Oh Snap! From Seo Genie to Seo Genius

When you have two hit shows on your hands, why not use one to parody the other? This poster recently cropped up online, in which tvN uses its new reality program starring Lee Seo-jin and Taecyeon, Three Meals a Day, to parody its variety game show, The Genius. It calls it… drumroll… Seo Genius. The description reads: “Beat instigator Na PD! A twist-filled cooking reality show of cooking missions, Ok Dummy, halbaes, and food fighters: Seo Genius.”

From Art School Hyung to Seo Genie (Seo-jinnie) to Seo Genius… not a bad nickname trajectory. (Directly below, Seo Genius. At bottom, The Genius.)

This is indeed Seo-genius! Na Young Seok/Lee Seo Jin and Kim Tae Ho/Yoo Jae Suk are quite possibly the best tandems in variety. I just love them.

Random thought: one of the best throwaway lines of the past year was in Surplus Princess, right after the mermaid flips over in the water and disappears with a splash of her fish tail. In American mermaid films and TV shows this would have been a romantic or spooky shot, but the Korean chef on the dock just grins excitedly and shouts"TUNA!"

I gotta get over to Seoul sometime and raid the markets for a decent meal.
