Vampire medical drama Blood courts Ji Jin-hee, Kwon Hyun-sang

Huh, I actually like the sound of this — KBS’s new vampire medical drama Blood is courting Ji Jin-hee (Warm Words) to play the main villain, and in the drama where the vampire is the hero, the villain is just a human who’s so evil that he’s called the devil. I guess if he turned out to be the literal devil, we’d have a very different drama on our hands. But just in case human foes are too easy, we also have Vampire Prosecutor 2’s evil vamp Red Eyes Kwon Hyun-sang (Mandate of Heaven) joining the cast as a bad vampire. He’s just a tormenter of all vamps who try to hold day jobs, I’ve decided.

Blood is the newest drama from the team behind Good Doctor — PD Ki Min-soo (Ojakkyo Brothers) and writer Park Jae-bum (God’s Quiz) — about a vampire who finds it necessary to suppress his thirst for blood while performing surgery on people. Because just plain ol’ masochism doesn’t cut it for the superhuman. Yoo Yeon-seok has been cast as the vampire doctor hero of the story, a surgeon who doesn’t consider his vampirism to be a curse and does whatever he can to save human lives.

Ji Jin-hee’s character is the head of the cancer center at the hospital, and a hepato-pancreatico-biliary surgeon just like the hero. He’s handsome, gentle, and brilliant, looks younger than his years, has an unapproachable charisma, and wealth to boot. So he’s perfect? But he’s also a slave to his ambition, to the point that he’s obsessed. His desperation and cruelty know no bounds, and he makes everyone around him into a devil, which makes him the worst devil of them all.

Kwon Hyun-sang has been cast as a vampire who’s also a promising young boxer. Doesn’t that seem like an unfair advantage? He has superhuman strength and he’s undead! Anyway, he’s a villain who faces off with our hero, and that’s all we know for now. This guy was really scary in Vampire Prosecutor 2, so even if it’s typecasting, it’s probably a smart move. Ji Jin-hee is currently busy shooting a movie, so it’s too early to tell if his casting will stick, but with these two we’d have two charismatic bad guys on our hands, so I hope he does sign on.

Blood plans to follow Healer on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning in February.

He's quite frankly more suited to play the main male lead... and Park Jae Bum must have some sort of fetish for brash young men because he will literally do anything to avoid writing characters who actually look like physicians with some degree of expertise in their fields --- oh, he's a kid genius or oh, he's 37 but is actually a vampire so looks like a teenager. How tiresome.

I've been in love with khs for ages. I've always wished he got more/bigger parts. Loved him in vp. Even tho he was meant to be the villain, he had me rooting for him a little - in the sense that I felt bad for his past. He was like a little puppy at times.

Supposedly he has a movie coming up called "Tattooist", where he plays a detective chasing Song Il Kook's murderer. It's supposed to hit theaters (in Korea) sometime this year, but I haven't been able to find a release date, so who knows? I'm dying to see it.) Did you see him in "Let Me Out"?

While reading this update, I saw the guy on the banner. I missed him in drama this year.

Dear casting team, can we have Song Jong Ho oppa too. Full Sun is too short of him. I don't watch Warm Words but if JJH confirm maybe I watch it. I love good medical drama slash vampire.

Omg, Kwon Hyun Sang! He was great in VP 2, and by great I mean totally intense and terrifying and impactful! Now my mind is flooded with those VP 2 scenes.........(still waiting for that season 3.....sighs). Anyways he totally played the character of a bad vampire well so I'm sure he will do so in this drama too!

But we all know that it's the male vampires who are all about brooding and drama. The female vampires just get on with their (un)lives like normal people. ::laugh::

The more I hear of this show the more intrigued I become. I would love to see Ji Jin-hee play the villain, and making the hero vampire's nemesis just a plain ol' ambitious human? That's pretty perfect. And Kwon Hyun-sang as another baddie vampire? Also, perfect, but I hope this isn't just typecasting. He was scary in VP2, and that's the only thing I've seen him in. I think. Anyway, I'm pretty much looking forward to next years vampire dramas.

Ji Jin-hee! Ji Jin-hee! Ji Jin-hee! Yum. I wasn't going to watch this but if he confirms...

I was meh about Kwon Hyun-sang's vampire but I adored him in Mandate of Heaven. I wish he'd do something like that again.

I know - his character was disturbingly sympathetic - and the way he turned on a dime, from soft-voiced and (almost) sweet to murderous was terrifying.

YES! Kwon Hyun-sang is a perfect addition to give any vampire a run for his money!

He was seriously badass in VP2 - we need more vampy KHS, in every sense of the word!

Kwon Hyun-sang is the original antagonistic vampire to me, and it's only fitting that he's cast as a baddie vampire again. He did a really great job in VP2, so much so that when I saw him in Yawang -- I'd always do a double-take, thinking he'd just transform into a vamp in a snap ;P

The characterization of the human being the evil one/the devil is quite interesting, since I think the majority of vampire-related stories portray the vampires as being the evil forces (but mind you, I don't watch/read vampire stuff -- VP being the one and only exception). Ji Jin-hee as evil...something to look forward to, along with Yoo Yoon-seok! :)

DID YOU SAY.... VAMPIRE DRAMA?
WITH KWON HYUNG SANG?!

*twerks*

omg I've been waiting for something like this ever since getting sucked into Vampire Prosecutor. I hope I'll get to see this! I hope Korea begins to make more vampire dramas. America just doesn't know how to make a good vampire anymore. Except I did like (no LOVE) Buffy the vampire Slayer and Angel.
Kwon Hyung Sang was epic as L, he makes a good, sexy evil vampire so I'm looking forward to this!

fighting!
