPISODE HE SAVES JUNG HOO/HEALER. I guess I'm a big fan of this character because I was devastated when he started foaming in his mouth. Ugh. His death made me realize how frighteningly evil Moon Shik becomes whenever someone takes a risky step of exposing his crap load of crimes and secrets. Oh, I am still pissed off at this man. I can't wait to feel the satisfaction of seeing Moon Shik at his ultimate defeat, unless this drama will throw me another surprise to my prediction of a typical happy ending.
3. I thought Young Shin's reaction to discovering Jung Hoo's- or actually Bong Soo's other identity, Healer, would be much more dramatic. Seeing her being composed in front of him and talking about Healer like usual while still expressing her disappointment was so refreshing. That scene is my favorite scene of this episode because she acts the same in front of Bong Soo like nothing's changed. Young Shin is so damn cool! I love her.
4. Referring to the same scene that I'm in love with, Bong Soo's yearning to touch and hold Young Shin was so adorable. That scene was so well played out. I need to watch this part again and again. Woo!
5. Moon Ho is still going along the safe route and from the preview, his ex even mentions that he's not brave. It's true and he needs to hear that. I believe her words will finally affect him to fight hard, although I do wish that Bong Soo/Jung Hoo/Healer's (3 identities, how does he live his life?) searching-for-truth/future intense avenger mindset (which I hope will develop as he finds out more about the mystery behind the deaths and separation of the 5 friends + can't forget Teacher's death) could be the catalyst for Moon Ho's boost of courage and strength. And all in all, I just hope for the best of his battle against his brother.

You can tell that I'm enjoying Healer a lot, probably too much.

(I feel insane for doing all of this in a weekend but I don't regret...

re: #2 - Sucks to see writer-nim do away with Teacher right after he redeems himself. Sigh. It's necessary for the plot to move forward, yes, but he was such a compelling character.

#3 - I was also expecting for a more dramatic revelation (with lots of FEELINGS involved) but actually I find her logical approach to the situation as so very in-character and so Young Shin-like. That's our girl!

Thank you for the speedy recap JB! I really appreciate you guys putting in more effort to get this drama's recapping out there as fast as possible so the squeeing doesn't spill over to other threads due to lack of restraint. lol

Anyway, my theory is that Teacher pulled a Nick Fury on us and faked his death. I doubt Moon Shik had anything to do with it and stay unaffected afterward. He was one of his closest friends.

Does anyone else find it suspicious that Dad and his associate came from shady backgrounds? I think there's more to Dad than meets the eye. I just find it a bit of a weird parallel when I see the Elder being this bar owner/bartender and Dad being a coffee shop owner/barista.

0

Required fields are marked *

You know, this is a very interesting theory. I don't know what a Nick Fury is, but faking his death might be possible. I was still uncertain as to what to conclude MS as- completely evil, or tortured and evil. I didn't think that he would kill his friend. If he killed his friend off like that with no remorse or guilt, then I have overestimated his character. But, then again, it is his friend, so perhaps he didn't actually kill our old Healer?

The parallel between the Elder and Dad could be a theory, but I don't think Dad would have been involved in very shady things. He seems to be character with the big heart from the beginning, since he met YS. Still, that is one theory to think about.

0

Required fields are marked *

i don't know who Nick Fury is/was, but I would welcome it if Teacher does a Lazarus.

About Dad, there hasn't been any hint in the drama about him being involved in shady deals, even in the past. It has been repeatedly mentioned that he's an Attorney who has helped many convicts, not just in their cases, but finding jobs for them once they are out of prison. Ahjussi is one such recipient of Dad's goodwill.

And all those ex-convicts who taught CYS how to pick locks, open safes, pick pockets etc. and who appeared two or so episodes ago, swear by Dad's name. We sense that they have been living within the law and having productive lives after they have done time. All thanks to Dad. They practically look up to him as a kind of saviour/god.

I hated Teacher for leaving JH, too but he was also the person who took care of him when everyone abondoned him. And I doubt that JH would have become the person that he is now if Teacher was not beside him. He had in a way saved JH during those times, and now he saved him again. *sobs* Damn you Kim Moon-shik or whoever had him poisoned!

Sooooooooooooooooo incredible. So alwayyyys incredible. Can't wait for tonight Seriously, at one point, watching Healer is going to kill me : not breathing, heart rate pacing through the roof, squeeling that never end.... My body is going to just shut off XD

So much perfection ! Healer uses so weel the fact we know drama, the fact we are used to see things play out a certain way.... and HEaler just takes all that and says : hey, nope, I have a scenario and things happen to make the story go further instead of revealing secret.
I love Young Shin reaction ! So human, so everyday's life ! Confiding in her father, crying at home, being angry but at the same time, frustrated with herself... that double meaning conversation was gold.

And lets not talk about the arm... I want to kill secretary. Because as of now... I feel like I don't know who asked for him to be poisonned : Moon Shik ? The Elder ? The broken glass makes me think Moon Shik may have just reached his no return point.. but I feel the drama has played with us a lot on this particular point (making us hesitate between the good guy and the wrong where Moon Shik is concerned).

Also, Moon Ho was in the background this time, but his moment was awesome. The silence, his stare, THAT moment when he just said nothing and started on another subject after Healer reminded him that his brother used his mother as bait and tried to kill Yong Shin... That character is incredible, and I sometimes wonder if our Old Boy vilain isn't influencing the writing of his character. I've never seen such a complicated and rich and believable second lead.

Ok i dont know why but am i the only one who feels that teacher is not dead? I mean he CAN'T be dead this soon especially after he challenged moon shik and declared that he would protect the three+jung hoo's mom and myung hee from him. (i hear my brain shouting that im in denial but i'll just ignore it for now :/)
I keep wondering if it will somehow turn into teacher's plan to make everyone believe he's dead so that
1. He can protect all of them from a distance without being suspected
2. Killing the healer so that after all this mess clears up JH can walk away without any charges.

And we never saw him dead with our own eyes (although in the preview moon ho holds someone's (teacher) hand) But i still dont want to believe it. So untl the next episode airs and i see teacher dead with my own eyes i cant believe the teacher's dead. I know its wishful thinking but i dont want JH to lose another important person in his life and i have got this premonition that JH will forever hold himself responsible for whatever that ahppened to teacher. So im hoping and hoping that all of this turns out to be some plan of teacher's and he's faking his death.. (PLEASE BE LIKE THAT!!)

I…didn’t think Teacher was going to die. I thought he’d beat up the bad guys and then be all, “You still have SOOOOOOOO much to learn, Young One” to Jung-hoo, who would then do his whole pouty “I don’t need you or anyone else in my life” spiel—cue tortured pining for Young-shin scene. Ajumma would tell them both to cut that shit out and they’d be good.

But he DIED? What the fuck show. SOMEONE WILL PAY FOR THIS. I’m ready for Jung-hoo to break his “I don’t hurt people” Healer code. I WANT BLOOD.

On a happier note, Jung-hoo and Young-shin have my heart. They are adorable and I love them so.

Although, I have to say that of all the people who could have been hurt in Jung-hoo's life, I'm glad it was Teacher. Teacher brought Jung-hoo into this life. Had it been anyone else, Jung-hoo probably would have blamed himself entirely for that person's harm. He can't do that with Teacher.

Also, the only father figure in Jung-hoo's life has just DIED and it kills me that Young-shin doesn't even know. I hadn't realized how very little she actually knows about either Bong-soo or Healer. If her father died, Jung-hoo would probably know before she ever had the chance to tell him--and I am absolutely sure that she would tell him. Whereas I'm sure Jung-hoo will feel like he can't tell her.

Seriously, Moon Ho. Seriously.
I don't care what story you have no more, but don't mess.
Not once did I have sympathy to your face, voice and fake love and respect to all around you. Your mind is so messed up, just wait for your retribution. Slow, long and painful suffering. Let that happen to you and your minions. Torture til death do you part with a society that clearly can't wait to get rid of you, filth.

This episode really flew by quicker than I expected, which really sucks because I can't get enough of this! We really are getting into something now, but there is so much we have lost and are about to risk, so it worries me a little. (Though I'm pretty sure the end will be fine.. but we're not there yet!)

I was quite confused at the start regarding Yong Shin and Bong Sook, whether Jung Hoo got the hint whether she knew or not. Seeing them like this it hurts my heart a bit considering that we all were waiting for some cute happy scene, but yes... He was not just a hoobae, but her confidant about anything and everything (esp the Healer lol). To find out the truth at the wrong time, I guess it is not easy at all. I can't completely comprehend her feelings since I've never been in her shoes before, but it's like saying my junior in school is actually my crush and I didn't know and.... the only word I would have here is "AWKWARD". (But kdrama does it well to make it more than that lol)
I'm sure however we will get to have a break from this tension between the characters next episode, yeah....? I mean, that's what dramaworld does right?
Not much KMH today, or so I felt, and I still can't figure if he actually likes CYS or not. Clearly he has no chance with Healer Bong-Sookie, but tables turn? Hmm?

It's been quite the episode, with new revelations but also much loss especially for our dearest Jung Hoo. STILL bearing grudges in the terribly incompetent detective yoon (incompetent for now) and waiting for Moon Ho to get what he deserves - what type of heart does he have, going around killing people whenever he wants to?

To have old healer die like this, it hurts my heart. His smiles and jokes, along with very genuine bluntness has managed to capture many of us and it sucks that he has to go so soon. He is awesome though, no denying that.

And mother.... :( Huhuhuhu..

Anyway, can't wait for tomorrow! Hopefully we get to avenge back for all the harm the baddies have caused in these episodes to our baby bears.
