Pinocchio teases small-town high school romance
by girlfriday
Okay, the second teaser for SBS’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama Pinocchio is a step in the right direction — at least it contains a tidbit of story information and actually features the heroine of our story, which is more than I could say for the first teaser (possibly a thing we should pretend didn’t happen. Except it did). The show’s second teaser features glimpses of Park Shin-hye and Lee Jong-seok’s past as sweet, happy high schoolers from a small country town.
They grow up together on a tiny island, and that marks the last happy phase in the hero’s life. He suffers the loss of his parents and undergoes a transformation (which thankfully includes the cutting of that mop hair), eventually hiding his identity and becoming a whole new person altogether. So he’s a character whose entire life becomes a lie, while our heroine is a character who can’t lie. She suffers from Pinocchio syndrome, which sends her into hiccup fits whenever she lies. She grows up to be brutally honest for that reason, which ought to be fun.
The leads join Lee Yubi (Gu Family Book) and Kim Young-kwang (Plus Nine Boys) as a foursome of rookie news reporters, and Lee Pil-mo (Emergency Couple) plays their boss, a gruff PD whose face is permanently stuck in a frown. He’s a man of principle who believes in the importance of truth above all else, which means he’ll be the mentor to whip our rookies into shape and inspire them.
Jin Kyung (It’s Okay, It’s Love) plays Park Shin-hye’s mother, a successful anchorwoman who divorced her husband and left her daughter entirely in his care. She left her daughter with a lot of residual pain, even though the heroine grows up under the care of a warm father and grandfather. I wonder if she becomes a reporter to try and cultivate a relationship with her mother, which is actually an interesting angle. These teasers are still really skimpy on the details, but I guess they do leave me curious.
Pinocchio follows current Wednesday-Thursday drama She’s So Lovable, which is airing its last three episodes next week. That puts the premiere on November 12.

With PSH, it seems the measure of her own fans to gauge her being a "good actress" is torrid kissing scene or how good she can kiss.
Miss Granny's younger lead actress (Shim Eun-Kyung) did not have a single kissing scene in her role as Oh Doo Ri yet she took the Baeksang Award.

I also think it will be interesting to see Park Shin-hye go up against Park Min Young, as both ladies are the female leads in their upcoming dramas. Both dramas are about reporters growing up and chasing the truth. Healer vs Pinocchio hmm. The winning lady can be the female lead of City Hunter 2 with Lee Min Ho haha :D

the pictures of teh 4 below look really good!hope Shin Hye character will have good style!
i still can't imagine what whould ahve been if the hero had the syndrome with all his fake new life or so while being unable to lie when he has too
and i've read in some reports they will be uncle and niece or so?curious about that one if it's correct

Actually, this highschool stuff is after he loses his parents and was adopted by Inha's grandpa. His mop hair is part of that 'whole new person' that he has to live as. He'll have another transformation though, just not like how you say he will...

I'm still waiting for the rom-com about a secret society of wardrobe coordinators who conspire to boost their bias' popularity by putting hideous hair and clothing on male leads in efforts to sink their career. The hero can be a exec-PD who gets wise to their schemes and goes undercover as geeky cameraman to suss them out while the heroine can be the ringleader, determined to foil male second lead's fan following. She has an illustrious track record (cameos by Lee Min Ho, and...the list could go on forever), but is constantly foiled by persistent saesangs who keep ratings high. The lead discovers her plot but keeps it a secret because of his personal vendetta against 2nd lead, but teases her constantly to preserve their contrived interactions. Brought to you by the makers of King of Dramas, I give you: Queen of Couture.

I don't really think much of these teasers, I'm just looking forward to the drama itself. The leads look pretty great in the teaser images though.
And according to the character descriptions, one of the reasons Choi In Ha becomes a reporter, is to find her mom. So, you're correct there.

Hi girlfriday,
I think you have got it wrong. The story actually goes like this,
He gets almost drowned and was luckily saved by in ha's grandfather. Then grandfather adopts n names him dal po and he starts living as a whole new person(with that mop hair) hiding his identity. So this high school scenes comes after that. Probably his image transformation will happen in the later part of the story.

First teaser was like, SBS realized they are behind in promotions and hurriedly put together a short clip, which wasn't that impressive.
Then came the second teaser, BAM! Right on d feels(atleast for me). It was cute. I feel the chemistry between the leads already. Only thing distracting was his hair.
Hopefully, SBS doesn't lag and release some more impressive materials about the show. Many characters seem to be interesting according to the description given in their official website.
And oh! Love park shin hye's gaze at the end of the teaser.

Is it just me, or there's actually some sign of a spark there, or at least romantic believability? (something conspicuously lacking in Heirs and Dr Stranger)
I'm dying of curiosity now. I mean, I want to see Lee Yubi again (18 months since the end of Gu Family Book! Way too long!) but weren't LJS/PSH supposed to be some kind of uncle and niece, non-related that is? But now they have what looks like a high school romance?

ha, I completely agree with you. Romantic side plots bore the crap out of me, there always super cliche and there really is so few dramas that don't go there. it seems like a lot of the time they rely on the romantic scenes between two leads and don't care much for the plot or development. I remember when I first started watching School 2013 I dropped it, thinking it was a typical drama and LJS would end up with the long haired girl and there would be a love triangle and so on, I later started watching again and was so pleasantly surprised. I havent seen Ghost but I think I might have to check it out now.

The teaser does not tell me much and to my surprise I see chemistry in this couple, but I admit though it frustrates me have so little information, I am much happier with this shortage of detail compared to the overabundance of images videos and news that they had done heirs one year .... I hope not maintained Jong Suk with his particular style and I commend all the gods that Shin Hye looks like in the picture, because if the girl is gorgeous, but her good-girl image and noble is something that did not want to see, I hope that this drama is the transition point, unlike many see enough potential in it and how little it or seen Pinocchio, is a show that does seem worth seeing

What's up with the harping on his hair? From what I read up above he has the mop of hair when Shin hye and his character are a couple, then tragedy strikes and he goes to live with his grandfather and gets a new look and I think a new name. And Shin hye's character won't recognize him when she meets him again years later.
But whatever the case I'm definitely going to check this drama out when it premieres on the 12th.

You guys just have the sequence wrong, that's all.
- First, his parents die. That's the tragedy striking, that how it all starts...
- After his parents die, Inha's (Inha is played by Park Shinhye) grandpa saves him and adopts him into the family as a son. He would then go by the name Dalpo, DALPO is his new false identity and the mop-hair is part of that new identity. Inha is part of his new family after he's adopted, she becomes his niece (meaning the daughter of his new brother). That's how the two meet.
- Then this high school stuff happens, since they're the same age they just go to high school together. And because their family is poor and can't send two people to college, in high school he purposely flunks all his classes and hid his intelligence so that Inha would get the opportunity to go to college instead.
"And Shin hye’s character won’t recognize him when she meets him again years later."-- This doesn't happen, at all. He never disappears. They never lose contact.
All this happens before the main plot; which is these two being on rivaling news teams.
