Happy OT!
Hope everyone had a nice Christmas =) I for one had enough food for the next 2 weeks but I still have to sit through two rounds of fondue on Sunday and the 31st xD
Miseng is over and damn what a final week *sob* I will dearly miss Sales Team 3 and the newbies and all the other awesome characters ♥
Still have to watch the second eps of the WED/THU dramas but... dear lord the King in King's Face is annoying me -.-
Looking forward to Family Is Coming (yes I'll watch a weekend drama for once xD) and Kill Me, Heal Me and Heart to Heart though I'm not sure I will watch the latter bc I don't really like Choi Kang Hee but we'll see.
I also hope that viki gets the license for these dramas *starts praying*
I'm also very much liking Dr Frost whose episodes just fly by! I'm amazed every week how fast that hour is over =)
I am nearly caught up with my variety shows as well and I might even catch up on Healer bc my tlist is only writing good things about it :)
I wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR and may 2015 be full of new awesome dramas!

Yeah - Healer! i marathoned the 6 episodes starting on Christmas Eve into Christmas day!
Another 'new' hot face for me to spaz - Ji Change Wook!
I like Park Min Young's character here. Did NOT like her character in New Leaf.
Lots of intrigue - put the technology part is intriguing and Minja Ajummah is DAEBAK!

The first two hours of Angel Eyes had me crying like crazy. Kang Ha-Neul (Baek-Ki in Misaeng) was amazing, as were Nam Ji-Hyun and the rest. Kim Yeo-Jin as Mom and what happens? Dang that bathroom scene in Ep 2 had me weeping uncontrollably.

hi there, I was sort of busy. had forgotten about Friday.
just sneaked into my Moms´place with the excuse of sending bills for workshops, Now I am long done and procrastinating, watching dramas. I want to catch up with Mr Back.
why is life so demanding, there is always some problem that appears just when you find time to rest. I had no time to eat on Christmas, cause this exhibition I applied to likes a different idea that I didnt manage to make in material, and they want it for January 16th.
gaaaaaah help meeeee! It´s a bigass tapestryyyyy...:!
but I did so much work already, I deserve a break.
what are the things that usually come between you and your dramas? Like, when you thought you finished everything and then bang! some kind of trouble is dropped right out of the blue, and you say, no way, I had all things covered!
oh, and Tim and Helena broke up. Who´se job will be taking Johnny depp for a walk?

Hi redfox! Your life sounds a lot like my mother's, one crisis after another. But as she says, crises are only given to those who are strong enough to deal with them. I hope your tapestry gets finished in time!
So many things come between me and dramas - sleep, work, and occasionally even the OT itself! (between composing comments and replying, that can take a precious hour that could have gone to drama watching). And in winter, weddings. Lots of weddings.
Can't believe Tim and Helena broke up. And your comment about Johnny Depp being taken for a walk gives me the image of them putting a dog collar and leash on him. It's a funny image.

I'm in a Caribbean cruise and suffering from serious drama withdrawals. The bandwidth here is not goog enough to watch anything. Does that mean I have to go out in the sun? Seriously, I'm here because my mother wanted to take a Christmas cruise with the family. But in my life she has dragged me to so many cruises I've lost count. This particular cruise I've been in two times before. So before you think I'm crazy for wanting to watch dramas here keep that in mind. Plus I live in Puerto Rico 5 minutes from the beach, so sun and surf don't have the appeal for me they have for others. At least my niece is a fellow kdrama lover, so I'm in good company. I'm also thankful that I'm able to spend quality time with everyone in my family, so rare these days. I hope you all have the opportunity to do the same. Happy Holidays everyone!

LOL! I guess if you already live somewhere sunny, a cruise is just a way to be deprived of dramas for a few days! But yes, I'm glad we're "forced" to do the quality time with family once a year! A cruise sounds like a great way to do it--no dirty dishes! Merry X-mas!

Sue -
My mother insisted that I not bring my computer during a family cruise last year. I interpreted that as "no laptop", so I brought my netbook and a 1T external hardrive full of lovely lovely dramas. Hey, I needed something with USB ports to recharge my camera and stuff, too! [shifty eyes]
That aside, I hope you enjoyed the cruise! While it's true that I live on the Atlantic Ocean, I also loved the chance to interact with my parents (who were celebrating their 57th anniversary on the cruise), and my sibs and their children, who also were on the cruise.
My nephew and I both love anime so we had a spirited discussion of what is the best mecha-show ever created, before most of went to the piano bar for karoke and to see Dad serenade Mom with a Tony Bennett toon. :-)
Then at night it was time to snuggle down with Monstar.

I liked it! The plot is typical high school bad boys versus richy snobs, but Jun-hyung of B2ST did a great job for his debut drama, and the music was enjoyable. And anything with Kang Ha-neul is worth a peek.
But it is not an intellectual stretch, or a thought-provoking treatise on the education system or anything like that. :-)

Happy Holidays Beanies!! I had a wonderful Christmas with my mother coming down to the city....and we went out and indulged with Korean BBQ! Sooooo delicious.
On the other hand I am now behind in all my dramas.
Healer - I got to see episode 5 but have seen 6 yet. This show is unexpectedly adorable. I am really enjoying it and don't realize how much I like it until the episode ends and I can't remember where the last hour went. I hope they're able to keep up the tone of this show.
Let's Eat - watched episode 9 with my mom. She wanted to see some if the food scenes if talked about...and if course it's the episode where she goes put with her mom to a place with hot dogs, nachos, and popcorn lol. So much for showing off the Korean food.
Dr. Frost - I'm through episode 4 now. I'd thought from previews that this might be a turning point episode but nope. The way they shoot things makes it really obvious for viewers what's going on and so the surprise element is usually gone. Frost also doesn't seem that smart when the audience is clued in before he is. I may have to put this in hold. I really want to like it but it's not happening.
Behind now in Pinocchio, P&P, and Modern Farmer as well. Sigh. I'll probably watch MF at work today.

Hello all:
Hoping everyone had a wonderful Christmas, Winter Solstice, Kwanza, Chanukah! And hoping everyone has a great 2015.
Dramas:
Missing Misaeng. <-- yeah, some wordplay cannot be resisted.
King's Face: I do not know why this drama is not working for me. Seo In Guk is really good but the meh factor is pretty powerful.
Valid Love: Am liking the story but not buying the main female character. Am I so makjangized that I just have a really high standard for suffering? Waiting to see if hubby and lover are related. (Yeah, too much makjang, i guess.) Really interested in how Paralyzed Sis sub-plot fits into the overall theme of stasis and maturity.
That little whiff of Right-to-die debate in that little conversation between stunted younger sun and stunted dead was a little scary. Would "valid love" mean pulling the plug on Paralyzed Unnie? Or straight-up murdering her so she could be free? Would young lover-boy do that kind of thing? Gonna keep watching it cause Uhm Force's pain is enthralling to watch and Lee Soo Hyuk is majorly hot. Anyone else think the female researcher might be the one sending the jealousy-inducing messages to hubby?
Seonam Girl's High School Detective: Now this is aegyo done right!
Between Punch and What's With this Family? (Valid Love, Secret Door, and Modern Farmer as well) I feel as if I've been spending a lotta dramatime waiting for someone to die. Hope I can handle it. I might watch Mr. Back but..will that be another case of waiting around for another character's death? Dramaland, don't get me morbid thinking of mortality...give me a Miracle Ex Machina.
Everyone's been praising Healer so now I'm trying to just jump in. Apparently my kneejerk reaction bugaboo about birth secrets should be challenged. And I should just push myself and grow out of it. Or else, I'll be avoiding a lotta good dramas all the time. Might do some marathoning since it's only up at 6 episodes.
Waiting, waiting, waiting for Unkind Women, and wishing I could find a good anime. Might treat myself to Attack on Titan this weekend.
That's about it. Have a great weekend, all! Thanks to all the great recappers on Dramabeans for all the great work they've done this year.

The first part of Seonam Girl is flighty and fluffy with this cruel crime going on. So we get to know everyone at first. The girls are all pretty cute and typical of Shoujo. I love K-drama new year's resolutions like this one:
"grow out of kneejerk reaction bugaboo about birth secrets"! That covers a LOT of shows.
Birth secrets are another cliche I have a weakness for. (Is there any cliche I don't love?) I've come across real-life examples that are as weird as anything on TV, and literature has a few good ones, too. One of my favorite novels is Graham Green's "Travels with my Aunt," which has a good understated British birth secret, no makjang involved. And I love that one of our most ancient, most human and interesting stories has at its heart a totally makjang birth secret (Moses). I imagine people sitting around a fire five thousand years ago getting totally absorbed in his story.
It's really emotionally profound to think about what would be different in our lives if we had different parents, and what would be the same. What's the center of our identity, and what's the stuff we picked up along the way? Would we feel differently about the world with different parents? The philosophical questions are cool, if the writer can bring them up without too much makjang.
I hope you'll let us know how your "birth secret bugaboo" project goes. I'm interested to hear your thoughts about which birth secrets work for you and which ones don't. Are there shows you rejected when a birth secret showed up? Good luck, and a very happy new year!

I hope to succeed in my resolution.
With me the birth secret thing is kinda personal. And it's not so much about hypothetically being born in a different family, it's more about the emotional pain of separation.
There was a major custody battle between my mother and my paternal grandmother when I was a kid and my paternal grandmother stole me from my mother at one point. It was very traumatizing looking around for my mother and not seeing her..and my grandmother saying I wasn't going to go back home.
This really affected me and kinda marked my psyche I think. In fact, I was so afraid of my child being stolen at the hospital that I went through my pregnancy in a state of hypertension. And when my younger son was diagnosed as autistic, the issue became even worse. Now it was no longer the lost child, but the sick/disabled child stories that I couldn't watch. Everytime I hear of some lost autistic kid or some murdered child or some child who went into a coma or some stolen child, my fibromyalgia flares. Did I forget to mention that sanity is not my strongpoint. I do address some of these issues in my novels as storytelling is my most elegant use of my neuroses. But I still have problems watching stories with these themes, even if they are comedies.
The good dramas I dropped were the sajeuk Su-Baek, King's Daughter. I held out (against the kneejerk rejection) when heroine didn't tell her lover she was pregnant. I was pretty proud of my bravery there. Then there was the baby switching and that was too much for me. Am not sure I can deal with that.
Recently dropped a daily You are the Only One, because the Mom gave up her child and now grown child is searching for Mom.
I gave up Secret but returned because everyone loved it so much. But I had a negative reaction to heroine having to pretend she was her child's "aunt" at the end. Even thinking about that now is getting me weepy. I dropped Rainbow Family, although I love Jung Il Woo.
I kinda sorta made it through Birth of a Beauty and I made it through Incarnation of Money.
I avoided Mother (J-drama) and Mama though. And simply could watch Nobody Knows, a Japanese film. (I kept running out the room and asking my husband how everything was going.) I also did that with "Time of Drunken Horses" an Iranian film.

Thanks for sharing your personal story. I wanted to respond earlier but had to go out. I too am sorry that you had to go through that experience and that it has actually affected what shows you can bring yourself to watch. It is a reminder that we cannot dismiss lightly in others, what may appear as idiosyncrasies to us, but which might be the result of a traumatic experience for them.

You're so amazing, CM. Thanks for sharing your story, which is genuinely like something in a K-drama. When traumatic stuff happens, we might need to avoid stories about it. It's a luxury to be able to think of birth secrets as a distant, theoretical thing. I'm sending a ton of good wishes for your "birth secret project" this year!

Carole - my life is Misaeng without that drama, I tell you!
I was rather long-faced for a while today when I realised that Friday would no longer bring me my favourite Sales Team - no more puppy and friends! /sad face
Ah, well, I hope the cast is taking a well-deserved rest. They certainly seem to have had a good time on their group holiday in the Philippines, Byun Yo-han posted the most adorable instagram photos of them (Lee Sung-min looking like a classic dorky tourist with a hat.....I am dead).

@ Carole McDonnell
Great, you started on Valid Love. I was hoping that there'd be a thread here to discuss it. Anyone else watching this show?
1) I too have difficulty with Il Ri. In fact, I find I cannot like any of the main characters. I find them so hard to identify with (unlike the characters of Misaeng, how I miss it too....)
2) I read in the previous OT, (I think it was), comments that could explain her character, and I thought maybe one might be able to understand her or feel a bit sorry for her..., however the way she is portrayed, as someone rather out of control, just rushing in headlong, being impetuous or thoughtless, immature... somehow does not work for me. Maybe she is written to be an anti-hero? Not the kind of main character one would root for?
3) The question your raised about who is sending those photos is something that occurred to me. I wondered if Carpenter Kim himself had got someone to take photos to send to Jang Hee Tae to mess up their marriage.
4) I was shocked actually that when he first received the message, he allowed his colleagues to know what was upsetting him. It would have been something best kept hidden (dirty laundry and all that) and now he is faced with their curiosity and questions (his own fault). If anything happens to Kim or Il Ri, he'd come under suspicion now that other people know the situation he's in.
5)As for Il Ri's friend taking issue with her over her love affair, what gives her the right? Too intrusive but dramas seem to depict it as the norm and the characters do not seem to get all that upset with this kind of intrusion. I find it upsetting but maybe that's just me.
6) I'm waiting to know how sister, Hee Soo, got paralyzed. The parts of the show I actually like are when Hee Soo is 'talking' and we see what's in her mind. She has some pretty good insights, if only she could speak to Il Ri.
7) Uhm force was like a dull force until he got jealous. It's only now that I'm beginning to find him interesting. He seems to be doing what I'd expect, and maybe what many others might do in the same situation. Leave it alone and hope for the best or confront and really blow everything up. It may seem like the cowardly way, but this I find understandable.
8) That is a valid point about Valid Love. What is valid in the name of love? To kill someone (put him/her out of misery), to force that person to stay alive and to accept care against his/her will? To insist on loving or marrying someone when one may not be mature enough to have decided? To go with one's feelings and hang the rest of society?

I'm watching VL and I love it. :) The holidays were busy so I haven't checked this week's eps yet. There were really a lot of comments on the last OT about her personality and I think you have a good grasp on her, she really is super impulsive and even her husband tells us that. She is also sometimes careless and selfish, though she has a caring and responsible side too.
I don't think we need to like her or accept what she does or excuse her actions in order to enjoy the show. I like all characters, even though I consider ALL of them to be rather selfish people, they are so human. :)

The husband's behaviour is what I'd expect of any husband who feels betrayed by an unfaithful wife, and before the affair is aired between them, ie before she knows he knows. He was re-staking his claim or rights out of anger/spite.

Plus there's the older man needing to show his woman that older men can be passionate in bed. Let's not forget the age disparity and the "youth" of the intruder in hubby's marital bed. A man's sense of his virility is at stake here.

I'm actually not turned off at all by the birth secrets in Healer, despite usually having an aversion for them, because I'm enjoying the execution and the tone of the show so far. I think it's something about the mystery surrounding the five friends and their pirate radio broadcast...the birth secret feels like it could be a result of something much bigger. The drama has been deliberate about not unveiling everything at once which is making me interested in the backstory in a way I'm usually not. So for me, I guess Healer is taking a cliche I usually hate and making it fresh and engrossing. And I really like that. (Of course, this all depends on me still being as satisfied when the mystery does unravel)

Happy holidays, everyone! I feel so thankful I found the community here! American TV lately makes me want to emigrate. (Repeat to self: highly rated shows about zombie apocalypse are not indicators of end of civilization.)
A great X-mas present: my high-powered baby sister the doctor is taking her longest vacation possibly EVER in a couple days. TWO weeks in a row to stay at home and chill out. After listening to me burble about K-dramas for ages, she asked for my staycation recommendations. A big responsibility! I have great hopes of not only reeling her in, but also her good-natured boyfriend who likes corny stuff more than she does. Apparently he wanted to watch "Annie" the other day. Where did she find this guy? I just wish she didn't live 2000 miles away. It would be fun to watch with a live person!
I hope everyone here is having joyful holidays and I wish you all a prosperous, healthy and happy new year!

@Odessa Jones - oh dear, the new Annie? I've heard that's terrible (which is sad, because I love the little girl they cast as Annie).
It depends on your sister's taste, but if committing to entire kdramas at a go is too much, how about drama specials? KBS has some good ones available to view on their youtube channel - I am especially fond of Anticipate Love (aka Expect To Date and other names) and Sirius. Twenty Years Old is also adorable and fluffy. And all of these are 4 episodes or less!
If your sister is bent on full-length dramas, try Shut Up Flower Boy Band (I think the start-a-band-with-friends theme is pretty universal) or Answer Me 1997, Queen In-hyun's Man, or You From Another Star. (I recommend QIHM and Arang and the Magistrate if your sister is open to sageuks)

* Kang Koo's Story (2014) - TV Movie - 2 episodes.

* Our Slightly Risque Relationship -- KBS2 Drama Special (2010)

Lastly, and I know I'm going to get pummeled for this...
* Haneuljae's Murder (2013) MBC Drama Festival
Cute, lightweight fun mini-series:

I'm from the Dallas area and I have pretty much STOPPED watching American TV for the last 24 months and have been watching mainly Kdramas.
There was nothing to watch - only reality shows. I get bored with cast and show premise after 2 seasons - so alot of the series just don't grab me (the exception is the Law and Order series). I like the 16, 20+ or the 50+ episodes of kdrama. After the show - i move on to the next cast and plot/show!
Saved $800 annually since 2012 when i cut off my cable - have not missed it since!!
So many kdramas and so little time!!
I am very thankful for streaming sites and this forum here at Dramabeans that adds to the fun and educattional aspects of watching kdrama with a virtual community.

Hong-ki's a powerhouse, and the number of songs in their discography is just insane (plus they do Korean, Japanese and Chinese versions of songs)!

Happy Holidays everyone!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! ^^
Time to catch up with lots of dramas, Misaeng, Pride and Prejudice, King's Face, etc.
I love what I'm seeing so far in two dramas about reporters, Healer and Pinocchio. Although reporters/journalism, maybe only have 1/3 portion in Healer. Both deal with injustice, wealthy people who can buy and change the news, social problems and accidents in the past. It's scary to see that reporters don't have the real power to report the news, because it's all set from the higher-ups. News can be spinned in a way so what we get in media maybe not exactly the truth. I learned about this in uni for a while, but to see it unravel in front of my eyes in form of dramas are completely different experience.
We have a set of idealistic and righteous reporters, Kim Moon Ho and Chae Young Shin in Healer and 4 rookie reporters in Pinocchio. But their ambition to unravel the truth in both dramas have found a number of difficulties from people who doesn't want the real truth exposed.
I have read before that SK reporters esp entertainment ones love to write trashy news. But that can't be compared to political/current affairs reporters who always fear constant threat.
Like what I read here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/in-south-korea-journalists-fear-a-government-clampdown-on-the-press/2014/12/09/ff13603e-7a2f-11e4-8241-8cc0a3670239_story.html
I also read in some other article, but forget about it.
Anyway, this kind of dramas hopefully will offer some critical perspective and social commentary on journalism and society in Korea in general. So far I enjoy Healer and Pinocchio even though they have quite different story and vibe. :D

Thanks for posting that WP link. With big newspapers and networks cutting way back on foreign correspondents, it's harder to find articles like that. And that's just everyday economic pressures hurting good journalism--it's so much worse for journalists to work under the threat of libel suits. I hope papers in SK push back.
If you're watching P&P, it's convoluted as heck, but something it does well is show injustice as a systemic thing that doesn't get solved by making one or two people scapegoats. Now that the holidays are finishing up, I really have to catch up in Healer. Curious to see their idealism about the news.

Fun... and touching. Possibly others here will say FTLY too serious, so if you are just seeking fun, you might want to try King first.
Trying to winnow it down to the fun ones, other years:
* My Girlfriend is a Gumiho
* Reply 1997
It's always so hard to find the "fun" ones. One of the things I love about Kdramas is how they miraculous balance light comedy with serious drama. I've got others I really like, but less sure... even with comic elements, might be too much drama for what you're wanting.

Thinking about shows that are cheerful... it's hard. All the melo elements are mixed into practically every show I've seen. Cannot avoid some angst and tears but if you don't mind going through some of that stuff...
There's the re-united ex-spouses: Sly and Single, Emergency Couple which had to me more fun than tears.
Middling Oldies : My Princess, Lie To Me - kind of nice romance
With music : You're Beautiful and Heartstrings - just mindless entertainment but less romantic
Then Cyrano Dating Agency, A Gentleman's Dignity, Marriage Not Dating are more on the lighthearted vein.

Since you've mentioned Cyrano Dating Agency, I think rewatching the film could also be a good idea. I remember liking it a lot and even laughing at the jokes, and I've forgotten enough of the plot to warrant a rewatch.
You're right about the tears being a mandatory element - Christmas makes me think of My Girl, and that one sure had a lot of melo in the second half!
Another idea: re-read JB's recaps of Witch Amusement. Seriously, if you've never read those, you should, even if you've never seen the drama (and I can tell you, the only reason to watch it is the odd bromance).

Thanks for the tips about JB's recaps.
A few fun movies in case you haven't seen them:
* All About My Wife
* Castaway on the Moon (not a comedy per se, but has comic elements, and I just plain love it)
* Fasten Your Seatbelt
* Going by the Book
* Hello Ghost
* Penny Pinchers (also not strictly a comedy.)
* The Plan Man
* The Weird Missing Case Of Mr. J
* Whatcha Wearin'? (aka My P.S. Partner.) It's a racy movie. Would be rated R in the USA.
There are others in my comedy list, but I think these are more the laugh-out-loud variety.

Castaway on the Moon!!! I saw it here (NYC) at the Asian Film Festival and my friend and I enjoyed it so much. I felt so bad for the director because he was so surprised that the audience was giving him such good feedback because he says it was a huge failure in Korea and got bad reviews....um, but I thought it was quirky and good.

Ooooh, thanks! I've seen My P.S. Partner and Penny Pinchers, but will check out the rest! Despite the title, I highly recommend How To Use Guys With Secret Tips. It had quite a few funny jokes and a quirky feel with some Wes Anderson/Pushing Daisies style and magical realism mixed in.

Hi everyone! Merry Christmas to those who celebrate - it's been a while since I've been in OT, I missed it!
As for kdramas:
Misaeng:
Best. kdrama. OF ALL TIME.
I have no other words, other than if someone wants to leave a message for Lee Sung-min, you can leave it as a reply to comment #20 in the Misaeng episode 20 recap - there are plans to have them translated and posted to his fan cafe. And if you want to send Lee Sung-min a fan letter, you can send it here:
Actor Lee Sung-min
Hodoo and You Entertainment
Marriott’s Park Centre, Building A #801
28-3 Yeouido-dong , Yeongdeungpo-gu
150-881, Seoul, Korea
(many thanks to @tt for posting that info in the final Misaeng recap - I am now about to send a fan letter for the first time in my adult life! Such is the power of a really excellent drama!)
Other than Misaeng, here's the drama rundown for the last few weeks
Pinocchio - remains awesome, though this week was not as heavy on my tear ducts as last week. Adorable Christmas episodes, even if I missed hyung a bit the four reporter buddies and Dal-po collapsing drunk into Grandpa's arms was beyond adorable. And finally, we get closer to what the real evil behind the scenes is - first time in this drama I'm not fast-forwarding through Kim Hae-sook's scenes! (and where is our Cha-byun cameo?! Isn't he hyung's lawyer?!)
What's With This Family - I really, REALLY love Dad, and it breaks my heart that he's trying to be a noble idiot and keep his terminal illness from his family. There's a lot to be said for a drama led by a skilled senior actor, and I love that weekend dramas give them this chance that prime time weekday ones usually don't).
I also love Kim Hyun-joo to pieces, and the love line between eldest noona and her Director is the funniest and cutest thing ever. They're so much fun together!
Other than that, there were movies - I watched Miss Granny, Mourning Grave, Friend and Friend 2 - all four were excellent (Kim Woo-bin's saturi may sit a bit funny, but he does menacing and sexy -but-boyish like no one else) I guess the one DB is most likely to be interested in is Mourning Grave. Thoughts on that to follow (it was really scary!)

What's With My Family? Sooooooo good! I don't want Dad to die but I feel he will. It's funny but I think his niece is going to be really broken up about the news when she finds out. He's almost like the only Dad she's ever had...and I think the screenwriter might show that there is so much more to her than selfish gossip. Anyway, I'd like screenwriter to do that.

December 26, 2014 at 8:52 AM
yeah, cousin Young-seol has already shown that she has a heart of gold underneath all the gossip, and is especially fond of eldest noona,
I mean, remember her basically going full Sister Bear on Kang-shim's ex for daring to come back into her life? And then conspiring with our Director to help him out with Kang-shim? She really just wants her to be happy, even if they fight. (and likewise with Kang-shim being ready to tear off Son-in-law Seo's head for daring to suggest that Young-seol's baby might not be his)
It's such a perfect family drama - no makjang, sure there's plenty of drama but it has a nice warm feel.

In regards to What's With This Family: I really wish the father will undergo treatment for his cancer. In the drama, the father is scared that the treatment will not help. I know it's just a drama. But, speaking in real life, my mother was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer in stage 3B. After she finished her radiation and chemotherapy, her OBGYN told her that these treatments have tremendously help her. So, with the last episode and when the father refused to take the treatment, I really wanted to let him know that although those treatments hurt alot, they do help the cancer. I hope he goes through the treatments and survive in the end to see the impact and positive changes he have done to his children and see both his daughter and youngest son get marry to their respective love ones.

Looking forward to 'The family is coming' - weekend drama.

Anyone watching N no Tameni(J drama)? According to what I read, many Japanese viewers find the story excellent, and some believe that the drama surpassed the original novel.
I watched the first eps and it is heart breaking,,,
Nobunaga concerto and Gomen ne Seishun finished in Japan. Nobunaga 's ending received some negative opinion( original Manga is still going so the script writer created his own ending in this drama).
Gomen ne got the worst viewership but many viewers find the drama fun and interesting. Viewerships sometimes do not reflect content of dramas.
Talking about not so good viewership but great production, I heard that the Three Musketeers really got sucked,,, no 2 and 3. Why, why why????
Have a wonderful New Year.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy OT everyone. Man, with everyone from out of state popping in and out, plus everyone in my house, including me, being knocked upside the head with varying degrees of a severe cold, haven't had much time for dramas.
Didn't have internet for a couple days while visiting, so I watched Bamboo Blade which was loaned to me on dvd. Animes are difficult for me to get into. I've only seen C: Control, this one, and Nodame Cantabile. Had I had other options, I wouldn't have finished it; it felt kind of pervy at moments. I enjoyed learning about the fighting form though. If I had time I'd be tempted to take up kendo. Overall, not as sticky as NC. Less manic hilarity I guess?
Waahhh I'm behind Valid Love *hyperventilates*
Managed to start Punch. Saw the first two episodes. I think I'm gonna like it here. First, I was almost in tears at the children on the bus FROM THE STILLS. It was hard to watch but I'm really glad they didn't go the easy, expected route and kill her as his impetus for change. And apparently cancer is not one either. I love me a good antihero. Mom's knocking it out of the park too. And so is his boss. The bromance is nice, in a twisted way; too bad this dynamic duo will split ways. Sad that it seems like Ohn Joo Wan won't be smiling much in this show, his smile is adorable in a way you feel to your toes. Not sure how I feel about the mustache yet.
Er that's it. Might be back if I catch up on VL but for now hope everyone's enjoying their break.

Hi museofmanymasks!
I forgot about Punch, after seeing the first ep...thank you for reminding me...another show I got to catch up on :) But I definitely agree with you that it was good that they didn't go the typical route and kill the child to provoke change in the parent...that really would have been too easy. Jung-hwan really is an anti-hero to the max...and even having a terminal disease seems like a bit easy way out for him to change into a decent human being.

we saw it on Christmas night on google play. I'm a real cynic, though. I don't think North Korea had anything to do with the hacking. For all we know the US government is trying to make sure we keep our military in Japan and in South Korea. I'm just really suspicious of anything said or reported or believed in the US media. Plus we already know that Son of Fearless Leader is as bad as his father...so why is an entire movie dedicated to furthering our mockery, fear, and hatred of the guy?
Interview was fun..and anyone who likes fart-poo-raunchy jokes etc will like it. I saw it because older son was visiting us for Christmas and wanted to see it. Plus James Franco is one of the few American actors I have major crush on.
That said, I still think it's not funny to do a film about murdering a foreign leader, especially when we Americans do have a history of killing foreign leaders. Would Americans like it if some other country made a film about murdering our leader?

Hey Carole!
I definitely agree with you on the hacking, because it now just seems like one big ol' marketing gimmick. I suppose that makes a cynic but I'm not one of those conspiracy theorists in the least...it doesn't seem like they are even feasibly capable of pulling off something of this magnitude -- even if this movie was something that would horrify their govt. I agree with you about there even being a film about murdering a foreign leader...freedom of speech be damned, I don't think it's particularly good hindsight to poke a sleeping beast and unleash havoc.
I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard from friends who did...and they all thought it was nothing to write home about. Some have even said it was not worth the hype. I'll probably still catch it though.

It definitely looks as if the sony folks will benefit from the hacking, even if some of their relationships are messed up because of the leaked emails.
It really was silly fun but only if you're in the mood for it. Yeah, i doubt the North Koreans could pull off all this stuff. China maybe? Anonymous, maybe? but who knows?
I just hate the following scenario:
North Korea: We didn't do it.
USA: North Korea did it.
US population and everyone in the whole world: North Korea did it because the US CIA said they did it.
Stuff like that just sticks in my craw for some reason.

December 27, 2014 at 12:17 PM
Carole...yeah, I definitely agree with you about your scenario because it seems that the US is blaming NK just out of convenience and not digging further to find the real culprit -- if there really was one, that is.
You would think that if NK really did it, they'd be blasting the news worldwide, boasting that they were able to hack one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world. And I also don't like how people here in the US are easily believing that it's true, just simply because the govt says it is.
I'll believe it when NK actually takes credit for it. For them to deny it all and having subsequent internet outages on top of that -- it smells fishy. The only people benefiting from all this really is the company, with all this free publicity and buzz for this movie.
My sense of humor is broad, so I think I'll find this funny...I suppose I'll know it once I see it.
ajewell
December 30, 2014 at 12:23 PM
I find it really hard to believe that this was all some sort of lame publicity stunt. For one, Sony lost big when the theaters pulled out, so hype or no, the loss in revenue doesn't make the "leak" worthwhile at all. Especially since it's so easy to watch online for free, and considering it's a dumb comedy, many people won't bother to buy it when it officially comes out anyway.
And two, why in the world would the goverment lie just to cover for Sony? They're not going to condone some lame-ass marketing ploy just to stick the middle finger at North Korea. And even if the government hadn't said it was them, people still would've assumed so, considering the hacking took place shortly after North Korea threatened to take action. Their internet outage is more likely due to some rogue hackers who are paying them back for what they did - not because the government wants to shut them up, or stop them from denying any involvement. Their internet isn't going to be down forever.

South Korean prosecutors are seeking an arrest warrant for the former Korean Air executive Heather Cho who sparked outrage by kicking a flight attendant off a plane for serving macadamia nuts the wrong way.
The warrant would cover charges of violating aviation safety rules, including a change in a flight plan, assault on a plane, coercion and interference in the execution of duty, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' office said Wednesday.
A decision will be taken on issuing of the warrant early next week after a review procedure, the prosecutors' office said.

Just finished watching Trick Season 1-3. Haven't watch the movies and specials yet. Love, love, majorly love Trick. (Background drop: Trick is a scooby doo-style crime solving drama that involves a smart magician and a physicist professor. Both are super hilariously with each other and solve crimes that involve with supernatural power. They find the tricks behind those supernatural power. Very funny and entertaining. Awesome story-line and acting too. Please do check it out. It is old but it is well worth it.) Ueda and Yamada has awesome chemistry and the ending of Season 3 was majorly cute. I wish lots of Kdrama will have that explosive chemistry that works well with the character development as well as the story line.

Trick....I watched their latest movie recently and it brought back fond memories of when it used to show on my local screen, so it's added to my evergrowing list of shows to catch.
What I like about it is that while the physicist is held in higher esteem because of his qualifications, it's the female magician who solves the puzzle using her brains and street smarts.
Seriously, this and Boss (both seasons) are convincing me to look at jdoramas only for when I want to see female characters that are smart, strong and not just appendages to the male leads in the shows.

Hey everyone...happy OT!
Season's Greetings and Merry Christmas! :) Been baking up a storm, just in the mood to make pies, cookies and cakes -- this coming from someone who doesn't have a sweet tooth! This is the only time of year I eat them. My faves have been scratch-made Oreos and scratch-made dark chocolate brownies with minty frosting, so mm mm good :)
Pinocchio: I love all the scenes with Dal-po & family, and thank goodness this week was not a repeat of last week's heartbreaking angst. Grandpa and Dal-peng are my two fave characters here, and it was great to see that drunk Dal-po's ramblings made it back to the people that needed to hear it the most! I have the scene where Dal-po hands over the family's fave snacks and the aegyo finger guns on repeat...hoping I'll be able to make that into a gif! ;) I always had the inkling that there was far more to it than just Cha-ok and her reporting, and to see glimpses of Beom-jo's mom emerging as Big Bad was a bit predictable to me. As far as kdrama tropes go, every little thing is connected in some way...so yeah, that's where it's going til the finale.
Healer: Haven't seen this week's eps yet but read the recaps already. I love wimpy awkward Jung-hoo and I like how spunky Young-shin is, even if, secretly, Jung-hoo is the one kicking ass and saving the day. Jung-hoo slowly falling for Young-shin without knowing it is one dynamic I love seeing here, especially when Young-shin confessed to having an one-sided crush on the Healer...haha, his mind is blown ;) I wholeheartedly second JB in feeling giddy watching this!! :)
When I think of weekend dramas, crazyass mother-in-laws come to mind. I've fallen off the wagon in watching at least one, after being worn out from Jang Bori is Coming. Just thought I'd tune in to Rosy Lovers and The Legendary Witch and dayummm. Crazyass father-in-laws are more like it now! WTF. Typical makjang, typical dysfunctionality. Not my cup of tea. I will, however, get my act together and re-watch What's With My Family from the beginning...it's been so long that I forgot a lot of it, and to read the snippets about Dad has got me itching to catch it again.
I've been catching Pride & Prejudice on and off, but at one point I actually thought Kang-soo could be Byul? (Yeah, most likely off point for sure). I think I need to catch this from the beginning as well, because the mish-mash in my head ain't making no sense!
Hope yall have a great weekend, and Happy New Year! Hurrah to the '15! :)

@ Tara
I haven't had breakfast yet and I also do not have a sweet tooth but reading what you baked is making my mouth water and making me more hungry!!
Pinocchio: I'm sad that we could not just have a good Chaebol mum, but now it's understandable why the 1st 2 episodes dragged on the horror done to the Ki father and family. Why it was so unrelenting and why the right kind of investigation was not carried out. It does not excuse the people in charge of investigating and reporting, but only makes it a bit more comprehensible.
Pride and Prejudice is convoluted too and I have to go back to watch some episodes because I skipped, but I got the gist of it. In the end Kang Soo and Byul are not the same person but victims tied to the same crime. If any show is more full of connections than Pinocchio it's P & P :)
Happy New Year to you too!

Hey growingbeautifully!
I didn't realize you left me a comment on the Pinocchio thread, my bad :/ I kinda forgot about my post until now so I apologize for not replying!
Hehe, sorry for making you hungry by talking about the baked goods :) I'm not a professional baker by no means and cook a lot more than bake, but this time of year gets me in the baking mood. A lot of times, I'm browsing through recipes and I bake whatever sounds good.
I agree wholeheartedly with you about Pinocchio. The Beom-jo mom angle does make sense, because I was scratching my head for a bit and thought that it didn't feel like that Cha-ok's relenting reporting was the only bit that led to the tragedy for the Ki family. I, too, am sad that his mom is added to the ever growing list of Rich People Behaving Badly list, because she just seemed to be an overly loving mom to her momma's boy and seemed harmless. And you're absolutely right...now that her involvement 13 years ago is known, it make sense why things turned out the way it did and how skewed the investigation turned.
As for Pride & Prejudice, I saw the first ep and then skipped around, catching when I can. Definitely did not see them in succession, hence my confusion about Kang-soo...and I will start marathoning from ep1 this weekend.
And I know there have been people on the Pinocchio thread that complained about the excessive coincidences in the plot...but I don't mind that as much, as long as the story doesn't lose focus and gets it down pat. (I suppose my comments here made me sound a bit bummed.) I didn't really think of Pride & Prejudice for having lots of connections until I saw an ep from last week...so you're absolutely right, they are both similar in that respect :)

Oh you definitey should watch What's With This Family! It is soo chill and cool compared with the other weekend dramas (which I admittedly have not been watching.) Although..there are two crazy mother-in-laws in this one as well. Nothing's perfect, i guess...except Misaeng. But WWTF is pretty near perfect, i think.

Open thread:
Well, I wrote something on soompi to reply one comment there.
Please, read if you like MISAENG.
In other articles I think I explained my reason to you. Have you read it? or you skipped. Actually, I am waiting for your reply :-)
By the way, who is Siwon who starred in Misaeng? If you mean it is Choi Siwon, well, he did star in Poseidon, My Girl, then a drama from Taiwan along with Lee Donghae and he is from Super Junior not ZE:A. lol
No Siwon as the star of Misaeng. lol.You wrote his name wrongly here. May I correct it? IM SIWAN or his stage name is SIWAN not siwOn. or his birth name is Im Wongjae. Junyoungie slightly called him Wongjae in behind the scene of breath last stage in Inkigayo. Have you watched it? I dont think so.
I am stick on my opinion and always will be. It means that I have always stuck on my opinion that the right title is ZE:A's Siwan. He is nobody without ZE:A. and before you complain again, please watch Beatles Code when ZE:A and Siwan were there. He appeared but not too long because he had to shoot STAND BY for MBC in 2012. But, what he said will answer your complain.
After you watch beatles code, and you still complain, I give up. I will stop here. No need to continue.
Do you think that Siwan will reach what he reach today without Kwang Hee? Come on girl, he was noticed after Kwang Hee brought him in Strong Heart. Have you watched that show? I dont think so. If you watch the show, you will also understand what I mean?
Are you a ZE:A's? I dont think so. If yes, you will understand why the title has to put ZE:A. One of the reasons why they work hard is to spread ZE:A's name so that ZE:A will be a group which represent the country.
In addition, I give up on Soompi. Last night I read the title Park Hyung Shik bla bla bla without ZE:A. I think you have to watch Think 4 show from TvN. There Hyungshikkie said that ZE:A is his name.
Later if there is an article about ZE:A's members, and Soompi writer dont put ZE:A as the title, I will only read it and dont put any comments because I have given up on soompi.
Nice to meet you...let you know if you are SIwan's fan, you are also called ZE:A's. lol.
So, I made many mistakes when I wrote that you are not ZE:A's.
Read this one:
At a fanmeeting, a fan asks Junyoung:
“oppa, what are the names for members’ individual fandom??”
Then this is what Junyoung writes:
Kevin: ZE:A’s
Kwanghee: ZE:A’s
Siwan: ZE:A’s
Junyoung: ZE:A’s
Taeheon: ZE:A’s
Heecheol: ZE:A’s
Minwoo: ZE:A’s
Hyungsik: ZE:A’s
Dongjun: ZE:A’s
http://9zeamuses.tumblr.com/tagged/moonleader/page/2
Uri Leader will always be polite. You know why? He wrote according to the age. Kevin is the oldest, of course he is on the top. Followed by Kwang Hee, Siwan, uri LEADER (he is not the oldest but he has been the LEADER of ZE:A), Taeheon, Heecheol, MinWoo, Hyungshik, Dongjun. Should I write their...

Ummmm I wish you and your fandom well, but on dramabeans NO idol is ever identified the way you want us to call Siwan. Maybe in the beginning of a recap or in casting news db will mention that they are idols but it is ridiculous to expect this site's writers and commenters to do that. If an idol is doing a drama, they are identified by their own name and that is it. Because they are playing a different character and not "themselves" as they would do on variety or music performances.
And please don't think this is bias. Members of all idol groups are identified this way, not just yours - SNSD, B2ST, MBLAQ, JYJ, A Pink etc all have members who have acted in dramas reviewed here. They were all identified by their own name, just as Siwan is. If you cannot accept that, then dramabeans is not the place for you - commenters here simply do not care what idol group an actor belongs to as long as he is good. Sorry!

It is ok for me. What I mean is we have different opinion and it is good. I can see your point. Thank you.
It is open thread. I just want to write what I want to write because it is a free space to voice out what in our mind. In other pages of dramabeans, I try not to voice out what in our mind if they are not related to drama/actors. But, only here I am brave enough to write what I write above.
HAve you listened to Siwan's song? His voice is good. You can try to listen to his songs. Many of them are underrated. I will not suggest you any kinds of songs. If you ask, let me suggest. If not, I just suggest to listen to his songs without mentioning the titles.

Merry, Merry and Happy, Happy to all!
My week in review (first time I've done this):
Christmas was nothing special. Just me in the mountains, which is nothing new. Family in different states. Frankly, it's been so many years I no longer think about it, just like any other day.
Last week was a bit rough, though. In addition to the same ol' same old stresses (no job, no money), my birthday was on Sat. Dec 20th. I have never had a problem with birthdays, and in fact sort of embraced the milestones. This was different. The first time I been pretty blue about it. Let's just say if I keep saying I'm "middle-aged" that means I'm living to 120.
On top of that...
* It was the last Misaeng that day!!! Need I say more?
* And before that, there were the series finales of The Colbert Report and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
* Plus the last Christmas show on David Letterman. The 28th and final appearance of Darlene Love singing "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". That ALWAYS gets to me. (For anyone interested, Youtube has them going back to her first appearance in 1986.)
Tomorrow we say goodbye to the Modern Farmers. :-( Thank god I have you guys!

Hey revlow!
I didn't add this to my reply to your comment because I saw your post here :) I'm sorry I didn't get to do this last week, but Happy Belated Bitrthday!! I think once you get past the teens, birthdays just seem like regular days with no fanfare...especially if you're not one of those people who throw themselves birthday parties and let the world know they're turning __. I know mine have felt that way since 18...especially because I don't drink, even milestone 21 was just a regular ol' day. I'm sorry to hear about your circumstances, but I do hope that the new year will bring you some good news and vibes your way! :)
I apologize for not replying on past OTs, again because I'd forget about checking back on it and getting to it way too late. I'm glad you were able to catch up on the new season of 1N2D, and if I remember correctly, you're all caught up...? I haven't been able to catch them in a while, but I did watch the first 1/2 of the first Autumn Cooking Special (being a foodie, that's what caught my eye). I'm sending my winter break catching up on dramas and most definitely, 1N2D :)
It's weird how there's now a changing of the guard to all the new late night shows...I admit I haven't watched them since before Jay Leno announced his retirement the first time around (yeah...been a while).

Thanks Tara!
I have to say the day got better. My neighbor asked me over to help decorate her Xmas tree. It was fun, and that got me out of my funk. (I hadn't decorated a tree since my kids were little.)
Brings up the amazing tale of the tree. A few days earlier she'd asked for help carrying the tree inside. HUGE tree... about 10 ft. But more than that, HEAVY sucker! Freakishly large trunk and heavy branches. Took three of us to to carry it up the steep icy staircase, with many stops along the way. The people at the lot kept asking her "Are you sure you want this tree?". They told her it was a "Three fireman tree.". That was because it literally took 3 firemen to chop it down and haul it out of the forest! (The tree lot is a community fundraiser for the Rotary, so firemen volunteer to help.) Trust me, the three of us ain't no firemen. It's a miracle we pulled it off!
The other friend had to leave, so it was just the two of us left to set up the tree. It was too big to even fit in the extra large tree stand! The two of us put our MacGyver hats on and jury-rigged the whole thing. Too involved to explain, but it was an engineering feat. We kept high-fiving each other "Girl power!". No one can believe we did it. We both were hobbling for days. I felt like I'd been hit by a truck. But it is a beautiful tree.
I'm all caught up with 1N2D. I liked the Autumn Cooking Special, too. Very funny.
I loved the tradition of Darlene Love on the Letterman Show. You may know this already, but for those who don't. She was the powerhouse singer behind some bit hits in the '60s. But she got screwed over by the producer Phil Spector, and many of her hit records came out with her voice, but credited the Crystals. From an article:
Twenty years later, divorced and broke, Love was cleaning a rich woman’s bathroom in Beverly Hills when she heard “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on the radio—another of her songs for Spector. She saw this as a sign that she should resume her career. In 1986, the first break of her second chance came when Letterman, who loved the song, invited her to perform it on his Christmas show. That became an annual tradition.
Gives me chills just thinking about it. There's a great documentary she's in called 20 Feet from Stardom about backup singers. It's on Netflix.
Thanks again. Sending you warm wishes for the New Year!

Oh my goodness, I forgot yesterday was Friday! I hope those who celebrated had a good Christmas! We had a Nerdy winter holiday at my house, with many Doctor Who & Hobbit & Mass Effect themed gifts. :)
What I watched:
Misaeng: I was so sad to see this show end. This was another one where I felt like I was hanging out with friends two hours a week, and now they've moved away. ::sigh:: The last episode was so satisfying, though - and my husband said "They clearly blew their entire budget on the last episode". Location shoots, woooooooo.
That was it. Christmas week was a bit busy.
What I want to be watching:
Gap-Dong: I can't find a site that offers a strong feed AND decent subtitles. I may have to buy it so I can finish watching, grr. I tried to watch one episode & never could finish it last night. So frustrating.
What I tried and dropped:
Healer: I already didn't like it when the opening scene was the protagonist talking about how he'd objectify the female form in his video game. Charming (that's super-sarcasm, by the way.)
But I just wasn't impressed by the whole thing. I gave it 15 minutes, and turned it off. Bleah.
K-drama Moment:
My copy of Marriage, not Dating came, so I can lure in the rom-com fans at the library! Now I just have a couple more, and my palette of K-drama pimping will be complete.
Also, apparently, Kim Ji Hoon was 1-1/2 hours from my location in the last couple of weeks. That's almost like standing right next to him, comparatively (Korea is a 14-hr flight from where I live.)

Get prepared to have recommendations for kdramas similar to Marriage, Not Dating! It is especially harder to recommend for people who watch it as their first drama because it can set the bar high!
A friend of mine asked me for a drama like it and I still have not been able to get back to her! I plan to recommend Master's Sun and (the first half) of Fated to Love You lol. I need more ideas though.
I honestly consider myself lucky that my first drama was Boys before Flowers.

Hi Deb,
If you haven't looked through them yet, there are some recommendations above for fun, uplifting Kdramas in thread 21 started by oftheshore through 21.6.
My first Kdrama was Pasta, and I was hooked. I consider myself lucky as well -- I just happened to come across it at Netflix, hadn't even heard of Kdramas. I've found folks here generally consider it so-so.
Here's pretty much my best-of list:
* Fated To Love You, and
* King of High School (aka High School King of Savvy or King of High School Life Conduct).
* Pasta
* Master's Sun
* MISAENG
* My Girlfriend is a Gumiho
* The Greatest Love
* My Love From the Star
* My Spring Day
* Reply 1997
(There are others that are really close.)
Of those, I think I'd suggest Fated To Love You, King of High School, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, and Reply 1997 for firsts... and my sentimental favorite Pasta. I had a first-timer friend call me up -- after 6 straight hours staring at the screen -- saying "Damn you, revlow!" She too was hooked. (And this is a friend who doesn't watch much TV.)
I imagine some folks will include Coffee Prince. That's been a first for many. I liked it, I just didn't like it like it.
Sly and Single is fun. So depends. What genre does you friend leans towards?

I adore it! I think you'll know within a short time if it's going to grab you. It was my first love, instantly made me a Kdrama addict. But like I said, I've found others here think it's meh.
Pasta has a lot of great actors: Gong Hyo-jin and Lee Sun-kyun for starters. I fell in love with them and was off and running to see everything they're in. Has the incomparable Lee Sung-min, who chews up the scenery. No Min-Woo and others introduced me to the hubba-hubba Korean actor realm.

LOLLLLLL! "cracktastic"! Thank you harmonyfb -- my first laugh of the day, and I can't stop laughing. You crack-ed me up.
Secret Garden, I liked it too...and it introduced me to actors I like. There are so many good ones, it's hard to narrow down. I liked Rooftop Prince. Miss Korea is cute, and managed to have me sobbing at the end of this silly little drama. Emergency couple is fun, and also had me weeping at the end. I really liked Gu Family Book. Cracked my way through that. (Well, actually I have no control over oldies and f'ing marathon them.)
I've found that I have a hard time with sageuk dramas. I wish I could hang with them, but I get lost. I do like it when it's a backdrop for some other genres, like Gu Family Book which has a fantasy element to it.
I'll have to watch Sungkyunkwan Scandal. It looks good.

Yay, soompi!
I know... that guy creeped me out! Have you seen Mr. Baek? He had one scene where he was dancing very legit ballet. I wanted to know if what I'd just seen was real, certainly didn't look like a double or CGI. It was real. There are videos on Youtube. He's got dancing chops.
I was eagerly anticipating Gap-Dong. I thought it turned into a meandering mess.
Memories of Murder is directed Bong Joon-Ho. I've seen 3 movies of his other movies: Snowpiercer, Mother, and The Host. Very different from each other, all good. Quentin Tarantino placed Memories of Murder and The Host in his top 20 movies from 1992-2009.
